Weth’s trolls are just too good for some to handle.
Poor taste trolls always get downvoted nicely.
This one is also pretty good.

Imo one thing not mentioned is at what cost to get this utility. We actually have to give and take. Ele guard have an easier time providing this utility while providing dps.
good point which make our utlities useless regarding team support
blink is must and gives nothinh to others
decoy – in some build also must and gives nothing
portal – yeee
null field – hardly used but good when being used
mantra of resolve – nice condi cleanse while ele and guards do it far better
feedback – hardly usedsry i was talking pvp not pve. i am clueless regarding pve
Sorry, I misread your intention.
For interrupts, add Melandru from Arah p4 to the list. Thief stripping defiance with mes power blocking his Empower animation makes him a piece of cake to melee. Definitely one of the encounters where interrupts actually are rewarding.
Rogers. I was hesitating putting it down because I think it’s a tall task for mesmer to peel defiant and interrupt by himself. If I dare to include thief, then people will probably discredit the mesmer and ask why not replacing the mesmer with ele or guard for extra damage?
Also the Irukanjis at fractal level 50 also require moderation with interruption as well.
You wrote the whole essay like a sensible person. You think everyone will read your wall of text?

I’m compiling all the wisp combinations in Swamp. Do I miss anything?
It’s fun and ironic when an ele waltzs in a fractal level 19 pug:
- Can someone res me if I’m gonna be down?
- A necro… Bye
/ele leave
To my pleasant surprise, the necro played with daggers, used wells effectively and not broke a single sweat against Mai Trin.
Here https://youtu.be/K4U4bUt-xlE is a version without getting hit. Some mistakes and weird stuff but does the concept seem ok?
I like it better than the first one. It’s about as exciting to watch as any solo that’s more or less kiting around a pillar, but the extra challenges you added (at level, no dodge, no damage) make it much more interesting. That, and I can’t even imagine the amount of solo AC farming you’ve been doing to get the troll RNG to play nice :P
One suggestion for the video, at the beginning where you list the conditions of the fight, add that it’s at level.
Here are two cleaner ones:
https://youtu.be/caotrVrY7v8 (very lucky)
http://youtu.be/ByNj4DX2FzA (no luck, more control)
Which one you guys prefer for reddit? I like the latter.
The second one. Can you change “About same level” to your necro’s actual level? And add some music please :p
Gosh, this is such a treat to my eyes.

Interruption: Bjarl (CoE)
Sure, can be useful here.
It is as useful as ele chaining icebow or guardian chaining sanctuary. But hey, what if you are tossed in a pug group as a mesmer and still be useful?
Chanters, Novice (Cliffside)
Hardly, you just toss up a bit of reflection, yank them into a wall and dps them into the ground real quick.
Try those Heart Seeker spammers at the Chest Seal (where groups stacks between two Flame Trap) with not enough Blind. Surely an ele can bring Sandstorm (60 second CD), a thief can exhaust all their initiatives for blind and deal kittenty DPS and engi has two pulses of Blind. But in between the waves when Blind expires, are you gonna tank all the hit? One Heartseeker will down your ele, four or five of them and your ele will be fully dead before pulling any heal himself.
Ascalonian Warriors, Monks, Cultists, Enchanter (Urban)
Same thing. LoS, yank into a wall, dps into the ground real quick.
You assume an average group can DPS them real quick but a Monk with 25 stacks of Might with Heal Area can one shot any unsuspecting thief/ele/guard before they can actually Blind. Same with Warrior’s Rush during channeling. Enchanters has his chaos armor which reflects and are able to one shot any staff eles. Cultists has Dancing Daggers and Heart Seekers. These are extremely dangerous when first pulling to behind the pillar or the tree. You cannot simply use Curtain without yanking them all over the place or risk not reflecting the Mage and Archer projectiles.
Dredge (Underground)
Aaaaand same thing. LoS, yank into a wall, dps into the ground real quick. There’s pretty much nothing dredge do that’s worth interrupting anyway other than the little gong banging.
The Veteran Dredge in the big cage which has the big HP pool has two attacks, the shockwave is reflectable, the PbAoE which knocks back and kills all of your wardens needs to be interrupted. A mesmer can hold aggros of some of the dredges on button with chaining wardens while the group can focus elsewhere.
Atherblade Striker, Thug, Inquest Golems (Aetherblade)
Just toss up reflects and you’re good for the striker. Thugs spam stability, so they’re not usually simple to interrupt. Golems are interruptable…but it’s not really all that important to do.
You cannot reflect the Static Field attack – deal 8k damage over 4 sec and stun 1 sec when crossing them. You interrupt the Warbanner animation so that it doesn’t deal damage and the Thugs won’t have Stability. In a group with not enough Stability – since it’s pulsing stacks instead of permanent now- it is imperative to interrupt the golem’s head charge spin or your group will get knocked all over the place. Interrupt it once and group has plenty of time to DPS it down before the skill is up again. Even better, your Daze is an AoE! The pull can be reflected, however.
Baron Von Scrufflebutt (Uncategorized)
I suppose you could interrupt him. Alternatively, you could just dps it down real quick like normal.
You only need to interrupt his unblockable projectile attack twice (before and after all of them wake up) and whoever is doing the DPS doesn’t have to care about interrupting themselves to dodge that attack. Icebow, 100 blades, Meteor Shower are those skills having long channeling time.
Champion Abomination (Arah path 2)
This is really the only single instance in all of PvE that’s actually really important to get interrupts on.
Really? Don’t you argue that two ele can ice bow and burst it down in one single burst before it has a chance to stomp? Glad you agree though.
Legendary Jotun (Arah path 1) to name a few.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t this the guy you just spam reflects on until it dies?
So you set up two wardens perfectly to reflect his projectiles and ignore him when he summons lava font to kill them? In the process, some melee party members get killed as well. And then, condi cleanse or burn to death.
Condi cleanse: at Cliffside
Meh. You shouldn’t be getting hit by the wells much anyway, and the condies are very short duration there. The vuln stacks from the other guys are reflectable.
All melee classes will get condis from the wells. The damaging condi expires fast so it’s fine to skirt around but warrior surely doesn’t want to see all his greatsword hit becomes a glancing blow and generates no might. In a meta group, everyone will not be happy. Condi cleanse for people who pick up the hammer or accidentally re-pick it up. 1 minute of Poison and Burning says hello. Also, it is to remove the Burning when stacking at the chest seal.
at Aetherblade, at Mai Trin,
Yep, condie cleanses are important here.
at Mage Crusher/Hunter (Arah path 3),
Yeah, cleanses are handy here, but honestly an ele with healing rain does a better job.
The poison is not the point, the immobilization is what kills people. Also Healing Rain has long CD and you want your ele to focus on DPS when the mesmer does his job as a team support.
at Bloomhunger, etc.
See comment about mage crusher.
Because people will never bother evading or blocking his Poison attack and guess what? 3K damage from Poison alone. That is like 30% HP of any zerker ele or guard which force them out of rotation. Experienced group doesn’t get the poison here, so it can be swapped out for other utilities
Realistically…almost all PvE instances are better completed by not interrupting things and instead yanking them into a wall and dpsing them down. Where condie cleanse is required it’s nice to have…but your ele/guardian does plenty of condie cleanse without you.
I can’t believe you! My answer to each point is the bolded ones.
My opinion is the mesmer is a good asset to the group when playing his strength right instead of fully relying on others. If you are to be a deadweight, why not playing guardian or ele instead of mesmer? If you are playing mesmer, why not giving your best support instead of asking others to do your job. Don’t you feel good when your ele or guard can comfortably DPS without investing too much into surviving?
I do play ele. Without proper interruption, I have to dodge more instead of DPS, think twice before using Meteor Shower, sacrifice my precious Signet of Fire, bring Arcane Shield, lower the CD of Glyph of Storm instead of taking Tempest Defense or bring Lightning Hammer for extra Blind even when I play staff. Without condi cleanse, I have to bring Ether’s Reneweal, meaning even less Blast, less Fury to the group.
I also play guardian. With all the pressure on my support because the mesmer decides to slack off, I have to sacrifice Bane Signet for an extra Stability, Purging Flames or Retreat. Sometimes I have to use the Hammer for more crowd control over burst DPS of greatsword.
And these two classes have way way way better DPS than the mesmer, who thinks he can tag a group to DPS his way out.

Mesmer is the best at interruption and condi cleanse :<
The prejudice can be ironic sometimes. This conversation happened when a pug for level baby 19 fractal was formed.
Does anyone have a comprehensive list/video of all mesmer blink/portal skips?
Not everything there is, but it works for most troublesome cases.
Every time I take my engi to pug CoE, I always end up raging so hard at Subject Alpha.
1. At Cliffside, I made a thief salty as I constantly gave the group a portal lift. He was trying to run ahead to show off his Infiltrator’s Shot trick but always ended up behind :p
2. Pug reacts to “No underwater Mossie”.
3. When guild chat gets interesting in the middle of a pug, I grinned so hard.
I like how you took the time to cover names in the chat window in the first ss, eventhough everyones name is still visible above their chars and in the fractal transit popup. lol
Normally I wouldn’t censor when there is no obscenity. I guess taking an extra step is kinda redundant. My bad!

Why are you using Shake it Off, Signet of Stamina AND Rampage in the third picture? how many conditions do you expect to cleanse o.O
Heat room solo setup. 2 Immobilization, I suppose?
Didn’t know heat room was located inside Arah.
If it’s for the immob you pretty much dont really need any condi cleanse on warrior, and if you really want to play safe 1 condi cleanse is enough, or trait for brawler’s recovery since you’re the second warrior in the group anywaysAre you an Arah police for real?
Because I took three loading screen from LA to Arah, swapped traits while autorun and got into combat in the process?
Because that pug group had nothing to do with the fact that my war camps LA/fractal all the time and I swapped to her for Arah on a whim.
And about 2 condi cleanse, I just use what is the easiest and fastest way so I can get my war out of combat as soon as possible before I swapped characters.
Sorry for not playing the perfect way you are assuming.
#nitpicking
I don’t really understand the third picture.
Assumed you were complaining about pugs being bad, so I commented about your utilities because they weren’t really showing you doing better yourself. Oh wow!Sorry if I misunderstood it
Eh, no? I said “guild chat gets interesting” and my pug didn’t even start the path yet, why would I judge them? o.O
Some bosses don’t give a kitten about Condi. So make sure to swap to Power build when and where it happens.
Alphard, Crystalline Entity, Subject Alpha, both end bosses of Underground Facility fractals.

Not all players are Sesshi/Abe/Element/Purple Miku/Wethospu(do I have to list them all?) and well, we can’t play at that level (yes We, I’m not that great as anyone who has played with me will attest to, just apparently a good enough attitude to get invites back).
How did you manage to miss Goku/Sanderinoa/Robyn/Austin/Deathly/Dub and many more?? :’(
Maybe not Dub since he quits xD
True, you’re right. Much better synopsis.
Btw, play with me again Iris!
I promise I won’t bite as hard this time
Everytime I invite you, You’re always AFK in the Lalaland XD
That is way too simplified, Jer Jer D;
3 pillars of any groups:
1. Offensive buff: Might + Fury + Vulnerability, then stats buff: banners, spotter, spirits
2. Support and Control: Reflect/Projectile block, Blind, Condi Cleanse, Defiance Management, Movement Control (Immob/Cripple/Chill/Block), Stability, Aegis, Distortion
3. Skip: Stealth, Portal, Blink, Swiftness, Invuln, etc.
Then do your best to bring your personal DPS up to par with proper gears, traits and rotations.
Alright, if you look at the following diagram please,
- When you reset, one or both (if not bugged out) seals will reset to the original numbers of chanters (2 per seal). If it is still bugged out, only South Seal will reset while the North Seal still get swarmed.
- Have some stealth and skip through North seal to your LOS spot.
- Thin out some of them, while your group is still pulling the aggro (preferably the guardian), the engi can run out and knock the North Seal. If necessary, stealth yourself with Elixir S before hitting the seal. Hitting the seal will draw all the aggro on you immediately so have some measure for negating the damage. Alternatively, the mesmer can Mass Invi you for some stealth.
- The South Seal is annoying in a way that the chanter will follow you through until you are properly out of line of sight. It is harder to shake off their aggro. One way to pass it is to have the mesmer place a portal at the LOS spot, run to the South Seal, after hitting it, pull the chanter to the far corner, then use portal to travel back. That way, the Chanter will not follow you and disrupt the pull at North side.
- If you pull the chanter at the South Seal by mistake, make sure to stealth yourself, then stay LOS him for a bit until he completely leashes. It takes time so be patient, or he will never leash.
- If it’s still too hard, have one member always draw aggro of the chanter in South Seal (kite around, block, evade, etc) and relay the role to whoever comes to hit the seal. Have two others control the aggro of the North Seal.

The engine/server can’t handle those corner cases very well. I guess because of latency. So sometimes his ranged attack comes through wall, and well, sometimes stuff like that happens.
Anyways I kind of gave up after that 1:36 so didn’t want to bother using Doom. Lots of skills are tricky to use since they require line of sight.
Is it me or you can (actually) jump over the troll’s shock wave after he makes the jump?
Anyhow, wanna do a Mai Trin solo real soon? No damage taken challenge
Now I understand why Nat is so rich :’<
I personally feel this games combat is more entertaining to watch when you are fluidly avoiding attacks. So absorbing damage in death shroud doesnt lend to that. Also i hate being forced to do that while playing necro. Especially as it doesnt work so well on lvl 80 stuff because they usually have additional effects on the attacks like conditions or CC or so much damage that you lose most of your lifeforce in one hit.
Here https://youtu.be/K4U4bUt-xlE is a version without getting hit. Some mistakes and weird stuff but does the concept seem ok?
This is much more like you! Much much better and more entertaining. At 1:36, how did you avoid the damage??? :O I love how you flash DS for stunbreak but why no Terror for peeling defiance? Perhaps it’s too slow a projectile for LoS?
Post edit: Any plan to reddit it?
(edited by IrisTheCasual.3742)
I think you can start with mesmer or guardian. There are many good guides lying aroundin the forum. Some guide writers even have youtube or twitch channels to follow. Watching how they do stuffs is a good starting point.
I usually expect a few things from my party
- Know their class and play their strength:
For example: Don’t play a healing build on ele when the group needs burst. Don’t play a condi spec against structure or bosses immune to condis. Don’t play a condi mesmer/guard in a reflect-heavy encounter.
- Know their short-coming and take advice – it also means being flexible out of metabattle.com:
For example: If they cannot dodge, stay at max melee or semi range. If they need to survive, bring a extra soft CC on top of blind. If there are tricks shown to them, learn it. If there is a question, please do ask – that is how knowledge is shared and people improve.
- Knowing the “meta” strategy is good, but learning the encounter is better:
For example: Don’t go and curse someone for screwing up the meta stealth trick at Mai Trin which makes them vulnerable to her attack. If they cannot counter Mai Trin without the shenanigan copycat setup then they deserve the pain. Likewise, calling people noob for not cheesing Lupi and Mossman doesn’t make the person a worthy party member.
- Respect the LFG and the people within the group. Don’t be prude and abusive; keep their ego in check. I have enough patience to carry a group of beginners on 2-3 hours in a single Arah path. I just can’t stand some people’s passive aggressiveness for a minute even if they are super skilled and can do some amazing record-level speed run.
I mostly pug, so I don’t expect anymore than these.
(edited by IrisTheCasual.3742)
Things I like:
- 3-target Daze
- Blast finisher on a Staff
- More evades when traveling through the Mist
- Increase a lot of damage on Sword
- Phase Traversal will work more like JI → better mobility
- More damage modifier!!!
- More crit chance
Revenant looks pretty bad kitten now ;o
Almost soloed AC story Cave Troll on level 33 necromancer with kittenty gear without dodges or health loss. Then I totally messed up when Troll had like 0.1% health (dodged instead of DS). He died and I couldn’t even retry.
Could any experienced necromancer comment whether this would be a worthy solo or if I’m doing something horribly wrong? I would rather not to fight the RNG just to embarrass myself.
If you wonder why I didn’t use minions that’s because they bug him. So you can (almost) afk kill him.
I say, Nah! It’s too boring to watch :<
What did we just talk about this?
gasp being snarky about this, you, of all people! You show consistency that is unmatched by most guides out there. I don’t think I’ve ever seen words like “about, I think, I’m not sure, but…” on gw2dungeons.net.
I was pondering whether to put /s at end but I decided it’s more fun this way.
But yeah, it’s slightly annoying to actually test stuff and document them, just so it can be ignored again and again. In this case, the information about Archdiviner’s attacks has been there for a like a year.
A great way to spite you is to debunk one of mechanics posted in gw2dungeons.net, PM it to you and have you re-test it all over.
Ranger wins out in cleave and stationary/immobilized targets. Guard is better against single, moving target. However, no matter the builds, reflect still surpasses both as an offensive and defensive mechanism. So don’t forget to slot another axe offhand when reflect matters.
Hey OP,
You have me interested. Just a note for your next video, will you consider to summarize your major points in a caption format. I admit that I have a hard time following what you said, plus the accent (I’m sorry)!
Amazing at every details. A job well done, indeed!
Oh, man! That’s gonna be so much fun! I can’t wait to spam “LF2 Cleric Guard then gtg” for an hour before I get frustrated and go back to SW!
Just remember kids, if you can beat the “challenging group content” with any group composition, then it’s not challenging. This content is not for the casuals who farm SW to buy shiny skins, this content is to challenge people to really put head-to-paper to figure out optimal compositions, optimal load-outs, and optimal strategies.
Honestly, if ANet does this right, the very idea of pubbing this “challenging group content” will be laughable unless you get some seriously epic pubs.
It’s probably going to be “meta” for the first few months as I believe it is meant as a crutch. When people figure out all the details of said raid, berserker/dps gear will slowly transition itself back to meta. Unless of course they nerf the kitten out of the base heal on water field blasts and made it scale incredibly well with healing power and force party wide degen mechanics.
Maybe! It’s hard to say. Short of a toughness or vitality check (ie. Boss does exactly 30k damage at some point and its fully unavoidable), there may not be a way to “force” the efficacy of tanky gear. That said, I certainly wouldn’t mind some mechanics that at a minimum make us think of using it.
If anything that forces a frontline/midline/backline composition, it would be cool to see the challenge brings organization to the next level. I agree with you that if it’s raid, don’t expect to pug it and we have to fully invest in a certain role to make it work. However people are geared for this role is an entirely different thing.
Be it Nomad or Cleric or Soldier, or Shout Heal, or Altrustic Healing or Boon Share, or soft CC or Vampirism Tank or what not. Everything is on the table so why not using them.
If guilds like TTS can beat the content out of the box then it won’t be challenging.
If DnT can beat the content out of the box then it won’t be challenging.
(we’re just repeating that comment and slotting random stuff in right?)
Oh, you! Don’t you start
If BANK can beat the content out of the box then it won’t be challenging.
Back in the days, people desperately tried to taxi into a TTS map to get their wurm loots and achievements. I’m sure if any guilds cannot solve their “our only limit is our number”, TTS is their practical solution.
@ Jer Jer: or… TTS
Well, then you need to practice hard so that 8 or 12 can make up the work of 15. It’s not like we have never lowmanned a content before.
True. But it doesn’t mean it’s a good design. At the expansion, I will probably be able to get 12 good players to do that with me in my guild. 6-8 months after the expansion? I probably won’t be able to do any day of the week, or I’ll have to train some new people to get better. And I’m in a 500 person guild.
Imagine what will be the situation for most guild. Most of them don’t have access to either 15 decent players or 8-12 good players.
I’m want the content to be hard, not that the creation of a party or team be hard. Again. Personally, I don’t think this will be much of an obstacle since I’m in a big guild. But that’s not the case for everybody.
History proves that it always happens after a challenge is learned – or nerfed, for all that matter.
Edit, even a guild of 20-30 people can do Teq comfortably now without the need of filling the whole map. Then ANet never explicitly tells for how many people was that boss designed. Is he still a challenging world boss? Perhaps, to several new players who have never fought him hundreds of times.
Not really. Teq was never really challenging. Spreading basic knowledge was the difficult part. Soloing Lupi legit is still a good challenge, same with Liadri legit. If the difficulty of a content is just to have some knowledge of it, it’s not really challenging. If it’s the execution that is challenging, then it will stay challenging over time.
I’m not saying that people won’t have an easier time in the long run, but it will stay a challenge. Reacting quickly is challenging even if it’s been 100 times. Now if you can predict when you gonna need to react quickly, it’s another story.
And Lupi is supposed to be a 5-man content >.>
Like High Priest of Arah? Or Breach bosses? Or Vinewrath?
If 12 people can do it, at least initially, it will be a failure if the goal is “challenging.”

What I’m more curious about is the cut off after which the boss starts to scale up. So far, open world bosses only start to scale up when more than 5 players engage them. Living story bosses/mechanics scale up when more than 1 player engage them… Things like that would identify whether the boss is difficult mechanically or artificially.

Mai Trin becomes exponentially easier everytime a teammate dies.
And less boring. A solution for anyone who finds this fight only long because the need of kiting.
You called someone mentally challenged for using an internet meme. It’s rude enough to warrant a removal. Stay classy.
I don’t give a kitten about “prestige” and about how other people [I don’t know] perceive me in game based on what I’m currently wearing. I think all the legendaries I have don’t mean kitten, I simply grinded for them because I wanted the skins really badly, and I’m embarassed when people express admiration at the “dedication” I put on them – likewise, I feel ashamed when they shoot me down by saying stuff like “you have too much time on your hands” or “ugggh, eternity, it’s so common, EVERYONE has it!”. I am flattered, though, when people compliment me on my dyes choice, my fitting character theme or any skillful use of cheap armors/weapons.
I want to look cool, but I do it for myself (and my friends’ approval, I suppose). I want to wear cool stuff, stuff I deem cool.
Got a problem with that?Yeah, but you can denounce
worldproblems like China making imitations of Louis Vuitton bags. Some people will always care about the prestige that they worked hard for and paid tons of money on can be bought cheaply by others. If anything it’s a demonstration of the stupidity of people. A piece of clothing costing thousands of dollars when the materials and labor to make it don’t come close to approaching said value shows what sheep people are.
People who live and die by brand deserve to be scammed.
So you’re saying you never make an initial judgement on someone based on their appearance? You see someone dressed in basketball shorts, a t-shirt and flip flops and a guy dressed in a tailored suit and think they’re likely the same type of person? if so you’re a saint.
There’s a reason you go to a job interview in formal attire. There’s a reason most businesses require their employees (or at least those that deal with clients) to be clean shaven (this being either totally clean or at least well groomed, no big bushy beards).
First impressions mean something. Showing that you have something overly expensive usually gives the impression that you have money and style, or at the very least that you understand the impression it does have on some people. It’s a sign of social awareness.
I think he missed my sarcasm tone.
Also, there are actually many little things involved in defining style and class through objects. A pig wearing Chanel doesn’t make it look any more fashionable. That’s where the prestige falls flat. In your example, it would be comparing a department store bought Giorgio Armani labeled suit or a bespoke tailored suit. The former gives an illusion of prestige but not necessarily as good as the latter.
