I chose my server because folks from my GW1 guild were going there and I joined them.

Also I dislike PvP so the only time I went to WvWvW was when I needed the maps for map completion.
So that’s why I don’t WvW: I don’t like PvP.

Why is the tone and style of GW2 so "goofy"

I find much of the story compelling and certainly serious. The personal story and the storymode on dungeons can oftentimes be very serious. For example, Twilight Arbor and Sorrow’s Embrace are very personal dungeon storylines for Caithe and Zojja (respectively). Sure, there’s levity in the game, but honestly it’s there in the real world too. A story can be compelling and amusing at the same time.

As to Tybalt I thought he was one of the best characters in the personal storyline because he actually had character. A lot of people don’t have character in the storyline but every once in awhile you’ll encounter a fantastic character that keeps you invested in the story.

I thought the tone of Prophecies was a little too “we need to do this straight faced it’s our first game people need to take us seriously”. I found that tiresome that there was little to no character or levity whatsoever. It was nice to find the same level of storyline with the added bonus of levity here and there in the Factions, Nightfall, and EoTN storylines. I believe that same level of seriousness and levity has extended into Guild Wars 2.

If you don’t like their humor, that’s fine. But one way or another, Mad King Thorn’s jokes always slay the audience.

I’m not trying to insult you, but reading your post I can only sum it up with that you are naive. Colin’s blog post stemmed from a torrent of complaints about Arenanet breaking their promises, leading them to phrase their words in specific ways, even citing that they do not wish to be caught out on something later on when they do decide to have another change in their philosophies. Leaving avenues open so to speak. I am certain another tier of gear will come, probably next year. I am also certain I won’t be around in this game to care either.

That amuses me. From reading this thread, playing the game, and listening to Anet I’ve surmised that they have broken no promises. If you wish that the game was catered directly to what you believe the design should be (or, more likely, what you interpreted their words as saying) then you’re the naive one.

- I make the difference between grind by design (e.g. you must repeatedly complete fractals to get relics) and grind as voluntary behavior, like choosing to run chests for money you could have by many other means. Important thing about Guild Wars was that there was no grind for power until very late at the game’s life cycle (skill power based on title). Adding new currencies for new activities and rewards effectively makes it so that power gain is exclusive to that content type. Scaling up numbers means that content has to be run repeatedly. There’s the thing that causes grind.

The items in fractals are increasingly becoming able to be obtained outside of fractals, therefore allowing people to not need to grind fractals (at least it’s bearable; if it was the exact same dungeon over and over people would be up in arms). Chest runs had just as much option and obligation to do them. I don’t need a fractal capacitor, and I don’t need the treasure hunter title track. I don’t have either of them because I don’t want them, honestly. And I dislike spending that much time doing one thing. But I admire those who enjoy doing that, and I don’t think it should be changed. I’ll get ascended gear eventually, don’t need it now. Grind is always an option, but I’ll be getting my ascended gear mostly outside fractals. (I do enjoy the occasional fractal run though, good source of money and can be quite fun.)

Also I’m surprised by the people talking about condition damage builds not working anymore…I use that and it works quite well.

They say that because they want to add more later without being quoted on broken promises. They broke enough promises anyways it won’t matter if they add a few more on right?

You’re quite cynical. I haven’t encountered any broken promises personally but that’s just me. And quite honestly the only thing I’ve disliked the devs doing in GW2 was removing the snakes from BWE1. I liked those snakes. Bring back the snakes!

If you expect the worst of people, you’ll only believe they can do their worst. I don’t think they’ll add another level of gear because I don’t believe there’s a point and they’ve seems logical so far. People on the forums talk about how broken this game is but I’ve been playing it since BWE1 and haven’t really noticed anything broken about it. Maybe I’m oblivious? Maybe I just enjoy the game? I dunno. I just haven’t felt as deeply and personally affected as the people on the forums I suppose. All I know is people rant about their play style changing somehow but I haven’t changed mine at all. When they explain their style I understand it’s oftentimes just some kind of grind in disguise which I believe Anet is trying to reduce.

Just what I see. Just what I believe.

They said they won’t add any new tiers of gear, this year.

Found it.

Colin Johanson:

Our reward systems need to be exciting and include things you want to earn over time, but we don’t want to force our players on endless gear treadmills for new tiers of gear we add every six months.

You won’t see another tier between ascended and legendary in 2013, for example. Our goal will be to use our existing reward systems and build new ones that are fun and exciting that step away from the stale gear grind reward systems you see elsewhere.

I don’t see the implication that they’re adding more in the future. They just used the example that no more are coming this year and said they don’t want to force players onto endless gear treadmills. They used the time examples to indicate the difference that Guild Wars 2 has with other MMO’s of similar design.

They’ve said that they aren’t adding any new gear levels after ascended. They are going to add ascended armor and weapons, but nothing further after that point. I don’t know the exact interview or whatnot but you haven’t given us any links either.

And today I completed my dailies without realizing it just by playing the game, and I was in Orr. Didn’t feel like I was forced to do anything. The dailies also help educate new players on aspects of the game they likely haven’t encountered before.

Information about a developing game is never accurate because you cannot predict problems before they occur if you are attempting to create new content. Working on something and having it released are different things. The culling thing was likely released then a large problem was found related to it most likely so they removed it. I don’t know. It’s not my game. It would be interesting if they released information with every single little decision that they make, but that would be impractical and likely hamper progress through criticism of content that has not yet been tested or released.

Essentially I believe you have good reason to believe your viewpoint, but I disagree with you. Have a good day!

I See No Tomorrow.7302

I trudged through and completed the WvW maps myself (and encountered a few less than friendly “invaders” or “defenders”) but I certainly don’t think they should count for world completion.

I think it’s a problem of definition, WvW is technically a subcategory of PvE which involves open-world team-based PvP. The fact that completing a map in WvW rewards you with nice little WvW rewards makes it seem like it should count towards the PvE world completion, but I could use the same premise to support the argument that it should NOT be counted towards PvE world completion.
It’s true that getting it is possible for anyone on any server, one just needs to wait for the rotation to occur. But that’s a ridiculous argument when one is able to get almost every POI, WP, SP, and Vista in PvE without needing to wait for something to happen. (Granted some areas in Orr are rather difficult if statues are active but they’re still doable with enough effort.)

The fact that you can be literally barred from gaining world completion without the help of your world’s fighting force in the Mists should be the major player in what is counted towards world completion in PvE. The only reason I managed to complete my WvW maps is because Sanctum of Rall was sweeping the floor with people at one point and I took advantage of it. If Sanctum of Rall was not winning (no idea how it’s doing now) and consistently did not win, there would have been no way to obtain world completion. That barrier which is not under the player’s control at all (other than helping out a bit in WvW) is the primary problem with getting world completion.

For example, if nobody is helping out with the events in Straits of Devastation, then nobody is going to succeed in any of the assaults on the Balthazar temple. Then you’re not going to get the armor from that particular karma vendor. Clearing the temple of Balthazar is not necessary to gain exotic equipment or even the runes which are applied to the Balthazar karma vendor armor. WvW, on the other hand, is a requirement to gain world completion (and, by extension, Legendaries) and as such should not be able to bar the player from completing it.

The only exception I can think of (correct me if I’m wrong) is a point of interest in the Plains of Ashford which requires a certain event to trigger before a player can gain access to it. (At least when I did it about two or three months ago.) That should also be fixed.

Are we all inbred?

I See No Tomorrow.7302

So if Sylvari are children of “Mother Earth”, why would Tyria birth this species now? If they are a natural defense against the Elder Dragons, why were they not birthed for the previous awakenings? Doesn’t add up.

My theory is that the Pale Tree is actually Mordemoth the Nature Dragon.

The Nightmare Court is actually right, Ventari’s Tablet corrupted the Nature Dragon in its rising, causing it to change from its true purpose.
But deep down, it still has an instinctual rivalry with Zhaitan (who wields undead magic which conflicts with nature magic), which is why its Firstborn are so bent on killing Zhaitan.

The Pale Tree is not the corrupted Nature Dragon, it is only influenced by the corrupted Nature Dragon which presumeably lies sleeping in the roots of the Pale Tree.

Okay, so stop right there. The only thing buried at the base of the Pale Tree is Ronan’s dead family, who were killed by the mursaat during the time period of GW1. He planted the Pale Tree (a seed he found among many other seeds in a cave in Kryta/Maguuma Jungle) on the graves of his family to remember them. Unless there’s a happy little cave with Elder Dragon champions (or more ridiculously Elder Dragons themselves) hanging out inside of it instead of just magical seeds (which is more likely), I seriously doubt the Pale Tree has much to do with the Dragons. Also, since we’ve met sylvari who aren’t from this particular tree, it makes it less likely that the trees are associated with the Dragons.

As to incest and inbreeding it would be rather hard to inbreed if you don’t breed. I don’t think people are weird for being in relationships when they’re both humans. They both probably had a common ancestor if you go far enough backwards (especially in Guild Wars where the origin of humans and other species are more obvious) through time. So in a race like the sylvari, it’s not weird at all to be in a relationship of another person from your own species, it’s just a younger species. I honestly don’t think another race would view the sylvari as incestuous. The only thing I can see as being incestuous would be sylvari who were born from the same pod (note that the majority of sylvari are each born in their own pod, further noting their difference and non-relatedness), i.e. twins. That might be a bit odd, but apart from that I can’t see a human or asura being like “eww those plants are both plants why are they making out?!”

You want to quit the game because you did not receive a permanent choir bell? I mean, I guess the point of the game for you can be choir bells but I was getting along fine before I knew it existed.

I don’t usually post that somebody is doing something they shouldn’t as everyone has a right to their own opinion, but…a bell? That’s probably the least I’ve seen somebody complain about. Now, I do think you’re entitled to care about it as much as you want and complain about it as much as you want but my personal opinion is that this is a little bit ridiculous to write so much over a bell. I would understand if it was something game breaking but I don’t see not having a bell as breaking the game. My two cents. Probably unwelcome but I couldn’t help pointing out what I see as obvious. If you disagree with me, ignore me, as you should fight for what you believe in.

Why do female Charrs have to wear a dress?

in Wintersday

Posted by: I See No Tomorrow.7302

I See No Tomorrow.7302

@Dinny: You know why there aren’t feminine armour sets? Because, like I said, Charrs wear the same outfits, whether male or female. This was a BIG draw for me for the race, and no doubt other people too. Charrs don’t give a damn about their appearance, they’re awesome warriors who respect only those people who deserve respect. Men and women are on equal footing in EVERY SINGLE ASPECT. This is a really big deal for me.

But ultimately it doesn’t make any sense to me that, despite them using the same armour as male charrs for EVERY SINGLE OTHER piece of armour or town outfit, they suddenly have this weird dress that goes totally against their lore AND doesn’t look right on them at all.

p.s., I have all the right to complain, so don’t tell me not to complain, thanks!

Equal footing does not mean that everyone has to be masculine. That’s just suppression of femininity to the extreme. To complain about ONE piece of clothing that happens to be feminine is the opposite of wanting equality. If a charr wants to be feminine (and who’s to say the entire species enjoys masculine clothing?), whether they are male or female, they should have the chance to be so. And vice versa. I think either extreme is a bit too much.
Nothing wrong with being masculine too, I just think there needs to be more feminine options for the charr, both male and female. Men of the other species certainly get certain armor that is slightly feminine. I would like to see more masculine and feminine clothing for both genders of all species though, I think that’d be nice.

Ability to switch the gendered clothing for both genders would also be super appreciated from this person. I happen to love the idea of my charr in a dress,* but I really want to be able to put my asura necromancer in the male version!

Yes! There’s plenty of armor, even sylvari cultural, that I’d like to switch between gender versions. If only, eh?

Stop posting misinformation, the top gear in GW1 was easy to aqcuire, and you farmed skins.

While max gear was fairly simple to acquire, gaining specific skins was difficult. I played GW1 since 2005 and I have only 6 sets of elite armor across all characters. I stopped playing GW1 for awhile because the amount of grind for titles and armor sets and weapons was immensely boring to me. Farming is the same as grind to me.

I have immensely enjoyed GW2 since BWE1 and recently got one of my characters to level 80. (Oh I took 2 months or so to get to 80! Must be slow.) I haven’t had to farm anything, or grind anything at all. Sure, some people choose to do that, but I don’t find it fun so I don’t. There’s plenty of other things to do. All that being said, Fractals is my favorite part of the update. (If not, my favorite update since the clocktower.) It’s challenging, has the possibility for moderately good loot, is random, and has some stuff I recognize from GW1. (Jade Sea? The Searing? Excellent.) If they had just added FoTM and no lag-inducing karka I would enjoy this update equally as much as I have so far. I haven’t gotten any good loot but the gameplay is fantastic. Maybe I’ve been lucky with good groups, but I’ve been enjoying FoTM so far.

Only problem I’ve encountered is being disconnected but I’m sure Anet will get on that eventually.

Stop already with the “free game” argument. They are making more money than they would out of subscription fees. Thats the whole reason for this game model. Dont be fooled that you dont pay monthly fee. If you havent payed any money in the Gem shop, other ppl have. They pay for the updates. They pay for development of new things for this game.

The update is certainly not free. If ppl wouldnt pay for stuff fro the gem shop, there would be no update cause there would be no money to pay for it.

Guild Wars 1 had this model for awhile before opening the cash shop and they did just fine with updates. (Remember Sorrow’s Furnace? No cash shop but it was released anyways.) Anyways, someone else on this thread had a valid point in that they specifically have not paid anything in the gem store and thus the updates, to them are free.
If people weren’t buying from the cash shop I’m sure Anet would still be rolling out updates. I just hope they can reduce lag and disconnecting next time.

I got tired of that other thread a while ago, but I’ll just say that concepts of femininity and masculinity shouldn’t stop you from doing something. Just because something is feminine doesn’t mean it’s bad and vice versa.

And it’s only deceptive if you view other peoples’ characters as depictions of the player themself. Just don’t. My characters are characters, not me, I don’t project myself onto my characters.

Yeah, mesmers can have up to 3 clones/phantasms (all are under the blanket term Illusion). Clones look solid like the mesmer while phantasms are see through things that look like ghosts.

Mesmer clones aren’t players, in PvE they are colored green as NPCs for those who aren’t the mesmer or in their party. The spell likely hitting you is the defaut autocast (first skill) of the staff weapon. When it hits an enemy it also bounces to allies to give boons. Nothing unusual. They probably attack the dummies to create the clones and the clones or the mesmer casts the spells.

So as mesmer clones have the same name as their mesmer creator, this name is the name of another player.

@I See No Tomorrow

Yeah, Garfaz had a turn of heart for sure. Seeing your warband’s souls devoured by demons has a tendancy to do that. I’m not saying the more current lore should be disregarded, I’m saying it doesn’t fall in line with pre EotN lore. That part I whole-heartedly disagree with you, I’m not sure how you come up with that. Finding one helpfull Charr in the Realm of Torment doesn’t exactly grant the whole race reprieve from how it’s commonly understood at the time. It was a colorful side-story. The Charr of Prophecies have little to do with the Charr of EotN or GW2 in terms of social and political constructs. They were like the Ogres you see around Ebonhawke in GW2: fierce and strong but hardly a race that knew how to build anything bigger than a warcamp, much less read a book.

I remember being surprised in EotN when we first meet Pyre and he starts talking to the group. Beyond some simple grunts and gestures, I didn’t even know Charr could talk.

They were definitely portrayed as a faceless enemy bent on pure destruction. I also did not know charr could speak but suspected they could due to the boss names (which seemed to me like charr creations and not human naming) and the fact that they had forged their own weapons, armor, and were organized (all of which is not possible without language).
They were essentially mindless shaman caste drones brainwashed to do the bidding of the ruling class. It was obvious in the first game that they worshiped ‘false’ gods. It was obvious that the leaders of the charr were shamans or some sort of magic user. That does fall in line for me, and that’s why I say that it acts as a coherent whole. You can agree or disagree with me but I stand by my interpretation.

But I digress, my point in my original long winded post was about charr society as a whole (and as we see it currently), not whether or not they were portrayed as good or bad in the first campaign of the first game.

I…haven’t heard any sexual moans. I’ve heard grunts and moans of exertion from player characters when they jump.

It doesn’t sound like sex to me. I’ve been playing this since BWE1 and I haven’t heard anything that got me thinking “goodness, someone needs to get a room.” People make noises. Not everything is sexual. Exertion can create an involuntary grunt or moan. And the involuntary grunts and moans in this game sound little like sex and much like people jumping far more than is healthy.

If you ARE hearing something that I’m not then we’re likely playing different games as I have all of my volume settings at default.

Humans: A dying race?

I See No Tomorrow.7302

snip

The Charr civil war was an Eye of the North invention, and therefore a purposeful prelude to GW2 lore. ANet had already decided to use the Charr as a playable race for this game and needed a way to bridge that gap. EotN didn’t come out until 2 and a half years after Prophecies, and it was in specific anticipation of GW2.

The Foefire was actually localised to Ascalon City proper. The ghosts you see in GW2 strewn across the landscape are there for mob purposes really. Ghosts can wander off. You’re right they are like the Risen in that regard.

Saying all Charr all evil is nothing like saying all real people are evil who have committed genocide. That’s silly. All computer games have good guys and bad guys, it’s an accepted storyline mechanic. The Charr of Prophecies were no different from the other inherently bad guys like Titans or Shiro’ken, evil to the bone. It wasn’t until Eye of the North that their lore and characteristics take a drastic turn.

Yes, they were created as such. Then again, there was a charr in the Realm of Torment http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Garfaz_Steelfur who finds out his gods are fake and helps the player. EoTN was an expansion that established the charr as more than enemies but that doesn’t mean it should be disregarded. I’m pointing out what the lore says as a whole, not regarding when certain lore appeared. Yes, they were portrayed as bloodthirsty machines who destroyed where Rurik spent much time in those lands as a boy. But again, lore created two years later should not be disregarded and avoids my argument. The 2005 lore is in line with EoTN, Nightfall, and GW2 lore. It is still a coherent whole.

I look at it as learning more about a culture that was portrayed negatively in the past. I know it’s a video game. I know they use the ridiculous black/white good/evil mechanics. But I’m arguing purely from a lore perspective.

As it stands currently, the charr are not evil.

They are, however, responsible for their own attitudes about it – and that attitude seems to be for the most part about justification and insisting they were somehow the true victims. That is a problem, and is exactly why I said before that I’m not a fan of the Charr.

Which is precisely the point I make about them not being perfect currently. American culture now has terrible racism and oppressive practices towards Native Americans but that doesn’t mean I hate all Americans. You’ll still find people proud of ancestors who fought the Natives, or people who still support Custard’s actions. He’s made out to be a martyr. All I’m saying is that this nature of still disliking people after being terrible to them is a natural course of action that can be seen in the real world. It’s not a good thing. Still shouldn’t be a reason for indiscriminately disliking all charr as a whole.

I think people are forgetting the charr civil war. When that occurred, the charr were freed from the oppression of the Shaman Caste. What does that mean? Well, as one person said, they can’t wait for humans to cast off gods and become a technologically advanced race that uses science and reasoning to go forth. Is that not the story of the charr?
They were oppressed by the Shaman Caste which controlled everything in charr society. The shaman caste enjoyed war, oppressed females, and generally anything that did not need their magic. So once the Shaman Caste was overthrown, the charr could portray themselves as they truly are. Don’t hold all germans responsible for the holocaust. Sure, they have a responsibility to accept what happened and make reparations even if they don’t want to (same with modern Americans with respect to Native Americans and the genocide that occurred there). In a similar vein, the charr are coming into being as a race that has thrown off oppression and grown stronger because of it.

I honestly don’t understand all of the charr hate in the game. I played GW1 when it first came out and didn’t like the charr much at all either. Yet learning that what we fought in GW1 was the same thing that charr revolutionaries fought decades after the Great Destroyer’s defeat changed my opinion of them. Heck, even the names of the flame legion NPCs match the names of charr enemies in GW1. Charr are not inherently bad. It’s only been 250 years, which is enough time for technological advancement but as a culture they are similar (not the same). 250 years ago is 1762. The genocide of Native Americans took place a few decades after that, but today there is still oppression and racism towards them (just look at halloween costumes and the sports team known as the ‘Redskins’. And have you heard of what happens on reservations? Terrible. Popular culture today is blatantly racist towards them. But I digress). You think the charr are going to let go of being against humans that quickly? No. Humans also aren’t going to let go of hating charr that quickly either. (As a whole obviously, there have been humans and charr who got along.)

Oh and one more thing: the Foefire was pretty dang bad. It was not just one city, that’s just where it occurred. It hit the entirety of old Ascalonian territory, you’ll find lots of ghosts outside of Ascalon City nowadays. The souls are tortured and have no free will, they speak only because of the nature of the curse that is upon them. Them attacking people is alike to the Risen of Zhaitan attacking people. They don’t really choose to do it.

Saying that all charr are evil is like saying that all Americans are evil or all Germans or any group of people that has ancestors who committed genocide is evil. That’s simply not the case. But the charr do need to make some progress with making reparations, just as humans do. They’re not blameless. Their ancestors also took charr lands from the charr.

Oh, also what’s with Asura somehow managing to spontaneously evolve the ability to grow hair? ArenaNet should have been braver here and stuck to their original artistic vision, making all Asura bald. They could have added other, more interesting distinguishing cranial features than hair, such as ridges etc. Instead, all Asura with hair look like they’re wearing badly fitted wigs to me.

Vekk’s got hair. He was in GW1. http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/File:Vekk.jpg and so do other asura from GW1 http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/File:Asura_child_f.jpg

As to those who choose to play a character that’s not their own gender I’ve already stated my opinion: let them have their own reason, even if it’s something as base as starting at a character’s behind. Telling people their reason is wrong is full of the idea that you know better than they do what they should do. Which is simply not the case.
I have 6 characters, half female and half male. They’re characters and not representations of myself, and as a result I view them as fictional people who are not me. Would some of you have a problem if a male author wrote a story involving both male and female characters? I think not. In many cases that is what is going on here.

Everyone has their own reasons. As someone said earlier, I find it odd when people think they know why other people do a certain thing. And to the person who said there are no women running about with male avatars? Read peoples’ responses in this thread and find yourself obviously wrong.

And those saying that ‘men think about sex all the time’ are subtly implying (or not so subtly in the case of some people) that women have zero or hidden sex drive. Which is not true, almost all humans (unless asexual) tend to have some kind of sex drive.

But honestly folks, you’re coming up with reasons why other people do things as though you’re an expert on them. The only person you can actually speak for is yourself, so please don’t insult others by explaining why men or women do something. Like the folks saying “Oh yes, females seem to make characters that resemble themselves because they’re more vain” is incredibly sexist and assumes so much.

Half of my characters are female and the other half are male. I love them all equally. I created them as characters, not as representations of myself. As a fiction writer it never really occurred to me to create a version of me inside a video game, my personal opinion on that is that it’s a little creepy.

Now kindly stop pretending to be an expert on people you don’t know and speak for yourself instead of others. (Aimed at, of course, the people in this thread who are acting like this, not those who are speaking for themselves.)

Armour in GW2 is largely bland/underwhelming

I played GW1 since 2005 and honestly hated all of the FoW sets. There was certainly good armor in GW1, many sets I wished were available at max armor. Ancient was probably my favorite type once Nightfall came along.
In my opinion, the GW2 armor matches the excellent looks if not exceeds the looks of the first game. Many sets of cultural armor is stunning and the dungeon armor is excellent. Not to mention crafted armor which I’ve seen but not been able to craft (as I’ve been lazy with crafting xD).
But yes, more armor skins would be good. This is just the beginning, I’m sure we’ll get more armor as time goes on. The game is about 2-3 months old, give it time.

Dynamic Level Adjustment

Well I’m a level 74 who gets leveled down to 6 or 9 in Plains of Ashford and I can pretty much kill things with extreme ease. The current level down system works well, I’m significantly more powerful that a normal level 6 or 9. I don’t think there needs to be any improvement.

I have 3 male characters and 3 female characters. None of them resemble me, in fact, only one is human. In an RPG I create characters, not representations of myself. Characters I create are people in my mind and as a result they happen to be male or female. If you can’t identify with genders other than your own then it’s going to be difficult for you.
I understand completely that some people like making avatars of what they themselves wish to be. And that’s all well and good, but in most video games the gender and character is already chosen for me, I like having the ability to create.

Yes, I’ve done the tower on a level 73, a level 13, and a level 9. All received the exotic level 80 slippers.

Why do GW2 players have to be told what is supposed to be fun?

To each their own I suppose. If you aren’t having fun playing the game, why play? It leaves the game with more people online who are enjoying the game instead of complaining within the game. I certainly enjoy all of the aspects that are newer to me than other MMOs that I’ve played, and the world is definitely more interesting to me than some of the other MMOs where there is no difference in an area ever at any time. But that’s just me. To others it appears stale and boring with the lack of a true repetitive event (as that’s why other MMOs are addicting) other than crafting.

Honestly, if you don’t think they actually achieved all they said they would, then do something else. Telling everyone else how they failed is like those other people telling you how to play: it’s pure opinion. I personally haven’t found any difficulty finding a way to have fun every time I play, but I can understand that those who don’t find the same things interesting that I do won’t have the same experience.

Definitely one of the better games I’ve played. And as Vorch said, this is where the real work begins. There is so much more in the future. (“But that’s not now!” Your point? That it needs everything it will ever contain right now? That would certainly be nice but it was never going to happen.)

And WoW? I understand the constant comparisons, and I honestly never liked WoW, but I think we should compare the game to itself and nothing else. I’m sure WoW has improved over the years it’s been in existence. So has every other long lasting MMO. GW2 will likely be very different in a number of years, and I’m looking forward to the ride.

This is the kinda logic i really do not agree with. If something isn’t satisfactory by someone’s standards they should at least be able to voice what they think… If people didn’t try to foster change when they encountered something they felt was subpar, nothing would ever be improved upon.

That’s true. There will always be two opinions, however: those who want things to change for their benefit and those who like things the way they are and would like to see changes but not those implemented by the others. I do think the game can be improved. But likely some of my post was created because I’m constantly hearing people complaining about things that I like or don’t mind, so I essentially said things that would not line up with my normal philosophy. I did not mean to imply that logic.

So half female, half male.

Experiment - My hour as a farmer

I bought my entire tier 1 cultural as soon as I hit 35, and didn’t do anything close to farming. Just played the game naturally. This game literally just throws money at you.

Sorry this just is not True.

At level 46 i have 1 gold 60, and i would need 3 gold to buy the level 35 stuff. I do not waste gold in game.

Its obvious to me that lack of currency is a deliberate move to force the player to buy gems to swap for gold.

How is this not true? I reached level 36 and had 1 gold and 80 silver. I bought some cultural armor then and there and since then I’ve made about 2 or 3 gold (level 49 now). I’ve just been playing the game by exploring and completing areas. You get plenty of money that way. I haven’t felt the need to buy gems at all.

So if someone changed race would they be starting the storyline over again? If so, what’s the difference between this and buying a new character slot with those gold/gems other than not wanting to level up again?

If not, then what’s the point? Appearance?

I currently don’t support the idea as I don’t see the point, could you elaborate?

I thought that the arrows were funneled into our hands through tiny asura gates where dredge were working dropping arrows through countless little gates in an asuran warehouse somewhere.

But yes. A quiver would be excellent, I just don’t want to go out and buy individual arrows.

Sylvari Names

Back when GW2 was announced in 2007 and I learned of the sylvari I created a name and five years later I am using that name in-game. My sylvari mesmer is named Sarvyinea. I created it before actually hearing any other sylvari names but I do think it fits ^^;

No real thought process, it just kinda got created.
