Shatter doesn’t have to be the focus but really if your opponent is about to die why not just Mind Wreak it to death since the illusions are going to poof once it dies anyway. Might as well get a last small AoE burst out of them instead of just watching them disappear.
Well I simply don’t agree with you. We have a substantial amount of CD removal it is just that many people feel that other abilities are more important to take.
I run with torch and the domination trait for it and have pretty much no issue with conditions at all. Honestly this isn’t a L2P situation it is simply that you gota sacrifice a bit to get the condition removal but it can be done and you can see be very useful to your team.
Hexxen, so what’s this condition build of yours? Link?
It’s really just Varconi’s with some variation in the gear a bit to give more VIT is all. Runs great.
Only thing I can see Mesmer as being weak at is running with a zerg which I don’t do anyway. Everything else I think they did take us down a few notches but I am doing fine with. Even though I did have to rework pretty much every build I was using
I think a lot of people seem to be thinking incorrectly. The new (actually old cause they simply reverted it back to the old version but added an ICD) isn’t bad. It is actually much much better. What is bad, is that because we have so many ways to apply chaos armor through finishers the Staff #4 move is what sucks. It is simply not strong enough to shine anymore because of how many other ways we can apply the armor. I would like a removal of the ICD but that simply wont happen. What I really want is a rework of Staff#4 now. If they did that I would be a happy purple butterfly factory.
I don’t use DE in my condition build. I don’t use Bleed on Crit Phantasms either. I rock 1v3 easily enough. Less than 3 enemies and I don’t even really have to try.
Razer Naga Gaming Mouse. 12 buttons on the side and I use them all. It took a good deal of getting used to but once I got it under control I noticed an extreme increase in my response times. Never look back. 12 Buttons is the way to go. ^^
I can not make videos but I summed an iMage since they super weak on a PvP golem and was getting constant regen from it of 5-6s. I do have boon duration on the build i had when I was testing it but it hasn’t changed at all. At least I don’t see the change. The regen radius is very small it almost looks like the phantasm runs out of range from you and then dies before it hit another pulse. Which is normal.
Awesome. Thanks. ^^
Does the Shrapnel trait count for turrets when you force blow up or when you have them traited to blow up on death?
Yeah just tested too. Phantasmal Healing is unaffected.
I don’t really think Chaos is underused anymore with the buff to PU.
As for scepter…. bleed bleed poison?? Mmmm where i have seen that?? Ohh necro septer!! Now add that 3 more times! Posion on scepter i dont think its a good idea considering you + 3 clones can be stacking it.
Scepter Clones only cast Either Bolt (the first part of the chain) so if it went bleed bleed poison the enemy would only be getting stacks of bleeds from the clones which isnt that op at all.
Well someone mentioned that they may have shadow nerfed out Phantasmal Healing like they did our Vengeful Images where it isn’t a constant but limited time buff. Not home yet to test.
no mesmer nerf
Phantasmal healing = reduced to 2s from 5s
enjoy !
They really dislike inspiration
Where did you find this? If this is real they nerfed a major part of our support builds ><
I don’t really mind that WAR got torment on their sword off hand (I have honestly never seen a sword off hand WAR before) but doesn’t it just feel wrong? Torment is a condition that is magic based. WAR can cause bleeds because pokey pokey will make anyone bleed but torment is magic. Like i said I don’t mind but I think they broke their lore a bit too much with that one.
Have you seen sword 4? It’s a giant sword sticking out of the forehead. I would find that rather… tormenting.
Can’t say I have ever been hit by it or used it on my war before but I can see where you are coming from. I just imagined Torment as a mental state thus Mesmer/Necro territory but I forgot Thief got it as well so I guess it works. I retract my statement.

PvE stuns can be useful. Stuns are hella useful in PvP. The thing about PvE is that they are useful but usually a waste as the only mobs you really need to worry about stunning are bosses and they have defiant and you have to use so many of your stuns just to get those defiant stacks off it is kinda pointless. That being said Diversion is easily the best skill for removing stacks of defiant.
Maybe so, But you can stack them quickly and easily. So no worry about them being cleared. You then get Cripple and Random conditions on death works great with Mirror Blade, but is pretty useless with Phase Retreat. Bleed on crit works GREAT with iZerker can easily stack 4 bleeds per attack, the iLock…1 so yeah thats not that great.
“Way better” how so? 3 conditions on a 35second cool down (without trait) and 3 applied at random on the Auto Attack, though nice nothing “Choas” about that the fact that Clones have ONE attack with no bounces means 1 Bleed and random condition.
The Greatsword clones do Spacial Surge which is 3 ticks of damage, giving 3 chances at Bleeding. So 1 iZerker and 2 GS Clones and you can EASILY hit 10+ stacks of bleeding.
So while the Staff clones give an additional condition the GS clones die on the target alot more often so gaining Cripple and Random conditions so the benefit from the clone giving a condition with its attack isnt that great seeing as when they die they are rarely on/near the target.
Now if Clones attack BOUNCED and was affected by the Trait that would change things but currently they dont and the attack speed is pitiful.
I agree that GS is good but I do agree staff is better. GS clones get a bleed stack on crit and they attack 3times per round = 3 chances. That is indeed good. Staff clones however can also get that chance at bleed on crit, plus a for sure condition one of which is burn and severally damaging. So 1 Staff clones get 1 chance and 1 for sure compared to 3 chances. I will take staff for the for sure thing and extra varied conditions. Now take the phantasms. iZerker is great finally does ok damage and is relatively reliable now and gets 4 chances at stacking bleeding. iWarlock gets 1 attack that is 1 chance at bleeding. However thanks to all those staff clones and yourself you its damage go way up. Also, staff clones dont get an extra bounce but they do bounce so that is potential boons for you.
Now onto you whole on death traits. I don’t really understand/agree at all with your claim they die closer more often. Most the time Phase Retreat is used to gain distance and at least for me I fight with staff up in their faces so my clones spawn right beside them as well. So really there is no difference there. Both die equally as fast. Ok maybe a ranged attacker will kill a staff clone at range but really if a ranged attacker is killing your GS clones while the are beside them then the enemy is weak and shouldn’t be considered in the data.
Staff is the best weapon we got for condition builds. However, I can see GS being a good support weapon for them as well but staff remains the core.
The build you posted kind of looks like a half drunk glamour build since you take blind on glamour but not blinding befuddlement. Pure confusion based builds don’t do too great anymore thanks to the nerf hammer. However, condition builds are still viable (at least on small scale roaming/havoc play). Try out this:
This is this build https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/mesmer/BUILD-Condition-build-for-roaming-WvW/first#post2455453 but with a few shaman pieces because I wanted more raw vitality. I am doing absolutely fantastic with it right now easily solo camps and can take 1v3 with little effort.
Your suggests effectively make the Staff a confused weapon. Is it power/crit or is it condition. Middle of the road hardly ever works well in this game.
The only thing staff needs is to apply the extra bounce for clones.
Making Chaos Armor like frost aura that gives a solid 10% reduction AND granting random protection procs is simply OP. We can apply almost a constant chaos armor on ourselves and not sacrifice much to do it. My longest was a solid 1.5min of constant chaos armor.
The staff is simply an amazing weapon probably one of the best in the game for any class.
Staff is amazing in my condition build I have been using. I wouldn’t mind if they removed the 1sec CD on condition application but I do love getting Protection from procs now.
Scepter is a great weapon. I totally love it in WvW. I would love to see the auto-attack either add a condition to it (confusion probably because Torment was meant to be a Necro thing and giving Mesmers two ways to apply it over the Necros one would just never stop the QQn) OR speed up the auto-attack. Everything else is fine for me.
I play with Auto Attacks off Auto mode because I don’t like being thrown out of stealth one accident and I too have had times when doom simply hasn’t proced.
You do put the healing to use A LOT since you get chances at regen when you are invis and from the minor trait when you go below 75% health. Plus the regen from Phantasms. The extra toughness and subsequent condition damage as well as lowering the duration of stuns and conditions which is really nice since the new terror necro builds cause it effectively lowers the fear duration by 50% since fear counts as a condition and a stun. The extra healing you get from Dwayna isn’t needed neither is the duration because you already have pretty much constant regen.
OK with some more days on this build it is simply amazing in WvW like I previously said. But today I took it into PvP and though it worked ok it didn’t kill fast enough. The enemies were pretty much always able to stay alive till backup came. Plus all the invis isn’t that great when trying to take or defend a point. You find this build ok in PvP?
Pretty beastly on the dredge boss.
I don’t use Moa actually cause I find it gimmicky. I would rather have it removed for something useful.
Even when doing it from stealth there are just so many ways for the enemy to avoid being hit with it. EVEN STILL giving them a way to run away is simply silly.
^ doesn’t know that mesmer can stealth.
Actually, that is why I said the “if I catch you off guard” part but thanks for playing.
It’s kinda useless now, its runs like….600 units.
If they did it was a shadow fix and if they did then thank god.
“Here let me use a ridiculously long CD elite on you that you can easily VERY EASILY dodge and not get hit by but on the off chance I catch you off guard don’t worry I am nice and give you an escape plan.”
Yeah I think you lost some cred when you said sword required skill but not the other weapons.
Ran the build tonight. Replaced some pieces with Shamen’s Gear for more vit. This build is awesome. Constantly took 1v3 down with little problem. Soloed camps with no issues. This build is nice plain and simple.
A lot of people like to call this a cookie cutter phantasm build but really the variation in which way people have developed builds to utilize phantasms is so drastically different I would say there is no longer a cookie cutter. If you are going for a pure damage build then you might be on the right track though.
This looks like all the videos were taken well before the confusion nerf and the Curtain delay nerf. How is this build running now?
I don’t consider a build worth anything if it can’t solo a camp. Most the builds posted on this forum can do so. I always take out the pistol users first cause they are annoying. Then the Charr then the Guild Claimer. The Quarter Master and Dolyaks usually die from AoE while doing this.
Average speed/safety is a Phantasm Build.
Safest/slowest is Pyro’s Immortal (but I don’t use it anymore after the VI nerf)
Fastest/least safe is a Shatter Build
Funnest is my Bubble Build.
These are my experiences.
(edited by Hexxen.7216)
Phantasms are illusions put into the world by the mesmer manipulating the minds of the opponents into thinking they are being hit by something and thus the body damages itself. Nothing scientific about it.
Phantom Mage from torch needs a damage buff, it’s the weakest (by far).
There always has to be a “weakest” of anything but I do agree it needs tweeked.
I don’t like developing and gearing up a build only to have it nerfed the next update.
Another question: If i get hit with (lets say) 1000 damage and I would get protection, does that come b4 or after the damage? So will I recieve 666 or 1000 damage?
After.
I can tell you what everyone else would do,
Smoke Field = “Meh thats ok”
Illusion Assassin = OP QQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQ
Damage from back x#= Thief isn’t unique at all anymore QQQQQQQQQQQQQQ
Main Hand Pistol, meh.
The builder you used can be switched to a PvE mode so you can put gear in and food. All and all good write up though.
There are 2 things I hate about the Mesmer
1: My dragons tooth criting doesn’t kill there clones WTF (it will only take 1 or 2 attacks says Anet … meanwhile back at one of the strongest ele attacks …)2: Stealth. Mesmer fights without stealth are really fun. Mesmer fights with stealth are just stupid.
1) that depends on the build, Mesmers have traits and Signets that buff up Phantom (and clone i think) health
2) Pretty much required due to the fact of “Target” Function – Be thankful its not as bad as Perma-stealth thieves…
I don’t mind a short stealth to make me require target, but some of those stealths are a bit stupid.
The reason I hate the clone hp is due to the fact that I will pick a clone (after he makes me lose target) that is doing something odd (because they bugg out every now and then) and start attacking it thinking “must be the real one with this much health” burn through my burst (not much on an ele) kill it and hey presto, it was a clone.1 more thing, why do the clones randomly aggro to other player?
That is kind of the point of the clones is to confuse you into attacking the wrong thing.
Clones randomly aggro to other players? Can you explain more. I know our clone on dodge trait can pull out a clone that simply attacks the closest thing but this may have been fixed recently as I have stopped playn for the time being.
I would LOVE if they did this BUT the torch is a condition weapon so they would need to drop the raw power and add maybe Torment to it. As of right now it hits like a truck and the QQn would be redic if we got this outside of downed state.
just a weird change if it ain’t broke don’t fix it applies here.
imo reliable transformed into rng =nerf as far as i concerned.
for all i care even if they made it to have 33% to oneshot ppl i still would call it a nerf.
but i dont mind it much i can live with this.
and i`ll add its silly to have this long cd now they need to lower it,the skill as of now doesn’t deserve it.
You now have a change to get protection from even combo finisher versions of Chaos Armor. This is in no way a nerf at all as it has upped our collective protection time.
Pure Condition I would say no, but many of our best support builds double as condition builds. I would look into Chaos’ Support Mesmer Build List and give all those builds a gander and see what ya think.
I love Mesmer and loved leveling it up the normal way but I always suggest to people who post these kinds of threads that if it isn’t their first character to level it up to about 40 with crafting and then do maps.
The build has been changed to work in the awesomeness that is PU. I will be testing tonight (live in Japan) and will fill out the a guide and more info later on.
The current build you see is for sure not the final product.
Okay lets put it this way…. Guaranteed protection from staff #4 gone. HOWEVER in combat overall protection uptime got INCREASED. Protection is the baby of my build and I tested this. Overall protection uptime through fields and staff 4 is UP…. Not a nerf a bug fix. Let us stop whining now.
That’s the spirit. I’ve been wondering how much protection uptime can be obtained without using PU, maybe playing something like Hexxen’s bubble build. I’m might try that out later in PvP with full boon duration runes to see.
I am currently reworking the Bubble Build a bit to add in PU as well. ^^ I LOVE this “nerf” ahahahahaha
