Are we gonna use dragon's power against Mord?

I See No Tomorrow.7302

Within the Dragonbrand, there are countless corrupted creatures, all of whom use the fleshy part of their bodies as the base and Kralk’s corruption crystals as the obvious visible form of corruption.
The Shatterer is built entirely from these corruption crystals, and there is no fleshy aspect of it. It is the “pure” form of the Branded.

Zhaitan raises the dead. For something to be raised, it must first be alive. Tequatl, Blightgast, etc. are all Risen champions. It follows that their skeletal structure comes from a previously living being. Unlike Kralk, there doesn’t seem to be a “pure” form of Risen corruption, it only significantly affects the dead. Orr itself is corrupted, yes, but things are not physically twisted in the same way they are in the Dragonbrand, which is a corruption of the creatures, plants, buildings, and land itself. Blightgast and the others had to have been some kind of draconic creature before becoming powerful Risen champions.

And it’s true that we find remnants of bones from fleshy creatures in a multitude of Icebrood. I also thought that Svanir himself as the Nornbear was a champion of Jormag? So they don’t necessarily have to all be dragons.

From this evidence it follows that Glint, who was mostly fleshy with Branded crystals coming out of her, had been a dragon before being corrupted by Kralk. Also, it’s usually creatures who had been uncorrupted and become corrupted who are able to still reproduce through eggs after corruption. Correct me if I’m wrong on that point though.

While we’re at it, can we implement more other emotes too? GW1 has so many more emotes than GW2. With the exception of /jump and the air instruments possibly, I can see no downside to implementing more emotes.

Will level cap raise?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: I See No Tomorrow.7302

I See No Tomorrow.7302

Why raise the level cap? The only way this would be acceptable would be to introduce no weapons, armor, or trinkets that required a level above 80. This is primarily because of both the max gear stats and the transmutation that people pour into their level 80 gear.

And if that happens, what’s the point of being level 85 or 90? There would be no point whatsoever. So it makes zero sense to increase the level cap.

Well to be fair, we didn’t see Zhaitan until a few minutes before we killed it. Why do you expect we’ll somehow confront Mordy so soon and fully?

Besides, it’s been established that the vines attacking waypoints are Mordy itself. So in a way, you already have seen our newest leafy dragon friend.

Suggestion: HoM skins unlockable via gemstore

I See No Tomorrow.7302

Hmm some people seem to have issue that they must play a different game to get these skins/pet skins/minis/titles. I can understand that. But honestly, while these skins are fantastic, not everyone can get them if they’re not willing to go through the method that is already in place for them to use. So either go through the method and get them, or not.

“I shouldn’t be forced to do something I don’t like or spend money to get something I like!” Really? I enjoy many of the Legendary skins but since I don’t want to put the effort into it, I’m not getting them. Someone earlier mentioned the Balthazar backskin item, which is sPvP exclusive. They like it, but since they don’t sPvP, they won’t get it.

There are gem store items I want, sure. But I don’t want to spend too much money, whether real or in-game gold, on the gem store. So I’ll just have to deal with not having them.

What the OP is complaining about is the method by which these skins are obtained, which they view as a combination of spending money and doing something they don’t want to do. They’re willing to spend money, but not do the actions required beyond spending the money. Sadly, that’s not enough in this case. Getting these skins requires that, and they’re not going to change it because you don’t like GW1. I don’t like sPvP or grinding for materials, so I’m not going to get the skins related to those actions. You don’t like GW1, so you aren’t going to get those skins either.

You have a choice, you’re choosing the direction of not getting the skin. I hate it when people say this, but deal with it. If they made all the skins in the game easily obtainable, then there would be little to work for. Either do what is required to get them or not, simple as that.

So the theory regarding the Pale Tree as a minion/champion of Mordy is, in my opinion, silly. There’s literally no proof, just wishful thinking that the Trees have some connection to Mordremoth. It’s been talked to death for the past two years, so I won’t get into the specifics. As such, I will ignore any aspects of anything that have to do with the Tree being related to Mordy apart from “plants”. The only thing I will grant is that sylvari are more likely to be able to be corrupted by Mordy because they are plants and Mordy corrupts plants; not because they are related to our Draconic friend. And before you start, I’ve heard every argument in the book about “Pale Tree = Related to Mordy”.

Perhaps I should have noted in my post that I am not interested in hearing about how the Pale Tree is related to Mordremoth, because the poor horse has been beaten so many times.

On topic:

The Pale Tree has said on numerous occasions that she did not create or maintain the Dream. She merely has a connection with it. As a result, her connection to the Dream seems to be happenstance of some sort, and the physiology of the Tree herself seems to be receptive to this kind of connection.

Catalyst (Spoilers)

in Lore

Posted by: I See No Tomorrow.7302

I See No Tomorrow.7302

This may also be silly, but hear me out. (Don’t worry, this is not a “sylvari are dragon minions” or “Pale Tree is dragon champion” theory. But it might be just as ridiculous and if so, please ignore it.)

The Eternal Alchemy showed the Pale Tree at the center of the six dragons. Now, no matter whether the center circle represented continental Tyria or not, we know the Tree is somehow involved.

The Pale Tree was one of many seeds in a cave Ronan found guarded by plant monsters. Alright. Some may think they were Mordrem left over from the last rise of Dragons but I don’t believe it. Anyway, Ronan grabs his seed, runs back to his family and finds them murdered. He partners up with Ventari and plants the seed on his family’s grave then is buried there himself.

It’s not the only Tree. Malyck grew from a Tree that has no connection to the Dream of Dreams. Perhaps that is what is important, however. The representation of the Pale Tree in the Alchemy could be another way to represent the Dream, the Tree being merely a conduit between the Dream and reality.

My point, though, and the reason why this thread is titled “Catalyst”, is it seems that the Tree must come into existence before the Dragons start waking up. We have a period of 1070-1078 where Ronan could steal and plant the Pale Tree’s seed. (1070 being when the White Mantle rose up, 1078 being present day in EoTN.) Perhaps the planting of the Pale Tree, and its relationship with the Dream, is part of a catalyst for the Elder Dragons to arise. Is it a connection between the Dream and Tyria, perhaps, that helps the Dragons awaken? We know that soon after the Tree was planted, the Great Destroyer awoke and began creating minions for Primordus who almost woke up at that time — but we interfered by killing that champion.

Is it coincidence that the Pale Tree was planted right before an Elder Dragon almost awoke?

What I am not saying: I am not saying that the Tree is in any way “dragon-like”. What I mean by that is that the Tree is not a Dragon minion, champion, or a Dragon itself. It is a wholly different entity. My argument is focused not on the physicality of the Tree itself, but its connection with the Dream, which seems to be wholly unique. If some other entity created a link with the Dream, perhaps the Dragons would start to awaken then, too. The Tree just happens to be what did it this time.

I think I might be stretching a bit, but tell me what you think, if you agree and why, or if you think this is crap and why. Thanks!

I found the book in the Priory, it reads as follows:
“Erosion and Waypoint Stability.”

Some waypoints gradually fail over time, while other thrive. Current theories tie the failing waypoints to terrain that hinders the flow of energies. However, we have not been able to predict where a waypoint will thrive or fail. The specific conditions required for failure remain unknown. We have no other recourse but to apply a trail-and-error method to waypoint placement. Those that fail are dismantled to keep the waypoint grid strong.

So what does this mean for these waypoints?

Also, there appears to be a biography of Scarlet Briar here too.

Game companies really ought to stop communicating with their communities, because when internal plans change or something takes longer to work on or fit into the existing framework that initially thought possible, people whine that not everything happened the way it was supposed to happen.

They are working on these things. Some might be on hold, some might be slowly building in the background, and others might be about to be released. Chill. I intended to get a lot done yesterday but instead got less than I wanted. It happens, even with the best of efforts.

Plus the GW2 community has such a wide variety of opinions it’s hard for ANet to keep up with what the community thinks it wants.

Sylvari Humanoid Form

I See No Tomorrow.7302

This topic has likely been talked to death, but I’m not sure whether this particular angle has been approached yet. If so, then let this thread die like many other threads of mine.
So.
For years people have been speculating as to why sylvari have a humanoid appearance and size similar to humans. Theories have ranged from the Pale Tree growing on Ronan’s family (disproved because of Malyck’s tree) to the Dream supporting images of humans, to “just because”. I don’t know whether or not the lore community has reached a conclusion at this point, but I’d like to add my 2 cents.

In the new Season 2 chapter, we find Scarlet’s old room from when she was studying ley lines. In it was a particular piece of paper with the Pale Tree at the center. At this point in time, nobody really knows the true nature of the Dream, except that the Pale Tree does not create the Dream, it merely communes with it. This paper indicates that the Tree interacts with the Mists in some fashion, which is possibly related to the Dream.
I was recently reading the GW1W for kicks and for nostalgia when I found Razah’s article. Here’s a long quote, taken from the GW:Nightfall Manual:

The protomatter that makes up the Mists strains toward creation, often spawning demonic creations in nightmarish forms. Not all creatures from the Mists are demonic, however. When the Mists come into contact with a suitable human template, for example, it can copy that form, creating a sentient entity with humanoid appearance and an almost human mind.
Razah is one such creation. It has sprung into being a fully-formed adult. It has the knowledge and capabilities of a human, but lacks common sense. As a result, it asks odd questions about human emotions, contemplates human motivations, and attempts to duplicate human mannerisms. Razah is a contradiction: more than human in some ways, and less than human in others. It needs an identity, a personality, and a purpose. Hopefully, it will find its purpose by working with a hero. Otherwise, it could degenerate into an abomination as monstrous and inhuman as its demonic brethren.

I bolded the parts seem relevant to both Razah and the sylvari. While his description does not entirely follow the description of the sylvari (they’re not demons from the mists), the early sylvari certainly lack common sense (*cough*Riannoc*cough*). My theory is that the Pale Tree’s link to the Mists (and, presumably, Malyck’s Tree’s link to the Mists) provided the humanoid template which seems to be so common in those things spawned by the Mists.
Tell me if I’m making things up or there’s merit in this.

The Sylvari as Mordremoth Minions?

in Living World

Posted by: I See No Tomorrow.7302

I See No Tomorrow.7302

I don’t know what I could possibly add, as draxynnic and Konig Des Todes said it already: the sylvari are not minions, but are instead uniquely vulnerable to Mordremoth’s corruption.

Due to a number of other posts in the forums, I can speculate that the Dream helps prevent much of dragon corruption in general but cannot entirely override Mordremoth’s corruption for some reason. Likely that the ‘overgrown’, which is what seems to be Mordy’s equivalent of ‘branded’ or ‘risen’ or ‘icebrood’, are directly a corruption of plant matter. Other dragons may affect plants, as with the trees in the dragonbrand, but no other dragon has direct corrupting powers related to plant matter. Thus sylvari are most susceptible to Mordremoth’s powers.

War is never really the answer, despite what people seem to think. If the humans and charr just get over themselves and understand that the extreme violence that they’ve enacted upon one another was childish, and subsequently act towards peace and reparations, that would be the way to go.

Good gods folks, they say violence begets more violence but there’s a point where it’s stupid and people start to sound like teenagers who just want to get back at other teenagers over petty squabbles. Grow up folks.

Megaservers and RP

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: I See No Tomorrow.7302

I See No Tomorrow.7302

There is a major population of RPers in this game, and their/our right to play the game as they please is just as important as the everyday player’s. RPers require other RPers to create a complete experience, whereas a normal player has the ability to interact with a number of different players at different times. For RPers to flourish they must interact with other RPers, the average player (and many RPers also play the game normally sometimes) can interact or not interact with other people whose goals tend to be different oftentimes.

In other words, the average player teams up with other players to interact with content, and often have fun by making friendships and joining social guilds where specific people are important. RPers, on the other hand, interact with other players most of the time as their primary mode of game interaction. Much of their content stems from other players. This is unlike the average player’s experience, which, while enhanced by other player’s presence, is open to a variety of different peoples’ playstyles and attitudes. A roleplayer requires another person who is playing in a roleplaying manner to interact properly. That is why it is important that some solution be met; stranded roleplayers or roleplayers who would like to meet random others in an organic manner outside of guild planning have their options limited.

The oft-asked for ‘roleplaying tag’, whether it be something above the head or something that helps sort people into different megaservers, seems to be a fairly good idea. The fact that Anet has made this thread the official RP thread seems to indicate that they at least notice a possible problem with the megaserver system in this case. I have hopes that this problem can be resolved. There’s no need to be over dramatic about this, as it is true that the large majority of players are not roleplayers. Anet has said time and again that their goal is not to please every single person. However, this situation calls for a follow up response by Anet where they address the issue to greater effect. As this was a large update, I personally would ask people to be patient as Anet rolls into overdrive working on fixing bugs and meeting player account issues.

Its the 15th for me :‘( the update will probably be at some stupid time like 3am where I can’t be on

Because Anet operates in a different time zone than you. We all get to wait the same amount of time until the patch, it’s just those of us outside of their time zone must understand that it will be released on their time, not ours. That’s how it works and always has worked. Sadly there is no perfect time, as when they release updates tends tends to be relatively early in the day for them, around 9 am to 12 pm in their time zone. That gives them time to make sure the patch goes smoothly and to begin working on fixing bugs that inevitably get released along with features.

(Also let’s be real and note that no developer has made a release of software without bugs being a part of that release. This is not an “Anet is inadequate” thing.)

The only awesome I’m missing from GW1 is the build diversity, but it seems like they’re starting to move in that direction with a slight overhaul of the trait system coming out soon.

Also Mini First Mate Horrik was never in the gem store to my knowledge, it was gained by completing achievements. I personally dislike much of what’s happened with minis in this game as compared to GW1, but they’re still fun little pets either way. I think my disappointment stems from having multiple Queen Jennahs in my bank…what’s the point? We got a random mini from birthday gifts in GW1, which was fairly awesome.

Other than that, though, I never farmed in GW1 and nor have I endlessly killed things in GW2. I worked towards goals in GW1 (getting Vabbian armor was a pain but ultimately rewarding), and goals in GW2 (getting the correct ascended trinkets for my mesmer was fairly intense through fractals, but since I enjoy fractals I did not mind much).

I do have to agree about PvP, although I dislike PvP in any game (even GW1 and GW2) I do believe that Anet missed out by bringing a lackluster sPvP mode to GW2 after their many glorious and versatile PvP modes in GW1.

(But please more feminine armor for charr and asura please please)

On a personal note that has nothing to do with the overall thread – I love the fact that charr and asura don’t give two kittens about gender. They simply don’t distinguish and the idea of there being some clothes that only boys should wear and some clothes that only girls should wear is something they’d find odd. Unless I misunderstood you and you meant more feminine armour for both genders in which case sweet, I totally agree (like a frilly frock for both male and female charr) – I might actually make a male if that was available.

(edited to remove an extraneous end quote)

What I meant was that the charr and asura use what at first glance seems to be androgyny for their armor, but at second glance all of their armor is male. Oftentimes when people aim for no gender, what they’re really saying is a non-sexual male, rarely something that includes feminine qualities. Masculinity is seen to be the baseline and thus androgynous. As such, I believe we need more feminine armors for both asura and the charr because they are literally all masculine. I have no problem with female characters wearing masculine clothing, in fact I support that, but when there is no choice for feminine armor there becomes a problem.

So your point is that you want Anet to up their storywriting game? Sure, and I believe they’ve learned a lot from the last year or more of LS updates and that going forward it will continue to get better all the time. GW2 is a relatively experimental game, and that means it has plenty of flaws.

The update coming out on April 15th is huge. There’s no reason to deny it; it is a huge update. You can certainly protest and say that this update does not fix everything wrong with the game, and you’d be right. It doesn’t. But they also never said that it did fix everything wrong with the game.

An MMO is a continuous process, it’s literally never finished unless taken offline. GW2 is no different and Anet is planning to address things like this in the future. If you want more right now, then you’re urging them to make sloppy mistakes and to release more shoddy updates. Instead, suggest things that they will take into consideration and understand that much of what you’re not happy about will be addressed in due time. Rushing stuff will not make it any better when it’s released. Please, patience.

Besides, these updates are fantastic and I am personally happy about having countless dyes on every character in addition to being able to use an account wardrobe and new traits (not to mention the social benefits from the megaserver system). There are all kinds of players and no single kind of player is a problem, except those that believe that their issues are more important than every other player’s issues. What we need to do is appreciate that a wide variety of people play this game and they all want different things from it, and Anet is doing their best to make GW2 a fantastic game over time. As I said, no MMO is ever finished.

What needs to happen is this:

We have options now, but obviously they are not enough. A simple solution that would avoid the problems presented by attempting to put armor on a new kind of frame would be to merely create new armors. By this I personally really want more skimpy armor for male characters and more conservative armor for female characters.

I also want feminine armor for women that is not revealing and masculine armor for men that is revealing. In addition there really needs to be feminine armor choices for both the charr and asura. Wiping femininity from the slate as with asura and charr armors which only use male versions of all armor is not preferable.

We do need fewer revealing (or ‘practical’ I suppose, although the definition of practicality is skewed when you can wear robes and not get hurt from swords) armors, but we also need to keep in mind that in a fantasy setting people want to wear things that otherwise would not make sense. There is the same problem with women’s Halloween costumes; it is not a problem that there are skimpy options, but it is a problem that there are literally zero other options on the table. You can literally only be skimpy if you’re a woman looking for a Halloween costume.

Plenty of people want to skimpy but the problem is that there is no choice to the contrary. Give people a choice that’s easy to take…and you win. Congrats. Whoohoo.

(But please more feminine armor for charr and asura please please)

[Suggestion] Salvage Asc. gear for Laurels

Usually suggestions tend to be bizarre but…not in this case. This actually makes some sense. To keep it low, of course, it’d have to be 1 laurel per ascended item, despite what kind of item it is.

Missing some content is, oddly enough, part of what makes this whole thing a living story for me. If I miss something, the story moves right along, it doesn’t wait for me. If it waited for me, it’d feel like some kind of permanent expansion. But it’s not. That’s the whole point.

To put it another way, we miss plenty of things in real life. We don’t get angry at real life, although we may regret missing some things that happened. Obviously the living story was created by Anet and is controlled by them as well, but their goal is not to cater to every individual. Their goal is to make Tyria a living world where things change and time passes. Even though I’ve missed a large number of content updates I don’t feel like I’m missing out on the story at all. I feel like the world is alive to some extent, although even that aspect of the living story could be a bit better.

I was not aware, perhaps my repeated absences have caused me to miss them. Thank you for the response.

A quick “what-if”:

How would Scarlet have been threaded into the storyline had the Abaddon fractal been chosen instead of Thaumanova? Could this previous possibility have any impact on Scarlet’s motivations?

Or is this a pointless thread?

You are seriously asking this with over a year to go?

Yes. Are you seriously asking whether this thread exists or not? Or did you think this thread was an illusion?

I honestly don’t think your words contribute to this. I’m merely speculating and did not ask for a fairly hostile hypothetical question that you know quite well the answer to.

For the sake of the forums I’d implore people to just let the thread die instead of comments like this taking it over.

GW1 10 year aniversary they will find a reason to sink another gw1 historic ruin under the water, or otherwise scarlet drill it out of existence… Thus far they have been quite adamant that they are throwing away the majority of what was laid for them by gw1 and going their own way

They haven’t thrown anything away..Old LA in Lion’s Arch is still there, even the fountain (despite a thread claiming it’s gone).

Emotes

I would love a drop down menu. I always wanted one in GW1 where there were so many emotes I could never keep track of them.

And yeah, city/outpost/guild hall parties were fantastic with the versatile emote system. I know in GW2 there’s the /me [words here] emote, but without an animation it seems useful for only specific situations and Role Playing. (Btw I love /me for rping, it is a fantastic addition.)

My level 52 asura character who has just completed the Battle of Claw Island was referred to as Commander by Laranthir who also referenced her battle with Zhaitan, which has not happened for her yet. I doubt this was intended. Just want to bring some attention to it!

Is there going to be a 10-year anniversary celebration in honor of GW1’s release date, April 28th 2005? Or is it going to pass unmarked except in the annual birthday celebration in GW1?

This is still for next year, 2015, of course. Still curious.

Emotes

While there may be many important things in this game, like profession balance, etc. I think that there is something that is important independent of combat gameplay mechanics.

Emotes.

There are fewer emotes in GW2 than in GW1, despite having 10 different types of emotes to do (2 genders for each race) while GW1 had 10 professions and 2 genders for each, thus 20 different types of emotes.
Comparison:

While we’re on the topic, why not go all out? I mean underwater emotes. Emotes we can do underwater. Even if it’s just /dance and /laugh, I want underwater emotes.

I’m not suggesting that a significant number of emotes should be added immediately, just that they should be a long-term goal as there’s zero indication that they are working on them.
