Greatsword is acceptable for Ascalon fractals, against the trash mobs. You have an option to cripple the warriors and save yourself a dodge away from their rush. Also Mind Stab removes 25 stacks of Might from the large mob which proves extremely dangerous to your squishy allies. (Vet Cultist defies Blind, in case anyone asks).

Maybe 10 or 15 out of a stack of champ chests. I never have problems with skill points though. Got about 2k in my main account. They drop quite freely from PvP reward chests. A friend of mine even has about … 15k.

Tazza dies really fast because she uses greatsword. Now if she was equipped with a focus, she would pull all the crap of you to the wall and cleave you to death with her Wardens. Furthermore, if she had Mantra of Pain and Distraction, good luck dodging those spammy attacks. Of course, her auto attack would two-shot any bullsh/it/ elementalists trying to burst her.

But then again, she dies because she uses Greatsword. Against 5 players. Bad mesmer deserves it.

The story is very compelling. I had no problems with the CGI and it does improve tremendously at season 2. But seriously, you need to stick through at least episode 4 for the plot to kick in.

Edit 2: Realize why I never see the problems with the CGI. The animation actually did a good job to maintain the aesthetics of the original manga from which it was based. It’s a bit of acquired taste.

Yesterday, when I tried to do my daily fractal level 50, it took forever to make a dent into the Champion Fire Shaman and Champion Ettin’s HP. Bosses suddenly feel harder because a longer, more exhausting fight means more chances to make mistake. My group mates just went range to semi-range. After four wipes, I just gave up.

Now it’s your turn to tell me your story of how the new patch impacts your usual runs.

Before my guild leader comes here and bashe me in the head for promoting a ‘bad DPS’ build like D/F Fresh Air (30/30/10/0/0), let me emphasize that much of an enjoyable experience playing as an ele in dungeons depend on the group composition and their competence. To put it simple;

1. If your group is a pre-made, optimized for speed run, you should have known that 1 ele with Persisting Flame is always required and the second ele can go min-maxing for either LH or FGS (25/10/10/25/0 or 10/25/10/25/0). If you love the min-maxing builds for damage, yet cannot survive long in the fight, look for a group (or a speedrun guild) that allows you to play the build.

2. If everyone knows what they do, yet your group is not optimized for a dungeon and you’re just in for a casual fast run, go identify the problem with the group composition. Does the dungeon require Aegis? Reflection? Condi cleanse? Blind? Interruption (CC)? And vice versa, is your group capable of pulling out these resources? More importantly, can you actively mitigate the damage instead of relying on others? Case in point:

• a. You’re in the Nightmare Vine room and the guard doesn’t provide enough stability, bring LH to blind the vines to prevent knock back.
• b. You’re in the lazer trap room in COE and you don’t have a guard for reflection. Either use Sand Storm or LH to blind the golems when they are lined of sight. You don’t need to trait for more charges of LH. It’s not the damage, it’s the utility which matters.

3. You’re using Pug roulette. Sometimes they are good, most of the times, they push you over the edge. All of the min maxing builds lose their efficiency here. My advice is to pick a trait setup which offers a variety of builds with a reasonably good damage, so you can pick up a focus when you need more defense or a staff for more crowd control. So either 30/30/10/0/0 or 30/10/10/20/0 works.

tl;dr: a good ele is not limited by one best build. He is limited by the group he plays with. Factoring the group composition and competence in mind, it’s easy to pinpoint the problems and adapt.

Cleave or no cleave. That is the question!

By the ways, stealth is a nice addition to mesmer.

I don’t know what is more depressing; elementalists being underestimated or overestimated.

S/F Fury Zerker is the max possible DPS in the game, maintains 100% 25 AoE might uptime and adds 100% AoE fury uptime. That is, 30(II VI XI)-0-10(VI)-0-30(II VIII XI).

Good luck with no cleave, long range or melee, high delay with cleave in fractals level 49-50. That playstyle won’t get you anywhere far away from the merciful protection of your guardian mate, not even mention to carry your team.

To OP, in the order of increasing (playing) difficulty in Fractals:
1. Guardian
2. Warrior
3. Mesmer
4. Necromancer
5. Thief
6. Engineer
7. Elementalist
8. Ranger

In the order of contributions to group in fractals:
1. Mesmer (Bloomie, Harpy, Grawl, Dredge, Snowblind, Mai, Molten boss, Aetherblade, Molten facility, Cliffside, Thaumanova)
2. Guardian (Bloomie, Harpy, Grawl, Dredge, Mossman, Snowblind, Mai, Molten boss, Molten facility)
3. Ele (Harpy, Grawl, Dredge, Urban battleground, Aetherblade, Cliffside, Thaumanova, Mai, Molten boss, Molten facility)
4. Thief (Harpy, Dredge, Cliffside, Aetherblade, Jade Maw)
5. Warrior: is good for CC and banners, not really amazing in any fractals, except for Mai
6. Necromancer/ Engi: spamming condi such as chill and blind is useful in certain cases. Not particularly outshines other classes.
7. Ranger: their pets are good tanker, against Diviner and Old Tom. Their sword roots them so, good rangers are extremely rare in fractals.

Sorry for holding the short end of the stick but today marks the three consecutive weeks that I have received absolutely nothing in my daily 50 reward chest. Yes, I’ve been doing at least 3 tiers a day as well and two of them give me nothing, one the same kitten ring over and over. Is it a stretch to ask for a better chance for rewards?

I’m also looking for another option for shoulder, gloves and boots. I want them to fit not too loose and relatively small in size.

I personally prefer mesmer. Ele is rather weak in the current meta but for PvE you can make it work if you want. Don’t listen to the people that say necro isnt worth it, necro is a strong enough class. Mesmer over necro is just my personal preference.

That being said theres a big patch coming on the 15th that is introducing new traits so that elementalist might suddenly become really good or the necro might suddenly get a few buffs that make them even better.

Excuse me, but doesn’t Distortion count as an evade, effectively avoiding the knockback/damage regardless of positioning?

If you use the trait Blurred Inscription, activate a signet when you are in the center of the aoe, you nullify that attack and absorb all the damage plus the knock back. Your party member standing next to you won’t get the knock back. (source: Sandy [rT], [Noob] mentor)
