tl;dr don’t try to win every 1v1; just make sure you can live to fight somewhere else.

Actually, I disagree with this one.

In order to learn from your mistakes and learn how classes work against each other, you should in fact engage and try to win every single 1v1. The only path to becoming a better player is through loads of dying, over and over again.

Eventually, after getting your behind kicked enough, you’ll start to notice you react faster, read the opponent’s movements faster, and create your own plans in your mind much faster. You’ll start recognizing which classes have which skills, and which classes you can likely counter easier than others.

Also, just in case you haven’t already, check some builds online specifically created for WvW roaming and fighting. As others have said, Necro shines in team combat more than solo, but is definitely deadly on 1v1s when played correctly.

The learning curve is steep, but so it was for everyone at first. Even for those condi lockdown rangers, who probably got one-shot all the time in the beginning too. Then they learned how to avoid that, and are now doing the same to other players who don’t know how to defend themselves properly.

I second this, we can already swap professions in PvP if need be, I don’t see why not in WvW without losing our spot.

Someone in the WvW subforum I think had a great idea of reserving a spot for the account in WvW for a few minutes after logging out of a character, I think a solution like that would be a great addition.

Wouldn’t it honestly just be easier to join a dedicated WvW guild from your server, or transfer to a server that has them if yours don’t? That way you have a solid group to fight with, all on the same world.

If you have some specific friends you want to play with, you could also reach an agreement and transfer together to a specific server, or you could transfer to theirs / they to yours. That’s what everyone does when they want to WvW together.

Legendary collections instead of grind?

Hevoskuuri.3891

I very much second this. I’ve played multiple hours every single day for almost 2 years now, and still do, but I still consider myself way too casual to even start attempting to make a legendary. I’d love to see one or two of the HoT leggies in my inventory one day, but I just can’t see myself farming for hundreds of hours. At the moment, legendaries don’t really ask for effort, mastery or anything of the sort, but simply the ability to withstand the mind-numbing grind they require.

But hey, I’m just bragging here. I know they won’t change the legendary crafting process, and enough people seem to be fine with it, since every third person you see is running around with at least one. Maybe in 10 years I’ve gathered enough materials via regularl play to attempt making one, we’ll see.

It would definitely be exploited. Somehow, by someone. Going around the time-gated ascended crafting comes to mind as a first thing, since the items could be crafted faster and then transferred.

I think there’s a very good reason why account-bound stuff is account-bound.

The 175-ticket cap should NOT exist

in WvW

Posted by: Hevoskuuri.3891

Hevoskuuri.3891

Ha, I wish I’d see 175 tickets in my wallet even once. But apparently playing for 2-3 hours every day isn’t dedicated enough, since that’s never going to get me out of Wood/Bronze before the track resets again, so my weekly income is around 30 tickets. The T1 armor pieces cost well over a hundred, so it’s going to take me months to achieve even the very first set. It’s hilarious seeing people who literally have REPEATED the diamond line while I’m probably never even going to see it.

Ah well, I’m not complaining. I have never played WvW for the rewards and won’t start now.

Calm down people, everyone knew this was going to happen.

Of course everyone who hasn’t ever set foot in WvW came to check out the new vendors and try the gamemode out of curiosity, most of them will be gone in a few days tops. Of course, some of the newcomers will stay, so obviously the general population has risen. We can expect more queues than before, but outside prime time it’s going to be business as usual.

Lower the Rank Requirement for Armor

in WvW

Posted by: Hevoskuuri.3891

Hevoskuuri.3891

While I agree that getting to level 2000 requires a ton of effort (constant zerging or thousands of hours of roaming/gvg), I still think the level requirement for the armor is just fine. Those who are that dedicated deserve something unique. However I think that the rank system should be somehow adjusted, since many aspects of WvW (roaming, scouting, refreshing siege etc.), don’t reward players with alot of XP, if at all.

Personally I’m at rank 400 with 1.5 years of active WvWing. I play every day, but mostly roam solo and raid with my guild, focusing mainly on battles so there often are nights when I don’t gain a single rank at all, despite playing for hours.

Anyhow, I don’t play for the rewards, but I’m glad we got this patch. Looking forward for things calming down and WvW getting some fresh blood to fight against.

Hi and welcome to the world of Tyria!

1. The latest end-game content going on right now before the next expansion is Living World season 3, with 5 out of 6 episodes currently released. You will unlock the current episode (5) by simply logging in before the last one comes out, and also the last episode by logging in when it comes out. You can choose if you want to buy the previous 4 episodes, but I wouldn’t worry about that until later when you’ve completed everything else the game has to offer.

2. The population is in very good health, and there are constantly people leveling characters in the core zones, so most of the time you won’t be alone.

3. There are many good sites for GW2, like GW2Efficiency for tracking account information, and the Wiki for information on everything else. It also contains timers for world bosses and other big events.

4. You can check Metabattle for example to see the best guardian builds, and browse the Guardian class sub-forum here for tips. Feel free to ask more there, or ask for help in the main game chat. Youtube guides are also good.

5. You can ask around in the game chat (or anywhere really, forums, reddit etc.) for newbie-friendly guilds that welcome new members (they will often advertise themselves in the game chat too). There are plenty of guilds for different gamemodes and things, from casual PvX guilds to hardcore raiding guilds. For the endgame, there are plenty of options; raids, fractals, competitive modes, anything that suits your wishes really. Consider finding a friendly guild right away; that will definitely improve your experience and help you in many, many ways.

As for a personal tip: take things slow and learn by your own pace. It’s a huge game with a huge amount of content, so rushing things can overwhelm you very quickly and burn you out. The gear grind of GW2 is very marginal, so don’t worry about anything like that while leveling up.

Again, welcome to Tyria and good luck!

Are the new zones worth it?

I think the new zones are DEFINITELY worth it.

LW3 maps are some of the most beautiful and well-designed areas Arenanet has ever made, and every single one is full of events and bosses. There is usually at least one well-populated copy of every map, since I participate in the events daily and there are always tons of people, especially in the evenings.

Asidw from ascendes trinkets, the map vendors also sell nice ascended backpacks and some cool weapon skins. The story is also interesting, so I can definitely recommend buying the season.

Hey look News update for WvW.

Hevoskuuri.3891

These forums make me facepalm so very, very hard.

We get exciting news: people have been asking for a scoring change, a rewards update and an improved UI in WvW for ages now. And hey, they’re finally coming! And what’s our response? A thread full of complaints. Do you now see why Reddit is the go-to place for the devs over these forums? The toxicity is unbelievable.

Yes, I know there’s still much more they could do to make WvW the ideal gamemode with its full potential, balance- and otherwise. But it’s far from what the everyday whiners claim it to be. To me and many, many others I know, WvW is still the top gamemode and we have fun all the time, because we make our own fun instead of furiously typing complaints every single day. If there’s nothing positive or constructive to say, why bother saying it?

We got some wonderful news today, and personally I’m super hyped for it! WvW is an amazing game mode, and now it’s getting even better. Thank you Anet for making this update, it’s great.

And if someone’s feelings got hurt here, I apologize. I simply wanted to express my frustration over these once-so-friendly forums, that seem to have become a very negative environment. Every game update we receive gets shot down and more demands are being presented. If you truly are so unhappy with the game and the updates, maybe it’s time to try something else.

That’s my two cents, now I’m off to Reddit. Byeeeeee~

New Infinite Tools, why not separately?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hevoskuuri.3891

Hevoskuuri.3891

I love the fact they listened to people and added these tools, but the one thing that frightens me is the price.

2700 gems is nearly 35 euros, and that’s half of what I paid for the core game AND Heart of Thorns combined. I can put €10 in the gem shop every now and then, but for me the price of the tools is simply way too high. Sure, it wouldn’t sting nearly as much if I had a few hundred gold to soften the price, but WvW being my main gamemode I make maybe 20 gold a week, so no help there.

Unless they lower the price a notch or sell the tools separately, I’ll be sticking to the regular UM tools.

Easy rotation class??

Hevoskuuri.3891

With 80 boost a lot of times you won’t learn the class, just getting thrown in the deep end with no idea – when you level you get to learn the class inch by inch on the way to 80.

This is very true for those who are completely new to the game.

However, with one or more characters already at max level you already know the basics of the game. There’s no need to learn how to dodge, swap weapons efficiently, learn what the stats are about etc; those should already be self-explanatory.

‘Learning the class inch by inch’ is a poor excuse for not using the Lvl 80 boost. Getting to know a class is actually much faster with the boost: with all skills and traits unlocked, you can goof around for an hour and learn the basics of the class much faster than through the 1-80 leveling process, which like someone said, gives you pretty much no value towards learning your ultimate end-game build anyway. Also, you can buy the best exotic gear with the desired stats and that’ll show you the potential of the class right there and then, unlike the leveling process, where you are constantly upgrading your gear and never knowing how much damage/healing/whatever you can actually do.

Apart from one , I have power-leveled all of the professions to 80 via tomes of knowledge, and the way I see it: when mastering a profession, you can run around learning while leveling, or you might as well run around learning with all the important stuff unlocked for you and the full potential of the class right there for you to behold.

Gem Store Level 80 Boost? <3

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

No need for an 80 boost on the gemstore. It takes almost no real time to get 80 leveling scrolls.

5 pvp wins is no joke, and to do that 80 times? takes more time than u think, took me 1200 hours to get my 2nd lvl 80 thru just tomes.

How is this even possible? It took me about 500 hours to level up 13 characters to 80 via tomes from PvP and WvW. That’s 1040 tomes and didn’t even feel like a grind, they just kept dropping while I was having fun.

[Suggestion] WvW supply mastery

in WvW

Posted by: Hevoskuuri.3891

Hevoskuuri.3891

I like OP’s suggestion, but there are a few problems. If zergs and large guild groups were running around with 60 supply on each person, WvW would very quickly become Siege Wars with tons and tons of arrow carts and ballistas being deployed in every single fight. I don’t know what that would look like, and frankly don’t want to know.

Then there’s objectives. Even small groups could deploy catas and rams much faster, thus being able to take on T3 keeps and objectives much faster. Without the need to run back and forth resupplying, defenders would have much less time to notice the attack and react to it.

Finally, it would make trolling much easier; keeps and towers could be drained faster, just to keep the supply or waste it in useless siege in the middle of nowhere. At the current rate, nobody bothers to start draining a 1000-supply keep with the cap of 25.

One solution is to make the 60 supply cap for “roamers only”, which means if you’re not in a party or a squad, your supply cap is higher. This, of course, would bring a new set of problems; people would simply not party up when they run together.

However it might be, we NEED new ways to spend the extra points we get after 1000, and it should be discussed more.

[Suggestion] Fixing the Mastery System

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hevoskuuri.3891

Hevoskuuri.3891

The system definitely could use some tweaking.

The HoT mastery points are pretty much okay in my opinion; you get plenty of them from doing basically any HoT content; insights, story, bosses, events, adventures, strongboxes, raids and LS3 maps. The XP needed for the high-level ones is definitely a bit grindy, but HoT content also brings in tons of that. Still, once you’ve done most of the content but still need points to max out everything, it becomes a chore.

Core Tyria however, is very difficult since the sources for getting the points are very limited, especially if you don’t do fractals.

I’d like to see a system where we have a static amount of XP, and once the bar is full, it grants a mastery point (at least in the Core Tyria area). They could maybe also be added to reward tracks.

A new weapon means:
animations
a tier 1, tier 2 and tier 3 racial association
a set for the dungeons, fractals and a legendary.
campaign collections such as the orders,

they cannot make a new weapon without making like at least 40 skins and bulk and promising the bring the full collections later. and what about collections that exist as achievement. New players are going to wonder why the Primal Greataxe, the Chak Greataxe, or the whatever greataxe isn’t part of their collections

Why would a new weapon type have to follow the same rules as the existing ones?

If they are tied to elite specs, they could simply be made available from the zones of the new expansion only, and then just add them to the black lion sets for new skins.

100 gold to craft light armor

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Hevoskuuri.3891

I’ve been criticizing and asking stuff from Anet in the past. It’s perfectly doable to agree on some stuff they’re doing and not on some others. Doesn’t make you a white knight. Please don’t throw the white knight argument without knowing people because it’s a really cheap argument.

100G is indeed a few days of playing the game. If you don’t play the game enough to make that gold, you absolutely don’t need ascended. Simple as that. Ascended is absolutely not hard to get these days.

“Ascended is absolutely not hard to get these days.”

It’s not insanely hard, but definitely not easy either.

The only ways to actually get a full asc set are;

-Play a ton of gamemode X (Raids, Fractals, PvP)
-Level a crafting profession to 500 and craft it (it’s either expensive or very slow, depending on if you buy or craft the materials)
-Be lucky and get drops (my average droprate so far is one ascended armorpiece/weapon per ~200 hours of playtime).

If you exclusively do WvW or open world PvE, your chances of getting an ascended set are based solely on RNG and luck, so it’s not easy for everyone. And before anyone says you don’t need Ascended in those game modes, you don’t really need it in any gamemode at all. That’s a poor argument, since everything is, after all, doable in exotics.

What is YOUR idea for a "Perfect" WvWvW?

in WvW

Posted by: Hevoskuuri.3891

Hevoskuuri.3891

I’ve been toying with the idea of bringing something new and fresh to WvW and how to extend the mechanics of open world battlefield. Not exactly an overhaul or idea for a “perfect gamemode” but I thought I’d post it in the thread anyway.

Add a completely new map, “Harbour of the Mists”.

This map would be roughly the size of Alpine Borderlands, and would offer a completely new roaming-friendly mechanic; the map could only be entered solo or in a party of 5 players maximum. The map would be completely free of server ties, meaning every solo player and party on the map would be hostile to each other, even those from the same server. Food and utility items would be disabled on this map.

The map theme would present a long-forgotten, abandoned port town with a surrounding area consisting of woods, hills and lakes. The town area itself would be very urban, much like Divinity’s Reach or some other major town, but in a smaller scale.

The objectives on the map would be mostly camps and a few towers, but with static defences, such as a basic arrow cart and a low-powered cannon. Parties would fight over and hold these objectives for minor buffs that last for ten minutes. After capture, players could use these objectives as resting places for as long as they are held; NPC’s could be hired to guard the objective, and a waypoint would unlock, letting the fallen party members teleport to their friends.

The town in the harbour would obviously be the most dangerous zone; minor buffs like teleport-to-friend items (only usable on this map), short stat buffs etc. would be scattered here and there in the buildings for players to find. The town would also hold the major objective of the map (equivalent to Stonemist Castle); a mansion once owned by a great lord. The party that captures the objective gets a major buff “Warband”. The buff allows the party to send a call to other parties on the map, and the first one to answer the call will join that party, uniting two hostile groups together and forming a 10-man Warband for one hour. Other players on the map can then decide to hunt down the Warband, or attempt to retake the mansion to form their own Warbands for slightly larger-scale fights. After the buff ends, the Warband members will again be two separate parties hostile to each other.

The player limit on the map would be 10 parties (50 players in parties) and 15 solo players, limiting the total amount of players to 65 on the map, to keep things lag-free and roamer-friendly. The map would have multiple instances; one full map would result in the next opening up.
———————

I have only toyed with the idea, not thinking too closely on the mechanics; how it’s going to affect other WvW maps (or if it will at all), balance issues or mechanic conflicts. What do you guys think? I’d love to see ideas or improvements for a smaller-scale WvW mode like this. And to be clear: not in my wildest dreams I think anything like this will actually be ever added to the game, but I like brainstorming around the game’s capabilities just for fun

There’s very little to see or do in that area of the map, hardly worth re-visiting once you’ve done what there is to do. A whole mastery for that would have felt just pointless.

If you do wanna re-visit it once or twice for some reason, making the elixir is not really that time-consuming. A bit tedious yes, but then you have a full 24 hours to explore the area as much as your heart desires.

Posted by: Hevoskuuri.3891

Hevoskuuri.3891

Maybe thats because people feel like anet has canceled the whole WvW-support. I saw I got aggressive and salty the last months. No reason to act like this in PvE. But WvW is just depressing.

I am sorry if players feel that way. I see it in posts, sure. But I believe we’ve made it clear that the game mode has not been abandoned. That was confirmed quite recently when a dev made some comments about upcoming changes. Unfortunately, the thread devolved into dev bashing, and the OP asked that we remove it.

I feel that while things may not be perfect, they are not as dire as some forum members paint them. Continuously dwelling on the negative isn’t necessary or productive and it doesn’t represent the true nature of the game mode.

Thank you Gaile for this wonderful post.

All this ranting about the state of WvW on the forums is complete nonsense. The game mode is most definitely not dead, it’s been running stable for the entire time GW2 has been alive. Many players have quit the game, sure, and that shows, but the population is still generally huge, which means people are having fun with the gamemode.

Mechanics-wise, nothing has really changed. WvW today is not any worse than WvW 4 years ago, quite the opposite. All the improvements have made it only better. The mode hasn’t changed for the worse, but the community has. Everyone is so salty these days. I never hear or see complaints in-game or anywhere else, just here on the forums. My guess is, the people who rant here don’t actually even bother to play the gamemode, they just like to be loud and demand more things.

Sure, with GW2’s old engine and balancing difficulties, WvW is not perfect, and will always need polishing. But take a second and think about this: despite the lag, balancing issues, poor rewards and salty complainers, literally hundreds and hundreds of players still log in every single day and form queues in WvW on almost every server. Dozens of WvW guilds raid every single night. The gamemode is far from dead and abandoned, and people are loving it. Personally, I’ve never had more fun as I am having now.

Gravity well is more generally useful than moa since it’s on a lower cooldown and can affect more people. Moa is a 1off extremely powerful utility that’s great if you’re regularly only fighting 1v1s.

Now that I have more hours with the build under my belt, and I’ve learned the rotations, it’s working wonders for me. I also made a drastic choice and picked Signets of Domination and Midnight over Signet of Illusions and Arcane Thievery (and keeping Blink as my third utility.)

This allows me to keep 100% Confusion duration with less expensive utility foods, gives even more condition output (SoM puts out confusion, cripple and vulnerability + blind with traits, and also works as a stun break), has great cc with the 3 second unblockable stun with SoD, and gives a really nice bonus to my base condi damage. I also like to run with Gravity Well more often than moa, especially when engaging in fights against multiple enemies.

I sometimes miss the F1-F4 recharge with SoI, but I feel the change was worth it. While they are on cooldown, I can still spam out illusions, use Blink to kite around, and sword to block, evade and deal a bit of damage with the autoattack chain. Also, I have my signets to spam conditions and keep my opponent CC’d until shatters recharge.

I can now see why msalakka called this one of the strongest 1v1 builds. The sustain and condi pressure is really strong, and I feel like I lash out more conditions than most opponents can cleanse. Of course DH’s and good thieves still win, but it’s a fun build to play around, having a nice learning curve to it.

Honestly that MetaBattle build isn’t very good unless you come up against builds that have absolutely no cleanse. Almost all of your condition pressure comes from shatters…..that will do minuscule direct damage because you are full dire. I see Chronos sometimes running this build and it’s just so easy to ignore them. If you go hybrid stats with this build you will have much more success in actually putting pressure on people. Dragonhunters and Thieves will still shut you down with ease though.

However, if you want to remain dire and actually have some noticeable pressure (outside of 1v1s) take sceptre instead of sword and then perhaps take torch over shield for reliable burn application. However, shield is a solid choice no matter what you’re playing and Tides of Time is just immense with Mistrust. If you’re taking duelling instead of Inspiration, just slot cleaning sigils and take Null Field or Mantra of Resolve.

What kind of hybrid would you recommend then? Carrion/Sinister over Dire? Or mixing in some zerker with dire? I like shield too much to replace it, but will try out scepter in stead of sword. Thanks for the tip.

I don’t understand why they don’t put them on sale more often. There always seems to be alot of people who save for these sales and then stock up when it happens, buying multiple slots. Well, I guess they are profitable enough as it is.

Help with condi chrono

in Mesmer

Hevoskuuri.3891

I’ve been only playing power shatter before, and decided to try out condi just to refresh things up a little. So far I’m loving the build, but compared to my S/T LB burn/bleed warrior (which is my only other condi build), this seems… underpowered. Applying conditions is a lot more difficult, the rotation is harder to pull off, and I just generally seem to be making less damage in fights than with my warr. And I’m talking about WvW, haven’t tried this in PvP yet but will at some point.

The build in question is this: http://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Chronomancer_-_Condi_Roamer

I did change Inspiration to Dueling for a little while and it seemed to buff up my damage a bit, but I simply lost too much sustain with it. The theoretical damage is very good against PvE targets and camp guards, who don’t block, evade, heal or cleanse, but against other players it’s much harder to be effective.

Since it’s a new build for me, I don’t always get the rotations right, mind you. I could be wrong about the build being underpowered; maybe I’m just not good enough with it yet. It just FEELS underpowered for now.

So my initial question in a nutshell is: is condi chrono actually underpowered or is it just difficult to learn? I don’t mind the difficulty, but I would like to know how viable it actually is. Also, if you have any tips for me, or recommendations on the build, I’d appreciate it Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the Super Cloud Glider!

It’s unfair; first you release the Raven Spirit glider and now this

Oh well, I’ll probably buy this one too.

Suggestion: Show SAB daily inside SAB

I had no issue seeing my SAB dailies in SAB.

Simply select which ones you want to track from the daily achievement panel, like normal dailies, and they display right where they should.

I think OP wants the SAB dailies to be shown automatically.
When you enter PvP you are automatically shown the PvP dailies.
When you enter WvW you are automatically shown the WvW dailies.
When you enter PvE you are automatically shown the PvE dailies.
When you enter SAB you are automatically shown the …
… PvE dailies. Sounds useful to me.

Furthermore, in the LS 3 zones you see the dailies for those zones too. Would be nice, probably just an oversight.

Off topic, but since we are talking about dailies, I’d like to see the LS3 dailies counting as normal PvE dailies too. As they are, they feel pretty much pointless, giving you a sip of karma and one map currency. If they would count as actual dailies, I’d do them every day.

Some of them are super-fast to complete, so maybe it could be that two completed LS3 dailies count as 33% towards Daily Completionist, so six LS3 dailies in total for the Daily Completionist.

Also, I would like to see SAB dailies showed in SAB. Festival dailies show automatically on Halloween and Wintersday, so why not SAB?

Renowned Hearts progress should be shared!

I agree with you OP. GW2 does the party system, renown hearts, shared XP etc. really well and encourages grouping up, but the individual progress for the hearts is something completely opposite.

I also noticed this when my friend started playing; I felt like there was nothing I could do to help him progress, except safeguard him and kill mobs he had tagged, following him around getting bored to death. The heart progress should be shared party-wide.

Before anyone says it, sure, this could (and would) cause exploits where 5-man parties could clear 5 individual hearts at the same time and get the map progress much faster etc. These sort of problems could be easily prevented by limiting the progress to those party members who are in the heart area, or some other similar solution.

A little behind..? I have over 1000 hours clocked in and will hit 5K AP soon. If only I would have done my dailies more regularly in the past.. ;-(

As for the 1 copper, that sounds really weird. Maybe it’s just a joke with no deeper meaning?

what's the point of SAB

I mean, I would like to say “don’t like it, don’t do it”
but the problem with this is that it requires dev attention that’s withdrawn from raiding, LS or other content. And it adds weapons that break immersion worse than a set of huge wings. And lets not forget the miniatures with their cringy 8-bit sounds.. Sorry, but this ‘festival’ does actually do harm

It doesn’t take away any time from content creators, since it’s an annual thing just copypasted from the previous years. Also, what’s this about “breaking immersion”? Guild Wars 2 is not, nor has ever been, an immersive sim. It’s an MMO set in a fantasy world, so not exactly the optimal environment for those who want immersion in their game.

What actually does harm are people who take this game, and themselves too seriously.

Laptop Inquiry

Huh. I have the same specs almost, though my laptop is an Acer, with turbo-boost to 2.90 (turned off) and 512 RAM on the same video card. I play medium to high on most GW2 graphics and average about 20 FPS, except around lots of players/things rendered at the same time.

What I do have turned down is Reflections, Character Model Limit and Character Model Quality (at low or medium). My Sound Quality is at High (not sure what difference that makes).

I also use Balanced, rather than High Performance in Windows; I’m on Windows 7 rather than 10 (heard nothing but bad press about 10, so opted out).

I did up my RAM from 4G to 6G. Seemed to help, but that was long ago. I also run the 32-bit client, though I could, and have, run the 64-bit client. No real difference there; I very rarely experience game crashes.

Perhaps, the difference is the on-board RAM on the video card. /shrug

Have you tried turning down the Shadow quality? That has a huge impact on FPS for some reason, with very little change in graphics.

I personally love Mesmer as a PvP/dueling class, but would pick Ele as an open world PvE profession. Boon sharing with others, healing, mobility, great AoE damage, good sustain.

It essentially comes down to your own decision. And if you want both, you can buy an additional character slot from the gem store. Those are discounted from time to time, too (will probably be someday this month, there are daily sales going on right now) if you find them too expensive.

I also recommend to just play around a little and get to know the game a bit better before venturing into Heart of Thorns. Here’s a few suggestions what you could do:

-Get full exotic gear, and optimize your builds. Getting full exotics is not expensive or very time-consuming, but very helpful in the end-game content. Also, you might want to check out Metabattle or some other sites to guide you on your character build. You don’t have to follow the metagame builds, but some traits underperform badly an are essentially useless, while picking something else might prove much more useful for you.

-Lower-level dungeons can be duo’d, but I recommend putting up an “all welcome” party in the LFG (Y button by default). If you don’t mind three strangers running them with you, dungeons are really fun.

-WvW is great fun for duos, if you don’t mind the PvP aspect. You can run as a duo scout team, flipping camps and towers, killing roamers and assisting in battles. Keep in mind, though, that WvW has a slight learning curve, and as new-ish players to your professions you will most likely get annihilated by experienced players.

-World Completion. The world is astonishingly beautiful, some of the quest hearts are really fun and then later on you will have all waypoints unlocked, which is incredibly useful.

-World Bosses. Check the timers on the GW2 Wiki (or any website made for this purpose), check out where they are going to spawn and when, and go have some epic battles with dozens of other players.

Welcome to Tyria!

transmutation stones

ArenaNet sets the policy as such because they want to incentivize people to play PvP or buy with real cash. They have two goals and the current policy works to move people towards those goals.

If you want to propose a revision, it will also need to comply with those goals.

So what’s wrong with my proposal of introducing a permanent TM charge in the gem store for 1000 gems? I am quite sure this would actually increase the cash flow, since plenty of people from previous similar threads seem to be struggling with low amount of charges and little ways of getting them outside PvP. At the current price of 150 gems minimum, I dare to say not many players put real money into it, but rather buy them with gold instead. A 1000 gem pricetag would likely pull in more paying customers, and generally make everyone struggling with this happy.

It’s like the special access passes. You can buy a temporary one for 150 gems, and a permanent one for a higher price.

Most people don’t feel the need to change skins much. Very few want to change them regularly. There are plenty of xmute charges available for the first group; ANet is asking the rest to pay, either in cash or coin.

That’s where the problem lies. Those who don’t change much gather hundreds of charges that are essentially useless to them. But for those who do want to change their looks often, there’s simply no easy option for that. Since one of the core elements of the endgame is indeed fashion, restricting it like this feels very wrong to me.

They nerfed how many you get in PvP and you can farm them easily by just doing exploration on the starter city maps over and over. Just keep one character slot open and you can get 6 in like 30 mins, rinse and repeat.

Boring, useless exploration over and over again just to change your clothes. 6 in 30 minutes hardly seems worthwhile.

This is exactly why we need to get rid of the TM system. Seriously, there’s so many good suggestions Anet could think of:

-remove the TM stones entirely and switch skins with no cost
-make them dirt cheap in the gem store (1 gem per 1 charge), or let us buy in bulks (i.e 700 gems for 500 stones)
-sell an account-wide permanent stone for 1000 gems
-make them tradeable so those who never change their looks can sell away their hundreds of charges
-at the very least make them easier to obtain, like being able to buy them with tomes/gold/karma/whatever.

This is a nightmare for us who, like someone above said, want to experiment and regularly change our skins. The only reliable way to get them is to waste gold on gems, buy with real money, or go to PvP when the season is active.
