Perfect examples: On SoR, Melandru and Dwayna have been bugged for weeks. We get to do them directly after a patch and then they go to a bugged state again. The entire Warmaster Chan chain to kick off retaking Arah is bugged right now as well as the escort of downed crew to Meddler’s Waypoint.

2 of those are major events and some of the best ways to acquire Dragonite and they are completely useless at the moment and it affects making Ascended Weapons adversely. This stuff needs to be fixed.

I love how the people that are complaining about weapon damage for certain stat combos is useless are also the ones saying the game is “faceroll easy”. Which one is it? If it’s faceroll easy, it doesn’t matter what you pick. If that isn’t the case then it does matter which stat combos are the best.

Scarlet's Story: What was learned this patch?

in The Nightmare Within

Iason Evan.3806

I got the same thing out of it. I loved the cut scenes. They were well done and it was good to get a recap for people that may have missed previous events. Would have been nice to get a taste of motives like the OP said though.

Scarlet bores me just like Joker bored me in the second Batman movie. Just wanting to watch the world burn isn’t a compelling reason. It’s why Darth Vader is always infinitely more interesting than Emperor Palpatine: He has conflict about what he is doing while the Emperor only cares for personal power at the expense of all else.

What is Scarlet’s conflict? I can’t make a connection with a character that has only one side.

It seems to me she is more a MacGuffin to propel the content so we have baddies to kill. That is fine, but then why make this thing last so long?

I am just chalking this one up to you guys learning how to do the living world stuff. It was a bold decision and it seems the writing team got left holding the bag. I appreciate deeply that you guys took a chance on doing something new. It means more than if you had just gone with a new zone at level cap and added some daily quests. I know you guys will get better at it too.

I don’t necessarily believe the living world teams are comprised largely of coders in the first place though. At least that seems to be implied by some of what’s said. Not everyone who designs games codes.

I have already addresed that issue Vayne. I am not saying an LS team should work on it. I am saying that a team should work for a whole cycle to release a patch that only addresses bugs within the game. At this point you are arguing things that are not a part of my thread. If you want to address the issue in the context of my OP then fine. If not please stay on topic. I don’t want it derailed. The same goes for everyone else please. I want to know if the community would like a patch dedicated solely to squashing bugs. Please stay on topic and keep it constructive! Thanks.

You can go back throughout my post history. I am always effusive in my praise and constructive in my criticism and never rude. I am not complaining for the sake of whining. I am trying to add to the discussion of making the game better by bringing up what I think are salient points and ideas that could help to achieve those ends.

I think you’re missing my point. These bugs are being worked on by people. Bugs are fixed with every single patch. Every time a bug is fixed, it gets added into the Living World patches. If the same number of people are working on bugs, then the same number of bugs will be fixed.

In other words, if you’re not diverting Living World teams to working on bugs, the bugs won’t be fixed any faster, even if you do only put out a bug fix.

What you’d have to do is take the teams that are working on certain bugs off those bugs and put them on the specific bugs you’re talking about.

For example, we just had a patch today which, according to the notes, gives performance improvement in large scale battles. I haven’t tried it myself, but if it does what they say, is that more important than a single dynamic events in Bloodtide Coast?

By design, it would be a team equipped to handle such issues and would work for four months to just squash bugs that have plagued the game since day 1. That would be the update we would get for that 2 week time frame. If it is just one bug like you are talking about, then no it isn’t worth it, but I am talking about them tackling myriad issues in one patch.

It’s really simple: You either think a team should be dedicated to this or not.

But what should the rest of the employees do during that time then?
All those that can’t fix bugs?
Should they just sit down and do nothing?

If not, why can’t they release both fixes and new content? As they are doing now?

Those teams have an extra two weeks for their content patch? Little bugs just keep creepin in. Sure, there are a lot of bugs the teams tackle, but there are also myriad bugs that have been around for a long time. I want to see a large portion of them addressed. It takes time, but that is why I am saying a team should be dedicated to it.

Sorry Vayne but you are arguing something completely different from what is being discussed.

The OP is asking for one of the LS updates to instead focus completely on polish, and you come into the thread talking about quality of life changes that have happened in the past. Those may be loosely connected, at a stretch, but they certainly don’t preclude each other.

You are correct that there probably aren’t 1000’s of threads, however I bet if you read the LS collaborative development thread you can find ~1000 posts that ask for the content to either be slowed down, polished, or both.

QoL also isn’t really polish… polish would be fixing the DE’s that still bug since launch… look at JQ… currently just taking from world bosses:

Dwayna
Golem
foulbear
eye of zhaitan

All bugged, most of the week.

Or the 100’s of clipping issues that exist. Or the lack of dyes on recent armors. Or the still numerous tooltip bugs. The list goes on, but I would be here all night.

A patch that focused 100% on polish would be a great thing for everyone. Plus it would give us 2 weeks without scarlet, it’s really a win, win for everyone.

^ Pretty much this. the bugs just kind of add up. this game is in wonderful shape. I don’t want to come off sounding like I think it is a mess. Far from it. That doesn’t mean however that I think nothing should happen. I think a team (not saying the LS team) should spend a few months working on a patch that gets released and all it addresses is bugs and polish. No games have ever really done it on a large scale, yet every game I have ever played I see a lot of posts and talk about how cool it would be if a majority of issues were tackled.

I do think they address a lot of things fairly frequently, but there are bugs and annoyances that have been in the game for quite a while. I’d cite them, but I see a lot of familiar names here and it tells me you guys play enough to know what I am talking about.

Would anyone be against just having one of the teams focus on polish for one of the updates? I love that little things here and there get fixed every update, but I am talking about having one of the updates focus on just squashing many of the large and small issues plaguing the game. Don’t get me wrong, the game plays great, but sometimes there are so many little issues it can outshine some of the amazing qualities the game has.

If you are for it, say so.

If you think it’s a waste of time, say so, but leave quality reason why you think it doesn’t need to happen. Thanks all.

That’s why I do Fractals. Fractal weapons are like weapons in GW1. The only way you can get them is from a drop. I don’t mind RNG when it’s getting stuff you are playing. I hate RNG when it has to do with the Forge or the BLTC gem shop.

Fractals have to make it this year. Period. We voted for Ellen Kiel and she promised a Fractal. I don’t want to hear any, “politics” as an argument. It was a game decision made by the devs. If it doesn’t come out this year we should get a re-vote because she won’t deserve to be in office anymore and this isn’t a case of art imitating life.

The ascended armor and precursor things are on the top of a lot of people’s lists. The said the precursor thing might not make the cut for this year which is a shame because they have been talking about it since January.

I’d prefer if they made it so you could buy ascended weapons from a laurel vender using a rather large requirement first. 50 laurels, 100 ectos, 10 gold and 250K karma would work.

I think you should be able to acquire ascended dungeon weapons and armor as well. You have to take an existing piece of exotic armor from a dungeon and get one of those barter items from that dungeon for 200 tokens and put it in the forge together to make an ascended version.

There needs to be Ascended Fractal Armor, and also WvW Ascended Armor. Weapons as well.

If Ascended weapons can drop rarely, then armor should too.

I think the root of the problem has been found. The LS and the PS don’t match up. Because of the iterative nature of the development of the game, the PS wasn’t designed to be able to give enough lenience to the LS because the LS didn’t exist when the PS was created. I would say that the iterative design in this game is 99% awesome, but it has created a huge issue when you guys shifted the focus of the design of the game. Because the two don’t match up, it is causing dissonance.

I would say it’s time for the LS to be altered so that the LS can focus on what GW2 should be about: Fighting the Elder Dragons. Go back to your roots and reshift the LS focus so that it matches up with the PS.

I think that is an easier thing to do than to alter the PS. Heck, put a disclaimer for the PS that says, “You are reliving events that have already happened. The world is changed now.”

I think where the failure is lies in the rewards. You don’t get nowhere near enough rewards for doing DEs compared to other things, because karma is not very useful. Also, doing something extremely short and simple like killing a champion gives the same if not more rewards than a long DE like escorting someone, so no one does the escorts.

We agree, this is something we’ve been discussing a lot lately and working on some various answers for, but I’m curious:

What rewards would you like to see from rewards? Would they be different when you’re leveling up than when you’re level 80? What would motivate you to want to go around the world playing as many different events as possible, rather than the same 4-5 over and over again?

Some of the fun challenges we are currently solving, but it’s great to hear peoples thoughts on this subject as well.

I think an example of a quest that is awesome but suffers from not having a “proper” reward is the one in Lornar’s Pass that starts with collecting dwarven relic boxes and ends with a fire creature at the end. It involves Bloodstone Shards and is a great quest chain. It really should be a Meta Event. This was the type of event I thought we would get more of when you guys were initially talking up GW2 years ago. I also think this is where events should have different outcomes in the chain based on how people do and they should be really obvious.

Another example of something that would be great is making Temple Defenses mean something. We only get rewarded when we take a temple. I think it would be great if we got rewarded more for defending the temples and that could involve Events that make groups travel all over the map that the Temple is in. The defend events could get harder and harder until servers couldn’t beat them anymore and then it would reset and we would have to retake the temples again.

As far as your rewards question: I think that longer event chains should have mini chests after each link in the chain and result in a chest like the one in Harathi Hinterlands for taking down the chieftan centaur. Another option would be a DE Medallion system with Vendors in LA. Yet another option is have the escort chains (or chained events in general offer crafting mats for Ascended Weapons and Armor.

P.S. You guys do a great job with the game, and I met you at a Meet and Greet at the Hard Rock Hotel in 2011 at ComiCon in San Diego. My computer crashed while playing the game and you fixed it personally. I had a great time talking and hanging out with you all. Good luck in the Collaborative development of the game!

I think a good example of the frustration the community has had with the story meandering for so long is what is coming up in the next update.

We are going into the tower. Just like we went into the Pavilion. The story hasn’t moved all that much in terms of what she is doing and we are repeating the same play style in the tower as in the Pavilion, but with a twist here and there I assume.

When we are told we are getting “an expansion’s worth of content”, I feel like the little details are missing:

1.) Armor vendors for those dungeons/Dungeons staying in the world.

2.) A story we can complete at our pace.

3.) The story progressing in a concise manner before we repeat a play style again. i.e. How much exposition have we really gotten from the Pavilion to the Tower next week. I don’t feel like much has changed in terms of an actual story.

4.) The weapon updates have been AMAZING (didn’t want it to all be critical) You guys rock, but I don’t think me just telling you that actually gets the creative juices flowing.

5.) Brand new areas.

6.) New skills.

I know a lot of this is coming down the pipe. My main concern is the little details. I have to say this doesn’t feel like an expansion’s worth of content even though I know that it was a TON of stuff you guys did this year. It’s just missing so many of the little things that add up to a LOT of stuff when you buy a boxed expansion. I also have a feeling if I was able to go back and watch all of the cutscenes I could glean what was going on, but even then I think the story is thin.

I hope all of that was constructive. I really love this game. I enjoy the heck out of it. I just hope that with these two week updates content doesn’t get skimped on and quality diminished from what would have been in a full boxed expansion.

Iason Evan.3806

I am thrilled we are getting a new dungeon. It will be a blast. I loved Aetherblade Retreat and the last one was really cool too. Here’s to hoping we get some real head way into Scarlet’s story with this one. I need a twist that makes all the pieces of what she is doing finally come together. I am ready for a milestone in this story.

I am also ready for some other things: Rewards that aren’t minis, dye packs, shoulders or gloves. Especially not shoulders and gloves that are the price of a full set of armor on the gem shop when combined. Where is the rest of the set for 800 gems? Do I get a copy for PvE and PvP for that price? Do they unlock in my Achievement panel so I can use them as many times as I want?

I am starting to feel like the gem shop keeps grabbing a little more than it should at my wallet with each release. It started to really show its hand when there were no recipes for the Magi’s, Dire and other inscriptions but instead we have to use Black Lion Salvage kits that can only be gotten through RNG or gems if we want those stats.

I am all for the Gem shop, but we keep repeating the same themes of items. I have zero problems spending 500-800 gems on FULL sets of armor. I have done it multiple times. Releasing shoulders and gloves for 400 when it used to be we got those in game fora meta reward is perplexing and I am being diplomatic saying that. If you release that stuff in the future for that price, it would be taken way better if it unlocked in my “Skins” panel in my Achievements Tab and I could use as many as I wanted for my account. The value, perceived or real just isn’t there for me this time.

Collaborative Suggestion: Skill Splits

in Suggestions

Posted by: Iason Evan.3806

Iason Evan.3806

Hey all! I would formally like to request skills splits for the formats of WvW/sPvP/PvE to all operate differently. It would be nice for skills to cater to each format style as opposed to having certain skills for certain formats be rendered useless because there is no place for them there.

Control: With the inclusion of Defiance in PvE there is no use for control. Weapons that are primarily control based should be changed for PvE or an option to actually use control during fights by changing the Defiance mechanism on bosses should be implemented. The current system renders this style moot in PvE.

Weapons: This goes with control above, but to see skills on weapons be different in every format would open up build options to players dramatically. Easier said than done, but I think it’s needed.

The ability to save build templates. This still needs a place in this game to promote diversity in play.

Damage: Currently the only style in play in PvE. Support has its place in my opinion and I like playing it, but I won’t tell that to the community and they have spoken. They only see others running DPS.

Support: I think this one is in a good place for all formats, but it would be nice to see skills on weapons tailored for different formats. It would open up new styles of support for all areas of the game.

General ToN Feedback Thread

in Tower of Nightmares

Posted by: Iason Evan.3806

Iason Evan.3806

My general feedback:

I like the two week updates, but it’s odd to me that there seems to be this “Open World Zerg” Template (Clockwork Chaos/Kessex Thing) going on here and that it’s the thing that is permanent as opposed to the dungeons that have been created.

The new Scarlet thing in Kessex is really only marginally different from the Clockwork Chaos one and yet they are both in the game at the same time here.

I like how there is a difference in the types of events we are getting, but it would have been nice to see the dungeon content remain. I know that two of them are coming back in Fractal form, but that’s my feedback: When you do new dungeons for two week content, Keep it in the game. Also, add tokens to the dungeons and vendors in LA. If you are going to make the content, leave it around for us to play and add in the robust features that are present with the other dungeons by adding armor sets to them to go with the weapons.

Dec. 10th Balance Preview - Updated Nov 6th.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Iason Evan.3806

Iason Evan.3806

I like most of the changes. I will list my bullet points now though.

Rangers need more pet control. Do it as a toggle-able option. This way, advanced skill level Rangers get more options by putting a check mark in the box for more pet options, and Novices get the vanilla controls.

Skill splits for different formats. This needs to be done. What is useful for one format is rendered useless for other formats. Playing a control class is GREAT in sPvP. In PvE? It’s not even an option.

I feel like you guys are fixing things that don’t really address the main issues. The core of the problem is that this game was supposed to be Support, Control and Damage. Damage is the only thing that matters in PvE. In sPvP it works.

I own my own Arena. I play a LOT of sPvP, but this game should not be balanced around sPvP. It should be balanced around PvE, with skill splits to balance sPvP and WvW on their own.

Underwater combat needs an overhaul. You have a world that has a TON of underwater areas and they don’t see any use because a lot of the skills are left out and the combat is lacking. Skills need more punch on underwater fights. Underwater combat needs to play like a dogfighting arcade game with a targeting reticule.

Eles need a reason to spec into one line at the expense of the others. Make every elementalists XII trait for an element do something that bars them from traiting in another element’s XII trait, but makes the one that is specced into really powerful.

Meteor Shower in sPvP and PvE needs to be able to be cast on the move. Not in WvW. It isn’t that way now because it would break WvW. Other formats shouldn’t be hindered because it would ruin one. Do skill splits.

Huge lack of armor in-game, cash shop rampant

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Iason Evan.3806

I would have rather seen the Thaumanova Reactor, the Aetherblade Retreat and the Flame and Frost Instances turned into dungeon paths with proper sets of armor and weapons attached to each. I think it is why they are being turned into fractals because then they don’t have to have an NPC offering gear with rewards. They make it a fractal and offer the skins on the store.

I like being able to just use my gold and buy the stuff off of the cash shop. They are good looking sets. I see what the OP is saying too. It would be nice to have one of these two week updates give us more than a back piece, mini pet, or shoulder skin and get a proper reward for it in an armor set at the end of achieving the meta.

Doing that for one two week thing would be magnificent and the players would appreciate it. No one is saying, “Never offer another set of armor on the cash shop” here.

It is my opinion that they offer a great variation of weapon skins as cash shop/drops/RNG etc. You have options. It would be nice to have options for the armor sets too. Fractal Armor? Why isn’t that a thing yet?

It would also be nice to start getting sets that go with the Achievement stuff we got and the shoulder pieces and helmets we have gotten. Let’s fill those sets in.

Wow, this just goes to show how subjective aesthetics are. I rather like the change, and am eyeing the T3 light. On the other hand, I can see being bummed about losing some of the shininess and detail, though I guess I enjoy the slightly more matte look personally.

I am with you. I think the actual detail in the armor has gone up while the shininess has gone down which was totally great in my opinion. I have it dyed in such a way that the armor actually looks like it is growing out of my body. It’s pretty amazing. I am not as passionate as some people here are so I don’t mind if it changes back.

Iason Evan.3806

This change has actually been needed since launch. As noted, we’ve already been using these difficulty mobs in content, though in a more limited way. That was due primarily to the fact that both species ended up being named “Veteran”, but one was solo-friendly, the other was not, and all it did was cause confusion. There will be more updates in the future to bring the rest of the species at this difficulty level in line with this change.

Update the loot, too, please. Greater difficulty should mean greater reward. Do not give them loot boxes/bags. I want my account-wide magic find to actually mean something, please.

^ Can’t really add anything more to this except that it should happen BEFORE all the other species of Elite make it into the game. Kill two birds with one stone so that when they are introduced it’s looked at as a QoL thing by the community and not whiners saying, “Oh great! Turn Turrets Into Single "Kit"

in Engineer

Posted by: Iason Evan.3806

Iason Evan.3806

I have a suggestion for turrets. Take all of them and turn them into a kit. Each turret gets a skill on your weapon bar. Once deployed you can swap to your main weapon or keep it active to take advantage of secondary functions.

Here is my idea:

Turret Kit- Skill One: Rifle Turret. Skill Two: Flame Turret. Skill Three: Net Turret. Skill 4: Rocket Turret. Skill 5: Turret Transport (this would be the new skill I will explain it later) Thumper Turret would be dropped from the rotation. If you swap to another kit or to your weapon set you lose out on secondary functionality unless you re-equip the kit. Of course the turrets would have to be re-balanced, but I will leave that to the pros at ArenaNet. The #5 skill “Turret Transport” would pack all of the turrets back up for redeployment. There would be a hard reset on skills so they couldn’t be deployed over and over without a cool down, but I think this addresses some of the issues with having to spec so hard for only a few turrets that are not very mobile for a game that moves pretty fast.

I think that this would be a boon to Engies in PvE and I think you would see a rise in the number of Engies played akin to what happened with the Ritualist in GW1 when spirits were given a much needed overhaul. Turrets were a selling point of the class and I find them to be the most lackluster option. I love using them in sPvP (that doesn’t mean I find it an effective way to play my Engie though) but in PvE, they really don’t fit the pacing of the combat and require too many of my trait points and are not mobile enough to see any use by players.

Thanks for your time.

I can understand the removal of it if they added the tower in kessex and wanted that to be the instance, but to take away the mad king’s instance and not let us in the new tower is fairly disheartening. I looked forward to that all year. It is a great instance and now it just isn’t there.

Part of this new communication thing should be to tell us when stuff like this isn’t going to be here before the update it should be in hits. If people get mad because you told us it isn’t here is totally different than being disheartened because it was simply left out.

Collaborative Development Topic- Living World

Iason Evan.3806

I am stoked we are having this discussion. I need to ask some questions first so that I am on the same page as the devs. I don’t want to give feedback that doesn’t fit with what you(the devs) have in mind as to where this whole thing is going.

1.) What are the design goals for this LW that is collaborative?

2.) Can we get 2 week updates that leave the content permanently in the world?

3.) Can we pick up the personal story where it left off at the end of Arah and make the LW stuff with where that is headed?

4.) Can we get dragon minions(smaller dragons like the bone dragons in GW1) as events in the LW events going forward?

I think it would be good on Nov. 4th to give the players an outline of what you guys have in mind so that players have an idea of what to suggest as it pertains to where you guys have this thing heading. It’s like an English teacher that gives an idea of what to write about. If certain things are off the table, then you don’t want us suggesting it in vain and wasting your and our time. Give us a sketch of where this is headed and get our suggestions on what we think should be included in that.

My suggestions are that the story needs to happen in a more concrete way. You may have given us as much content as an expansion, but the story is not as focused as what we would get in an expansion because we can’t play it when we want. It’s like telling us we can only watch an episode of a show per month or so. Once we get to the next one, it’s really easy to forget what we were doing. Also, not every update contains story that pertains to the LS. Sometimes we get holiday events or Zephyr Sanctum or SAB and that pauses what is going on and it’s tough to follow. I love the content frequency, but only if the story can be more condensed. I think that is why the stuff needs to remain permanent. That way I can play 6 months of it in a few sittings and then it all makes sense. I don’t want someone to give me a really good book and tell me I can only read 15 minutes of it a month and sometimes there will be a month I can’t read it at all. I lose interest.

I feel for the people wanting a pre-cursor so they can make their Legendary. It’s too bad it feels that the way it’s set up is more as a money/play-time sink than actually geared towards the players as a reward for a time investment well spent.

They have been talking about this pre-cursor quest/scavenger hunt/new method of acquiring for quite some time now. Also having found out a few weeks ago that it might get pushed to next year when it’s almost at the top of every player’s want list is considerably disappointing.

Hopefully this new form of “collaborative development” actually means communication flowing both ways. I have a feeling though we will be told close to the end of the year that this isn’t coming til next year when it will already be obvious just by looking at the calendar.

Back to the topics at hand though, I would love to hear what they are doing about cost of pre-cursors on the TP. They are outrageous atm and have been for a few months. Fortunately, none of them tickle my fancy, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t an issue.

John Stumme kind of addressed this stuff in the livestream today and I wholeheartedly disagree with what he said. The best content is the content designed around the interesting stuff in the game. For example, I like Scarlet but she came out of nowhere with zero context in the lore. I understand building content around new characters, but it will get to the point that people that care about lore will stop paying attention to it in this game because none of the stories ever get completed.

No one wants to read half finished books. Likewise, I don’t want to play a game where I can get invested in characters only to have the story end at the climax. You need denouement and resolution for it to be complete. I am specifically referring to Livia here.

Please don’t start stuff you aren’t going to finish. Heck, you guys started the Wizard’s Tower and never even told the tale and then moved it here to GW2 and it just sits there in a lonely corner of one of the least played maps in the game. It would be great if you guys finished the tales you started. That’s the payoff. That’s the “lore loot”. The way a lot of this stands now, it’s like you sent me on a lore quest, the quest was buggy and there is no reward in the form of an ending.

High Level FOTMs Less Rewarding Than Dungeons

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Iason Evan.3806

Iason Evan.3806

Let’s assume a couple of things:

1) High level fractals are a challenge.
2) Some people like challenges.
3) Lots of people like rewards.
4) Lots of people hate frustration.

Okay? Good.

Now, here’s how it works. High level fractals are a challenge, but they don’t give rewards enough to draw people there for rewards. The ONLY reason to play them is for the challenge, right?

IF they balance the rewards, then more people will be drawn to them. People that want the rewards, but don’t enjoy the challenge or the frustration that comes with failing. Soon, there would be a growing cry to “fix” the fractals. You’d also have more people getting frustrated with them to the point of quitting. Eventually, the growing pressure on ANet would likely result in a reduction of the challenge of high level fractals.

So, there it is. You can have challenge there, but only because the majority of players don’t want to go there due to the poor rewards. (I’m one of them, by the way. I’m just honest with myself.) It might seem unfair at a glance, but it’s not. You can play the same fractals on easier levels to get the same content, it’s personal choice to go at a higher difficulty level. Boost the rewards, and you’ll eventually lose the challenge. You can’t have both.

If you are saying the challenge is the reward then I agree. If they iron out the technical issues with some of the Fractals that have been mentioned ad nauseam by players and have not been addressed yet, then I will be beyond stoked. My hope is that with the inclusion of the upcoming new Fractals they do a QoL and bug squashing pass on the old ones. I think it’s great they are at least going to address the unnecessary length of the Dredge Fractal.

GW2 PvP/WvW...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Iason Evan.3806

Iason Evan.3806

Is a failure IMHO.

Why?

sPvP

1. Look at the Mists on all servers. What a waste of space. All different kinds of target/dodging dummies, a few NPC with Ranger pet AI intelligence to fight against. Anet you want players in the Mist. Open up player dueling and you’ll see numbers start to climb immediately.

2. One full year of only mediocre Conquest maps have pushed away Players from dire boredom with no quality reward system for all that time put into it.

3. No changes to sPvP trinkets and condition mechanics force all professions into cookie cutter AoE condition spamming builds ?.

4. The wak-a-mole Profession revamps to Nercos, Warriors, Thieves when professions like the Elementalist, Ranger and Engineer still have mechanic and bugs issues from Beta that not been fixed.

5. Trying to profit off an unfinished product (Spvp) is just bad business.

WvW

1. WvW is the only place for PvXer to PvP. PvXers enjoy fighting players on a smaller scale which doesn’t mean put an sPvP obstacle course in the middle of the borderland.

2. WvW large group fights on a competitive level only involve 4 professions: Hammer Warriors, Hammer/Condition Removing Guardians, Staff Elementalists and Staff/Plauge Necros. A mesmer or two are need for Veil but that is it. No one welcomes Rangers, Thieves, Engineers or even up-levels in competitive WvW play yet I bet up-levels of the 4 main WvW professions would be more welcome than Ranger, Thieves and Engineers.

3. We hunger for PvP not standing in towers or in front of them dancing around arrowcart fire most of the time in WvW.

4. GvG is a creature of the lack of PvP gamemodes in GW2

5. Leagues will only push players away because of the server population disparates.
GW2 is not a good PvP game and that is a major reason why players have left in legions. ANet, the problem is that your vision of this game is just bad for it. This is not the Field of Dreams where: “If you build it, they will come. This is the real world: if you build it and don’t improve it properly; people will get bored of it, than leave it. Most players once they leave a MMO they have played for a while will never come back.

My beef with GW2 is the profession development favoritism and the slow turtle speed of balance changes proves that this game is not a serious PvP game and should have never been advertised or treated as one.

So what’s the solution? I see criticism here, but no solutions. What needs to happen to fix the issues you have with the game? Can it be fixed or is it broken beyond repair?

The Wizard's Tower

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Iason Evan.3806

Iason Evan.3806

I hope with all my heart that the wizards tower will respond to this tower being built so close to them.

That is my hope. In the lore it is said the Wizard moved the tower. Hopefully he can move the tower to attack the one that is there. He has all those elementals protecting the town there on the shore. I would also love it if that is where Livia is. Who else would she be hanging out with at this point? Would make sense for two people that have unnaturally long lives to want to be around each other.

I guess my other reason is that I don’t understand why we keep getting new characters introduced when there are characters that the community cares about that have been around for years and nothing is being done with them. There is an attachment factor for people that can create excitement in others that maybe previously wouldn’t care at all. With new characters you just end up adding clutter to a mess of loose ends. I would like to see some of those loose ends get tied up before starting a new journey.

The wizards tower is actually part of the first quest ever made for GW1. so it is likely a lot older then 7 years.

The tower is and has always been a complete mystery. Personally I do hope that this mystery stays a mystery forever. Now it is exiting. using it for a dungeon/fractal/personal story/jumping puzzle/wold boss content whatever would be fun…….for 1 month…then the mystery is gone

Keep the wizards tower a mystery forever!!

Totally valid opinion. I can respect that. When I put it in perspective of how many loose ends there are from GW1 lore-wise, it leaves a sour taste in my mouth. I don’t mind having mystery, but to leave mysteries unsolved forever is one of a few things: The author not knowing what to do with it, forgetting about it, too lazy to do something with it, or saving it for later. Seeing as we are a whole other game into the franchise, and the fact that it is in the game makes me think differently. Why put it in if they are going to do nothing with it? Most everything else was destroyed in GW1 (including things and people that could actually be here still) but this one was left entirely intact.

When you have things that people get attached to in a story, those are the things you most want to tell tales of because there is a connection and immersion there. Why would anyone start making new stories that no one has a connection with and forsake the things they feel tied to? No one would do that :P

I did post this 8 months ago: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/Wizard-s-Tower-as-a-Fractal/first#post1346064

They have this amazing thing that has always piqued interest, they move it into this game(it really is one of the only immediately recognizable things from GW1 in GW2) and yet it just sits there tucked away into a corner of a map that until now was kind of neglected because it has no meta event. What actually has to transpire for that thing to get fleshed out? It’s like if they showed the Death Star in Star Wars but never talked about it. I have sufficiently given my two cents on the matter though now. It would be nice to hear something from the devs on it though. It’s been 8 years of waiting.

I seriously want to be wrong about this and I hope you all have a plan for the Wizard’s Tower and that is why you brought it over from GW1. If not, it seems a not so subtle troll move aimed at the people who really like the world lore.

So let me get this straight: You guys have a tower that you moved to Kessex that was in the original GW, has been in the lore for 8 years, and then you build a new tower in the same map instead of using the one you have?

I understand wanting to build up the content in Kessex, (no meta event etc.) but ignoring the Wizard’s Tower http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Wizard%27s_Tower over and over again is super disappointing.

I am curious as to why it keeps not seeing any use in the game. I am also curious as to why another tower is being used in Kessex after the Wizard’s Tower has never been used and has been shrouded in mystery for 8+ years. Why even bring it over from GW1?

Unless you guys and gals do a “Two Towers” reference soon and use both of them, I will be super disappointed if I don’t get to ever meet this guy: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Isgarren

Please don't make us craft ascended armor

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Iason Evan.3806

Iason Evan.3806

I am all about multiple ways to acquire. GW2 is supposed to be about us playing the way we want. Make a way for us to get it doing a few different things. I am all about being able to trade in Exotic Skins from Dungeons plus “x” number of tokens from the same dungeon as the armor we have and getting an ascended version of that via the Forge. I know some of the Dungeons have a badge or token already that costs 200 tokens to get for making some of the dungeon based exotic jewelry. let us combine that with armor pieces to make it ascended in the mystic forge.

Let us get it in Fractals. You know: The place that Ascended Armor is for since it will have the ability to take a simple infusion for AR. We can trade in 5 of the high end fractal relics for it. That’s 5 days worth of dailies.

I know you guys at ArenaNet want some of this stuff to be time gated. I don’t agree with it, because I believe it goes against the spirit of Guild Wars since it’s inception all those years ago, but it seems it’s kinda set in stone. Fine then. At least give us some notion as to whether or not this is the end all ceiling for tiers so that we aren’t on a treadmill like every other MMO under the sun. It isn’t what makes a game fun and actually detracts from the fun of alting and a million other things I could list ad nauseam.

I can accept it being in the game but give us multiple options from the get go. Don’t make it so you have to craft it. With all due respect, doing it that way is taking the easy way out and implementing it just for time gating’s sake. You guys are better than that.

What is ONE change you'd make to your class?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Ranger- Because we are not being given full control to our pets because the devs do not want to alienate or overwhelm new Rangers(per a State of the Game adress for sPvP a few months ago on Twitch), give us the option to NOT have to have pets and increase the Ranger’s damage when not bringing one.

There are many places that my pet is a liability (final fractal fight getting targeted and having no way to dodge or pick up a crystal is one quick example).

Most other classes have pets or access to them- Necro Minions, Ele’s elementals, Guard’s weapons, Warrior Banners, Engie Turrets etc. Sure, those require skills to equip, but they have the option to NOT bring them. Do the same for Rangers please, or just let us micro manage them if we want.

When the Ranger dodges, have the pet dodge. If I just want to dodge so that my pet dodges, I am still using my own energy to do so and that means I am less a dodge for myself. There are so many things that still need to be done with this class until it is where it needs to be.

At this point we just need warm bodies. Add skins to the win chests that only drop in sPvP, but can be used in PvE. There will be enough players at that point. Make the items account bound like Fractal weapons so that there are no gold bots and make the drop rate low. That will provide a lot of players for the format and some may even stick around because sPvP is awesome.
