I just couldn’t find the right word I guess. Maybe it’s supposed to be “if it isn’t obtainable in many ways”. I have 8 alts, means that I won’t be keeping up with the progression, especially with it being time gated. Who is to say that they won’t increase the level cap? Who is to say that the raids that they’re talking about won’t require this gear tier? I’m afraid of the fate of WoW. Suddenly you’re left behind.

I think that, if you look at their previous changes, this stuff will be attainable in various ways. Just because this preview post didn’t say anything other than crafting and drops doesn’t mean you wont be able to use other items. It’s a bit too early, in my opinion, to freak out about the possibility of RNG being involved and there only being 2 ways of getting these.

Technically, you can do whatever you want. Play however you want. Are you always going to be ideal for everything in game? Probably not.
You can still farm, but after awhile you don’t get as great of rewards. You don’t NEED the new gear that they’ll release in order to play the game.

I like how they look and the effects they have, plus it gives me a long term goal. Good enough for me.

It took me about 5 months of half hearted dedication to get my Moot. During those 5 months, sometimes, I was so poor I couldn’t even waypoint. I didn’t run much CoF, I just played whatever I wanted to play and bought all my materials. My precursor was gifted to me on my birthday. I had the gold, but they told me to keep it. Plus, it was “only” 50g at the time :P

For my second one (Sunrise) I’ve decided that’s not how I want to do it. I’ve been playing the game the way I enjoy, dungeons, world exploration, maybe some CoF farming twice a month, and I’m about halfway through my stacks of t6, 3/4 done with Gift of Mastery, and working through my Gift of Sunrise.
The precursor is the “hardest” part, imo. Not just because it can be really expensive, but because you will have people around you who get them out of the forge or as drops. I recently had two guildies gamble in the forge with exotics and get the Predator and the Lover on each of their 7th try. It was so hard not to dump all my gold into exotics and try for my Dawn.
Can you get lucky? Yes, yes you can. Will you get lucky? Chances are most likely, nope.
Since you’re somewhat of a new player, I’d say work on the gift of mastery first. Getting 100% map completion should give you a decent amount of materials to sell or use towards your gifts, as well as rewards for finishing each map.

As far as Legendaries being super common, I usually ignore that as a reason not to get it. If you like it enough to spend months working towards it, then do it. If you don’t want it anymore because everyone else has it, then you didn’t really want it in the first place.

I don’t regret spending my gaming time working towards the Moot and I still don’t regret spending it towards getting Sunrise. Legendaries are pretty and I love staring at them, which is what they’re mostly for :P

Congrats on being so close! You could maybe hop into a karma train in WvW if your server is doing those. Pop all your boosts and just cap cap cap.

Two guildies got lucky yesterday and got theirs out of about 7 or 8 tries each with exotics in the MF. I’ve probably spent over 100g on tries with rares and exotics in the mystic forge, which isn’t much compared to others. I think I used up all my precursor luck when the Trident dropped for me off a supply camp defender in WvW. /cries

My “Search for a Precursor” will continue with massive CoF farming for gold and using the tokens I get to buy exotic greatswords for the forge. Not the best route, but I dun even care at this point.

Yeah, what Hebee said. If you have multiple 80’s use orrmaps and make the run on each character. Depending on how many you have you can get almost a stack (250) of ori each day along with omnomberries and ancient wood.

How many 80s do you use to get a stack? I have 6 and didn’t even get close… although, I never went to frostgorge or southsun much after the rich node was removed.

I main a guardian, and I agree. I have the medium and light dragon helms sitting in my bank because they don’t really look good on other armor types. I haven’t previewed the achievement armor on anything but a heavy class, but I imagine it looks out of place. I really hope they stop doing the one and done skins. Is it incredibly difficult to create three types?

Also, you’re right. I forgot about traveling from LA to Arah. That’s just something I generally do as a leveling mechanism, so I forget about that run.

I’m probably going to go Radiant, but still no idea what I’m going to do with it. It looks awesome on guardians, but I already have human t3 and Arah…I don’t know what the heck I’d do with a third armor set.

I definitely am. Having that achievement staring at you and reminding you that you only need two more pistol kills for the points is a wonderful motivator. I’m really glad they implemented it because I also had no idea how close I was to finishing some of the acheivements.

As far as dungeons go, you don’t really need to get to the dungeon waypoint, at least the first time. So the whole, “wait 10 minutes for me to run there LOL” argument is null. You only need to be in the zone that the dungeon is in to get the Joining Party Members pop up.

I 100% the map on one character who used to be my main and who is no longer my main. For awhile, I did guild missions on the character I didn’t prefer to play, but got tired of it. So I just did a quick zone run. It doesn’t actually take too long to run to most places if you know where you’re going. I can’t remember any time during a bounty hunt where I missed the bounty because I couldn’t run there in time. Maybe the Prisoner.

I didn’t play any games where unlocking a waypoint or flight path on one character unlocked it on all of them, so maybe I just don’t understand the necessity or feeling of that being my right as a player.

I didn’t feel like getting to 6k achievement points was too much work. I didn’t even grind for the points, just played what I wanted to, which did happen to involve all the jumping puzzles, dungeons, fractals, and boss achievements.

I farmed SE to buy some boots, ran to the vendor and bought the shoulders, which I already had. Salvaged for ectos and farmed SE more, ran to vendor and bought the light armor boots…for my guardian. Salvaged for ectos.

Saved up some karma for cleric’s boots, bought the shoulders, which I already had.

Farmed TA for some boots, bought the light armor boots for my guardian.

This is a problem I can’t seem to get over.

I threw in 180 greatswords a few weeks back and got 12 exotics, then i threw those in as well, like an idiot. Still no Dawn, but I’m done gambling. I’ll finish the other pieces and then see about saving up or waiting it out.

Is this related to the SB Nerf? I think weapons will rise and fall with balance patches and that shouldn’t take away the “end game” of a legendary. People usually get legendaries because they like how they look. I’m a guardian with The Moot, but I generally use GS, Staff, or Hammer. My legendary is purely because I love it. There are probably still people out there who want the Dreamer (myself and a few guildies included) regardless of the nerf. I wish I wasn’t saving my money for Dawn or I’d snatch up the Lover while it’s on the “cheaper” end.

If I liked and wanted that cosmetic then I would want it to be attainable in a way that wasn’t completely unenjoyable for me.

So, I reiterate- it will only be a problem for me if the items are only available via raiding. As long as they are available anywhere else as well, I can’t see there being any issue.

If the items are available elsewhere, there is really no reward for doing the content. If you could buy TA armor, who would really do TA? I, myself, probably would since I do enjoy that dungeon, but the majority of people who run it for the gear, wouldn’t.
I think that there needs to be some “rewards” specific to certain content. I like the fractal weapon skins, but I don’t really like high level fractals. What does that mean? Well, I wont be getting those fractal skins and that’s fine. Let the people who love fractals and are willing to put time into them have those skins.

On topic: I would love guild halls. My guild likes to hang out in an area and goof around. Right now, we do that in DR but it’d be a lot nicer if we just had our own lil area. I really hope these show up before the end of the year.

I would love raid like content to do with my guild. The missions are fun, but not as coordinated or combat heavy as I’d like. I wouldn’t care for a tier of gear above ascended, but skins that only drop from specific instances, like the fractal ones, would be awesome.

I’ve done this so many times and I just smack myself in the face and salvage for ectos. It already has giant red text that says you can’t use the armor, but for some reason that’s not good enough for most of our eyes. I just see that it’s the stats I want in the dungeon I want and buy it. /sigh
Account bound would be lovely, but until that happens, I guess just remember to check that it’s the armor type, armor piece, and stats that you want.

I love this new dungeon and have been pretty lucky in completing it each time I’ve entered. I have guildies who wont touch it with a ten foot pole after wiping in the lazer room, but the majority of them are willing to keep trying.
It’s challenging and the reward is much better than the normal dungeon. I usually leave with close to 2g in under an hour. It’s no CoF farming, but hey, better than Arah and still just as fun!

There’s a reason why I stopped doing Arah once I got the armor pieces I wanted. I don’t feel that it’s worth the time it takes to do it. I can run CoF in 10 minutes and get the same amount of gold, if not more, than I get in an hour spent in Arah. Yes, Arah can be done in 30 minutes, but still. In that time I can make 3g+ in CoF as opposed to the maybe 80s I’ll make in Arah.
I’ve had a guildie asking for Arah path 4 help, and I just keep telling him that the 3 hours I’m going to spend in there is not worth the 66 tokens I’ll gain and sanity I’ll lose when the Simin chest gives me a blue rampager shield.
I’m currently working towards Dawn, and it’s a really disheartening battle. Honestly, if Anet was like, we’ll give you a precursor, just run Arah Path 4 every day for 3 weeks, I’d throw a kittening party.

I’m working towards a second legendary and I’ve never done much grinding. Every few days I’ll join a guildie on some CoF farming, but that’s almost relaxing for me. /shrug
I love dungeons, so I run dungeons and make gold and mats from doing that. Just because you hate farming doesn’t mean you need to give up on your legendary goals.
My philosophy is similar to yours, in that, if I don’t enjoy doing it, why am I doing it? CS Farming and T6 farming drives me insane within about 5 minutes, so I don’t do those. Is money coming a bit slower than it would if that was all I did? Yeah, but I’m definitely enjoying my time in game more than I would if I was farming.

Congratulations! I think 7 months isn’t too bad of a time for a legendary. It took me about 4 months to get my Moot and it doesn’t even use lodestones and the precursor was also under 50g when I got it.

No “leveling” is not playing the game. level 80 in WvW is playing the game. Running dungeons at 80 is playing the game. Leveling your 6th character is a dull boring romp though desolate zones.

PvE is player versus environment. If you don’t enjoy leveling through killing the environment, GW2 probably isn’t for you. I understand wanting to get to the dungeons faster, but that’s what should drive your leveling.
I’ve leveled three characters purely through map completion, and 3 characters through a mix of map completion, dungeons, and crafting. Never have I bought gems and converted them to gold for craft leveling. I think you over estimate the amount of people willing to do that.
The majority of people I know who have leveled purely through crafting, did so with gold they had made off their 80s that they leveled through map completion and dungeons.
I also believe that, even though you don’t have all your skills and trait points, leveling through playing the game makes you better at your class. A few classes have mechanics that you really need to learn, like eles attunements and thieves blinds and evades. You only learn how to use those through experience. I’d rather learn those at level 6 in Queensdale than level 80 in Arah.

I have noticed that a lot of my gw2 youtube subs haven’t been releasing much content lately, and it makes me sad.

That said, I think that using the terms “hard core” and “casual” is…annoying. You’re pigeon holing people into stereotypes that have entirely different definitions based on who is saying them.
I’ve been called “casual” by people who think that “hard core” means WvW every day, all day, and dedicating all your resources to leading your server to victory. I am definitely not casual, just ask my bf who has to deal with me playing for at least 2 hours a day since release. Am I getting bored? Yeah, a little bit, but that’s mostly because a lot of my guild has resorted to CoF all day erry day.

Can a game cater to a more relaxed game play as well as a content eating style? I don’t think so. Guild Wars 2 always advertised the ability to play how you want to play, and people really took that stupid phrase to heart. Yes, you can get just about everything in the game by playing however you want to play, even if that is only sitting in Queensdale killing river drakes, but it’ll take you longer to get exotic gear than someone who runs Arah on a regular basis.
Are people okay with that? No. They want what they want when they want it, which is now. If Anet would just stop catering to all the QQers and make the game they want, I think we’d be better off.

I’m really excited for this and wish it had happened just a smidge earlier…we just had a ton of birthdays in my guild.

This will be nice for guild contests though. I don’t need to go buy a card at best buy and email them the code, can just send them a mini set or something.

I have the Moot on my guardian and am currently working towards Sunrise, because I hate myself.

I definitely agree that Meteorlogicus and the Minstrel need some love. The Minstrel maybe a little bit more than Meteorlogicus. The focus is so blah. It’s giant and strange colored…at least give it some better effects. The scepter is pretty awesome, if not awkwardly sized for a scepter, but could use a trail or footprints. It’s one of the only legendaries I’d consider getting on an Asura, since it is generally giant.

Someone said Frostfang needed work and I’d love to hear why they think that. It’s pretty cool as is and has a nice trail and effect. The ice on the arm could use some work as it is sorta awkward looking right now. I have a friend with Rodgort and maybe the trail on that one could be bigger? It’s like a tiny burning coal gets left behind with a step, but that is an offhand weapon.

I’ll probably have to stop PuGing when I get Sunrise because I’ll feel bad with all the effects during fights, but I still want it so bad, if only just to stare at it and swing it around by myself in DR.

I apparently have the opposite problem of a lot of people in this thread and love too many legendaries. I’m hoping to someday have Bifrost, Sunrise, Flameseeker, and the Dreamer, on top of my Moot. -.- Gives me something to do in game, i suppose.

Megadestroyer event, SE1/3, and Fractals. Or farm gold and buy them.
These things are easier to get than Charged lodestones if you can get groups to run the previously mentioned things. Paths 1 and 3 of SE can take 15 minutes a piece. I’ve yet to experience a 15 minute CoE run. -.-

Think about what they did to just dominate you, and fix it. I dont’ run sPvP, but I have no problems at all with my Guardian in WvW. I’m not running a bunker build, but I am more of a tanky guard. One of the things I’d watch out for with necros is that skill they have which switches all your boons for conditions. This skill alone caused me to switch out “Save Yourselves!” As soon as a necro sees you pop that skill, they’ll cover you in conditions and then spread that to all your party members.
The best thing you can do is to keep playing. I got killed a lot in WvW when I first started, but the more I played, the more I learned my class and what skills and weapons to use.

Good choice Moot’s my favorite. I’m glad to hear the effects are still there even if it’s in the OH slot. I would test it, but I run Moot on guardian and OH Mace isn’t really an option… GL and enjoy the disco and fireworks!

This is why I always buy about $10 of gems before a patch shows up.

1. I’m aiming for Frostfang and the moot. I really want Frostfang, but I already have the Energizer.
2. Do you have any gifts? If so, which one? I have a few gifts. Just finished the Gift of Mastery yesterday. I also have half of the Gift of Fortune. Just need gift of Magic and about 200 ectos. I already have The Energizer and most of the gift of Frostfang. I’m all over the place >.<

3. Which gift are you working on? And how far have you come on it? I’m currently working on any gift really. Anytime I get a gold, it goes into buy orders for t6 mats. I also farm ori and save gossamer. I have 4 80s though, so I can get all the ori I need in like 2 days.

4. Addition information you want us to know, maybe a picture. I’m crazy and aiming for 2 legendaries at once. I’ll probably get the moot first and then work on Frostfang. I just don’t want to deal with the forge or saving 400g for the precursor atm.

I changed my legendary to JUST the Moot since I had the precursor. Ended up selling all the lodestones and such that I had for frostfang and made enough to buy the last half of my stack of dust and 100 blood.

Finished my Gift of Fortune yesterday. All I have left is 96 runestones. CoF, here I come!

One of the parts of making a legendary is proving you mastered at least 2 crafting professions. As such, it is mandatory to do it yourself.

Volcanus isn’t really a legendary, I don’t even think it’s one of the more difficult psuedolegendaries.

Your friend could craft it, but they’d have to craft the entire weapon for you. The Vial is accountbound on creation, so you’d have to send the rest of the items needed to make it to your friend and have them throw them all in the forge.

OR, you can level cooking for less than 5g and not have any of these worries.

Yeah, I got my 500 ingots in about a week of lazy farming with my 5 80s. The only thing that was hard was having to map it myself, because no one on Ehmry apparently likes to either mark it on the map or find it.
I don’t know how many level 70+ chars he has, so for someone who doesn’t have that many, it might be something to keep in mind and start doing somewhat regularly. I hated having to run ori 5+ times a day. It’s mind numbing and tedious.

Also, if your gift needs Ori, which I’m fairly sure it does, make sure to be doing daily ori runs. If you get all the nodes, 2 in frostgorge, 2 in southsun, 5 in CS, and 5 in ML, you can get 42 ori ore a day, at least.

Knockbacks are incredibly annoying. A lot of my dungeon mates run ranger, and they knock the guys EVERYWHERE. I get very annoyed. One of my friends just finished leveling his mesmer. He kitten loves the pushback. Seriously. You were in 0 danger from those mobs. No one was in danger from those mobs. You did not need to move them elsewhere.
When I’m using hammer on my guardian, I always try to throw down the containment circle before i use my knockback, sometimes the containment circle doesn’t work because you have to stay rooted. /sigh. That’s when I start apologizing all over the place.

I don’t play ele too much, but I have felt the combo field pain. I usually try to at least get some area might from the fire circle and dragons tooth or phoenix. It’s pretty annoying when someone throws something unnecessary in my way. Most of the time, I don’t notice ele’s fields in time to capitalize on them with leap skills.

I’m a little on the fence for this idea. Partly because I play a guardian, and on partly because I play a warrior. I think having mostly, or all, dps is only good for structured groups that you regularly dungeon with. I have done way too many PuGs where dps characters are relying way too much on randoms they pick up to keep them alive. Luckily, I tend to lean a bit more towards the support on my guardian, so I do my best. Sometimes I have to work so hard though, and they probably don’t even notice.
That’s the other thing with support, is that most of the time, people don’t even notice it’s there. You can assume that you’re doing so great because your group is all dps, but you might not have even seen the fact that your health just jumped, or you blocked a big attack thanks to someone giving out aegis, or now you have regen because the ele through out a water field.
My guild CoF group tends to be all dps, and it’s amazing, and even when I PuG CoF, I’ll keep my dps gear on me in case we get a good make up, but when it comes to Arah, TA, or even AC, I like to have at least a half support char around.

Can I please have some of your luck? I thought I was the RNG queen when I put in 4 blue items and got a green one.

I have quite a bit of my bank space taken up by these character bound items. It’d be great if I could just stack them instead of having 5 slots for each of the items.

Dont by the precourser then realise you need that 600g for t6 mats stones etc, you may well get a lucky drop grinding out those you might find the price goes down there are more for sale now than there was, you might descide on a new main and get some thing else or OMG they migh introduce the scavanger hunt and you can earn one for free

If you already have everything, then I’d just save up to buy the precursor. It’s the most guaranteed way to get it. The price might rise, but they seem to have been sort of steady for a few weeks..ish..maybe. Ideally, you’ll be saving up and then BAM scavenger huntor karka chest will happen and prices will drop. Worst is that the price will suddenly start rising again. I’m feeling as though 600g is as high as it will hit for awhile. Fingers crossed!

First off, make sure you’re doing your dailies and monthlies. Those give you the mystic coins you’ll need for the clover recipes. You can also buy these on the TP, and yes, they’re not that expensive anymore.

Start with clovers and map completion. The best way to get ectos is to farm CoF or the world bosses. I prefer CoF because it’s a guaranteed 1g ish plus 60 tokens, which equals 2 rares from the token vendor. Whereas a dragon event only guarantees one rare.
If you farm CoF for ectos, you’ll also be making gold to buy more ectos or coins, or to save up for things like t6 materials.

My main advice is to start saving up ectos, Obsidian shards, and coins while working on map completion. It’s better, imo, to just make a big go at clovers when you have a large amount of the items you need for the recipes. It’s a little less disheartening to get 77 out of 200 tries than 1 out of 10 tries.

The first thing I did for my legendary was buy the bloodstone shard from melani. It’s 200 skillpoints, so doing that can really hinder your ability to make clovers unless you have a TON of them. I had multiple chars to make clovers on, so I never ran out, but I’m not sure if I’d advise doing it that way.

My currently lvl 35 guardian has been wearing t2 human pieces since she was lvl 5. My lvl 20 engie is wearing a lvl 75 exotic piece After world completing 1 time and 2 half times, I have an over abundance of transmute stones.

The other day, running a story dungeon was part of the daily achievement. Not sure if anyone has said that yet. People were running AC story quite a bit, since it tends to go by pretty fast.
We had a guildie watching the story cutscenes. Yeah, it was a bit annoying, but he hadn’t run it before. Some people just don’t run dungeons.

I would have gotten nervous as well, about what they were planning to do to that person. It only takes 2 people to kick someone. I think that you should have said something before dropping group. It probably looked like you left because that person was watching the cutscene. You probably scarred him forever! He’ll never watch a cutscene again in his gaming life for fear of a group falling apart. You are a life ruiner.
