Thief is invaluable for defiance management in all paths of HotW.
Guardian gives aegis for uninterrupted burn. It’s also great in HotW.
For the golem in CoE, just let Spire take the projectile shot. A staff ele can cleave down both protection and retal turrets just fine.

I’ve seen a good ranger can sub for warrior in low level dungeons and run time is hardly different. Plus ranger is a better ice bow user too.

To the OP , I don’t think casual runs/daily dungeon tour belong on the leaderboard.

So go and post a more competitive time then if you don’t want casual runs on the leaderboard holy kitten it’s not difficult.

I guess you can’t read what I wrote. This time is already beaten.

There is currently no records claimed for CM since the might/stability patch?

So a friend of mine, Atoi lets me in for his newly developed tool which is able to extract various information on monsters and skill database from the game files. After a long discussion with him, I find there are some useful information which ought to be shared

  • Race: the named category in which various monster are classified as. NPC, Monsters, Mini, etc. In general, they can be crit and applied with a condition.
  • Gadgets: Tequatl, Jormag, Turrets, Seed Pots, etc. In general, they cannot be crit.
    - Are players’ turrets Races or Gadgets? Atoi thinks they just turned the turrets into species with a Race. “However, given there are 45k+ species in the game, even if something has the same name/model like the cm and the engi turret, chances that its a completely different object is pretty high.”

All Races in the game: http://privatepaste.com/cbb6c4e18a

A couple of random mobs which were thrown in the test:

  • Mossman: (race) Norn, not Sons of Svanir
  • Bloomhunger: (race) Plant, possibly not a Nightmare
  • Nightmare Vine (the wurms in TA): (race) Nightmare, not Wurm or Plant
  • There are seven species with Races in Snow Blind fractal; 6 of them are Sons of Svanir and the last one being Wolves. Elemental Source is a Gadget and Atoi couldn’t find the coded name of the “Swirler” to verify its species.
  • A comprehensive list of mobs and their Races in Ascalonian Catacomb. Interestingly, there are two Trolls, with one being Graveling and the other Troll http://privatepaste.com/4fff824530
  • Most monsters in Honor of the Waves are Icebrood, not Sons of Svanir :’(
  • Kudu’s Power Suit is Bandit ^^

That’s all for now. All this great information is of courtesy of Atoi. I’m working to bridge between him and Wethospu to complete the Slaying Potion project. More will come soon.

This “issue” of casual runs being records is caused by two things: small playerbase and aggressive record resetting.

Playerbase can’t be really changed but we can alter the record resetting procedure. For example adding lots of extra time to “non-valid” records instead of invalidating them.

While we are waiting for an approver to have an official saying in this matter, this is what I think when I see this record.

“Oh wow, someone challenges the CM record of the mighty [SC]. Might they be the new [qT]?”

“Oh wow, they used the same strategy as the previous record, but it took twice amount of time, lol. Are they even serious?”

People who do the records have spent upwards to 12 hours of practice with a truly interesting and new strategy but their records get reset after every minor updates. Then there are others who just casually copy the same strategy to put their names on the list just because they submit firstly after the reset. And you call that a competition?

Why don’t you think other big names like qT, iV or rT didn’t vie for this empty spot? Because they respect the old record. They may haven’t found the newer and better strategy to beat it with an appropriate time. Look at the old Arah p3 records. I called that a “serious fighting”. It kept getting broken over and over not because one has better rng than others (though that counts) but every tweaks on the skips, splits and team fights reflect how much they invested in getting a better time. And they made sure to perfect it so that their competitor could never copy it and pull the better time. That is, to me, the sportsmanship of the record scene and that is what makes it fresh and fun to watch. If you ask me, why doesn’t [SC] repeat their records? I may guess it’s time and priority. It takes time to get people to practice. It takes motivation, (like “wahoo, we found the next best tactics!”) to see that practice to the end. It sets the priority to their projects. If there is nothing new to do, they might come back to re-do their past records.

In the end, I’m not a part of the rule makers nor in charge of the approval procedure. I’m not the right person to discuss about the rule. Wethospu has voiced his opinion already (and rightfully got ignored, lol). I’m here just to make a comment and I wholeheartedly agree to what Jerus posted above me <3

To OP, good luck and hope to see you again.

I wonder if necro will have more than 5 enemy-cleave restriction considering their attack will have a huge windup and scale up with the more enemies they cleave. Hmm… hmm…
On the other hand, the pulse rate of blinding utilities is not reliable when mobs have fast attack rate. From the look of the new mobs (i.e. dinosaurs) in the demo, maybe chill (and slow) will be a new form of protection.

yeah, i think enemies are going to have more skills, higher attack speed, more mobility.
focused bursts will probably require breaking the bar first.
essentially, im thinking those things alone will change the meta a decent amount.

I don’t personally care as much about meta as about interesting game play. If it is fun to play, we may be lucky to see a few new solo record here and there, along the line of what Sandy has achieved with his mesmer. We all play the meta for gold, but only fun play will last and inspire. Necro needs that face lift.

If anyone is going to post their fast-ish casual dungeon runs for unrestricted records, it’s gonna be a mess. The point of unrestricted rule set is to allow creativity to make the run as fast as possible. It needs to be interesting and innovative. For example, tactics like splitting, NPC porting, or double portal, etc. Unless your run is really unique, it’s easy to expect your own record to be beaten by other groups within a couple of days. Surely you can submit your own ‘record’ to fill the empty spot but at least please make it a good competition.

“Mesmer” and “overpowered” in one sentence. For PvE, I think not… Blurred Frenzy would be the most used skill, while Portal would be the most characteristic.

well what other game mode do you think this thread could be about, when it’s stuck in to the fractals and dungeons forum?

Mesmer has no skills that would be considered triviallizing an encounter, or namely “overpowered”. If you say Feedback can nuke Lupi then Wall of Reflection could do the same thing. Is it overpowered enough to guarantee a nerf (which happens to to skills such as FGS, ice bow, black powder or healing signet)? Nope, I think not.

Untraited Warden used to be borderline overpowered. Right now none of the mesmer skills are worth called overpowered, in PvE.

No need to be hypersensitive. I don’t intend to open any debate over every single game modes here.

The OP did not really go with skills that trivialize encounters. Because banner of discipline sure is not doing that.

Well can’t think of anything else on a warrior’s kit that is more OP than disc banner.

Phalanx Strength? faceroll max might is quite OP

if only phalanx str was a skill. But yea that trait is stupid OP. I kind of wished there was a more skillful interaction with PS than just button mashing. Imagine if Phalanx str work this way: Everytime you sucessfully crit, the enemy drops an “essence of strength” in a random area around it. If you “pick it up” before this essence lands on the ground, you and your party gain 3stacks of might. Kind of like draven axe in league. So SICK!!1

I’ll vote Sword #2 and #4 for mes. Most reliable offensive defensive skills we have. Block/Evade attacks and do 12k dmg, twice every ~10s, yes please. Sword 2/4 is pretty much the reason I can survive Subject Alpha and Lupi indefinitely without needing Energy sigils. In fact, I don’t even own any energy sigils on my mes…

I hope Anet doesn’t agree with you so that they would never nerf it. Blurred Frenzy is too good. Is it me or its evade counts as a distortion as well?

I just played a few Unranked matches as a thief with a friend who joined the game LAST MONTH (I’ve played since launch) and he was 2nd on the scoreboard behind me… Should I try ranked or something? (I’m Husrah, and he’s my friend Arkianos)

I got this matchup in Unranked. The higher MMR you are, the more likely you are to match with better players.

Engi: overpowered shot

I would prefer Net Shot to Overcharged Shot. Both have their uses and I love them dearly. But Net Shot is truly underrated in PvP. Then I also love Slick Shoes for its ridiculously long CC duration. Using them against the Golems in Aetherblade fractal or against the Kitty Golems are so much fun! And not forget about our Elixir elite <3

But the pun :o

You had me there! /o\

“Mesmer” and “overpowered” in one sentence. For PvE, I think not… Blurred Frenzy would be the most used skill, while Portal would be the most characteristic.

well what other game mode do you think this thread could be about, when it’s stuck in to the fractals and dungeons forum?

No need to be hypersensitive. I don’t intend to open any debate over every single game modes here.

Besides the part where you make it blatantly obvious that you have a burning urge to reference the e$port game mode.

well let me save you the time, mesmers aren’t overpowered there either. or WvW.

and nobody here in this subforum cares about helseth or sizer or whoever the randoms are who play pretend e$ports are.

Why are you so salty? Really? Just want to stir up an argument with me and then ostracize me with “this forum doesn’t need your opinions on… etc”? Oh the off topic….

How cute! Just stop reading between the lines.

Incinerator or Bifrost for a main ele

I made both Bifrost and Incinerator and still prefer Bifrost over Inci for it looks better with my ele. Do I get the most use out of them? Not really. I have all my weapons skinned differently for easy weapon swapping so they only get used 25% of the time. But they are there for picture time or any sort of costume setup. So go with the skin which you like to see most frequently.

Edit: Be assured that my words are expressed as literally as possible to avoid maha’s unnecessary OCD.

Go watch Song of the Sea! No excuse, really. Even if you are like me, watching it again and again just to listen to Lisa Hanningan’s singing voice. It’s a really good animation.

How’s about Saoirse The Selkie? More Norn-ic yet?

Speaking of SR, have you watched Byzantium starring Saoirse and Gemma? Hot!
