It would have been nice to be able to guest between EU and NA servers, and hopefully they continue to work toward making that possible.

I’ve seen quite a few mentions of meeting in overflow in this thread. That doesn’t allow playing open world content together, only dungeons (as far as I know).

This is incorrect. You can play open world content together in overflow. You just need to form a group in an overflow region (Lions Arch) and then you can go anywhere in the world with your group.

No. Simply forming a group on an overflow in LA doesn’t allow you to play open world content with your group of cross-server members.

Currently, you must all be in the same overflow server of that particular zone, and in order to do that, an overflow needs to exist, and one member of your group has to be on an overflow in the first place so you can join on them. Most zones don’t have the player population to even have overflows in the first place, so this kind of thing doesn’t happen very often unless you happen to form a group at that particular moment with someone on a server that has overflows in the zone you want to play in.

This is again, incorrect. I very often join non-fractal groups while i’m still in overflow. Could you explain how our group gets to AC or CoF in your theory? Because that’s exactly what i’ve been doing.

What you do if you want to play together inworld is that you send one group member to LA, other group members join in overflow and now you can go anywhere you want.

So AC and CoF are ‘anywhere in the world’ and ‘open world content’, now? Instanced dungeons are NOT open-world content, sorry to say. You can’t do things like dragons or other large DEs without being on the same overflow with your cross-server group until guesting gets put in or you all feel like free-transferring to the same server and be stuck there for 7 days.

What if the teamwork in combat revolved around “essentially the same attack” that everyone has for damage and survivability.

What I mean is, everyone has a group heal, but it is on long cooldown. In order to heal and live through the fight you have to time and rotate your group heals otherwise you die.

Everyone can break the bosses armor so that he takes damage, but it is on a long cooldown, and if you all blow it at the same time, then there will be long periods of no damage being done, resulting in the group dying because they couldn’t meet the damage needed.

Everyone can control the boss, but you have to space out controls between the group otherwise there will be periods where the boss is flailing about and hitting everyone for obscene damage, and the only way to prevent that is to immobilize/knock down/block at the right times, but for the group.

Take that self survivability and apply it to the group and the group becomes stronger for longer periods of damage and combat.

this kind of does exist, it really boils down to the fact that guild wars 2 is very forgiving right now, go play some higher level fractals and you start to see people really come together with team work to succeed.

The main reason people dont use teamwork, support, and properly use their defensive/team defensive skills, is not because this type of play isnt encouraged by the mechanics, its because the fights are designed so that people can win. (generally speaking)

Exactly. It’s like I said earlier in the topic. The core mechanics are actually solid. There just isn’t much content that really showcases what it can do at the moment.

Simply saying it took five months to complete MC doesn’t tell the whole story, since much of that time was likely taken up passing through gear gates and the whole issue of actually finding a time to get 40 people on all at once.

Most of the supposed difficulty in WoW was about logistical issues involving the organization of large groups of people and getting them to do exactly what they needed to do at the right time. Individual tasks were not difficult, but communicating when exactly they need to flip a switch in a group of 40 was the hard part. With a group of 5 like you have in GW2, there are fewer variables, and such communication hiccups are significantly reduced if not eliminated entirely.

Hobocop.1508

No thank you no trinity otherwise i would play other mmos but im not.

couple of reasons :

1st you have healers and tanks thinking they are more important than everyone else in a group which in turns breeds a horrible community.

2nd There is no way in wow that a dps player get a quick group you always wait much longer than a tank or healer.

Also whats the point of standing still in a fight thats the most boring thing in other mmos for me doesnt matter what you do you always gets hit that is just not realistic its like standing still in front of a person with a gun and just wait for him to shoot you and hoping for the best.

It is not as if you didnt know that there is not gonna be a trinity either if that was your thing why switch to another mmo. If the wow type machanics is your thing then play wow that is the exact same reason i moved to guildwars the trinity is not my thing so i left wow and im happy.

Speaking about the realism… how realistic downstate is? You lay down and raise your hand so you can magically get back to fight endless times?

I won’t comment on finding party because I haven’t tried much yet. Looking at other posts tho it seems that finding one is easier with certain classes/specs. For me it doesn’t matter if I have to look longer because bleeds dont stack past 25 or because they already have 3 dpsers.

Looking at your post you are another one that thinks trinitiy=wow and thats the game on wnich you are basing your opinion. Well than I did every raid and dungeon in that crappy game and I hardly ever stood still during encounter, and I only stood still because I couldnt cast while moving and every second of not casting counts as dps loss.

On a side, in WoW after every encounter I knew I could have played better. I messed spell priority a bit, or I popped my cds a while too fast. I don’t have that feeling in gw2 there is no self improvement.

have you ever done any group content? or are you basing this soley off the open world events? If you did dungeons or fractals higher than 10, and didnt feel any teamwork, or see the importance of your build, playstyle and how well you execute, you were probably being carried by a team, because even ascalon catacombs can be pretty harsh without people who know what they are doing and how to effectively deal with situations, beyond a dps race.

I did a dungeon naked with my Guardian + Hammer and went AFK on bosses with 1 on auto and never died. Cleared the dungeon, got almost 70 silver, tokens, loot, and only had to move my character to the bossfights. Didn’t have to communicate with my team at all. Didn’t have a role, i just sat there, put down wards, and never died. I washed the dishes, watched a few youtube videos and made a bagel with cream cheese and capers all while auto-piloting.

Yeah, this is part of the reason why implementing a more solid trinity or direct healer class would improve this game socially, depth wise, and design wise. Then maybe the team could design an encounter in which the boss had real difficulty not just a health bar in scientific notation and 1HKO you had to dodge out of once ever 25 seconds.

Do people defending the game as it is not play it? Are they even lv 80 yet?

This doesn’t really say anything about the core mechanics, but the design of that particular dungeon/path, which is lacking in several places. Convenient how you failed to specify which dungeon you ran. Trying to do that in places like Arah and most higher level Fractals isn’t going to fly.

PvE Build Archetypes

I run a hybrid damage/offensive support build on my Warrior, focusing on boon duration and might stacking to provide solid personal damage output and high uptime on offensive boons to the group. I flip between regen banners and healing shouts pretty regularly, but tend to stick with regen banners since I find that groups that provide constant regen aren’t very common. That 150-200 per second tick of healing certainly isn’t nothing when combined with the active defenses of group members, especially when I don’t have to do anything to keep it up besides cast a banner every minute and a half.

I wouldn’t call simply dropping everything that they’ve already built in favor of a hard trinity an improvement.

The core mechanics they have in place right now are solid. It needs refinement and expansion, along with content that actually takes advantage of said mechanics, much like what the trinity has already gone through for many, many years already.

What makes any other criteria more worthy of being part of the monthly achievement than any other criteria?

Suffice it to say that there are people who don’t do fractals, and there are those who don’t participate in WvW. Having these be part of the monthly achievement encourages both camps to move out of their comfort zones and try out different things.

Nobody is forcing anyone to do anything they don’t want to do. The rewards from the monthly achievement are relatively easy to obtain elsewhere and are hardly necessary to enjoy the game.

How much does this review resonate with you?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hobocop.1508

Hobocop.1508

It doesn’t, because with experience, the reviewer has changed his opinion.

And…not to go off topic, but for all the supposed fluidity of ME3’s combat, it’s hampered by the incredibly obnoxious all-in-wonder button syndrome that they refuse to split into separate bindable functions for the PC version. I absolutely LOVE herpa-derping around in and out of cover when trying to revive a teammate, or stopping to revive a teammate when it’s currently suicidal when I’m actually trying to sprint AWAY and get into a better position because one button does all of those things.

It’s funny that you bring up ME3 multiplayer as well, because the weapon leveling system/RNG packs in general in that game was atrocious, and remained that way for months before they took measures to correct it.

Even then, power creep was all over the place in that game when they released the first DLC. Geth Infiltrators basically outperformed everyone in damage with the combination of Tactical Cloak’s damage boost, Hunter Mode, and their absurd heavy melee, allowing them destroy entire groups of enemies before they could even retaliate or even perform actions, and heavier targets didn’t last much longer than that. Then, they could also shoot proximity mines for crowd control and further damage boosts AND use any weapon they wanted with no repercussions. THAT also took months of balancing to bring into line, mostly revolving around buffing virtually every other race/class combination in the game.

SMGs were completely useless aside from extremely specific builds, and assault rifles weren’t much better besides a few specific ones, mostly the Falcon and Mattock because they had unique properties that the other ARs didn’t, and pretty much every single weapon besides Widow/Black Widow and the Carnifex went through numerous incremental buffs before they were as good as they are now, and because of the power creep from their content updates, even those weapons have received buffs as well.

It’s taken almost a year for ME3’s multiplayer to get to the state it’s in now. GW2 is a much larger game and has been live less than 4 months.

Hobocop.1508

I’d like to ask this question again, because it seems that no one ever has a good answer, and this was brought up by someone else when it was dungeon completions as the target of contention last month.

What makes any other criteria more suitable for the monthly achievement than any other criteria? Aside from these past few months when they’ve been linked to big content patches, they’re pretty much arbitrary. What makes those who don’t enjoy fractals/dungeons more privileged than those who don’t enjoy WvW (which has been part of the monthly achievement every month since launch)?

Completion of the monthly achievement is also not necessary. You get Mystic Coins just by doing the daily, and if you want more, you can buy them off the TP.

If you don’t want to do it, then don’t. It’s as simple as that.
