There is more incentive to stay at the lower tiers then there is to grind up to legendary. Why bother? So you can wait in q for 20 mins…?
Or my personal favorite “because there more skillful” it’s cute that they think they can measure skill in a skill less game.

Well i don’t work at arena net, or know anything about inside dynamics, but it seems to me that they are understaffed. Stop being cheap and hire more balance dev’s. They have 3 mnt’s to “let the meta settle” And then make changes. which might work If it was one dev per profession. which it is not.

Karl (the last i checked) balances three professions
mesmer , Ele and thief. he has 2 months to do so (random number based on letting the meta settle). It’s not surprising that they are constantly running out of time. if you look at the patch notes it seems every single patch there is one profession that get’s the bare minimum of changes.

Here are two easy examples:

-give thief’s stability (i would put it on bandit’s defense)
OR
-Increase the stun activation time from 1/2 seconds to 3/4.

It’s really that easy.. see the problem is thief’s are used to avoiding damage, we see a guardian and we all dodge to activate the trap. which end’s up killing us since we get tagged with the stun.

I’m going to skip ahead a bit, but i pretty much agree with what kageseigi wrote.

That’s one of the problems with “Enhancement types” some skills get to many effects. and while noone in there right mind would pick every option there are still far to many.

Let’s look at steal:

Deadly Arts Serpent’s Touch — Stealing inflicts poison. While in the downed state, your attacks apply poison.
Deadly Arts Mug — Deal damage and gain life when stealing. This attack cannot critically hit enemies.
Deadly Arts Improvisation — You can use stolen items twice. One random skill category is immediately recharged when you steal
Shadow Arts Hidden Thief — Stealing grants you stealth.

trickery Kleptomaniac — Stealing gives you initiative.
Trickery Thrill of the Crime — When you Steal, you and all nearby allies gain fury, might, and swiftness for 10 seconds.
Trickery Bountiful Theft — Stealing grants you and all nearby allies vigor. You rip boons from your target and grant them to nearby allies.
Trickery Lead Attacks — Increases damage and condition damage per initiative spent. Steal recharges faster.
Trickery Bewildering Ambush — Stealing also applies confusion.
Trickery Sleight of Hand — Stealing also dazes the target. Reduces the recharge of Steal

That is far to many enhancements.

As for activation’s:
-Anything that directly takes control from target player (like panic strikes,) should not exist. all forms of passive CC should be locked onto abilities only.
-Auto immunities. these should not exist. they are a destroyer of diversity. they are also creating powercreep (the unblock able on b/v was no doubt a direct result of these)

The ability Haste changed to 50 seconds (down from 60)
The trait is still set at 60 seconds. (48 if you pick trickster)

No don’t buy hot if your just going to pvp. it is a complete waste of money.

To much power creep, While this game used to be reaction based. Arena net in there effort to lure pve player’s in to pvp completly changed that. Gw2 is pretty much like every single other eastern game out nowadays. an over reliance on Stuns, Aoe, cleaves, Dots/conditions. you can pretty much make it through a whole match without using your brain nowadays…

I usually main a thief, my favorite profession to fight against where other thieves. Not anymore. It’s so boring. it boils down to “Do you have Soh? , B/v? (Which was power creep-ed to stack 2 times and is unblockable” And ID? (impairing disruption)
Let’s put it this way, at launch when other thieves used to hit me for 17k i had a greater chance tocounter vs them then this “Balanced” Meta we have nowaday’s.

They pretty much took the player out of Pvp.

I’ll keep playing my thief till I get bored and then quit for another 6 months.
I also don’t bother anymore in giving suggestions since this forum is never checked by devs.
In the end I’ll play any weapon set I wish to play, I don’t care if it’s considered bad for pvp, wvw or pve.

At this point in the games life your better of learning multiple professions. Near launch you could stick with one, since everyone was learning at that time it was easier to learn about other professions by combat.

That is the point, you running a non meta build will make you “Better” since you will need to learn what and when to dodge/burst/timing ect. When you eventually switch back to a meta build you will have a better grasp of the basics.

(This was mostly directed at new player’s i have no clue about your total game xp/time )

There is no difference between the player quality in unranked compared to ranked. see what you guy’s are seeing are what the people stuck in “MMR hell” experienced all season.

“Get good and carry” I believe you told them? that goes both way’s i suppose

On another note. noone in the right mind takes unranked seriously. hell even before they removed solo q most people didn’t.

Do yourself’s a favor and roll a build that doesn’t involve arena net carrying you. it will help you in the long run. (and in the next season)

you guy’s want a winning condition strat. it’s pretty complicated boys dunno if you can handle it.

Options: set snap to target. Profit. i know you need a degree to figure that out…

i’m pretty sure you could pick lint out of your toe’s and it would involve more skill then a condition build. at least that requires some dexterity.

Again its the only way Scrappers can safe stomp. If you want to make it interruptible be prepared to also accept every other classes “safe stomp” be interruptible.

Shall we make thieves elite stomp also have a 1.5 sec cast time also so they can “tune” their impact? Should guardians F3 shield also have a cast time so they can be interupted before shield appears?

Hate to break this to you but there is a pre cast time on every ability in the impact strike chain…. It is also not a safe stomp. now in theory you can take Haste to speed this up, but to do that you would need to drop Thrill of the crime. a choice most thief’s won’t go for. The total time is 1/2 seconds + 3/4 seconds + 1 1/2 seconds. by all means reduce this to 1.5 instead of the 2 3/4 seconds it is now

Thief’s safe stomp was already nerfed, that would of been IR + stomp + steal. Which btw also recieved a cast time.

(This was the worst example you could of used)

so some of you believe that “Thieves” are the sole reason bunkers exist. You gentlemen obviously have a short memory spam. I’ve been reading this more and more on the forum. and while this originated from the same anti thieves from launch. i’m seeing more and more random people belief this ridicules statement.

Answer me this:
Since thieves where out of the meta for a few season, why was there still bunker builds? If thieves truly are the Alpha power spec, why where they out of the meta when a power spec rev was in?

One day you will realize why your not seeing many other power spec’s, It’s painfully obvious honestly. Besides for Thieves/Rev’s Every single other power spec lacks the damage to punch through the insane amount of power creep arena net freely handed out.

Next time before whining about thieves and receiving a “Gift’s of Passive” from arena net perhaps you will locate your dodge key. and we wouldn’t be in this mess.

well i’m obviously from the entitled generation, i expect a gold star after every attempt.
refusal of said star is a violation of my safe space.

Seriously though. from my understanding they have it set up so it’s not a 50/50 match up, it’s more like 70-30 60/40 ect. now in theory you can “Win” the unwinnable fight’s but due to Class comp that becomes impossible for some matches.

alot of people don’t realize how the MMR system is set up. you can have an inactive / new account streak through the pips because it has an inflated mmr (which mean’s it’s getting the 70-30 matchups in it’s favor) now this inflated MMR eventually vanishes after a certain amount of games. this is dropping player’s into tier’s they don’t belong in. When you get enough of these player’s you get Mmr Hell.

they had the same problem with the old solo q teamq board. you would see people with under 20 games in the top 100

They already have:
-auto aim through options and an increased in channeled abilities.
-auto proc evades
-auto immunities both power and condition
-auto defensive procs
-auto offensive procs

this will be the next great thing, we are but one change away from becoming bots! for the health of esport’s they should hurry up with this last implimantion.

It’s annoying.

Dodge + steal, this trigger’s there traps. then pull out, then FS and signet, which triggers them again. Now hope you can burst the hell out of them before there traps come off CD and hopefully rupt’ his heal with mace crack. Doable yes, but like Ario said completly pointless due to the mechanics of conquest.

even if you win you might not even get it recapped due to TTK. and if you do you will be fighting to hold it within moments (with low initiative and utilities on cd) not a good position for a thief.

This will be an eclectic post, bare with me.

There are some things they should remove from MMR.

Look at what fishball wrote, that is a perfect example.
His friend just started playing which basically translates to a higher MMR then an active player. this mean’s right from the get go he is going to be favored by the MMR system. He will get “carried” to a higher division before his MMR settles. (which will cause problems for people that were suppose to be in said diversion)

-They need to remove the inflated MMR on New and Inactive accounts. It didn’t work when we had solo q (remember the top tier spots where filled with player’s with a 10-0 record) It’s not working now.

Match Making:
Alot of the wacky match making is due to bad balance.
“Woah~, B-but this game is pretty balanced atm”
and you are correct. but you are overlooking one very important thing:
Ease of Use.

Reset MMR on every account when the season starts. when it end’s pause that MMR value, and use it next season. this will prevent people like me from trolling.

You lose 3, then you end your losing steak (+2 pips)
you win 2 more games (win streak) (2 + 1 +2)
You are at +5 pips.

Then you sit in Sapphire Last division and troll the rest of the season
(you get to create salty people in both sapphire and ruby!)

Ive been trying to get them to raise the Point’s per kill for years Yasi. That is an immovable crutch that the “top tier” player’s can’t live without though. Save your self some time and give up. Even though it logically makes perfect sense with the TTK and TTR being as high as they are it will never happen.

Just like Arena net tweaking the downstate (yes a mechanic that was designed around the high burst we had at launch) never going to happen (“top tier” player’s can’t snowball the map without it)

-When i say “top tier” i mean that jokingly This game has been turned into:
Boon spam , condition spam, Passive defensive procs, offensive procs. and power creep. those are some of the way’s arena net has taken the player out of PVP.
there are no “top tier” player’s just a series of crutch’s propping up some shaky ego.

the Confusion stack should be the last to apply (which would make it the first to remove) I sometimes wonder if these dev’s even think of other professions when power creeping er i mean “balancing”.

Putting confusion last rewards bad play. (Again) Since this is a team game trying to get to confusion while other spec’s are Aoe condtion spamming Is near impossible on classes that remove one cond at a time.

Otherwise warriors are fine.

Op this whole system is set up for premades and to keep a 50/50 win/lose rate. since you are in sapphire, abuse the kitten out of it. Since you’ve lost your last 3 games, take a week or 2 off. When you come back the MMR system will try to even out your W/L rate. so you should win the next 3 games. (that’s 5 pips or 1 tier) once you cross the next tier purposly lose 3 more games, and repeat.

Deciever it works better in Pvp then it does in Wvw. Just like Inf return. this is probably due to terrain (again)

I used Shadow trap for a long time. It’s good for backcapping.

Did the fix the vulnerability glitch yet? It wasn’t applying the trait (master trapper) vul the last time i checked.

fluffball, swap to your main toon. When you get back to 50/50 swap to your alt again.
There is a tipping point you do not want to fall below, or your pretty much doomed to joke matchs for the rest of eternity.

Match people on an “appropriate” skill level. That’s cute interpretor. I guess my skill level is watching my other 4 teammates quadruple cap home at start. yeah for sure an esl strat that will be widely used this year.

Infact there skill level is so close i had to break out my OP pure zerk shatter mesmer that i haven’t used in years. just ignore the 1vs3 and 1vs2 i’ve been doing with the skill level set so close they must of been bot’s.

Anyway enough joking around.

-There profession balance is throwing off people’s MMR. which in turn is screwing with match making. (basically there putting people higher on the MMR ladder then they should be due to passive carries)
-They did not reset MMR. which was pretty clueless, since some people where working on there professional achiements and lost. which lowered there MMR.
-There TTK is to high which makes low to mid tiers a gaint zerg fest.
-They should of set every player as: Hasn’t played for 1 month. this would of prevented the people getting carried to legendary on the easy road. (in most cases there the ones saying MM is fine)

I’m sure there are more reasons that just what ive seen so far.

This is going to depend on your profession.
For instances ask a thief, he would probably prefer the 4 trait system (pretty near every thief was running 4 lines)
Other profession would like 3 trait lines instead.

The June patch removed build diversity for thieves, I don’t think anyone would argue that point.

So now that you have to suffer with the same poor match making we had to put up with all season what do you think?
