You are pretty right, i main a ranger and we know that pretty well how you feel. But you have to consider that they are fixing all that stuff or reworking it, because its not working now. This sounds pretty optimistic i know, but a lot of changes the ranger forum ranted for happened, so rant about the kitten changes and make reasonable changes what can be improved and report bugs over and over again. Anet has to know, has to consider, thats what a community is for.

Sorry but Revs will be a must pick on all pro teams for PvP. You will see great representation in the ranked season as well due to the insane damage output combined with the inherent survivability of the class.
It won’t. Now that they lack access to stability on demand classes with instant interrupts like Mesmers will eat them alive, specially against classes that can interrupt from stealth. You will waste breakstuns doing nothing but trying to stand on foot while them whack you like a ragdoll.
I dont know him but i am sure that was pure sarcasm.
Problem with rev:
Tons of bugs
Pigeonholded to boonshare in pve.
Pigeonholded to shiro in pvp.
Extrem difficult to manage energy and cd sometimes.
Lacking build diversity.
Jalis can do what a regular tank can do but not as good.
Ventari is clunky and has no stunbreak (it kitten needs one, a stunbreak arround the tablet would be acceptable and fitting)
Shiro has no survability what so ever (give it a better base healing or stronger life steal)
Malyx was castrated in beta and needs its unique mechanic back.
Facet of nature should vary from legend to legend.
This things have to be considered from Anet, probably arent fixed yet because its a payload of wrongness that have to be fixed.

Mine after reading the patch not :

Core pets still need tons of change to be usefull and the impact of the real needed change (looking at the god d*mn utilities skill of the pet) should hardly have a real impact on balance while giving tremendous QoL to the ranger. The changes on this patch note were obviously directed at the PvP complain, I hope that next patch they will be directed at the general profession issue.
It could be possible that they screwed up some pets in the first place that they had to rework them conpletely or just need more time.
I hope for next update to have a spirit update and improvements in porcine, devourer, birds and general pet tracking improvements and cast times.

Ranger spirits next to them.
Ranger spirits are actually quite useful and used in many meta builds. Sun Spirit and Frost Spirit always have a place in dungeons, fractals and raids and I can’t think of a single ranger who doesn’t use them in those situations.
What I would like though is for the spirits to be mobile. I wish they would follow the ranger around like necro minions. That would be nice.
The main issue with spirits is their mobility, technically it would be awesome if the spirit is “bound” to the ranger as a pbaoe and the spirit activation is also pbaoe (this would give ranger a unique buff method to compete with herald meta. And stone and storm spirit arent used much.
The pet skills if vanilla pets are not so OP as the HoT pets and the AA and other skills barely hit targets, especially porcine and devourer need some love and wycerns cant hit anything with AA.

It wasnt the vest patch but i am here since launch and i have seen worse.
But i have to say i am dissapointed too because i wanted a buff to the unused vanilla pets especially devourer and porcine as also buffs for spirits or an entire rework of them, maybe next time.
The healing nerf didnt even nerf me so hard because i am using shamans gear with my trapper build. The CA cd increase was bad though.

The shield of courage nerf is a let down bit still viable. Merciful intervention should be a blink eitherway if an ally is in the area or not, if there is one it should have reduced cd.
Other thibgs are reasonable and/or good changes.

The nerf isnt that bad for PvE in other parts rangers even got a buff. The CA cd is the biggest nerf though lets see how it playes out.

Glint nerf was expected and the boonduration nerf is something we could live with, but there are just two minor buffs between a lot of nerfs. Shiro heal is poor and an improve would be appropriate. Unwavering avoidence wasnt an issue and ventari needs love and jalis bugfixes and buffs to. We need diversity.
We need a stunbreak in every legend, abbilities that work properly, remove cd on utilities and remove cost of weaponskills. Rev needs to be flexible like ele or engi, butnow its just blunt glint shiro gameplay without diversity in every gamemode.

I am using sword and shield in pve, the push from the shield gives you room and the sword blink let you pin down the next target.

This one and cast time on the last hit of the autoattack would be nice and i would prefer if we could cancel the #3 to get protection either way. The Aegis could be applied only for the full duration to intensify the defensive playstyle but doesnt force you to keep the fullduration if your party needs some dmg reduction fast.

And again a pvper QQ because they get trashed and want to see the class totally nerfed to the ground, you know because Anet still hesitates to really split pvp and pve so it would destroy pretty the hole class and not just in pvp.
Dh is balanced, it is countered by one half of the professions and is countering the other half.

Another weapon setup you may want to experiment with could be Axe/Torch.
This game has this thing called Combo Fields. Basically, when you use Torch 5, it sets down a Fire field with deals condition-based damage to anything that moves within. When when you throw your axes across them, or that they bounce across the fire field, your axes will themselves also deal fire damage.
The torch is not the obvious visceral “oh it makes so much sense to use this as a weapon” for the ranger, but it turns out being very useful, especially when you’re fending off multiple opponents in close quarters.
Especcially in the jungle a must for trash clear^^

The Herald has given the role of Boonsupport to the Rev which it wouldnt have without the Elite Spec, not complaining on that.
But i think and experienced a pretty dull playstyle with glint, especially in Group scenarios. The reason for that is the extreme passive gameplay with the facetts, which you normally activate once and leave them be except in rare cases were you use some skills, in cases were you take an active Combat role you Play an other legend which leaves the Boons dying.
Additionally is there the “Classmechanic” of Facett of Nature (IMO unfitting Name btw) which just gives us more mechanics to play passively as Boonbot and also do not have any interaction with other Legends which is basically like a Elementalist with a mechanic that does not interact with attunement.
My Proposal:
Change the facett of Nature. Change it to a toggle Skill which interacts with the legends skills and give them a supportive “Aspect”, the cost of this toggle are some upkeep points. In addition i would Remove the passiv part of the Glint skills basically to give them a more active Role in Combat. Depending on weather or not Facett of Nature (i would call it Facett of the Mist for a better suitable name) is active you would be a boonbot or not, it would give upkeep restrictions with this skill to balance it and you can play as a supportive role with other Legends too.
What do you think? How would you make Herald more engaging?

In PvE is momentarily the issue that Revs are Boonbots with no intensive use of utility skills because BOOOOONs.
They should change the elite specc mechanic in away it effects all legends in some way and not just cutting the boon duration because the only thing glint can do is to strong >>

Well i still would say riannoc legend with greatsword and a condi CC playstyle.
But the Razah one is pretty sweet established.
I did not worked out all skills, but invoking caladbolg as a weapon would be neat as an elite-upkeep.

I will start with the most common proposal for Ventari.

When the Revenant swaps to Ventari, the tablet is automatically summoned at the position he was when the swap happened.Associated Risks
Could be unfair to heal upon legend swap. To correct this, maybe the initial healing should be changed to Rejuvenation buff.
i dont think that the heal would change a lot, but agreeing with this one.

The Tablet stays with the revenant, the positioning skill sends Tabletshards to the Target location. Functionality aplies the same as before.
Goal:
Keeps the tablet near the rev for better self sustain to help focussing on group support.
Functioning:
The positioning of the tablet will be replaced by summoning /sending Tablet shards to the location with same functionality. All tablet channel abbilities apply to the shards and the tablet.
Risks:
Difficult to implement and balance (healing done, upkeep cost, number of shards etc.)

I would say additionally give greatswords more love in case of cd aftercast and some dmg and maybe even if not low hanging fruit, swap hornet sting and monarchs leap and give dagger #5 a teleport to the hit target, ranger are nimble fighters but only have 1 gap closer, 2 as a druid.
But otherwise you nailed it, nothing more to say.

The change with the rite of the great dwarve is good.
Ventari:
Keep staff as weapon, longbow would a nice idea for elite spec dough.
Summon of the tablet should be automatically on legendswap and the destruction of the tablet is automatically followed by the summoning of a new one.
The Tablet is connected to the rev with a teather to give the rev always the effects of the skulls weather or not he is in range of the tablet. Increase the range of the tablet to 360. Give a stunbreak to the condi remove. The Tablet leaves a Waterfield trail when it moves which slowly dissapears (similar to the speed of the tempest warhorn firefield).
Glint:
Change the Facet of Nature to a F2 skill which matches the legend, facet of nature could stay as glint F2.
I would change the skills of glint to a more active way. When you activate the skill you activate the active part (which costs energy -> not much maybe 5-10) and after that the passive effect triggers and when the effect expires the active part triggers again, ofcourse you can trigger the active early.
To make this work i would change the fireskill to something similar like smitersboon, a fiery explosion which applies the same conditions as before, plus explo finisher. Add heal to the revealskill.
This way Glint is not just a dull boonbot and its more difficult to keep all boons up. Additionally it would give more useful support.
Mallyx: The skills are good but they should apply more conditions (2-3 stacks more, 2-4 s more), fix the elite and done.
Shiro is good, energy expensive but good.

- #2 available for 5s (no energy costs). Explodes the tablet and heals nearby allies.
- No fragments.
Ventaris will(summon the tablet) should be a stunbreaker. When you swap to ventari you have no stunbreaker ready which is problematic in a oot of situations.
Additiobal add a stunbreak to purifying essence. It stunbreaks you wherever you are and allies near the tablet.

Okay, I know its been a while since HoT launched but I’d like to address an issue that’s been bugging me since the expansion launched. Revenant is not a complete profession. Although it is enough of a profession to be very playable it is by no means a complete profession and lags seriously behind the other 8. Although the revenant does have some excellent builds they are very few and lack real diversity between them. The Revenant really suffers from the same afflictions that really plagued the Paragon in Guild Wars 1 and I’d have hoped that Arena Net wouldn’t have made the same mistake with this profession being an expansion profession. So I’ll address the issues that I see with the profession and offer up suggestions that’ll help round out the profession to give real diversity that it desperately needs.
1. More Stun breaks: I know a few of you are typing away now going “WOAH WOAH WOAH! The revenant has it way too easy a time stun breaking!” And You are correct. However I’d like to point out that the only reason that the revenant can stun break so easily and frequently is because of Invocation. Empty Vessel is an absolutely amazing trait and without it the revenant has an extremely hard time dealing with CC. Outside of that they have Shiro, Jalis and Glint each having a stun break respectively. This is a major issue because this means that they pretty much have to run invocation in order to make any build effective. Each other profession has a minimum of 6 stun breaks with some having more. This means that the revenant has HALF the number of stun breaks that everyone else has(not including traits). With how limited the legends are each of them should by all rights have a stun break on them. This woudn’t improve the current builds that are currently out there much aside from Mallyx.
2. Second Ranged weapon: I think it goes without saying that everyone wants a second ranged weapon for Revenant. I DON’T agree that it should be part of an elite specialization since the revenant is so extremely limited as it is. They absolutely need a second one. Either a hybrid condi/power or pure condi weapon. As it stands the hammer does absolutely nothing for a condi build and the lack of a ranged weapon for condi seriously hurts the revenant.
3. More Skills/another legend: Again this needs to be base. Each legend should have 5 potential utility skills that they can use or they need another core legend. Either way they need something to offset the difference between them and other professions so they can absolutely keep up with them.
4. Second Underwater weapon and more usable Legends: Their spear is kind of a mess. Its trying to do too many things and falling very short of everything its trying to do. They also need more legends that are usable underwater especially considering you can’t separately set legends for land and water.
I think that’s it for the moment. I really do enjoy the profession but its just not a complete profession. I’d like to see more things added to the base profession to give it the versatility that the other professions absolutely do have at the moment. I’m looking forward to hearing from you and would love to hear from a dev, though I understand if you can’t. Do note that this criticism isn’t out of any sort of malice. I understand that you were under a pretty big time limit when HoT was supposed to be released. I do feel that these issues need to be addressed though so that it doesn’t stay in the same trap that the Paragon got stuck in. Thank you for your time.
First: This is my humble opinion.
Second: In some points you ate right in some points totally wrong.
Third: Yes rev needs a stunbreak in every legend (only one) so with the invocation you have three this is the number of stunbreaks every other class can optain at the same time.
For Ventari: I would say on project tranquility should be instant and castable without a stunbreak and the condiclear gets the stunbreak.
For Mallyx: Add it to banish enchantment.
For your Ranged Weapon: No. This could be implemented with a elite spec. I mean Guardian does not have even a single pure condi weapon and before HoT it had only a one dimentional ranged weapon with scepter.
For another Legend: No. Rev has 5 traitlines, one for each legend/weaponset and one for the profession itself. New Legend comes with new Elite Spec.
Another Underwaterweapon: Yes. I would say a Power Trident and a Condi spear. Spear is good but it wants to do to much at once and loses effectiveness.
Another Underwater Legend: Yes. Make jallis usable underwater for more versatility and Power builds or people who dont like shiro underwater.
What i think you missed: BUG FIXES, fix Hammer 4 and 3 together(your mist form jumps with the field but does not trigger the explo combo), sword confusion triggering etc etc.
We all know the bugs and these fixed mean a lot of QoL.

The second suggestion sounds good with duration of unblockable.
Cool would be if the sharpebing stone would apply bleeding every hit you make in a certain duration. E.g. 15s every attack does bleed and first 5s are unblockable.

I use arms, defense and berserker on condi, prec and vit.
Its pretty good in pve against mobs and in fractals. Havent tried it on wvw yet, but i recommend it to use.

Could Mace 3 block more than just one attack before it triggers? With the current amount of things flying around it’s entirely useless as a defense mechanism. Or at least give it a duration (.75-1 sec block) with the ability to trigger a counter attack while it’s still casting

I dislike how marks are all loaded onto the staff and none on other weapons. It makes the traits for them very one dimensional and the staff weapon very limited in function.
I wonder why they didnt made it like the symbols of guard. Like one AoE mark distributed over all weapons. It would make more sense definetly.

They should rework sword to be a hybrid weapon.
We have enough power based weapons.
Mace=power based high dps
Hammer=power based high dps
Greatsword=power based high dps
Scepter and Longbow=powerbased and focused on dps
Staff=Lootstick focused on triggering lootable mobs, no other uses
sword=? what? It has no role/niche to fill.
Not hybrid weapon, condi weapon. Guard has not a sibgle condi weapon even torch is hybrid. Change torch to full condi revanp sword to condi and scepter to hybrid. Addotionally i would say 2# of scepter to a seal like the most other weapons also have.
The projectiles on the number 3 of sword are actually pretty cool but i would make them unblockable, i mean the do not even count as projectiles in combos so this wouöd fit well.

You sprout wings and become a twinklefairy of peace and love. Your stance is Legendary Playah and your elite skill is Cupids Arrow which is a slow moving projectile that homes in on the targets heart and follows the target around, even through death. When struck the target becomes immobilized, stunned, dazed and feared for 10 seconds while Baby New Year does a hoolahoop dance in front of them.

The Revenant went through many changes from its original concept.
I believe its time to let go of some of the older design concepts that are still around, such as the Energy System, and the Legend Swap mechanics.
Legend Swap should be designed around frequent swapping like Engineer Kits, instead of the cooldown version we have today.
Cooldowns are all thats needed. the Energy system was an old concept that just never worked out. Yeah cool call back to GW1, but it doesnt even work like GW1 does.
While I agree that the revenant in its current state has issues, I’m not sure making the class a copy of the engineer is the way to go.
I do think Arenanet needs to sit down and do a proper class revamp taking into account many of the last minute changes the class experienced (weapon swaping, cooldown on skill even though energy is required, bugs). The class is now aproximately 6 months old which should give enough knowledge of what works and what doesn’t work.
Personally I would hate seeing things like legendswaping and the energy mechanic go. It’s what makes the class unique (and the lore works around this). Maybe differentiate between weapon and utility skills. Remove energy cost from weapon skills (have them work off of cds) and use energy cost for utility skills. Then let people freely choose utility skills from both selected legends (and ideally racial skills). Rebalance accordingly.
Agreeing with this one, racial skills should be the only swappable itilities in legends and should stay in the legend stance it is in. Ventari would be en exception in terms of the heal skill. If racial skills would cost energy idk but give them to rev anet.
Now the idea of giving the energy mechanic to utility is vetter than giving it to weapon skills, because it would distinguish rev from thief and with proper cost of energy it should be possible only to use a utility skill twice before reloading energy and elite should only be castable once before energy has to refill.
A lot of people conplain about the cd is there because balance issues and would make it eadier to do so but it conplifies a lot.

This is my PvE build for the jungle. It has good condition dmg good healing power and vitality. Because of the runes you are pretty fast in CAF and this goves you the most sustain you want. The utilities are there to compete with a lot of enemies at once and it has good cc too.
If you want to change to condition this is a good balanced build and worked very well for me.

For me it’s the exact oposite. I can understand that Jallis isn’t usable underwater because a) the skill which makes the blue road would translate weird and b) dwarfs don’t go underwater, they go undertables after a couple of drinks. And I don’t have any problems imagining the stone move underwater – unless there is a bug with targetable stuff underwater…
There are no ground targeted skills for underwater combat.
Mallyx has on default one, but i am not sure if it is groubdtargeted also underwater, i never played mallyx becasue i have a power build and i never was this long underwater (why would i sigh)
And for your comment about dwarves not underwater….
First: Mechanically: The road of jallis could just be PbAoE in front of the player and thus it would work mechanically wise, ventari is just difficult to handle water because there are 3dimendions the tablet could go and not only 2.

Please make jalis hammer work when it hits terrain/wall. If it’s too hard to code it, why not just make it an AOE pulse.
Please make all legends usable in water.
Please buff ventari and shiro. Especially phase traversal, I think the last nerf is too much.

Agreeing with you. At least make jallis aquatic. And reduce either cd or energy cost of phasetraversal, best in a way it is in a spot before and after this nerf (not to strong bit fine) and please improve the heal on shiro, either the life steal or initial.
