Thaumanova Reactor - Now's The Time!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I See No Tomorrow.7302

I was hoping for either Abaddon or Thaumanova, so I suppose I’m happy with the results.

Both fractals had incredible potential. Abaddon would’ve likely been a fight in Arah between Margonites and the player characters. I doubt we would have truly seen a God as the gods hid themselves in Arah on purpose for a reason. So making a character model for Abaddon or Dwayna or Melandru or whatnot would likely not have happened.

We already have textures for the Thaumanova reactor? Sure, but we also already have stuff for Abaddon. We have Arah already built, they just need to sweep away the time and voila there’s pristine Arah. Thaumanova is similar, they have the reactor/city built, all they need to do is clean it up and boom we’ve got Thaumanova. The primary thing that is interesting in both of these fractals is learning what happened first-hand.

In Abaddon, we would’ve seen the state of Orr and Arah at the time of Abaddon’s departure, which would’ve lent more insight into how Orrian society was before the Cataclysm. This is similar to seeing Ascalon before the Searing, something we see in both GW1 and in the Urban Battlegrounds fractal.
In Thaumanova, we will likely see not only the workings of the Inquest like at the Crucible of Eternity, but also the effects of Chaos radiation and the explosion itself. Note that there is a difference between nuclear radiation and a nuclear explosion. Thaumanova as it is currently is fairly stable, although still ripe with chaos energy. To see how chaos energy reproduced in the Mists works (which has not happened before), it will surely be quite interesting. I’m sure we’ll get more than “CoE v2”, or even “Uncategorized Fractal v2”; we’ll get an entirely new idea. The primary aspect here is the chaos energy, which not even the asura understand completely.

Was the graveyard foggy and was the woman wearing white? Theirs a DE their where you talk to a woman in white wondering around the graves (who looks normal) and offer to walk her to her home. When she reaches the entrance she remembers she is dead and freaks out, attacking you.

Im pretty sure she wasnt called Servant though.

That might be in a different graveyard, but I think Alleluia is talking about Divinity’s Reach, where there are no dynamic events or people attacking you.

They’re technically an organization that’s tolerated by the Council, they aren’t like bandits or the Nightmare Court in that regard. In fact, the Inquest backs a number of the asura council members, which gives them further credibility.

Most who aren’t in the Inquest do seem to agree that the Inquest is relatively a bad option/organization.

Someone who knows them better would probably do a better job of explaining than I.

Portals to the Mists

Question and discussion…let’s see how accurate I am or not.

So the Movement of the World states that Balthazar opened a large portal in LA a while back, or perhaps something similar. Today we see asura gates leading to different parts of the mists.

Are there portals in other areas that we have seen apart from ToA, Tombs, and things like that? If not, could perhaps all of the gates into the mists in LA be manipulations of the initial portal? We haven’t seen too much of the asura being able to access the mists on their own. Fractals is in LA in close proximity to the gates to the Heart of the Mists and the WvW maps, so it may just use the same route to the Mists as those other gates.

If I am wrong, then what are the ways that the five races can access the mists?
I can think of norn Shamans, humans priests seem to be able to open portals to reach the dead, asura gates in LA, and I can’t think of any instances of the sylvari or charr opening mists portals.

I don’t really know what my question is.

Why Do We Live So Close To Elder Dragons?

in Lore

I See No Tomorrow.7302

Kunnavang. That is all.

I always thought Kuunavang was just an overgrown Saltspray Dragon, but they may have just re-used the models. If Kuunavang and Glint are the same in the fact that they are both former Dragon Champions (although how a Dragon Champion could be corrupted by Shiro is unknown, Glint was only killed by Kralk and other champions require immense amounts of planning to defeat) then perhaps there is a Canthan Elder Dragon under the Jade Sea.

As to Canthan and/or Elonian Elder Dragons – there’s evidence, strenuous though it may be, of a Canthan Elder Dragon, however despite this all information tells us that there are only six Elder Dragons. Mind you, this is of jotun records so they may have only been privy to Elder Dragons around continental Tyria, and for all we know Elder Dragons could have been active across the globe for centuries without making prominent activities in known lands.

Aye, that’s what I mean. We only know what jotun and other ancient races from the last cycle say about the number and qualities of the Elder Dragons, we don’t know if they knew absolutely everything.

What I’m curious about is why all of the Elder Dragons mentioned have been on the continent of Tyria or near Tyria? If these are ancient primordial forces of destruction/world resetting/etc. then why are they localized around the continent of Tyira?

If they aren’t, does that mean there are other Elder Dragons in other parts of the world that have not been discovered?

I just think it odd that, even though we’ve seen (questionable) representations of the entire planet, we’ve only heard that Elder Dragons threaten the continent of Tyria. The Emperor has Cantha on lockdown and Joko is the largest threat to Elona as he has been for ages. Are Canthan and/or Elonian Elder Dragons still slumbering?

I See No Tomorrow.7302

I want to clear some stuff up and I couldn’t find a good place to get myself heard in other threads so I’ll start a new one.

1. The Fall of Abaddon
The Fall of Abaddon is not from Guild Wars 1. What were we doing in GW1:NF? We were preventing Abaddon from rising again. Not falling. Abaddon’s Fall is a reference to the historical event that took place in Orr back in the day, right before the human Gods departed from Tyria into the Mists. In GW1, Abaddon had already fallen. Thus, if this Fractal were to be researched, we’d get something predating GW1 entirely and would provide a look into the deep past of the Gods in Tyria. As to whether we’d see Abaddon and the other Gods is up for discussion, as we don’t know how the Fractals of the Mists are able to replicate the past, or if they’d be able to project the ancient shadows of the Gods to us, seeing as the human Gods are already in the Mists. Can there be two of each? Could a shadow-Mists Abaddon somehow realize that he is merely within a Fractal of the past? We do not know.

2. Thaumanova Reactor
The Thaumanoa Reactor has often been written off as just more “asura shenanigans”. I do think that it is more than that. Perhaps people go there too often to beat up our good friend the Fire Elemental, but I believe we need to reexamine the place. We don’t get much information except that it was a reactor of some sort built by the Inquest and used the mysterious chaos energy/magic. What is chaos magic? We have no idea, except that it seems to be dangerous and generally uncontrollable. As an Anet dev said, who knows what we’ll get if we access a chaos magic reactor within the mists?

3. Black Lion Keys & Waypoint Costs
These last for four weeks. I think that basing an entire campaign that will determine the next permanent (for the time being) councilmember and storyline on one of these four-week goodies is a little short-sighted. Look at each candidate’s character and, yes, even at the Fractal they may bring to the mix.

All in all folks, giving us control over the living story (to some extent) is a good step in my opinion. Let’s just see where this leads us.

Quick Question about the Dragonbrand

I See No Tomorrow.7302

Quick question about the Dragonbrand (forgive me if this is said in any of the novels, I have yet to read them):

Kralk was the large mound that we found in GW1 in the Blood Legion Homelands, correct? If so, did it only decide to start creating the Dragonbrand once it got near Ascalon? Only reason I ask is that the Dragonbrand starts in northern Ascalon, not in the Blood Legion Homelands. We know that it did not continue creating the Dragonbrand after fleeing from Destiny’s Edge.

Did it have willpower over whether to create the Dragonbrand? I had been under the (likely mistaken) impression that Kralk had created it unwillingly.

Malyck

in Lore

Posted by: I See No Tomorrow.7302

I See No Tomorrow.7302

It is worth noting, though, that Malyck does seem to have a similar level of ‘basic knowledge’ of the world to that provided to the sylvari we know through the Dream. So it does seem as if Malyck may have had enough contact with his Dream to learn some things – like fighting with pistols, interestingly enough – despite not having any memory of it.

It’s true that he knows how to speak, but he mentioned that the wardens that took him in taught him how to use the pistols with which he ended up fighting. They also gave him those clothes, he’s one of the few sylvari NPCs in the starter area who isn’t wearing some form of cultural armor.

What sylvari know inherently and what they gain from the Dream are likely connected, as you said. So he could certainly have had an indistinct Dream, or a Dream without substance and know knowledge enough to not die quickly out in the wild. He learns his values from the wardens that help him, the player character, and what the Nightmare Court does. I think what he learned in those short story steps created a basis for how he sees the world. Whether this view will line up with what the others in his parallel-Grove is undetermined.

Or they are just saving this army and story part for later expansions, maybe against Mordremoth.

I mean, they could. But he did say that he’d join the fight against Zhaitan and the rest of the Dragons. If it’s true that Mordremoth has influence where his Tree exists, then it’s likely that they couldn’t spare any other-sylvari to help out with Zhaitan.

Malyck

in Lore

Posted by: I See No Tomorrow.7302

I See No Tomorrow.7302

We know little about Malyck, so from here on in there will be a large amount of speculation.

Malyck is seen to have arrived in the Brisban Wildlands and eventually northern Caledon Forest by his pod drifting downstream and him subsequently awakening.

He had no dream that he can recall, and since the pod was not from the Pale Tree, it is obvious that he was born of another Tree.

There are many things he could be, then.

One, he could be a Firstborn of this unseen Tree. Since we have no other information of the other Tree and he promised to return to the Grove with an army of other-sylvari, and he never showed up later in any storyline, we can assume that there must be a reason he did not return in time to fight Zhaitan. One of these reasons could be that he was among the first to be born of the Tree and as such there weren’t enough other-sylvari to constitute a large enough group to send to the grove.

That’s obviously not the only possible explanation. He could be in a similar generation as our player character sylvari and was either not believed when he returned to his Grove, or the sylvari culture in his Grove is suffused with negativity. It’s even possible that the reason he was drifting downstream was because the Tree he came from was destroyed by a possible parallel Nightmare Court, which also explains his lack of Dream.

We do not know whether all Trees infuse a Dream into their sylvari. However, since we have one Tree that does infuse a Dream, we can assume that Dream infusion has something to do with the biological or magical properties of the seed itself. The alternative would be something Ventari and/or Ronan did to the seed before it became full grown, although how they would cause the Dream to form would be a mystery at this stage.

Curious to see what others thought of what I’ve thought of and what they themselves could think.

GW2 Becomming a grind fest

My goal was a jade weapon, which would have involved me killing things over and over again for coffers anyway. It has mostly to do with RNG but that’s a different topic.

And in my opinion it would be grindy no matter if i get it done all in one day or if i spread it out over many days, the time i spent killing holograms is still the same, and the task of killing 300 holograms is still the same

Again, I think we’re agreed on RNG.

Grind tends to be repeating an action over and over until you get the desired result. If you don’t focus on grinding out the mobs, and you just happen to kill 300 while wandering the world, then it’s certainly not grind. Why? Because you didn’t focus on killing holograms over and over again. I got to level 80 in a few months. Others got level 80 in less than a week. Who went through grind? I guarantee that the one who got 80 in less than a week is more likely to have done grind to get there.

The same result does not mean the same action was taken to get there.

I’ve enjoyed the story parts, but not the other achievements, I have my wings already, I’ve done the holograms, the fireworks, and the pinatas (and candy eaten but that comes with the other ones already). I found the holograms to be pretty kitten ed grindy, I even had a route mapped out to “maximize” time between projectors, I’ve opened about 400 coffers and have gotten 1 mini risen knight, candy, and fireworks, I have another 100 regular coffers in my inventory I’m contemplating to sell, since RNG dictates I never get a skin anyway.

So yeah, some people may have been able to get some of the better rewards and therefore participate fully in the dragon bash, but some people, like me, can grind their nuts off and still see nothing close to a memento of participation.

Yeah, the holograms are grindy if your goal was to get them done as fast as possible and only focus on that one achievement. I personally haven’t done the hologram achievement because I didn’t find it interesting and also found that I could probably complete the 8 achievements without doing it.

I would’ve been happy without getting the jade weapon or the normal wings, but as you said the RNG is a pain in the neck. RNG is something else entirely, and I agree that something needs to be changed in that department.

If the only way to avoid grinding is to not participate in content updates, then that means the game is becoming the grindfest. I could use the same logic in any other grinding MMO also and say that I can avoid grinding by not doing anything that involves repetitive tasks, but will I get the rewards associated (anything from experience to loot, to special rewards like the wings)? No, a definitive no.

And the fact of the matter is that no matter if you personally choose to grind achievements or not, the lastest content update is geared towards grinding, and may say something about Anet’s agenda for future updates.

I didn’t say that grinding is the only way to participate in content. I’ve been enjoying dragon bash, I just haven’t needed to grind to do anything. I got a jade ticket a number of knights just from opening normal coffers, and got a normal holographic wing drop. I will have the eight achievements once the story continues tomorrow for the shattered wings. I am thoroughly enjoying the content (in addition to the lovely drops), and still not grinding! Dunno how you’re doing things, but this update certainly doesn’t seem about grind to me.

I’ve never had to grind and I’ve been playing since August (or April 2012 if you count BWE).

It depends how you play the game. To complete the kill 300 holographic dragon minions, for example, some people rush through, farming the holograms and speeding around the map to kill that many. Why? I honestly don’t know why they want to do things so fast. I’ll be happy even if I never complete that achievement, which I’m not even halfway to completing.

People complaining about grind tend to be (but not always) people who are grinding through the game. I’ve never had to grind in the game and nobody else does either, but some choose to go through content quickly for the fastest rewards and end up finding that the game does not reward that play style.

The game has always had “Kill X creatures” for achievement points, since day 1. This is no different. I don’t need to do it to get the dragon wings, which I don’t really want too much anyways.

If you choose to grind your way through content, that’s your choice.

…why would the gates underneath Kaineng and Kamadan not be canon if we can access them both?

Sure, they use the same map and area as the one under LA, but there’re pretty obvious holes in the ground leading to the gates. And if the problem is identical story paths then much of the story in GW2 is false despite appearances to the contrary: how can Tybalt have been the one to sacrifice himself if the PC joined the Priory? The fact is that Tybalt is not alive in any timeline afterwards despite not seeing him in person. It is the same with the gates: they all exist, I’d just say that the event itself was re-used for convenience instead of the location.

Guild Wars reused many locations for missions and such, but that doesn’t mean that the locations themselves aren’t canon. The fact that the gates are underneath Kaineng and Kamadan supports their very existence. I doubt that it is similar to the ‘time travel’ quests that take place.

It would be hilarous if the asura think Rata Sum is on the ruins of a long dead race, when it is the ruins of older surface asura.

But what actually drove them down? They had a friendly existance with humans as far as we can tell. They arent a race from the previous dragon awakening. Maybe some sort of Asuran nations existed then, and they went to war, destroying almost everything they made. Why else would they need defense golems to kill anything foreign? The survivors had fled underground, and because of that they will do anything they can to avoid war now, even if they dont have records of why.

Perhaps it was when they discovered the great magic in the depths of Tyria and built the Central Transfer Chamber right next to our good friend, the elder dragon Primordus. It’s possible that their gate system at the time couldn’t support the lower amount of magical energy that they could provide at the time and were forced to move into a safe location in the depths in order to power their gates. That way they were safe from others attempting to steal technology and had the ability to go anywhere in Tyria as their network of gates spread as far as Cantha and Elona. Pure speculation of course.

Also, a type of engineering could have risen with the asura, although the tech that you see engineers in-game using is far more reminiscent of the charr than shiny asura tech.

I mean, there’s a chance that humans an dwarves are related someway.
I believe that norn are just shapeshifting kodan that embraced the human spirit at some point and didn’t remember how to turn back permanently into bear.

I don’t think that the forgotten and naga are related, no. Because Anet has said that they have entirely different sources and beginnings. I feel like the same is true of the forgotten and krait, but I can’t say anything about the krait and naga.

Honestly the forgotten seem very different from the other species in many ways, how they hold themselves, how many arms they have, they’re not water-based like the krait and naga are, and they are from the mists. They are very different.

In terms of humans and dwarves, if there were enough similarities I would think that some humans would have undergone the Rite of the Great Dwarf and become stone. That’s pretty much a dwarf trait at this point. Asura have many traits similar to dwarves but I seriously doubt they are related, same to dwarf/human relation (also because the dwarves and humans have different origins).

And the norn are likely related to the kodan in some way, but without more information I couldn’t say how. The only similarity I can see is that the kodan are bear people and norn can turn into bears (and ravens and snow leopards, etc.).

The naga from factions are probably still in Cantha somewhere, and the forgotten and the krait are different species. The krait seem to have originated in Tyria while the forgotten emerged from the mists.

Krait have two arms while forgotten have four.

Kinda like how the dwarves, norn and humans are all different species but share many outward physical similarities.

Oh and to be clear about the naga, Anet has confirmed that the naga and forgotten are completely different but there’s nothing that says that concretely about the relationship between the krait and the forgotten.

I think it’s more likely that the krait are related to the naga than to the forgotten.

A sexual relationship is a different story. However, given that we have magic and potions that can change your entire body structure, I don’t see that as a problem between species.

Sylvari pirates?

Sylvari are just as smart and opinionated as any person who is not sylvari. They can still be connected to the dream without adhering directly to everything that the Ventari Tablet says.
And anyways, being a pirate doesn’t exactly violate Ventari’s teachings. It just depends on what you do as a pirate.

The player (and other sylvari NPCs) certainly don’t follow every teaching. I mean, just look at “All things have a right to grow”: you see sylvari who are part of the dream, Soundless, or Nightmare court, going around and ending lives because of convenience instead of taking them prisoner or teaching them to be better. Seems a rather large violation.

All in all, Ventari’s teachings aren’t law. They are guidelines.

It’s true that the lore for the Guild Wars isn’t prominent, even why Orr was at the bottom of the ocean in the first place isn’t explained that well in the main storyline missions.

But if you do look around in Orr, and talk to people throughout Tyria, you can certainly understand what happened in the past. But I don’t think it’s the job of the main story to tell the story of the past in detail.

And since GW2 is focused on how the five races can work together, focusing on the Guild Wars (a primarily human event) could be problematic. One of the primary reasons to call the sequel to Guild Wars, Guild Wars 2 is because it creates easy continuity and it’s easy to see that the game follows the first.

The Guild Wars and their effects are still prominent in the lore.

If you look close enough, you can see the many/most of the problems that humans faced in the past stems from the Guild Wars. The Guild Wars seem to be a catalyst for a lot of other major events.
1. The wars left all three major kingdoms (Ascalon, Kryta, and Orr) vulnerable to outside forces, and that’s why the charr were able to invade or almost invade all of three kingdoms.
2. Ascalon was overrun and essentially destroyed by the charr, eventually completely crumbling and falling into the hands of the charr. That’s where we get the Black Citadel today.
3. Kryta turned to the White Mantle and the Mursaat to fight the charr and drove them off. But the White Mantle themselves presented problems and were eventually overthrown in favor of the monarchy again.
4. Orr was completely and utterly decimated by Khilbron, who decided to read a scroll of magic (urged by the fallen human god Abaddon). This magic caused the entire nation to fall into the ocean and pretty much killed everyone. Orr houses Arah, and as such a very powerful magical area. Zhaitan the elder dragon arose here and many of his minions are Orrian in nature.

Without the Guild Wars, it is unlikely that these events would have happened the same way. Ascalon may not have fallen and Orr likely would not have been decimated (but who knows how Abaddon’s influence on Khilbron would’ve turned out). So you may not see the Guild Wars themselves but their effects are far and wide.

I liked Rurik and Kormir (and Togo too, don’t think anyone has mentioned him).
To an extent. Their goals were noble, but as people said earlier they didn’t feel fleshed out nearly to the same extent as even Mhenlo was. And Mhenlo was basically just a henchman most of the time.

Rurik was fighting against both the charr and his father, which made it easy to sympathize with him, but apart from that he had less personality than tutorial text. Togo actually sacrificed himself, so that’s certainly honorable, but I didn’t really feel a character there. Kormir was a very interesting character but they didn’t do enough with her. I didn’t mind that she became a god, I liked that actually. But they really could’ve done a heck of a lot more with her character than they did; having the experience that she did in Gandara was enough to make any character fascinating.

Logan…well. He’s made mistakes but his mistake was kinda so large that people pretty much universally dislike him now. I’m sure plenty of people wish that Logan had perished and Snaff had lived, although Snaff’s death made Zojja’s character quite interesting. That’s another point: many members of Destiny’s Edge are well built and others are not. Logan is eh, Eir is…I don’t remember her having much personality but that might just be me not having a norn that’s gone through too much. Rytlock is almost universally liked. Zojja is fun, witty, and smart, so I think her character is certainly likable and possibly well-built. Caithe is interesting but seems too emotionally detached in some cases. There’s a reason for that obviously but there feels like a disconnect.

Trahearne isn’t actually a bad character although they certainly should have fleshed him out more. Unlike a lot of people, I don’t mind that the player character isn’t the leader like Trahearne is; it creates a consistency between players that they otherwise would not have. For example, think of the catastrophe if the player character had become a god in GW1 instead of Kormir: different player characters stood for different things, came from different cultures, and had drastically different professions. How do you clear that up later on in the lore? You don’t, is the answer. If the player had been the leader of the pact instead of Trahearne, first of all, what makes the player more qualified than Trahearne to lead the pact? The player has never been to Orr, and Trahearne has spent almost his entire life on the peninsula. He is, without a doubt, the expert in this case. He knows the land and the enemy better than anyone else. The player character is a hero from one of the orders and a hero among their race, but they haven’t proven themselves beyond that. Trahearne is well-known and renowned for his work in and around Orr.

I just wish Trahearne was more fleshed out…or chloro-filled out as a character. He had so much more potential to be a dark character, or a reclusive character, or a character at all. As it is, he points to where to do and what to say, but doesn’t seem to have much personality.

Now a good example that Anet knows what they’re doing is Tybalt, who is an excellent character with a backstory and personality. If only they had spent the time to flesh out all of their characters a little more, the game would be better than it already is.

Survey: Want Ascended Armors & Weapons?

Eh, as long as they don’t add another tier after ascended apart from Legendary, ascended armor sounds fine. And weapons.

What I’m really waiting for is legendary armor, though.

I don’t care about magic find at all, I’m just enjoying the environment and how it’s changed from the past. And even if somebody was enjoying the magic find boost, who are you to say that it’s wrong to do so?

I agree that we need more sweeping storylines but currently Anet is trying to make the world alive in ways that weren’t possible in GW1, and I want to support them as they get better. They do want to do an expansion eventually but that does take time, you know. Especially a game like GW2. People want so much in so little time these days, honestly.

Well if you’re not enjoying the game I suggest you go elsewhere. I dunno how people get bored of it honestly, as I haven’t been bored at all the whole time I’ve been playing, which started at BWE1.

I’m sure more content will come along as time goes on, Anet has said that what happened so far is merely the beginning. I have high hopes for the future. Also maybe it’s just me but I’m thoroughly enjoying the Southsun update.

Are we getting mounts any time soon?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: I See No Tomorrow.7302

I See No Tomorrow.7302

Why would you want mounts? I think they’re silly. Just because a bunch of other MMOs have mounts doesn’t mean GW2 should have mounts.

I mean, what are the arguments for them? You can travel faster? We have speed boosts, way points, and asura gates. Different combat? We already have transform skills, and if you mean a new kind of combat like land/water difference that’s something a bit too different from the core game at this point.

I honestly don’t know why people want mounts in general. A lot of arguments have to do with other games having them. That’s not a good enough reason for them to be implemented in GW2. I just don’t see the point.

Yup, I am having the same problem, error code 9:11:2:614:101, I have a normal account, and have had it since BWE1. I’ve been playing the entire time GW2 has existed to the public. I’m trying to get into the support site to hand in a ticket but it’s not working.

Grit and Realism: Your Opinion?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: I See No Tomorrow.7302

I See No Tomorrow.7302

I agree with the lack of variety in individuals in the game, you’d think every humanoid character in this game was artificially created…oh wait, they were. But that’s the problem; as Mungrul said there’s no variety in body type. There are literally no people who have any kind of extra weight on them, even though GW1 had NPCs who had this. The only things with other body types would be the risen, but they’re supposed to look dead and disgusting. This sends a rather bad message to people about body type.

And Anet said that they wanted everyone to feel like a hero. Well Anet, I support you on most things but this is actually kinda offensive to some people. You’re telling people that they cannot look like a hero if they have other body types than those portrayed in the game. I mean, congrats on having so many options in the first place, but these options don’t provide nearly the variation that is needed.

NPCs in cities all pretty much look the same. The men and women of Divinity’s Reach look like they were all made from the same clay mold. It’s kinda disturbing actually, so if you wanted grittiness or disturbing stuff, there it is.

Onto the other grit and realism: as someone earlier pointed out, it’s difficult to talk about realism in a fantasy world that gives you multiple bags with 20 slots each and the ability to carry more than five of them. But on the other hand, grittiness is not about game mechanics and magic in the world, it’s about the characters. Characters give a world life (even though environments do a good job too), and if there aren’t any characters that seem to be having trouble that isn’t essentially disguised as a joke, then there is no realism or character.

There is grittiness in GW2. Malchor’s leap, for instance, is the name of an area based directly upon suicide. Suicide is a tough and touchy subject, and putting it into anything is risky. Everything in Orr is essentially rather tragic in one way or another, but the tragedy is often dulled because the people there are just zombies with no character. They may appear to be terrible shambling tragedies but they feel like little more than the centaurs (who don’t feel like people at all, even though it’s quite clear that they’re intelligent beings) of the game. Malchor was done well, seeing as he’s a ghost.

Also the soldier who questions whether the human gods are dead after you take Lyssa’s temple is one of the rare times where I saw some character in the world. That’s a big issue for these people, humans especially. I want to see more of Zhaitan’s and the other dragons’ abilities to manipulate people beyond just physical manipulation. Abaddon’s corruption in GW1 in many ways is a good example of this, and seeing that he was behind Khilbron’s and Shiro’s corruption was excellent. We don’t get too much of that here.

I like the levity of the game, there is always humor no matter how dark things are.

The cities are safe places, which is why they’re often clean. I agree with others, they don’t really show the underbelly of society or anything too negative in general.

Terminology

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I See No Tomorrow.7302

I’ve always been used to calling them professions, or profs for short. Maybe it’s because I never played WoW and played Guild Wars 1 for years, but I don’t like the term class for professions.

Class just sounds…kinda ridiculous. I think I’m just used to the terminology of profession at this point though.

And crafting disciplines? I dunno, I don’t usually talk about them anyway, and when I do I say that I’m talking about “crafting” or, specifically, a “tailor” or “cook”. Never used a word for all of them together.

Why Map Completion should not include WvW

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: I See No Tomorrow.7302

I See No Tomorrow.7302

It is flawed. I only managed to complete the WvW zones for good when luckily my server was suddenly sweeping the other servers into the trash. I kinda wandered around and just grabbed eternal battlegrounds then.

I agree though, it makes little sense to force people to explore three maps that are all copies of each other and a fourth that is more often than not full of more players than Orr is of Risen to achieve something that you’re only going to not enjoy.

Although what should also be fixed is the fact that those badges or whatnot are required for crafting a Legendary as well. If it was intended that legendaries were to be a WvW + PvE scavenger hunt, it would make sense that world completion require the WvW areas. But I still agree with you, WvW should not be required.

I feel I am ready for some new classes

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: I See No Tomorrow.7302

I See No Tomorrow.7302

I disagree.

There is no offical Shapeshifter class. Only a few classes have it, and its designed as elites. Norn is not a class, and also has it only as Elites.

There is no Dark Crusader class.

There is no light armor melee classes.

There is no melee shamans classes.

No Rune Priest

the list goes on. there are many different game mechanics that could be introduced. adding new weapons only add new 1-5 skills. thats not new mechanics.

It sounds like you don’t want new classes, you just want classes you’ve used before in other games. These aren’t new ideas. As such, it sounds like you just don’t like what GW has to offer in terms of creativity thus far.
Adding any of the classes that you mentioned (what the heck is a Rune Priest or Dark Crusader?) would just be taking the ideas of other games. Which does not bring the new into Guild Wars 2.

Besides, as someone else said, it’d be a balancing nightmare to introduce new classes just 8~ months after release. We’re not even at a year.

(Also, all light armor classes have melee weapons and the guardian is a heavy class that uses a staff or scepter for spellcasting. We have those things already.)

I liked the old Sylvari race concept better

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I See No Tomorrow.7302

Just one thing about dwarves folks: there are already dwarves in Guild Wars. They’re just all stone now. When dwarven culture and norn culture were in the same game (Guild Wars: Eye of the North), their cultures were different. They were similarly different to asura.

On topic: while elves are interesting, they tend to be an overused concept. Most elven concepts (old race, used to be dominant but is relatively small now) have been used for humans. Humans look significantly like elves due to elves looking pretty much almost exactly the same as humans. Norn are rather uncreative in design in my opinion but different enough that they can pass it believably.
Sylvari are a new concept that, while they may have some elven tropes (trees and magic!) the rest of them is fairly different.

The old design of the sylvari made them look like elves. Elves are relatively uncreative in design and would have been criticised greatly. Besides, the old sylvari design did not really look like it grew from a tree, honestly. Their appearance needs to fit the lore.

(Which is why we need buff women Norn and shapely men Norn. The differences are disheartening.)

So... Why can't I combine stacks?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: I See No Tomorrow.7302

I See No Tomorrow.7302

Because they’re not stacks. You don’t have 50 axes. You have an ax that wears down and is useless when you get that number of uses. You can’t stack weapon axes. You can’t stack the axe you’re using to harvest, because it’s 1 axe, that you eventually where down.

So the concept of sharpening the tool is beyond the realm of possibility? Let’s put a little common sense here. Thanks.

They were using common sense, they were pointing out that the particular tool is a single tool. You also didn’t say anything about sharpening in your original post xD
Besides, how can throwing two axes together make one axe that is extra sharp?

I’d like to have a gathering tool with more uses too, but they aren’t stacks ^^
