I’m not going to write a list of everything you said, but i do have a problem with your reasoning behind Flanking strikes/Trickster/

flanking strike needs fury. This is for synergy with No Quarter, and since flanking strikes and thrill are in the same line/spot, it makes sense that it gives fury, (you also forgot to mention that Trickster works on the trait Flanking strikes bringing the CD from 60seconds to (…47??) these work good with sword builds and as swords do less damage then dagger offhand it’s a good method to make up some of your lost dps through the use of Haste + Fury + No quarter(though i will admit you are still probably better off with Thirll + bount) but 3+ years of the same trait, a little variety is good.

Withdraw and Roll for initiative should remove Burning..
Stop drop and roll! as we where all taught as kids ":D

@ Sagat: I think most people assume it’s going to be a two handed weapon simply because it would take less work then say s/s d/s p/s ect.

My point on shortbow was that cluster shot started at 1200 range and was nerfed to 900.
that was my reasoning behind me stating arena net doesn’t want us to have a 1200 range wpn, (It’s an assumption like most of the other posts here)

I believe the thief will be last due to the massive amount of QQ we are going to see. I would rather them be next, so we (the thief community) can put in some input.

Either way staff/Rifle/Torch/Gs/Fist wpns it’s all good, At least we had a topic to discuss for the past few mnts, this forum was getting pretty stale.

Just keep charging middle till you lose, not only is it hilarious (the team rage) but it’s pretty effective.When you can’t handle the team rage anymore just state:

“Pardon me sirs! it is entirely possible to kill 100 player’s in 15 mins, i am winning this game for us. If it wasn’t so arena net would of increased the points per kill from 5 to a higher number, Also you have been reported for verbal abuse.

I really don’t know why the thief board is getting so worked up over this topic..

First off, the thief will be the last one revealed.
secondly we will be lucky to get a beta with it. ( chance are we will get 1 beta weekend while the rest will have multiple ones)
thirdly, there is more evidence (though not concrete, towards the staff wpn set)
4th no matter what we get, It’s going to be complained about by the keyboard turners and they (arena net) will nerf it before it goes live, like the recent changes to our traitlines (remember teef’s have to much durge rolls?)

I know we ain’t getting a rifle, and if we do, it will be medium range. Why you ask?
well its simple, look at shortbow nerfs, then look at the range on pistols. you are also not accounting for (Roll for initiative, Withdraw, shadow step, shadow trap, Cal traps, which would make a thief with a rifle a kiting genius. extremly op. not to mention the fact that arena net already stated thief rifle is unlikely (a thread near launch)

I would take a grea tsword over both a rifle and a staff, though staff would be my second choice..

Leaps my good man, staff could give us access to that, which we lack now.

Either way whatever we get is probably going to be sub par, this is arena net where talking about. no one believed me when i stated the trait changes where going to be a nerf overall so by all means don’t belive me now

While every profession does have access to it it still gives an advanatage towards bruiser/bunker comps, which already have an advantage due to the conquest game mode. a squishy mesmer is still squishy with double the life. now compare that to say a guardian who has higher base defense.

On some builds it’s pointless to “Burst them down” since they are gaining more life from being rez’d then you can cleave. and interupts themselfs are almost pointless unless you have another teammate preforming a stomp.

don’t you want more build diversity then the 4-5 spec’s that can abuse it now?

The mechanic isn’t really bad (it’s based of the old d&D games). It needs to be toned downed.

I would rather see rez be extremly slow with reduced cool downs on banners/signet/ect then the fast paced rez’s we have now.

Because the downed state was created to be the greatest crutch in this game.

Now don’t speak ill of it or you will have a bandwagon full of pvps stating it’s “skillful play”
when in reality it was created to fight high burst spec’s. Arena net nerfed most of those builds but refuse to tweak the crutch state. this is the main reason you only seen zerk thieves for the last few meta’s. It is also why the abujured can 3 cap most of there games (not that they need it)

Just be thankful most people haven’t realize how stuipid quickness + rez is atm, when they do…

Who ever uses the downed state more efficiently while in a 4on4 and sending there 5th man (out of a team of 3-4 bruisers) to play hopscotch?

I’m going have to agree that acro is probably the worst trait line i have seen in awhile.

From a pvp standpoint:
What arena net failed to understand is sometimes you had to chain dodges. I’m all for active dodging but This game is flooded with AOE, High damage channel skills (Vs squishy thief’s anyway) and random proc’s. When you boil it down, thief simply lacks enough damage to down a target (s/d) when you trait Acro. You do not have enough evades to live long enough to down an opponent.

It’s bugged. Shadow trap + Deadly trapper is suppose to give you
15 stacks of might 13 stack of vulnerability.

Since your last “Bug” Fix patch it only gives
10 stacks of might and 5 stacks of vulnerability. (it never gave you the full stacks of vulnerability, which is understandable)

Please fix this before people start calling it a “Feature” like the immobilize glitch…

This Is how guild wars 2 is suppose to be played.

The last meta wasn’t balanced at all. The reward Vs Risk was horrible. This is also a mmo it will never be balanced. It’s a waste of resouces to try, Fix the reward vs risk equation and things would be great.

for Pvp. What do you think of the Idea of Project Tranquility Radius increase from 340 radius to 10,000. Sort of like a long range healer, or a “back line bunker”. A Reverant sitting on home point would heal allies at mid (340 ever 3 seconds). This would force the enemy team to break mid and rush home if the lacked dps . It Might add another dynamic to pvp.

the rest of the radius on other ventari tablets would stay close range (340 radius)

(con) people hiding tablets in random locations, though the tether migrates this a little bit)

I would Also like to See a “Push” trait added to Ventaris will. with protactive solace active, so say every 10s while moving the tablet it will push enemys (cap control)

Reducing Quick pocket’s to 5 seconds base would be extreme when paired with (runes of warrior?)

This is how the game was at launch, High burst reaction based combat. if you played at launch you will adept pretty quick. Those 15 min fights never belonged in this game. The game is simply not designed around it.

Not to be rude but if your looking for that style of combat there are plenty of other games out there that follow it. There are very few action based combat games so please don’t ruin this one. (again)

Chill destroy’s thieves, If you would watch some gameplay footage of a thieve getting hit by chill you will notice he will always try and clear it. Movement speed is locked into animation speed. so things like heartseeker / flanking strike / death blossom ect all lose distance. get a friend to log on to class that can chill, you roll a s/d thief, your IAS is so slow that he can litterly walk out of all your attacks. this includes instants like inf strike though your window is much shorter. (range 130 on sword (150 in reality) plus the other point is are initiative is locked between wpn bars. once where out we are dead. This is why we have decent auto attack dmg vs compared to other classes (though not the best)

b) Auto attacks will turn over, this will tell you the location. this is the time to spam AA. Air/Fire will also proc and give the thieves location. Besides for blinding powder and stealth on steal you have enough time to pull/push a thief when he is trying to cast a stealth skill.
c) it is impossible to block a invisable target, you wouldn’t know when to raise your shield. the only eceptions to this would be shelter or any other dome type invulerable.

Edit: going to log on so you will have to wait for a rebuttal for your next statement

First off, you can interrupt withdraw. the chances of it succeeding are pretty low, but ive done it before. Withdraw is countered by poison and chill. It is not spam-able for it has a cool down. you should consider using focus on your mesmer, it eats thieves when mixed with GS 5… remember thieves have poor access to stability. immobilize stacking is the fault of arena net. not thieves…

Engineer’s don’t have a high burst spec because it was nerfed at launch…

We are not emotional at all. We all understand no matter what we do we are going to get nerfed. the reason is simple, Revolving door population. thieves excel at killing new player’s/bad player’s. we will always look like top dog’s but in reality your better of rolling something else. Metrics are a horrible way to balance a game when it’s revolving door.

Finally, how can you have problems killing thieves at this point. it is literately mind boggling. Stealth is good for losing target lock (not channeling) and that’s pretty much it. stealth rez/spiking is pointless and dangerous. it is much easyier to pop invulerability to spike, drop a banner to rez, or a signet.

Them nerfing preloading s3 dumbed down s/d… what a glorious fabrication you have crafted.
Forcing an enemy player towards your return point took positioning. preloading larc strike + return took timing (as you had to time when he would dodge roll past the circle). Them adding a Cd on return dumbed it down even more. instead of using your return for medium/short range it forced every thieve to set there return point at long range and use the “In/out” fighting style you see now.

and the reason it was nerfed was due to port stomping not because you could “preload”

don’t try and justfify one of the dumbest changes on the thieve class. you do realize this game targets casual players, that means the player base is pretty much a revolving door. new player’s don’t understand basic thief mechanics and they whine on the forum. which gave you the appearance that it was “rightfully” nerfed. i guess the counter of “walking in the other direction” was to complicated for some people.

So ill give you some hints. It was nerfed because it was to stronk vs pve
It will kill you if you get immobilized without swap or stow set.
Its boon is useless. The CD is long and very few thieves use it.

Well If a dev is reading this. It seems to be a problem with teleports + rendering.

Unless i have mastered the art of thief and can go perma stealth without having any utilities / wpn combo’s set/used. chances are it is a problem with teleports/rendering (it was either shadow step or steal that made me invisible I did not trait steal for stealth)

(I am using Unload in SS)

It seems like everyone uses some ungodly tank spec for every class now.

There was a necro with like 5 life bars that everyone was beating on until the rest of the team arrived.

I take it this game is not balanced around 1v1 in the least.

This game isn’t balanced at all. No risk builds are way more rewarding then high risk builds, It’s been like that for a long time sadly. As for everyone running tanky build’s that is also true.. Circle Vs circle is why everyone is running keyboard turning spec’s. It is simply impossible to kill the 100 player’s need to get to 500 points considering you only have 15 mins then factor in the down state, capped stats, banners/rez’s the nerfs they have given every power build It’s really a sad state of affair’s considering this game was founded on Reaction based combat… ah those where good times…

The best i seen was me running a 25/30/0/0/15 spec on thief (one of the highest dps builds) Vs a warrior. It took 20 hits (i counted) to bring him down, i would of died if he hit me one more time his total was 4… 5x more work.

“balance is the best it’s ever been” is just a statement some random kids believe so they can boost there ego. don’t fall for it, it’s not even close to being true.

So the point being is: It doesn’t matter if you win or lose, as long as you had fun.

Yeah I believe if its a choice between Flanking strikes and Thrill of the crime. Thrill will win hands down.

I don’t want to give the dev’s to much grief yet though. as it does seems they put some time into this. and there will probably be a few changes between now and live.

I just can’t shake the feeling this is going to be the initiative changes all over again. (seen as a buff by the wide community, and seen as nerf to every thief except for p/d)

And This has got to be the most Useless trait in the game now…

Flanking strikes:
Lose ALL endurance, 50% slower endurance regin. 6 second haste…..

not only does it kitten over your dodging, but that 6seconds haste completly screws up the frame rates on FS. so you can’t dodge at all… on a squishy thieve, Face palming is not even remotely enough for this change.

15 mins that’s insanity,

You should just do what i do, once the q time hits 6-10 mins start losing, takes awhile but it’s worth it in the end..

The leader boards haven’t meant anything since launch, same with win/loss rates, Unless your a competitive person who must win every game, I can’t really see the point of waiting that long for a match..

The Reason 2/0/0/6/6 works is three factor’s.

What Ameterasu said: but keep in mind that burst builds also need the fire/air procs.

Sleight of hand: This will allow the thieve to interupt heals, which is important when you lack dps and have to 2vs1 people.

Might “Meta”: There is so much might from sigils/runes/traits ect that a thief can drop power /crit line Grab bountiful theft And not lose that much dps. Personally until the recent change to flanking strike, i thought that build was a joke. but as i didn’t stack might it was common for them to crit me for 500-1000 dmg, on a 25/30/0/0/15 thief… It’s a bit diffrent now because of the iniaitive changes, the meta spec has more access to initiative then burst build.

Glock s/d thieves, mesmers, ranger’s ect. All need air/fire, Your forgetting that they have pretty much nerfed every power build in this game. without them there useless. you can not put out enough DPS to break though some of these sustain classes.

As for 70% uptime on evade…. 1/2 second dodge animation on FS animation itself is closer to 1 second. Shortbow evade again 1/2 second with an added backstep afterwards animation is closer to 1 second. Dagger 3 … yeah right. Withdraw.. you guess’d it another 1/2 or 3/4 second evade again about a 1 second animation. s/d thieves are easy to kill, you just need timing, and in the MESMER case you need to dodge steal (for there stability) and proceed to make them a hacky sack. it is that easy…
take away there mobility… that’s all you need to do….

For kitten and giggles.. Ranger s/d (4) or is it (3) 1 1/2 second dodge animation… that’s right you can fit every thieve dodge animation into that one ability’s D animation..
(please remember that CDs keeps this balanced)

Sorry Op i went way off topic but it had to be said. So back to Panic strikes: Immobilize stacking. That is the main problem with this trait. on its own its not that bad. Stacked with other immobilize on thiefs its annoying. Stack it with allies+ your immobilize and it becomes brutal.
