I loot them every so often for sure, though not as frequently as I get shards. That said, just demote the shards into globs via the recipe here.
It’s less gold to buy globs directly (unless you’re horribly short on relics)
- Demotion cost: 1 shard + 1 master sal kit + 1 mystic coin + 1 crystalline dust = 135 silver worth of mats.
- Vendor Cost (INFUZ): 96 silver + 100 (ordinary) fractal relics

The only things I don’t like about the current system is that falling damage reduction takes up a slot and some traits are OP’d (some underpowered). Other than that, I think it works well:
- It forces us to make important choices about the sort of build we want.
- It’s gives us some interesting alternatives.
- It’s simple to use and simple to unlock the trait lines.
Frankly, I don’t care if it’s called “elite spec” or “alternative” or … it’s just jargon and, as in most of civilization, jargon doesn’t stand up to careful scrutiny of the word choice.
Are there players still out there that really dislike the old style? I’m still confused why.
Are there players that really like cutscenes?
I don’t mean to make light of your opinion, only that the way you phrased it makes light of mine. As explained above by others, a cutscene interrupts the flow of the game and it looks awkward to me (a picture is worth 1000 words and 40 seconds of video is 1000 pictures at 25 FPS).
The only thing like about cutscenes better is that it’s more obvious how to skip them (press the ‘skip’ button), although there are plenty of other ways to do that with in-game dialogue.
To be fair, both styles are imperfect, especially as implemented in GW2. But it comes down to personal preference — and there’s nothing objective about that.
So in the end, I’m in favor of ANet doing which ever is easier to design, implement, and maintain. In case of a ‘tie’, I’m okay if they flip a coin.
To be fair, Dulfy’s numbering was added before the game included one. So it’s not “wrong”, just different. For reasons that are unclear to me, ANet chose not to follow Dulfy’s system, Dulfy didn’t update her guide to adjust to the game developer’s numbers, and the wiki hasn’t published a comparison.
I thought eotm WAS the lobby…
It was designed as a place for people to play WvW (and vendor) if their maps were full, since there’s no limit to how many maps spawn. It turned into a karma train shortly after it was introduced. i.e. it’s a lobby
Power builds are already “viable” — they just aren’t as efficient as condi builds right now.
In fractals, it shouldn’t matter — if you’re getting kicked, it’s easy enough to start your own group or join another who realizes that knowing the mechanics is far more important.
In raids, it’s trickier — there’s good reason for PUG commanders to prefer condi builds for many encounters. Still, if you’re keen on power, start your own group or see if you can find a static, where it won’t matter as much.
All foes have their own aggro mechanic, not just bosses. Sometimes toughness matters most, sometimes it’s who’s causing the most pain or the weakest etc.
Rabid or even Dire is fine while you are saving up for Viper’s. Sinister is better if you have access to that from old living story or whatever.
Still no fix?
Since there wasn’t an update today, no.
Sounds as if your game was already disconnecting, it just hadn’t gotten around to it yet. Seeing a hostile player in a city was a symptom, not a cause. For example, when you haven’t fully loaded into a zone, you’ll sometimes see ‘ghosts’ or various ‘artifacts’ of the designs as you complete loading.
In your shoes, I wouldn’t worry about it. If it happens again, I’d file a support ticket and (if possible) start running pingplotter (or something similar) to see how stable my connection to ANet is.
Sometimes I feel bad about passing by an NPC trawling for heroes to help. Sometimes, I feel that the NPC earned their ‘right’ to go it alone.
For example, in Southsun Cove, up on arrival, I’m greeted by Bradain whining, " Excuse me! Do you have a moment?" over and over and over again. My response: give it a rest, pal. If it were a real problem, they’d send a real NPC over to make an actual request for actual help.
In contrast, just down the road, Glomm has an emergency: “You seem competent enough. I could use your help dealing with a troubling…issue that has arisen”
Thanks for the tip, Danikat. I probably wouldn’t have considered Iron Marches.
Can you show a screenshot of the booster you mean, please? I have used xp boosters recently and they work fine for me.
Actually: thank you
You’re the one that noticed the discrepancy, did the math, and took the time to post about it. You did the heavy lifting.
have run into enough bots in this game and others that can’t deny that people do either.
I suspect that there aren’t nearly as many bots as people think there are. I’ve certainly seen them, I just don’t think they are ubiquitous.

Do you mean that when you hover over an item in game, that it would pop up the wiki details? The only games I know that do that use officially-edited resources (that is, they pay people to write & vet the articles). This wiki is entirely player run — the only official influence is that ANet runs the servers (so they choose which version of wiki software — although that’s largely decided by the volunteer moderators; ANet mostly decides when).
So this wiki can’t be a “pop-up” inside the game, in case someone chooses to … be too creative with an edit before someone catches it.
I might have misunderstood what you’re looking for, though. It might be something the wiki could do.
There’s a bug in the wiki software adding up the points, so this note is appropriate for the talk page so the wiki gurus can fix it.
Which is why you should always report wiki discrepencies on the relevant talk page (even if you also mention them elsewhere).
So you are saying that the total expressed in the text above the list is a formula?
Assuming that is true, I wouldn’t have any way to know that – I thought a person wrote that into the text. I also didn’t know it was “wrong” (therefore my question), so I wouldn’t presume to say so in the wiki talk.
However, it is a generally good note that if you do see something wrong with the wiki to bring it up in the Talk page.
I was just trying to provide you with an explanation; I didn’t expect anyone to realize it was a formula.
I went to look at the page to figure out why it was wrong — if someone typed in a bad number, I was planning to update it with yours (after verifying, of course ). It was only after the research that I figured out it used a formula and that seemed to be broken. (And that’s where I’m out of my depth — couldn’t figure out how to fix it.)
This is among the reasons why it’s best to ask the question on the wiki — someone there will figure it out (and if not, you can always ask here or reddit etc).
I want to actively encourage you to engage with the wiki community. I really didn’t mean to shut down your question or discourage you from asking here — I’m sorry that it might have come across that way.
And it’s always better to ask on the wiki talk page, regardless of whether you are sure or unsure about whether it was a typo, a mistake, someone failing to update a previously true number, or something you might have missed.

Welcome to Tyria
Yeah i understand why, but that does not make it anyless annoying, LOL. Their has got to be better ways though, like limit amount of items i can buy too like 1 an hour or two.
Of course it’s annoying for players. It’s also annoying that I have to lock my front door, buy new mailboxes (because a thief broke the last ones). Criminals require us to go out of our way to secure our valuables and games aren’t immune.
It takes time for ANet’s retailer to confirm that credit cards are legit. Adding a bit of wiggle room, that’s roughly the delay for allowing folks to trade.
In other words, you (and everyone else) have to wait 4 days because that’s how long it takes to be sure that you’re a gamer and not a thief.
Also just checked the wiki for first time, not impressed too say the least.
Could you be more specific? What were you looking for? What did you expect to see?
The GW2 is among the most thorough gaming resources I’ve ever seen. It’s comprehensive, it includes all sorts of information I wouldn’t even know to ask about.
But it’s written by player volunteers, so it’s also only as good as they know to make it. If there’s something wrong or hard to find, please help them make it better by offering details that will allow them to serve your needs better.
Just a generic question, are some trophies worth keeping for any reason, and what would that reason be?
You can safely use the “sell junk” button at vendors. Some ‘trophies’ are used for heart quests (and those are typically easily replaced). There are also some items that are used for collections. You can shift-click the item (or items) and then prepend with /wiki to check whether they are needed for anything else — if the wiki doesn’t show a special use, you don’t need to save it.
e.g. /wiki [Shimmering Crystal]
Whats current max now…. 186?
OP is discussing the total unlocks available, not how many mastery points you can spend to date.
There’s a bug in the wiki software adding up the points, so this note is appropriate for the talk page so the wiki gurus can fix it.
Which is why you should always report wiki discrepencies on the relevant talk page (even if you also mention them elsewhere).
A sigil affects all skills while the weapon set with the sigil is active. For example, with an off-hand sigil of force, damage is increased for main-hand, utility, and bundle skills. The effects continue during most transformations.
So _DumDum_’s charge should include the sigil effects.
The underwater section of Bitterfrost has 4 coral, so you can get 10 unbound gathers/day plus the coral, and then do a bit of berry farming. In Ember Bay, there’s a bunch of coral not far from the seaweed farm.
Is it crazy if there really are voices in your head?
There are people who like adventure, action, complexity, teamwork… and sometimes there are people who simply like to farm and grind (alone or in a team).
An MMO game should address all types of players, for different moods a player could have, and player can feel happy in different paths of entertainment.
In my opinion grinding and farming is an important part of an MMO. This still reminds me of the good old days in WoW.
^ This! Very well said.
There are a few loud people complaining about the engi farm and passing judgement on what other people are content to do with their game time.
Now it seems to have gained notice https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/6ec2az/chris_clearly_engi_leather_farmbots_working_on_it/^ This right here. Thank you for posting that. Now we have Anets attention.
This has always had ANet’s attention. They just don’t bother to respond to every single thread, to repeat the same things they said before.
What the OP wants to measure is Supply Rate/Hour. There are several factors that affect that, including the amount of supply delivered per route, the speed, whether escorted, and whether under threat.
If there’s a pesky havoc camped outside of your North camp, a speedy Yak might escape to Garri while defended by one ally; a packed Yak isn’t likely to survive. If Vale keeps getting flipped, you might only get the first set of yaks off, but without escorts; again, speedy Yaks are more likely to escape.
During any peaceful period, when you can ‘swift’ the Yaks repeatedly, ‘Packed’ getting double supply 33% more quickly is worth 2.66 normal Yaks versus only double for Speedy Yaks.
So ‘best’ depends on your situation:
- Peacetime, no escort: doesn’t matter; double impact.
- Peacetime, escorted: Packed is better by 33% (= 2.66/2) or more.
- Wartime vs Havoc, undefended: doesn’t matter; no supply getting through.
- Wartime vs Havoc, modest defense: Speedy is probably a lot better
- ZvZ nearby: lucky to get any supply through & Speedy has the edge.
However, I have yet to be made aware of how someone AFK/bot farming has negatively affected my enjoyment of the game. Maybe they have and I just don’t realize it.
Whenever people cheat the system to get rewards without effort, it affects everyone else, especially in a game (like GW2) that has a completely global economy. The more bots there are, the more coin flows into the economy, along with other forms of wealth. That affects how much gold there is for bots to buy the shinies they sell on the black market and the price we get for own own loot.
That’s the part that affects you or I, regardless of whether we are concerned about the act of AFK farming or of botting.
It’s still broken, i’m afraid. It’s around half a year already, and there’s not even an indication that Anet’s even aware that something may not be right.
There’s been an indication, among other sources, there’s the Curated Issue Tracker
Issue: Gendarran Fields: Not So Secret Jumping Puzzle: Launch pads will sometimes launch players too far.
Status: Investigating = we are aware of the issue, but haven’t yet found a fix for it.
Trinity was awful from the first time it was used. It’s a boring way to think of a fight: each person comes in with one job and only one job & has to do nothing but that. In this game, it’s different because everyone has to take care of some of their own support, all of their own active defense, & mostly everyone has some responsibility for damage.
The reason chrono is preferred for tank isn’t just that it can control the mob(s), it’s also that it brings other utility, too (alacrity, quickness). Warriors are DPS & support. And so on.
The reason a lot of people like to stick to a meta composition is that it’s easier. It’s easier to put out the LFG, it’s easier to find people who can handle a single task, it’s easier to see if people know what they are doing. In static groups, people can (and do) have a lot more variation, because you don’t have to worry about finding people or knowing what they can do.
The biggest problem this game has is that too many of us are used to their being only one way to succeed, so we assume that’s true here, too. There are so, so many posts about the ‘proper’ comp, the ‘optimum’ build, where… that’s simply not true in this game — there are many comps that will work, many builds.
QTFY shows us that there’s a particular build that’s optimum for folks who can play optimally. That doesn’t mean such builds are best-suited for those of us who play sub-optimally.
Rauderi might be right that ANet isn’t doing nearly enough with designing (and redesigning) fights to take advantage of the system. But things are already far more interesting than they’d be under a formal trinity system. And we know this because top players can kill Sabetha with just pistol thieves.

Wait what? Ree Soesbee doesn’t write story?
Keep in mind that the voice actors almost always record their bits in a single studio session, which means all six episodes were probably recorded last spring.
Besides that, I’m sure much of the plot was already established before she left. The first story released in July 2016, which means actual programming started on it no later than March-April (and the story was probably being worked on even before that). Unless she stayed for 8 months or more after she tendered her resignation, she must have had a substantive influence on the plot, if not some (or much) of the dialogue.
tl;dr Soesbee likely had a profound influence on LS3’s plot and probably dialogue.
But reporting won’t change the fact that there is an incentive to fail the event and doesn’t solve the problem.
Which is why, if you re-read my first post (the one to which you originally replied), I pointed out that ANet can only adjust things when they are aware that there’s an issue. They don’t intentionally create events to make them more rewarding if they fail, it’s an accident of rewards & respawn rates & drop rates and clever players trying to figure out how to get loot more quickly.
They have changed many, many events to prevent exactly this sort of thing, including many in Orr and more than one substantial rework of the Coiled Watch chain in Frostgorge.
The number of people who are effected doesn’t really matter.
Of course it matters. If only one person out of 500,000 is affected, then it’s not as urgent as if 499,000 are affected. The amount of resources is substantive, to rework events so that failure is no more rewarding than success — it shouldn’t be done lightly.
If only a few people cannot do an event because someone or a group actively hinders him/her, that’s a problem. Ignoring it because it doesn’t affect a majority of players would give the message that ArenaNet doesn’t care about you.
Of course ANet doesn’t care about any single person, as much as they might like to care about each of us — their job is to sell games. Their hope is that everyone is happy playing their games. But they know (and really, I assume you probably know this, too) that there will always be issues, that they can’t get to all of them (let alone immediately to any particular one). They’d like to; they just won’t be able to.
I agree that this should be fixed. My point is that it’s not urgent — that’s not the same as saying it’s not an issue.
This is not really a thing where you can convincingly take the side of the zerg. Zaithan’s minions are trying to take the fortress, the heroes are supposed to fight them back. That is how the developers intended the event, there’s no room for interpretation.
I’m not taking the side of the zerg and there’s nothing on what I’ve typed that suggests otherwise. I’m taking no one’s side at all — I agree with you that it’s bad for failing events to be more rewarding than successful ones, I agree that they should be adjusted, I agree that people shouldn’t be rude or hateful, I agree that ANet should act upon reports like the OP’s.
The only point for which you & I disagree is the urgency. That’s it.
The right thing to do for the zerg would be to just miss a cycle and let people do the event. That OP let the zerg go about their business and only started killing the boss when they were done is a courtesy that I would expect from the zerglings.
I don’t think there’s a moral argument we can make. It’s hard to get an entire crowd to agree on a plan — someone in the zerg might think they need the loot as bad as the OP thought that they should experience the event cycle succeeding (or to get a component for a legendary).
Sure, in general, I’d like it if people were universally helpful and cooperative, but do you really think any of us or ANet can’t force that upon anyone? Some people think (and have said as much) that the right thing for rich people to do would be to spend less on shinies, so that they are also affordable for the poorer in the game — that’s a similar level of cooperation.
tl;dr some people behaved abominably toward the OP and I think the OP should report them (& I hope that ANet can identify them and take appropriate action). I think it’s a bad thing that some event/event chains are more rewarding if they fail and I think ANet should fix them.
I just don’t think it’s as urgent as some people suggest. I think there are other issues in the game that are more important (and some that aren’t as important but are much easier to fix/change).

If nothing has changed since they said it in 2015:
- Every expansion will always include the core game and past expansions.
- Veterans will always need to purchase the expansion (since that’s “future content” relative to what has been paid for).
Kickstarter is a great way to kick start new projects, many of which don’t come to fruition.
However, it’s a terrible way to run a studio. Fan interests wax & wane, priorities change, technical issues arise (and sometimes the solutions create opportunity for changing the game fundamentally). It takes months to design, plan, test, and implement (not to mention maintain) and some ideas work well with others, some work against each other.
And even if that wasn’t true, a large part of the community wouldn’t participate for one reason or another, and so those who contribute aren’t necessarily the best ones to decide on things.
You want something? Suggest is here and encourage your friends to endorse it. Gem purchase not required to enter.
Explorable mode is unlocked per character, not per account. It’s an annoying holdover from some of the character-binding that existed when the game launched.
Glad to hear it.
Things could be better, but they aren’t dire.
Well, I sure hope that is not ArenaNet’s view on griefing. Just put yourself into the person who wants to do an event, and then a bunch a players come and scale up the boss so you cannot do the event. Or a small group makes it a hobby to join Triple Trouble events to kill the Amber head so fast that the event will fail every time.
Griefing is nothing to take lightly.
I’m not taking “griefing” lightly — I’m saying it’s not a dire problem for the majority of the population. Most people don’t experience it, because many of the events have already been tweaked appropriately. The exceptions can be addressed by reporting people who are verbally abusive and letting ANet handle it.
That, of course, isn’t going to take the sting away from people at the sharp end of the abuse, such as the OP. But nothing addresses that, except for a thick skin (which many of us do not have) or time (and for some of us, it never really goes away).
There’s nothing that ANet can do about hurt feelings — they can address technical and design flaws or issues that make it more likely.
I think OP is onto something when he says to make the helmets have hair included rather than standardly forcing all characters to be bald.
As long as you accept that the hair would be specific to the headgear and not your character’s customized hair. It would also have far less animation, less texture, and use one of the four dye channels from the armor. That ‘missing link’ is what allows ANet to release more skins (gear + styles) more often.
In other words, that suggestion doesn’t address the root technical issue.
(edited by Illconceived Was Na.9781)
I’m bald IRL and I kind of feel like your making fun of me. There’s nothing wrong with being bald, many people like it. My characters are bald also buecause I try to make them look like me. I don’t mind the baldness, I love it. Why are you shaming people for being bald. You are basically saying bald people are ugly…
Don’t put words that aren’t there. We’re talking about outfits ina game, not people irl.
You’re complaining about bald characters. Your issue could be restated as “don’t hide my character’s hair”, which would come across as different. The respondent might be overreacting… but the words you chose opened your statement up to misunderstand.
Regardless, ANet isn’t hiding character hair because they want to. There’s a technical reason for it. The very things you love about hair in this game (colors and animations and textures) conflict with how headgear works (including that on outfits).
To remove the conflict would require writing new code that allows that to happen, retrofitting every existing hairstyle & headgear to make it work with the new code (whether it is actually changed or not), and doing more QA on future designs. That would be expensive enough to reduce the number of new skins we see, including outfits, armor, and hair.
For better or worse, the developers decided to keep the status quo (hiding hair with most headgear) to allow them to release more skins.
That leaves us with these choices:
- Hiding headgear (can be done for outfits, too)
- Not using (or even buying) gear (or outfits) that hide hair.
- Embrace the hairlessness.
Redditor Amerika-jinn put together this comprehensive post on how epidemic works.
I recommend reading the full post, which includes examples and deeper explanations. For convenience, here’s the short version:
Veterans of the subreddit may remember a time years past when we came together as a community and created the Reddit made “Did You Know?” series for each profession. I figured I’d Necro (forgive the pun) the series for a special two-week-after-rework-anniversary Epidemic MegaPost Special!
TL;DR Section:
Attributes of Epidemic:
• 900 radius from Prime Target
• Projectiles “seek” targets for approx. 1500 range
• Picks 5 nearby targets
• Will account for range/height difference in real time
• Will not transfer conditions if the prime target dies/cleanses conditions
• Works on Stealthed Targets, both Prime (if you cast before stealth) and Secondary
• Blocked by Invuln
• Avoided with dodge
• Can’t be reflected
• Targets random hitboxes throughout the game
• Doesn’t work on targets with the Resistance Boon (as well as siege) in WvWBonus Info:
• Can hit Xera Crystals
• Works with Parasitic Contagion for Good hp gain
• Epidemic Bouncing still works
Reminder: I didn’t put this together. Questions, corrections, and suggestions should be directed to the author on Reddit .
It’s true that people complain about change — that’s human nature.
However, I don’t see that there’s an issue that needs to be addressed here and I’m not sure that your suggestion would have the impact you hope for. Toughness already gets used for various purposes now. It’s even useful in PvE for players that are less comfortable going ‘glass’ with optimized builds for DPS that require excellent active defense.
(edited by Illconceived Was Na.9781)
Yes, I’m sorry I wasn’t clear earlier. The idea is to let Braham clear for about half the time, to give you a head start. Then you finish them off quickly to the timed achievement.
If you get a “bad roll” (i.e. Braham doesn’t clear many), then still use the time to practice your technique of “balling up the foes” so that the ‘bull’ will mow them down like a 20-lb ball taking out 10 pins
Good luck and please keep us posted on your progress.
So much this. If story/lore is what you actually want, then just ask for a cleared instance.
If you are a lore completionist, this won’t be enough — there’s a bit of interesting lore that happens right before, during, and after the encounters; it won’t appear in cleared instances. (In particular, releasing the Shackled Prisoner is a big deal to those interested in GW1’s story.)
Again, I’m not in favor of ANet spending resources to retrofit existing instances. I also don’t want to dismiss the interest of those primarily concerned with lore and I hope that ANet finds a way to address this for future wings.
Let’s get on that … right after easy mode arah.
But most of the lore is in a cleared instance or right before the fight. Or, heck, fight the boss and fail if you care about dialog.
I guess you didn’t read my second paragraph — I don’t think ANet should do this. I’m pointing out that not all the lore is available in a cleared instance and that lore is important to some people.
And there already is a story mode for Arah that can be done alone. And although explorable mode can be difficult for some, it’s not that hard to find a few people who can carry a couple of folks through. That’s not true for non-raiders wanting to experience the lore.
Again, even though I accept the lore-related argument, I still don’t think it’s a good use of ANet’s resources to add a story mode or even a different level of difficulty.
maybe not, but we can’t know it for sure. But attacking him craftily is really weird.
It wasn’t “craftily” — the antagonist trapped them in the lab, brought his own army, and threatened them.
My wife and I actually managed to duo all stories, the only hard time we had was during CoF and Hotw. But it is doable. I played support guardian and she played standard ele.
Awesome
Thanks for letting us know about your successes.
Next challenges (should you choose to accept them):
- Duo explorable mode dungeons (a few require tricks, for which a mesmer is really helpful).
- Duo the lower tier fractals.
Duoing higher-tier fractals can be really tricky, except for some of the game’s top players. The T1s aren’t that bad (although again, you’ll need to use tricks from a mesmer or something similar for some, mostly non-combat, parts).
I know they have people assigned to different areas friend but perhaps a reassignment of people assets to more important things. Then again the gemstore is the cashcow… silly me.
Assigning people from the gemshop to anything else probably means… firing them — gems purchased with dollars & euros amount to a significant fraction of ANet’s income during most of the year.
You don’t like cowboy outfits? Don’t buy them. Other folks will like the fluff and they’ll spend their hard-earned (or softly-inherited) cash so that folks like you & me don’t have to pay subscription fees.
@OP: I’m sorry you had such a miserable experience.
Failure providing more incentive than success is a failure in game design and should be addressed by ArenaNet.
Sure. And the way to address that is by posting the name of the event, an estimate of comparable rewards, and the request to change it. ANet can’t change things until it knows what the issues are. Even then, not all “poor design” situations need to be urgently addressed. There are tons and tons of events in Cursed Shore, so everyone has options, whether they are greedy + reward-driven, interested in trying all the events, or just want their dailies.
An event (and its rewards) aren’t “toxic”; it’s how a tiny fraction of players behave. Things could be better, but they aren’t dire.
Almost every weapon class does more damage than its greater version.
There’s no such thing as a “greater version” of a weapon. Daggers might look like tiny swords and greatswords like big swords, but (especially in this game), they aren’t related. They serve different functions.
The only thing that matters is they can be used for their in-game intended purpose. I think they do, but I’m willing to entertain an argument about why they might not, if the OP is willing to type one up.
So much this. If story/lore is what you actually want, then just ask for a cleared instance.

Talking works well when there’s some element of trust to start with. However, it’s a good way to give psychopaths an opportunity to regroup and counter whatever “Plan B” you’ve prepared. Faux-Lazarus is not a “normal person” — he lied, trapped our heroes (and Phlunt’s team) in the lab, brought a horde of mercenaries, and… came to steal a machine from us. His intentions were never honorable.
tl;dr this isn’t about “judging” anyone; the time for talking passed long ago (if it ever existed).
