This fight is not “Hard” just “Cheesy”. it boils down to 2 things,
“How is your computer/isp?”
and
“do you run a bunker / passive healing build?”
If you have answered: “bad!” and " No!" save yourself some time, this fight will be a gold sink
Shortbow : 1 wpn skill un nerfed /unchanged / unaltered (shadow shot #5)
sword and dagger: 1 wpn skill un nerfed / unchanged / unaltered. (autoattack #1)
i could go on, but you should have the point by now, Its people like you who have reduced this class to spam. continue to alt tab + post anti thieve threads, its worked wonders for the last 2 years. why stop now?
Thanks for the replies. Sizer is good for sure, and could make sword/no OH look good. I’m trying to make sense of it for the common thief like me.
So if boon steal is that effective, does 3 skill get the most use? For the evade and boon steal?
No, you only need LS and Steal, but need to trait for Bountiful Theft.
Let’s say I saw a Guardian with 12 stacks of Might running with his Warrior buddy with also 12 stacks of Might. What I do is, use Flanking Strike out somewhere — no target is preferred.
Then I pre-cast Larcenous Strike -> Steal from the Guardian -> Switch target to Warrior -> Flanking Strike -> Larcenous Strike -> dodge roll = Easy 25 stacks of Might.

Minor clarification. Bountiful Theft will steal Aegis from the Guardian first, so that you can steal the Might stacks with Larcenous Strike.I thought boon stealing only steals one stack of it? Please clarify this for me
Larcenous strike will take Full stacks (so if a warrior has 25 stacks of might you will take them all)
Bountiful theft on the other hand will only give you 1 stack of might. (instead of all 25)

On another note healing is probably part of the problem Mcfribble. but it’s to late to change, say they linked Shadow rejuvenation, regen or healing to the revealed buff we wouldn’t hear so many complaints. but they would have to buff to compensate
They would have to double the regen rates, or perhaps how the thieves scales healing Rework cleanses probably damage, ect. That’s a lot of work. and while this Might work in Wvw. in Spvp the maps are clustered, Aoe is prevalent. would this even work there?

And regarding the healing…..it’s only really good when you’re specced into Shadow Rejuvenation. Without it it barely heals at all.
Think hes referring to the dark field. its a great heal when paired with Som and Ds.

I don’t think the mechanics of Gw2 would allow that version of dancing dagger.
If this skill Crits on the first strike, it will continue to crit for the 2nd,3rd and 4th hit.

quiet you, your just a bad ranger with no stealth
you can hit multiple targets with tripwire (i figured they all worked like tripwire), the problem is they all have to be in the box when you cast it, making them situational. (for instance: tripwire is good for interrupting multiple rezers, and zergballs, Tripwire + infiltrators signet will give you a knockdown on port)
the mechanics are there. they just need to add some defensive utility with them.
Id rather see them re-add immune to fear on dagger storm stability. being chain feared out of an elite is annoying. other then that we don’t need more stability, we have plenty of shadow steps.
They need to add a trait
“transfer 1 damaging conidtion from player to Placed trap”. so say your effected by psn, and you place tripwire , it would read: knock down and psns enemy.
master trapper: cd 20% , traps pulse for 1-3 seconds on activation.
i know anet doesn’t want other utilities to have clears/breakers but it really is limiting thieves diversity. like bon said we pretty much have to run certain utilities.

Maybe if players stopped complaining about thieves, arenanet’s papers would start showing that thieves aren’t as much of a problem. Then thieves would actually start getting nice things and the whole profession wouldn’t be forced to play d/d to be completely viable. Afterwards you will start seeing less permastealth and backstabs because everything thieves have complained about in regards to their profession finally gets fixed.
At least you came to the forums in a rational fashion.

It’s not that every thieve wants to run the same utilities/traits/gear . its because where being forced to. Thieve diversity has taken a huge plummet since launch. (of course this happens naturally over time, but not this quick)
The problem is 2 things imo, When anet “balances” things they pick one wpn set to buff and nerf the rest. this forces thieves out of that set and into the “new” one. this is the main reason your seeing a high majority of thief running d/d , d/p.
The other reason is people calling for nerfs on specific abilities, so lets say they did nerf all the teleports, are you prepared to fight NOTHING except perma stealth users?

Thieve could stealth and walk in gwalchgn. a few months ago they extended the blocker on the wall.
as for fighting s/p op, don’t even bother taken the time to learn to fight them.
while you might see a few s/p users around latelty, in a week or 2 they will realize that s/p wasn’t actually buffed (was a revert) and since the change to #2 there sadly worst/no better then what they where.

I sometimes wish they would make a war4 rts, then i remember its probably a good thing they haven’t
a few common tips for S.Wire:
1. you can pull people off siege.
2. i find if you stop moving before using wire it works more often.
3. Returning and using S wire is glitched, it will put it on cd. (unless your facing them)
4. S.wire is a great tool for pulling players ressing. and more importantly it makes fighting mark necros a joke.
5. S.Wire + tripwire makes fighting thieves a walk in the park.
and finally a tip for tripwire. Cast trip wire, instantly hit infiltrators signet, you will port to the enemy player and drop T. wire, its to fast to dodge, enjoy
Remove IS/SR cooldown. decrease initiative cost of infiltrators strike to 2 increase initiative cost of return to 4. (from 5 initiative total to 6)
(this would make it harder to use for stomp, but keep the synergy of Sword 2)

it is 5 initiative 3 for teleport and 2 for the return. there is no way to return without using infiltrators strike first.
As for “slotting stun breakers” what s/d thief doesn’t have shadow step/infiltrators signet set.. the only build that wouldn’t is s/d blind spam. (which uses stealth and shadow arts)

The thing is though the apart from the cast time on sword the patch wasn’t so bad. Unfortunately sword thief players are in the minority as it take more skill using S/X specs than other existing thief build. So majority of thief players won’t even care about this nerf.

A.net made it out like every thief playing in pvp was a s/d thief, for the last week ive been doing pvp can you guess how many other s/d thiefs i ran into….. 1 (2 if you count myself)
I keep seeing this infiltrators strike had this nerf coming. Do people not realize the the return range is 900, clearly there is no range wpn in the game that will reach that far..

1. return does in fact have a counter. since its hard to figure out here we go. interrupt any thief skill after they infiltrators strike this will clear there return point.
2. Other classes can in fact pre load skills and teleport take sanctuary + judges intervention for instances.
3. Our initiative is are Cool Down , since we can return at best 3 times then we are left with auto attack, a warrior was quite capable of catching a thief even When Shadow return had a Stun Breaker on it.

Well this added cooldown to shadow return alters S/d play-style the last time they did this was with the 4sec reveal (which got swapped back because it changed the way the thief played) wonder how long we have to wait this time.
please make it quick this time anet my thief is kinda glassy he can’t tank much dust.
I think a lot of times people forget this is a game, drama in a game is pointless. We all play it to have a good time and relieve stress. No reason to bash on one another every chance we get :p

I don’t think this is all of them. What about Unload, Repeater. They got nerfed. in (pre-sale?) Are you not counting pre-sale nerfs?
Also you should add some of the broad nerfs, (Haste, Vigor [next patch] They nerfed Unload, Repeater and Pistol whip because it had to much synergy with haste.

this is mostly personal opinion take it or leave it, it matters little in the long run.
Critical Strike X – Critical Haste. Increase trigger chance to 25%.
When haste was at 100% this trait worked well with unload/repeater/pistolwhip.
a 2 second haste at 50 IAS is still to slow. and since it procs more you will lose even more evade frames on FS/sb#3/dodge roll.
Shadow Return on Sword. Renamed to Infiltrator’s return. Added a 1/4s cast time.
You should split this skill, sure you can shadowstep through walls in PVP But in wvw this thing misfires over rocks,steps, slight inclines. you are making it out like 1/4 a second is no big deal, in this condition meta that is a very long time. that is also 1/4 seconds i can’t dodge making melee have a higher chance of tagging/killing me and retreating from a zerg near impossible. a bad infiltrators strike will get you killed with an instant return this is just overkill.
Critical Strikes VI – Practiced Tolerance. Increased conversion from 5% to 7%.
2% increase there pulling out all the stops now. I’ll take it though, any extra life will help a little.
Deadly Arts VI – Sundering Strikes. Increased the trigger chance from 50%. Remove ICD. Decrease Vulnerability duration to 6s.
this might be good for pvp. for wvw most people are going to stick with mug as it does dmg and gives you life.
Pistol Whip. Reduced the after cast on the first half of this skill by .25 seconds.
The whole animation is simply to slow. this was the main reason haste + PW was so popular. (plus it looked sweet)
Since you drastically reduced the damage because of that combo, i find myself asking will you ever bump it back up again? personally i would rather 100% haste and pw take another direct dmg nerf.but unfortunately haste is tied to other classes.
Acrobatics IV – Assassin’s Retreat. Increased swiftness duration to 20s.
Does anyone use this is pvp? with the maps being as small as they are, and in wvw we have this thing called seaweed. yes you can get a huge uptime by stacking both, (and using cluster shot) but its kind of pointless with all the access to swiftness we already have (Steal, dodge roll, ect)
i might comment about the init/vigor changes after i see them first hand….

I guess you’ve figured out you aren’t the cream of the crop on GoM by now, but I figured I’d reiterate it. L2p. Being able to throw siege on someone dead doesn’t mean you’re good.
But, I give you an A for effort for throwing siege after it takes 15 of you to wipe 5 people. Best of luck in your future endeavors. And just remember, I have more siege than you for every time I see you guys dead.

On a serious note, that’s a great idea, As much as i hate to admit it WvW is dieing in the lower tiers. Its not that its any less fun to play, its just the fact that there is a decrease in players, we are starting to see more and more players transfer away because they can’t find a fight.
If this continues for another year we will end up with A: full servers in gold league only or B: 1 super server per league. Either option is depressing.

Just falling of the map won’t get you banned, now targetting someone while your down there probably will. (ive been off the map 100’s of times since pre-sale and im still here. mind you i’ve never tried to use it to my advantage.

That Is a glitch caused by lag (client and server) while using a Travel ability (ride the lightning, shadow steps and leaps). I highly doubt this guy is a “Moronic teen” if he was he would of swam over to bay and solo capped it….
On another note though, i think the bloodlust points where suppose to be multi layered at one point. there are steps and rooms under that point.
