WvW players had very few hero points on their alts. 250 is still a tall order for my alts , honestly.
I think one thread had someone with 20 alts , each with below 100 hero points. Even if you have 9 characters (one per class) it is a lot of hero points.
For your main character , yes 250 is not that bad if you have map completion.
(edited by Infusion.7149)
Apparently u only need 250 HP (soonTM).
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/heads-up-iteration-incoming/
Got put in tonight.
It’ll only take you 250 hero pts now, but at an average 3 proofs per rank it will take you a good 84 WvW ranks
It’s a CPU bound game , fairly single-threaded. You’re gimping yourself with an AMD CPU.
The best CPUs to buy for this are Intel i5 unlocked CPUs, which you can overclock.
So does this mean we should roll new WvW characters, rank up, delete, repeat? Since you gain WvW levels faster in the beginning, isn’t it more efficient to make smurf accounts, transfer over the proofs and then start over?
The proofs and notary are soulbound, not account bound. You are going to have to level on the character you want to get the points for.
That’s what tomes are for :P
You’re delusional if you think fully unlocked Elite specs are easy to obtain and a “compromise”.
See 50+ pages (3000+ posts) on this matter in this very forum.
If I want to unlock Reaper on my WvW-only necro I need to grind out 400 proof of heroics , or bring it to PvE and grind out masteries just to get to the hero points.
(edited by Infusion.7149)
The chest of mists give 2-4 proof of heroics (it’s random). You’re mistaken: you only got 6 proof of heroics due to bonus chests.
5 Proof of Heroics gives 10 Hero Points if you use Maguuma scrolls , but now they changed to 10 proofs. (see https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/earning-hero-points-in-world-vs-world/)
It could take anywhere from 25 WvW levels (8 per level , 4 per chest) to 100 WvW levels (2 per chest , no bonus chests) for 400 hero pts depending on the bonus chests. Now it is double that.
(edited by Infusion.7149)
They need to restore this, hopefully with less proof of heroics required.
Everyone on EBG was freaking out about it. They thought they had to PvE to get elite specs now. Nobody knew about any exploits.
I think the most lame part is that the amount of heroics you get per level up is RANDOM, somewhere between 2-4. I have no idea why they did this, but that’s nothing short of frustrating that some players would be put behind due to dumb luck.
It’s really in between 100 and 200 levels, so I am going to say 150.
To be fair, it should be changed to 1/5 of that though. It only requires 40 maguuma challenges but 150-200 WvW chests.
All the dailies relate to old border and EB.
Seems like Anet didnt even know WvW had dailies. Hm.
When I read in guildchat that people couldn’t find veteran creature or ruins I basically laughed about it.
It’s just like the copy-paste job of Desert BL on the WvW map.
I think you are unaware. Proof of Heroics can be used for hero pts. It’s slower though.
Hello WvW Community.
As there seems to be quite a few concerns and comments on the new maps we’ve just gotten, I’d like to gather up some feedback in a single place and ask a few questions.
Please format your post to answer these statements. You don’t have to answer all of them. Please stay on topic and do not make negative comments about other posts even if you know they’re totally wrong. Do not make passive aggressive comments about anyone. Please do not include salt in your post.
This thread shall be ongoing, so if you have had a change of heart for any reason, you may continue posting, but obviously don’t spam it every day.
- Describe a typical hour for you in the Alpine Borderlands in the past. For example, What size of group were you running in? What kind of tasks did you run? What activities did you do?
I typically ran solo or small group havocing /roaming unless attacking an enemy keep with my guild on Yak’s Bend (Footsteps of War). Havocing consists of killing yaks to prevent enemy upgrading structures, taking camps to prevent upgrading of enemy structures, making trebuchets to drain enemy supply, popping swords on enemy keeps, making a distraction while another group attacks the other side of a keep, anything to make enemy structures weaker & easier to cap.
I also ran yellow tag (guard tag on our server) along with some other “scouts” , sieging up keeps with arrow carts (AC) and trebs (trebuchets), tagging said siege, escorting yaks , retaking camps. Yak’s Bend is notorious for holding enemy keeps on lower tiers (including enemy garrison) for 48+ hours and sieging it up.
Sometimes we had a havoc group that was able to take a keep via cata wall or rams on gates. As a mesmer most of the time, portaling into enemy keeps and hiding (my armor / weapon is colored as close to the environment as possible , smallest sylvari mesmer) was essential.
- Compare your experience described above with a typical hour spent in Eternal Battlegrounds, if you went there at all. Does your style of play change between the 2 maps?
EBG was more focused on keeping our third of the map. Guarding was essential but taking camps in enemy third of the map typically was not as common because they’d take it back quicker.
- Compare your experiences described above with an hour spent in the new borderlands.
Most of the time is spent capping shrines / not fully upgraded camps, and jumping/running around. If a keep is capped typically it is the fire one. Without the air shrines it is very slow to navigate to the air keeps. When attacking a fortified keep it is most likely you need 35+ unless you hit a wall on an undefended keep.
Attacking a keep with the air shrines upgrade is a P.I.T.A. , you get knocked off a lot. The fire keep is a pushover is comparison , the earth keeps’ cripple and barriers are marginally effective. The shifting sands stealth effect doesn’t mean as much because the group owning garrison typically is the one that is owning the map.
The red orange dots on the map are a minor inconvenience if you have a zerg , but diminish any groups without stealth to avoid getting spotted by the sentries. This essentially kills all non-stealth roamers’ undetected movement through the Yak routes.
Also the enemy borderlands are bugged , you can waypoint into the spawn tower. Some of my guild stated this was by design, but an Arenanet employee informed us on this forum that it is not! The fact that a bug can be seen as “normal” is an issue.
- Describe the nature of combat in the borderlands in the past. How have the new borderlands impacted this paradigm for you? What style or build changes might it cause? For example, knocking people off cliffs or into lava might play a more important role.
The new borderlands are heavily reliant on jumping (not a strong suit of mine even though my main is mesmer ). With the stability changes and map verticality, the air shrines are really strong.
- In your experience, compare the time it takes take a structure or objective here, then it did in the past.
Fortified gates are ridiculous, but the normal walls and reinforced walls/gates are within reason. However if you have a small group the huge distance becomes an issue if you want to build more than one piece of siege. Fully upgraded camps take a bit more effort to take due to lack of “guard stacks”. Towers are relatively easy to take, but upgrade faster.
Defending an upgraded keep is easier but getting to the keep as a defending team is harder due to lack of waypoints.
The barricades are a major annoyance if you run a non-power build ; auto attacks only do about 40-60 damage to these.
Also even on EBG, the keep lord has been upgraded : I was hit for 10K by meteor shower according to the combat log. The scaling is sometimes off.
Do note, the core laser event is ridiculous, it basically vaporizes the enemy gate in less than 10 seconds.
- How is the loot and wxp for you compared to in the past? Will it be able to sustain whatever you are doing? Did it take a hit, or was it improved? If you are planning to unlock an elite specialization, do you think you were helped or hurt in these regards? Do you think you could pursue any other in-game goals just by playing WvW?
It seems the loot has slightly improved but WxP comes slower. I feel as though defending should give more rewards. Keep in mind I am on a Tier 1 server, so it doesn’t reflect other tiers! The Desert Borderlands were pretty empty until last night’s reset and it was not queued (very rare for reset on T1). The only other in-game goal you can achieve is hero points via the proof of heroics and minimal gold compared to PvE.
I feel as though WvW players should be given more slack on earning the Elite specializations , perhaps 15-20 WvW rank’s worth compared to 40 hero challenges. Right now I get about 2-4 proof of heroics per WvW chest.
I don’t believe anyone in WvW has attained the 400 250 hero pts via WvW yet, but someone in my guild replaying since HoT launch has already gotten their full 400 250 hero points from PvEing in HoT (one day’s work) on two characters. Because the proof of heroics are all new and generally harder to earn than Tyrian hero points (especially due to EoTM changes), I feel they should be given much more weight than the hero points from Tyria.
- How will the map change impact the long sessions (multiple hours) you spend in WvW?
Defending is harder due to the amount of hiding spots and the core laser event, capping upgraded camps is harder, capping fortified keeps is harder. Many things are on autopilot.
- In 100 words or less, describe how the new BLs could be improved.
Fortified keeps’ gates should not be so ridiculous with auto turrets. Attacking a wall with catas is better for small groups, but when you have 30+ people you can just beat on the gate (no different than old WvW). Last night we capped JQ garrison, but with (ranged) omega golems and 30+.
Also the Desert BL maps have a major lag issue.
Capping a fully upgraded keep should grant proof of heroics I think , towers ought to also.
Also they need to fix various bugs such as being unable to deploy siege on the air keep main gate.
- In 100 words or less, describe how the borderlands work to a new WvW player.
It’s Silverwastes with a lot of jumping and verticality , a bit more fighting against other players, and siege you put yourself.
- In 100 words or less, describe how the borderlands work to a veteran WvW player that is new to the maps.
It’s EoTM on steroids.
- Which map am I most likely to find you currently, if you’re on Gw2?
Eternal Battle Grounds, Desert Borderlands if EBG empty, or EotM (until I get 400 hero pts).
Key points:
Sincerely,
A Yaks Bend Mesmer (FoW) + Yaks Bend Elementalist since launch , with Yellow “Guard” Tag

EDIT: Nov 1 2015 to add the air keep bug ; update for 250 hero points
(edited by Infusion.7149)
I can understand why it’s not a currency. It’s currently soulbound.
I don’t know why it is not accountbound, the chest they come out of are accountbound.
It’s true, this looks terrible.
The daily rewards aren’t too bad actually since you could just decide to not open the chest until you want the boost. It’s slightly annoying.
Those proofs of heroics being soulbound though… I understand why but that could be troublesome.
Is that actually correct? So not only do we have to do some huge amount of levels, but we have to do them on that character only?
I do wonder who think these things up…obviously not someone who enjoys playing more than one class in wvw!
I can confirm the heroic proofs are soulbound. However I believe you need to open the accountbound WvW rankup chest to get them.
I experienced a buggy map today. I’m on YB and when I went on JQ BL the tower on our section of the map had a usable waypoint even though we don’t own it.
I am not sure if this is by design, but it seems like a bug to me.
Unless Elite specs are barred from WvW temporarily then it isn’t going be pretty when the only people with unlocked Elite specs for the first week(s) are PvEers.
The Desert BL hasn’t been tested enough, let alone the Elite specs in WvW.

Most of us do have rank 200 and much higher but its not retroactive that we have been made aware of so even for the most hard core of WvW players 200 ranks will take a couple weeks.
It’s nice that they gave us this as an after thought but thats really not the right word because there wasn’t much thought put into it. The amount we get per rank need to be increased significantly if we’re to keep up with the Jones (PvE). Right now 200 ranks is like spitting in our face, it’s basically the same as leaving a penny for a tip and expecting a thank you from your server.
If this is the case, might as well disable Elite specs in WvW temporarily until the PvE side of HoT is bug-fixed.
There has not been sufficient testing and if only a small extremely hardcore player portion of the playerbase has access to it for the first week (or two), the situation will be even worse.
It seems that gaining 200 WvW ranks per character , mind you is a lot to ask someone just for the Elite specialization. Many players will be EoTM farming or PvEing because you won’t get that many ranks in a T1/T2 server as easily or quickly.
When you need 40 Jungle hero challenges or 200 WvW ranks per character then it is clear WvW is not really an efficient option at all. Let’s not discount the 6000 badges required per character.
If Arenanet could elucidate how many of the hero points are required for a working Elite specialization compared to PvE stuff like gliding it would be nice. I don’t know if it is 400 hero points per character, if it is then that would be truly grindy.
i.e. if the Elite spec with Elite skills is 20 WvW ranks it would be more reasonable. Unless you get a Notarized scroll every time you cap a keep, SMC, or tower (in place of whatever lame green items you get in addition to dragonite ores) in “real” WvW and not EoTM, I don’t see it being a quick affair.
My suggestion if 400 hero points is really needed for Elite spec with elite skill:
Make WvW ranks give 2 notarized scrolls per rank as currently stated. Each SMC cap gives 10-20 notarized scrolls, a keep cap gives 5-10 notarized scrolls, tower cap gives 2 (i.e. reward real WvW not EoTM karma training).
Perhaps an account-wide solution is to be made, where after the first elite spec is unlocked the next character doesn’t cost 400 hero points but something more reasonable to attain in a week (per character).
EDIT:
I’ve never seen a single thread full of so many lies and misinformation before. I’d swear you guys have never even seen GW2 before if I was going off this thread.
1. Mastery points are NOT the same are hero points. There were no hero points in the BWE’s, you found mastery points. They didn’t show us the hero points yet.
2. 400 points is to unlock the ENTIRE line. This includes runes, sigils, weapon skin, and armor skin. According to the datamining it is 170 to unlock the traits, then you unlock the skills, and then you unlock the items. It will be closer to 250 points to unlock all the elite spec, the last ~150 points are just for cosmetics and runes/sigils.
3. Alts will benefit greatly from account bound masteries, making it very easy to get to the hero points on alts.
Please take these points into account when discussing the unlocks. If anything contradicts this post then it is a lie.
Let’s say it does “only” cost 250 points to unlock the elite spec. That is still 125 WvW ranks per character.

To all WvW Players:
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/earning-hero-points-in-world-vs-world/
“The addition of these new items means you can do every hero challenge in the game by exclusively playing WvW if you wish!”
5 WvW ranks, 10 Hero points with Maguuma Scrolls
1 WvW rank, 1 Hero Point with central Tyrian ScrollsAnd note:
a)10 points per challenge in Maguuma.
b)There are enough challenges in Maguuma alone to get all Hero Points required.
So… 200 WvW ranks?
I think that a Saturday night reset would devastate the WvW communities since it bifurcates the weekend into two.
Given that the night of reset typically is not a deciding factor currently (most of the matches are decided before that) I don’t see the point. Would moving it to Saturday night mean people struggle to pull the score ahead on Friday + Saturday? Probably not if the score gap is large.
http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/DMyJ4D —> 580GBP using DDR4 RAM on DDR4 compatible motherboard
I’m not sure if this is a serious post.
Elementalists are incredibly versatile already and you can swap weapons when you are out of combat.
For for convenience of out of battle swapping , Arenanet ought to add armor/weapon build saved setups of some sort however.
I have a feeling it has something to do with your graphics card drivers.
Do you know whether your GPU is overheating? What is the GPU usage like?
Have you checked your RAM & HDD for errors?
You should not be getting 6-7 FPS unless it is a big map blob or a major zerg in WvW.
However, that is what I would build today if I was in the UK. Even if you go with a cheaper HDD you’d end up at ~ 500GBP
Press B or whatever you have keybinded to WvW. Go to Anvil Rock Borderlands (Red).
Just keep in mind the biggest performance gain is to be had from the clockspeed of the CPU (especially unlocked CPUs like the i5-4690K, i7-5820K) unless you are running Supersample or a resolution higher than 1080p. i7 Hyperthreading doesn’t help much.
I would recommend buying RAM in a two pack (4GB X2 , 8GB X2) if you get an i5-4690K due to dual channel memory.
I’d also recommend a cheaper ~250GB Crucial MX200 / Samsung 850 EVO / Samsung 840 Pro / Intel 750 / Intel 730 SSD as a boot drive and game load drive. (SSD review database http://www.johnnylucky.org/data-storage/ssd-database.html)
Make sure to buy a reliable 500W+ PSU with 80+ Bronze or better, such as a Seasonic X series / G series, Corsair AX series, or XFX (Seasonic is their OEM). PSU Review Database: http://www.realhardtechx.com/index_archivos/PSUReviewDatabase.html
Pretty much any recent midrange GPU is going to perform okay at High settings and 1080p. (GTX 970, GTX 960, GTX 950, GTX 770, GTX 760, GTX 670, GTX 660 Ti, R9 380, R7 370, R9 290, R9 280X, R9 285, R9 280, R9 270X, R9 270)
Note that the GPU number is very misleading sometimes. A bigger number doesn’t always correlate with more performance. A GTX 960 sometimes is slower than a GTX 670 or GTX 770 ; R7 370 is slower than a R9 270X.
(edited by Infusion.7149)
Auto Turrets, Hardened Gates, Hardened Siege (mortar+cannon+oil) make it more difficult to take Gates.
Gates are also made invulnerable by “Invulnerable Fortifications”.
The auto turrets hit quite hard, coupled with the time you need to break the fortified gates it becomes much easier to just use a golem , trebuchet, or catapult on a wall.

Gaile,
Some people in the Desert BL map have stated that they have access but have not gotten the email. I asked the people that stated this if they checked their spam folder but they also checked their spam folders.
If there is to be another Desert BL test, other than the shield generator feature, the sending out of emails should be looked into.

Generally I find that blink is much less strong on the Desert BL map due to the pathing issues (i.e. some walls/overhangs mean that even if you could jump onto the ledge you can’t blink there).
It’s not possible to capture any tower without shield generator… It should be available to everyone, or people with hot should have a separate server wvw.
No. A bunch of us captured quite a few towers without shield generator use.

The tower is called Eternal Necropolis. It’s the NE Tower , with Champion Lord Lykesh and his Veteran Bone Minions.
I don’t know if it’s been patched, but I tested this ten minutes ago and it is fine.
I used the blink skill and decoy didn’t go on cooldown.
As far as defense some things I noticed with the Desert BL maps:
It is extremely easy to hide a mesmer due to the size of keeps , provided they can live long enough with all the automated defenses
Nobody bothers building gate trebs / arrowcarts for defense
6 Omegas and a Ram couldn’t take down a fortified gate (with the hardened gate buff) quickly , highlighting what you said about the strength of defenses
Some cannons cannot hit players outside the walls
The guild upgrade ((607117)) that disallows players to kill burning oil , cannons, and mortars is extremely annoying , it basically mandates a ballista , treb, or an Omega golem to take out any defensive fixtures
The environmental effects for Fire shrines are stronger than Earth/Air shrines. The burning is painful no matter how many you have, the slows don’t do as much when you have a mesmer or more than 2 people.
(edited by Infusion.7149)
One hour is not enough experience of the map to make a call on the maps.
The keeps/towers/camps/shrines all have icons.
An hour in I used a golem on the wrong wall for a tower.

Try running the -repair flag to check the archive
Then run the -windowed and -perf flags on a shortcut
It is where you downloaded it.
Files:
Gw2FeaturePublicTestTiny.tmp
Gw2FeaturePTT.dat
THIRDPARTYSOFTWAREREADME.txt
Gw2FeaturePTT.tmp
Gw2FeaturePublicTestTiny.exe
Gw2Setup.exe.opdownload
All screenshots are in your documents folder under “Guild Wars 2 Gw2FeaturePublicTestTiny” however
It was not my intention to do so but I played on an i5 dual core broadwell mobile CPU (no discrete graphics so 8GB RAM shared; normally I run an i5 overclocked @ 4.6GHz, AMD GPU, and 8GB RAM) and it ran okay (not a slideshow but not 60fps always) but you need to lower settings and subsample so it looks like 2005 Guild Wars on low settings. That is if you want to stay in 45-60 FPS range.
If you can put up with ~ 20FPS you can probably run it on 1600×900 native with low settings.
The biggest constraint has always been CPU unless you turn the graphics all the way up.
For Intel mobile CPUs, the biggest difference between the same generation i3 , i5, i7 (not i7 with “Q” for quad) is clock speed and cache. There is also the consideration of Iris Pro graphics on some CPUs.
The map is huge and very vertical similar to Silverwastes & Drytop.

I was able to play in Full screen after entering in windowed mode.
Try -repair flag and windowed mode

I didn’t prepurchase yet because I want to see how WvW pans out (and only just recently was a Oct 23 launch date announced) and I was surprised to find an old 2nd closed beta WvW invite from July and a new one for this stress test as well.
I did sign up for the newsletter a while back (I don’t remember when).
I am not sure if it is related the sheer number of hours I play WvW vs other game types. It may just be whether you signed up for the newsletter.
Ouch so then expansion could be said to be Pve only
Thanks for info ^^^ greatly appreciated
If you want to make a Revenant it is not PvE only
It’s $40 if you count the character slot for pre-ordering (something that should have been part of the deal from the beginning).
I don’t understand the fuss, since now there is an incentive to pre-order the standard edition.
Before there was no incentive to pre-order assuming the beta events’ progress doesn’t get saved.

Price isn’t the problem, absolutely no bonus for pre-purchasing, even if you own the original release, is.
The access to the beta weekends is pretty much the only incentive *unless the prepurchase features (kite/guild hall item/mini) are removed after official launch
However, the “vanilla” GW2 HoT is hardly a good value for someone who owns GW2.

I was hoping that pre-purchase (not purchase) would provide an extra character slot regardless of the edition.
