Regardless, while we might see some QoL changes to virtues the fact remains as long as we have solid builds for every play mode they’re not going to make substantial changes to a profession-wide mechanic. Even if they utterly suck (they don’t), the total package doesn’t.
That is a bullkitten argument.
You can remove F1-F3 all signets and spirit weapons and guardians won’t suck. Doesn’t mean its ok to do so! If anything it screams “please don’t forget me!”
Broken and weak class mechanics need to be looked at, end of story.
Switching from Guardian:
- Absolutely nothing!I am sick and tired of all our suggestions/complaints falling on deaf ears and taking some skills/abilities 2+ years to be fixed (like shield)
Also sick of having our ICONIC utility line (spirit weapons) be worthless for again…the last 2 years without a single attempt at improving them.
Looking forward to rolling with a class where actually our complaints/suggestions are taken seriously
We all know you wont be swapping off of guardian.
Depends how many of the glaring issues are fixed within the next 11 days.
It will tell me how much they really care about Guardian
I hate passive things like ranger pets, minions, spirit weapons, gadgets etc..
It’s best for everyone in PvP if we don’t encourage them to start buffing crap like that unless it’s pure support and no damage.
I disagree. You want some kind of variation. If spirit weapons only gave buffs, why bother using them over shouts
Besides, they are for people who want more offensive options
This needs to go back up. Core virtues by itself are crap. You shouldn’t have to trait virtues line to have functional F1-F3 skills
Spirit weapons haven’t been touched for quite a while now and even though the traits were merged, the weapons themselves are still crap.
IDEALLY they need to go back and redesign, or update the functionality of some of them, similar to ventari tablet and scrapper gadgets.
Looking forward to rolling with a class where actually our complaints/suggestions are taken seriously
You really believe in that? I think you might end up being disappointed.
Our sword auto chain #3 is still a projectile 3 years down the road. Took how long for the rev one to be fixed?

Needless to say this issue needs to be fixed now while all classes are being looked at, otherwise …it might take much longer
We can all agree spirit weapons are subpar (they suck) xpt for shield which is extremely situational
And sadly they make up one of the most class defining features of the game. So its really sad they are so underused.
I was thinking of a few ways they could be improved:
1) Return invulnerability as they were during launch
2) Have skill cooldown start the moment when the spirit weapon is supposed, not when it is destroyed. They should double the duration. In addition, increase the HP and damage/healing of each weapon.
And my favorite:
3) Add pulsing boon application to each weapon. You could even have this linked to a GM trait somewhere in zeal. My idea is to add spirit weapons some of the utility you would otherwise have while using shouts.
- Sword adds pulsing might
- hammer adds pulsing fury
- Shield adds pulsing protection
- Bow adds pulsing regen
Any of these changes would add SO MUCH utility/power to the spirit weapons to make them compete with shouts and medis.
Come on Anet! Spirit weapons ARE the class defining feature of the guardian after all!
What are you laughing about? Our 17 seconds of complete frontal invulnerability? Yeah I would too
So you are saying we are in a good spot ?

“I’ve gotten lots of feedback, increasingly so with time, about this part of the sword auto-attack chain. I’ll be changing this skill so that it will no longer use a projectile attack and instead it will become a normal melee attack which applies vulnerability.”
Hi Karl!
How about we change our Sword #1 auto attack chain to NOT use projectile attacks while we are at it. Please? We have only been asking for it for 2 years now
(edited by Hunter.4783)
Please fast forward to 5 30 where he is 1v3 what you would now call sPVP scrubs
Oh my! I didn’t know all you guys became so great at this game after playing a new class for about 20 hours as opposed to others with over 3k hours under their belt
Get real please, this is getting nerfed.
Ahh, you guys sound much like the D/D eles and Warriors pre nerf:
Everyone else is a nub, you are the only good players
Hello fellow guardian here. So I played Guardian over BWE3 and I like it a lot overall. However I’m worried about one thing, true shot. Its damage to cool down ratio is a little too good, by that I mean its the best skill on the guardian for damage and it has a 4 second cooldown! lets look at the contenders for high burst skills on guardian. All stats are taken from a Berserker amulet in PvP with power rune.
1. True Shot – .75 second cast – 2,214 damage – 4 second cool down
2. Mighty Blow – .75 second cast – 1,625 damage – 5 second cool down
3. Whirling Wrath – 1.5 second channel – 2,429 damage – 10 sec cool down
4. Zealots Defense – 1.5 second channel – 2,224 damage – 15 second cool down
5. Shield of Wrath – no cast – 1898 damage – 36 second cool downNow I understand that True shot also roots but at the same time the other high damage skills leave you vulnerable while using them. Lets go down the list in order comparing each to true shot.
2. Mighty Blow this is probably my favorite comparison it has the same cast time and similar cooldown but damage drop is large. It can be argued that Mighty blow is an AoE so it deserves lower damage, however True shot also pierces allowing you to hit many enemies in WvW and PvE, in PvP its rare either skill will hit more than 1 opponent. Finally the skill forces you to move a set distance toward your target during which time you are vulnerable too any AoE under your feet or interrupts.
3 and 4. Whirling Wrath and Zealots Defense this does lower damage as it is a channel, during the time you save by using true shot you can then do anything else an you have dealt more damage than whirling wrath did. their cool downs are also huge in comparison to true shot.
5. this isn’t something really comparable because of its a 36 second cooldown with lower damage, its mostly used for a quick burst.
I’m afraid looking at it numbers wise that Longbow will just bee to good for damage and it will cause other guardian weapons to become used less and less. I think it would be fine on a 8 second cooldown with allowed movement, the movement would give it some nice play in WvW and the cooldown would help balance its damage a little bit.
Suddenly trueshot looks perfectly fine, if not weak
Hey Wand you’re famous, let the tears flow!!!!!
You are delusional if you think this is hitting live servers
because it seems to me like it does
Casual 1v4 in WvW
Casual 1v3 in sPVP (5 30 mark)
Im sorry but this class needs to be seriously looked at between now and launch unless you want to turn this into the new cancer. Nerf the skills in sPVP only if you must but currently Revenant is OVERPOWERED.
2x Stability stack on dodge? Multiple blocks, evades AND invulnerability on the same class.
Its about time they get an overhaul or undergo considerable change
Its ridiculous that without heavily investing in radiance or virtues trait lines, F1 and F2 respectively might as well not be present in the game.
Guardian is the ONLY profession right now where you could very well remove the F1-F3 skills and still retain 99% of functionality.
Passive effects need to be stronger while the active needs an additional effect not affiliated with virtue line traits. Its ridiculous that activating an untraited F1 gives you 1 more seconds of burning while putting the skill on cooldown for 20+ seconds.
F2 and F3 are both boring, lack imagination and need to be made stronger.
As i said, right now, i might as well remove F1-F3 keys and still retain 99% of effectiveness
There is this disturbing trend i have been noticing as of late
Only new/bad players seem to like the dragonhunter wheres any moderately skilled or above player hates it with a passive.
I wonder if dragonhunter is supposed to be the entry level PVE endgame class for HoT…
I can sort of understand the idea behind the dragon hunter.
Its similar to dark avengers or blackguards which were twisted forms of the paladin.
I can definitely deal with that.
What i can’t fathom though is how badly they screwed the execution of the class. A longbow is fine, traps are simply stupid from both a gameplay and thematic perspective.
Instead of traps they can very well use mantras, or copy paste skills from the old paragons such as arias, echos (basically shouts that are renewed upon meeting a certain condition) etc
everyone is creaming his lungs out saying Dragon hunter is bad in EVERY SINGLE game mode yet Anet remains silent and buffs numbers instead of changing functionality
I am only one testing it in PVP, haven’t seen not even one there . Ppl are playing with reapers and druids only…seen few DD and scrappers, 1 chrono 1 berserker and thats it.
~50-100 ranked matches played with DH.edit: I lied, seen 1 trap DH in the morning who I killed couple of times and said him to drop traps if he want to survive.
DH is pretty bad right now. DiD about 10 games this morning, not A SINGLE DH out there, and maybe 1 other guardian. everyone is playing other specs.
Anet…when even your beta players refuse to play this shinny new class, you know there is something wrong
I was just about to make a similar post.
With all the amount of CC and interrupts going on right now, its very very difficult to get off channeled abilities, especially when being focused.
Basic F2 let you deal with this kind of CC and heavy condi pressure because it was instance cast, and that was the whole point of dwelling into virtues
Current DH F2, even though looks stronger on paper than classic F2, in practical settings is very difficult to get off and usually will be interrupted, resulting in your death.
Please give evade frames, it is the least you can do
Bow stinks for svp wake up. You’ll rarely hit with bow2 so it doesnt matter if it hit for 10k. And no weapons skills with 50 second cooldowns like 5 please. What is the reason to play bow exactly. What does it accomplish it doesnt shine at anything it tries to be jack of all tradeish which is always poor. Rapid Fire and the stealth shot rangers get blow this out of the water. Seriously some lazy dev though it would be neat to make guardians into inferior trap rangers which is already a lacking spec in pvp lol. Seriously I rarely take part in betas and give feedback by I played a long session with this in spvp like 4 hours and while I dont claim to be one of the best I have more expereince in spvp then about 95% of the guardians that post here I have close to 10k spvp games under my belt. This needs a lot of work for spvp period. Dragon Hunter and longbow are one of the most lacking elites available for spvp.
Pretty much this.
people need to wake up. True shot can hit for 20k for all i care and will still stink in sPVP as NO ONE will let you get that off or simply dodge away. not to mention blinds blocks and all the heavy CC that all the classes are getting now
Looks like a gimmick at best, a 1 trick pony if you will. Simply by going zeal you have to forego virtues, and most of your team support as well as considerably hamper your condi removal and F2 heal
If things keep going at this rate, Guardian might as well just become a stability/aegis bot, because that’s all people will ever want it for anymore.
As of BWE3, it already is.
Is actually pretty kitten ed amazing. I was anticipating spending most of my time on druid and reaper. But I had an idea to use signets due to the ranged CC effects on them. And the synergy is actually pretty amazing. You can land ALOT of longbow 2s thanks to the CC procs on the signet actives. And the damage boosts go along way towards turning already hard hitting skills into nukes.
I was using a radiance/DH/virtues build. to reduce the cooldown on virtue of justices’ passive and make it aoe. I ended up making almost the entire build around the passive/active of the f1. And it works amazingly well in most cases. I have to reccomend giving it a shot.
Who are you using against im sorry. it sure as hell aint players. And it aint bosses.
Could it be…open world PVE solo content? You know any kind of trait/gear combination will outperform what u just described right?
Traps simply need to go, its that easy, and still would not fix even half the problems, but would be a good start.
Right now this elite spec is simply a braindead nub friendly class to run around and pew pew during zerg events from the safety of 1200 range and maybe toss a few shouts around.
I can’t understand how this pathetic excuse of a mess can be advertised as an elite spec
I’m sorry if im coming off strong but this is ridiculous
Why are you even bothering with this ranger wanna be idea using the utilities that 99% of the community hates with a passion.
Longbow is a mediocre weapon at best and complete trash in sPVP or should any melee class get on you.
longbow #2 can very well hit for 20k and STILL won’t be able to hit anyone assuming they know you are there. Telegraph and rooting effect pretty much excludes this option vs any intermediate and above player.
Longbow #1 still hits like a wet-noodle for having sacrificed a whole traitline just to be able to use it
Longbow #5 simply does not work in PVP and you might as well just trash the whole skill and things would not change 1 bit
Utilities are the worse offense i have seen in gw2 so far. Traps are hated by 99% of the playerbase yet you give that to an ELITE spec, not to mention in the broken/kitten form they are now
Everyone has been screaming their lungs out to get them removed yet you continue to go with them
As of right now EVERY SINGLE ELITE SPEC has been an improvement to the base class, or has been adding to it at least. Dragonhunter FORCES the player to give up something to get something else. I don’t understand how this important point has been ignored for so long.
And lets not get into the traits; they are a complete mess; no coherence, and extremely weak. Our GM traits might as well be minor traits and i STILL wouldn’t take them if i had a choice.
Guardian is slowly being pushed to trash tier in PVP now. You really think this class can stand to chroniclers, reapers, zerkers and even scrappers at this current state?
No i am not going to suggest changes in this post, as we have plenty of those already. But i want to say that this class has been slowly sinking due to dev apathy and being seen as “in a good spot”. This is a reason i barely see any guardians any more in serious sPVP games, only the occasional bunker, which will be completely replaced by the time HoT hits
till the other side brings 20 reapers and then your front and midline melts in 3 seconds. That aegis sure made a difference!!
I don’t get the relevance really; why would anyone expect DH to be any good for PVE in the first place? Was there ever any doubt that it had a heavy flavour as a PVP spec? I don’t think a lack of endorsement by Obal indicates anything other than we already have an optimal DPS spec for PVE.
I’m gonna go ahead and say that it should be safe to assume that it’s not going to be any good in PvP either.
Like when you said Burn Guard was going to be bad?
Hehe, i’m not going to let that one go!I’ve stressed tested DH in TPvP and duels. A lot of what the build lacked has already been addressed.
- Condi clears
- Invalid line of sight with Bow skills
- Low damages with bow
- F3 didn’t block (a huge one)
- F2 was worthless if you had a CC
- If F2 did work, you’d never go anywhere with it
I feel the DH will handle itself quite well now in any 1v1 situation, better than group fights. In team fights, it’ll still take some ingenuity to be good with bow in terms of not dying right away from geting focus targeted.
(I feel power builds will utilize bow more than condi builds)
1v1 the class will still be terrible, don’t kid yourself. Any melee centric class, like thief and war, and reapers especially will literally RIP the DH a new one.
You think your 1k auto attack crits will save you from the 10k mesmer burst or the constant pressure reapers can pull out?
Additions to the initial notes:
Puncture Shot: Increased damage by 10%.
True Shot: Increased damage by 25% (instead of the 12% increase we had indicated) note: The overall damage potential of the ability wasn’t quite up to where we wanted to test it at, so here we are!
Wings of Courage: Increased leap distance to 800, up from 600. note: This has been in discussion for a bit. Now’s a good time to check it out, being as there’s a lot of conversation on it here already.-Karl
Hi Karl, numeric buffs are always welcome, but they don`t deal with the core of the problem
Please consider:
- Making traps ground targetable. Additional functionality for all traps, right now they are subpar.
- Remove rooting effect from trueshot, it really is an awkward skill to use in a game like GW2 where mobility is kind. Channel time is fine, but the root needs to go
- Reduce cooldown on F3. I know you are afraid of possible abuse in WvW but in turn its really underwhelming for solo and 5 man content
All I have to say, is that I’m glad the majority of you in this thread are not in charge of making any sort of decisions towards the directions classes go.
Let me guess: You think Guardians are in a good spot
I run smoldering and balthazar, any of my burns that don`t get cleansed will take away half the HP
The problem is sustain and sustained damage.
GS don`t offer you sustained damage, Sword focus or sword torch does.
Also sword 3 is amazing in sPVP when everyone is bombarding you with ranged damage and will let you facetank and pressure another focus burn guardian…hard
I have tried all variations of the build. IJ+ sword 3 is equally as well as IJ+GS2 for single target and has tracking on top of it.
Any competent premate will simply cleanse your initial GS burst and you will be left with a SINGLE condi cleanse and be fodder afterwards.
Longbow #1 needs to auto turn you towards the target when not moving, similar to ranger. Currently thats not the case. So its really awkward when even PVE creatures strafe behind you and you simply stand there.
Now imagine in PVP…
I dont like it. Your prev versions, and my current build are better.
GS: Its actually bad for a burn build. I find sword/focus scepter/torch to be far superior
Smite condi: you simply NEED it for the superior healing/condi cleaning and pressure
Improved virtues: I simply cannot live without traited F2 and F3. You give up any kind of team support, stab, and extra suitability for an increase to burn application which you will most likely not live long enough to see
balthazar rues: Its simply better, 11k burn on every single purging flames application is superior to current guardian runes.
With your build you only have enough juice to run in, drop burning flames and die by the time you finish GS#2. Try fighting any kind of serious premades with a cele necro and ele, you will get wrecked
Power has been systematically removed from the core traitlines just to be added to this mess you call the dragonhunter.
Zeal took over a 15% DPS hit
Radiance lost quite a bit too
Honor lost 10% as well which actually makes a difference in PVP as you are dodging quite a bit
This approach MUST stop
Greetings all!
Now that the betas are over and we’ve been working through quite a bit of feedback, we now have the chance to give you the list of changes that will be available for the next beta.Virtues:
This specialization will ask that you make a trade-off of instant-cast abilities in order to gain access to a more physical aspect of them. With that goal in mind, we want to ensure that the virtues are rewarding while, while still maintaining some risk about them. In this iteration we’ve shored up a bit of the risks. We’ve lowered recharges of both Justice and Resolve while specialized as a Dragonhunter, in addition to lowering the cast times and improving battle effectiveness.Spear of Justice: Increased missile velocity by 100%. Reduced the casting speed from 3/4 second to 1/4 second. Updated skill facts when virtue traits are equipped. Fixed a bug that caused this trait to not trigger with Wrath of Justice. Reduced recharge from 25 to 20. This ability is now unblockable.
Wings of Resolve: This ability now removes Immobilize at the beginning. Cooldown has been reduced from 50 seconds to 30.
Shield of Courage: Reduced the cast to 0.25 seconds. The after-cast of this ability has been reduced by 200 ms. This ability now blocks all attacks from the front, while attacks from behind will strike the guardian.
Longbow:
As with the virtues, we want to continue to ensure that the longbow feels rewarding. A few of the missile velocities felt slow and not as deadly as they could be, so we’ve been making steps at increasing both velocity and lethality, while ensuring that there’s a bit of utility to go around.Puncture Shot: Increased missile velocity by 66%
True Shot: Damage increased by 12.5%
Deflecting Shot: Reduced missile velocity by 25%. Reduced after-cast by 300
milliseconds. Increased base damage by 13%. Destroying a projectile with this ability increases the damage it deals by 100%. Increased the blocking radius by 33%. The attack radius of this ability has not been increased.Symbol of Energy: Increased missile velocity by 60%. Increased symbol damage by 10%. The initial burning impact now inflicts two stacks of burning, up from one. This skill can now be fired behind you.
Traps:
We’re continuing to work on trap usability, functionality and improve visual effects. There’s not a whole lot in this update, but we continue to appreciate your feedback on these abilities.Traps (general): Reduced the cast time of all traps to 1/2 second, down from 1 second.
Purification: Fixed an issue that caused this ability to not function correctly with Runes of the Trapper.
Traits:
We’ve updated the trait line a bit to be more in line with other profession trait lines.Piercing Light: This trait has been reworked. While activating, traps will now daze enemies in the radius for 1 second. Trap recharges are reduced by 20%.
Hunter’s Determination: This trait has been reworked to apply aegis to the guardian and drop a Fragments of Faith trap at their location when controlled.
Hunter’s Fortification: This trait has been reworked to remove conditions when blocking attacks. In addition, receive less damage when you have no conditions on you.
Dulled Senses: This trait has been updated: Enemies you knock back are crippled. Enemies you cripple are also inflicted with vulnerability.
Zealot’s Aggression: This trait now allows Justice’s passive effect to cripple, in addition to dealing extra damage to crippled enemies.
Heavy Light: This trait has been updated: Longbow arrows knock back when enemies are within the range threshold. Gain stability when you knock an enemy back.
Cheers,
-Karl
Hi Karl,
I think its about time you admit traps are a boring mechanic, hated by the vast majority of the player base and its time to change them for something else
The fact that there are very minor changes this times around tells me you guys have NO IDEA what to do with traps.
Addition:
Shield of courage – Please reduce cooldown to 50 seconds. Its supposed to be a strong standalone ability even when not traited in virtues.
Puncture shot: Increase damage by 20% please. I really felt like i was attacking like a wet noodle during the last beta.
True shot – Rooting effect needs to go. Staff 4 for revs no longer roots cuz it was found “awkward”. How about we give our poor dragonchumps the same treatment?
You should be looking at radiance valor DH. Burn and condi cleanse on block but lose purging flames
valor virtue DH for Increased F1 freq. Gonna be quite cool in WvW and Spvp, lol
A net dont give a kitten as long as a class has 2 viable builds and works in at least 1 game mode. Guard is meta ia wvw ans pve, viable in spvp. They could change Dragon hunter to use a birthday blaster and still be happy with it as the class already “is in a good spot”
They can remove all signet and spirit weapon skills and the class would still be “in a good spot”
So dont expect anything major in bwe3. It will be number changes and thats it
As annoyed as I am about certain aspects of DH (and guard in general) i’m trying to remain optimistic. I’m looking forward to the additional Cripple on F1 effect and the revised Hunter’s Fortification where blocks now removes a condition. Looking forward to the BWE where we can test these features.
If these traits are what I hope for then the DH will play rather nicely. I just wish DH wasn’t released this past Beta weekend so I wasn’t reminded by how poorly (particularly the Bow’s weaknesses) the DH was.
We both know in its current reiteration radiance/valor/virtues >> anything with a DH simply due to the cast times on virtues and on demand snare with F1.
OR you can go condi/hybrid and still be better off.
DH right now is garbage and its plagued by design flaws. They can change the DH virtues all they want but as long as there is a cast time on F2 and F3, DH will remain inferior.
Longbow has to way to evade/mitigate damage, or snare, CC (well it does, and its garbage)
Traps are ….lol
UNLESS we get core DH changes, i won’t even bother speccing into it.
So who did either BWE with Runes of the Trapper? or Traveler?
I tried with traveler runes. Longbow/melee weapons and a combination of any possible trait lines with dragonhunter
What ended up happening is that i would end up switching the longbow out and improve my overall effectiveness by 2-3 fold
Basically i feel, as i already pointed out, the dragonhunter and the longbow (not to mention traps, lol) is a complete downgrade to the current guardian.
PVE zerg events? GS and staff reign supreme
PVE zerg bosses? Why waste a traitline for longbow when scepter focus is FAR superior
PVE Solo questing/events? scepter/focus and GS or Sword/focus and Scepter/torch for hybrid builds are simply FAR stronger
WvW? Longbow is a death sentence…unless you are outzerging/snowballing the enemy team, and at that point, running around naked with a lvl 1 blue staff is equally as effective….and end up tagging more players too
Dungeons? Why would ANYONE even CONSIDER longbow and DH over a plethora of builds involving a combination of our traitlines which again are stronger. And being 1200 range pretty much puts you out of PS warrior might stacking range
sPvP? ahahaha…haha…haha is that a joke?
Anything is better than the current random knock back auto attacks. I like this idea a lot actually. Also goes with the theme behind the skill
I noticed a couple pets here that play themselve as the defender of anets. The issues presented here are indisputable and deserve attention. The issues themselves don’t make people frustrated, it’s the Anet’s suspicious silence over it. So what people are supposed to do? obviously to continue pressure them with it. And these pests, i mean, pets come along and pratically go " whatever Anet give us, it must be good, shut up and stop demand improvement". You know who you are. How are we supposed to improve the class with this sort of gullible obedience mentality these guys are promoting.
Yep, and it’s this blind faithfulness that has kept the Guardian in a good place for over 2 years now
None of you speak for me. This thread is a joke. I enjoyed DH and with the planned tweaks it will be fine. It fundamentally changes the way someone plays a guardian and if you can’t adapt with the spec, don’t run the line.
I enjoy eating pizza, doesn’t mean it’s good for me.
I’m glad you had fun, but you could have also ran around naked with the birthday blaster and seen similar results.
Don’t rely on zergs to judge whether Dragonhunter is good or not.
Saddly this is the recurring problem. Anet has been optimizing classes based on open world events, and hence why the idea of a “selfish” class came from.
And hence why they think its acceptable to have skills which root you in place for minimal results, ranger skills which can’t be fired from behind and virtues which have a cast time.
ofc, they think traps work wonderful when you have mobs with a fixed spawn time/location and everyone is camping it…
The bow can be fixed and will be good in Zerg vs Zerg…
The Dragonkitten spec… garbage.
Should of given us a Shield Specialization AND the bow.
Pretty much. i would much rather trade the bow as a core weapon, but be the only class without an elite trait line rather than the alternative we have now.
Its disgusting how bad the elite spec is right now
Yes, because you can see every single time a guardian sets down their trap. Because only scrubs cannot see invisible traps on a map where line of sight of pretty controlled. Yes, please tell us how your epic skill can not only negate all 4 invisible traps that have conveniently been placed on top of each other, but also put every GS and LB skill on cooldown. Please teach all the scrubs how you do it.
I don’t know whether you are delusional, playing devils advocate, or have this innate dislike for the guardian class.
Traps are a joke because you can counter them by evading, end of story.
You WILL see where the trap goes because the dragonhunter will HAVE to place the trap when he starts to see you charge, otherwise he would have just wasted an utility slot.
Not to mention stability > dragon maw and dodge > rest of the traps.
Even ranger traps are deadlier i find because of the condi spam and pressure.
You walk into ranger traps? Either have mass condi remova + a stun breaker or you die
You walk into a guard trap? Dodge and you are fine
Do you see the problem with this?
And i don’t care how skilled you are with your guardian, if you have 0 utilities and a crappy longbow there is no way in hell you stand a chance vs ANY class right now
So this past weekend I tried running a pure Dragon Hunter. Nothing but traps and Longbow. And of course occasionally switching to GS to #2 people in the face who walk into the traps. Here’s how it went down for me
Traps-Traps are beautiful. I personally think some of the numbers need a buff because there’s a few classes that can walk through them like they’re a rampaging warrior (this of course includes rampaging warriors). But the fact that I can set them and they don’t trigger until somebody walks into them gives me great initiation ability (assuming they are coming to me). I played stronghold and spammed all of them right on the choke point and guess who walked into them? -Everybody-. I will say however that the synergy with them and LB feels kinda odd. I would rather switch to my Greatsword to burst somebody who just got stuck in Dragons Maw rather than stand back and shoot them with the LB #2. Then again I really like pushing the offensive so maybe that’s just me.
MY ONLY PROBLEM WITH TRAPS is that they feel kind of spammy. I spend half my time in a fight casting those things when I should be using weapon skills it feels. Power and CD should both get increasedLongbow- The longbow was great. Yeah I wasn’t slaying people left and right with it but I would by fibbing if I said it didn’t serve its purpose. Its #5 royaly messed with people. I didn’t get much use out of the #3 but I only had a couple days to play with it. The symbol was legit. People will gladly step around unfriendly AoEs…aaaand right into my traps. I will say the overall damage felt a bit low when I was running berserker amulet. I know its ranged and all but people really didn’t react to it the same way they react to a Ranger LB (With running, and popping defense spells, and panic). Using it in group fights was effective but one on one people seemed way to comfortable going toe to toe with me.
Traits- Hunters fortification beats the pants off of Heavy Light. Seriously. I’d take it 10 outa 10 times. I tried using heavy light at first and barely noticed it. by the time somebody was that close to me I was getting ready to switch to melee anyways. Its a CC trait that’s being used as a self defense trait. Which Hunters fortification is great self defense that’s being used for group defense. Its just a no brainer. Now if I could shoot somebody from a ways off and knock them down, that would be useful. But as it is right now if I see somebody in a fight, than hopping over with my F2 is going to save them, not me running up going “Wait for me ill help you” and then getting point black to the other guy just so I can shoot him in the face and knock him over.
No offense bro but seems to me like you were playing complete scrubs
Only bads will talk into your weak kitten traps. If i see you lay a trap i would simply DODGE INTO IT.
Do you understand this simple notion? you can set all 4 traps in a corner and a single dodge/evade frame will simply null all 4 and leave you with bow/GS autos and all utility and elite on cooldown.
Its great that you are liking traps but any REMOTELY skilled opponent will negate them EASILY.
And don’t get me started into the longbow..its a joke. Even Sword is far far superior to longbow.
Oh also, the new virtue’s are far worse than the older ones. Whether people want to admit it or not, DH IS a selfish line. The virtue’s themselves only really affect the Guardian and are on massive cd’s.
Long bow is too slow, has no defensive mechanics attached so if someone rushes you,(you can’t run because you’re a guardian) you are screwed.
Traits are a huge mess. Dogma discourages you from using your virtue’s which make no kitten sense. Flat % traits are boring and unimaginative.
I am personally ok with selfish virtues for as long as they are at least REMOTELY useful.
But they are not.
F1 is complete trash. needs to be instant cast for me to consider it. Must have added functionality. possibly a pull on affected target
F2 is a joke and gets you killed. Cast time needs to go, needs to be instant and give evade frames. 25 sec cooldown
F3 is an insult. Stun breaker on a cast time? are you kittening kidding me? The whole charm of F3 was due to safe stomps, stunbreaker and INSTANT CAST AOE
Here are some current problems that will persist even despete the suggested changes
1: Longbow mechanics are too clunky. You need to auto turn on bow #1. Bow #1 needs to do more damage. I am hitting things in HOT mats for 600 and crit for 1500 whereas i get to crit for 5k with my rev on auto attacks. There is something extremely wrong with that.
2: Get rid of rooting in Longbow #2, its silly
3: Longbow #3 is nice on theory but very very poorly executed. consider slowing the projectile 2-3x and increase the width 3-4x
4: Retain symbol burn mechanics
5: Traps are worthless, and rely on enemy making mistakes (ie, walking over them, not dodging, etc) rather than on your skill. Traps need to be changed either into wells, symbols, or SOMETHING else. Traps also need to be range targeted.
consider adding an F4 which removely activates all the traps
6. traits are a mess and do virtually nothing to alterate gameplay, not to mention being extremely weak. As it stands, the class would be much better of turning the longbow into a default weapon and do away with the entire dragonhunter traitline.
Core traitlines are much much stronger
7. New virtues are clunky and worthless. i would much rather be offered the choice of retaining my old virtues when speccing DH. At the VERY least they must all be insta cast.
- F1 needs to throw spears to all enemies close range in a 180 degree arc, insta cast
- F2 needs to be instant and give evade frames, else its worthless and default F2 is MUCH MUCH stronger
- F3 the cast time on F3 is a complete joke and removes the option of safe stomping completely
Just to reiterate, traps rely on the enemy player screwing up, it doesn’t actually reward you for playing well.
Couldn’t have put it better myself.
Devs really need to understand this part. Its one of the key flaws of the dragonhunter
