I think that his character had birthday and the present (booster and stuff) did not come.
Just hang in there, mine was also late for some characters
80 sylvari ranger (played since pre-launch, first main)
80 norn guardian
80 human thief (loved it, became my main)
80 norn elementalist (leveled this one couple of weeks ago, I so love him, may be my newest main xD)
36 charr necro – I may continue to level him up someday, but may also delete, will see.
to add to all of this, ranger and thief got 100% map completion (may eventually do it on my ele too), all crafting disciplines leveled up to 400, weaponsmith and tailor up to 500.
because new is always better :P
but now, really…I love Tyria and zones as they exists now, but I got 100% world completiton, 99,9% of the events I see are “done that couple of times” and even though I´m sure I didn´t see everything, it´s hard for me to explore further, since most of the landmass I saw and know what to expect there….it´s the thrill of exploration and doing unseen things in a new zone (and bigger than southsun or the Tower, even though I loved both).
I guess it trully depends on the definition of the “living” as it is. I still count the former persons dead, but granted, they are sort of living as something else still…
And as of Glint (or the chicken in Arah) – I think those were not freed (or healed?) of corruption, rather granted free will and made independent and not subjects to Dragons influence. But there may be these “depends on how you define…” things here too
this would be quite nice indeed. The previous nodes are rather meaningless for me (candy corn being a nice touch, but nothing really “I need tons of that even after Halloween”, and I have no use for celestial stats either). I do wonder how will I craft those consumables (and get rid of the bloodstone dust) after my stack of spores runs out
That´s shame then if you remeber it this way, then it´s probably there since launch.
As for the symbols are new Krytan alphabeth, you can wiki it and translate (or rather transcribe it). For example, if you take the symbols on DR, it simply reads Divinity´s Reach (that you can see by just looking on it – number of symbols match for each word and the symbols where “i” should be are the same. If you mean icons, the big one on DR is symply a symbol of humanity/kryta/DR…the smaller ones probably just symbols of other settlements/garrisons in Queensdale
OK, maybe not first kill, then corrupt, but doesn´t an object kinda die in the process of the corruption? You know, if one turns Branded, or is coated in ice as Icebrood, don´t we coun´t him as dead as opposed to “corrupted living”? As I see it, corruption is killing the subject and then using its body to “live” in the different form (if we can call it living) as a corrupted one. Or am I completely wrong?
there indeed was one map, but on the other hand…but as I said…was it this map and were there Branded on it? I don´t remember but it don´t make sense to me for them to be there in the past, when Vigil was focused on Zhaitan (and there are no Branded near DR ever since)
I´d say you become crystal, just like Icebrood becomes made of ice (or rather coats dead body in ice. All in all it seems that Dragons basically first kill, then corrupt? (as in Risen are dead and “reanimated” by Zhaitan magic). No proof or source here, just opinion
There is also this thread in Nightmare Within subforum. This guy noticed that one of the NPCs is agent of Whispers and has bonus dialogue when PC is in the order. It seems that Scarlet is actually interested in the Mists, and he also talks about some isles. Battle Isles, maybe? Anyway, here is the link to that post, ight be very well relevant to this whole topic:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/livingworld/nightmare/Agent-Frovik-about-Scarlet/first#post3383189
those printers are there since launch,I think. Only if it´s printing something interesting
But I can confirm that those Vigil maps are new. I remember some of them being there, but deffinetely no Branded and those maps were definitely not of Queensdale
I´m no expert in GW lore, but in GW1, there were these Battle Isles, where there were portal(s) into the Mists to fight to gain Balthazars favor (aka GW1 PvP).
But as far as I know, those were flooded when Orr rose (thats why there were portals opened in LA), so either the Isles rose again, or she simply means another Isles.
Any lore expert here to shed some light on this?
it may be some devices Scarlet is planning to use against dragons in some manner? Just remember how at the end of F&F there was this Fire shaman (or was it dredge, don´t remember) that seemed not concerned about Dragons at all? Something along the lines “We will be here long after Dragons are gone”. Maybe a part of Scarlet´s plan about that? And she kitten es of Kralkatorrik/Tequatl/random dragon that eats her in revenge and we will get Dragon centered content? One could hope, right?
For one, you can´t use mindless horde in Tequatl fight…this mindless horde will either die or fail.
As for Nightmare Tower, I was doing it with couple of guildies (not even a full party) and we had a blast. Granted, there are other players around but I´d not consider it “zerg content” per se…there are large groups, but they do break up to be not so big.
it´s massively multiplayer game, so do expect to have other players around…I consider myself more of a solo player (even though I do enjoy doing content with frieds more, don´t get me wrong!) and have no problem whatsoever
you know there could be ascended armor in Wintersday release too?
Also, wintersday will probably be around for a month (like all holidays) and we will get one more release before end of the year…could just be in those, I don´t see a reason why to get upset over this
as much as I wanted Abaddon fractal, I thin it´d be best to let it go…if they´d do it, it´d be like saying that anything we as a players do or decide in game, it has no meaning, because the devs will do as they please…the voting would not have any weight, it would feel like it was for nothig…just imagine that Ellen would ask Evon to be her co-councillor. that would be just the same thing
I got the impression that skill-lag is more of a technical thing, is there much to be discussed? Commander tag, however, could give some constructive feedback, I think
I´d say that since we voted already, it seems counterproductive to have second vote as most people would vote for the same thing…
Is there anything you can tell us that would help us relate to your motives for this character? Something that will let us set better expectations and maybe give better feedback?
I started to reply to each question in your post but ran out of time today. SPOILER: I was in meetings.
Questions like these may be more suited for an interview since the answers can be rather long when discussing the creative process, project constraints, etc. I would like to share some insights on Scarlet and other Living World characters but I’m not sure the forums are the best place. Let me think on that for a bit.
Maybe a livestream?
Hey Chris, I think that the things you posted are true and could be developed further. I myself had no problem with existing CDI thread, but thing like summary every now and then and more focused topics would do it a lot easier indeed.
I think however, that if it´d be possible, this whole initiative would deserve a whole forum cathegory to live on its own, rather than to be discussed in several different cathegories. This would also allow for you to have different, more specific threads on the same topic and would maybe save us from the 50ish page one thread…I think it would be more easy to read and follow.
This way, you could bring more people to it, as more people would notice it and if you plan to carry with this thing in near future (as I assume you do), it would make things more organized. (in current situation, I´d sticky each thread concerning CDI and in time, there would be a whole firs page of the forum category filled with stickied CDI threads).
There are some pretty exciting cinematics coming in the future…I hope you guys will receive them as well as the Fractals piece.
More cinematics like this one? Yes please! Especially if those will be in-game Work well done with this one, looking forward for the future
I just wanted to hop in and say to ANet that I´m really enjoying the patch. This one gives me hope. Mechanically and atmospherically speaking, it´s just great. I love that even though there are zergs, they can be sepparated from one another. First time after a long time, there is this happines of seeing another players (although I rage for those that are just running by and don´t help at all, even if they could) other that “hey, there´s zerg! lets farm!”.
I also enjoy the moments when I´m alone and there is this susspesion and I have to run/sneak past some mobs, or just wait for other players to help, this is great.
And the bar thing, showing progress in real time and for first time ever (if not counting elections – those could use that type of bar too) we can see OUR progress and how it matters (you won´t fight? tower will stay as long as we don´t try harder). Ofc, some people will want to and will do whatever it takes so that it can stay the longest, but that´s just farmers mentality, I´m getting used to it.
Special mention goes to the ambient dialogue at the camp, really great to set up the atmosphere (the female quaggan makes me sad anytime I´m there).
Nightmare chambers – could use at least a little different interiors (not all the same) but I enjoy the random encounters. When I first fought Tybalt, I was really torn up since I loved him. Only problem with this is that the rae encounters (witn Order mentor, racial mentor and Trehearne) are too rare, only fought Tybalt so far and I´ve done looooots of those chambers. I just want to experience all the tidbits of it and it´s too hard and stereotypical to always have those aetherblades/toxic enemies to fight me. The text/VO references to characters personal story is also nice (even though the VO didn´t play for me, I only saw it in chat), good to see you ar tieing some of that things and give them more meaning
The final instance was amazing, not too hard but not too easy. I tried to solo it the other day and it was pretty chalenging, but not impossible and that´s always nice
The cut scene was well done, great art, and finally a story sumary for those who weren´t following LS for the whole time. Maybe the machine for the replay could be available in the cities too (on the Durmand Priory sites, maybe? ) and could be expanded upon for every bit of story to keep us up to date, that would be nice
Only bad thing I see is that the story and Scarlets´s character didn´t progressed at all again and we are in fact at square one once again. But as I saw somewhere, you are aware of that and there should be more info and story in upcoming release? Hope that is right, because the story didn´t move for almost a year now, so that´s surely not good. I´m also interested what´s up with the sylvari krait. Is the toxic plant some sort of Pale Tree after all, altered with some toxic chemistry?
But really, if you keep improving the releases in this way, there is hope for LS after all (I actually started to hate Scarlet in other way than “I don´t like her, let´s kill her”, so that´s nice change too. But she still needs some work…and needs to be killed ).
Anyway, you guys keep up the good work, looking forward to conclusion to the years worth building-up
(edited by Illi.3647)
I´d also like to add a thing about events, it´s very likely it was mentioned but: please, disable or edit existing events where they don´t make sense where the LS is. It´s really funny. There is this big tower swarming with krait and NC, but there is this guy that goes finding lost heirlooms. Or centaurs are just going their buisness, totally ignoring it.
Or, when there is Scarlet invasion, there is Scarlet events and other, completely illogical events happening at the same place. And worst thing with Scarlet invasions- other mobs don´t attack Scarlet minions and Scarlet minions don´t attack normal mobs. It makes world not living, but static. Maybe when Scarlet is happening, disable other events to spawn at least or something? It makes no sense
I’m more convinced turning to a traditional content release concept rather doing this episodic thing would be better for GW2. The instances with Roxx and Braham, Scarlet’s playhouse etc could have been triggered after one finishes their living story as the next chapters so people can do them at their own pace and experience a personalized story. Doing it that way would allow for things like recognition from NPC’s or slight alterations based on our characters past choices.
Meanwhile the Molten Facility or Aetherblade retreat would have been better as new permanent dungeons, with explorable paths as well as their own rewards and armor.
In my opinion a game just shouldn’t try be a TV show.
I’m not sure the two need to be mutually exclusive. What if every X amount of time that seemed reasonable, the story simply kept being expanded in the way you’re discussing rather than be released in one big chunk?
But if you’re not up to that point in the story arc, you can play it when ever you get there.
This is basicaly what the problem is and what many people has already said – we need something to replay story so far, if we´ve missed it. The world may be in the state of the current story, but maybe dealing the LS simirally to the PS – have a tab that tracks your progress where you can check in what you did and give new players option to experience story from the start.
Since I´m playing since BWEs, there is hard to realise that there are actually new players comming in who didn´t experience the LS so far not due to them not playing, but due to them not owning the game. They come hee and have no idea who´s this Scarlet and what´s up with this Tower, since they just logged in for the first time.
What about to do it like a PS in the way you could continue where you last ended with a story (I didn´t play Rox´s instance – there would be golden star in Rytlocks office, UI interface would tell me about going there too (something like experience the pas, go to Rytlock) and I could go through the story instances as I´d in the case of PS until I reach Tower of Nightmares). It could be this, or something else, but you need to allow new players (or players that simply don´t have enough time) to experience the story.
What rewards would you like to see from rewards? Would they be different when you’re leveling up than when you’re level 80? What would motivate you to want to go around the world playing as many different events as possible, rather than the same 4-5 over and over again?
Some of the fun challenges we are currently solving, but it’s great to hear peoples thoughts on this subject as well.
I thin that there is no need to adding new rewards, just making the existing ones (karma) more viable. Now, karma has almost no use. Sure, you can buy obsidian shard and exotic gear. But: exotic gear can be easily crafted, bought on TP or bought with Badges of Honor in WvW. Obsidian shards can be also obtained via Fractals and are useful only to people going after legendaries or crafting ascended. We need viable rewards for karma.
Example: Ascended gear is gained only via crafting or luck (super-rare drops). What about vendor that is selling ascended for great amounts of karma. Or food and other consumables for 80s, crafting materials (you never get right amount for leveling up crafting anyway), or new and exclusive armor/weapon/backpack/whatever skins.
Another thing is that after we don´t get so many karma from jugs for dailies/monthlies, karma is harder to come by, but still useless while we have nothing to buy for it. And after hearing you can tweak rewards for lvl 1-79 and lvl 80, maybe you can raise event karma gain for lvl 80s? So if said ascended for karma would cos, lets say 100k or some other insane ammount, it would not be years-worth grind for new players.
So you’d like the game to react to you on a more personal level, such that people, places, etc. respond differently depending on your accomplishments, decisions, and so on?
Yes, yes we would like that. I know it´s hard to do, but it was told that we could have impact on the world. Only impact was the elections (and we hadn´t heard of Ellen since). I know you can´t do two different forms of release for two different outcomes of player reactions, but maybe try to add at least the little things. There should be different potential outcomes of some stories and we should see them when it happens, not in 4 months (or more).
An example that comes to mind: When Molten Facility dungeon came out, the “Molten facility strenght” bar would move automatically in time and didn´t mean anything. Instead, it could in fact count how many players have “destroyed” that facility. At the end, if we wouldn´t made it to a certain treshold, we would beat the Molten Aliance and the story could continue considering them “gone” like it did (even though, as we see now, they are not – see Scarlet invasions), but there could be events with Molten forces would try to attack from some “remaining” weapon facilities and stad their ground (ofc, for logical reasons we would not go in, just defeat them outside)
On the other hand, if we would meet that treshold, there could be events where some Molten forces would try to reestablished the destroyed facilities or something like that (so there would be equality of content).
And best thing would be if each server could have different outcome (for example on Riverside they would not meet the treshold, but on Piken they would) – that way the resources would not be wasted.
Regarding GW1 lore in the game, I think it’d be really compelling to have in-game books or some other delivery device to allow players to immerse themselves in Tyria’s history.
THIS! Pretty please. I said it in my triple-post, we need lore. This was implemented in betas and we are lacking this kind of info in game really. Most of the lore is hidden in NPC conversations that are not exactly in face. I like that some of it would be there, but some of it should be more prominent and be clear that it contains lore.
If you talk with NPCs, 75% of the answers are just generic “I ´m this and have problem with that, goodbye”. I like to talk with NPCs and stuff, but there is too little chance of finding something useful so I found myself not talking to them at all (and that´s a shame). Anyway, we need something like books or any other means of getting lore. Really, when I found out months ago that this was in game (there were collectible books tab in the bank too) and I seen the footage, it made me cry. If anything, we need better lore implementation. I for one haven´t played GW1 and if I hadn´t make a research on lore beforehand, I really wouldn´t know some basic stuff (it´s hard to make an example, but there are some things that I realized was never explained. Only example that comes to mind is that the basic krait lore is in the game only now)
there is one more thing that crossed my mind. In the beginning of the game, you wanted to randomly add events, minidungeons and jumping puzzles into the game (you also did, I think last year in November?). You stoped doing that because “player base didn´t appreciated it”. But, as was said many times, we couldn´t appreciate it, since (and this is what I loved) we had no idea if the events are new, or were there all the time. I really loved that feeling of finding event/minidungeon or something, that I never seen before and I was wondering if it is new or not. that was also something that had given me the feeling of living world.
Could you (if you had resources for doing this) do this once in a while? And maybe say in the patch notes just “minidungeon added into this general area” (name of zone, or maybe just region), or DEs added se we know it is there somewhere, but had to discover it? You see, with living world, there are changes only to one zone at the time. I really want to return to some zones but at the moment, I have a feeling that I´ve seen everything in that zones. Please, prove me wrong
- Pacing of the story is way too slow. The story arc is going for almost a year now and we know next to nothing as of why is this happening, other than „Scarlet did it!“. We keep hearing that all thing are connected, but we are 10 months in and we still don´t see how (again, other then „Scarlet did it.“). We need to know more, otherwise it will trully be known only as Random Story. It´s good you realize the mistakes, so just learn from them and we will be fine.
- Special mention – SAB. Many people love it (I don´t, but it´s ok). All I ask is – don´t make it canon, don´t make it part of actual lore and world. Let it be there for people enjoy but let it stay how it came to be – a joke. A fun content that is there just for fun. A game within a game that we can play, but don´t tie it into the Tyria. This way, all who like it can play it and all who don´t (or all who care about lore) are good without it. I for one don´t like it not because of jumping (Jumping puzzles being favourite part of the game). It breaks my immersion. Nuff said.
And now, regarding some other point that were discussed:
- Most of the DEs (especially the escort ones) are just impossible to fail. NPC you were escorting dies? DE don´t fail, you just have to revive NPC and continue. You can even find long dead NPC, revive him and you are good to continue. It takes away the need to actually protect the NPC, it takes away chalenge, immersion, consequences, you name it. Des should fail if you don´t try hard enough. And that goes not only for escort events, there needs to be fail condition in some of them too. And please, no time conditions. It makes it feel that it is on a timer just because you can´t come up with anything better. But you can! Take Temple of Grenth. It has a condition and it can be hard because of it, you can fail it easily. More of this!
- Now, you aked us to say our Bstt/Worst release and why.
Best one – Zephyrite Sanctum. Gorgeous zone, much things to do (zone being big Jumping puzzle – only problem was tieing all to achievements, but I discussed already ? ), tieing it to already established lore…perfect.
Worst one – Tequatl Rising. This was a though one. I´d say SAB, but even though I don´t like it, it´s a good content (but me wanting it just as a joke and not a part of the lore still stands). I say Tequatl Rising just because of the actual content in it. I love the change and you deffinetely rework other bosses as well (but maybe let the lower level ones alone, for the sake of learning curve for new players). I didn´t like it because there was this change and thats it. OK, there was a scavenger hunt, but I already told you what I think of THAT kind of scavenger hunt.
So there you go, this was mine Great Wall (of Text) with my insight and opinions. In conclusion, I just want to say that I love the game and I hope it will go in the right direction. Take care Anet and good luck with doing the game better. Have a good one!
(edited by Illi.3647)
- Lore, lore and lore! We need lore in-game! Web site stories are good, lore interviews are great. BUT…those are ours one nad only lore sources. Minimum of it goes to game. I´ve seen it getting better with two last releases (Mad King and Bloody Prince talking in Labyrinth, existing Krait lore in after talking with NPCs). But I can´t stress this enough. We need it in actual game.
Examples: Trek of Zephyrites – you could give us parts of those memoires into the Labyrinthine cliffs as books/letters. You could put them in scattered like the crystals we were collecting, or just put them into Zephyr sanctum for us to read.
Blood and Madness – Scavanger hunt similar to what we had last year – find ghosts that would tell you history of Bloody Prince (maybe Bloody Memories as reward? )
And that brings me to
- Scavenger Hunts. Some love them, some hates them. I´m in the first bunch. But, with the last scavenger hunts, I see two problems. First – they are there just so they are there and we have something to do. If we find a krait obelisk, we interact and continue. Give us lore with them, so finding them makes sense for PC and for players alike (see? Lore. It´s important! ). There should be another incentive then achievement points. (this also goes for Tequatl rising hunt…find ten scales/teeth/crystals. Why? Because!)
Also regarding this. Please, at least give us some hints. Stop with „there are some items in the zone (or worse, in the world) you have to find“. Last year´s Halloween is the way to go – every ghost give us another clue where should we go. This years scavenger hunt is good to some extend, most of the obelisks are where krait towers are in the world, that´s good. But other obelisks? Just roam the world and be lucky, or go to dulfy and read a guide (especialy with those not even close to any „original“ krait locations). Thats not fun. I know that you want us in the world, finding stuff but I need at least a clue, however cryptic, so I may have a chance of finding it without having to read a guide or just be lucky.
- I´ll come back to the Lore bit again. You should expand on already established lore (from GW2 and GW1), not just comming with new factions/aliances/stuff. Zephirites and their ties to Glint was a step in right direction. I know you said that you are looking at all the lore already established, I just had to say it is important (and cannot be stressed enough too)
- We need new zones. You tried it with the Southsun, but there were two mistakes – low risk/reward opportunities. You designed karka to be a chalange, but reward for this chalenge are none. Also, they are difficult mainly because of them having two health-pools. More HP is not a fun chalenge.
Second mistake, Southsun is isolated from the world. You could get there by a ship (now by a gate), not with a portal from another zone. Most people that wasn´t around the first event, or second, have no idea how to get there. If you make new zones, make them so they will be connected to existing ones please.
And why we need new zones? Of course, getting updates to the old ones, Kessex changing for example is great, I love it. But I seen every zone dozen times, I know most of the events…it´s just „I´ve seen that, no point of doing it again“ all over the place. If we get something new, the „wow“ element is back in the game. I know that it would divide community more, but we need this (as we need the old zones chagning too, don´t get me wrong. We need both, to some extend ? )
- I don´t mind story not evolving around Dragons for a change, but we need to feel they are there (and I´m so glad to hear you have plans with them!). It´s really OK to have other story arcs, but you have to acknowlege they are there and they are threat. Otherwise, they are just a bad joke.
Talking of vilains – Scarlet. I want to like her, I really do. Personally, I don´t have so much problem with how „vilain-sue“ she is (even though she does know maybe too much). The whole problem is the projection of her character into the game.
First – fact in game were very scetchy. For example, we learned (in game) that sche graduated all ASURAN colleges and she also studiet under hylek, norn, charr and like. Only in short story and interview we find out that she took only basic courses of the colleges, studiet briefly under one norn, one charr and one hylek (again, improtant lore out of game).
Second – her character. You envisioned her really good. Sylvari with love for technologies, great intelect, goes crazy. How it is portrayed in game so far? She looks like spoiled brat with childish catch phrases and childish manners. This is not an interesting portreyal of „personal nemesis“ so many were hoping for. And I´m not mentioning that we don´t know any of her motives. And that brings us to:
(even more comming in the next post)
(edited by Illi.3647)
OK, so, here are my two cents. I didn´t read the whole thread, so maybe I will repeat something that was said. I´ve read some of the dev responses, so I´ll try to adress some things they pointed out. This will also probably be a huge wall of text, so please excuse me for it. Without further delay, here we go:
- First of all, to add to what has been said. Bi-weekly schedule is good, there is not that much content. The major tasks and instance is doable within a few hours of gameplay. Only problem is, you make it seem that people have to do the meta-achievemnt and all other achievements to complete the content (more about achievements and LS in the next point). If it´d be monthly, there would have to be more of the content anyway, so I don´t see a point in doing it. As long as you will go for quality, I´m good. You have much to work in this field, but you have also done so much to bring the quality up. All I can say for this subject is „keep up the good work and make it even better“ ?.
- Biggest problem of LS (gameplay-wise) is that it is too much achievement focused, all tasks, all things that have to be done are in the achievements and therefore, each release is basically “Story instance → Achievements grind →; Done”. In Tower of Nightmares, you at least done it so the release UI directs players better. But it is not enough. As I see it, you need to introduce something like Renown Hearts (or whatever is it called now. Tasks? you know what I mean), or some other form of traditional quests. Hearts will be probably best option, as they already exist in game.
How I picture it (I will use Tower of Nightmares as an example): After completing the instance, you have to collect the samples. It is said to you by Marjory, she can repeat it to you when you speak to her, but to track how many you brought, you have to open achievements tab. As oposed to this, Marjory could be also a Renown Heart NPC (with a Heart over her head, perhaps with a small golden star to indicate it is a LS content). If a player is close to her, there will be also standard Heart UI that tells him what to do and he also sees a progress bar. (Since the player can collect the samples in multiple zones and such, it would be only close to her). This way, player will be sure as to what to do and you would untie the core story content out of the achievements.
Now don´t get me wrong, the achievements should be there (even the spore sample collector could be there as achievement too) but you need to have the core “story” things (as collecting the samples) to be in the world, not just in achievement tab. Achievements should be just supplementary content, something you do if you want after you´ve done the main task tied to the story (thats why I think it was a mistake to do them obligatory in the Blood and Madness. Some people just don´t have time to do the meta. If they don´t, they will miss out story content here. Please, don´t do it again). Some players are not used to check achievements for what to actually do. Try to make it so achievements are not Alpha and Omega of LS releases.
- It needs to be Living Story, not just Living World. For now, there is very little of actual story. First of all, all story instances schould be repeatable as it was with F&F (or as you done it with this release). If it is possible, there could be at least two story instances, the second one with conclusion. Something along the Blood and Madmess patch (just don´t make it as "First instance – a little of lore and a fight; Second Instance – fight, both done in a moment and at one place). As I envision it. You have Tower of Nightmares story instance as it is. After it, you have to collect the spores. And after, you have to know it was for something. Now, you give Marjory spores and thats it, nothing is said, nothing happens. It don´t have to be story instance per se, but at least give her dialogue that now she could come up with and antidote or something like that.
(more to come in next post)
(edited by Illi.3647)
There is a bad sylvari wanting to destroy all lore….let´s go kill her! (dibs on Slayer of Lore Slayer title!).
on another note…as someone said that Nightmare Court was established to better fight dangers of sylvari, kraits included, it hit me. During the Sylvari week, there was this short story about the Secondborn that at the end founded the Nightmare Court. One of the breaking points for him to establish it was unwillingness of “normal” sylvari to kill krait hatchlings, because of “they are just children, they are not evil yet and therefore have a right to live, because they can chage” attitude. This secondborn refused this and other Tablet teachings and has found NC. Isn´t this a reason why the Krait-Nightmare Court alliance don´t make sense from the NC standpoint too?
1. Lore, lore, lore! Better implementation, lore being in-game, not in interviews and on website. (Book feature, VO lore other than “Centaurs are attacking!” etc.)
2. Dynamic Events – more DE that have real impact on the world. When we fail, it has consequence. There are some, bur some…not that much. And also…let them fail! For example, most escort DEs have dead NPCs that are waiting forever to be resed. If NPC dies, I call that a fail. If most of the events basically cannot fail, they can´t have real consequence either. Also, less “defeat in the timeframe” fail conditions, more like at temple of Grenth or Balthazar.
3. Interactable world – houses you can go in, chairs you can sit in, objects to interact with (remember the comic you had in the first blog-posts about GW2? “By the gods, he´s picked up a mug!” – something along those lines ). Just things that make the world feel more alive.
Also…you guys are great, keep up the good work!

Hey, are you on the EU, or NA side? Anyway, I´m an EU player and´d love to join you in the killing spree if possible
The picture is named nexthero
every picture is called “NextHero”, with some letters there too, those letters being name of the release
I´m not sure if this is going to happen, but I sure dream of the most frustrating hours doing improved and longer Clocktower…the original was pain in the kitten , but I think most of the people who done it maybe want it to be at least a little different. Would be awesome!
I don´t really enjoy SAB that much as 99,9% of population, but since they introduced ascended crafting with it…I have something to do. And it´s only in Rata Sum, so if one doesn´t enjoy it, one shouldn´t enter it
We do have clockowrks everywhere now…someone in ANet do love cogs and such :P
What Mikuchan said – they just intorudec her! Ellen Kiel was brought up out of the blue just like Canach was (and in the same release as well), or like Scarlet is right now. We actually had some hints there is some sort of “personal nemesis” (even though I doubt Scarlet classifies as that), we even know she is going to be named Scarlet. But she has issues. She might be an interesting character, as the short story implies, but she is not, she is completely different person in game. Again, I´m sad to say this, but ANet couldn´t implement the lore and characters in the game properly. I hope it´ll get better. If she will continue to be just a spoiled brat with Tyria as her toy, I just hope we will kill her ASAP and get a proper villain or threat. Maybe one of those Dragons we heard so much about?
also, as far as I understand it, necromancer are not rising dead from the grave and use zombies/skeletons as minions, they rather utilize parts of dead bodies and flesh and making magical golems out of them.
There are some powerful necros that could raise a dead man as he was, but usualy they don´t do it. Then, you have liches as Palawa Joko (which is in Elona and not in the game yet), who is a very powerful necromancer and has an army of undead (in classical sense), but that´s a whole new story. I´m not a lore expert as I didn´t play first game and some of the lore is still eluding me and I bet Konig´d be able to go to detail with this (or say I´m wrong), but here are my two cents…
There was an error somewhere on the road. Scarlet in game is not the Scarlet in the short story. I actually liked the story, but really…seeing “Eternal Alchemy” will turn you into the spoiled brat? Because thats the only explanation as of why is she acting like one.
But I liked the reason as why she was able to study all three colleges. OK, how she actually got into the first one is pretty stretched and “Scarlet knows all the best”, but as they allowed her to the others only to see what she is capable of, thats where I thought “that´s so asuran!”.
But yeah, I hope we will kill her soon enough and be done with this
Somewhere a dev said, that if you are able to log in just in one specific time a day, you shoud be able to see invasion in all maps…hour a day may not be ideal, but at least you can progress in story, since there is one invasion every hour. just make it happen that you log in every whole hour and you should be good
I suspect (and hope!) hat they will do it like first time…there was flame and frost running, but in the same time, you could run SAB. So there is hoping SAB is “just” a bonus and they will continue with living story in some fashion. It wouldn´t make sense really…“there is a lunatic on loose in the world, let´s play in interactive virtual environment!”
you got a point there, should heave think of that nevermind that point then
I like her, althoug she is little too childish. She is clearly nuts, but even the hairstyle calls “spoiled brat” to me, maybe they overshooted there. She could use some sort of motivation besides pure chaos, but as far as we can see, that´s it – chaos.
And the Asuran colleges? that´s just insane and unimaginable to me. Like you already said, I can´t imagine asuras to let salad study on one of their colleges. But all three and being so excelent? Oh, and she studied with all other races in the free time! Ridiculous, really.
I´d give her (as a character) 5/10, let´s see what we will get in next releases. But if I have to count in hers back story…2/10
oh, and hey should explain why she has last name too! Sylvari normally have just one name, unless they´d want to adopt one or something
Just so you know, during F&F, there were Vigil Tacticians collecting audio logs and finding those Molten Facilities and you helped Whispers agent to gather intel on Molten Aliance. Not much, but yeah, they were there. As for the dragons…man, I hope that as soon as we deal with Scarlet (and I hope it will be sooner rather than later…the plot is spreading over almost a year now with little to no conclusion) we will get some dragons or at least something that ties into existing lore rather than coming up with new one each update.
Also…could we fight something that is not steampunk or robots? I mean…Please?
Teoreticaly it is possible though. With some plants, you can take a living branch or something, put it in the watter and it will make roots so you can plant it after. The sword is made of bark, but it is possible something like that will happen. On the other side, the bark was severly altered by magic to serve as a greatsword so this may dissmiss the theory, even though it is interesting one. Maybe there will not be another Pale Tree per se, but something similar, why not? I think it´s not impossible.
And I always got a feeling that Zhaitan was not an undead dragon, rather than the dragon of undead, there could be a difference. I´m more inclined to believe that there will be another Dragon forming to take his place rather than “oh, Zhaitan isn´t dead, he just faked it! What a plot twist!”
When fighting the Sovereign Eye of Zhaitan the Eye says "I see in your heart that you have lost someone to Zhaitan. Someone named…(Sieran, Tybalt, Forgal). S/he is waiting for you now, beneath the dragon’s wings… ". This seems to point to a future confrontation with Zhaitan in which you will also run into these 3 again. Closure is a good thing.
Problem is, that the battle with the Sovereign Eye of Zhaitan takes place before you are going to kill Zhaitan. In fact, I the next step after his story step is the Victory or Death (=Go kill Zhaitan). So this is barelly a proof. It may be that ANet didn´t make Zhaitan fight good, but I don´t think that by ressurecting him, they´d do much good. Let him stay dead, don´t screw up future ED fights and we are good.
Plus, Arah token are saying something along this lines: “A pieco of Zhaitan himself, now forever dead”
… so how does the assumption that men must naturally dominate women NOT equal thinking women are inferior? How is insulting men by likening them to or calling them women NOT a sign of abject sexist contempt?
You know, you had a point, but as I said, as long as one does not think women are inferior and men are to rule the world, it´s just a figure of speech, nothing more (for example, none english figure of speech comes to mind, but here, if you had a bad day, you can say you had a “dog´s day”. Does that mean I hate dogs and they should have bad days all their lives? Hell no! I love dogs and they have often better days than I have. You just say that because there is this phrase existing).
It has it´s roots in the past, when women were considered less than men. It´s just about cultures and gender roles. When someone say that a man is the head of the family, is that sexist too? If there was a matriarchy and men would act superior in the relationship, other would go like “she is a man in that relationship, lol, he basicaly rules her, that´s insane!”
You are right that it´s based on assumptions and gender roles, but at the end of the day, it´s just a figure of the speech. You can say that like any other and no being sexist. It´s the ones approach that does matter.
Anyway, as I said, you got a point, but it´s the matter of the angle you are looking at it. If this offended you, I´m sorry
(and let be done with this, this topic is about running awa… I mean, Logan and Jennah :P)
(edited by Illi.3647)
If anyone didn´t played that story step, read Destiny´s Edge or played story dungeons, there could be spoilers:
Yes, they were arguing over Snakitten dead. Basically, Zojja blaimed Eir to not leading them properly (and Eir blaiming herself for exact same thing), Rytlock blamed Logan for running away and Caithe blaimed them for blaiming each other while they should fight Dragons.
But, with your help Logan saved Rytlock and they are (kinda) good now, Eir was saved by you when she was looking for heroic death in the HotW, and Zojja and Eir had their conversation to set things straight. And since they all were ready to battle Dragons together, Caithe was happy, thus had no reason to want to fall into Nightmare (since in that story step, the possible future/alternate herself is talking mainly about how others can´t join up and Faoline is telling something along the lines “So join me!”, and she does…but now she don´t have a reason to join)
