Before the confusion nerf and when Chaos Armor was still in it’s original form I ran a perma Chaos Armor build that rocked really really really hard. This is a step in the right direction to make the most fun build I have ever made viable again. Now they just need to change Blinding Befuddlement and I might try running it again. ^^
This is actually reverting it back to the way it used to be when the game started and I am very happy about it. ^^ Except for the internal cool downs that sucks.
OMG SO GLAD THEY ARE REVERTING THIS!!!!!!!!! I hated when they made the protection on use instead of proc. ^^ If they would just fix the blinding befuddlement and increased the confusion damage my Chaos Armor Build will be viable again. ^^
Don’t like these 1second internals though.
It sounds kind of like someone who has lost to a tanky super stealth thief and just let his anger out on you as well. It is perfectly fine to use that kind of tactic as our class is VERY good at it. It doesn’t need a nerf because of 1v1 the game SHOULDN’T be based off of 1v1 situations.
@Haxxen You’re post history indicates to me that you are not one to make direct/indirect attacks at people. You have very constructive criticisms and observations.. What I mean:
_"I also have never been kicked from anything because I mained a Scepter so it may be less the weapon and more the user."
It’s Hexxen with an “e” but that aside, I can’t tell if you are being serious or not cause I personally know I attack people but I fess up to it. ^^
That being said I was less saying that you are simply a bad player and more about the way you talk. If you spoke in a party of mine with the way you worded your first two OPs of the two threads I would kick you as well.
(edited by Hexxen.7216)
My White Witch build uses Scepter. What you are doing however has relatively no point. Aside from the blatant attacks you throw out in your two threads and the arrogance you seem to have in your knowledge, one cannot simply compare weapons because weapons don’t make a character. The weapon is a part of a build for which you provide no traits what so ever or gear or anything. I guess you could actually retrait and then not put traits into ANYTHING and duel with just weapons to find out which is better but I think in that case Scepter would lose and thus not help your “noble” cause for reviving scepter.
I also have never been kicked from anything because I mained a Scepter so it may be less the weapon and more the user.
Scepter 1 + Scepter 2 = Mirrored Images
Kylia said it perfectly but just going to add one thing:
MI = Stun Break
S1+S2 = Not a Stun Break
The only thing I really saw out of that video was that Necro may have gotten really popular? Going to go run through their forums and see what they got.
Thank you. Since someone else has tested and found something I will do some testing tonight as well.
I didn’t mean it cant be used as one but if you don’t have the curten down already you are going to have a near impossible time using as a split second interrupt I feel. I noticed the 1sec a LOT while doing the new AR dungeon these last few days.
Really wish they would take the pause away when in PvE though. It pretty much can’t be used as an interrupt anymore in PvE except on rotation based attacking enemies where you know what is coming.
Outside of that it is just going to take some time to get used to the 1sec which at the moment feels like an eternity.
Is there a hard cap of 100% on Boon Duration like there is on condition damage?
Inspired by Jportell’s “Protection Master”
The difference is that my WW Build is NOT meant to work alone. It is pure support. This build runs with 100% Boon Duration.
I call this a full support but why do I take Sigil of Corruption instead of Sigil of Life? That has to do with minimizing and maximizing. With this build with a full 25 stacks on Life your regens are going to be ticking for 292/s without the stacks it will tick for 261/s. That is a difference of 31/s. However, the difference in your conditions damage with/without stacks are: Bleeds 12.5 difference/stack, Burn 62.5 difference and Confusion in PvE is 37.5 difference while in PvP/WvW is 18.75 difference. Because I mainly developed this build for PvE that means since you can have all those conditions on the enemy at one time the difference in condition damage is 112.5/s. That is much more of a difference than 31 HP/s from regen. ?This math is no longer accurate after the updated version I posted will redo it later.
Since I first posted this build I have tested it a bit more with the 100% boon duration and found that ~95% of the time I do not need Veil to achieve a permanent protection on my party members. That being accomplished by having the protection duration you grant them being longer than the SoI CD of 36s. Due to realizing this fact I have switched it out for Mantra of Pain and taken Restorative Mantras to add some on demand party healing. This is still unaffected by Healing Power unfortunately but it is just yet another form of support the White Witch can wield.
I take the Compounding Celerity because there are many fights where the party is going to be spread out and the fast I can move to run to them to either pop off a few mantra heals or hit SoI so give them boons is very welcome. (The signet CD trait is pretty important for this as well since being able to hit everyone at once can be rather rough.)
Initial Boon Stacking Rotation: Chaos Field -> Chaos Armor -> The Prestige -> Decoy -> MI -> wait for The Prestige CD and hit again -> switch to staff and throw down Chaos Field before you pop out of your Prestige and then hit a final Chaos Armor -> Pop SoI
You will be able to keep up protection full time on your party (or near full time PU is random (Chaotic) after all but it seems to prefer protection) after this initial rotation if the boons are not removed.
Your Role in a Group: Constant Boon support, healing in the form of a 261/s constant regen thanks to phantasms that you are going to be placing strategically to cover as large of an area as possible (this is actually one of the reason iWarlock and iMage are so amazing because they remain stationary unless the enemy gets pretty far away) as well a manual on demand 2,500 HP heal from casting your Mantra of Pain. You do not do direct damage. I cannot stress this enough. I purposefully made the build so you can’t. Your conditions are nothing to win a medal for BUT the do tick nicely and can add an extra little pressure on the enemy.
With a traited Torch your iMage is also going to be curing conditions on his bounces so you are giving pretty constant all be it one at a time condition cleanse.
And that is that. Again I will restate this build is not intended to ever function alone.
Enjoy,
Hexxen

Nope. I have no other lvl 80 job and even if I did all my ascended gear is on my Mesmer. Even if Arale doesn’t agree the changes they made particularly, the iC movement and the Vengful Retaliation nerf have broken the three builds I ran for PvE,PvP and WvW. They seriously took everything from me. I am just going to quit probably.
vengful retaliation broke your three builds? pls do us a favor and quit.
Sorry? It broke two of my builds and they both relied heavily on my Phantasms having constant retal. You don’t think you are being harsh? Also, I will be quitting one FFXIV comes out.
so pls enlighten me, what two (oh really, one post earlier there were three) builds relie heavily on phantasm ret. Do you actually kill your foes with your praised ret.
sry man, this is ridiculous. Go play FF, but i can promise you, you have to adapt there to. Or move on to your next game. Good luck!
Yes, I did kill people with it actually. I am sorry you never experienced the awesomeness of hitting your opponent with 4 sources or about 400 damage retaliation. One of the most popular builds uses the trait as a key factor. Do you read anything on these forums actually or just bash people? Also, iC is what “killed” the other build thus the PATCH killed three builds if you read properly I never said all three builds were killed by vengful but thanks for being a so nice about it. ^^
Stability is not unlimited(also not every class has it). We made it until the 3rd phase. Before then the pull was not that annoying but then it instantly killed and people trying to ress die too.
you could dodge? i mean there are only 2 golems out max. that’s not hard to keep track of. alternatively break line of sight with crates or use stunbreakers; those instantly cancel the knockdown you suffer when being pulled by golems
Dodge on box? Good luck….You have to stand on boxes to avoid lower laser. So you Can NOT dodge it or break line of side.
as i said, i did it with my thief, who has absolutely no stability and it was perfectly doable without being hit even once.
i’m sorry to say that but it’s purely a l2p issueWell if low laser is near you, you jump on box to avoid it and than golem will pull you in front of it is LTP? No you are wrong. You just had luck nothing more.
OK there is chalage for everyone who think it is easy and need no improvements: Log in game inv me to group and show me how easy for you it is.
I got pulled by the golems a lot actually. Dodges and stun breakers make the pull nothing to worry about at all.

Considering just how much more health the Phantasms have in PvE now, do you really mind the CD that much? I only notice it at all on fast-dying trash mobs. :P
They did increase the health but in high level fractals where taking anything but berserker gear is pretty much pointless they will still get one shoted or killed super fast and thus the CD is more important than the 270% health increase.
The Vengful Retaliation nerf killed the Immortal Build and my Retaliation Phantasm (WvW and PvP) the move of the iC didnt KILL persay but severely sucked up my PvE Phantasm.
Prestige-> Viel X2 (cause you can run over it again after you pop out of stealth the first time) ->MI->Decoy-> Prestige (i traited for CD reduction) = 45sec of protection with, 28s of regen and 22s of retaliation with 50% boon duration and 65% protection duration. Yeah I really want to make my full whitemage build i thought up now. lol
Signet of Inspiration that and without condition removal you can keep 100% protection up on a small party.
My whitemage build is full support. I highly doubt I will be able to kill anyone by myself BUT I actually really hate that they did away with the holy trinity because I liked being a White Mage. ^^

I’m actually starting to level the mesmer myself. Of course, I’m leveling and making it as a condition mesmer first and foremost, so a lot of the nerfs to the mesmer aren’t really nerfs to me.
Thats because the condition mesmer nerfs came a while ago. ^^
I said it! I knew it! Perma protection mesmers… We will rule the world!
“I said it! I knew it! Perma protection mesmers….. We will be nerfed into the floor!”
There I fixed that for you.
This may sound arrogant but I have never actually been caught in his AoE abilities. They are super simply to just avoid.
You run a shatter build. You are unaffected.

This along with the move of iC has demolished my Retaliatory Phantasm PvP build. I am most displeased.
Vengeful Images now get 5 seconds and doesn’t reapply. Ouch. ><
My fav ALT is currently Final Fantasy 14 Beta tests and will be Final Fantasy 14 in August where at that time this will become the ALT.
The fixed signet makes the Phantasmal Defender a free +16,5k HP buff to someone nearby. If you don’t want to use that, fine. But it’s too strong to not use for dungeons in all realistic cases.
Trust me I am super happy they fixing the Signet but sorry no high level fractals and actually a lot of cases using iDefender isn’t your best option because he takes 50% damage from everyone in range including other illusions so he may save you like 3k hp at most in a group situation and thus is a wasted slot. He will still die instantly(or very very close to instantly) in high level fracts, which is were I will see the biggest hit to my build from the reorganization of this trait.
Sorry Gaidax but your only partially right. In high level fractals where taking anything but zerker gear is pretty much pointless cause everything hits like a truck even with stacked toughness a lot of phantasm builds don’t even take the Signet or the trait because they still die after one attack and thus being able to pump them out as fast as possible is much more important.
It’s pretty comparable. I mean if you go 30 in arcana you’ll still be fine, but if not ur f’d up beyond repair.
It simply isn’t comparable. The Elementalist Arcane tree has traits that can support pretty much every build from D/D, S/D and Staff. So taking lots of points in it is never a bad thing. The Illusions tree however mainly focuses on shredding where as phantasms are something you want staying around for a while.
Some may say that because SOME phantasms build take 20 already in illusions to get Phantasmal Haste, my build doesn’t take it because at high level fractals there are very few instances where a phantasm will last much longer than their first attack round so being able to trait into all the various CD reductions is much more important. Having to put 25 into lllusions for this CD trait will mean we either have to trait for CD reduction OR damage increases as doing both (for both weapon sets) simply isn’t possible. The damage various being 25 in Inspiration and 10 in Domination. You can do it for one weapon set and that is Sword/Sword & Sword/Focus but who would run that?
If you think a 16 cooldown is stupidly high for a skill that stays on the field until it’s manually destroyed, then you should never touch an elementalist. :P
But anyway, with the proper setup, I usually don’t need to recast my phantasms that often in pve. Casting them once is usually enough to defeat a random pve mob.
Do fractals. The faster you can pump them out the better. This is a huge hit to my fractal build and I am furious. Being able to pump them out fast means you don’t hate yourself so much when using them as shredding food. Guess I have 5 points to work with in my build. TO THE BUILD CALCULATOR.
(edited by Hexxen.7216)
I still use my Phantasm Build though it is drastically different than the normal phantasm builds you linked. Still viable still fun to use. I often am top scorer in tournaments even though really scored don’t mean crap.
Yeah wait till the 25th patch when, if traited, we can run even faster with phantasms out and they get the HP bonus from SoIllusions IMMEDIATELY. SO EXCITED!!!!!!!
Hmm a traited scepter just got interesting. With the CD reduction the Illusionary Counter is on a 7.5s CD and the torment lasts for 8s without condition duration additions. Without condition cleans perma torment? I can see people yelling about that one. Really like that they seem to be turning us into the GW1 shut down class that I heard so much about.
It’s on Illusionary Counter, not on Counterspell, so it’s on block. Would have been better on Counterspell. Also, why is the block even nerfed ? If you are on Scepter, you are highly on a condition set (I do use Scepter on Power though), the block damage is already low ! I guess with a Rampager set it could work well.
So no, not really perma torment.
I realize it is on the block. You will be up in the enemies face for most the battle in the build I am thinking about so you can make it perma cause I have yet to see someone who stops attacking to avoid a block ability. Remember this is still theory obviously since the ability hasn’t even been introduced yet. ^^ But with the CD and the duration there is a strong potential for perma torment.

The problem is Malicious Sceptre is a Master Inspiration trait, and the typical Condition build can’t spare that without weakening the Staff; which despite the problem with bouncing attacks is still the superior condition damage weapon.
Unless the Ether Bolt chain deals condition damage I don’t see Malicious Sceptre being worth taking over Deceptive Evasion, Chaotic Dampening or Illusionary Elasticity.
I disagree. I didn’t weaken my staff and still have the scepter trait. ^^ I for sure do not think Deceptive Evasion is needed.
The Staff relies very heavily on maxing out Staff Clones. While Phase Retreat’s CD is short it will still take 15 seconds, instead of 1 second, to create three Staff Clones.
Also, without 15 in Dueling you lose Sharper Images, which is again a huge part of Staff (and also Sceptre for that matter) DPS.
So no, overall you’d just be weakening yourself by moving 10 points in Dueling into Inspiration.
Again, the torment would be a variation on the normal condition build and would be based on just how much damage it actually does.
Can u send me a link to the “patchnotes”?
sad face, government of Turkey censorships that link :-/ can’t see it
There is a thread with all the updates posted look there. Also, all changes for Phantasm Mesmers has done nothing but make my build stronger. LOVE IT!!!!

I’m going to be trying it out for sure. I love scepters block but the HUGE wind up on the scepter channel has taught me to ignore it as a viable weapon.
I would love scepter to be brought back into the fold which it sound like they’re doing.
Already theory crafted my new condition build/interrupt build. All ready for this to happen. ^^

Still no bounce/pzerker fixes though. :/
They did actually say there had a team looking into the bounce bug on the bug forums. ^^
I am happy about most of these but would really kind of like to see maybe Torment added to iMage as well. Maybe do a double condition hit of confusion and torment making it a shut down move kind of since the enemy wouldn’t be able to do anything but maybe breath without taking more damage.
Mesmer ways of gaining swiftness/and kind of movement speed plus:
1) Focus Off hand.
2) Blink (Long cool down only 900 distance if not treated, even then only 1200 on a long CD)
3) Very skilled usage of Phase Retreat (very short teleport and requires you to have a target be behind you and can put you into combat if you are not really skilled with the distances.
4) Chaos Storm which is on a long cool down and is a random chance of an extremely SHORT swiftness buff.
Other jobs have ways of getting swiftness and I am pretty sure all other jobs have a speed signet. Engineer might not but they can give themselves constant swiftness anyway.
Switching out a Signet before you hit an enemy is MUCH easier than switching out a whole armor set. We are the slowest class OUTSIDE of combat. Our inside of combat mobility is hard to rival so it is really a toss up. BUT I would rather have our in combat mobility than out of combat so really I am ok with what we have.
Trust me FA isn’t feeling that great right now either. DB just has way too many people. They can keep a full large zerg on each map 24/7. It isn’t even worth playing when you are up against them.
Maybe FA is getting a little more attention this week and they just cant handle the pressure without TC constantly pushing us? Could that be why you guys took the silver for the last couple weeks of T2? hmmmm.
I wouldn’t know. I can’t run with zergs or go up against them cause of lag so I am just always solo roaming or with a small havoc group. But just being pushed by TC doesn’t change the fact that you have a kitten ton of people and seem to keep a zerg on every map. Not saying it is like your fault that you have a crap ton of people just an observation. Could be that you don’t always have it but in East-Asian prime time you guys are everywhere in force.
Yeah I knew someone would say this but it simply isn’t true. I have been stomped by even after using the teleport. Not spaming it either. I mean sometimes I do go down while trying to hit 2 on sword and use it right away on accident but that is just that an accident. They do in fact get the stomp off sometimes EVEN if you wait for them to start their stomp before porting. No I can’t give you a video I don’t know how to make one but I am not just some noob spamming it. It glitches sometimes plain and simple. You can say l2p as much as you want it doesn’t matter.
Use 7/6 centaur runes, incl aqua breather.
FAIL
All other classes do not need to loose rune slots on a run speed crap. They already have run speed, so they use runes to give them combat advantages.
So, in fact – run speed is still a mesmer problem. May be not the main one, but still actual.
So… Mesmer’s use the extra utility slot for combat advantages and the rune slots for movement. But.. But! other classes have to use the utility slot for movement giving up combat advantages. Out logic’d?
All classes use utility slots for combat. Or for w/e they want. But only mesmers need to use runes for run speed.
I have thief – and they have no problems cause of signet/passives that give swiftness/N5 bow skill/heart seeker.
Ranger is the fastest class, warriors have no problems, ele too…Got it? Or too hard for u?
Are you serious. Rofl. Okay let’s see. If mesmer’s get movement speed signet they instantly go to #1 on all tpvp tier lists because movement speed is the only thing keeping the OP phantasm build from being effective in tpvp.
Next. Mesmer will be even more whined about in WvW roaming if this happens. I don’t even need to explain. Thanks! I want my Mesmer less whined about not more. I’m sure you want that.
Lastly Mesmer’s have the best incombat mobility, with the ability to consistently kite and stay out of harms way over all other classes while still dishing out very good damage. Giving them a signet is completely unnecessary. Should warriors get a blink then too?
I’m sorry but Mesmer’s already are the best all around class imo and have the best weapon set build diversity of any class. They don’t need a movement signet. It will only make people hate on Mesmers more and induce nerfs in other areas.
Did you catch that? Doubt it.
I don’t know anyone who would use a run signet for a phantasm build. We need all three of those slots for the build.
No I hate auto-target. Yes, if someone stealths then I can’t use my number 2. But being blinded only stops the clone spawning not the teleport. I think we have started arguing about different things lol.
Either way I don’t find stealth stomping OP.
It isn’t a learn to play issue. We still teleport even if we are blinded. The clone just doesn’t spawn. The teleport function is messed up.
However, i’d have to point out how utterly unbalanced downed states are. Most professions can be finished with a simple Blind, because their interupt will then Miss. While some other professions (thief/ele/mesmer) dont care about anything and have a pretty much guarenteed “get out of jail free”-card.
Actually, for Mesmer since we can’t pick where it teleports us to the move actually doesn’t always work. It will sometimes teleport us even closer to the enemy or just beside him and because we are still close the stomp will still land. ALSO, the game feels it is important to put a giant red triangle above the real Mesmer so that doesn’t confuse anyone unless they are nooby.
I do not find stealth stomp unfair. They can be interuppted by an allie.
I do find Mistform stomps to be OP as they cannot be stopped by anything. “Why is that OP the skill is working as planned?” Well that may be the case but why can’t a necro stomp in Death Shroud? I honestly didn’t like when they made it impossible to use other skills while in MistForm but stomping while in it is OP in my eyes.
Trust me FA isn’t feeling that great right now either. DB just has way too many people. They can keep a full large zerg on each map 24/7. It isn’t even worth playing when you are up against them.
