Are you sure you didn’t “deposit all” before pressing send? You can attach the items, but if they are moved before you ship them off, the mail will go out without the items.

My recommendation: slow it down by taking screenshots:

  • Account A: start the mail (with addressee) & add the items.
  • Account A still: open material storage & take screen, showing mail + inventory + amount in storage for at least one item
  • Account A: one last screen of material storage + inventory
  • Account B: take screen of mail

Then one of two things will happen:

  • You can replicate the bug and now you have screenshots to show what’s going on — start a support ticket and add the screens to your report.
  • You won’t be able to replicate it (and with luck, you’ll figure out on your own what was going on).

Good luck & please keep us posted with what you discover.

Transcendent Gear

People have proposed this before, referring to it as “invisible legendary armor” — works the same as “legendary,” without the skin/effects.

As of the most recent quotes from ANet (after the last developer “ask me anything” when L-Armor was released), they said that they aren’t planning to change the acquisition method for L-Armor nor do they have plans to release another set. While they didn’t mention the “no skin” option specifically, the implication was clear that it’s not something being worked on anytime soon.

So I’d prepare for the possibility that once every two years or so, we’ll feel a strong disturbance in the meta, enough to be interested in setting up some new gear (or new characters to run new gear). I’m okay with that — doesn’t seem like a burden to me.

If you aren’t doing raid content, then I don’t understand why you aren’t able to run any build you like, including what you refer to as “cookie cutter”. Although you cannot swap exotics, you can maintain multiple sets, which is what many people do.

I have nothing against a profession change option from the gem shop. All the same, it doesn’t seem that we “need” it, especially not if we have more than 20 characters — we can already accomplish the same goals. Seems to me that there are far, far too many other things that folks want for which there aren’t already alternatives.

Well done on your adventure. Sounds as if you had a lot of fun.

There are posts about this every so often (here, on Reddit, etc.), including this one from a week ago or that one from late last year

Sometimes people refer to what you did as “living off the land” or “lost & found”. Some add to the challenge by re-rolling if they die (“iron man” or “ironman” challenge, after the ironman triathalon).

There’s also the Pacifist challenge (reach L80 without killing a single for or letting your friends kill on your behalf).

I issue my own challenge to friend as part of their Wintersday gift (in the spirit of the holiday, you win the reward whether you succeed, fail, or don’t start it):

  • Roll a new character of any prof.
  • Use a transformation potion (that allows jumping), e.g. to a Princess Doll
  • Use a Twisted Watchwork Portal Device
  • Make your way to Lion’s Arch, without using a waypoint (or any sort of player portal)

Difficulty Level of raids

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Illconceived Was Na.9781

Illconceived Was Na.9781

this isnt a discussion about loot. It is a discussion about accessibility.

It’s more nuanced than that. It’s a discussion about whether any game should include challenging content designed for only a fraction of players and especially whether this game should do so.

Separately, some people (not necessarily the same ones) are completionists. Just as some people want ALL the minis, some want to experience ALL the lore.

And separately from that, some people (again, not necessarily the same ones) feel that something as tremendous as Legendary Armor shouldn’t be gated to exclusive content. It might be (the argument goes) okay to gate skins (which happens with fractals, pvp, wvw, dungeons,…), but don’t gate this special reward.

And sure, some people just want more rewards without doing more work — we see that when farms are nerfed or even modestly altered. That doesn’t invalidate the other concerns that other people have.

I was very against the idea of raids — I thought exclusive content would be bad for the community. I think it’s turned out that it’s been good for the game — it’s attracted new people, given veterans a reason to work on their own skills as players, & shown ANet how a small team can be incredibly effective & efficient (especially if it’s aiming for doing one thing right, rather than lots of things half-baked).

If it had been up to me, I wouldn’t have made L-Armor exclusive nor put so much lore into raids without giving people other ways to experience it.

However, given that they’ve made those choices, I don’t think it’s worthwhile for ANet to spend additional resources changing the content|rewards we already have. I also hope they consider player feelings about lore & rewards going forward, but I very much hope that they don’t change raids to appeal to everyone — raids are successful because they have a specific focus.

Wyverns are antisocial

Illconceived Was Na.9781

It doesn’t matter to me if the event succeeds or not or if anyone understands the mechanics, my point is just that seeing other players there dramatically increases the length of time it takes to kill the bosses.

Solo = cakewalk
Zerg = I’m probably leaving

That’s your choice. As long as you realize your choice is based on a false assumption — more people does not mean it takes longer; it depends on the people. You’re not willing to spend time to help increase the number of folks who understand how to speed it up and that’s fine; it’s not your job to educate other players.

However, please don’t make that choice for others.

John Smith: “you should kill monsters, because killing monsters is awesome.”

Wyverns are antisocial

in Living World

Posted by: Illconceived Was Na.9781

Illconceived Was Na.9781

If so, have never seen the event fail.

It fails all the time, but even if it succeeds it take the zerg the entire time length to take it down when you can take it down by yourself or with a couple others really quickly. It’s just a giant waste of time if lots of people show up.

Both statements aren’t entirely accurate.

  • It does fail with a small group and often does.
  • It does fail with a large group or take nearly the entire time period.

Regardless of group size, breaking the defiance bar — even just once — just about guarantees success. Defiance, like health, scales up with group size. And, with more people, there are two reasons it becomes more difficult: (1) health & defiance only rescale if someone leaves (not when someone dies) and more people means more folks who expect a rez (or wait a little longer to get one). (2) it takes more people to break the bar and there aren’t yet that many people who know to hold on to their hard-control skills and also time them so that they trigger before the wyvern pushes the shock wave.

The content hasn’t been out that long. There are still plenty of folks new to Draconis Mons and the fight. Many of the more experienced players have moved on — they finished their backpack and don’t need the fights anymore.

Consequently, it’s not surprising that the events sometimes fail and that adding more people makes it harder — that’s not necessarily because it scales too high; it’s largely that more people means that more people don’t know what to do.

So if you are there and want the event to succeed, start letting people know when the event is about to start (7 infestations followed by 4 burrows followed by two lieutenants). Ask people to bring hard CC and mention a few skills by name, especially things like ice bow, jade winds, head butt, moa, gale, … Remind people that the first opportunity comes at 75% health and that succeeding at even just that one speeds the fight up.

In other words, this is no different from any other meta event: its success|failure depends on the random participants to know what to do. Don’t assume everyone understands — help ensure that as many learn what to do as possible.

Probably the easiest way to implement this would be to offer a BL Agent Token for X gems. You could bring the token to one of the many BL agents in Tyria, along with an existing tool; they would exchange it for any of the tools in the gem shop.

I doubt that ANet will implement it though, since the current system works for them.

And frankly, I’d prefer to wait two years for them to change the system to something closer to what the OP wants:

  • separate skins/‘effect’ from ‘function’
  • separate bonus drops (or remove them from the game)
  • make the effects/skins part of the wardrobe (along with auras)

So we’d equip and everlasting tool and choose a skin from the wardrobe. I’m willing to wait.

I’m not sure how this puts an end to “farming” — it just changes “find these sorts of nodes, press ‘f’” to “find these sorts of foes, press ‘1’”.

Grinding in this game is largely only important for shinies & achievements — it’s possible to play the game without overtly focusing on acquiring particular items. It’s not perfect in this game (far from it), but I feel very little pressure to do the same things over & over again. (Well, aside from the pressure I put on myself to finish somehting.)

How to get "Beasts Slain Quick"

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Illconceived Was Na.9781

Illconceived Was Na.9781

Braham & the NPCs, working alone (with you hiding in a corner) can finish off (nearly all) the ‘adds’ in 5-6 minutes, so you could trigger the fight, run back to the corridor, and watch for 1-2 minutes to see if they can whittle things down for you a bit. It’s RNG, so you’d have to restart (using the mote) a few times to get a “good roll”.

Even if you get a bad roll, you can practice the techniques you need to be quick: tag a couple of the servants, then maneuver around an obstacle so they chase you and ball up. That way, the beast hits a bunch of them at once.

Controlling aggro is a really good skill to learn for a lot of the game’s content.

It helps to bring a durable, heavy-hitting toon, so something like a trap guardian or condi+trap ranger work well. Rev isn’t too shabby either.

If you’re using LFG, I’d recommend that you put up the advert and advertise in /map and wait. At this point, there are going to be plenty of folks in the same boat as you, but… it’s unlikely that everyone is actively pursuing the achievement at the same time. Be patient.

yea, I can see the point, but there’s doing a little, and there’s doing “nothing”.
I mean.. when they stand there with their weapons drawn and do attacks like.. 1% of what I do, then they won’t do anything really, but at least visually it looks like they’re involved.
But right now, they stand there with their weapons sheathed. Meaning that whhen I look at them, I don’t think of them as weak, I think of them as indifferent, and that’s something else entirely.

What would you think if you watched a game of soccer and your team had like 5 players that were standing still in their spot. Not turning around, not taking a single step, just standing there. I mean if they at leats ran after the ball, they don’t even need to hit it, but just run

Except this isn’t a soccer team. It’s an MMO instance designed for up to five players and you (or I) sometimes choose to go it alone. The NPCs are there for lore, not to play the game for us. I’d like to see them rez us from dead (rather than ‘restart from checkpoint’) and I’d love to see a mechanic like Arkk’s from Nightmare Fractal (“Quickly, retreat inside my shielding!”).

But for now, it seems ‘fair’ that they do too little rather than too much for the sake of gameplay.

I wouldn’t mind if they did more. All the same, I think it’s fine — and perhaps even better — that they do little.

Further, defiance breaking is especially challenging, since the window for CC is so short and there’s often little room to maneuver.

However, after killing one or the other nearly every day since DM opened, my impression is that people are getting better. The biggest difference is always whether defiance is broken at least once — if it is, it has always succeeded (when I’ve been present). Just last night, there was a big group (30+ at any given time), including several dead (contributing to the upscaling) and we broke the bar once.

The second boss had fewer people and did not succeed; it wasn’t even getting close until people from #1 joined.

One of the developers commented on this a while ago. Originally, NPCs would do a lot of heavy lifting in group fights, which presented two issued: people didn’t feel as engaged in the story and some took advantage and let the NPCs do most of the work.

So they changed the AI so that the NPCs don’t get involved as often or for as long or as intensely.

One thing I find that they are good for is absorbing damage — you kite the foes to be on the opposite side of allies and they’ll block projectiles and sometimes absorb damage.

There’s no perfect balance between the NPCs doing nothing and them doing everything. Whatever choice the developers make will be the wrong one for some players.

Moral problems with raiders

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Illconceived Was Na.9781

Illconceived Was Na.9781

The OP has described three problems, neither of them related to morality or lying.
(1) People overestimate their own abilities — that’s not “lying,” that’s an example of the Dunning-Kruger Effect, i.e. people who aren’t skilled at something don’t have the skills to recognize they lack the skill.

(2) People have trouble realizing that communication can make a huge difference, especially in PUGs. The OP seems clear on this, since they listed things that they don’t want in their own group (being mute, ignoring VoIP requirements, fail to discuss things).

(3) People have trouble communicating. The OP also seems clear on this, since they attempted to discuss the issue with the commander and the commander tried to offer their views. Clearly, the two disagreed. (I leave it as an exercise for the reader who, if either, were likely ‘correct’ about the reason their raid failed.)

Just as clearly, the two were unable to figure out how to get past that disagreement. When in doubt, the commander is always “right” — not because they know better or they have the facts on their side — solely because they are leading. A good commander will listen to other points of view, but at the end (and beginning and middle) of the raid, there can only be one leader.

tl;dr there were social, cognitive, and communication issues; there wasn’t any sort of moral issue and there wasn’t any “lying”.

Playing what is fun vs what is good

Necromancers are suitable for all end game content. I’m not sure why people keep confusing “optimal” for “the only option.” There are going to be PUGs that only want to run the recommended builds on qtfy.eu; don’t join them. Look for (or better yet: start your own) groups that use different group compositions.

Raids are mostly a matter of managing the mechanics; optimal teams can avoid “almost succeeded”, but they cannot turn a wipe into a success. And T4 fractals can be done with any group of 5, with the exception of Nightmare Challenge Mode.

There’s nothing to address — learn the mechanics, learn the synergies with the people with whom you play; that’s all that’s needed.

On the whole, I don’t think fractals are difficult. Finding a group that understands the mechanics and/or understands their professions and/or can work with a team… that can be difficult.

I have a guild group that runs T4 a few times each week and we have a lot of fun. The only requirement is that you have AR150 and ping your snacks.

If you’re having trouble, [KING] has some excellent videos explaining the mechanics. You might also find it easier to learn the basics in Tier 1 and then move to T4 (if you have enough AR and don’t join an “experienced only” group), then return to T2-3 for achievements later.

It depends more on you & your spouse, Tanner. The best players in the game can duo just about anything; many of us still struggle with a team of 4-5 for certain types of things.

The only way to tell is give it a shot. If you have to, look for videos of people duoing or soloing and/or ask for specific help here. The walkthroughs on the wiki and other sites are also good places to start.

I’d recommend trying AC, SE, and/or CM. If you have trouble with the first you choose, swap to the next and see if it’s better for you. Success at duoing is a combination of understanding your prof, your partner’s prof, the synergies between them, and, of course, the mechanics of the encounters. You’ll get better with practice.

I’m sitting on 20 or so 80’s and well given certain balance changes would like to change up my toons a bit.

With ~20 level 80s, you can change up your toons already. Assuming an even division, you have room for two builds per prof, so you can easily go with condi+power or DPS+support.

If I had the option to profession change then I could take the same medium gear and use it to a better fit, how would a ranger perform in full commander gear with 100% boon duration, not sure but my engineer isn’t putting it to good use.

Are you saying you don’t have any rangers?
Or are you saying that you’d like to be able to re-use your soulbound exotics on… well, what amounts to another toon?

since their viability in the builds I enjoyed playing is shot to @#$%.

You didn’t mention how. While it’s true that there have been various balance patches, very few changes have shot build viability to heck. Pretty much any stat set|build can be used in this game for open world. It’s mostly a question of patience sometimes.

How often are you actively looking?

I like changing around on toons and playing different styles,

Sure, as do many people. Nothing wrong with that.

but there is a bitter hatred of cookie cutter builds I have

What is a “cookie cutter build”? I’m not familiar with the term.
And if you hate it, why not swap to something you like? Most of the game is quite forgiving about build choice, as long as you’re willing to be patient.

and for some of the classes I play they are doomed to be played once in a great while.

You’ll have to explain why that is.

I mean, there are a couple of profs that I just never have been able to enjoy — that’s why I have alts, so I can swap to ones I like more.

tl;dr
I’m unsure how it is you have 20 toons and can’t find a way to enjoy playing some of them with builds you’ve chosen. (I’m even less clear how this has anything to do with HoT, especially DS.)

The idea of AFK/botting runs counter to what I think playing a game is about, but I don’t really see how it negatively affects how I enjoy the game.

The only thing I can think of is that they might skew the economy. Is that why others are so bothered about it?

It also runs counter to ANet’s rules, which is why they suspend accounts engaged in AFK farming or botting.

The issue here seems to be two fold:

  • Some people think ANet should be even stricter about where to draw the line — ANet is okay if people aren’t putting their full attention into the game; some folks think that should be prohibited, the same as farming AFK.
  • Some people (not necessarily the same ones) think that more people are botting or AFK farming than ANet does.

First: congratulations! That’s awesome luck.

https://www.reddit.com/r/gw2exchange is a place a lot of players go to trade, when the TP isn’t ideal. For example, someone wants to trade their legendary for a permanent contract. The subreddit has been around long enough that there are a couple of trusted middlemen available. And, relevant to your case, 2-3 people who regularly buy (and less often, sell) chak egg sacs.

Of course, it’s not approved by ANet and if anything goes wrong, you’re limited to reporting the other person and have no chance to get your item or money back. Still, plenty of people have used it to successfully trade

If all you want to do is find a way to pay for the listing fee, there’s possibly some things you could sell without resorting to grinding the gold. There’s also a good chance that you know someone (or someones) who could front you enough coin to make the sale via the TP and you’ll be able to pay them back right away.

I still will never get the we want a “story mode” crowd when there’s literally hours of footage on youtube for them to consume about the very loose existence of lore in the raids.

Pretty sure those people really just want the rewards but use a mode as justification for their desire not to do it the current way.

I’m sure there are people who want the rewards without going through all the hoops. Even so, there are plenty of people who just want to experience every single line of dialogue, read every journal scrap, examine every interactable — that’s not something they can get from the videos.

I don’t dismiss the concerns outright just because I disagree about what ANet should do about it. (I don’t think it’s a good use of ANet’s resources to retrofit existing wings. I do hope they think twice about making the lore more accessible in Wing 5 and beyond.)

I saw GS4 auto attack reapers…

but what baffles me most is that most of them seem to cast certain spells or attacks when a mob is close… Must be 3rd party software (aka botting), right?

Or they are playing the game while also watching a movie, which is ok.

“Playing” the game, more like. Necros afk in Bitterfrost and engis afk in Lake Doric… gw2 is turning into the afk farm fest that is BDO. I hope Anet does something about it; many players farming like this actually go idle… I’ve hung around some spots, tried to interact with those players and only a few ever respond…

I wouldn’t respond to someone asking me if I was afk either — if you think there’s an issue, report them and let ANet deal with it. I don’t understand why you have a problem if people are watching a movie while farming? Farming is an inherently dull activity and some people like to spice it up a bit.

Besides that, how is GW2 in any way similar to what goes on in BDO? BDO has a feature that enables people to fish or ‘craft’ with the game running as a background task; ANet’s rules specifically prohibit intentionally leaving your toon idle.

You might want to reconsider whether a game should be balanced by comparing the optimum damage benchmarks.

You might also consider whether the support triad you mention (druid, chrono, warrior) would be meaningful different after a major rebalance — people will always find the best way to achieve quicker kills and that will almost always involve oversimplifying the complexities of the game to achieve something that can be explained and executed by lots of people.

The fact is that there are already all sorts of ways to master each encounter; we just tend to gravitate towards a few because humans like things simple.

So no, the OP doesn’t speak for everyone and, without evidence, I don’t buy the claim that the OP even speaks for the majority of players, when they say that people prefer GW1 over GW2, except for the updates.

That is not what the OP said.

They said that many would pick GW1 over GW2 if it was still receiving new content and was updated in many aspects of the engine as well (hence their use of the term “ancient” and my further elaborating on that).

Yes, I isolated a part of the answer that the OP used and another poster used as part of their core argument.

No, you didn’t, as my response went way beyond what you claim was the “core argument”.

It’s not possible to claim that we know what people would play if GW1 had a different graphics engine and receiving content updates. If we’re going to imagine a GW1 that is that much altered, then let’s compare it to a GW2 that is also that much altered, otherwise we can imagine how many would play GW2 if it was more like WoW.

People like GW1 for various reasons, some of it a nostalgia of what they remember. A lot more people have played GW2 than those who have played GW1 and they, too, have various reasons for playing GW2. It’s not possible to say who would play what if things were different, so let’s not try to base an entire discussion around something completely theoretical and unproven.

I agree with Ardid and Healix: the game is more interesting & fun for me because the developers use the defiance bar creatively.

It’s true there’s no good tutorial so it’s hardly surprising that some (such as Sarpan) have only recently begun to understand it. All the same, there are all sorts of mobs that use defiance simplistically, so there’s still plenty of opportunity to get in some good experience dealing with it.

Or you can just spend enough coin to cover 150 ar on jewelery and back item having it instantly on all your characters.
I got enough boxes and then some to deck out 1 light 1 medium and 1 heavy set, so can anyone who start to work on fractals mate.

Using just trinkets, there are a maximum of 10 infusion slots (6 from rings, 2 from accessories, and 2 from the backpack). To reach AR 150 would require 10x AR+15 infusions. Those are currently worth between 370 and 550 gold, so call it 450g average. Net cost of using trinkets, around 4500 gold.

Compare that to the cost of using even just 16 AR+9 slots: 110-120 gold.

The cost of adding six pieces of ascended armor runs from ~60 to 100g, depending on weight & piece, so let’s call it 80g/piece or 540g per set.

Not counting trinket costs, it costs about 650g to go from no AR to AR150 via traditional crafting.

In other words, you can gear up 7 different characters with ascended gear suitable for fractals for the same costs it takes to set up universal trinkets (which, alas, wouldn’t have universal stats that work for all builds).

tl;dr it’s unrealistic to expect that most people can get AR150 from trinkets alone. And those who could probably won’t, because they have other uses for their gold besides fractal gear.

An Idea for Toughness

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Illconceived Was Na.9781

Illconceived Was Na.9781

The reason for this, I think, is that GW2 prioritizes active mechanics over passive mechanics, which is great, but that means it won’t ever prioritize toughness.

And why is that a bad thing? People choose extra toughness now for a variety of reasons:

  • Some bosses aggro on the character with highest toughness, allow the team to control the boss’ movement and attacks, at least, to a great extent.
  • High-toughness builds are extremely useful for a variety of game modes to allow support-heavy builds to focus on support, rather than worrying about maintaining health.
  • There are all sorts of high-toughness WvW builds
  • Toughness is also very useful for people learning certain builds, as it gives them more wiggle room to learn their rotation during combat — mistakes are punished less harshly than running full glass.

In short, there are already reasons that people take toughness.

auto deposit all materials

Illconceived Was Na.9781

Auto-deposit would be convenient, but bad for the game.

Spirit shards are automatically deposited into inventory after dropping from mobs and as a result, barely anyone realizes that they drop at all..

And yet they still drop? And you still get them. Not sure how that’s bad.

Again, it’s bad because people don’t realize they get them. As a result, people feel that spirit shards are harder to obtain than they actually are and people feel that they aren’t receiving certain sorts of rewards.

Ultimately, that’s bad for the game, even though it’s obviously very convenient for stuff to automatically deposit to material storage and/or the wallet.

A similar thing happens now with auto-looting. With auto-looting, there are situations (notably: Silverwastes meta) where the rewards automatically end up in inventory (not even storage) during a cutscene and there have many forum posts with people convinced they got nothing. There are other examples within the game, as well as in other games.

In other words, it turns out that if loot drops in the forest and it doesn’t require the player’s attention, then (for a lot of people), it didn’t drop at all.

It’s working for me.

There are a couple of things you can try:

  • Deposit everything back to storage & retry.
  • Use a different mystic forge node, e.g. go to wvw or (if you have it) one of the gem shop exclusive areas.
  • Repair the .DAT file. Instructions on the wiki

Or you can create a support ticket and work with ANet to troubleshoot why you are seeing something different.

Difficulty Level of raids

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Illconceived Was Na.9781

I think you underestimate your guild mates here. Pretty much any player can handle raids, if they are willing to spend the time required to learn the encounters. It’s a steep entry, I agree. But it’s not an impenetrable barrier. I’d argue it was pretty much the same with dungeons, albeit on a (slightly) different scale.

I think you underestimate the difficulty of raids, even compared to how dungeons were to many people at launch. I think you also overestimate that patience of many people and the lack of interest many have to study and practice to play a game.

I could teach people to survive and contribute to dungeons, because the mechanics there are sufficiently forgiving of mistakes, both big and small. But even T4 fractals require many (and perhaps, most) people to step up their game an order of magnitude or more, even with a lot of help.

It’s not that raid mechanics are fundamentally impenetrable, it’s the combination of mechanics and timing and punishment-for-small-errors. Some people won’t want to make the investment in time to learn, some people don’t have the time, and some people need so much time that it simply stops being fun for them to even consider it.

I’m sure there’s a sizeable fraction of non-raiders who could raid, if they put their mind to it, without that much trouble. I don’t think that’s the majority of non-raiders though.

This is one of many situations (in life or gaming) in which those who are really good at something have trouble understanding why everyone can’t be at least pretty good at it.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with the difficult of raids and I don’t think raids need a story mode. At the same time, I also think that raids aren’t accessible for everyone and that therefore, ANet might want to think twice about how much “interesting lore” they include in future raids.

I use the gobbler exclusively for WvW to get the XP-boost for the reward track. I just add a buff whenever idle for a few seconds, which turns out to be plenty often to maintain the buff.

It’s a lot less convenient to use than when I bought it — back then, it was easy to spam buffs until you got bored and it seems ANet wants to limit the amount of nearly-free buffs we can get.

While many of the responses have valid points of criticizing the OP, I have to agree that the OP was right on spot when they wrote:

the reason people play gw2 instead of 1 is because gw1 is ancient and is not getting updates

Obviously there are people who prefer to play GW1 even now. There are definitely people who would spend more time in GW1 than GW2. But it’s a bold claim to state that’s the only reason people play GW2 — I don’t see any evidence of that in the least.

I suppose it also depends what you mean by “ancient and not getting updates” and what you mean by “play.” If GW1 got the half-dozen devs they’d need to finish the GW Beyond storyline (parallel story to The War in Kryta and The Winds of Change), I’d play it, and never go back. I’m curious about the story and where it might have gone, but… that’s about it.

But… I still wouldn’t go back to GW1 if all that changed is the graphics. It’s a coop game and I prefer the massively-online aspects of GW2. The combat system is (for me) horribly dated in concept, so that would have to change. Movement would have to be 3D, not 2D, and they’d have to let us move while using skills (other than shouts).

In short, if I preferred the sort of game that is GW1, I’d still be playing it, updates or not. I far prefer GW2.

So no, the OP doesn’t speak for everyone and, without evidence, I don’t buy the claim that the OP even speaks for the majority of players, when they say that people prefer GW1 over GW2, except for the updates.

The only exotic breathers are the rime-rimmed mariner’s (only from wintersday). The only rares are the Benthic, from Tequatl fights.
