Diku, even in Tier 1 there are only players during primetime (~6PM- 9PM pacific / ~9PM-12 midnight Eastern).
The guild upgrades are INSANE in cost. Even in a 500 man WvW guild you’re looking at about 7000 gold to access the +5 supply buff according to one of the guys in my guild.
The timegating means we won’t see the full ramifications of this farce until about two months later when stuff like invulnerable gates , supply drops, invuln dolyaks, and turtle banners are active.

For some reason my necro’s staff and axe attacks have obstructed much more often while attacking things on top of towers/keeps & also cannons/burning oil.
You probably have the settings cranked up & fullscreen.
Anyhow, the reason is likely because it is swapping less from the swap file. When you alt-tab it is basically put it as a background process and has to re-render desktop.
Try windowed mode if you need to alt-tab often.
Make sure to turn off post process.
One person that I was running with crashed with 64-bit, turned off post process and stopped crashing.
Tonight a whole bunch of people crashed that were running 32-bit on WvW when a zerg jumped down on us,
memory use with 64-bit client was 3.9GB, close to 4GB. I didn’t crash.
One person using 64-bit crashed once, then I told him/her to turn off post process. They don’t crash anymore
Labjax, you should list what you have now in detail.
Motherboard: socket, model, brand?
Processor: socket, model, brand?
CPU cooler & thermal paste: if overclocked
RAM: type (DDR2/DDR3/DDR4), speed? , timing?
HDD/SSD: brand and model (if SSD), capacity, speed & cache (if HDD)
Graphics card : GTX 560 , brand , is it overclocked?
PSU: wattage, power connectors , is it a reputable brand where the wattage and amperage on the +12V is adequate
Case: only important if you are buying a long graphics card
OS: Only important if you are using anything non 64-bit and older than Windows 7
How much are you willing to spend before taxes?
I’ve run GW2 on a dual core (with hyperthreading) Haswell ultrabook before. I don’t recommend pumping up the settings if you use a dual core.

XP (not WxP) gained in WvW doesn’t do anything or go toward anything
This. With the experience split between PvE and WvW the experience from mobs, rezzing players, repairing, etc. doesn’t count towards WvW rank tracks nor does it go towards PvE core / HoT masteries.
IMO it ought to go towards proof of heroics. 1 level up = proofs or something.
Having it go towards WXP would be iffy since it would make WXP more meaningless. Proof of heroics on the other hand go towards specialization (which takes ridiculously long to get in WvW) and siege weapons.
There needs to be more proof of heroics in WvW, not just from the rankup chest. For example, keep / tower / SMC cap should have proof of heroics.
Your dual core CPU is the problem , even more so if it is an AMD dual core. A GTX 560 is plenty for this game.
My advice is to get an i5 or i7 unlocked CPU if you can , and overclock to 4.0Ghz or more.
Use OpenDNS. TWC has a horrible DNS. Also try resetting & restarting the modem.
If that fails call them and ask if them if you have a line issue.
Yes, go to the Vanilla visa website or call them (1-800-571-1376) and tell them to authorize the purchase.
A better way is to use paysafecard or American Express (you can call them to put your address).
Source: Prior experiences using Vanilla Visa & American Express cards on websites not accepting Paypal
Why are you using 32-bit Windows?
I’d advise you to get a copy of Windows that isn’t 32-bit.
The i3-530 is fully capable of 64-bit Windows. (see http://ark.intel.com/products/46472/Intel-Core-i3-530-Processor-4M-Cache-2_93-GHz , Instruction Set 64-bit)
If you have a 6-pin you can run a R7 370 (~$120 ASUS on Newegg) or GTX 960. However, since the CPU would be the limiting factor a MSI GTX 750 Ti for $105 on Newegg would be a good choice. I think a ~$150 GTX 950 would be overkill , and the R7 360 / R7 260X / R7 260 would be weaker cards plus you would need to plug in the power connector.
I would not buy a low-mid range AMD GPU at this time unless it is dirt cheap and 15-20% faster than a comparable Nvidia GTX 900 series card (<$100 , though that Sapphire R7 265 comes close there’s a very large rebate involved). While the Nvidia GTX 900 series are all new cards (Maxwell) , all AMD GPUs are tweaked rehashes save for the Fury X , Fury and Fury Nano. The minor power savings alone would make me go for Nvidia if it’s the same price as a comparable AMD GPU. This minor power savings also allows you to effortlessly overclock the Nvidia Maxwell GPUs without runaway power usage.
TL; DR:
Get Windows 7 , 8 , 8.1 or 10 as long as it is 64-bit —→ depends on hardware compatability
Lower power heat/noise ---> MSI GTX 750 Ti TwinFrozr for $115 , $10 MIR = $105 shipped
AMD loyalty , slightly faster card—-> Sapphire R7 265 100370L for $110 , $20 MIR = $94 shipped OR the ASUS R7 370 STRIX for $124 ($20 MIR)

Where are new players getting it for $40? They pay $50 and don’t get a free slot.
If you prepurchased and are a veteran player , you are supposed to get an extra slot. It’s as simple as that , no need to overcomplicate things.
They ought to have all the garbage you need to gather for WvW guild upgrades to be able to drop in WvW when you get a keep/tower/rankup.

Gaile, please send the devs who worked on this my sincere thanks.
I hope it will solve the massive lag on Desert Borderlands map once the laser event happens. I will let you know tonight.
edit: I guess I missed the laser event for tonight but we ran into 25+ enemy zerg with our 20ish YB two-guild alliance group and I didn’t lag a single bit (i5 @ 4.6Ghz , 8GB DDR3). Great work.
edit 2: Peak RAM usage ~ 3-3.5GB (commit charge was around 3.5GB) ; Day 2: 3.7GB peak

Where as for the proofs, the extent of your challenge is simply making sure to obtain the scroll on the right character. For certain points, the wvw method might actually be easier/faster.
I dunno about that, I spent hours in eotm this last week and came away with a piddling 8 proofs and barely any badges at all. They nerfed eotm rewards hardcore.
If you spent hours on EoTM and only got about 2-4 WvW ranks the commander wasn’t that great.
As someone who has gotten in excess of 250 proofs, use exp buffs. Stack them up if you can. WXP booster , birthday booster , celebration booster , guild banner, everything that boosts WXP.
I did most of them during launch weekend when all the T1 players ktrained in EBG. My alts are still working on it though.
For servers lower than T2 it is ridiculous to expect people to get 250 hero points in WvW outside of EoTM for revenant.

I can confirm:
Air keep main gate cannot be sieged
Core / skysplitter event causes skill lag for all players on map
Pets dying in lava even when the player has the buff
Random contested when nothing hitting tower
Random obstruction
Random nonfunctional auto turrets (when AoEing burning oil or gates)
Supply drop at spawn the wrong color
Random NPC spawn (I.e. quartermaster outside keep wall)

Really now? A doom thread like this when the game’s expansion is not even one month old, wow.
Yes Arenanet has a ton of things to fix. However, by no means would I worry about the future of GW2 until HoT is at least out for one quarter (3 months old).
HoT is indeed grind-ier but it is nowhere on the level of Asian MMOs.
Arenanet’s concessions on mastery gating & elite spec are a good step back.
Is there anything wrong with PvE-only people finishing their storylines and leaving til Living Story / expansions come out? I don’t think so.
(edited by Infusion.7149)
Huh? Axe is 900 range. Is 100 range more going to make a huge difference? Probably not.
A long time core issue in WvW has been the rewards. Whenever I play in it, I feel like I’m losing gold. It’s no wonder the average player doesn’t commit a lot of time to this game mode.
There’s also skill lag, but that’s another issue.
Feel like? More like “are” .
We need to PvE just to get keep and tower claiming now. It’s ludicrous.
Sorry, if you want them to remove chests of the mist from EBG then you’ll make EBG as dead as the Desert BLs on non-primetime hours.
Besides, chest of the mists comes from WxP rankup, so people would just leave EBG once they’re close to rankup.
EBG is pretty empty when it isn’t primetime these days.
(edited by Infusion.7149)
I don’t think they lied to you. I think that the one service rep was unaware of the specifics regarding that promotion.
Remember, Arenanet hadn’t originally planned on giving prepurchase veteran players an extra slot.
I’d wait til this Friday and give them time to solve it. The slots are typically distributed on Fridays.
Because WvW is PvP for PvE players and sPvP is for PvP players.
One of my guildmates is/was top ranked PvP player NA (Tibs).
He still plays WvW, so I disagree with your assessment.
If you want more than 5v5 or 10v10 it’s now OS or Arenas (https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Arena_Restoration_2) if it’s all one guild (GvG) or WvW for multiple guilds.
If you want to incorporate siege and fog of war(because PvP shows all players on the map) , it’s WvW.
(edited by Infusion.7149)
Rune with no name.
I support this change along with UI tickbox option for traditionalists.
I agree with your assessment of catapults being quicker.
Have you considered golems as well? The guild siege golem is only 50 supply and costs about the same as an omega on the TP. You can reuse them after taking a tower or keep.
The only issue with catas is the 50 supply if your group is small, nobody seems to have reduced supply guild catas unlocked yet.
(edited by Infusion.7149)
Gaile, I occasionally get this green message “Cannot connect to the guild server” also.
It happens more often when I am set to “Online” than “Away”.
I have full access to the guild hall & the guild chat when this occurs & can see all the yellow dots on maps.
I suspect it has something to do with the representation of the guild (guild chat changed for HoT in that you can use g1 , g2, g3, etc).
The WvW guild I rep has 500 people in it on a regular basis (sometimes 495-498 depending on kicking of inactives) so it may not reflect everyone’s situation.
Extra proofs can be used for siege.
GvG has moved to arenas AFAIK.
WvW buffs are mainly PvE gained though, since many of the required materials are from PvE.
My point was that is why you rep your guild , the guild buffs/claiming . Guild missions also.
Also you can tell where your guildmates are on all the BLs.
P.S. I did a typo in the passage above, it should read “I don’t know if” , not “I don’t if”
(edited by Infusion.7149)
Supply drop is unable to be used because the supply pad is the wrong color.
I don’t if guilds have actually gotten their upgrades yet, but in the stresstest here are some things that you ought to keep an eye on
Invulnerable Fortifications: Craft schematics to manufacture a tier 2 tactic that temporarily makes the walls and gate of your claimed objective impervious to enemy attack.
Turret Gates: Craft schematics to manufacture a tier 3 improvement that causes the gates at your guild’s claimed objective to actively attack invaders.
Assault Roller: Craft schematics to manufacture a tier 2 tactic that summons a charr assault roller at your camp, which one of your guild members can transform into as a highly mobile siege weapon.
Invincible Dolyak: Craft schematics to manufacture a tier 1 tactic that sends an invulnerable supply dolyak from a claimed camp.
Speedy Dolyaks: Craft schematics to manufacture a tier 2 improvement that significantly increases the speed of dolyaks departing from your guild’s claimed supply camp.
Minor Supply Drop: Craft schematics to manufacture a tier 1 tactic that refills the supply cache at your guild’s claimed objective.
Sabotage Depot: Craft schematics to manufacture a tier 1 improvement that rigs the supply depot at your guild’s claimed objective to explode if your objective is captured by enemies, destroying all of the supply there.
My biggest beef, is that 1 WvW Rank doesn’t give you 10 Proofs of Heroic. Considering it actually takes more effort to do a Rank than it does to do a Heroic Challenge.
It’s currently 2-4 , which is very low unless you’re pumping a ton of WvW exp buffs.
It ought to be 5 , 10 or something fixed in number that is greater than 3 on average.
I’ve gotten over 250 proofs this week so far under the current system but most of that was ktraining in EBG with the buffs.
(edited by Infusion.7149)
It scales with the number of players hitting it.
I remember getting hit for 10K on a character with 2600 -2800 armor , the same character in an attacking group with about half the players I was getting hit for a reasonable 3-4K.
(edited by Infusion.7149)
it’s one thief/mes per roaming group ofc
The + condi duration food was nerfed too, so the food change can’t be the (main) reason for your problems …
yes that food was nerfed too and there is a new stat combination to increase condi duration but none that decreases it..imo thoughness should either reduce condi duration or condi dmg.
Why should toughness decrease condi duration / or damage?
Invest in more health (vitality); if there is a change to make toughness resist conditions then heavy armor has more of an advantage. Melandru runes , hoelbrak runes exist. Also there is the “resistance” boon.
I can see an argument for reversing the stability change , but I don’t see a reason why conditions should be affected by toughness.
Let’s run through the conditions:
Bleeding
Poison
Burning
Confusion
Torment
Blind
Vulnerability
Slow
Weakness
Chill (CC)
Immob (CC)
Cripple (CC)
Fear
Please specify which you would like changed to be affected by toughness.
(edited by Infusion.7149)
You really need to roam in groups of a few players to do well in the Desert BL.
The upgraded camps will easily kill you if you are not prepared to deal with the stuns, pulls, blind, poison, knockdown, & weakness. I watched a warrior die to the Desert BL’s T2 camps before , but maybe it was a PvEer running berserker armor.
The barricades take ages to break through with 2-3 people , especially if you are a condi-spec roamer instead of power-based. The barricades take ~50 to 60 damage from auto-attacks.
If solo, you don’t have enough supply to build a ram or catapult so at a minimum two players with 15 supply or 3 players with 10 supply each is optimal.
The one thing a solo player can do well is taking out the sentries before a group rolls through. On YB we typically have a single thief or mesmer take out the sentry , marking only one person THEN have the larger group roll through. That way the enemy sees only one person when you have 10-15 people.
Taking a shrine is relatively easy with a single player as well. It is especially beneficial when taking the air keep since the knockback turrets are really annoying.
Killing yaks and defending yaks is much less important now due to the way upgrading has been changed. Refreshing siege is not as important now that you cannot waypoint a keep.
P.S. For the WvW guild missions (cap a camp, cap & hold a camp, cap 2 camps, cap a sentry point, cap 3 sentry points, cap a tower) they require 3 guild members.
(edited by Infusion.7149)
Some of these are not bugs and are simply gripes.
Was it in WvW proper or EoTM?
I tested after you posted. Occasionally if I did not tag the camp supervisor for enough damage I would not get the 2 badges of honor.
It does work, but I suspect that is more nuanced in terms of how much damage you need to do to the boss (rather than standing in the ring). You’re more likely to get the reward if you are partied up in a group of 5 and not zerging.
I’ve never seen anyone pop a mentor tag in WvW.
Most everyone serious about WvW bought the tag when it was still 100g; I did.
Having only red mentor tags on the map means it is more difficult to differentiate for multi team coordination.
(edited by Infusion.7149)
I can confirm:
Loot bags for all players still occurs
EoTM waypoints do not show name when linked
Siege cannot be placed outside the west outer gate of Air Keep (Preventing rams from being built in front of the gate
Other:
SMC cap sometimes does not give WXP even if you get the 50 WXP from killing the lord and get completion for the cap SMC event .
(edited by Infusion.7149)
I asked several people if this still occurs and apparently it still does. You cannot put siege on the main gate for the air keep.
Basically you cannot ram the main gate.
It’s possible. However, it is much harder due to “marking” and the map layout.
I had a guildie portal into earth keep and I did so myself before.
There is less incentive due to lack of WP.
Chrono / Reaper are strong, no doubt.
I think herald is probably a stronger elite than Dragonhunter
You can play a Guardian without playing Dragonhunter (plus DH means you give up some party support), playing a Revenant without Herald is significantly harder.
However Revenant/Herald is unfinished: underwater fighting is still not working properly.
Here is what an intelligent, thoughtful, and experienced game designer would do at a bare minimum:
1. Make the chest stack like every other bag/chest in the game.
2. Keep the chests account bound.
3. Make the scrolls account bound.
With that said, I absolutely do not expect this to happen.
I like these ideas.
I’d probably make the proof of heroics to a wallet currency if they’re accountbound.
As far as “character progression” , 250 hero points on a Revenant without elite spec is rather brutal if it’s WvW.
(edited by Infusion.7149)
Wait for the dust to settle. It’s still too early to make a call.
Hoelbrak is a solid choice if you already have it.
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/earning-hero-points-in-world-vs-world/
“Combining 5 proofs and 150 Badges of Honor yields 1 Notarized Scroll of Maguuma Heroics.”
Currently it is 10 proofs & 50 badges ; 1 proof & 5 badges
(edited by Infusion.7149)
Put the boxes in your bank and open them on the character that needs the hero points. The boxes ought to stack, that was another glaring oversight by Arenanet (besides the soulbound proof of heroics ,waypoint bug, 5 proofs per maguuma scroll turning into 10).
(edited by Infusion.7149)
I just wanted to add that a group of two to three people takes several minutes to blow up a barricade.

If you define hardcore players as people with time and energy to grind out 400 hero points in a day of playing…
Those “filthy casuals” pay for Arenanet’s development process. The less time you spend in game the more likely you will have cash to pay for gems ; the more likely you will buy gems with real cash than in game gold. Likewise, the more time you spent in game farming the more gold you will have.
The whole reason for GW2’s success thus far is providing a MMO experience without the need for MMO grinding for gear and basic game mechanics. The lack of a monthly fee means there is less incentive for them to care as long as they sell more copies. All the cosmetics in the gem store are a perfect example. You wouldn’t put it as a RNG drop if you don’t have a subscription. Gold farmers ,exploiters, cheaters are a scourge to a game with a cashshop. They use up bandwidth and don’t provide a welcome environment for casuals.
The core philosophy should be “is it fun?” That’s what sells more copies to “casuals”. The more farming is encouraged for basic game mechanics, the more toxic the game will become. Look at dungeons, speed runs make people ping gear. That is fine because repeating dungeons over is designed to be optional. The very concept of fractals is a more extreme case: the gear is highly influential to player performance.
Do you really want elitist jerks all over the place ruining the experience for new players? A box sale is $50 for Arenanet.
The problem with the reduction in hero points was the maguuma hero points should have counted towards the skins like Living Story. Suddenly having a reaper hood isn’t so cool anymore because it is not as exclusive. I don’t remember anyone complaining about Luminescent armor or the ascended gear from the Living Story achievements.
The people not statfocused, such as role players , might want the skills on their alts but not want to grind out hero pts. The WvWers (including player-made GvG) that don’t want to play PvE on their alts need a better way to gain hero pts. Keep in mind the only reason to have more than one of every class is roleplay (race, gender) or preset WvW builds. The only people exempt are PVPers with instant full unlock.
Arenanet was on a slippery slope when they introduced ascended armor with better stats. When you have any player with a non-cosmetic difference, there is an issue.
Just think about it. The people that were complaining about it (forum can be posted on via smartphone) instead of playing HoT don’t have access to the game because they are either working or in school. If they linked it to their account they cannot get a refund so the obvious choice is to complain and hope it gets fixed. The more alts you have (once again ,cash shop for character slots) the more it affects you. The people that don’t care about HoT whatsoever would just quit if they were looking for what GW2 was advertised as. The zones themselves are mostly empty from reports in guild chat.
Expect more changes to HoT towards the casual side in the future.
Hope that elucidates some of it for you from a business standpoint.
(edited by Infusion.7149)
Dear OP,
Please keep in mind some of us cannot play 9 characters like this.
WvW players cannot fully unlock multiple alts’ traits/skills (9 classes) very easily without going to PvE. Unless they make it so that all your elite specs are unlocked and the PvE unlocking of elite spec gives the items or whatever , then I don’t see how a reduction of HP is bad.
Someone in another thread stated that they have 20+ alts or something like that, many of them with less than 100 hero points.
Elite specializations are a game mechanic , your PvE masteries can be grindy as you want.
