Official Response: Drop Rate of Legendary Precursors

in Crafting

Posted by: Iason Evan.3806

Iason Evan.3806

Here is the other issue now: We have to salvage exotics to get crafting materials to make Ascended Weapons once the patch goes live today. This means that people will be less likely to throw exotics into the forge. This means there will be less pre-cursors on the BLTC. This means prices will go up.

It is my opinion that the drop rate for Pre-Cursors should go up now because of it. I really believe that ArenaNet should have waited to add the Ascended weapons to the game until they released the Legendary weapon solution as far as crafting one or a Scavenger Hunt etc.

We are moving into a brave new time gated world. Funny thing is, old games used to give us new level caps for time gated stuff. I don’t want a new level cap, but I also don’t want time gated content.

What happened to the old philosophy of giving us new content and that was the reason we played because it was fun? Now it’s just arbitrary time gates on weapons that add power creep into the game with no new content for which to play it on. It’s such an odd decision.

How exactly do they plan on adding new races?

in Living World

Posted by: Iason Evan.3806

Iason Evan.3806

Why do the new race additions have to have a personal story? Why not just put a disclaimer on the new races during character creation that says something like, “This race is suggested for those players who have already gone through a personal story line or multiple storylines. This race has no personal story line as it is intended to be played by those who have multiple characters already. You will pick a single voice of any one of the 5 existing races voices and that will be used in dungeons and cutscenes etc.”

I would rather we get to see new races than have to have a bunch of voice work added. My Tengu doesn’t have to have a unique voice. In fact, I have 7 max level characters and have yet to complete a single personal story to completion. I couldn’t stand Trahearne or the story. Playing as a new race though? I totally want that!

Time Gating Is -> NOT FUN

I play 7 different characters on a regular basis. I got lucky in Fractals with Ring drops and have all Ascended rings on all 7 characters who are all at level 80. I used my Laurels to buy them all Amulets. I have 2 characters with all Ascended jewelry. As you can tell, I play a lot. I know that we don’t technically have to have any of this stuff. I would feel better though if we knew WHAT the ceiling was. Is this the last tier of high end stuff? If there is no ceiling then this is really off putting. ArenaNet games have never been about getting the best stats. There was always a ceiling and that was what was appealing to me. It was always about spending time getting the look you wanted if you wanted to go that route but you were never time gated in a serious manner for the top statted gear. Now all of a sudden we are.
I think ArenaNet would have been better suited introducing the new weapon sets first and the new utility skills. Why keep increasing stats without adding permanent content that challenged us with those new stats in mind? It makes no sense.
I am not gonna say anything caustic or demeaning because that is just gross, but I would like to express my total and utter disappointment in the decision makers at ArenaNet for this decision. You could have at least given us new permanent content in the form of an expansion to soften the blow. Now we just have an arbitrarily implemented time gate for gear if we want BiS items with no reason for it whatsoever.
Have you guys forgotten how GW1 was? We didn’t play all of those campaigns because you offered progression. We played because they were fun. These two week updates are fun, but an arbitrary gear treadmill for no reason is less fun than a gear grind when you know at the end of it you get to do raids or whatever and I can’t stand that in games, so how do you think I feel about it when it has no purpose?
It takes 2 weeks to make 1 weapon. Remember the part where I said I play 7 characters regularly? I use multiple weapons on those characters excluding my Elementalist and Engineer that only use 1 weapon each. My warrior will take 8 weeks to gear up for ONLY her preferred weapons. I don’t know how else to put it, so I will be blunt: It’s asinine. I have dropped literally thousands of hours over 8 years playing your games and almost as much money.
If you don’t do anything regading changing the system, at least have the common decency to tell us where the ceiling is so we can plan accordingly. If there is no ceiling then I will go to a game that has one. I like playing for fun and things I like cosmetically. Put me on a multiple month treadmill for no reason and I will simply step off and walk away with a heavy heart. I don’t really know how to fully express my deep disappointment in the arbitrary time gating of these items.

Ascended Gear to Kill Builds and Alts?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Iason Evan.3806

Because it gives a sense of progression.

Funny that we never had any “sense of progression” in GW1 and quite honestly didn’t need it. There was never a stat increase and never a gear increase across 3 campaigns and 1 expansion. The allure of this series for many was that it is all about fun, and not arbitrary gear grind. Why introduce no new higher level content but higher end gear? it makes no sense whatsoever.

If I wanted a challenge I would just buy level 40 gear for my level 80 and have my guildies do the same and then go run Caudecus Manor Explorable Mode.

Minimum Time Sink To Make an Ascended Weapon?

When I was watching the livestream with Linsey yesterday it looked as if we could make the weapons in 5 days because of the laurel cost. Theoretically if you have the laurels already, it would take less time. A friend’s math showed him it would take 6 days and Dulfy has the time listed as two weeks per weapon. Does anyone or a dev preferably, have a time frame how long it will take to make one? Thanks for the responses.

Charged Quartz better not be an ingredient

in Super Adventure Box: Back to School

Iason Evan.3806

If they really want time gating without leaving people who don’t play a bunch out of it then make the ability to gather stuff for the amount of days you haven’t been on. For example, if i don’t play for 30 days because I don’t like time gating, then I should be able to collect 30 days of those materials all in the day I get back. I can then craft with those items that day as well. If I have to play consecutive days or I miss out, then I will be looking for a new game.
Side note: I think I have 2700 hours of this game played.
I am just really tired of the pattern I am seeing. If they keep going down this path, people that take a break to play other games for a year or so will come back and not be able to just jump in content with old friends. In GW1, you could leave and come back and sure, you may have to do a campaign, but that meant you were just playing the game to get to where your friends were. There wasn’t a gear hurdle in the way. The content they will make a year from now will be respectful of the best gear at the time. I don’t agree with the decision.

Will Asc. crafting be time-gated per account?

in Super Adventure Box: Back to School

Posted by: Iason Evan.3806

Iason Evan.3806

Making my full set of Celestial Armor for my Elementalist was a slog. Fortunately for me, it was the only character I wanted it on. Time gating in this game seems odd because we have no subscription fees. I used to hate time gated crafting in sub games because I felt like it was the developer’s scheme to get us paying a sub for longer. Here it just seems arbitrary and inconsistent to their core ideas about what an MMO should be: Fun.

I would even be OK with time gated crafting in this game if it wasn’t like quartz and only a one time per day per account thing. It needs to be per character, per day. 30 days per set of armor per character when you have 7 to 8 or more characters that you play regularly is quite frankly, gross for lack of a better term. I am also stretching the limits of what I am actually OK with by typing that it is OK for it to be once per character per day. There are reasons other than subs that people left grindy crafting systems like this. They are arbitrary, not very creative, not fun, and make you have to play EVERY day consecutively or you feel like you are being left behind gear wise. I know that I don’t have to have that grade of gear. That isn’t the point. The point of what I am really saying is that time gated crafting is a dev’s way of taking the easy, un-creative way out of making a system that actually makes crafting something that players who like crafting want to do. You are better than this ArenaNet. You can do better.

Just kidding. The Debbie Downers in here didn’t ruin it for me. I am gonna make BANK next week selling all the materials I hoarded for the last month. It’s gonna be great.

Are we all playing the same game? All I see in here is doom and gloom. Everyone here is aware you can craft all these new weapons right? You know, with the mats that ArenaNet has given us in ENORMOUS QUANTITIES over the last month from the Pavillion and the Zone Events? Was I the only one making money hand over fist for the last month? Was I the only one storing up TONS of T5 and T6 Mats?

For people saying they have to gamble for this stuff, that is totally false. Let others gamble and then just spend gold and buy it off the BLTC. If you do a search in the BLTC for “skin” you can see all the Sclerite, Molten, Aetherized skins on the market. Just buy them with gold. You can also buy Black Lion Keys by converting gold to gems. You don’t have to spend or gamble real world money at all. So tired of the whining that you have to spend hundreds of real dollars/quid/euros on this stuff. You don’t.

The sad thing is, you are serious.

And the serious thing is that it’s true. I look at the Gem Shop as an expensive Gold shop. Don’t play enough or mismanage your funds enough that you don’t have the gold to do that? Then you either spend gold like a drunken sailor, don’t save enough, or it’s because you work a lot of hours and have more expendable income for entertainment. At some point, you have to decide whether or not those weapons are worth what you are willing to pay, or whether or not they are worth saving your gold up for.

Complaining that they are too expensive or too much a gamble isn’t looking at it correctly. ArenaNet allows us to buy them from other players on the BLTC with in game currency. There are myriad ways to get these skins without spending a dime. It also offers a way for players who obviously have a LOT of expendable RL money that they feel they can drop to convert to gems, buy some keys, and then they convert that cash to gold selling the weapons. It’s a win for everyone.

If you lack the RL money to buy gems, do what I do: Use the gem shop as an expensive gold shop. Don’t spend RL money you don’t have.

The really hilarious plot gaffe is that the first thing Jennah or our character should have suggested doing was going and talking to The Pale Tree about who she is. That would have been a great way to figure out how to approach the situation and flesh out more of the plot about who she is. It all just seems so disjointed. I am sure we will get more info later, but for now it feels like the end of Guild Wars 1 did when EotN ended. We got an ending but it just begged for more questions and those questions never got answered. The same thing seems to be happening here. I know that I want an actual story with a concise beginning, middle, and end. Even if it isn’t a story I like, at least it will make sense and be well laid out. This is just kinda messy for now. I will reserve total judgment for when the event ends. Surprise me with story for once ArenaNet! I love the rest of the game, but the storytelling is kinda lacking in the coherent department.

Why should we waste time clicking pointless times instead of this anyway..

Because the game isn’t built around hoarding 100 or more of one item just to use them all at once.

Totally not true. Now that we get hundreds of these karma drips and drops it’s better to have a way to right click the stack and select, “Use All”. Same thing for buying Wine and myriad other things that we want in bulk. A CTRL+Right Click to open a box with a slider that lets us select up to a stack of an item with a pricing scaler would be the way to go and then to select use stack if we want to as well saves mouse clicks in game which preserves our hardware.

My guild really likes to do gates of arah event. i told all the farmers a few hours before hand that we were going to be doing it at 10PM sever time last night. i went in 20 minutes before the time as well to let them know again and the rage that ensued was terrible. Some(not all) of the commanders present instructed the zerg to stand at the gates but not to attack so that it would be harder for us to kill the boss with so many people around but those people were not attacking. When we successfully defeated the boss a lot of people cussed us out and accused us of being from a different server even after all my stops in Cursed Shore to let them know we were completing the event.

The problem isn’t the event or ArenaNet (The new Champ drops are AMAZING! Thank you ArenaNet). It’s the player base. We are the issue. The zerg needs to get hit with the nerf bat. I am tired of getting reported for doing an event as intended. We kept our mouths shut though and went on our way and had a great run with fat loots.

Since you are on Sanctum of Rall I will let you in on a little tip: had you guys just farmed the Champions at Anchorage, but let the event finish properly, we would all be able to farm those Champs for a long time to come. But you didn’t. You chose the path of farming them for about a week only and that’s it because ArenaNet is going to come in and fix the issue come Monday or Tuesday like they did with the Champion Giant at the start of the Gates of Arah pre-event. So instead of us getting to farm those champions from now until forever, we get to farm them for a week and now that thing will be rendered useless for all time because you guys couldn’t see past your next loot drop. Jealous of EG? Nope. Just ticked you guys didn’t have more foresight and chose the quick hit. Thanks a ton though for calling your server and guild out so that everyone will know who is responsible for yet another nerf soon.

So much of the game is aimed toward letting everyone do everything and for those of us that have maxed out and fully geared 7-8 or more characters we really like it when stuff is made for us to play. The game is fast closing on a year old and maybe you should focus on just getting at least one character to max level and fully geared so that you can enjoy the content too when it happens. Making everything for everyone all the time actually leaves people who have done it all and want a challenge from this game from time to time without an option.

Manifesto Clarification

After playing ToR and the Imperial Agent class in particular(with how brilliant the story telling was in it) it was really jarring to play GW2’s personal story content. It’s just not the same caliber by a long shot and I am being diplomatic here. All that said, ToR’s game play in the open world doesn’t hold a candle to what ArenaNet has created. I take being able to play with my ENTIRE guild at the same time for granted now because of GW2. That fact alone would make this game worthwhile for me to play and there are just so many other wonderful things about the game that I love. The personal story though is a bummer.

I think ArenaNet’s writers do comedy very well. I don’t think they do drama very well as it pertains to dialog in the personal story. It all melts into melodrama. So you know what I decided? I am not playing any personal story stuff. SInce I made that decision it made the game thoroughly enjoyable for me. There are parts of every game that just aren’t for everyone. The trick is if you can find a bunch of things you like and then just stick to those. ArenaNet should take stock and see what is lacking and adjust to either make those parts better or if they should drop that thing completely. I am loving the two week updates and the pavillion has been a complete bast for my guild we get upwards of 20 of us at a time jsut running around killing stuff, getting fat lewtz and chillin in Ts. No other MMO really allows us to do that. ArenaNet does and all without a sub. It’s brilliant!

I understand not liking one aspect but you are trying to reduce that one thing you don’t like down into the whole game being representative of that one thing and that is simply not the case.

The Account Currency Wallet is permanent.

Every update is going to have temporary content. Every update is going to have permanent content. The temporary content keeps the game fresh. The permanent content improves quality of life and gives us new armor and weapon skins and more options to our game play.

The new Champion content is going to see a LOT of use by players. There are really interesting Champion fights out there that no one really does because people just want loot chests. this update is fixing that permanently.

Again, the issue is none of that is permanent playable content. Everything you listed is quality of life updates, which while very important, do not add directly to new things to play permanently in the game.

Looks like people dont get what i mean. I don’t mean permanent changes. i know the dungeon changes and champion changes are permanent. But so what? Im talking NEW PLAYABLE CONTENT not changes

Im with you. Playable content is not the same as QOL updates.

I get you. You want the content focus to be all permanent content. They are doing that in the future which Colin has stated repeatedly. They are also trying out this two weeks thing. I personally love it because it keeps the content fresh. I play a lot so getting an expansion every year is not as fun for me as what they are doing with these two week updates. I also enjoy being able to do the meta events with all my guildies as opposed to other MMOs that make me play with a party only. There are other games out there that do the expansion content and then menial stuff throughout the year. Let’s be patient with ArenaNet and see where they take this 2 week update thing over the course of say, a year. There really isn’t any precedent for it and they are learning on the fly as they go.

The other part of me is tiring of all the incessant whining on the forums. No one has said, “Thanks ArenaNet for giving us the new skins off of enemies and not through the BLTC.”

At some point if people don’t agree with the core concept of where they are heading with game design, there are other options out there. I for one am excited for where all of this is going and ArenaNet to me is treating it’s customers great.

So... everything in this patch is temporary

The new Champ loot including the new weapon skins and material bag drops are permanent. Oh and those skins: They drop off champs, not in the gem store.

The new sPvP solo queue is permanent.

You guys should check it out before you jump to too many conclusions.

To the OP: There are a lot of players that like dailies. The beauty of them is that if you don’t want to do them you dont have to. Removing them wholesale from the game removes them from those of us that like them. Options are a good thing. Don’t remove options.

Queen's Jubilee patch preview

Here is an excerpt from Massively’s piece on the event for all the people that just say GW2 is a gear grind or caters to casuals:

“If the fights themselves aren’t challenging enough, you can choose to add a gambit for the cost of 1 ticket apiece. The gambits are handicaps, and will apply debuffs such as burning or inability to dodge for the duration of the fight. You’ll be rewarded more richly for taking more risks. Defeating the final tier boss, Liadri the Concealing Dark, with every gambit active will earn you a miniature version of her; we were told that out of all of the alpha testers, only 5 had managed to earn the mini. Running around with a little Liadri will be a prestigious way to show off your skill as a superior soloist.

Because the achievements for Queen’s Gauntlet are meant to be optional due to the nature of the activity, they have their own category in the achievement UI and are not necessary for completion of the Queen’s Jubilee meta achievement."

Dailies - the bane of modern games

In GW2 you get rewarded for playing how you want though. Most games have a specific set of quests you have to repeat ad-nauseum. In this game, I just play how I always play and I finish the daily. Also, you can PvP for your laurels. Or you can WvW. I honestly don’t see the issue here.

From reading all of this, I see some great points. Most of the points I see though are things that lead me to believe that some of the people making them shouldn’t really be playing GW2 because it probably isn’t their cup of tea. At some point, you just have to cut your losses and find something else to play that suits you more.

It’s like when we get into a relationship with someone. We can either like them for who they are or try to change them into what we think they should be, or what we want them to be. There are some people here trying to make GW2 into what they want it to be and it’s not just superfluous changes. They want changes to the core game and vision. I just don’t think that works. There are people that like to play a social style game that gives them things that make them feel rewarded. It seems that isn’t enough for some here. You may need something more complex. I kinda feel like there are some people here that want this game to be some really complex game. Some others just want it to be above average and others want it to just be a gear treadmill.

Whenever I want to play something hard I go play Street Fighter 4 online and remind myself that GW2 is probably more my speed. This game is for the masses. It isn’t niche. it isn’t a complex puzzle with a need for spreadsheets and calculators. It’s a place to be silly and social and occasionally it offers up a challenge in a high level fractal or dungeon boss fight. This isn’t EvE. This isn’t Zelda. This isn’t StarCraft 2.

It’s Guild Wars 2 and it’s pretty stinkin’ awesome.

It still adds up over the course of the game’s life. I have one on my Guardian and will still use it after the update. You have to have the foresight to know when something can easily be changed when you make a decision to purchase something.

Very concerned about champion loot

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Iason Evan.3806

I’m going to preface this by saying I love this game, I play almost every day and I have thoroughly enjoyed the living story, new content and I’m very much looking forward to this patch as well.

With that said, has this champion thing been thought out well? Before I start making assumptions, could we get some more clarification on this? Most champions are ridiculously easy to kill and it’s really starting to get easy to get anything in this game at that point. I’d like some challenge, not turning this game into that “other MMO” where everything is handed to you on a silver platter.

I’d enjoy hearing some more details about this.

I believe (this is just speculation) that with the implementation of us being able to do a long trek toward getting our pre-cursors, more people will be going for Legendaries. That means that there has to be a way to get more T6 mats into the game. Putting them on Champs is a great way to do it in my opinion. Otherwise, everyone will be hoarding mats and the prices will skyrocket. That’s just my opinion, but it would seem that this would be a rational explanation as to why they would implement this.

About legendaries..

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

In my opinion, their looks don’t justify the headache of obtaining them. Not saying they look bad, just that the looks and effort to get them are wildly disproportionate.

Well said. It’s all taste vs. effort in the end. I play a Ranger main and I don’t like either of the bows. It’s too bad there isn’t a masculine bow. Fortunately for all of us, ArenaNet have released TONS of weapon skins, most of which I adore. We have choices and in the end, it’s much cheaper for me to get a weapon I feel I must have because I am not a fan of the Legendaries that are out now. Maybe that will change, but it’s not hampering my love of this game one iota if I never find a Legendary I like.

Just like an expensive car, you don’t have to get it IF you can afford a cheaper car. If you do go for the expensive car, be prepared to pay the price for it.

Honestly, why do ppl feel the need to complain about skins being expensive when you can simply just don’t bother getting it.

and.. Honestly, why do people feel the need to judge others for providing feedback?

For the last 3 posts, I agree with what you are saying, that there is more than meets the eye. Like you can get the skin through other means, that you get other things in the BLC and that you can always choose to not buy it. That said, it is also fair enough that someone provides feedback that they are unhappy with the current system.

Therefore, the point isn’t ‘moot’ and the comparison to another game is relevant.

It would be fine if the feedback provided were of all sides to the argument. The argument the OP is making is invalid because you can get the items with in game currency. They are trying to make it sound as if there is only 1 way to get the weapons and that simply isn’t the case.

500 AP for GW1 Hall of Monuments Intended?

And try getting 50 points – I can guarantee you that it’s almost like making a legendary if not harder.

And a legendary is worth 5 points, getting 5 legendaries is 25 points, against 500 for HoM…

The Legendary itself is the reward. Anyone just going for achievement points would not put that amount of time in for the points as they could take the money they would make off of the materials needed for the legendary and buy tons of other things to give them more achievement points.

Item Rarity Suggestion

in Suggestions

Iason Evan.3806

It is said that the ticket scraps for the black lion chests are common. I opened quite a few chests and only got two. The font color is blue, which is supposedly telling me that yes, in fact, they are common. The drop rate is not common though.

Conversely, the voting tickets are of rare quality. I know this by the color of their font which is gold and stands for rare. I have gotten tons of them. Does the color actually mean nothing?

I would suggest having the color of your drops match the actual drop rate. It is misleading to users otherwise. I know for a FACT that the voting scraps drop more than gold weapons or armor that supposedly share the same rarity as I have gotten the scraps on a 25:1 scale vs. gold armor/weapon drops since the patch went live on Tuesday. They aren’t the same rarity. I also know for a FACT that the blue common ticket scraps that drop in the Black Lion chests do not drop at a common rate. Please fix this so that the drop rate matches what you are telling us visually with the font color. It’s very misleading. Thank you.

Or you could buy them on the BL Market for 40-60 gold each outright. I really have zero clue what the problem is here. I would understand the OP’s argument IF the only way to get them was off the gem shop and we didn’t have the ability to purchase them with in game currency. We can though, so the OP’s point is moot.
