All this talk about difficulty of recreating it doesn’t really matter

Of course it matters — I think the point you make later is that other things also matter.

The question is whether the game will be healthier going into the future with what we have right now or something more indepth.

Sure, that’s in fact one of the questions that the developers addressed when discussing LS1 — according to them, there are more people interested in new stuff than in seeing a repeat or even just going backwards.

In other words, they believe the game would be healthier going forward.

Heck all these kill Braham and Majory comments we’ve seen over the year are tied to the fact that these people are strangers. I don’t care if any of them do die because according to my own story they kidnapped me and tried to fill my head with nonsense about me being their boss.

Actually, I can’t agree. Some people who participated in LS1 never had any warm fuzzies for some/any of the NPCs. Scarlet, in particular, was fiercely hated by many during the time of LS1. (Hated as an idea, not as one hates a well-written antagonist — that was the critique, although I enjoyed her as the villain.)

Further, we see figures in the original personal story that generate their own negative critiques. If you play only humans, you don’t get any strong sense of Zojja or Eir, so they both seem whiny in dungeons and during the final fight against Zhaitan. Trahearne, of whom we learn much more, was particularly disliked as a character.

In other words, the absence of LS1 isn’t the reason that people don’t care about some NPCs — there are all sorts of story-driven and/or story-writing reasons for that.

New players have issues regarding the story and that will reflect itself in retention. If there going to use these characters then one would think they’d need proper introductions first.

I agree with this — I just don’t agree that revamping S1 is the best way to do that.

We should be able to turn in stacks of this stuff in exchange for rewards.

No, I don’t agree that we should be able to turn in anything for more rewards. The game is already generous — we just hate to delete stuff and we hate the idea that there’s any loot we can’t use somehow.

If the mats dropped less often, we’d be complaining that it was too grindy to acquire.

Can't make Thaw Elixir

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Illconceived Was Na.9781

If I understand you correctly, I must be carrying ONLY the correct amount of ingredients? Because I was carrying 50+ winterberries, 30+ suet, and 15 or so eggshells, plus the one firestone.

And — I take damage standing near enough to the cauldron to interact with it, and I see other people standing in the same place and getting the buff no problem. Are you sure about this?

You can have too many; you can’t have too few.
(If you have too few, the firestone will be removed without granting you the buff — that’s what the previous poster referred to.)

If you get interrupted by taking damage, then the ingredients will be removed without completing the elixir. The game doesn’t care why or how you got interrupted.

And to be clear, you don’t actually get an elixir to consume — you just get the buff as if you obtained and then drank it.

One possibility is that you’re standing too close to the spot that damages you, so try sneaking up so that you get an [f] prompt without losing health.

Another thing that’s worth trying is to ask someone in the map for help — you just want them to go with you to the HoT Springs while you talk them through what you’re about to do… and then what you are doing — sometimes describing the play-by-play to another person helps you figure out the the misstep .

Good luck and please let us know how you get on.

The Nightmare one wasn’t even available in LW1.

Parts of the interior of the Nightmare Tower are present in the Nightmare Fractal. The non-CM bosses have similarities to foes fought in Tower instances. It’s definitely not a close match, like we find with Molten + Molten Bosses & Aether + Aether Boss (aka Mai Trin).

We have to assume that if they were to bring back S1 (which, as noted above, they aren’t going to this before 2020), they’d be making wholesale modifications to many of the encounters — first, because the gameplay is different today and secondly, because it was designed to be temporary, which makes a lot of assumptions about difficulty and replayability compared permanent content.

In other words, yes, Nightmare Fractal is different from Nightmare Tower instances & open world… and that might be exactly the sort of thing we’d find in a restoration.

Any one else think that those nerfs mostly to espec are just in order to make the new one to shine??

I think that nerfs are as important as buffs in balancing, and both are cheaper than overhauling skills

Mesmer phantasms were buffed, a few skills got increased cooldowns (so a ‘nerf’), and a few were overhauled (e.g. epidemic). I’d like to take time to play the game with the changes before offering an opinion about whether they matter at all, let alone with whether they were bad or good for the game generally.

And generally, I don’t care whether ANet changed anything to make room for future changes — if the changes are good for gameplay, I’m in favor regardless of any ‘hidden’ motivations behind them.

Illconceived Was Na.9781

Today I’m here to talk about Anet’s coding and their public admittance that they cannot change certain aspects of the game

You’ve confused “have chosen not to” with “cannot change.” There are hundreds of people working at ANet, so there’s very little that they ‘cannot’ do. The question is: which of the 18,385 good ideas should they work on? Even if they doubled their staff, there would still be great suggestions that they wouldn’t have the resources to consider.

The question usually isn’t “can we do this?”, rather it’s “what else could we be doing with the same resources?”

So even if you gifted Mike O’Brien with the cash to hire 100 more people (and we ignore finding & training them and that developers aren’t interchangeable), ANet isn’t going to suddenly decide, “ohey, we can retrofit LW Season #1 into the game” — they are going to look at everything that’s on the list of good ideas. It’s not going to magically make it easier to do the things that they have decided to put off indefinitely.

In short, the issue isn’t a lack of resources; it’s that there are always going to be more good ideas than there are people to design, test, and implement them.

Then delete them.

There are a variety of uses for obby shards, just none that appeal to you. That’s what happens with account-bound currencies/mats.

Personally, I’d use them to make Fulgurite — jeweled patches and dowels command a huge premium over the component mats and also their unjeweled counterparts.

If not, then you won’t be waiting as long to help resolve the issue.

Is it possible that you missed looting the chest the first time you killed Ignis after being eligible for the drop? If so, the game’s reward mechanic might think you’ve gotten the drop (even though the collection doesn’t).

Other possibilities: you got it on a different character or you already converted it via druid stone. (I’m sure you’ve thought about both of those; it might be worth double-checking, if only because it doesn’t take long to do so.)

It would probably be better if they oversimplified the pull downs, because ultimately, someone still has to review the ticket and decide to which ANet team it goes. Player classifications aren’t going to correct a lot of the time.

So don’t worry too much about the choices you make when using the in-game /bug tool. Do worry about the details you include in the description: do you best to make it possible for ANet to follow your footsteps so that they can recreate the conditions that you experienced. If you can, then they can figure out what caused the bug, and resolve it … regardless of how it was classified.

Starting a guild is hard; running a guild is harder. Make sure it’s what the two of your really want and be clear to yourselves about your goals. Do you want a tiny guild with just close friends? A small guild with a group that enjoys doing stuff together? A guild focused on a certain type of gaming (e.g. WvW havoc or Fractals or …)?

Also ask yourselves whether you might be able to get the same warm fuzzies from joining an established guild.

Once your clear on your goals, you can put together a plan for how to make it happen. For example, if you want a fractal group, you can recruit by PUGging until you find like-minded players. Or if open world PvE is your thing, run hero point trains or lore-tours and (a few) people will ask if you have a guild.

Good luck.

From your posts and dev reports, I can see that the chances of any of us ever seeing Season 1 again are slim to none. I even recently watched that detailed 3-hour video that explores the entire season. It’s really such a shame to see such inspiring and awesome thing to just be left forgotten…

Just another thing to add to the list, I guess. I’m really, really sad that I never managed to get into this game sooner. What ANet did was probably one of the worst decisions I’ve ever seen in a video-game.

It is a shame. Even the developers would love to find a way to make it happen.

The reality is that we players have no idea just how much is involved in putting together the Living World Seasons. I’ve done the research for these posts and I am pretty sure I barely have a clue of how involved it is.

Of course, at some point, LS1 might be old enough to inspire the same level of nostalgia-gasms that we’ve seen about Elona and Cantha… and people might prefer to go back rather than forward. As it stands now, there is a strong core of people wanting to see LS1, but there is a much much larger group that wants something new.

It would [take] longer than 6 months.

ANet Ben

If things went smoothly, with the entire living world team plus extra veteran developers working on it, maybe 6 months is theoretically possible. But with old content, things rarely go smoothly. Issues pop up that you weren’t expecting that increase the amount of time required. And even if it was feasible in 6 months, taking all those developers off of new content just isn’t worth it IMO. We have way cooler things that we can work on.

ANet Ben

one of the problems is much of the content is not instanced, and theres also a TON of bugs in that content that would need to be fixed, since our game code and tools have changed so much since then.

ANet Ben:

Question: If it had been even a minor priority when this was first requested back at the start of Season 2 — nearly three years ago! — it’d have been done by now, surely?

Answer from ANet Ben: That would have pushed back everything a lot. Season 3 would be behind, the expansions would have been behind, new content is a better use of developer time. I wish Season 1 had been built differently, but alas it was not.

ANet Ben

Question: Any chance that we as players (and surely lot of us are programmers, 3D modelers and coders) could help?

ANet Ben’s Answer: As cool as that sounds, there’s a lot of logistical issues with something like that, and it would still require a lot of dev time to coordinate. Plus, more leak potential.

Developer Quotes
https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/5dk50e/the_return_of_living_world_season_1_is_important/da5sxjx/

Without saying anything definitively about a re-packaging of Living World Season 1 (because that’s the domain of studio heads to make such decisions) I just thought I would chime in as a story team lead to say that the work to do this would be a significant undertaking, and may in fact be harder to do than creating a new Living World season, given how much has changed in our pipelines since then.

A simple, but specific example is how we do all our VO, which is now in a totally different format that is a lot more flexible for us (it’s how we got player VO back, as well as the ability to have characters walk and talk). Going back to those old content objects and converting them over to the new format would be weeks of work by themselves, not to mention we’d probably want to add player VO to get around the awkward way we had to tell story in that season.

I’ve also taken a look at what it would take to update all the story beats and convert them from using the special event UI to living in the journal and since none of those objects exist (Season 1 didn’t use QuestDef’s which are the objects that show up in the journal) there’s weeks of work there too, as the quests would all need to be created now, and everything would need to be unhooked from the event system and plumbed into the story journal, which on some levels is starting over from scratch given how the underlying story structure is scripted. Some of the gameplay can just get ported over without too much trouble, other things rely on actions/skills/etc. that we’ve since deprecated for perf reasons or to address bugs, so even the idea of copying and pasting encounters isn’t “free”.

I don’t say all this as discouragement for those who would love to see a Season 1 Redux – but I just wanted to clear up any misconceptions that the community might have about the challenges that such an effort would entail. To my knowledge this is still something that we’ve kept on our backlog as there are plenty of devs who also want to see us make such an investment someday. As some have pointed out, we haven’t said no to this, but it hasn’t yet risen to the top of our priority list given our other releases and plans for Guild Wars 2.

I hope that offers a bit more insight into this question.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/5dk50e/the_return_of_living_world_season_1_is_important/da5trw2/

To add to Matthew’s point, IF we were to undertake such a project I would like to revise, add to, or rewrite sections of that story to make it stronger (similar to how we improved the Personal Story last year). These things take time. Just including voice-over on a project instantly adds two-to-three months for recording and localization and doesn’t include things like prototyping, iteration, script revisions, etc. We couldn’t (and wouldn’t even if we could) simply “port” Season 1 into the new framework. There would be a substantial amount of revision involved. Anyone who thinks it would be “easy” to redo Season 1 doesn’t fully understand the process or the time investment. I wouldn’t expect them to.

I don’t think people recognize just how much effort it is going to be to make a repeatable version of LS1. Of course it’s possible; it would just take an enormous amount of resources. And that seems like an unnecessary distraction, given that people are already jealous of ANet diverting any resources to anything that doesn’t fit their idea of a better game.

Out-of-Game, Historical Context

LS1 was designed and implemented as temporary content. It was part of a (since-discarded) plan by ANet to constantly introduce new content and gradually evolve the game, so that many existing maps would be unrecognizable (in terms of challenges, foes, etc). The idea was: much better use of resources to re-use the same zones and so much more exciting to keep adding new life to the existing world. Hence: the term Living World.

It was a great, epic idea and I wish it would have worked. I think part of the issue was ANet’s implementation (they bit off more than they could chew and there were lots of scaling, technical, and reward issues to start with, leaving a bad taste in people’s mouths about the concept). Part of the issue is also what we’re used to: we like repeatable content. We like being able to be absent from a game, without feeling that we missed something important (reward and lore both). We like having the chance do ALL THE THINGS in the game.

LS1 disrupted all our expectations and its implementation was rough (whether flawed or just slow to get going no longer matters). And ANet, sensibly, dropped the idea and turned LS2 into repeatable content.

Background, In Game Experience

There are three aspects that made LS1 epic:

  • It was not repeatable. You had to be there at the right time. (Notice this is exactly one of the primary issues that got ANet to drop the original concept: it was both a great idea and a fatal flaw.)
  • The open-world battles were epic. Unlike Auric Basin (which has an achievement for defending the city one hundred times), getting in a single victory was a combination of great mapwide teamwork, individual skill, and a bit of luck. It felt amazing each time (compared to DS, which feels disappointing if it’s not over quickly enough).
  • The instanced content was extremely challenging for nearly everyone. People scrambled like crazy to find ways to beat it. Depending on who you talk to (and how good their memories are), many would say it’s comparable to today’s fractals (perhaps T3-4 or less).

Final Background: To Make it Repeatable

To make it repeatable, we’d have to drop all three of the things that made it epic: it won’t be dynamic, it won’t include open world mega battles, and it won’t be super challenging for five people. So let’s presume that the only thing we can get is a facsimile of the story, told in chapters.

The original instances were designed for the mechanics of the day. They were designed to be temporary, so little thought was given to making them last. That means: they’d have to be redone, nearly from the ground up.

There were dialogues that took place in the open world, in areas that don’t exist anymore (or have different NPCs, foes now). Those would have to be turned into instanced content.

The open word battles would have to be included somehow, so that’s new cinematics or entirely new encounters meant to model the idea, with shorter cinematics to show the impact on Tyria.

To do all of the above requires rewriting parts of the story, rewriting the instances, redesigning encounters, adding new cinematics. All of that would need to be translated into French, Spanish, German, and Chinese. Some of the voice actors are no longer available, so ANet would have to hire substitutes (and decide whether to redo old dialogue or not — probably not).

In short, it’s an enormous amount of work to get us … another Living Story, which some people have already seen (and can’t possible meet expectations for epic-ness).
———————————————
So, sure, it’s possible. It’s just not practical given the pressures on ANet at this time.

Report people who abuse the use of 3rd party tools and move on. You aren’t going to convince ANet that a tool is inherently bad; you’ll just tie yourself into knots instead.

I don’t care in the least if one prof has 100 utilities and another has 30; it’s no different than some profs having access to more weapon skills than others. It’s the quality of the gameplay that makes things interesting, not the quantity.

For me, the revenant is a little dull: it’s not great at any niche, it’s not horrid at any niche; the style gets a little repetitive; and there’s not enough imo to distinguish the legends. Maybe that is rev’s niche: to be the benchmark of minimum effort builds.

But none of that is due to the “lack” of skills.

I took the time to read your scenario several times. I don’t think I’m missing anything. Your claim is that an account was hypothetically sanctioned in a situation in which the autoattack was not keeping the account logged in. The only evidence of that claim (in the scenario) is that the player says that’s not what they were doing.

I ask you again: how much do you think that matters, given that your scenario includes a GM whispering and getting no response?

The policy is extremely liberal — it’s so flexible that it allows people to watch videos while farming (which upsets a lot of folks). As long as the player can keep moving around, casting skills, it’s okay. Your scenario is way past that line — it includes someone being away long enough to get a GM whisper and long enough for the GM to record “no reply” as the response.

So why exactly is it that you think there’s any question at all about what should have happened?

The breakbar on the Legendary Wyverns. I can accept the argument it might be a perception rather than a true bug, however. I have never seen any group prevent his island-smashing attack.

I’ve seen it happen several times — it’s a very hard mechanic for the typical /map and it takes a while before the understanding trickles through. Some people still have trouble with the similar mechanics for Wyvern Matriarch (VB) & Vinetooth Prime (AB).

Do I think it should be adjusted? Definitely. The fights are a lot longer, harder than other DM bosses, and yet the loot is the same; seems to me that ANet should adjust one or the other. However, I don’t think we can count it as a ‘bug’.

Some of the (intended?) multiple tubes in the map are not very well chained together and can break (extremely nit-picky on my part, perhaps, and hardly a game-breaker).

It’s inconsistent. Be nice if they always chained together (requiring us to manually interrupt the process) or never chained, without a brief walk. But that’s the same on every other map with lava tubes and every one with bouncy mushrooms, too — some chain easily; some don’t. So again: worth adjusting? Sure, but not a bug.

Of course stuff can be improved. My point is that someone made it seem as if lots of things on the map were broken badly, commensurate with the disabled Fertile Soils or even the champ wurm.

Agreed.

In the past, this rarely mattered — there were relative few PvP-only changes, so they were easy to separate. In this patch, there are a lot of skills that weren’t changed at all for PvE, so it’s laborious to isolate them while reading.

In general, the formatting here doesn’t lend itself to presenting skill changes neatly, so it’s never going to be ‘great’. However, it could be better.

  • The pre-event to the worm showing up stalls frequently (the wurm eventually appears; it’s just painful and annoying to wait).
  • Oakheart’s Reach can launch you through a ‘hole’ in the environment and you have to WP to get out. (Most maps have holes like this; we just don’t usually notice because they are hard to find accidentally; O’s Reach makes it a lot easier to run into them.)

Drop Rates from 10k UnID Dyes

in Players Helping Players

https://redd.it/6bf9hg

Redditor Colbymg collected 10,000 unidentified dyes, opened them, and recorded the drop rates for each color

The tl;dr

  • Rare Dyes: 10.28%
  • Masterwork Dyes: 18.01%
  • Fine Dyes: 71.71%

That data is available at GW2 Profits (the website maintained by the author).

Additional notes of interest:

  • The price of unID dyes has been consistently higher than the expected value of the contents — like other lotto-style rewards in the game, people expect to be luckier than average and are willing to pay more for the chance of getting Abyss etc on the cheap.
  • The actual distributions are uneven. Fine dye drops varied from 24 to 55, so there might be an additional nuance to the drop rates.
  • Some dyes are worth substantially more to salvage and this can vary considerable during the day or the month.

Thanks to Colbymg aka our very own Mystic.5934 for spending a lot of coin and time to bring us this data.

I dont ask for you to agree with what i say here nessesarily .. but at least
have the degree of respect nessesary to try to actually understand the
point of view that i am presenting.

You might want to re-read what you wrote and consider if you are following your own advice.

Several people have attempted to parse your hypothetical to understand just what you think is the issue. You haven’t made that easy, since you haven’t offered any new details since your first post. They seem to have come to the same conclusion.

So you might want to consider whether it’s everyone else who is missing the point… or whether you’re reluctant to admit that you might be misunderstanding the situation. (And there’s no shame in that: we’ve all done that at some point in our gaming and real lives.)

This is a huge game changer for me.

Then show me where theese rules are that apply to the Scenario
i described .. cause as i have said .. i have found no rule that fit’s
the scenario.

Show me or Quote them.

Here are the rules you quoted:

1) Using skill (1 or more) while AFK
2) AFKing in a place where it is beneficial for your character to be at
3) Unresponsive to interaction with GMs

Here’s how you described the scenario:

  • “investigated by a GM while AFK”
  • “in a location that was Advantageous”
  • “With Auto-Cast Turned on”
  • “not funktional in a way as to facilitate Unattended Gameplay”
  • “not responding to the GM”
  • “there is anouther Funktion … that would/could interrupt the Auto-Logout”

The single point where your scenario differs from the quote by Chris Cleary is the claim “not functional in a way as to facilitate unattended gameplay” — why are you so sure that is true? And what difference does it make if the player was AFK?

Are you claiming that because NPCs kept the account from being auto-logged out that it was somehow OK to be AFK farming? Your hypothetical player was AFK and did not respond to the GM — what else is there to discuss?

And if the rules where so crystal clear as you imply, then there
would not be any need for an 8 page thread regarding this
topic, a Topic that since it’s creation has no definite answer
(As far as i can see) as to what the exact rules are.

The rules have been quoted, reposted, requoted, and we still have threads like this because… people don’t like the rule.

Some don’t like it because it’s too forgiving — farmers are able to watch videos while remaining sufficiently active to avoid action on their account and some people feel that’s wrong. Others don’t like it because it’s too strict — they are used to other games that actively encourage making money while AFK.

And take yourself: you’ve been offered suggestions for how to deal with the theoretical scenario; you don’t like any of them, so you keep posting. That’s got nothing to do with whether the rules are sufficiently clear.

In that case, you can either not do whatever you were doing before, or ask to have your Ticket escalated.

Good luck.

Let’s for arguments sake say that the issue was Escalated to a Senior GM
who stated that the Account-Owner was Automating Combat by using
the Auto-Cast Feature . .
While the Account-Owner knew this was not the case.

Let’s then again for Arguments Sake in this very fictional Scenario say
that the Case was then De-Escalated again to a normal GM who after
repeating the same Statement decided to shut down the case*.

What can the Account owner do in such a Fictional Scenario.

(*Remember again everyone that this is to be viewed as a Fictinal Scenario)

¥ameon

How does the account owner “know” that their interpretation of the situation is accurate?

ANet’s definition of AFK farming is liberal enough to allow people to watch a movie while playing. In a dispute, I’d tend to believe that Support got it right, unless the player could offer something other than a vague hypothetical.

How about if that in this Extremely Fictional Scenario The Account-owner
know how to replicate the Scenario and therefore also know that it would
be in the Log’s to see if he or She was Abusing the Auto-Cast Feature or not.

Alas for reasons unknown in this particular Fictional Scenario a thourough Re-investigation of the matter did not seem to occur.

(*The above mentioned Events are to be viewed as Fictional)
______________________________________________________________________________
¥ameon

Again, how is it that the fictional player knows more about what’s in the logs than the fictional ANet staffer? Why is the fictional plaintiff so sure that there wasn’t a proper investigation or re-investigation? ANet never takes action against an account without doing so.

So again, in the absence of an actual theoretical fact that explains the alleged discrepancy, there’s no reason for anyone on the forums to trust the plaintiff’s allegations over ANet’s review of the theoretical situation.

As others have said, either push graciously to escalate the ticket or accept that ANet’s not going to change its mind about what happened.

LW Season 1 had the best story

in Living World

Illconceived Was Na.9781

They have answered this question before. It’s not easy. All of that content was designed when the game was a lot different, skills were different, players were less familiar with mechanics, megaservers weren’t in play yet.

Some events were instanced; many were not. And much as I liked LS1, a lot of what made it great was the spontaneity — content only lasted a few weeks, the meta had to be figured out quickly, and then poof, it was gone. I’m not sure how well some it would hold up if it were permanent.

In all likelihood, this would cost as much (and perhaps even more) than creating LS4 or LS5 and it’s nearly impossible for them to get it “right” so that both veterans and newbies would be satisfied with the results.

In short, this wouldn’t make them money; it would be a distraction to the progress they’re making in pushing the game in new directions.

Controll support?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Illconceived Was Na.9781

Illconceived Was Na.9781

There’s no chance that this game is getting official support for controllers anytime soon. The devs have briefly commented that it’s not something that they are considering. I’m not sure how hard it is to get it setup, but it would add to the headache of testing — one more set of things to check, one more set of interactions, especially since the game wasn’t designed from the start with this in mind.

However, there seems to be a lot of unofficial support — there have been various posts on reddit and elsewhere of people outlining how they got their controller to work with the game. The main caveat I’d offer is: be sure to update whatever 3rd party software you use — when gw2 updates, it will sometimes break the ‘hooks’ that people use to make stuff like that work. Sometimes it will mean going a day or two without controller support until whatever gets adjusted.

Bring in a new playable race

Illconceived Was Na.9781

I still don’t see how it would make the game better.

It would require a LOT of developer resources devoted to something that already only a small amount of players want. It adds no endgame content. It adds no new classes. It adds no new weapon/armor skins.

From a roleplay perspective, it adds nothing that a simple endless tonic couldn’t add. Nothing.

It just adds nothing to the game.

You mean, it adds nothing that you care about. It definitely adds a lot for other people, other wise there wouldn’t be a new thread about it every month or so.

I’m in agreement with you that it’s an inefficient use of resources for ANet; it’s not the best thing for them to do with their limited time. That’s not the same as it having no value.

I have yet to see a single argument that shows how adding a new race would make the game better in any way.

Better in what way?

I’m not big on leveling alts, but I like doing the early stories. All of the charr stories are a lot of fun, as are nearly all the asura and sylvari stories. It would be a lot of fun to have a new race, just to see how the other, um, sixth lives.

Do I think it’s worth investing half the amount of resources to a new race as it would be to build more living world/current event stuff? No.
(Even worse, it would add to the costs of adding new armor sets.)

All the same, it would improve a big part of the role playing/story telling part of the game.

Would personalized stats break the game?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Illconceived Was Na.9781

Illconceived Was Na.9781

Do you mean allowing those with legendaries to choose an arbitrary combination of 3 or 4 stats that still add up the same as the current prefixes?

I’m all in favor of ANet adjusting the system to make that possible

(I think we’re long past the value of having named stats, especially when ascended gear names don’t match, when trinket upgrades don’t match trinket prefixes, which don’t match weapon proper name prefixes, which don’t match armor proper name prefixes.)

However, it would be bad if only legendary owners can do this. Legendaries, in this game, should not offer any advantage over ascended, except for the ability to swap at will.

[Suggestion] WvW supply mastery

in WvW

Posted by: Illconceived Was Na.9781

Illconceived Was Na.9781

Please introduce supply mastery for the advance players that have a very high rank of 2k or more. I run all alone and always want to build trebs and catas to counter other trebs and catas, but due to the limit requirement of 25 max supply and in the worst case scenario 15 max supply, I have to make 8 trips just to build a treb.

With supply mastery you can carry 60 supply so that building a treb only costs 2 trips.
This will also make use of the world ability points that are currently unused.

You’ve made an excellent argument for maintaining the status quo.

Besides that, changing the max would also increase the amount of supply that the zerg could carry and increase the rate of depletion from each depot.

Plus, we already have the Guild Treb, which requires only 100 supply, i.e. four trips from a fully buffed keep.

You do not need a minimun WvW Rank. The GoB Reward Track is selectable right out of the gate.

Yeah, screw the people with the worst ping, they can live with it. As long as most of your player base is under 100ms ping you’ll get no complaints from anyone.

This subject has been raised time after time, and no one wants to even weigh in from an Anet stance. It’s quite simple really, we’re just not important enough. Defeatist as it may seem, that’s the hard fact of it. We’re just in the wrong country.

It’s both not as bad and far worse than the way you’ve phrased it:

  • Those with bad ping aren’t important at all financially — you’ve already paid up.
  • Those who are important, financially, are those who have yet to buy the game.

If you can figure out a way to pay for a new data center, its security & maintenance, and to find a way to make WvW happen with so few players, then sure, ANet will be willing to change their stance.

Getting a legendary weapon

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Illconceived Was Na.9781

Illconceived Was Na.9781

Wait: I have to play WvW to create any legendary weapon? I hope I’m reading that wrongly.

Not exactly.

You need to complete the Gift of Battle reward track for WvW. The easiest and most efficient way to do that is to play WvW. However, there’s a 100% work-around and a partial work-around

The full work around is to do the Big Spender daily whenever it comes up. You can do this in your guild hall, by buying a single Badge of Tribute. You need to complete 80 WvW dailies and Big Spender comes up about 3-4 times a month, so we’re looking at 20-30 months.

You can reduce that time considerably by doing the other WvW dailies that do not require any PvP.

  • No fighting: Master of Monuments (you cap a point; no PvP, no PvE)
  • PvE fighting: Land Claimer (single NPC), Guard Killer (kill 5 NPCs), Caravan Disruptor (kill one Yak)

(I left off Veteran Creature Slayer, because it’s a lot less obvious where to go to find the three eligible beasties, so I don’t think it’s a realistic option for those looking to avoid WvW.)

Doing just those sorts of dailies, you can avoid “playing” WvW and finish the track in about 15-30 weeks.

One final note: you have to have a minimum WvW rank, but you might already have that for other reasons. Even if you don’t, you’ll earn rank points by doing the semi-work-around above.

One more final note: find a friend to do this with. Ideally, someone who knows WvW, but even someone inexperienced who also wants the GoB. It’s both more fun and less …scary.
