I don’t see anything negative about adding the option to duel, but for an inspect option I’d rather it show only weapon and armor skins rather than stats.

A way for someone to ping their skills and traits (like in GW1) would be helpful obviously but I don’t like the idea of people inspecting others and passing judgement on their builds without permission.

I’m not going to read 7 pages but I’m just going to say that HoT didn’t fail since many players enjoyed it and the developers got money out of it. That doesn’t sound like a failure.

You can’t please everyone and nobody enjoys everything but that doesn’t mean that everything is a failure.

I think the goal of a MMO expansion is to entertain people for more than 2 weeks… 2 weeks in HoT I had already seen everything.

Exactly. Some people were entertained for 2 weeks, some other people will be entertained for much longer (like me), some played for 2 hours and hated it. The point of my post is that something isn’t a failure just because some people didn’t like it.

Mentor Tags

I See No Tomorrow.7302

Commander tags are worth their money because of their squad abilities which can be used in raids and WvW. Although commander tags were mostly developed as a WvW thing.

Mentor tags are so common that people don’t tag up just for the heck of it except for world boss events where things get silly. Instead they’re used so people who have experience or no intention of spending 300g on a tag can help out in PvE maps.

I’ve been playing since headstart and I’ve never wanted a commander tag (especially with its ridiculous price tag which has no indication of skill) but I’ve used the mentor tag to help in PvE often, like help people locate event chains in HoT etc.

Save them for the next elite spec.

Didn’t realize there was talk of Anet introducing additional elite specs.

Yeah they developed the new trait system mostly because they wanted to be able to add new skills and traits to the game through the elite spec system. So we know there’ll be more in the future

I’d also like to point out that the wiki isn’t perfect: it has incomplete information and lacks information on some subjects.

Your point about changing ascended stats is a good example I think. It could easily be more visible but it’s not. The solution is, of course, to go in and edit the wiki yourself. It’s available for everyone to edit! Since it’s run by other players I think it’s already fairly impressive but it can always be improved. The page of ascended equipment http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Ascended_equipment does have the information for changing stats directly in the main body of the article but not in the very beginning. You could go in and edit that part yourself so people who glance at the article can get the information.

But, for example, the article on Ascended Armor only has information on changing stats at the very bottom of the page http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Ascended_armor and same thing with the Ascended Weapon page. If you think these pages can be improved then you can easily do it yourself! ANet doesn’t really run the wiki they just host its server. So it’s up to us to fill it out.

I’ve tried games that I ended up disliking so I eventually stopped playing them. I’m glad other people enjoyed those games but they weren’t for me.

I haven’t read the entire thread but from what I’ve seen there’s lots of arguing. What it comes down to is whether you enjoy GW2. If you don’t, then offering your constructive criticism is welcome of course, but since gw2 isn’t going to change overnight to fulfill your wishes it might be better to let your thoughts be known and leave. The devs do read the forums, after all, even if they don’t always post in them.

If you do like GW2, I’d say that you might as well play more and give it more of a chance, find which game modes you enjoy or maybe once you get to 80 you’ll find a PvE map that you enjoy more than the rest. idk it just seems like arguing like this isn’t productive and doesn’t seem to help anyone.

Just a note before I begin: the GW2 Wiki isn’t associated with wikipedia itself, there are lots of different wikis for different things. So if wikipedia itself went down we’d still have the GW2 wiki since that’s attached to ArenaNet itself.

I agree with you to the point that there ought to be more of an indication that you can use the wiki to find to find information. Maybe a hint in-game that says you can type “/wiki [item name here]” to find more information on that item. While the Wiki and the Forums are both on the top bar of the main official GW2 website I get that not everyone reads that.

I personally really like the wiki. I tried another MMO recently and while there’s an unofficial wiki associated with it, it doesn’t have very good information related to the MMO and isn’t anywhere near as helpful as the GW2 wiki. The GW2 wiki is meant to be used by the players on a regular basis.

The issue is that the information you’re seeking is already out there and readily available. It’s up to the player to learn about the game, generally. And all of the information from patch notes, future plans, and current database are all on the main official GW2 website through the newsfeed, forums, and official wiki.

It couldn’t hurt to have more helpful tips here and there though.

But yes the sword is so fantastic. I wish I had more tickets to buy more of these, I only have the staff cause it’s my favorite ;_;

Well, why’re you surprised?

Many real collections skins are gated behind silver rank adventure, all of them all harder than this JP. (Go try Sanctum run and see what’s called time pressure rush)

They even expect you to get 1000g or 100 hours of grind for 10000 presents!
What else not to expect? Seems like many people here has a good credit card rdy that they worry about tiny effort more than the huge grind. Credit Card can solve most of the cost problem I guess. I even heard some people complaining about new Legendaries require a Chak Gerent kill, that he said he’s ok to pay 1000g for precursors, but not ok to fight a Chak Gerent. (This is before the bug fix and nerf of Gerent ofc)

I’ve gotten silver on that Sanctum run adventure and I used to do the Mad King Clocktower for fun so I’m fairly familiar with time pressure. I’m aware that many things are gated behind this kind of content, and I’m not surprised (I never said I was surprised?) that this was the case.

I am stating that it shouldn’t be a requirement in the way that it is, or that there should be an alternative since there are many people who can’t do these things due to irl stuff, even if it’s as simple as not having a mouse.

The difference between doing JPs and getting a ridiculous amount of drinks is that anybody can get gold. Not everyone has the resources irl to do JPs.

While I personally enjoy jumping puzzles it’s very odd to me that Anet expects everyone to be able to do them since out of everything in GW2 there is the largest number of people who are unable to complete them for a variety of reasons. Motion sickness, physical disability, slow reaction time, etc. The timed jumping puzzles are stressful even for me and I’ve done the ridiculous thing many times so far.

If Anet insists on having JPs be required to unlock nice pretty content like that shoulder piece, there ought to be an untimed version of the puzzle at the very least that more slowly finishes the achievement but allows everyone to finish.

So to fix the things that you don’t want to do, you propose adding more rewards for doing the things you don’t want to do?

Or you just want to spend all your money on rewards? I’m not sure I understand. Festivals in guild wars have traditionally been the same event each year, maybe with a new item or (in GW1) some new quests here and there. Festivals have never been the place to get rewards from other parts of the game, except inasmuch as selling festival rewards can get you money for other things.

I’m thinking of halloween, canthan new year, wintersday, the dragon festival, etc. There is literally no precedent for what you’re proposing yet you act like it’s what has been expected from the beginning. But what I see and expect from the 10 years of Guild Wars events is mostly copy + paste, with some new elements each year but not significantly. It’s pretty nice imo

The visual nerfs were fine for a bit but now they’re starting to get fairly ridiculous

Which ones? I’m calling you out on this, because I totally disagree. This game needs more visual appeal, not less. :U

I mean sure you disagree but ultimately my point is that this reduction is Bad and ought to be an option rather than mandatory. Discussing which changes were good or bad isn’t productive and bogs down the thread.

Although I do agree with you, the game is definitely built on visual appeal and needs as much as it can get!

Does anet even play this game?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: I See No Tomorrow.7302

I See No Tomorrow.7302

I’m pretty sure most devs play the game. I think one issue is communication not only with players (which only seems to go one way: devs reading up on the forums and fansites but not giving much in return) but also between devs and internal development teams.

ArenaNet isn’t a monolithic entity but rather a company made of multiple employees. There are a number of sub-teams who do a variety of different things. I heard a rumor that it’s impossible to finish Nevermore because there’s an event required for it that’s literally no longer in the game. That’s not a communication issue with players but rather a lack of quality check and lack of communication between sub-teams. Whichever team removed said event didn’t seem to tell all the other teams what had happened.

The reduction of visual clutter is likewise isolated. I don’t think it’s something the entirety of Anet is responsible for, and while there are accusations that it’s primarily an “E-Sports” thing I’m going to not base anything on that. Sure, it’s an issue that sometimes you can’t see what’s going on, and somebody mentioned a boss fight earlier. But honestly how often do you need to see individual effects against a boss? Heck you don’t even need to see the other players, culling was helpful (and is helpful, with the options they added) to an extent.

I think the primary issue with the visual effects reduction is that it’s not an option but rather a poorly thought-out mandatory implementation. The largest criticism, and one that I agree with, is that auras are practically invisible. How that helps in PvP I have no clue, but it certainly doesn’t help in PvE. I can get behind the shape – eggs! – but I’d like to be able to see the effects. Checkboxes and/or sliders and/or dropdown menus like with culling would be ideal.

The visual nerfs were fine for a bit but now they’re starting to get fairly ridiculous

Making effects smaller does not make them easier to read in either PvE or PvP.
Example: the auras now look like soap bubbles shaped like eggs, when you can see them at all. And that’s a major problem: I find it very difficult to see auras at all. Reducing visual clutter is fine and all and some stuff wasn’t terrible imo, but when it becomes more difficult to see what’s going on rather than less difficult then you’re doing the job entirely wrong.

I think the goals are noble to reduce visual clutter, but the methods need some tweaking. Or, as some people have asked for, add a slider or check boxes for visual effects! That would make everyone happy.

Request Mob Nerf: Mordrem Sniper

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

I See No Tomorrow.7302

So I’m not going to engage with the mess that this thread has inevitably become and instead engage with the OP

I agree that the snipers are a huge pain. Should they be nerfed? I don’t think so. I’m not the most competent player so I’ve definitely been killed a few times by the snipers, but more often than not they don’t survive the encounter.

I think the purpose is to approach fights in a little more mindful fashion, prioritize targets that could be more dangerous and take them out. It’s like the addition of menders. If you don’t target them they can heal other mordrem. If you don’t target a sniper it can kill you quickly if you don’t pay attention. I think that the extra attention that we need to give to some fights is a welcome addition tbh, it prevents things from feeling like a walk in the park (or stumble, if we’re in Orr) like the rest of open world PvE in central Tyria.

Gliding in central tyria

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: I See No Tomorrow.7302

I See No Tomorrow.7302

While I would really love to glide anywhere I’m pretty sure Anet probably tested this internally and discussed this at length. My guess is that they want to keep gliding to the expansion so that folks with the expansion have no meaningful advantage in open world PvE in central Tyria over people without the expansion.

Plus you’d be able to break out of the central Tyria maps even more easily! People have already used these things to break out of the HoT maps, can you imagine what would happen in maps that weren’t designed to have gliders?

The only exceptions I can think of would be cities (where it’s hard to have any sort of advantage at all), and Dry Top/Silverwastes maybe.

@ OP:

They’ve changed the trait system a few times and it’s not the type of thing to compensate people for, the only thing would be that you were around longer than other people. There are already titles for that (Loyal, Veteran, Faithful) that you get on character birthdays.

As to the actual mobile spirit trait…I admit that it’s an odd thing for them to remove. My guess would be that they removed it so they could re-add it with a future elite spec that’s more spirit oriented. They removed the Guardian book elites as well for possible use of those animations for a possible elite spec in the future.

Since it’s so common people aren’t using it to show off, and are only using it for being useful. I haven’t seen anybody use it in a negative manner any more than the (far more plentiful) commander tags.

Besides, the mentor tag can’t be used in WvW. The Commander tag’s purpose is that it’s useful across both PvE and WvW as well as using additional squad-related abilities and supply information.

I See No Tomorrow.7302

I think this is interesting but I want to break down your points because there are a few false assumptions here and there.

1. It felt too easy and too fast.
At multiple times, the game says that Mordremoth is easily more powerful than Zhaitan.Yet with Zhaitan, it took a huge army along with foiling Risen spies, gaining artifacts that repelled dragon corruption, destroying it’s food and minion supply and lots of planning that felt like months to finally finish him off. With Mordremoth, we just had to leave our destroyed army behind, saw two people die, brought Glint’s egg to Tarir, discovered that apparently all the elder dragons have a weakness and took a small group of adventurers across the jungle to somehow waltz into the dream and poke Mordremoth’s mind AKA a big tubby lizard to death with our weapons. That’s just it. And it felt like just 3 days that this all happened with no effort.
————
“Oh, but we fought Mordremoth’s physical form in Dragon’s Stand!”
No, we didn’t. The Mouth of Mordremoth is supposed to be an EXTENSION of the jungle dragon rather than the dragon himself. And Laranthir even yells “Commander!” during the fight. So it’s said to be that the PC participated in the fight along with dozens of other players. (Which brings up another question: Does the Pact have multiple commanders?)

The personal story and the events that take place in the real maps take place woven around each other. Mordy was busy with the “Mouth of Mordremoth” event in Dragon’s Stand and was hellbent on consuming ley-line energy and killing the army of pact specialists who pushed through its defenses. It’s fairly clear that the Mouth is Mordy’s physical body (seems silly to try to argue otherwise because it doesn’t say it’s an extension anywhere), but since its mind can reside outside of this body, it can constantly regrow the Mouth. The attack on Mordy on its mind is similar to Snaff’s attempt at controlling Kralkatorrik and that fight did not require an entire army.

2.So many unanswered questions.
Leah Hoyer herself hinted that the ideals between the Mordrem Guard and the Nightmare Court would be explored in the HoT storyline (as said in the Mordrem Guard Point of Interest) yet it never was. They didn’t even explain the differences between the Dream, the Nightmare and Mordremoth. Why?
Also, what happened to Malyck and his tree? What happened to Taimi in Rata Novus? What happened with all those politicial problems involving Queen Jennah in Divinity’s Reach? What happened to the Pale Tree? What happened to Logan, Zojja, Kasmeer and Rox? Did they get out ok? Hell, we didn’t even get an ending cinematic of everyone celebrating. All we got at the "end’’ was the egg absorbing the released magic and a few strips of dialogue.

I think the purpose of the unanswered questions is to give the Raid and Living World Season 3 some story elements to play with.

3.Too much foreshadowing.
All through the story, NPCs kept saying ‘’What if this is bait?" “Is this a trap?” "Does Mordremoth know we’re coming?" And guess what happens? Zero. No traps. No ambushes. Not one event happened where I felt like Mordy was actively and aggressively wanting to murder us. And to quote Canach(he says this if you’re sylvari in Prisoners of the Dragon): Mordremoth loves surprises.
It’s obvious that he’s planning something big.

I think Mordy tried and failed.

4. No changes happened with the jungle.
Mordremoth is said to be the whole jungle. Yet when we finished attacking his mind, the jungle doesn’t decay into some swamp-like land or whatever. It remains exactly the same and full of life.
Not to mention the Mordrem still walk around the jungle and attack Verdant Brink at night like they usually do on a daily basis.

Post-Zhaitan’s death Tequatl still rises and attacks, and the Risen are still in control of Orr. Simply put: these maps take place before Zhaitan’s and Mordy’s deaths.

5. Mordremoth can take over any sylvari’s thoughts.
As told by the devs and Canach, Mordremoth has the ability to plant thoughts in sylvari’s heads. After you dealt with his mind, he could’ve just put the idea that he was dead into Canach’s brain.(And yours too, if you were sylvari.)

The sylvari player character is shown continuously fighting against Mordy’s influence. A sylvari can differentiate between their own thoughts and Mordy’s thoughts, unless they don’t want to.

6. Mordremoth is supposed to be the elder dragon of the mind.
Not to mention he, along with the other elder dragons, is said to be 10000000000+ years old. Surely he has alot of tricks up his sleeve.

Destiny’s Edge was close to killing Kralkatorrik and we already killed Zhaitan. Clearly the Elder Dragons aren’t used to the level of resistance that modern Tyria is putting out against them.

“But if he isn’t dead, why did all that magic release?”
Because Trahearne was literally plugged into Mordremoth. So when we destroyed the Marshal, all the magic that was stored around and even inside him was opened and released.
(And here’s something interesting: the devs pointed out that minions of Mordremoth can be cloned. We even saw what looked like Trahearne getting multiplied in the City of Hope cinematic. What if maybe, just maybe….the Trahearne we brought down wasn’t the actual Trahearne but rather a clone of him? …..Let’s save that theory for another time.)

That was clearly Mordy’s life and magical energy being released after its death. Although it wasn’t shown during the personal story, Zhaitan released something similar due to Tequatl becoming more powerful after its death. And in The All cinematic it shows Zhaitan’s energy seeping throughout the world in a similar manner.

“Mordremoth just underestimated us!”
Wrong. Mordremoth knows that we were strong enough to kill Zhaitan. If he had underestimated us, then he wouldn’t have brought down the Pact fleet.

“But Arenanet never mentioned Mordremoth being alive in The Road to 2015!”
I’m guessing because they don’t want to give away spoilers.

TL;DR We haven’t heard the last of Mordremoth and he will be back. He just wanted the Pact to think that he was dead so they would leave him alone and not get in the way of his plans. And the end of Hearts and Minds, Mordy managed to trick us into thinking we killed him, but it costed him some of the magic he consumed.

If you have any opinions on this theory, please reply.

And Zhaitan probably knew about the efforts against Kralkatorrik and how they almost succeeded. Didn’t change the fact that we still took down Zhaitan. I’m guessing the attack against the Pact fleet took a lot of effort because we don’t see that level of attack from Mordy again.

Right….. You feel the Elite spec should be an in game progression and you are 100% ok with players who have no done map completion in core game on a character having to wait until they are almost done with HoT in order to be able to use the Elite Spec.

You’re analogy to human starter area with level 80 is deeply flawed. It comes down to size of the game world and time it takes to unlock things. A new character in GW2 can get all weapon skills unlocked by level 4 or 5. It doesn’t take long because these weapon skills are part of the core mechanic. Now a low level character does not have access to full trait path unlock but they are on starter maps so they don’t NEED that. They play mechanics are there by level 10 with full skill bar unlock by 30. Given the number of maps in GW2 core game you could say by time a player has made it though 15% of the game they have all play mechanics unlocked and by around 20% you have the full bar. From that point on you are just making choices about what else to unlock.

Juxtapose GW2 Heart of Thorns and players who only go into the game with 0-60 hero points are looking at not being able to even use the new Elite weapon skills until they around 70% done with the game. So it is really entirely different.

Where does the 70% come from? You’ll need ~200 hero points to unlock full Elite trait line to make a viable build. Hot has 400 hero points in total spanning over 3 maps. We have been told expect to have to have mastery unlocked before progressing to 2nd, 3rd map. So while it took the casual player in GW2 perhaps a week to get their full skill bar unlocked, casual player in HoT is looking at probably months before being able to max the trait chain and make a usable build with their Elite Spec.

It’s entirely different.

Wait where was it said that the total number of hero points in HoT is 400? I just remember them saying that 400 is the number needed to unlock the full elite spec traitline. Besides, there are four maps, not three.

You gain access to a full skillbar by level 31, and three full specs by level 71. You only have full access to skills and specs by level 80, or earlier if you managed to do enough hero point challenges.

Unlocking the trait to equip the elite spec gives immediate access to the elite spec’s weapon, which indicates that you’ll gain all weapon skills then. It takes time to unlock the remaining traits in the elite spec line.

And months is so terrible? It took me months to get my first level 80 after beginning at headstart back in 2012 because I had a busy life. And as you’ve said the size is smaller, so likely it’ll take a shorter amount of time to unlock everything. The doom and gloom y’all pull when we don’t have immediate access to something that ought to take effort is impressive.

And while I have a character with current world completion, I won’t be doing entire world completion on my revenant and yes I’m okay unlocking all HP in the jungle.

This is the point of disagreement that divides player son this issue. Some of you really believe the Elite Spec is something that should be worked for and essentially gifted at or near the end of HoT for players who have no pre expansion hero point prep. Some of us believe the Elite Specification should be a feature of the expanshion and it’s play mechanic a major part of our play experience though the game not some near end game reward for our hard work. The elite skins and weapon mods you should have to work for and can come near end game. The core play mechanics of the Elite spec you should not hsve to work though 70% of the expansion just be able to have full trait unlock so you can make a viable build.

There are things you work for in games (Mastery’s already gives us those) and there are things you should be given as part of the new play mechanics to make the expansion feel new. Elite Specs fall into the later category.

I understand wanting the full spectrum of elite spec abilities because I too want this. My reasoning is that HoT is a fresh beginning for character progression and entering the jungle is much like starting a new character: instead of levels we have masteries and instead of specs we have elite specs. Just like when the game was released, there was no easy way to get immediately to level 80 and have a fully exotic-outfitted character to play through GW2 with.

I would argue that HoT is designed to help progress characters and that building an elite spec is part of character progression. Just as you couldn’t walk out of the human starter instance as a level 80 with full access to skills and traits at the beginning of GW2, so too you cannot walk out of the Silverwastes starter map into Verdant Brink with a fully powered elite spec. The parallel is quite obvious and something that makes sense tbh.

I mean, Anet is trying to implement new and improved security for everyone’s benefit. Even if you just download an app like that Authenticator thing you can make it go away.

Why would you not have the most security for your account? Even if you’ve never been hacked, better safe than sorry yes? shrug all I know is that they’re going to keep putting the message up until you fulfill it. https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/a-new-way-to-protect-your-account/

[Suggestions] Gemstore Items

Nahhhh. Might as well add “Level immediately to 80!” and “Unlock World Completion!” and “Five Full Sets of Ascended Armor and Weapons: Fully Outfit Your Default 5 Character Slots!” to the gem store. And these are all clearly “pay to win” or rather “pay to not play”

The only thing I agree with is LanfearShadowflame’s point, which builds directly off of something in GW1

I doubt you’ll be able to rush through content for hero points because you need masteries to get everywhere in the jungle.

/begin sarcasm

I can’t believe I couldn’t unlock every single hero until after finishing Nightfall and EoTN! Why couldn’t they give me every hero so I could play through all of the content with everything unlocked???

What do you mean I have to level up my heroes and unlock each hero for each of my individual characters???

/end sarcasm

Oh wait, this is GW2. We’ve seen this before with other content and it wasn’t a huge detriment. We’ll live through this too.

Especially if you think of it this way: this is almost exactly how GW2 functioned when it first came out. You needed skill points to unlock skills, and you got skill points by leveling up or doing the skill challenges out in the world. When first playing the game you did not have everything unlocked and tomes of knowledge didn’t exist. Leveling a character required playing the game, and you literally couldn’t have everything unlocked from the get-go to play through the content with all things unlocked.

Same deal here.

Missing Mad Memories Back-Piece

The OP wasn’t asking for the activity to come back but rather to unlock the not-on-fire green backpiece if they had already unlocked the fiery backpiece. I think it’s entirely reasonable and something can be easily be done.

As to the activity being broken: it is broken not just because of the locations but also because of the coding that went into it. It literally does not function. And since it’s not high on the priority list, it can wait for next year.

How is this “too grindy” tho

I have at least 20-40 hero challenges completed on most of my level 80s already , getting them in HoT shouldn’t be that difficult.

I find the complaints about grind amusing since I remember doing world completion while WvW was required…200+ Skill Points. Unlocking elite specs is exponentially easier tbh

Zergs going for HP? That’s assuming each HP won’t require masteries to reach. I think things will be just fine and the doom and gloom in this thread won’t have an effect (especially people saying HoT would’ve got fewer sales if they’d said this earlier? really? lol)

But I too am concerned about the Herald and it being a more crippled elite spec before full unlock due to the nature of how Revenant skill unlock functions.

Why were these two topics merged, one is about gear quality inspection and one is about gear appearance inspection. The appearance inspection OP even notes that their goal is NOT to talk about gear quality inspection.

Some gem store skins aren’t in the account wardrobe until you actually unlock the skin itself.

As people have been saying, it’s possible to whisper people about what they’re wearing! And it’s easier than other games where there isn’t a function to link gear in chat. But I understand the want for something like this. I don’t think it would be a bad thing (unlike gear inspect). It would be something that could be in the right click drop down menu on a character portrait of someone you’ve selected. It could just dump the chat codes into a game message.

Personally I know it’s nice when people reach out to ask but honestly I can’t see any harm in a feature like this.

As long as you have exotic gear — which has been in the game since launch — you should be able to participate in the new content, and exotic isn’t difficult to get at all. You can either buy it with karma or use gold to buy it off the trading post.

Removing Twice-Told Legend: A Grim Picture

I See No Tomorrow.7302

Yeah as people have said, Ascended was planned for launch but instead of releasing a wonky version of Ascended at release, they waited until they had it developed properly before releasing it.

Twice-Told Legend can still be obtained. The first reply says this. You just can’t make two H.O.P.E.s or two Nevermores or two Astralarias since they’re developing a way for people who have made legendaries to make “naked” legendaries with no special skin but with swappable stats.

Legendary gear isn’t really any better than Ascended apart from convenience and lack of cost incurred when switching stats (since Ascended weapons and armor can have their stats switched in the mystic forge). So there’s not really any gear treadmill since you can have top of the line Ascended stats and never touch a legendary.

Selling Gift of Exploration in HoT

I’m not agreeing or disagreeing, just here to say that they’re never going to add Gift of Exploration to the trading post. It’s one of those items that will never become tradeable due to its acquisition method.

Salvaging Gifts of Mastery couldn’t be terrible though, to get that Gift of Battle and Bloodstone Shard back for the newer legendaries.

[Legendaries] Aquatic weapons shafted

The Black Lion Weapons require far fewer resources than developing a Legendary Weapon. Black Lion Weapon:
- Model
- Texture
- Possible animation
- Make new simple Black Lion collection

Legendary Weapons:
- Multiple models for the new precursors
- Multiple Textures for the new precursors
- Model of Legendary itself
- Texture of Legendary iteself
- Animation
- Footsteps + other sparkles and effects
- Multiple precursor collections
- Collection for the specific Gift related to the Legendary
- Consideration of other components going into said Legendary
- Possibly other things I missed, this is just from the top of my head

The point being that it takes a lot of effort to produce the new legendaries. And they had to apply much of that process to the already-existing legendary weapons (collections, new precursor models, etc.), which took time for the old legendaries.

Also, new Black Lion Weapon sets do not include underwater weapons at all. It’s been a trend for a while now. I agree that while it would be nice to have new underwater weapons, there doesn’t seem to be much of a reason to include them since HoT likely has very little underwater content.

Economy Questions Repost

I’m not an expert on anything but here’s my interpretation of the dungeon changes:

Smith said that the goal is to deincentivize dungeons. That’s not removal or necessarily a death sentence. Currently dungeons are a huge source of income for people. They are such a large source of income that some people feel obligated to do dungeons for the sole purpose of being able to gain appreciable money. Anet’s goal here to stop this feeling of obligation and spread wealth-gain ability to other parts of the game.

I know that personally I dislike how dungeons are currently done (I hate speedruns, zerk meta, etc. and would actually do dungeons if these things weren’t present), and the reason for these things lies in the fact that doing dungeons is so profitable. If the wealth were moved elsewhere, then folks who actually enjoy dungeon content and its unique rewards will continue to do dungeons, but people who dislike dungeons and only do them as a source of income will stop.

That’s what I interpret “deincentivize” to mean.

Actually it says

We’re excited to announce that our third and final Beta Weekend Event will be taking place starting at noon Pacific Time (UTC-7) on Friday, October 2, and running until midnight Pacific Time (UTC-7) on Sunday, October 4.

Which isn’t a typo. Noon Friday is 7pm UTC, and midnight Sunday is Monday 7am UTC.

I dunno how you use “Sunday at midnight” but I usually mean “11:59pm Sunday plus one minute”. It’s a simple misinterpretation tbh

You realize that all of these patches before HoT include some HoT content…much of HoT is already in the game and thus would not need to be downloaded come Oct 23rd. Obviously there will still be stuff to download but not as much as you’re thinking.

Besides, patches screwing up and not being able to DL for everyone at once happens all the time in GW2. It clears up fairly quickly, and once it does there are no problems. I don’t see the problem.

Although ArenaNet goes out of their way to explain many of the utilities in-game that would otherwise break the 4th wall, like Waypoints, I think respawning ore nodes are literally just a game mechanic. I don’t think they’re magical/misty at all.

That was kinda my point, it’s a gameplay mechanic and not something associated with the lore unlike the Mists.

And yeah hopefully HoT reveals more.
