I’d say cheapest is probably the trident, since the precursor is like 24g on the TP, but really, a trident legendary? The precursors for the torch and warhorn are about 80g on the tp, and those are actually sorta cool looking. The scepter is about 150g on the TP as well.
I think you’re going to be spending a ridiculous amount of gold anyways, so I’d aim for the one you really want to avoid any sort of regret, but that’s just everyone’s advice. Should probably just do whatever you want.

I’m going for the Moot on my guardian because the precursor was cheap, it’s so shiny, and I love Mace. I’d say run around and try out ALL the weapons on your characters. Find the one you love the most and work towards it. You could even start working on the Gift of Fortune and Mastery while choosing. Those are interchangeable.
The precursor can be the hardest part, so it’s something to keep in mind if you’re waffling over something like the greatsword or the shield.

I read the whole thread and can’t believe I didn’t see this one! But maybe I just missed it…when you have to pick a race to help out in your order missions, you can choose skritt. You have to stop them from gathering egg things and a skritt runs by you saying “Gather ALL THE THINGS!” It was one of my favorite moments in game and I totally fell in love with the skritt immediately. So. Cute.

I’m on Ehmry which tends to be very PST, but we definitely have some very active EST guilds as well. The time you listed is 11am-3pm server time. I’m usually surprised at the amount of people we have on at those times. My guild has an Aussie and Kiwi who are weirdly active during that time as well.
I’ll probably get burned at the stake, but maybe check Maguuma. They have a fairly large population, so I’d imagine they have people on at all times.

I needed it the other day and guested to Tarnished Coast. It was open there. Might check them as they seem to have most temples open whenever I check.

I’m with Beorn. I’m leveling my second guardian and it’s really fun. I routinely end up underleveled in an area and find myself able to take on groups of monsters up to 3 or 4 levels higher than myself. They’re very versatile, dungeon groups love you, and awesome for soloing.

Or you can try warrior. Like a guardian, minus the buffs plus more health. Also has higher DPS. I don’t find it as fun as Guardian because I love being a bit more helpful to groups and warriors tend to only bring their DPS and rez banner. Guardians have a lot of buffs.

BUT. if you’re going solo, you don’t care about that stuff. I also found I was able to survive killing mobs higher leveled than me while on my warrior.

Just as a closing note, I took my first guardian and 100%ed Malchors Leap, which is a 75-80 zone, while she was lvl 72. Didn’t even get to lvl 75 out of it. /shrug

Yeah I guess, its kind of a bummer though, was all excited to make this and start farming the mats but looks impossible to do that…Somebody must be farming them since theres a bunch on TP….

I did the same thing with corrupted lodestones. I was like, YES. I will go out there and I will get these myself! I farmed for about 5 hours total and got 1 single lodestone. It was quite a bummer. I feel your pain. I also have a friend going for exactly what you’re going for. He farmed polar bears to get some of his. I got one the other day from a skelk in Southsun. Might try there. I spent a half hour killing karka and skelks and left with 1 t6 blood and 1 fang. Good luck! Don’t get discouraged…you’ll get there some day.

From what I’ve seen, I would suggest trying a guardian. Warrior is more DPS oriented and a little easier to play, but if you enjoyed playing healer and tank, then Guardian is more your play style.
Some people hate the Guardian’s ranged options, basically only scepter, but it can be pretty powerful. I enjoy it. The staff is not really super ranged and is definitely more support.

My first char in beta and during the headstart was a Ranger. I got bored around lvl 50 and switched to Mesmer. Mesmer is an incredibly fun and versatile class, but very difficult to understand right off the bat.
Guardian and Warrior are a little bit more simple and easier on a new person. You have a lot of things to help keep you alive and quite a few different playstyles to experiement with. They are also some of the most popular classes in dungeon running, so it wouldn’t be tough to get into a group.

I’ve also played elementalist and their only real melee option is double dagger. You really have to know what you’re doing with that one because, as an ele, you are super squishy. Plus, you have all of the elements to switch between. It’s fun, imo, but also quite a learning curve. If you’re up to the challenge, they are INCREDIBLY fun, but again, steeeeeep learning curve.

A few points made previously, you do have 5 character slots. If you get to lvl 50 and realize you’re bored, just start a new character slot. Also, the mists will autoscale you up to lvl 80 and give you all the skills and trait points. It’s a fun area to experiment with classes and try out some builds you find online.
I took my engie (still a baby lvl 20) into the mists and now I just want to get her to 80 and hit everything with a wrench! (toolkit is AMAZING)

I make most of my money in dungeons. Farming Orr is a decent place to get some gold, but not as fun as dungeons, imo. Like Ilithis said, CoF is super farmed and you can make about a gold in 10 minutes. TA Up Fwd/Fwd are pretty fast and net you some nice gold, Fwd/Up is a bit more difficult, but can be done. SE path 3 is super easy and i’ve heard path 1 is also simple.
HotW path 1 is simple and you can usually find some decent groups for it. I’d stay away from path 2 and 3 though, the underwater bosses can really add time to the run.
gw2lfg is going to be your gold making friend. Also, with the higher level dungeons, like CoF and HotW, you can use the tokens you get to buy the rare heavy helms (30 tokens a piece) and salvage them for ectos. Sell the ectos you get and you’ll get some extra cash.

Ehmry Bay events are almost undoable right now with the overflow situation. You can’t even just level in Wayfarer anymore without getting put in an overflow. I had a guildie attempting to do events yesterday from about 11am server time to 11pm server time and she missed almost every single one due to overflow. I tried to do the Shatterer yesterday and was put in an overflow. I thought I’d just wait it out for him to spawn there, but as soon as Ehmry killed him, the status in the top corner changed from preparing to fight Kralks minions to, The Shatterer has been killed!
I’d really appreciate it if they’d just make chests once a day per char, regardless of server. Some people keep calling for guesting to be removed entirely, but that seems rash and ridiculous.

People have said it before, but the karma vendors in Orr have PVT gear as well. So as you amass tokens from AC/SE/HotW you should get karma as well. I’d suggest buying helm, gloves, boots, and possibly shoulders with tokens and using karma for chest and pants. All karma pieces are the same price, but token pieces vary. Pants and Chest pieces are the most expensive, at around 300 tokens each. This way, you can maximize whatever you have to spend.

This is pretty much how I level my alts from 35 to 55 at least. One run of AC can get you almost an entire level, about a gold, and 66ish tokens. I’ve been able to gear out a few of my alts in AC because of this.
Most PuGs will hate you, and I understate that. They will most likely kick you on site.

When I started running AC on my guardian at lvl 35, I was outlasting lvl 80s. You have to play smarter when you’re on a lower level. If you don’t think you can dodge, block, and kite when necessary, I’d suggest leveling with some map completion to learn your class a bit better.

Also, get a dungeon guild, or a guild with some friends. My guild will always take a sub80 on any dungeon that allows it. PuGs probably wont, unless you find a group that states they are accepting sub 80s. I happened across a few nice PuGs, but I always asked if it was okay for me to be sub80.

Personally, I prefer leveling in dungeons because it really causes you to learn your class. Good luck.

I have never kicked someone for being a ranger, but as someone who’s first character was a ranger, I can see why a different class would be preferred. I feel very useless to the group when I need to use my ranger. With my guardian, I bring buffs. With my mesmer, I have quickness and such. With my warrior, I do heavy DPS as well as a few buffs. With my ele, I have some healing and group condi removal. With my ranger? My pet can give you might…is that cool?

That said, I did run Arah path 4 before the patch. We killed Simin with 2 rangers, 2 warriors (1 support spec), and 1 mesmer. The rangers were slightly useless except for dps on simin, due to the sparks agroing their pets, but hey. Still did it with rangers.

I bet a ranger could do it easy… it just might take a bit longer. Sword\dagger and short bow, and go full condi and evasion, and I bet it could be done. I may just have to try it myself… but I imagine people who say I am using dev stuff and not being fair.

I was just telling my friend who has FIVE RANGERS that I expected him to upload me a video of him soloing lupicus by end of day. With this encouragement, I’ll expect it by end of work day.

I was just talking to my guildies about that. I almost bought the precursor, but I fight underwater basically never, so it wouldn’t really be worth it. It’s so amazing looking, with all the snakes/eels moving around and the water flowing through the center. So great.

Each map has a set number of Ori nodes that should always be there. Frostgorge has 2, Malchor’s and Cursed Shore have 5 each, and I think Southsun has 3? Not sure, I never go there.
They will always be in the same place until there is a server reset, then they will change places.

You have a bad case of the RNG woes. I opened about 12 bags yesterday and 4 t6 materials.

You should craft level an alt with that gold so you can run CoF with more characters to make MOAR monies! I have 5 80s to run CoF on…

So are you talking about the fractal back piece skins? You think you should be able to get these outside of the dungeon they are themed from? So should I be able to get Arah or CoE gear if I don’t do those dungeons?

The main problem here is he was farming a respawnig trash mob. That’s it. Those don’t drop loot anywhere. Story missions, dungeons, fractals. They don’t drop anywhere and IMO they shouldn’t.

Also, you don’t have to do a full fractal run. You could attempt to find a group just for something like Ascalon which will take you like 20 minutes tops.

I also don’t do much digital stuff, so this was a challenge, especially with a mouse.

I drew this as a valentine’s day present to my boyfriend and have waffled over posting it here, but though I might as well. His main is an asura guardian and mine is an alt. There are a few problems, such as stumpy Twilight and tiny tiny legs on my asura, buuuuut he didn’t care so I haven’t fixed it yet. I also haven’t gotten around to shading the armor.

I think your definition of “everything” is a little squeued. Currently, I’ve leveld 5 characters to 80 and have started leveling a second guardian. I’ve run almost every dungeon path (lacking SE 1,2 and all of CoE), as well as finished map completion once and have 50% on two other chars. I have accumulated a total of 38 laurels and am about 80% through a legendary. I have not done everything and still find hours of content a day, but it seems I have definitely done a lot more than you.

Basically, you’ve done everything you are interested in. I’m not exactly sure what the point of this post is. I’d say you should create another character or explore some more maps, but I don’t think that’s what you’re looking for. If you enjoyed the story, then definitely create the story because you only experienced one of quite a few story archs. At least consider getting a new char to the level 30 story and run through a different Order.

Plus, you picked the worst dungeon to get tokens in. CM is one of the most annoying dungeons I’ve ever run. I have only accumulated 530 tokens. Just enough to get my gift of nobility.

Saying that making precursors easier to attain would make legendaries super common seems a little over the top. I’ve had my precursor, The Energizer, since early December and I still don’t have my legendary. The price and amount of t6 materials and 100 icy runestones is a tough hump to get over for some people, especially alt-a-holics like myself. I’m not a casual player, I have 5 80s, but I have been unable to dedicate my 5+ hours a night to just farming.

I would prefer to see the second choice, making explorable dungeons level appropriate. AC exp was tough with a group of all lvl 35s. Not impossible, but tough. And i’m talking lvl 35s not in rares here, because really, who wants to spend the money on lvl 35 rares at this point? Not most of the player base.

If they ARE going to gear most of the explorable modes towards 80s, I’d like to see Story Modes become more rewarding for lower level characters. AC story is not super difficult with a group of 30-40s, not super easy, but not impossible. You still get a decent amount of xp, but you only get that really nice gear from one run. Technically, about 10 runs of AC could get you 10 levels..sorta. Probably more like 7, but w/e. So maybe you get a rare piece your level every run? Like first time you get the helm, second time you get some shoulders, and so on. That way, you don’t have to run AC exp to get the lvl 35 rares with tokens, which I personally think is a stupid idea anyways. By the time you have the tokens to get a full set, you’re already like lvl 40.

I hope that we can all figure out this new AC path so that it’s not as impossible for low levels as it seems right now. I loved taking guildies through AC because it taught you mechanics, like dodging and coordination, which really help in the rest of the dungeons. I had a hard time with a guildie in Arah, so I ran a bunch of AC with him to get his dodging up for Lupicus. No problems since then. I don’t want to have to start taking people through TA instead, no one ever wants to go to TA.

Storm already did jump. Before the January update that added more to legendaries, Storm was 55g. Now it’s 155-165g.

Which was disappointing to me… my casual self had just gotten to about 45g (so close!) when the price jumped. GG. Hopefully guild missions will make precursor prices drop.

Same thing ALMOST happened to me with the Energizer. They had been sitting at 50g for awhile, then when I hit 45g, they jumped up to 55g, then someone stupidly listed one 5g below and a guildie bought it for me until I could get that last bit to pay them back.

I decided against picking up Storm. I wont be making it for quite awhile, so maybe by then the prices will have gone down or there will be a different way to obtain them.

I enjoy watching the story mode videos. The only problem I run into are people who like to watch them repeatedly. If we’ve run TA Up about 10 times, you’d think they’d have gotten the jist of the story.
I would like to rewatch all those cutscenes, so if you need another person for TA story, feel free to message me in game. :P
Also, if you haven’t, definitely do SE story mode. That gave me all the feels.

Back on topic, it is annoying. The story in most of this game is mediocre, at best, and the best of it seems to be in dungeons. The fact that people always want to skip it is bothersome, but i understand it at the same time. A lot of people have the speed run mentality, get in and get out as soon as you can so you can do something actually rewarding, like explorable.

I’m sure it’ll happen eventually. For now, enjoy that the precursors haven’t skyrocketed..at least to my knowledge. Considering selling everything to buy Storm just in case it does get updated soon and the precursor price jumps up like the Energizer did.

Hey all! I’ve been surfing the forums and see a lot of GS, Hammer, and Scepter builds, but I haven’t stumbled across a mace build yet.

I’m working towards the Moot, originally for my warrior but Mace is a lot more useful as a mainhand guardian weapon than sometimes offhand/usually in bag warrior weapon.

I’ve heard it’s great for doing some support, and that’s definitely what i’m interested in, unless there is a decent dps option with it. Currently, I’m running around queensdale on my lvl 5 just learning the mace/shield combo. I have another lvl 75 guardian, but they’re going on the backburner as they are asura and weapons are so tiny on them.

I’ll be theorycrafting all day, so any advice or pointers to builds would be very welcome.

I don’t think you can pick them in character creation. I believe they’re only through the Hair Style kit. I also think that it’s only for a limited time. The colors will last forever if you don’t change them, but I don’t think you’ll have the option to choose them forever.

My guild leader doesn’t “own” me. There is plenty of content for solo players, you have the ENTIRE world, sPvP, and some WvW stuff you can do. This is a MMO (massively multiplayer online). It’s not really meant to be played solo, but Anet is nice and gave you a lot of options for that.
You can also take part in these guild missions, you just can’t choose when, where, or what kind. You just have to stumble across a guild that is announcing them or it’s in process.

Clearly not listening to the population again. How about you read some a suggestion topics aimed at this. Make it a guild perk only achievable in wvw, remove the 100g from it so pve players cannot buy it

If they remove it and make it impossible for PvE people to buy, they’ll need to implement something like larger groups for events outside of WvW. My guild uses our commander for large guild events in the open world, not just WvW stuff. Otherwise, people get lost.

I’d suggest getting into a dungeon guild, first off. They’ll give you tips and such.
On my warrior, I usually wear a mix of zerker/knight’s gear with dual axes and axe/mace or rifle. I also carry a GS around, just in case I just need heavy damage output.
I carry around a set of soldier gear for when I’m feeling lazier and don’t want to have to worry about getting sneezed on. For my utilities, I tend to run “Shake it off”, “For Great Justice”, and either “On My Mark!” or “Endure Pain” depending on the encounter. I am not a fan of banners.

Most dungeons are very tank n spank. I’d suggest maybe starting with AC or CoF as they’re fairly simple and quick. TA is also quick and fun for some people. It has heavy conditions though, so it can be tough if you’re running a zerker build.
I didn’t run many dungeons in WoW, but I feel like they’re fairly different. Warriors don’t really “tank” as far as I can tell. We just stand in the way of the squishier classes and eat all the boons that our guardian besties give us. They’re delicious.
Also, avoid a 5 signet build. A lot of groups will immediately kick you if they see that.
I can’t think of my traits off hand, since I’m not at a computer that i can access them with, but it’s a variation on strife’s axe/axe build. He put it up on youtube.
Hope this made some sort of sense haha.

Did this last night with a guild group on TS. We had two rangers, two warriors(1 zerker and one more support), and a guardian. When we got to Simin we didn’t have the dps, so guardian switched to mesmer, and got it first try when we used TW. I was sort of surprised. Expected to spend a lot more time there, especially with two rangers in the group.

I’ve never used hammer on my warrior because i’ve always heard about how useless it is, but I’m a fan of playing how you want to play. For the most part, you should be fine. Very rarely am I in AC thinking, “crap! We just don’t have the dps for kohler!!!! Why is the warrior using a hammer?!” I would advise you to always carry a GS around though, even just a rare one, or run with a higher dmg output weapon on your second set. I prefer Axe/Axe or Axe/Mace, but GS is good if you like that playstyle. I hate being rooted for the high damage skill. 25k crit is nice, but I constantly step out of it. I’m a crazy strafer.
Don’t get upset though, when a CoF or Arah p4 wont take you. That’s why I say to have a GS or Axe in your bag. Sometimes, you just have to do the damage.
My guild does have a support warrior, which is nice since we seem to be lacking guardians at the moment. If you have a guardian, you don’t really need a support warrior. So, do what your party needs and/or what you want to do, but expect to run into a few elitists who aren’t afraid to kick or yell at you for not being a zerker.

I’ve bought a bloodstone shard and finished all my clovers as well as making a bunch of cores into lodestones. I still have at least 50 sp’s on all my 80s(4). My main has about 80 sp’s. Skillpoints are not hard to come by. Just go speed through a few maps, don’t even have to complete them, just run across small zones. Or heck, complete an orr map. Skillpoints GALORE.

As many people have said, I’d rather have a lvl 38 that knows how to dodge and get through the dungeon than a lvl 80 who THINKS they know how, but can’t. Just because you’re level 80 does not mean you don’t need to dodge kohler.
I level my low levels through dungeons, but I’m in a guild that is cool with that. I’ll take sub 80s in any of my dungeon runs, even if they’re a PuG. I don’t like to judge them prior to seeing if they actually are skilled. I have four 80s, but like to run my guardian through AC regularly. I usually end up outlasting a lot of the 80s. Recently, I was the one having to kite kohler around while the necro ressed the rest of the 80s because they seemed to forget how to dodge. v.v

How anyone could thinking pulling is an exploit astounds me. Seems a pretty obvious mechanic.

I think that people are terrified of exploits at this point. I was running CM path 2 yesterday with some guildies and during Bridgette we were using line of sight to pull her out of retaliation. My guildmate was like, is this a mechanic or an exploit????

I’m not sure what you were trying to get at here…but okay. I’m not sure what CoE 3 in 1 is, but you probably don’t want to be advertising that you do it on the forums. Sounds like an exploit, sort of like the HotW path 3,2.

I’m sorry you got kicked, OP, but as you can see by this thread, there are a lot of people who hate when you switch to an alt. Personally, I don’t care. I never switch to an alt, i just run the dungeon on that char, but I have guildies who like to switch at the end. I’d say, get a good dungeon running guild and make friends. I hate PuGs. I really hate them. I only use them when I’m desperate, and even then, i’ll put off the run for a few hours if it means I can run with guildies. You have no vocal coordination with PuGs and a lot of the times you end up with elitist kittens or players who can’t stay alive.

TL;DR: Find a guild and run with them or make 100% sure that the group is okay with you leaving. It only takes one person to initiate the kick and another person not paying attention to second it.

I don’t think I’ve ever had a group that took over 15 minutes unless we were having a super hard fail or a very long afk. We recently ran two mesmers, two eles, and a ranger. It was tough, but didn’t take us long. I think I’ve only ran a four warrior group once or twice, so I’m fairly used to running with random classes. The only time I care about those five minutes are when they’ll make the dungeon end after reset.

I have about 900 hours across all characters since August and I started seriously going for my legendary in December. I’m over halfway done and am at the point where I just need gold gold gold. I play about 2-5 hours on a normal day and can make a decent amount of money so long as I don’t stand around. I’ve heard of people getting them in as little as 300 hours, but they’re usually part of a guild that farms legendaries. I’d say I agree with most posters in that, if you’re semi hardcore, it’ll take between 400 and 600 hours. Mine might take less, but I was lucky and gifted with a precursor.

Lots of good tips in this forum. My guild mates are always complaining about how busy pen/shelt is. We’ll have to guest to a lower pop server now. Sounds much nicer.

Ehmry is full of legendaries. We have guilds that are just legendary farmers and sellers. LA’s afk ledge is full of people showing off their psuedo and actual legendaries. I’ve seen a few people with dual incinerators and bolts. It’s pretty crazy, but I don’t mind. I like looking at them and still plan to go for all the legendaries I want.

I’m getting close to finishing my first, The Moot. After that, I’d like to make Frostfang, the Bifrost, The Dreamer, and Sunrise, but we’ll see. I seem to want all the expensive ones. I think Quip would be fun on my engineer, but the precursor for that shot waaaaay up. I don’t know if I’ll ever get all of these, but having them as a someday maybe goal keeps me playing. I’ll be standing around bored thinking about logging off, then realize I could be farming Orr for some materials.

Wish I had seen this yesterday. Is it a weekly thing?

I don’t really care if there are legendaries everywhere. They’re pretty and I like to look at them, so it’s nice to see someone standing around with one. I’ll still continue to go for the ones I want (The Moot and Frostfang) because I want them and like how they look. I don’t really care if anyone else has them. I just want to go stand in Gendarran and watch Frostfang breathe frost.
I feel as though calling them “Legendary” is a bit misleading. There’s nothing really legendary about getting them. You have to have a lot of gold (or a lot of patience to farm) and a lot of luck. You have to have some sort of skills to get through the dungeons, be it playing skills or people skills to get someone to carry you through. You also have to be able to jump, or have a mesmer friend who can jump.
The fact that you can buy them sort of cheapens it, in my eyes, but then again, having’ 2k gold without buying it off a gold seller? That is pretty ridiculous. I do know a few people who just play the TP and have multiple legendaries. I’m not sure if they actually know how or could go out and play the game though.

TLDR: Who cares if there are a million legendaries? Anyone who wants one, should be able to get one in the long run..if they work for it. Anyone who wants to save up all the karma, gold, and badges should be able to get a legendary.
