kitten is how Anet censors these forums. If you type in a “bad” word, it changes it to kitten. I think skunked means he’s having bad luck. I’ve been having pretty bad luck too. I was having a rare-a-palooza in CS and CoF yesterday. About 10 rares in 2 hours (great for me), ended up with maybe 5 ectos. Then I salvaged the 5 rares I got from CoF tokens and got 4 ectos.
I’d suggest leveling w/o crafting on your first char. Crafting is sort of like the rich man’s leveling system. If you want new gear, I’d suggest buying blues off the TP every 10 levels or so or, if you’re in a level appropriate area, heart vendors should have stuff you can buy with karma.
If you really want to level crafting, then do something like Armorsmithing/Chef or Tailor/Jewelcrafting. You want as few crossover mats as possible. You could do Jewelcrafting and Armorsmithing or Weaponsmithing, but you’d need to farm a lot of copper and mithril. I don’t think any of the other mats cross over.
Crafting boosters are your friend as well, if you’re lucky enough to get one.
1. I’m aiming for Frostfang and the moot. I really want Frostfang, but I already have the Energizer.
2. Do you have any gifts? If so, which one? I have a few gifts. Just finished the Gift of Mastery yesterday. I also have half of the Gift of Fortune. Just need gift of Magic and about 200 ectos. I already have The Energizer and most of the gift of Frostfang. I’m all over the place >.<
3. Which gift are you working on? And how far have you come on it? I’m currently working on any gift really. Anytime I get a gold, it goes into buy orders for t6 mats. I also farm ori and save gossamer. I have 4 80s though, so I can get all the ori I need in like 2 days.
4. Addition information you want us to know, maybe a picture. I’m crazy and aiming for 2 legendaries at once. I’ll probably get the moot first and then work on Frostfang. I just don’t want to deal with the forge or saving 400g for the precursor atm.
I’d suggest going for CoF as, if you find an experienced group, you can run all three paths in about an hour. An hour a day for about 207 tokens is not bad at all. Check gw2lfg for groups. It’s a pretty nice system.
Experienced AC runs for all 3 paths takes about an hour and a half. That one’s a little harder with a PuG sometimes because of those burrows.
The speed at which you can get the full set depends on how many characters you have to run it on and how long you want to spend on it in a day. For example, I can get a full set of CoF in 2 days ish because I have 4 chars to run it on, but I don’t really care to take the time to run each path 4 times a day right now.

The Bone Longbow is most likely just the PvP version of the Godskull Longbow.
I don’t know what the Steady Longbow is. I know that there is an option to have “steady” weapons in the Mists when you talk to the PvP Weapon Merchant. I don’t think those were legendary though.
Banana Stand has some really great advice. Also, keep in mind that you’re only lvl 15. You do’nt particularly need more than what you have. The higher level the zone, the more money you’re going to make. Running around queensdale for a few hours wont net you much money at all, but running around frostgorge or Cursed Shore especially for two hours can net you so much gold. I’d say to listen to Banana’s tips on what to salvage and sell, and just remember that you’re still a pretty low level. The money will pile up, unless you’re like me and constantly spending it on random stuff.
Quickness helps as well if it’s a tight situation. I do it very rarely, but if it’s really dire, I’ll drop timewarp to res people. I try to save this for fully downed people whenever that should happen(falling off the scaffolding in Colossus fractal).
I think that this is a silly idea. What you’re describing is someone who doesn’t know how to dodge or stay alive. Just because someone is a light character doesn’t mean they’re going to die all the time. If you know the dungeon, you should be fine. I’ve run TA on light, medium, and heavy. My favorite one was actually my mesmer, with all the condi removal and stealth, it was so easy.
This is a very closed minded view, but best of luck to you. I think you’re going to lose a lot of the benefits that a mesmer or necro can bring to your group, not to mention the combo fields that eles put everywhere.
Skipping trash is not an exploit. Skipping trash in path 3 for an inexperienced group took us from 4 hours to a little over an hour (It was our second time through and our builds weren’t quite perfect).
If you want tokens, you run as fast as you can. I think that PuGs can go either way. You may get an experienced person, or you’ll get a horrible person. It’s a gamble.
This is a tough one since the Lover jumped up in price a few days ago. If you don’t want to waste your money, I’d say keep saving. You can gamble in the forge, but there is a chance you’d spend all that gold and get nothing. Another reason to continue saving is just in case the Scavenger Hunt happens…ever. It could happen before you hit the 800g you need (or w/e it ends up being) and then you’ll have gold and your precursor. That’s what I’m hoping happens. I’m almost done with everything except the precursor for Frostfang, but I don’t think I’ll save up to buy it. I’ll just start working towards the stuff for the Moot.
This has happened to me before. We ended up with something like 2 necros, 3 warriors, a monk, and a few rangers all standing together around the final mortar. It took awhile, and a lot of deaths, but we eventually got through them all. It’s one of the few cases that we’ve actually used the mortars. The freeze one lets you chill them as they head towards your group, which makes for easier targeting and crowd control.
I agree that some dungeons punish people for thinking the armor is cool. Arah is a difficult dungeon and a lot of people want that armor. I still don’t think it should have a stat upgrade. Maybe the armor pieces should cost less tokens.
For awhile, not sure if they changed it or not, AC armor pieces were cheaper than all the other dungeons. My dungeon group told me it was because the dungeon was easier than others. That made 0 sense to me. If the dungeon is easier, why make the pieces cost less?!
The first time I ran Arah, we went in blind. Stupid on our part, but whatever. We spent 4 hours, 2 on Lupicus, and left with 3 tokens. It is a difficult dungeon to master, and the majority of paths take quite a long time, especially if you’re still getting a feel for it and don’t use any exploits. I will not be blinking through walls, so the 15 minute path is not for me.
I hope that they consider lowering the armor prices on dungeons that take a significant amount of time to complete. I could have a full set of CoF armor in 2 days with 4 hours of farming a day (4 80s to run all paths on), but doing that on Arah in two days is nearly impossible. I don’t even know if I could complete the paths on my 4 80s before reset, since you have to take a break in between for DR to disappear.
I enjoy TA. Remember to bring condition removal as just about everything there will poison or knock you down. Up/Up is probably one of the easiest paths in any dungeon that I’ve done. The most difficult parts are the looooooong runs through Knights, Cultists, and Blossoms.
I also don’t think Forward/Forward is that difficult aside from the long run(longest of any path) you need to make if you’re skipping some silver mobs. I haven’t had many problems with it the last few times I’ve tried it though. Condition removal, stun breakers, speed, and rallying off blossoms are your best friends.
Forward/Up is my least favorite path. Those bees and the spider tree, I hates them. The mesmer boss isn’t that bad if you have a group that knows to get out of chaos storms and watch for confusion. The most annoying part on that section is being a staff mesmer. People just run right out of your positive chaos storms
I will still take inexperienced players, but usually only guildies. I rarely run with PuGs as they terrify me, so I don’t run into some of these issues very regularly.
The best option I can give you, if you’re afraid of being left behind from your newness, is to get a guild. I had some painful runs with guildies when they were new, but we kept going with them and now they’re some of my favorite dungeon groups. Your guild mates are more likely to stand you then some random people from gw2lfg.
Although, I did do some PuGs the other day for HotW and we had someone come in, let us know they were knew, and we were all like…okay so what? I think they rarely downed. Just be smart.
people are saying to buy the rare pieces of armor… I just checked vendors and these are level 35 for AC… I thought ectos only dropped from equipment that was Level 70+ or when you mentioned the 30 token were you talking about the higher level dungeons and excluding the lower 6?
You are correct. Ignore the lower level rares. If you want, you can save up your low level dungeon tokens for exotic weapons to throw into the forge for a guaranteed exotic that might sell for a decent amount on the TP.

Like inbetween said, just relax. I’m sure they’ll get around to your legendaries at some point. For now, just buy up all the cheap precursors and reap the profits when they finally overhaul them :P I bought the Energizer(Moot precursor) for 50g a few weeks ago. Yesterday, it was sitting at 375g.
I honestly cannot wait to see what they do with the minstrel and meteorlogicus. They’re already pretty cool skinned weapons, they just need some great effects and they’ll be truly legendary.
Yet you are missing out why everyone is telling you the same response over and over again. This question, this thread has been brought up numerous times repeatedly (if you had used the search function) and a dev has already stated that skipping “is allowed”. The answer to your plea is there and you can argue with everyone you want, at the end of the day, that is the official response. If you do not like it, you can go spam their support ticket till they get tired of you.

I’ve seen that before when looking for HotW groups. So there’s obviously some sort of market for people who prefer not to skip.
I prefer to skip because at this point, I’ve done all the dungeons that I normally run, without skipping. I’ve experienced it. Tada. Now I like to run it as fast as possible to see if I can beat my best time

You don’t run Arah for the stats. You want Rabid or Berserker? Run TA or CoF.
You run Arah to say you ran it and to look like a bamf. You should not get better stats for running it. You get some sort of respect, and that’s enough. If Arah is not giving you enough reward, don’t run it.
In Guild Wars, you shouldn’t have to grind a dungeon to get better gear. You CAN grind a dungeon to get exotics if you want, but you don’t have to. Arah gear should not have better stats. That’s just ridiculous. Plus, you can run an Arah path in about half an hour if you know what you’re doing. :P
I used the 10x recipe twice. Once I got 10 clovers, the second time I got 32 powerful blood.
For the rest of mine, I did the 1 recipe.
One thing you need to remember is that it’s not a compounding thing. You do one recipe, you have a 66% chance to fail that recipe. You do the next one, you have a 66% chance to fail. It’s not like you do 3 recipes and you have a 33% chance to get one out of those 3 recipes. The chance is for that ONE attempt.
So if you attempted 100, there’s no guarantee that you’ll get 30 clovers. I hope this makes sense.
I had a friend do nine 10x attempts. He got 60 clovers. It’s just luck and RNG.
I bought two of these heavy material bags yesterday. It wasn’t worth it. In the first one I got a claw, venom sac, and blood. In the second, I got 2 dust, and blood. Where as, I farmed CS for 15 minutes, got 30 moldy bags and got about 10 t6 materials w/o spending laurels. I’ll be saving mine for the ascended gear.
Well, you’ll need 250 of each t6 material. The prices dropped last night, but they’re still spendy. Then you’ll need probably 2 stacks of ectos, one stack for the gift of fortune and possibly another one(maybe more, maybe less) for clovers.
You might need more karma, because clovers are all over the place, but karma is the easy part.
You’ll also need the precursor. I don’t know how much the dagger one is going for, but that could be 500g right there alone.
THEN, there are the icy runestones, that’s 100g no matter what. No bargaining there. PLUS the gifts and lodestones. I believe you need 2 kinds, probably molten and destroyer. The gift recipes will cost you 20g(10g each), not even counting the materials you’ll need for the Gift of Metal, which is the one I think you’ll need. That gift is sitting around 30g right now.
I know I’m forgetting things, but just those things will probably take you up to 1000g depending on the precursor price, the economy, and your luck.
Legendaries have a lot of hidden gold sinks that you don’t really notice until you’re halfway in. I’m over 50% done with Frostfang, but the price of the precursor just keeps going up up up. That’s another fun part of the whole legendary shpeal.
I’ve heard of people being kicked right at the end so that the party can invite their guildies in. That way the guildies get the experience and final loot, and they didn’t have to run the dungeon. It’s pretty shameful, but people will do it regardless.
There isn’t really much you can do to avoid it, and I don’t think there’s much Anet can do to help fix it. I believe that, in WoW, when you kicked someone you had to give a reason. Most of the time the reasons I saw were “jkgld” so I don’t think those were ever really used for much of anything, but oh well.
I’d say the best thing you can do to avoid this, is join a guild that runs dungeons. Run with people you know. That way, the risk of a PuG kicking you for apparently no reason is avoided.
Farm Cursed shore, CoF path 1 & 2, and do your clovers first!
Keep an eye on the trading post for material prices so that you know when a good time to buy t6 mats are. Buy orders are your friends here. I’d suggest not buying any until after you do your clovers though, or if you’re going to get into CS farming. I get so many t6 mats from running event chains down there.
Definitely wait until the end to focus on your precursor. I used to like throwing a few rares or exotics into the forge once a week, but at this point, I’m just focusing on everything else and hoping that the scavenger hunt shows up some day.

I’m hoping that after paid transfers happen, I can get my guild more into WvW. The constant coming and going of guilds sort of turned me off as I never really knew who to follow around. Maybe [HC] will follow [TDE] into going from all PvE to PvE + WvW.
I’m doing buy orders, like the previous poster. I don’t feel like conversions are that great, at least on the majority of them. Seems like totems might be where it’s at. I get a lot of large claws and fangs from running in circles around frostgorge. There is also, apparently, an underwater area to farm venom sacs and scales. I also run around in circles in orr for venom sacs.
If you haven’t finished your clovers, do that first. I got quite a few t6 mats from those. Now that I’ve finished those, running in circles while watching the TP is my routine.
I’ve never worried about farming these guys because they were so cheap. I’d recommend buying them up in case prices go up soon. Corrupted are my problem, but I’ve been getting them from farming as well as guildies finding them in fractals.
Also The Energizer for the mace? was listed at 30g last i looked.
Last I checked, it was nearing 100g. gw2db has it listed at 87g right now and I can’t check the spidy while working. Not sure when the last time you checked was.
Colin stated that the new open world revamp would allow the ability to get precursors. He now came out a day ago and said no that isnt the case and that maybe just maybe there may be some way to possible fit a little rng thing into the revamp but dont expect anything at all @ precursors. Basically status quo as far as precursors go and why they even said that in first place really ticks me off.
They dont know what they are doing anymore.
The scav hunt is 6+months out far on the backburner so dont expect any help in any way shape or form.
So flip the TP, grind your events, and pray to the all mighty RNG god any maybe just maybe you will get lucky. That is the reality or what I think they want you to do is BUY GEMS ->gold and buy your stuff.

Back on topic…I did a small mystic forge session with 32 axes and got 4 exotics which in the end, gave me a profit of about 2gold. On the other hand, awhile back I threw in 32 staves and recieved 0 exotics.
I noticed the spike too. Luckily I at least got ahold of the Energizer when someone stupidly listed it at 50g (The rest of the listings were 55g+). I made about 40g last weekend, but I was selling all my ectos and materials..which is going to punch me in the face later when I need a stack of ectos…I’d say just keep trying to save up. This price spike is probably due to the rumors flying around about the patch. My precursor for my first legendary, Frostfang, also went up quite a lot. It was sitting at 230g for awhile..and is now close to, if not above, 300g.
TL;DR – Just keep swimming. Keep doing what you’re doing. We’ll see what this patch has to offer. If you keep saving, eventually you should get there when it plateaus for a few days or when the price drops. OR if they do release a different way to get it, then hey. You have money for other stuffs.
Yep yep. Tailoring/Leatherworking. Just awhile ago I bought over 1000 silk scraps for just above a gold. If you make gloves, you only need silk. No leather. Just silk, silk thread, and some t5 materials. Don’t forget to put out buy orders on the t5 mats. It can make them a decent amount cheaper.
…When you get tokens you can buy armour. You should buy the rare helms wich is 30 tokens each. Then you either:
1. Salvage them for glob of ectoplasm (Not recommended because i am PRETTY sure they nerfed it. For me, i have salvaged 14 hoods in the last days, with only 2 globs)
OR
2. Mystic forge them. Buy 4 hoods, throw them in the mystic forge, and get another rare or maybe even exotic out of it. I did this, and on my first try, i got an exotic to 2 gold
Another way (not recomended unless you do dungeons ALOT) Buy the exotic greatsword. They cost 330 tokens per ( i think, its around 300-330 atleast) so buy 4 of them, and forge them. You will garanteed get an exotic greatsword back, and if you are lucky, you might get Dusk to 500+ gold or maybe dawn to 400 gold +

I keep seeing run dungeons for gold, but how does tokens translate into money?
If you run CoF (path 1 can take 10 minutes or less with an experienced group), you get tokens to buy gear. If you don’t need gear from that dungeon, you can buy the trash rares with them. Then salvage them for ectos and materials. The rares have to be at least 70 for ectos, I believe, and the CoF rares are 75.
I also make about a gold a path run in CoF, and that’s without Omnom Bars(Warrior so omnom pie is my life).
If you have a build that allows it, grab some omnom bars, potions of charr killing, and get a group together. Even with an unexperienced group, you can do it in 30 minutes tops and get a guaranteed 2 rares with the 60 tokens you’ll get.
I also buy t5 silk or leather (usually dirt cheap) and craft some rares to salvage for ectos. That one’s a bit more of a gamble and depends on the price of t5 materials. For awhile, they were below a silver a piece. Now that they’re back to 1s+ it’s a bit more of a riskier investment.

Back on topic, I think that buying a legendary is a little ridiculous, but to each their own. If you have been playing and have that much gold, then good on you. Go ahead and buy your legendary. Unfortunately, people assume everyone who has that much gold made it through the gem store or gold sellers. Some might have, but I know a lot of people who play the TP and somehow end up with a kitten ton of gold. I’m pretty jealous of them.
That said, I probably wont buy a legendary ever unless I magically win a non existant lottery in GW and am given 3k gold. I think it would cheapen it for me.
After working towards map completion and taking a break from crafting, I ended up with three stacks of iron.
On my other characters, I have a problem with outleveling crafting materials, but on my first one it wasn’t an issue.
You can always just go back to the level areas that have iron. It’s everywhere and you still get some sort of experience.
I hate WvW and haven’t even actively tried to do anything but my monthly and have tried the jumping puzzles. I have over 100 badges. This is the LEAST of my worries for legendaries. The LEAST.
I find my mesmer to be really useful in dungeons. Even just chaos storm over some allies to give them random boons is nice. Time Warp gets my award for best elite in the game too, since it basically doubles your parties damage for however long it’ll last.
I have dungeoned as an ele as well and find that I can do some great support through water, but also do a good amount of damage. Ele is probably my favorite in dungeons so far.
I wouldn’t really recommend Ranger,from personal experience. I enjoy it from a damage perspective, but I don’t feel like I do a lot of support aside from my pets giving people might and regeneration.
I’ve just started Warrior and I’ve heard that a Shout or Banner warrior can actually give some decent support while still dealing a ton of damage.
Thief, Engie, Guardian, and necro I haven’t dungeoned with yet. I do find that having thieves in a group is helpful for the shadow refuge rez. Engie’s also have a really nice elite that could possibly be useful in dungeons. The one where they drop all the health and turrets. One of my set dungeon buddies is a necro and he just melts things. My other necro buddy is a well necro and he has some nice condition removal support.
My super set dungeon partner(bf irl) is a guardian and I don’t think I’d have as great of a time in dungeons w/o a guardian. The other day I did a run with 3 guardians(2 AH and one low leveled), a mesmer, and my ele. It was beautiful.
Maybe try to revamp your guardian with a new build. My bf was getting really bored, then he switched to an Altruistic Healing build with a hammer and he’s having a blast.
I watched some videos of Arah Path 3 to just get an idea as to how to do it, and in at least one of them, the group would waypoint to The Vaults of Holiness WP right before Lupicus to clear a shorter path than the starting WP.
My group tried to do that, but couldn’t find any open passages to get back to the lupicus area. Just closed doors.
Is it supposed to be closed off now, or was that a bug?
I feel like there are a few things missing from a legendary, like completing the story. Maybe they can give you a piece towards a precursor if you complete story, dungeon master, and some other really time consuming achievement that I can’t think of. Unfortunately, with the way dungeons keep bugging out, that is probably not a great way to do it either. /shrug Just an idea.
I agree that a lot of the caster legendaries are very specific to certain classes. I feel bad for all the necros out there who want to be legendary and only have rainbows, harps, and globes to choose from. As a Mesmer and a rainbow lover, I happen to be in luck. I’m aiming for the bifrost first and then maybe a greatsword. I wanted a legendary scepter for my ele, but I just HATE how it looks. I’ll probably go for Immobulous and then the legendary dagger.
I do have to say that the legendary hammer doesn’t look a lot like an actual hammer…but it’s still mofo-ing awesome! I’m trying to convince my bf to get it on his guardian…but he wants Twilight.
Great Q. I was wondering the same thing about leveling. My only question, is if people are going to get annoyed if I’m a lvl 45 warrior wanting to get in on AC explorable. People seem to want lvl 80 for explorables so often.
Personally, I don’t mind. My guild runs with lower level characters all the time. That’s pretty much how I leveled my ele. As soon as she hit 35, I did AC Story. Then crafted up to 40 something. Since then, I’ve pretty much done AC exp and TA exp to hit max level. I’d suggest finding a good dungeoning guild that knows the paths and doesn’t mind teaching you the ropes.
Lupicus:
-Resetting at random times (I’ve only experienced this once, it was when he was supposed to change to the 2nd phase but he regenerated to full HP instead)
This happened to my group the other night while trying path 3. We had finally gotten through the majority of Phase 2, but three of the five of us died. He reset even though the last two players were still attacking him in combat range.
Also, I’m not sure if another path to Lupicus is supposed to open from the North waypoint, but the door remained closed the entire time.
Technically, you could achieve these IN GAME. You’d just have to buy gems with gold instead of real life money. Yeah yeah the exchange rate sucks, but those are your options. They’re not going to release them in a mini pack because people, like me, who spent money on those boxes and got them would be a little miffed.
I, personally, wouldn’t care, but other people would flip their kitten.
