Turn up your camera rotation speed. when you get used to it, crank it up again. i find it much faster then using about face key, but it’s really just preference.
The rest is just timing. Give it time and you will eventually commit everything to muscle memory.

And this is why the skill level of this game has greatly demised. Keyboard turners constantly whining about thieves. Too good to be true. Errors will be made imo and they will do someting stupid. Usually when they do deserved nerfs which change the game they screw it up by “compensating” with massive buffs. Like when they tried to nerf initative and in fact buffed it massively.

Why am i not surprised? The only thing Anet was good at all this years is finding way to nerfs thieves (pretending it is a buff) and screw up other classes at the same time… while completely ignoring huge issues that plagued the class since launch.
Watch it, teleport/terrain bug will be still not fixed. Last refuge will still get thieves killed. Will still get hit mid of dodge/evade with 22 ms latency etc….
Oh and certanly they will make sure that engis are on the top of the food chain as always and celestial classes can collect points while drooling on keyboard because Anet apprently has 0 understanding of risk vs reward concept.

Not at all elitist, there is less skill involved in pvp, your forgetting a very important aspect.
Hidden Mechanics. 3 quick examples (though there is literately a full page worth in total)
-Activation time after wpn swap. If you started with Pvp you probably wouldn’t even notice it, but there is a .2 – .5 second delay after swaping. I know this for a fact since it destroyed one of my favorite wvw combo’s.
-Allowing Port’s Without LOS. Height porting. *though the height porting could be “gamed” in wvw by using a 40ish degree right angle port. at certain locations.
- No res sickness, No 5 downed instant death.
This one really annoys me, im sick of killing the same people 3-5 times just to watch there teammates spam AOE and rez them back. That idiotic CD on Return is to thank. And Why did they add a cd to return… That’s right. because of Example 2.
I could go on but its pointless too. the best thieve ive seen was from wvw. but like most thieves they have quit due to biased balancing. so congrats He just might be the “Best” but you shouldn’t brag. In reality its only due to the fact that arena net has a firm grasp of your hand.

Look for OP Zaccaury he was always asking about Rifles for thieves chances are its posted on a thread by him. The reasoning behind it was Thieves would be OP, just think about this for a min. We have Stealth/Shadowsteps/and rolls, we would be uncatchable.
I wouldn’t worry about it Op, there is no chance in hell there going to give a thief a 1200 range wpn. they have stated it many years ago. And as a 1 handed wpn would be alot of balance, it’s safe to assume it;s going to be either a Great Sword or Staff (as they are the most asked for sets since launch)

You seem to be forgetting that whatever the thief gets, so does ele + eng., that is far to many sweet looking uppercuts.
Besides are next spec is going to be “treasure hunter” with are unique ability being “you gain 50% more loot on downed”

Try not to get offended by this but, the problem isn’t thieves, its you. After maining a thieve for a long period then trying the other classes i’ve come to the conclusion thieves are a loot bag . I am dead serious. it is a joke how easy it is to kill thieves. The only 2 reasons you see them in pvp is: They are the best hopscotch players (how boring) and Most thieves just like the mechanics of that class.
That is not the thieves fault, but arena nets for only putting in boring conquest.
Stealth is useless with all the Aoe spam + auto targeting, Evades only get you so far. (rangers had just as many evades at one point, sadly they where wrongfully nerfed) as for Massive mobility… well other classes have that but you need to have the 180 spin button set. (ranger). We have no invincabilities like other classes, are condition clear is poor, we have low base hp + def, 9/10 wpn skills have been nerfed (s/d + sb) And honestly unless your running burst you are going to lack the damage to kill most targets.
So short answer… No.

Since unload/pistol whip/repeater all took nerfs due to synergizing to well with haste, then they nerfed haste. how about adding a trait
-haste gains 50% ias while duel wielding pistols. (this pretty much reverts the haste change for pistols) and since there dmg has already been “balanced” around haste + unload it should normalize things again.
And / Or also
Since Arena net has a fascination with life steal (SoM, Invigorating Precision , hm can’t remember the name atm healing on int use)They could add a life stealing ability to unload. (or heal per hit) its much easyier for them to tweak it over the signet/traits, this would open up an option for offhand use (healing) while keeping Ls low on other set’s (we can’t have a repeat of the LS meta can we thieves) and since thieves lack def, i doubt it will ever be considered op.
Course none of these suggestions deal with the fact that it has limited mobility. (which translate into p/p still being a bit weaker) These are outside the box so to speak but i firmly belive p/p should have something a bit diffrent.
Aeroxe, I highly doubt any of these troll comments are serious. But it is a decent way to keep interest in this thread.
This whole Celestial debacle is entirely created by arena nets balancing designs from 2.5 years ago. There is no fix, we are still in the domino effect from them nerfing (mobility [things like Lf, Rtl, ect) and burst. They can’t target ele’s or Cele cause they will go back to being a lootbag. They can’t target the real problem (burst healing, healing over time) cause they added a bunch of crap to other classes + ele. (multiple cond procs, passive immunities, random procs, ect)
Ele vs s/d thieve at launch was a 50/50 fight. (they used to be my favorite class to duel) They will never get that split again sadly.
So sit back and enjoy the ride, Whatever they decide to change should be hilarious.

As for the ranger, ask yourself this Op. would you rather fight a burst build? or one of these passive condition/sustain builds? I will take the power build anyday. at least they still have to move.
was thinking maybe a small range aoe like 130 radius (sword range). You are right though it has a high change of either being Op or Useless.
I can’t really suggest anything else at the moment, i’m just getting off a 2 mnt break and have forgotten a lot. So I’m going to play the “i’m a newb” card and respectfully retreat to my corner. Good luck getting some change though, the thieve could really use a shake up at this point.
I don’t think they want to give d/d more evasion. and since d/d needs a bit more sustain how about… a 1/4 or 1/2 second of blind on landing. this might migrate a little bit.
so we would have 1/4 evasion animation (small window for counterattacks) 1/4 blind on land.
There is a reason most people say the combat was better at launch then now.

I always thought venom & traps should clear there active effect, So ice drake venom would clear chill, tripwire would break stun, ect.
I’m with the doom and gloom guy though.
The sad part about all of this is The launch version of flanking strike is better then this. and that is including the pathing errors. Oh well im on an AA break anyway. maybe in 6 mnts they will set it back or more then likely nerf it again.
(for those of you who don’t know, the dodge animation is the same as now but after 1/4* of a second it would start the larcenous strike animation. you could dodge out of it if you wanted.)
Its a good lesson though. Never ask for a bug fix it just leads to 2 years of hilarity.

also “duel stepping” has a nice glitch. if you hit inf strike and inf signet you will only go 900 distance.
Multiple spots in pvp will break your step, even though they worked pre patch.
Acro was never the problem. if it was S/d would of been meta from day 1. the problem is a combination of Air/Fire + runes of strength, Sleight of hand + B/v and the player base itself.,
B/v on it’s own isn’t that bad ( Imo it’s cheesy) Soh should of NEVER been put into this game period. it lacks an acceptable counter.
Since s/d does low base damage and you can’t effectivly min/max in CvC fire/air are almost necessary since you will lack the dps to kill most sustain builds (though it is possible to “cheese them” to death by simply soh there heals + b/v.)
As for the player base. A lot of people Refuse to learn the mechanics of how a thief works. so when they see Fs they think “oh he’s invincible until he stops moving” the dodge animation is 3/4 seconds long (look for the dip in the spin if you don’t want to count) Roll for inititive is also 3/4 seconds long. Sb #3 is 1/2 seconds long. the dodge animation ends before the skill animation on every single one of these. (having a brain fart on withdraw atm i think its 1/2 seconds though)
s/d is really easy to counter it has been since the added the cd to Inf strike did noone wonder why every single s/d thieve was using this rotation Attack-roll out/return – repeat?
Anyway you other thieves should take a step back and listen there are no qq threads about thieves this is the FIRST time since launch. you should really enjoy the blissful silence cause in 2-3 weeks the Evade spam qq is going to start again.

There is nothing wrong with adapting, the problem is thieves are expected to every single patch. The dev’s are biased. the patch notes is all the proof you need.
the complaining will never stop, look at the upcoming changes to FS. we are hearing “why would you give thieves even more evade” They fail to realize that it won’t be as bad as it was at launch you had to set +int traits (which where nerfed) for the perma evade and since Fs won’t switch to Ls without a target, we get to look forward to a whole lot of 1 spam.
We need to get every thief together, log into spvp and purposely die. it’s the only way where going to get a slight buff.

I try to stay away from condition builds myself but i can give you a few answers.
(don’t get me wrong its entirely for my benifit, If i help someone every 2-3 mnts i don’t get banned from the forums for being a troll )
1. Trail and error, find out what works best for you. The thieve community will probably give you a build / gear selection ect but you will be a much better thieve if you theory craft yourself. don’t be afraid to yolo into groups to see how long you can last, in the long run it will help you.
2. short answer, yes.Long answer, No. the more venoms you trait the less sustain you have,
3. wouldn’t recommend it. . shortbow or D/p for the stealth. thief s/d is meant for power builds there are limited conditions on this wpn set. though it is effective for creating space so it will work with p/d.
4. Lot’s of things, i can’t ruin the surprise for you
5. its a good signet for condition specs, the torment was aoe 2 stacks last i checked. thieves have access to easy psn and one of your traits in the power line will apply weakness to psn which makes these 2 good cover conditions.
6. Its good for a laugh, really though its just a short “burst” version of SoM. its decent for 1-3 player’s take SoM if you plan on zerging, (it will proc on fields) I take His myself, it clears conditions + applies regen.
7. Cluster shot won’t aggro outside it’s radius. you can use it to pull small group of guards and kill them slowly it depends on your build. I just Aggro the scouts, Ds (reflects scouts projectiles), Finish scouts kite the guard +yaks +lord.

Everytime I remember that S/D 2 was instant cast I get misty eyed , god I miss it , it made sword play so freaking fluid , now however it’s so clunky ugh.
^This, we where so fluid. now it feels like there is a ball and chain tied to my ankle.
