I feel myself decently skilled, lose some win some not yet hitting that 50% mmr, but. Is it possible to actually win a game as a DH against 2 ele bunkers. Whirling winds, magnetic aura and boons out the kitten. Really looking for some insight to taking them down or helping in taking them down.
There is absolutely NO CHANCE you will take any of them past 80% much less down any of them.
There is a reason Guard is trash tier right now past amber tier
People joked about tempest as in “bringing more of the same”
Now compare tempest vs DH status …. 1 class is dominant in every game mode, the other is barely holding on
It’s 1 thing to be underpowered in 1 department, and another to be trash tier in every competitive mode.
Every competitive mode? Guardians are fine if not one of the better WvW classes. PvP is such a joke right now in terms of balance that your definition of “trash tier” currently involves 2/3 of the classes. And although raids/fractals/dungeons aren’t technically “competitive” if we are talking about them: dungeons are irrelevant now and if you can fill a party your lucky; guardians still have a good spot in fractals; and raids are a bad fit for the Guardian.
They said there would be a huge balance patch after their PVP season is over. They most likely won’t be rebuilding classes, but expect some major number tweaking across the board.
Competitive game modes would be raids and sPVP. raids because its a challenging environment where you can’t walk in and simply faceroll like fractals.
No one really cares about wvw right now. The only reason you bring a guard in wvw is because of stability to begin with. That was the case even before HoT.
Just wait till people figure out Dwarf stance revs have as much if not more stability applications, then things will be more interesting.
in Any case, guards need a MAJOR balance pass asap.
Gw2 and competitive, lol. I have to agree with Indure that PvP is simply not even worth taking seriously and maybe even that nobody cares applies to that even more so. But with the speed of balance changes, how can anyone take that seriously?
There’s no point talking about balance or a so called competitive atmosphere when it’s clear the developers don’t even understand the concept. The esports hype is simply nothing but hype and if you want a competitive atmosphere, to probably start looking for another game, because don’t hold your breath. No really, don’t.
What in the last 3 years has Arenanet even done to promote such a thing besides wasting money so we can get a stream with a few hundred views? What have they really done when it comes to player observations who play the game far better than they have to go on anyways? Why does Anet decide that the Guardian should have the mobility of a cripple relative to other classes other than some vague concern of “concept?”. Does that sound like those that actually care about balance? It wasn’t until recently you could even see recent game history, and stats? It took them 3 years just to come up with a ranking system that meant something? And not really because lolabuse.
It hasn’t helped my resentment that this game is revolving around that shoddy balance, and the rest of us get pvp-centric “visual noise” changes to ruin the experience for the rest of us.
The only thing I see is that the Rev and select elite specs seems a bit overtuned, most likely because they want people to buy the expansion
As you said, guardian has been held back by class concept and design for the last 3 years but then they go ahead and throw in the DH to shake things up. BUT they still failed to even adress the core issues from 3 years ago. DH was their 1 chance to correct most class flaws but they ended up introducing new ones like virtues needing a cast time, reducing class survivability etc.
This shows me the devs need to get together 1 day and go over each guardian mechanic from scratch. I am more convinced each day the guard class needs changes in core mechanics rather than number changes. Base HP needs to go up too.
It’s 1 thing to be underpowered in 1 department, and another to be trash tier in every competitive mode.

the rage on balance matters is huge in every game, the problem is Blizzard will in time Rebuild the class Back to balance after so often or every other Expansion, Anet wont do that..[/quote]
It’s 1 thing to be underpowered in 1 department, and another to be trash tier in every competitive mode.
Considering the whole silence I don’t even think Anet is aware of most problems with the guard class. Hence they have gone for 2 years with no change.
Tbh my gut feeling is telling me until the next expansion, or until they do a class re design, things will stay this grim. Just so everyone is aware.
Good luck pugging gorseval on a DH for now
I would jump ship asap. No reason for you to stick around with a butchered and mediocre class. In pve I highly recommend anything else but thief and guard. Trust me you will not be disappointed.
Spvp is completely separate. You can play a chrono in raids and fractals and spvp with guard. But please strongly consider switching at least for pve and exploration
For the record, I have over 4k hours on my guard. Now all my guard does is stick by the forge for crafting
Guardian is:
- trash tier for raids
- mediocre for fractals and pve
- nub stomper in low tier pvp
- trash tier in diamond league and aboveShould be enough for you to make an informed decision. Unless you really love this class I would stay clear of this sinking ship.
Right now whoever thinks guard is in a good spot is either delusuonal, lying or never played anything else
The game is already faceroll anywhere:
-You can have at least 1 or 2 Guards in raids if your team is not bad and have OP Chronos and Berserkers
-Who even bother doing anything other than Swamp Meta? Also PvE is faceroll
-I agree with this
-I don’t agree, It’s not trash if some professions are broken up to the point where taking anything else other than Chronos, Revs and Tempest is meaningless
Dnt and KING can afford to have a Guardian in their roaster, 99.9% of other raids do not. A Guardian is a detriment to a raid team right now. I can tell you that by experience. Try pugging VG as a dragon hunter. You won’t find a group.
Agreed on the swamp meta. But anywhere else I would rather have any other class besides guard and thief
For your last point you are saying the same thing as me, just differently. If 4 professions are op chances are just as good the other 5 are underpowered
See here, that’s the wrong mindset for most of the people:
“Muh this one build can do good with other class, but not with this two classes, dang! How do i make my build perfect!?”Hello, meaning NECRO counter your CURRENT build, this is what you called BALANCE.
Why dont you try other build instead? BURN GUARD? xDWell, here’s my 2 cents, just blown everything you got into Necro face when you FIRSTLY saw him, to stop him from gaining Life Force. Your current build can never out-sustain a skilled Necro.
Till they transfer all those stacks back at you
Only just got into pvp.
I do okay against most things but the one class I can nearly never beat is the necromancer.
Any pro tips for fighting these guys?
They seem to soak up so much damage.
Running the generic Gs/scepter and focus medi build from meta battle.
Maybe for mesmer also?
An equally skilled reaper will DESTROY you 1v1. Do not bother trying to hold a cap vs a necro. You will die in about 10 seconds,
People suggesting stuff in this thread are either amber division or simply never pvped once the expansion hit. The reaper right now is probably the strongest duelist up there with chronos, revs and druids.
Guardian is trash tier in both spvp and pve currently. On my reaper with less than 30h into it I crush guards without breaking a sweat. The easiest match up right now.
I would strongly suggest you not to bother with this class and try something else
Guardian is:
- trash tier for raids
- mediocre for fractals and pve
- nub stomper in low tier pvp
- trash tier in diamond league and above
Should be enough for you to make an informed decision. Unless you really love this class I would stay clear of this sinking ship.
Right now whoever thinks guard is in a good spot is either delusuonal, lying or never played anything else
Guardian damage has been mediocre at best and now has fallen to trash tier with the introduction of elite specs and people learning them.
I am maining a revenant and a reaper right now and let me tell you their dps capabilities sustain and party support blow the Guardian away.
There is a reason you don’t see any guardians in Raids and barely any in 90+ fractals right now.
The only impressive thing the bow has going is the clunky #2 which requires a full zerker build to be remotely effective leaving u at 11k hp
Dragon hunter besides giving you longbow will do absolutely nothing for your dps as guardians have small dmg modifiers in 4 traitlines. Trap’s will give you a small boost in burst dmg but that is still nothing in a 7 min drawn out fight

Hi all
I did have some fun trying to compute a value of the sustain for a few new meta builds:
- chronobunker (before and after the last patch) (http://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Chronomancer_-_Alacrity_Bunker)
- condi rev (http://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Herald_-_Condition_Mallyx)
and for comparison, old meta builds:
- power warrior (http://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Warrior_-_GS/Hammer)
- bunker guardian (http://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Guardian_-_Bunker)
The sustain index 1 that I am computing is supposed to represent the amount of sustained damage the enemy team has to put up to overcome the sustained healing of the build. The sustained index 2 is trying to take into account armor and protection+damage reduction, so it represents the amount of power damage you need (while index 1 is valid for condition damage). I excluded all skills which would prevent point capping (therefore mimicking the build trying to fight on point). I also assume that the enemy has not unblockable/unavoidable skills. This is a very gross estimate, based on value/cooldown and not on a rotation, but it does give an idea.
Formula:
sustain index 1 = healing per second / (1 – evade/block uptime)
sustain index 2 = sustain index 1 * damage mitigation * armor/2200Chrono before patch (using sentinel amulet)
I computed with and without perma-alacrity. While perma-alacrity is not easy to maintain, it is not too hard to have close to perma.
- healing per second: 543 without alacrity, 815 with alacrity
- evade/block uptime (includes dodges): 55% without alacrity, 77% with alacrity
- sustain index 1: 1200 without alacrity, 3564 with alacrity
- sustain index 2: 2461 without, 7311 with
Chrono after patch
- evade/block uptime (includes dodges): 43% without alacrity, 58% with alacrity
- sustain index 1: 947 without alacrity, 1923 with alacrity
- sustain index 2: 1944 without, 3947 with
I used sentinel amulet since this is the most often used one. However, this is not the one maximizing sustain. For the sake of comparison, chrono after patch with clerics has a sustain index 2 of 5474 with alacrity.
What we can notice immediately is how much alacrity adds to the sustain, by increasing the healing but mostly by increasing the invulnerability uptime. That is why I think the only thing left to nerf for chronobunker is their personal alacrity (either by tweaking the alacrity on shatter or the trait “improved alacrity”).
Condi rev
- healing per second: 764 (assuming no conditions when healing with mallyx heal)
- evade/block uptime (includes dodges): 71%
- sustain index 1: 2887
- sustain index 2: 4642
Now you immediately notice something interesting: condi rev has a higher sustain than bunker mesmer. And those condi rev values are without alacrity (since my scenario was defending a point solo). Also, condi rev cannot maintain his own perma-protection or perma-regen. This means that a condi rev supported by a mesmer will have an absolutely insane sustain, much higher than the mesmer himself. And it does this on a glass-cannon amulet.
For comparison, here are old meta builds:
Power warrior
- healing per second: 479 (optimistic, I assumed always 2 adrenaline bars)
- evade/block uptime (includes dodges): 28%
- sustain index 1: 668
- sustain index 2: 694
this is how you would expect offensive builds to work: they do high damage but die fast. Not a surprise that this build is not meta anymore. You would get higher values with the axe-shield variant, but probably not amazingly different.
Bunker guard
- healing per second: 1566 (this was really tough to compute since there are many sources of healing, I would not be surprised if I did a few mistakes)
- evade/block uptime (includes dodges): 24%
- sustain index 1: 2068
- sustain index 2: 3415
What should be the reference of bunker builds. As you see, chronobunker is still a bit above, mostly because of alacrity. Note however, that before asking for chronobunker to be nerfed, the overall power creep should be reduced too, since even bunker guard could not keep up with it.
So in conclusion:
- chronobunker has been nerfed significantly with the last patch, but still has a higher sustain than bunker guard, mostly thanks to the very high alacrity uptime
- condi rev still has the most ridiculous sustain. This kind of sustain should not be possible for a offensive build.
- power rev is even worse (higher invulnerability uptime), and is only “weaker” thanks to the amount of conditions in the current meta.
note: I did not include all details of the calculations because they are a lot of numbers. I do not claim my numbers are perfect, but I sincerely did my best.
Extremely flawed argument. Especially when it comes to asking for nerfs. You have to account for skills. And class mechanics.
You can’t just craft a sustain value and base balance on that.
Also reapers and chrono didn’t exist during bunker guardian Era. Neither did the current spike damage
Rev was op due to resistance spam. Not the sustain. And I like how you kept auramancers out of your calculator
This situation is similar to sitting in a node while the election meteor showers. Or not bringing stability and getting hit with a full FH trap combo..
These skills hit hard bit are highly telegraphed and have a clear counterparts.
With CoR you have to
- side step out of the way if long range
- get into melee range to avoid the dmg spike
You guys did the same thing in GW1 and it worked fine. I don’t understand why the same approach is not being taken here as well.
The latest example being the nerf to Mallyx which is very reasonable in sPVP but complete TRASHES the legend in PVE. The whole point of even using+traiting mallyx was to control the condi spam on lvl 70+ fractals.
Now it will just be a boring passive 10% stat boost when you are stacked on quickness and shiro is redundant. No one will ever bother with the corruption trait, or the legend itself in 99% of scenarios.
Please Anet, PVE balance is completely different from the sPVP one. Nerfing 1 OP class in sPVP will generally completely nerfs it in PVE, and vice versa. with splitting skills you suddenly get a lot more room to play around with balance.
Please consider splitting skills/traits for the upcoming January iteration
“State of the guardian in PvE?”
Trash tier. Right up there with thief
Can’t heal, druid is wayyyyy better. there isn’t even a contest
below average DPS. I don’t need to elaborate this one. If you aren’t convinced yet, chances are you never played any other class beside guard.
Mediocre support. chrono, herald, warrior, tempest is actually better.
Every guard main rerolled in my guilds, or transferred his ascended gear to other soldier profs. no point in being part of the sinking ship
The white knights will tell you guardians are in a good spot however.
On a side note, raids aren’t meant to be pugged in the first place.
I know that, nor would i even bother attempt to pug Gorseval at this point. But we need a specific way to keep track of performance.
People tell you they are following their performance flawlessly and the next thing you know is they link you 3 knight accessories a little bit later…
…are boring and uninteresting. You CANNOT have such tight timers and no way to measure performance. Games like WoW can get away with a DPS race because damage meters were readily available to check everyone’s performance during each attempt.
Right now you can wipe 20 times, on the same different spot and still not know whether you made a mistake, or your friend did, or someone else is under-performance.
PLEASE Anet, 1 of the following needs to happen.
- Lower boss health
- Make the DPS checks more lax
- Introduce a damage meter, or some way to track player performance.
I cannot honestly see people willing to wipe on Gorseval for hours on end, after the next couple of week when the inovation feeling is no longer there. Right now there is literally 0 reason to attempt this in semi-casual guild settings, such less in a pug. I understand that these type of encounters aren’t supposed to be puggable, but at this point, i don’t even feel motivated to run them with half my guild mates because of the above reasons.
Whenever i try to join a group being advertised on LFG it says i have joined too many parties.
This happens at any point and i haven’t been able to use the LFG system in 2 days now.
Manually joining someone works fine. However. Please help
Until we see some ESL in action, there is no point in gutting 4 classes because players are too lazy to change their approach.
I have crushed and been crushed by DH, chrono, reaper scrapper tempest and even Berserker. Player skill plays a HUGE part in this.
Crying for nerfs or buffs is silly
Hot is 2 weeks old. Most of the current pvp meta involves elite specs and its brand new.
People need to learn their classes, develop strats and counter strats. That take time.
Right now people die to chronos, dh, Reapers twice in a row and run and qq on forums. This is ridiculous.
Anet, it’s way too early for buffs and nerfs. Let the meta settle.
Bad players – If they can’t beat a spec or class in 2 tries they come to the forums and scream nerf. I have yet to see a single reasonable nerf request backed by facts. Most of the time its bad players who stand in traps or can’t dodge or attack when they shouldn’kittens pathetic to see someone walk over Test of Faith (dragon hunter trap) several times and complained he got killed in seconds. Bonus points if he is thief.
F2P – They are equally to blame for all the “nerf x elite spec” that has been going on since the launch of HoT. And on top of it all, most of their experience is limited to since when the game went live, yet they make up the loudest bunch by far.
The sad thing is that all this nonsense led to knee jerk nerfs within THREE DAYS of HoT lunch. there is absolutely NO REASON to nerf a class without proper testing to begin with. Just before bad players are crying about it does not make it right.
Stop caving it to pressure please Anet. A loud minority should not be a reason to ruin game balance
I don’t know if you should bash the Rev just because they have a heavy boon focus if they spec Glint. They don’t have Aegis, they have less gameplay-involved defense, and it’s more about providing protection, regen and blinds if so. And they can’t spec into everything at once. but they’re versatile for sure. Which i also feel a Guardian is, just it’s different. For instance Guardian is definitely better at providing heals in an off-role manner, you have to go Ventari and nerf everything else as a Rev (except a minor heal on staff and an ok one on shield), since your predefined utility is changed.
Anyway my point is that I wouldn’t blame revenant for stealing Guardian thunder, I think if so there is more changes within guardian that could be done.
Which is what we have been saying…well some of us anyways.
Some guardian mechanics need to be updated. or at least some traits/abilities.
We have been screaming our lungs out to change signets and spirit weapons, but nop
I dare not imagine they might update core F1-F3 skills to make em worth using if not specced in virtues
revenants are a better version of medi guard .
a waaaaay better version .
also it feels more supportive then a guard thx to glint .ah screw this. so only i feel like revenant is better in almost everything ? almost
just my opinion and how i feel after fully unlocked it and played it for days in every single gamemode.
Core guard feels outdated !
Core guardian has never received any significant changes for a long time now. even with the Summer trait changes the only good thing it received was the merge of the meditations traits.
It took them 3 years to simply fix shield
What do you expect?
Signets are still crap. Spirit weapons have been crap for the last 2 and something years now.
And you have people like Ghotistyx.6942 claiming guardians are fine. Frankly i have no idea if anyone bothers reading his comments anymore because its always “X is fine, guardian is in a good spot”
In my opinion, before you can change the class, you gotta bring everyone on the same mindset
If you think a dragonhunter is “great” give a reaper, scrapper, or herald a try. You will soon change your opinion
Projectile destruction 6 sec duration on 12 sec cooldown. I think it’s superior to our WOR
I would have to agree that core guardian feels better in core pve. There is absolutely no reason to use longbow, or even lol traps.
You would only get dragon hunter for max paper dps.
And DH bunker is a kittening joke now that burst is through the roof. Face a zener reaper and then tell me how good bunker guard ie
I feel Guardian Virtues design is still a legacy of GW2 release combat that have yet to catch up with GW2’s combat developments over the past years. On a whole part of the traited virtue bonuses need to be made baseline. What I would look at is:
- Inspired Virtue Baseline.
- VoR removes 1 condition Baseline (Absolute Resolution adds 2 additional removals to bring it back up to 3 in total).
- VoR & VoC CDs reduced to VoR 45 sec & VoC 50 sec (Please remove the elite feeling CDs & these will still have longer Cds the DH virtues).
Get the base virtues in a good position & then balance traits around these base virtues. Make them wanted untraited & give them the WOW factor when traited.
No, the current virtue traits need to be made baseline, at least for the user. Virtue traits can expand the guardian virtues to affect other players and add additional functionality.
A guardian virtues should be as important as a mesmer shatters, or warrior/necro F1 skills.
Most classes got 2 to 3 beta weekends (public anyway) – Druid got one. We all know it isn’t going to be balanced in any way shape or form. The only question is if it will be on the positive side that makes it OP or the negative side which gives Arena Net time to review data and adjust.
My money is on the OP/Busted June 23rd type broke…
In all of the discussion not much has been talked about with regards to the core game. I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s not large chances regarding core profession balance wise. It’s not something that would be talked much about as it’s not new coming from HoTs. It’s a large part we’re all interested in & would be great to know but you don’t typically talk about core balance with regard to an expansion.
Guess all that’s left is waiting to see patch notes on release.
By now all my money is on core changes to improve party support outside of stability and reflect bots.
I have already given up on DH as a serious spec I raids and spvp. All they will do at this point is try to band aid the dmg by changing numbers when it fact the whole class mechanic is garbage
Agreed.
Stability is a menace and should be removed on all classes. If necessary we could have a new system where in order to get stability, you must type in the chatbox: ‘Stability plz 123’. This would allow fast typers and psychics to be rewarded for their superior intellect and reflexes whilst punishing morons, muggles and people with bad keyboard skills.
Stunbreaks should also be removed. If people want to avoid stuns they should have to dodge. There’s no sense in having these buttons that get you off scott-free. We should have an increased number of stuns and other control effects on all professions. None of these should be passive effects. This will promote the ideal of saving your dodges meaning anyone who wastes them on evading dps attacks should be punished as they are obviously idiots.
We should remove all passive traits and replace them with active skills of your choice. This would increase build diversity and send those filthy, disgusting casuals straight back to hell. Those imbeciles should never be able to keep up with a game that’s meant for champions.
I’m with you, brother.
Sounds like you main a hammer warrior. Else you wouldn’t want stability removed..lol
I did not have the opportunity to play myself, no.
Then you probably shouldn’t be commenting or rebutting my argument.
There’s plenty of opportunity for Guardians to carve a niche. Doom saying well get you nowhere.
I don’t recall Guardians ever really being known for their burst healing. Most of what they do is heal over time.
Guardians can bring lots of Burning which is safer than most power options. Also, Aegis is still going to prevent damage, and you can trait it for many effects. You can tank easily with AH and symbols/shouts. This AH build van easily be a good self sustaining tank with different kinds of options depending on content. This hybrid build provides tons of damage and can do so safely from range. Either could easily be welcome in a raid.
Did you try the raid during BWE3?
Aegis, reflection/barriers, and allied burst healing, off the top of my head. I haven’t actually played a raid yet though, so I can’t comment with surety.
Aegis: I already went over it. Instead of getting hit once every 2-3 sec like vs archdiviner it would be kittens every 1. Boss also was hitting like a wet noodle, so any class would face tank him. The problem was preventing AoE 1 shots by standing in select areas and by avoiding the orbs which could hit for like 1-2k
Reflect/barrier: Not needed. Besides, Rev is better at blocking projectiles as its built into hammer, 6 sec duration, 12 sec cooldown.
Allied burst healing: Druid surpassed the guardian in heal by about 10x, i am not even kidding. A single druid would keep the whole raid up. There is a reason they are changing druid healing coefficients a little bit.
Before playing the raid, i was thinking we would have to stack guardians/eles. But after playing it i can tell you will need
Chronos: Acclarity is HUUGE
Engie/scrapper: Good DPS and Condi which is a MUST for raids.
Druids: No explanation needed. A druid with 0 healing power would heal better than a full cleric guard and also provide SUPERIOR DPS to any cleric classes
Herald: Pulsing might, fury, prot, regen, reflects. superior single target DPS due to shiry swiftness and 50% INCREASED BOON DURATION AURA
Reaper: Good melee DPS and tankability in 1. Can soak hits nicely. Once boss hits 50%, gravedigger pushes DPS above any class.
+/- Tempest: Does more of what the ele already offers. Not a must but a good addition.
As someone who tried the raid on the last BWE i can pretty much confirm your fears and my reasons for most likely rerolling.
Right now there is absolutely NOTHING a guardian brings that makes him a desirable raid member.
But but but Aegis!
True, HOWEVER, from what i experienced last raid, all 1 shots were linked to raid mechanics and could not be mitigated, only prevented through fulfilling certain conditions. Like having 4 people standing in 1 spot would prevent the AoE, otherwise its a party wipe.
Bosses had MULTIPLE sources of damage, and this is probably the most important factor that throws aegis out of the window. Encounters involved facing 3 minibosses at the same time, or having pulsing damage from multiple sources (orbs). Damage did not come on single slow hits, like say Archdiviner.
Midway through the raid i actually started to feel worthless and really wondered why i was on a guardian instead of something with more utility, healing, or support
Protection together with aegis might as well have not been there. All it mattered was our druid who topped everyone up like no tomorrow. Reflects were also not an issue at all.
Now lets compare it with chronos that have HUUUUUUGE utility through aclarity and you start seeing how pathetic the guardian is right now.
Reapers are twice as tanky and provide superior DPS ESPECIALLY with gravedigger spam once boss drops below 50.
Really guys…i didn’t think it would be this bad untill i tried raid.
Maybe i don’t know how to play guardian after 4k hours on one…
I can’t wait to get that Zealot amulet (assuming it happens), it’ll open up so many DPS/Support builds.
You pretty much leave yourself open to burst
I really don’t see how healing power will be able to give us enough sustain to face something scary like a reaper, scrapper or chrono.
You know, in a sarcastic attempt i was going over in my head what utility set they could give us to rival traps in lack of usefulness and down right being bad, and after looking at every single profession, i could not find any!
So basically ANYTHING they would give us will be an upgrade over traps.
This is kinda funny because one of your traps was Fragment of Faith…most likely responsible for downing 2-3 people at once.
basically it comes down to abusing a bug that has already been fixed.
Yet because you don’t necessarily explain that, there are bound to be idiots coming in telling us how Traps are fine, DH are fine and that our complains are totally uncalled for.
Please do me a favor and change the title or put a note saying you are using pre-fix bugged mechanics, thanks
In all fairness to Karl, there has been a plethora of items asked by the Guardian community. Spirit Weapons were definitely lower priority than:
- Bow and its skillset changes
- Peels via F3 and its mechanic changes
- Burn guard/condi guard,
- Shield (omg shield! <3),
- Trap’s boons/stunbreaker/stability/dmg buffs
- DH self condi cleanse trait (although bugged)
- F3 self blocks for DH survivability
- An awesome F1 pull thingy to synergize trap playstyles – traps may actually be viable in high tier TPvP play.
tl;dr: Crappy DH changes clogged the pipeline so there were less changes (that people have been asking for for years) to the main guardian profession.
When I see it this way, I hate DH even more than I did before.
Glad to know others can see through all the bullkitten
They have had 2 years to fix spirit weapons, yet gyros have been play tested for 2 days and are changed BEFORE spirit weapons., even though they are the same mechanic.
So stop being a fan Boi for a min and use your brains. All we are asking is for this change to be applied to spirit weapons as well
Will simply make a mediocre roamer at best good at killing nubs in t7 servers
Keep in mind fixing QoL issues for a new profession is not on the same plane as fixing QoL issues for an established profession. Like it or not the game works, and that means those fixes would be nice but they aren’t make or break issues or in the new-and-shiny spotlight. Let the various kid brothers do their job luring in new players. If the Dev presence dries up again after showing that they can manage to get work done while dropping in every other week or so, THEN I’ll be right there handing out torches and pitchforks.
In the meantime I look at my favorite trait in the game — Battle Presence — and have zero doubt I can build a Guardian that will be highly sought after in Raids. That we haven’t stretched our healing muscles in a while doesn’t mean we don’t already have tools to be competitive.
Scrapper is not a new profession, it’s still the engeneer. This is why I’m kittened at all this ineptitude towards guardian

Eidolon? Check
Fractal Axe? Check
Fractal Spear? Check
Fractal Sword? Nope.I really do wish they’d give us the Eternal Blade Sword skin from the living story episode. :\
I’m going to rip my Warrior’s gears directly and attach them on my new Revenant
I do need to make Ascended shield and axe though :/
All my Guardian gear is going directly to the rev, won’t even need to change sigils. Gonna be awesome

Sunrise, and the two kitten years it took RNG to give me Dawn.
Condi Clears and heals pouring out of every button push
So the end finally comes to my Guardian of 3 years… My one and Only lv 80 Toon.

Don’t worry bro and welcome to guardian 2.0
Ofc we won’t receive any of these changes.
No one gives a kitten about core guardians at this point.
We are in a “good spot” remember?
“Gyros now start their cooldown upon summon rather than upon gyro death.”
Guardians have been asking for this change for HOW LONG now? 2 years maybe? more
Thanks
This is why dear ladies and gents guardian is a sinking ship and i have personally lost ALL HOPE for this class
(edited by Hunter.4783)
Cuz I love the class that much
So you think you’ll really switch then? Or will you go back after a week?
Cause I wonder myself if I’ll go back (to ele) as its just psychological in nature to like what’s new and shiny but end up going back to old routines.
If I switch I’m not going back. Will transfer all my ascended sets to my new girl and leave my guard sitting naked in a corner.
This is why it’s so kitten me and why I’m upset about it (1st world problems I know)
seems like all guards are switching lol
Oh yeah. Just to give you some idea, I have over 4k hours on my guard, and if a guy like me is switching over, things are REALLY bad.
looks over posting history holy crap. All you’ve done for I don’t know how long is complain guards suck. I clicked 5 pages back, over a year ago, and you were complaining about how bad guards were compared to wars.
At a certain point it no longer becomes worth your energy…

I suggest you hop aboard the Rev train while you still can. We have cried our lungs out on spirit weapons virtues and shield for years now. I honestly don’t expect anything else major to change now until a balance patch
Hrm, lets see… Guardian forums front page has exactly one red post wherein Karl solicits feedback and then disappears… Rev forums front page has 5 active red posts wherein Roy excitedly discusses ideas and discusses changes to the class. Yep, I guess you are right.
Of course they are. Rev is the front line of HoT, they want the Rev to be absolutely awesome and so far it looks and plays just as good.
I’m absolutely estatic with the changes we’ve gotten. It’s only a matter of whether or not Guard will survive the Power creep.
Its about selling the expansion content. Same reason why they are now reducing Gold rewards from dungeons.
They want you to feel the NEED to get the expansion. There is no reason to make base guardian abilities better, when you can focus on expansion classes/elites in terms of making money.
Hence why im contemplating quitting a class with over 4k hours under my belt.
You are absolutely right, base guardian abilities will NEVER see an improvement for a year or so. A best Anet will try to improve the dragonhunter, which is bound to remain the worst elite spec in the game.
Guardians already are behind the power creep, and even more so now that our elite is complete crap. The stronger other elite specs get, the farther behind we fall.
I certainly hope the Devs can see that with the not infrequent Spirit Weapon threads popping up on this forum, there is most certainly a serious desire to see this utility rectified.
I am absolutely one of those players who first fell in love with the Guardian because of the image posted by the OP. It’s such an evocative piece of art and really hinted at the Guardian being something significantly different than the typical Paladin class featured in many MMOs. It was for this reason I chose the Guardian all the way back in the original GW2 betas and have kept playing it since, blindly hoping for an update that would one day make Spirit Weapons usable again.
If I’m being honest, this is the reason I was so initially bitter about the Dragonhunter; I didn’t feel like the Guardian deserved another underutilized utility type like Traps. I’ve since gotten more on board with the DH (although it’s certainly not perfect), but if there was one hope (and really one main reason) why I keep clinging to this profession (and maybe even GW2 at all) is that I still have a very small, nearly extinguished flicker of hope that they’ll one day give us the Guardian they promised.
