I don’t think there is much to say.

We are the only class without a condi spec trying to cut it in this condi meta….and failing miserably

We used to counter condi specs, but not anymore
SPVP is severely nerfed. We can no longer fight on point or in team fights
Pve we have pathetic dps and no real purpose or reason to bring in a raid. For the first time since this patch I no longer felt compelled to play a guard in raid anymore (I have 460 LI so I raid regularly )
DH was massively nerfed in wvw as well. Making long bow worthless and forcing me off virtues

This patch is just said. It pushed our class off 2 game modes and it DID NOT FIZ any prevalent problems, like spirit weapons

The title pretty much sums it all. I’ve always wondered which was the niche of the guardian in pvp. I know that it can be a 1v1 bruiser and that played perfectly is a tough adversary but what does it offer now (season 5)?

Let’s childishly analyze all classes and their job and why they would be good to be taken into pvp.

Thief
- High mobility, stealth and high power dps spikes
Mesmer
- Considerable mobility, huge condi spikes, moa (4v5 for 6 seconds)
Warrior
- Condi bash, incredible survivability (a.k.a. a lot of inmune time) great for mid fights and single target focusing
Necromancer
- Condi spam, boon corrupt, great health pool but no damage mitigation
Engineer
- Great projectile hate, mass invis, AoE cc (thunderclap?), a lot of damage mitigation and boon share
Druid
- Heals, condi cleanse, bunkerish, cc depending on pet
Ele
- Healbot (sadly), boon share
Revenant
- Be all and do all (before patch of course, now i don’t know, they disappeared a.k.a nerfed to oblivion)

Now what would the guardian be.
My impression is that the guard abruptly went from huge power spike damages (pre HoT and HoT release) to permanent sustained damage (traps doing no damage unless you properly combo, offering almost no CC but having symbols in all weapons).

Before the traps changed daze for slow I felt my job was to create oportunities while CCing the whole enemy team, thus allowing resses/stomps. Now that they slow; and slow doesn’t affect stomping/ressing I feel that niche is gone.
In terms of raw party damage a lot of classes can deal considerably more AoE damage and offer more CC so WHY would i be there. Also the lack of runes choices I can take (traveler to become a fast slug instead of a slug) don’t offer much diversity either.

In my opinion the guardian has become a sort of “balanced all round”, doesn’t do much spiky damage anymore and beats the enemy by tiring them, has a considerable amount of defensive capabilities yet fails to offer something in high level pvp.
Maybe the damage is a direct correlation to the weapons’ skill. I feel atm no weapon per se has the capabilities to deal great damages as for example mesmer gs4 + 3 or as the longbow 2 used to hit (for example)

If I were to chose between a guardian and an engi while going against competent players I’d choose the engi just because I fail to see what the guardian could offer than the engi could not.

What do you guys feel about this, what are your opinions, any hints or insight as to where the guardian belongs?

Guardians offer nothing unique to organized play

A guardian cannot bunker, cannot roam better than a thief or Mesmer, cannot heal or sustain like an ele and druid

Whats worse is they go down VERY fast when focused. its funny how quickly a thief or warrior can nuke down a guardian.

If your Shelter or F2/F3 is interrupted = dead guardian, period.

Thief jumping from behind = dead guardian.

F2 is actually more of a 50/50 since half the time I go down midflight when focused.

All in all, the guard is great for stomping newbs but when it comes to competent players they are average

ESL and progame lvl = guardian is worthless

You guys are forgetting there’s no power dmg on deadshot… that’s a massive dps drop

This needs to be emphasized MUCH MUCH more.

We do not have a burn on crit trait, therefore all that precision for a burn guardian without any power is WORTHLESS.

Carrion will remain top choice and will be stronger than ever because of the boosted duration to F1 procs

Its funny because no one commended on the new rune, which I think is a blessing to the condi guardian. movement speed has always been an issue for burn guard, and this new runeset deals with just that.

A smoldering sigil + geomancy or doom takes care of cover condi + burn duration for a little bit. But that movement speed is crucial to catch up to other roamers or to simply not be deadweight to the team.

The ability to do dmg has never been an issue with the burn guardian. but the lack of sustain has.

I would like to start by stating that I am a guardian main followed by necro and ele as my other top played classes in sPVP.

As of this latest patch (and a bit during the prev one) necro has become the laughing stop of sPVP.

I cannot imagine how a class can be allowed to fall in such a state and nothing to be done about it.

Lets see where the necro stands:

- Primary target in every single game
- No blocks/evades/dmg mitigation abilities
- No valid escape (wyrm teleport is easily countered and highly positional and precast dependent. If you get caught in the open while transitioning between nodes, you are dead, end of story.
- Power necro is too slow/telegraphed to be effective
- Condi necro has been nerfed to oblivion to offer any real challenge to most classes,
- Poor in 1v1. Warriors, thieves, mesmers and guardians completely trash it
- Poor in team fights (primary target with 0 party support features)

Anet, you need to decide what you want to do with the necromancer. The necro needs at least 1 viable spec, whether that’s condi or power.

Condi necro is probably the safest bet to improve as it fills a better niche and more thematic

Scrappers are the true problem of sPVP

If the DH is a nub stomper and the nightmare of every single cub who just picked up sPVP, scrappers are the problems of upper SPVP.

It is hilarious how no one complains about them while the forums are flooded with nerf DH/Rev Posts

The amount of sustain, damage, and mitigation this class has is ridiculous.

Its the only class with near 100% stability.

The class is virtually unkillable in 1v1 or 2v2 settings. It has a safe stomp as well as complete invulnerability both passively and on demand, which combined with high sustain means that it cannot die to burst, or sustained DPS>

I do not understand how this class has been flying under the radar for this long. The moment you see 2 scrappers on the enemy team you know you are in for a rough ride. They completely and utterly shame guards/revs/warriors and pretty much any other meta classes.

You cannot honestly tell me this class is balanced right now. If anything, they need another nerf to sustain, OR a nerf to their damage.

1 day into the patch and there are already people who are qQing about dh. This time though it’s different.

Because the OP knows that if he dies to DH traps is most definitely his fault he saw says that his TEAMMATES are the ones who mess up and die.

So perhaps instead of nerfing the class because your team (and yourself ) can’t find the dodge key perhaps they need to learn proper pvp play?

Half the Guardian skills and traits are outdated. They need to be changed more than simply buffed.

I play warrior, and can deal with Engi and eles fine, as long as they are not together, if they are it’s a struggle to win that fight 2 vs 1. I’ve seen quite a few good DH’s this season, but I’ve see more bad than good, and I mean really bad. If you have more than one DH on your team chances are you’ve lost the match.

DH is arguably the easiest class to play. If the majority of DH you see are bad chances are it’s not solely due to player skill

Now compare that to a scapper or necro which can just face mash buttons and still do damage to opposite team. Have you seen people go and say: “wow every necro or ele I run into are bad! But i have seen some good ones!”

Now consider that scrapper and necro by design are favoured point holders, then take a DH which is not…who will die first in the middle of the team fight?….Ofc the DH

And now the question: why the hell a DH is in the middle of the team fight?

DH is not about rushing mid, spam all traps and die. Over 90% of Dh I see play in this order:

1) Hunter’s Ward
2) Rush mid
3) Spamm all traps
4) Use shield of courage, wings of justice in rapid succession as they quickly go low
5) Die easily if allies don’t save their kitten s

DH is a freaking ranged bruiser with decent self-sustain… it cannot be played like a stable point holder. Scrapper and necro dmg is all mele at 80-90%

People on this forum like to think all professions are strong except the one they play, the reality is there is a skill cap to everything

Spvp is not a death match. It’s conquest.

You just said dh can’t hold points and dh can’t fight at mid. So then my friend WHAT CAN A DH DO?

Ranged bruiser is fine in WvW roaming or in a team death match but fails awfully in conquest mode. Add in the fact that dh have no ,mobility and you start seeing a problem. Right now dh are behind both in ability to hold points, and in roaming.

Hence why I’m saying DH are trash tier in diamond and above

As someone who lost a game to 4 guardians earlier today because my team literally argued against not standing in their traps? I’ve spent my day trying to find other games to play full-time.

I’ve tried my best to enjoy PvP, and despite enjoying most of the rest of the game, I just can’t get past the state of PvP.

4 guardians? Even I know you dodge thru the traps (which 95% of the time will be centered on point) or send pets/minions to trigger them, then destroy guard while all the toys are on cooldown.

This is why Anet does not take forum posts seriously. I’d they listened to the players guardians would be deleted from the game and rangera would be 1 shotting everything from 1200000 yards range

It probably won’t be available until after LS3 release.

So hold your kittening horses.

Totally true. I have sine incredible good guards, that swap weapons well depending on situation and don´t use dragons maw. But if you try to run some meta in competative PvP you are outplayed … My daugther tried DH, she is far from good, but she goes with hammer and Hunters fortification not knockback and it works quite well. She runs Valor/honour/DH going melee most of the time and Judges intervention is great here .-)

I tried the same traits a few days ago with Mace/Focus and Mender’s Amulet, it feels pretty solid as long as you rotate your skills right and don’t get interrupted too much. Difference is I don’t melee much but rather kite from a distance. The M/F is a defensive tool if enemy reaches me in melee.

I can kill people with cleric amulet in unranked.

Now plz post a video if you trying to kill anyone running mender gear in ranked. Now add in a cleric ele to the other team. Plz post a video doing that in diamond and above

The problem is dh is considered viable in unranked and amber (hence the mace focus and menders) nut are complete trash in diamond and above

According to a post of the developers regarding the amount of LI per Armor Piece, 25 LI are required for each piece. That is 150 LI per armour. And that is at least according to my opinion FAR too much!
My Request is:
Please lower the amount of LI to 15 per armour piece or give us the possibility to require more LI per week.
My suggestion is based on the following Argumentation:
If you want to create all Sets of Legendary armour you need 450 LI which is 50 weeks of successfully defeating each Raid boss a week!
I like how the Legendary Fractal Backpack was introduced into the game and even the time gated Research Journals were ok for me.
6 weeks until you get a reward seemed a reasonable amount of time.
However hiding the armour behind at least 3-4 months of time gated Content is just a bad decision.
What if I have much time in a week for Gaming but in another week I have no time at all?
The game punishes me for not playing each week my weekly Raids which is a bad gamification desicision.
I do understand that ArenaNet needs daily/weekly Content that at least a part of the player Base is “forced” to play however only playing for the sake of getting a daily/weekly reward is not the enjoyable gaming experience we were promised already in the first Manifest of ArenaNet in 2010.
No grinding! No “Hey I swung that Sword again!”

And here we are forced to Grind, forced to play daily/weekly because the rewards are only available at that point in time and to be honest doing most of what we do is because of the sake of time gated rewards.

So please dear ArenaNet keep your promise that you have given us many times already and change the game from grinding to fun! ????

Absolutely not!

A full set of legendary armor is the most prestigious feat in this game as stated by Anet and would only be logical to take some time to complete. It is the true epitome of end game.

Raids are already extremely accessible and by the time they release the complete armor set everyone will have over 200 of Li.

Some of my guilds have over 120 already.

Remember that the legendary armor is not available YET. and probably won’t be do until either more raids or living story season 3 is released.

More so. You cannot hope to shell 400 g to buy a wing clear from some guilds and be rewarded with legendary armor

Xera boss fight is jaw dropping the first time you attempt her.

I am seriously impressed by your hard work.

Keep it up!

Except I heard new raiders still can’t find groups to raid with. Thus only fun for a very limited # of players in game.

a) the content is not going anywhere. It is permanent.

b) this is wing 3. It would make sense for new raiders to start in wing 1 and make their way up. It’s only logical

c) plenty of guilds do teaching runs. Also tons of video guides up already. Take 5 min to watch 1. Accessibility is much much more generous than other games where you first have to farm a full set of gear from previous wings before attempting the new one.

d) the content is amazing. Dont be negative. Think of it as having something to look forward to

The wings were to be available to anyone. I’ve worked harder for them than most and therefore, I do deserve them.

In addition, the point of this thread is that the matchmaking is setting me ( and many others ) deliberately to lose. Hence, my atrocious record.

-edit- OK I simply can’t play anymore.. having started yesterday evening. To show that the issue is not me but is matchmaking :

Note, I’m second in personal score. I did over 1/2 million in damage. I provided my teammates 325,000 + in healing, 361 boons and removed 349 conditions. I have heard ESL pros talk about 500,000 damage as a good number. No, the issue here is not me.

It’d not just damage and healing that matter you can break 1 million dmg or healing but if your rotation is bad and you get outplayed and out capped in home and far you are going to lose.

1m damage tells me you really were stalemate in mid while probably out rotated elsewhere. If they are running 2x ele or ele and druid not even 2m damage will matter if it’s too spread out.

This game actually has very complex pvp mechanics as in its not just heal and dps. That is why conquest id superior to a death match in general.

At the end of the day I cam tell you that a sub 20% win rate is due to a learn to play issue rather than match making being bad. For reference. Im in tier 4 diamond with 115 games played and 82 games won. Played ele necro dh and rev

I have fulfilled all but one requirement for the wings. At only 377 games this season, I’ve taken it relatively easy it is true.

My current 22.3% Win rate is up from a low approaching 18%. That took a great deal of effort.

I’ve put in near employement hours in bursts into GW2 PvP during 3 seasons. In the course of it I’ve learned to have some basic ability in two new professions.

Still, the chances are rather slim to non existent that I can pass 4 divisions in the next 1 1/2 seasons with the matchmaking consistently putting me on the side scheduled to lose.

I’m hardly a casual player. It’s time to acknowledge that the wings really weren’t for “everyone” and that the matchmaking needs a conceptual change.

No offense bro bUT that record is quite bad.

You have less than a 30% win rate. Do you honestly think you deserve a legendary back piece with not even a 30% win rate?

My experience with in diamond and legend tier is that guardians are free food currently.

They can’t hold points. A scrapper warrior and necros will eat them alive. Even thif now is 50 50.

They can’t do dmg. Guardian is a 1 trick pony. Once traps are used you only have true shot which does about 2k on most targets. Assuming it doesn’t get dodged or reflected by the countless reflects

Easily countered. Ele scrapper pretty much wipe the floor with guards or easily negate any kind of threat a DH poses. Air focus 4. Then 2x magnetic aura and the DH is useless for the next 20 sec.

I cheer whenever I see a DH on the opposite team. I know the match is pretty much won

@Hunter, If you’re playing ranked, don’t play Guard / DH. People will give you grief and unfortunately they’re justified. DG is in a pretty bad place right now. I stick to unranked mostly because I play whatever I have fun playing. I don’t care about the back piece because I only play a few different classes and have no interest getting X amount of wins on all 9 classes. DH will shine again, just not right now.

I never play DH/guard in ranked. I swapped to ele/rev/necro/ just like most other guardian mains.

Its sad to see a class with such potential slowly being reduced to garbage from lack of focus and while being called as “being in a good spot”

last week I ran into a guardian which consistently wiped the floor with me 1 v 1. I’d thought that I was a hard counter, used my usual tricks…. there’s at least one guy out there who’s ahead of the game on the DH front. I still haven’t worked out how he beat me over and over.

Most DH’s don’t present a problem, this guy was worlds ahead of me. So I believe there is untapped potential in the class for some.

Sounds like you got hugely outplayed mate.

Notice how you said last week and not…every day.

That tells you that unless there is a considerable skill difference, the DH is toast.

I see there every single match up with my ele, or necro. Most DH are complete garbage, but that’s not because I am better. In fact, I’m a complete nub in ele yet the class carried me to diamond with like a 80% win rate, simply because every single game that I faced a DH or 2, I already knew how it was going to end.

I too have been killed by DH…probably like twice in my last 2 weeks. Now compare that to every single mace/shield war that are a nightmare…

Seen quite a few support/bunker dh, and they are quite revoltingly endurable with their blocks.

So, maybe you are just running the wrong build.

No way, a bunker DH is a joke. Every “active block” is in such a long cooldown and the lack of other ways of damage mitigation means the DH “tank” melts sooner than even a squishy DPS rev.

A thief, especially a perma evade one, as a much better survivability than even a tank DH. Simply because of its ability to get away. DHs are sitting ducks, they cannot do dmg, they cannot tank, they cannot get away.

Just got out of some spvp, nothing but guardians.

1 game had 5/10 players as guardians, next had 4/5 of my opponents all guardians, then another 2 games had 3/5 of the opposing players as guardians.

They are super popular right now, so they can’t be that bad.

You should probably come out of amber division.

DH is fine. Enough players have reached legendary already just playing DH and purely solo-queuing.

I am a guard main with over 4k hours into it.

I gave up on guard with sPVP solo queue and switched to necro/ele/rev

I can’t tell you how happy I am when I see a DH on the other team. especially when I’m on my ele. I know its going to be a walk in the park.

DH/guard is extremely weak right now. and even more so is hard countered by all the meta classes. Which makes the situation 2x worse.

I know people have hit legendary with DH, but a lot more have hit legendary with ele and necro. Doesn’t mean ele doesn’t need a nerf or DH a buff

Eles hardcounter or render DHs useless
Scrapper hard counter and completely butcher DH on point
Revs might as well dance in circles around the DH

And these are all meta classes and PRESENT IN EVERY SINGLE game mode.

In addition to that, Condi warrior puts the guardian to shame in both melee and range.

I can’t believe how far the guardian has fallen. Players are actually getting flamed for rolling with a guardian as they are a detrimental to their team.

I really love the class, but for PvP…ugh.

If anyone is playing it competitively I’m all ears as to what you’re doing.

I personally love having to face DH on the other team. Its a free win. You focus DHs and they melt.

Their “active” defense is a mess. You focus a DH, they die before they land from their F2

I have noticed that I can easily kill nearly all rangers, when I see one on the enemy team I feel great because its almost a guaranteed free kill. Of course there are some very talented players who are good at getting away or kiting, but in 100 games I might see 2 of those.

In contrast it seems either the other classes are very strong or are only played by very skilled players. With most of the other classes its more like out of 100 games I might see 2-5 players that seem to be weak and the rest are either unkillable (condi warrior, some ele builds, and most engis) or at the least a challenge.

Weakest class is guardian DH. Get your facts strait. As a ranger druid you can facets a guard while dancing and letting your pet solo them

Negative . DH is trash tier. Weakest class by far. If anything they need all traps to be insta cast and they still would remain trash tier.

If guard/dh is so bad off, why am I seeing teams consistently stack with 2-4 DH and win? In my opinion Pro League is pretty much irrelevant to day-to-day PvP.

Once you come out of amber division you start seeing a lot less guardians. Amber players have a tendency to sit in traps and not even know there is a dodge mechanic

Please open your eyes Anet. This class has been in a sad state for a bit now and this just proves it.

I won’t go over the flaws of the class because there have been countless threads on those and clearly you devs don’t listen to us players.

But at least please take into consideration hard facts

and my interest in raiding has now dropped off the bottom of the scale. thanks at least for the heads up… so i can stop worrying about bothering.

Raiding is END GAME PVE content. You cannot hope to simply rush to 80 and be able to walk into the THIRD raid wing casually.

There must always be a learning process in PVE, and that starts with hitting 80, finishing HoT storylines, Finishing HoT masteries THEN joining and attempting raids.

It literally takes you 2-3 days to get enough XP and mastery points to complete gliding mastery. Your complaining is unreasonable

Dragonhunter is garbage right now.

I disagree, the skill cap on the class has def being increased. There is some great DH out there, especially the trappers you can’t (as a power warrior) focus them… because they always stealth away. As a power warrior, i rathe duel a rev/ engi/ thief/ ranger/ ele than a DH.

This so much. Just because ur class isn’t easy to play anymore and actually requires you to think doesn’t mean it’s bad. Learn to adapt.

How exactly have the skill cap changed when the only changes that happened were damage NERFS.

No average player will ever get hit or stand in Long bow #4 and longbow #3 does insignificant damage. No class mechanics changed at all.

How about you show us how effective DH can be in pro league, or give us hints/a new build to back up your claim.

Right now i can tell you whenever i see an ele and scrapper in the other team i immediately switch into something else, because the DH is countered that hard by both those classes which are both META right now

At best the DH has a slight advantage over thief right now, and that is no longer the case even but is hard countered by the current meta which performing mediocre in every aspect of the game:

No CC (has been nerfed to hell)
No Damage (nerfed)
No movement speed (the ONLY class w/o a movement speed debuff)
Cannot hold points
Cannot decap

Dragonhunter is garbage right now.

2k damage on Trueshot is a joke…vs classes running viper or other non toughness gear.

Dear Anet, how is the dragonhunter supposed to survive in this spam fest and CC heavy environment. The dragonhunter has absolutely the worst survivability right now with close to no pressure, nerfed burst and pretty much 0 party support.

The only useful ability, F3, is on such a hefty cooldown that it can very well make no difference in a team fight dragging more than 10 seconds.

Dragonhunter lacks:

- Pressure : once you get off that lovely #2 + trap combo burst which will most likely be evaded you are left with bow attacks which tickle and no CC. Not to mention scrappers and eles are bathing in Projectile defense right now. I want to pull my hair whenever i see a scrapper and an ele on the other team…
- CC: F1 pull fails more often than you know, not to mention the actual pull is nicely countered by stability now…which most classes have. I guess Anet forgot this is not 2014 anymore
- Survivability: DH make lovely focus targets. It is so easy to make a DH go defensive and pretty much turn into a HP spunge while they are frantically burning their cooldowns followed by going down soon after. DH survivability is based on outdated mechanics. such as shelter, Renewed focus, and Medi heals…other classes have much much stronger survival tools.

Everyone pretty much agrees the DH nerfs were unwarranted and left the class in a sad state. Nerfing our main burst option is unacceptable when the DH lacks so much. The buff to #3 and #4 are ok on paper but NOT on actual gameplay.

Please Anet, the DH is completely shut down the moment one faces opponents of average skill lvl and above

WvW armor stats

My wvw zerg set up involves

Soldier armor + weapon, with zerk accessories. You want to have a 50/50 balanced mix. if you want to be purely frontline, more soldier will not hurt.

I actually run hybrid staff/LB with Valor, honor for Pure of voice and DH.

I tend to run 1 or 2 traps for utilities depending on what i am doing. 2 well placed traps in a choke point = very game changing.

LB gives you options. You are no longer stuck with staff, but can be more offensive while being ranged. A LB2,3,4,5 on a downed player means you put so much pressure on whoever attempts to rez.

Rune of the trooper is a fav of mine as condies are always annoying. Depends on preference.

1 more thing, Pure of Voice gives retreat a 24 sec cooldown with a 20 sec duration swiftness w/o any kind of boon duration. If you use retreat with a staff and trait for empowered staff = perma swiftness while opening your rune slot for something more useful.

(people can QQ about LB2 but core guardian received considerable buffs this update)

Ventari is still trash, No way you will pick ventari over a druid
Sword nerfed even more, Sword #2 is trash now. Good game
Sword #2 is still bugged as hell
Mallyx is mediocre
Shiro got nerfed
Dward is crap, hammers are a bandaid in raids and bugged as hell anywhere else
Glint F2 is carrying the proff. If there is a 1 trick pony, this is it.

I honestly do not understand how anyone can play rev right now

That fractal is not hard, its just annoying, thats all. They can make archdiviner twice as hard as long as fractal is twice as short

Rev staff 5 needs counterplay

This is skill that takes out around 40% of the hp bar, while CCing you in the process, but by the time you see the animation it’s already too late to react to it.

There needs to be at least half a second of a windup animation for this attack if the damage and CC is going to remain the same, either that or the damage/cc needs to be toned down on this skill.

And before anyone says you can counter it with stability, the rev is obviously going to use it when you have either no stability or only 1-2 stacks of stability since those would be stripped easily by the attack.

You add counterplay to Staff 5 after you add counter play to reaper insane condi pressure or scrapper sustain.

I have literally seen ZERO revs in my last 20 games, with ruby and sapphire players.

I have however noticed a minimum of 2 reapers, scrappers or eles per game.

Maybe you people need to wake up?

Make revs F1 25% aoe, keep 50% for the rev?

I swear, some people have absolutely no idea what they are talking about.

Rev is already out of the meta in pve. Simply look at the 6 and 7 man NO UP DRAFT gorseval kill. Yet you want to nerf the only thing that makes revs remotely viable in raids.

Are you kidding me? Did you get kicked from a pug and replaced with a rev?
