Wasn´t that the Light in the Darkness mision? The one with the vision of Orr you are going to? All of those conversations between Destiny´s Edge were “alternative versions”, or better yet, possible futures of what will happen if you don´t do something about Dragons and if you don´t make them work together. Which doesn´t happened, Destiny´s Edge are (relatively) good and Caithe is OK
And if that sylvari in Opening Ceremony was Scarlet, she didn´t look like Caithe

Anyway, very, very, VERY interesting find! It sure has to have some significance (they wouldn´t do it just for fun, right?)

I don’t understand why the clock thing is suddenly being pointed out. The Aetherblades are steampunk (which has lots of clock work stuff) and the Watchwork knights are clock/mechanical themed, the steam creatures are also mechanical themed along with the new crafting material. More than likely, there is a big engineering theme to the Aetherblades. The Flame Legion emphasise flame weapons etc, the Aetherblades emphasise mechanical devices and engineer-like themes.

It´d be because in the Mad King Clock Tower, just before you started your race up there, one member of the Lunatic Court went like “Tick-tock, mouse run up the clock” (or something like that?). It´s just the tick tock part and very similar rythm (and that we heard it EVERY time before the Clock Tower…and how many times did we try? Many!). I´m almost sure it´s just coincidence and it has more connections to the Watchnights, or just to the passing of time than Mad King Thorn… It was just first thing that pops up in my head when I hear (or read) “tick tock”, that´s all

What's up with Logan and Jennah now?

I’m not a native speaker so I don’t know every English expression. Regardless, what it boils down to is that male = good/superior, female = bad/inferior, and that is NOT “just an expression” but an attitude that permeates our society, and the gaming industry, in a pretty big way.

Back here (Slovakia) we have a very similar expresion, along the lines that “she is the man in the relationship”. Thing is, in our (and basically most of the other cultures) the man is considered the “head” of the family (and the woman is the neck, I know, but that´s not what I´m saying). I know that today the lines here are getting blured (men taking maternity leave and such), but it is still rooted in our culture and expected to man be “the one who decides”. If the woman is the more prominent, the things like this are bound to be told… Important is to understand, that it could be normal, as long as it is healthy to the relationship. But when the man (for example, Logan, to stay on topic here :P) is just a loyal puppy that has (or don´t want to has) no real word in relationship, I´m sorry, but he is a woman in that relationship. In a nutshell, as long as someone is using it only as a figure of speech and is not thinking that women are inferior and to be ruled by men, it´s OK
On the other hand, it´s more complicated than that with Logan, since his “girlfriend” actually IS his queen, so she basically has to rule him

The question is, at least for me, really simple. I´ll answer with another question. How would people in real life react if someone went and teared down a church and build a rollercoaster in its place. Or if someone decided that Vatican or Mekka are great places for theme parks, or sport stadiums or whatever… Some, not so religius people would go “meh”, but I can imagine most (or considerable ammount at least) of the people would be outraged. Even if the´d rebuilt it somewhere else, there is a fair chance there would be angry mob with torches and stuff

I´m not sure, but it should be around when the Politics release gets out. On release page of Politics, there were screens of Labyrintihine Cliffs and such, there is new Zephyrite-themed minigame and such…So if I have to guess, you have 2 more weeks to do that (Similar to how Dragon Bash and Sky Pirates overlapped). But take this with a grain of salt, there is no official statment on this (I think?)

Politics? sooooo exciting.

Well, it is true that you have to know what is going on, but that´s normal, I´d say…It´s certainly easier if you are following all the news and stuff, if not, you have to pay that more attention to what´s in the game. The secret is to go easy on it and give it a time, especially in this release (Bazaar) which has some new mechanics and stuff (such as Aspects).
And the ticking timer you are speaking off, if´d have to guess, was just an event to deliver supplies from bottom to top. It pop up from time to time, nothing so hard. But from my experience, it is better to first know what is going on with the Aspects and what way you have to go. Personally, I don´t find the content confusing at all, you just have to read the mail, talk to NPCs and pay attention and you should get general idea of what´s going on

Illi.3647

As I said, it could be as you say, but I assume not. I, for one, am looking at it content and story wise (wans´t going for saying vote for Evon/Kiel). It is true that they are discounting the keys, but lorewise, you are electing head of the gem store, so it makes sense. With Kiel, WP are the most logical thing to discount, even though it´s not that much lore-friendly (the WP are asuran, so we may assume those silvers are going to the asura pockets).
Anyway, if the´d disguised this kind of election when one side is going for more monetization and at the same time, the´d give that side the more interesting fractal (at least at first glance), that wouldn´t be that fair, wouldn´t it? I just don´t think it has this sort of IRL background and as I wrote at the begining of my post (sory of that wall of text it came to be, I´m unable to make small posts, I can´t stop to type), it could go another way and saying that vote for Kiel is a vote for grind (as the popular “vote for Evon is vote for RNG” goes). We shouldn´t be stretching this kind of things and speculating that much into it…sure it´s fun speculating, but too much of good things hurts too

Politics? sooooo exciting.

Illi.3647

I agree with politics not to be that much impressive. But it´s just probably something they want to do to put someone on the Council, to get players the feeling they can change the world by their actions. At least I hope it is so and we will have more interesting releases just around the corner.

Choice analysis and speculation.

in Cutthroat Politics

Posted by: Illi.3647

Illi.3647

you know, I don´t buy that…
1 – a fair amount of people is looking at Fractal, not at the discounts. As you are looking at it from discount point of view, from fractal point of view it could be decision between completely new stories with asura everywhere on one side, or expanding on established lore and making connections between GW1 and GW2
2 – from discount point of view, you can also look at it as “oh, they want lowered WP cost because they are just hopping between Dragons and they aparently love grind. so let´s give them more of that!”

Also, the Living story concept is for sure tied to the Gem store. With each chapter, there are new thing in there, often (or mostly?) limited as the story content itself (even though we have more permanent stuff on the way). So you log in because of the story, see cool stuff on gem store that is here for 2-4 weeks, so if you want it, you have to buy it now, or it will not be here in the future.
I´m not saying that your gem store vs game content theory could´n be true, but it´s far too streched and you could just see what you are afraid of seeing. There are always two sides of the coin, and I don´t believe that this catastrophic scenario of yours is going to happen. Most people think that with voting Evon we could get more interesting stories since he is more interesting than Kiel.
Don´t get me wrong, I like Kiel (even though her character could use some work), but Evon is indeed more fit for the Council. There are already traders and people with monopol on something (namely the asura that owns the Asura gates in LA. If you talk with him/her (not sure), he states that he/she made quite some money thanks to that. And LA is not coming down because he/she is on the Council).
Also, both of the campaign videos are full of lies as politics are, let´s be frank Consortium, after all, is founded as concurrency to the Black Lion TP for example. It is true that Evons campaign seems to be more agressive, but Kiel (or Magnus? ) isn´t angel too…And I bet Kiel would never even think of joining the Council if Magnus wouldn´t basically order her to candidate. But I digress…

You stated several times that there is division in ANet and while some want to make content and some want to make money. What if I told you that as they are building new content, they are making money too? They are after all a company and they want money as everybody on the world, they have to live on something. And they are making money by delivering product with the most quality they can get. I agree that the first months of LS weren´t that great, but they are getting better with every release. Let´s just hope that this election thing is just a silence before the storm (as it doesn´t seem that this release will bring much content)

At one point, the Pale Tree gives him a greatsword forget from hers branches (or something like that…the sword has also a name, but I can´t spell it properly, so I´ll leave it to others). As the sword comes from the Pale Tree and all, it is a powerfull magical artifact and gives to his bearer unique powers (read: skills). Illi.3647

Colin already confirmed on stream, that all living stories (begining with Flame and Frost) are conected somehow. When you read a book, you too don´t get the begining, in the middle they tell you how it ends so you know it will end, and they just continue…They want to tell the story in releases, not to release the story and then follow it in releases.
It is also confirmed that there will be no new dragon (which is kinda disappointing) making appearance this year. In the light of this game beeing about fighting dragons, that´s weird but….we will see, maybe we will not see new dragon, but they can be active (one can only hope).
However, in the light of this release (Bazaar), they are showing us they didn´t forget already established lore, which is good. I just hope they will continue with the direction it is taking (and the elections are just them digressing)

Illi.3647

If we have the options “on website” or “dissmiss”, by all means website it is!
However, like others already said, he website is now the place to go to find out more about lore, there is no way to find some crucial info in game and that´s the problem. I was thinking, and actually this release is from lore standpoint (and from gameplay standpoint too!) handed best, but there is still things missing. Maybe it wasn´t the best thing to make Trek of the Zephyrites the example, since we can get an idea that it has something to do with Glint in game, but still.
What I just wanted to say, you should have more stories in game (I have no problem with some of them being on website but as someone already said, not everyone is reading everything).
You are getting better with every release gameplay-wise, now make it not just Living World, but also Living Story

PS: Thanks for your answer and time Anthony!
edit PPS: Some library, living-story-tab-thingy or something like that is so much needed. I play every release, but people that log in after month are completely lost, the don´t know the characters, what happened the last month and in need of help. Something like that would sure help them

in Cutthroat Politics

I don´t want to be the bad guy here, but it´s the election to the Lions Arch council, not to the Mists parliament…
I feel with you, hardcore WvW-ers/PvP-ers, but the elections are affecting PvE most (it is PvE story, it is happening in PvE, it will determine future PvE stories etc) so…maybe they wanted to leave it to players that are invested in PvE?
And yes, this is from a PvE player standpoint. I really feel for you, I realise that the most content goes to PvE but…Take it this way, imagine that there would be voting about some really important stuff to PvP/WvW site of the game and here comes bunch of PvE players who knows nothing about PvP and vote for the worse alternative an because of them, you get something that PvP people know is worse. Not really the case, but you see the point?

First of all, don´t know if this is better in the Sugestions sub-forum or here, in case I got it wrong just redirect this post. Also, if this was already addressed in another thread, forgive me, but I didn´t find such

So, to the point…I like concept of living story, I really do. I especially like how you linked the Zephyrites with Glin, it is good to know that the older lore is expanded upon and the updates are not just standalone episodes. The Zephyrite diary, about how they found Glint and used her, it was great. But. Why this was on a website and not in game? This disconnects the experience a little. As I see it, it would be better to make one book that fell from the Sanctum by accident, or several pages, scattered by the wind like crystals are, so that our characters could actually read it. It´s a beautyful bit of lore and it would be even more strong, if we could read it in game, not on site (and not everyone is reading that stuff too!).
Same goes for the Flame and Frost (the Braham and Rox stories). Why not put a diary of that norn that was there when Braham´s father was dying, tell the story from his angle and put the book into the Cragstead? (Or North Nolan Hatchery for Rox´s story).
Finding bits of lore like that in the world and maybe in not that accessible places is great and rewards exploration too. It´d feel that more special to the person who finds it and reads it. Like the books in Ebonhawke, that tell the story of it´s founding. Why not do it that way?
I know that not everyone could find it, and while it´s on the website, it´s accessible to everyone, but I bet that the transcription would be on wiki right on the other day that the patch hits.
Long story short – I think we should find the Lore in-game, not on a website and I hope I´m not alone in this. If someone of the devs is listening here, please, consider doing this, or do tell what is the reason you prefer it the way it is. Thanks!

How does she know it, when majority of tyrians shouldn´t know about Bubbles, not talking abut “Jungle dragon”.
I know we had a skill name Mordremoth´s something (so we pretty much know they are six of them), but now it´s actual NPC talking about it, so it´s no longer a theory now

The problem is….you just can´t love every character. I very much liked Tybald and Sieran bud I hated Forghal….it´s just….I didn´t liked him.
On the other hand, when I first met Trahearne (as a sylvari) I thought “cool, this necro who is all about Orr,sounds interesting”. Then I met him on Claw Island and it was cool too…but then I´m stucked with him for all eternity and he isn´t that much cool. I liked him at first but when I was at the end of story, I didn´t liked him at all…and with second char,I hated him. He is just a type of a character that isn´t bad when he is not around often.
I´d more like, if I can choose a character with whom I´ll go on missions. You could cooperate with your order´s division in the Pact, have a Order- specific tasks and you could choose from maybe two or three characters, with whom you´d like to go. But that´s more of a PS problem, than about Trahearne.

Anyway, I was just wondering, if among “forum”, “support” and “wiki” tabs on the site, there could be also one that´d redirect to the events site. Example: now, if I want to qucikly find official info on the Wintersday, it´d be nice to just click on the tab o top, rather than finding it in the “news 1,2,3,4…” and then clicking on “Learn more”…it´s not such a big problem, I know, but since it seems there will be one event/content update a moth, it´d be much more convinient…and also, it´d be more prominent that there is something every month just something to think about

I totally agree…also, it´s not mandatory to have “bare hand skills” for every weapon…maybe just two skills for bare hand for any weapon (so nothing in off-hand equals an off hand weapon)
Daggers for warriors (or guardians even, why not?) would be awesome, as well as spear or quarterstaff on land…it´s all good but we can´t have everything right now, can we? I just think that ANet will give us some of these things in expansions (new weapons, new weapon combinations etc)…After all, we don´t even have a 2h axe, so it have to be comming at some point.Plus, I thing ANet said they don´t want to add new classes, for balance sake, so new weapons (or old weapons that are new for some classes) is a logical course of direction here…
Please ANet…Bare-hand skills and new weapons in expansions/updates

As for weapon swapping off-combat…I don´t play neither engineer or elementalist, but I think it´d be convinience for him…As far as I know, they carry at least 1 other weapon which they swap out-of combat in inventory – which is basically the same thing, but not that easy like clicking one button

Arah Story/Zhaitan - Seriously? -_-

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Illi.3647

Illi.3647

Just wondering…how you imagined to kill an ELDER dragon, if not with canons or something similar? I think it would be more silly if you just stand at his feet and swinging your sword at his claws…I´m not saying the fight was flawless but I think the general idea of it is great…
Also, you want him to be really involved in the fight, but – he uses minions for everything! I know that “we don´t know how Elder Dragons really work” is a huge clishe, but here it is. If they wanted, all of Tyria is already devastated…Kralkatorrik just flew by and created Brand! They are one of the most powerfull things on the planet and they are just sitting there and leting their minions to do the job…Irracional? Yes! But thats just how things are, so it´s just logical that at final fight he threw all what he got on us (in terms of minions)…Besides, I don´t know if you´ve heard Zojjas technical babble about the canon (I hadn´t the chance, really) but as much as I understanded it was build specifically to weaken an Elder Dragon so it was not just “a canon”, it was “the canon”.
But really, how you imagined the last fight? And don´t say clashing at his claw like every other boss, it´d be sad if 5 people (10 if you count Destiny´s Edge) would kill Zhaitan, who is threatening all of Tyria, just with swords and fireballs…

Arah Story/Zhaitan - Seriously? -_-

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Illi.3647

Illi.3647

Well, during the fight I also thought that Zhaitan was rather small in comparrison of how I imagined it. First of all, there are gameplay reasons – so that you could actually see him in all his glory. And second…I just looked at some screens (I made a ton of them) and I realised – he actually was pretty big. At first sight, it´s not obvious, but you have to put it into scale – just look how big the airship was and he was no smaller than that…Also, as others have already said, he was severly weakened,so there is that…Plus, he fights back with the tentackle/dragon-head things…I can imagine it could be boring if you just spam attacku button but now you also have to kill those…

The cannons aren´t probably placed in the best way, none of us actually didn´t knew if they are actually hitting him, so maybe it would be good to make the skills so you can target him,not rotate the canon into 3 possible positions and pray that you are hitting him. Maybe he could also fire some stuff at you from time to time so you could also use the shield skill from previous encounter? (maybe not the best idea, but you´d at least have to focus on him)
But all in all, I had a great fun during the Arah story and since I´m trying to be immersed as best as I can and trying “to live” the character, I had pretty epic experience. I dare say Arah story was one of my most epic experiences in games so as far as I´m conserned, good job ANet! * standing ovation *

I just want to toss in a simple question – how do you feel about greatsword skins? I just ask because I think they are just too broad and thus-weird…I mean, really, if I play for example sylvari, 50% of the greatswords are broader than me and it looks silly (Vigil greatsword – best example)
Am I alone in this one, or are there also others with same opinion in this one? I personally would love to see more greatswords that look…I don´t know…more realistic? What do you think?
