The real question is…
Tormented shield or Chaos shield :’<
- doranduck, 2016 on Lore in Raids
i think necro is going to get some powerful enemy debilitating skills. and ways to benefit players, with new mechanics.
chronomacer introduces alacrity, and implies mes unique thing is going to be cool down management for allies.
alacrity+quickness is a pretty strong combo.
Wait, that sounds like Revenant!
- doranduck, 2016 on Lore in Raids
Necro has very very little defense. I agree with spoj about the utilities and group support part.
In sPvP, you can spec any classes for pure DPS but each of them has their own ways to make an escape when things go wrong:
- War has Berserker Stance, Defy Pain (Trait), Rush and Whirlwind attack (gsword skill)
- Ele has Obsidian Flesh, Lightning Flash, FGS, Renewing Stamina
- Mesmer has Deceptive Evasion, Distortion, Blink, Decoy, (sometimes Portal)
- Ranger has Hunter’s Shot, Swoop, Counter Attack, Hornet Sting, Signet of Stone
- Engi has Slick Shoes or Elixir S, Gear Shield, Jump Shot
- Guardian, lol, I don’t even want to count, block, block, passive block, invuln, and another block!
- Thief has Stealth and Port
In comparison, Necro have Wurm and Spectral Walk but taking them meaning less power to Power Necro. DS is only a small part to mitigate the damage when the Necro is locked down in place but they cannot heal or cleanse the condi when in DS. The moment when they get out of DS to heal is the right moment people interrupt the necro and kill them. Necro has Fear, but it can be cleansed and the Mark can be dodged.
The entire mechanics of this class just seems insufficient.
- doranduck, 2016 on Lore in Raids
Thief has stealth, blink, immob and kitten loads of evade. Ele has boon, aura, passive heal and a multitude of instant cast.
Necro has crit… on low projectiles, DS which isn’t easily charged, few stun break and an elite that says “I am desperate”. Necro is the biggest baby to be carried around in PvP and WvW.

(edited by Iris Ng.9845)
I think having absolutely no utility or group buffs is bigger justification for being the best dps profession in PvE.
Maybe, but then Necro would need to have a serious nerf to their survivability to be balanced.
Not funny

Lingering Elements should be the baseline and Elemental Surge should take its spot. Give us a new GM trait please!

Mesmers are anything but trash, they just have the worlds worst profession mechanic.
Yeah, right, dude. For sure.
Bring Mesmer to Tequatl and Triple Wurm to enjoy its seldom glory in the open world. Mesmer hits the third hardest after ele and ranger.

OMG someone mentions Wolf’s Rain!!! It’s pretty kitten awesome.
As a matter of fact, all Mad House’s production is pretty well done.
All Isao Takahata’s artworks are heart wrenching masterpiece. If you love Grave of the Fireflies, you will enjoy the Tale of Kaguya Princess. Hayao Misayaki’s work is more lighthearted in comparison that you can finish it in one sitting. It’s hard to pick one from Studio Ghibli but the best in my book would be Kaguya Princess. It’s surreal…
- doranduck, 2016 on Lore in Raids
Example
- An enemy is going to kill your friend!
- You use taunt
- The enemy stop attacking your friend and goes after you, so your friend can move away and you efficiently saved his life.
That’s why it doesn’t need to be longer than 3 seconds. It’s not suppose to be used to tank something, it’s just another effect that can be used against the enemies and it’s up to us to find kitteneful way to use it (like i did with that example)
I might be wrong, but I believe that a stun, or a knockback could be used to achieve the same result.
Taunt may be unblockable.

This situation happened during one of my pug fractal. The LFG was Zerk, Ping leggings. Only until the second fractal did we realized that we have a Shoutbow (zerker?! I don’t even) with an absolute hate of Banners. No banners from her, as the matter of fact. The group respected her resolution and firmly asked her to swap to thief in the beginning of the third fractal. Even when I found the situation hilarious, I was quite astonished at how people treated each others out of respect without any actual mud slinging.
Maybe the “hate” isn’t even real…

Time to practice some sick jump to place your turrets in the air!
Hmm, I wonder. For Archie if I can get the turret on the edge of the brazier if I can avoid the floor condis and the fire condi in the brazier. If not maybe just jump off as I cast it and have it floating?
That will do. For Mossman, place it on top of his shack. When I place iDuelist there, he rarely aggro’d on them.
- doranduck, 2016 on Lore in Raids
1. Deep Freeze and Basilisk do not stack and they don’t apply successively either. Venom will apply the moment your attack successfully hits (aka. wasted if the enemy evades, block or reflect if ranged attack). In this case, Deep Freeze will overwrite the effect of Basilisk Venom.
4. In current dungeons, normal mobs can be obliterated so fast with mass blind and cleave so venom share won’t really see its use.
7. Not gonna happen, venom only affects one successful impact per charge.

Time to practice some sick jump to place your turrets in the air!
- doranduck, 2016 on Lore in Raids
Quick question. For immob and venom share. If i’m not mistaken you get 2 strikes of Immob from the venom right? Immob only stacks to 3 right? So wouldn’t sharing it only give basically 50% more duration to it, in other words an extra 2 seconds. Engi still Immob king!
Sure, but you can apply immob consecutively or spread it out to a group of mobs. You have 3 charges of immob (6 seconds) on 5 people after all.
Engi is good at immob as long as your turrets don’t get killed. Don’t forget that with the new change, turrets will take condi and critical hits. I doubt it lasts long in fractals without a special placement.

I think min-max is a bit wrong term here. It’s more like understanding the basics.
Understanding and execution are sometimes a bit far apart for some people
For example, one can run an awesome cookie cutter build and attempt a next-to-record strat but his rotation is a mess, and he couldn’t handle the aggro. On the other hand, some people running meta don’t really have a min-maxing mentality either.

Anyone think 66600 venom share thief will be so strong?
1.)Ice bow 5> basilisk venom (10cc)> one more cc> icebow 5 again to stun boss for 10+ secs
2.) sustain up to 10 stacks of might, depends of how many venom you equip
3.) 20 stack of vulnerability for 10 secs every 32 secs
4.) around 6000~9000 heal every 32 secs to whole party
5.) great chill duration, which is useful in fotm
6.) mass immobilize for mobs that love running
7.) leeching venom is very effective against husk/buildingIn addition, we have increased stealth duration and stealth while revive.
Not bad. But I will limit to only two venoms at a time while keeping your other signets.
1. Basilisk Venom only works on the opening attack, so you cannot technically control the CC chain. If two attack the same target, the petrification duration won’t stack. Boss won’t be stunned more than 5 secs. It appears that, boss will be stunned for 5 sec after his defiance bar is emptied, regardless of any means.
2. Won’t use it for Might. It’s a little bonus in a chaotic fight when PS war cannot keep up with his job or on object which you cannot crit.
3. Only good in sPvP.
4. Heal is meaningless against agony ticks when you cannot evade attacks in high fractals
5. 6. Agree. Nice quality of life.
7. Wasn’t effective against turrets. So I doubt it.

Shocking Aura from Tempest Defense is also a good bait. Most of the class only have 1 stun break anyways. Every good player know how to waste stun break before combo. (But since not everyone is that good, Fresh Air isn’t really easy to play).
For condi cleanse, it also depends on the situation. Are you gonna 1v1 or in team fight. Are you gonna have Ether Renewal or Cantrip? Are you gonna engage in that battle or be useful elsewhere? etc…
The current 66002 played by top players doesn’t need all that extra “sustain” nor “damage modifiers”.
Thieves are very very vulnerable to condi. If they can’t crit you, the fight will be an endurance battle not on their favor. On the other hand, if you can land any hits on thieves, it will be enough of a threat to force them to withdraw. I don’t deny the power creep of thief if the proposed change ships. But I think Anet’s philosophy has always been : If it looks too stronger than the others, it’s gonna get nerfed and rarely the other way around. So bringing the argument Thief is OP so Are We won’t be convincing enough.

Now I just remember how Ice Bow and Lightning Hammer were stupidly strong during the Strong Hold beta test. You can cleave (and blind) the NPCs so fast that it leaves almost no counter play. If I’m not wrong, Lord doesn’t have Unshakeable either.

In the end of the day, it’s up to ANET. If it’s too strong, it will see a nerf eventually.
The way it is now, it’s already nerfed.
EDIT: if you drop the virtues line you lose UC. Effectively traiding one 20% for another.
Then Anet already thinks it’s powerful.
UC only work pre-engagement or as randomly as passive proc. While symbol is a bonus required set up, smite as symbol is as brainless easy as it can get.
- doranduck, 2016 on Lore in Raids
Stone Heart will be a big issue for any classes relying on crit and passive procs.
FRE (Fire-Air-Earth) will have more sustain to counter thief, mesmer, power ranger. FRW will have more damage and/or sustain to counter condi heavy and cele classes. Tempest defense and Blinding Ash are so good against CC, on top of multiple access to burning. If anything, abusing the damage modifier of Tempest Defense to set up a Gale -> Dragon Tooth -> Phoenix -> Swarp to Water → Arcane/Lightning Flash → Swap to Air, hit the three instant cast will net you some serious damage.
If Bolt to the Heart and Air Training are to be still the same, S/x Fresh Air ele will be too OP in sPvP.
- doranduck, 2016 on Lore in Raids
Panic Strike, Entangle => Smite. Good game. Ring of Warding + Scepter immo => Smite, good game. They are all combo set up that you cannot simply dodge and walking out of. Hammer/Scepter/Focus Medi is popular because they are really strong.
I’m not saying it’s terrible, but sword has a lot more to offer. Double the mobility, more damage, projectile protection and with a trait you now have an immob that you missed before making you set up more spikes. Scepter is taken because of the lack of CC on other guardian weapons, not because of its awesome damage.
Also consider the line the symbol trait is in. To get it you would either lose absolute resolution and indomitable courage, making you more squishy and a bad stomper or you’d lose a fairly powerful blind from justice + no recharge and quite a lot of burning dmg.
Making smite a symbol would make it a more viable alternative and would make people actually choose which line they wanna invest in. Plus it’s no more crazy than giving thief perma stealth + dmg traits.
Smite is fairly spammable and a very strong cleave. If it’s a symbol, every deep guards will just pick it and ditch the virtue trait in a heart beat. I’ll cleave every bodies instead of trying to stomp. Not to mention Hammer is already a good CC weapon to deny all the res…

Maybe replace Empowering Might (weak low duration might with an ICD) with something like this:
Vengeful Arbiter: When you critical hit with a Sword equipped, Flashing Blade is recharged. Sword attacks deal 10% more damage. 8 second ICD. (Won’t trigger unless Flashing Blade is on CD)
Fun trait that would help with vuln stacking in PvE and offer engage mobility in WvW/PvP but only if already in combat with a sword. Sword is weak in PvP anyway
I’m looking at Mesmer stuff next.
Swapping empowering might would still make sword a bad choice in PvE since it’s in a line we won’t commonly use. I’m also pretty sure if we’d actually use that line for a hammer build, the constant symbol uptime would make spamming hammer 1 more powerful than having a sword in there at all.
If Smite is a Symbol, it could be too OP in sPvP.
No it wouldn’t, no one stays in smite ever and considering scepter auto never ever hits anything the scepter should get a buff in sPvP. Furthermore, since you’ll be able to immob without scepter now, sword becomes a better choice. (but that may be a topic for another forum)

I really don’t think adjusting the Scepter trait with might is the right idea. Even if it was 25 stacks of might on hit, you’d still have it completely removed from the group game as we have many options to work as a team and get might for everyone.
It could be decent in solo situations, but that’s really it.
As for Radiance Adept, I agree with the retal trait, but I do think the “on burning get fury” trait will be pretty nice in solo situations as it’s crit for both gs and whatever 1handed you’re using.
Fair, the might doesn’t help when you have blasts and fire fields. I was just trying to keep it in the spirit of the original trait. Either way I think we need some kind of offensive support interesting trait for both scepter and sword. Ideally I’d like the scepter trait to be better than Fiery Wrath so that if you use a scepter you actually have a better choice. I’m open to suggestions.
Zealous Scepter: Scepter skills while maintaining 5 stacks of might or more deal 10% more damage. Scepter skills recharge 20% faster.
Something like that would be nice and would actually compete with Fiery Wrath.
That’d do it.
Another guard and I were tossing around the idea of the trait making your smite a symbol, but 20% less cooldown would work too I think, more smites and no loss in damage while using scepter for the fiery wrath tradeoff, it’d be solid I think.
If Smite is a Symbol, it could be too OP in sPvP.
The same could be predicted with Fresh Air and Bolt to the Heart combo. Currently most Fresh Air Spike is instant cast and almost undodge-able. It is very easy to 50-0 anyone in spvp with Fresh Air. With 06660 setup, it could give a massive amount of damage and sustain for the traditional Fresh Air + Bolt to the Heart. That’s where I see its damage WILL get nerfed no matter what. I agree the nerf isn’t fair and all Air adept traits lack luster. But moving Bolt to the Heart back to Adept or Master won’t be as easy as you simply demand it. I’d rather ask for buff to the other Air Traits.

When the blue bar is full, you have to spam CC to “consume” it. Once the blue bar reaches zero, you can disable the boss.
Difference CC skills will consume the blue bar in different amounts. As tested on the Legendary Hero in Strong Hold, Deep Freeze is still the skill that impacts that defiance bar the most.
Then during HOT beta stress test, the personal story step, the boss has a mechanic that his defiance bar periodically becomes empty by itself for a very short amount of time (less than 2 sec) allowing you to disable him without burning the defiance bar.
For world boss like Wyvern, it has a massive defiance bar…
- doranduck, 2016 on Lore in Raids
I would like Ferocious Winds to be reworked as:
- Gain Ferocity bonus when being under effect of Regeneration.
Even more so, I’d be thrilled to see it swapping place with Renewing Stamina.
Also, if One With Air to grant Quickness (2s duration, 10s cd) instead of Super Speed (3s duration), it would be fantastic. Thief has Critical Haste for free so this is not OP at all :x
- doranduck, 2016 on Lore in Raids
I have a bad feeling that they will just increase mobs’ toughness multiplier to counter all the power creep. Straight damage will still be king in the core Tyria but lose its effect in the new maps.
- doranduck, 2016 on Lore in Raids
-snip-
Then would it be better if they make it like: Whenever a mesmer summons a Phantasm, copy all his boons to Phantasms.
- doranduck, 2016 on Lore in Raids
I wish for One With Air to give Quickness, instead of Super Speed, on a shorter duration, or a longer cd.
I wish for a complete rework of Ferocious Wind. Healing Power has a very low baseline value (1/10 of Toughness or Vitality). 7% of Healing Power is like next to nothing. So change that!
Earth is fine, I’m happy.
Water is fine, I’m happy.
Elemental Contingency should have a CD per attacker, or lower universal CD (5s).
Blinding Ash needs a cd per attacker.
One with Fire is really weak for a Master trait. Move “Grant Fire Aura by activating a signet” from Conjurer to One with Fire.
Lingering Elements … What does it do even?!!

- doranduck, 2016 on Lore in Raids
interupt heavy things dont impress me for pve, because monsters dont attack often/fast enough to be worthwhile
Currently, effects triggered on interrupt will still happen even if the interruption gets blocked with defiance (at least last time I tested they did). This means, using daze mantra and pistol5/sw4/focus4 can give easy 3s quickness every 5s! Also, interrupt = 3 stacks of vuln, daze = 5 stacks of vuln. While boss is stunned/not using skill you finish him off with Mental Torment and I’m expecting to start seeing insane burst shatters.
EDIT: 3xMW has 2.0 coefficient/entity. At full buffs, thats 12.5k each. With the new MT trait, thats 18.75k/each. With IP being baseline, thats 18.75k x 4, a 75k shatter… ?
Oh gosh, this is gonna get nerfed for sure. But quickness!!! I so desperately hope that they give Quickness instead of Super Speed to One with Air trait and ele would never have to complain about missing out Bolt to the Heart
And don’t forget sigil of Impact, giving you 10% more dmg with MW
- doranduck, 2016 on Lore in Raids
Mesmers have always been best at complaining about changes, maybe next to warrior, so I’m not gonna say anything about that :p some valid points were made, but its no major issue. I do have to adress to iris though, illusions don’t get affected by boons coming from the outside in terms of damage, so no, we aren’t gonna give 25 might to illusions to phantasms
Sandy,
According to the trait, whenever you summon illusion, you copy all your boons to nearby allies. I assume it’s kinda lackluster (for a GM) and misleading if a mesmer cannot copy his boons to the illusions. That’s where I think illusions are going to inherit boons from mesmer. It’s a new trait which probably doesn’t work with the current mechanics, as you have tested out. But who knows if they actually make it work in the future.
Pistol is so very nice to go with an interrupt-heavy build. I think mesmer looks more promising than it is currently.

A lot of QoL things of mesmer make themselves to baseline.
Glamour all had their recharge rate reduced as a baseline. Traits that are made baseline: Illusionary Persona, Illusionary Elasticity, Protective Mantras (gain extra armor when you cast a mantra), Phantasmal damage boost traits,Manipulation range.
http://i.imgur.com/IVzYWca.jpg
Illusionary Inspiration : transfer your 25 stacks of Might and long lasting fury onto Illusion. Kinda crazy.
45 second cooldown, useless? well.. not useless. but not that crazy
Let’s say, if a fight is short, 25 stacks of Might really cut off the ramping up time of mesmer dps by a lot. Your group stacks 25 Might and 1 minute of Fury before Belka. You immediately run in summon 2 Wardens in 7 seconds and a Swordman. Before the Might even expires, Belka is dead. 45 second cool down becomes a non issue.
Another example is at Lupi, you summon 2 swordmen and 1 warden before p1. The boon lasts long enough until you shatter them at the start of phase 2. Imagine if they have Aegis or Protection, they could survive for quite a bit so as to not dampen your DPS.
