LOL
I have 5 different toons and WvW regularly, both roaming and zerging … there is not a single toon I have where I cannot keep at least 25% movement speed up (and with many, perma-swiftness at +33% speed). The only thing my suggestion would provide is my NOT having to (for example) endlessly switch kits on my engineer to achieve it, or the constant weapon flipping on my warrior, or the … ect. The suggestion of an OUT-of-combat speed booster option provides ONLY convenience, and zero in-combat advantage.
(edited by Ision.3207)
Hey there Anet folks, suggestion:
How about adding a +25% Speed Boost (out of combat ONLY) item in the Gem store? Perhaps 1 stack of 25 1-hour boosters for 400 Gems, or something along those lines.
For many classes it will eliminate the mind-numbing tedium of having to use all the gimmicky and carpal tunnel inducing acrobatics we players go through to maintain some sort of speed boost when traveling while out of combat. And as an out-of-combat only item, it will NOT affect the outcome of any WvW or PvP combat, since once your toon is in-combat, his movement speed is solely determined by his trait and gear choices.
I’ll bet something like this would be a huge seller, and you guys would make a nice profit. And I feel pretty confident that a very large percentage of your player base would be very grateful. Win-Win.
Thank you.
(edited by Ision.3207)
Thanks, DiogoSilva, you made many valid points. Most especially in regards to the manner in which this game was marketed (for years!) as opposed to the reality of a heavy grind and the introduction of stat based vertical progression.
And this was a nice summary, when you said: “You can have repeatable content that is FUN. Devs can also take inspiration from community-generated content that exists in some other games, not to mention that MMOs as a whole are much better enjoyed when they have tight community-driven tools. End-game must rely on repeatable content, but you can have fun and exciting repeatable content, or mindless grinding. GW2’s devs have clearly, clearly expressed that they wanted to achieve the former, but currently, GW2 has degenerated to the later situation.”
Fortunately for me, I have a great deal of fun in WvW and PvP, so the game still offers solid value for my cartoon-game entertainment needs.
BTW, don’t bother engaging any of the “self-appointed” spokesmen for Anet that pollute nearly every single thread. These types are easily spotted because they spend most of their time lecturing others on nearly every topic imaginable. Always at pains to give the impression they actually know why the game company’s developers made certain decisions or changes, truth be told, they haven’t a clue. Unfortunately, these types have become more common in MMO forums; usually polite, but always pretentious, these creeps are nothing more than dedicated reverse-trolls. However, you do need to be careful when engaging them, because reverse trolls adore the report option.

Actually, each and every class has more than one build for PvP .
However, there will always be an optimal build and trait set-up for PvP … always ….. ALWAYS.
And the very second that Devs change certain weapon stats and skills to make them more “viable” (as people like to say) … a whole new optimal build/trait set-up will emerge, and that new one will then become the most often used.
Simply put, in high level PvP where one encounters the most skilled players, you are also going to have to narrow your builds to the 1 or 2 most optimal due to the quality of your opponents. This is NOT a failure on the part of the game developers, but simply the “nature of the beast” so to speak.
This is not to say that some (NOT ALL) classes tend to be far more pigeonholed than others, and that Anet should “free” them up a bit so players can diversify more. But you have to remember that balancing for PvP is very difficult.
Note that in WvW, as opposed to PvP, each and every class has far more “viable” builds and weapon choices due to the nature of that aspect of the game. And then there is PvE, where once again, your choices and builds expand even further than in WvW.
PS: Try and remember that I did say, "This is not to say that some (NOT ALL) classes tend to be far more pigeonholed than others, and that Anet should “free” them up a bit so players can diversify more. ". LOL

Challenging content with unique rewards for group sizes > 5? Yes please.
Anything to do with ascended gear or agony resistance? No thanks.
Very well said!
I have always wanted a 10 man raid/dungeon in this game … BUT, after they introduced ascended gear, I became very fearful of them actually implementing it. I can hear the WoW teens crying already, “but it’s the hardest dungeon in the game, it should have gear rewards with better stats than everyone elses gear!” —- LOL
But yes, as long as the rewards/loot are only new and wonderful skins for our weapons and armor: HELL yeah!
rofl … unreal …
Oh lord, no consumables in WvW; is that the solution (lol)? …. hmm, I wonder what classes would benefit the most from this, and which ones would suffer the most ? Tell ya what; not only no consumables, but also, no Runes, no Sigils and no Elite skills either … ;-)
ahahahahahaha
Christ, ya just gotta love it … whenever some noob thinks he has the ultimate build but then encounters someone with a perfect counter-build —- the noob screams bloody murder about X being OP, and wants something nerfed … LOL.
I guess QQing is easier than changing your build and learning to adapt/play better.
(edited by Ision.3207)
Its very overpowered.
L2P
There is nothing, and I mean nothing over-powered about Lemongrass soup in a build.
Yes, it is extremely helpful in a defensively focused build. However, this little sweetie requires a mandatory Melandru x6 Rune set up in order to reach full potential. As a result, you give up a TON of options (and dps), in order to run it. And yes, I do run the lemongrass soup on one of my 3 toons; but trust me, I had to accept a significant trade off of much lower dps to do so. On my other 2 toons, the handicap to my build was far too high to run the lemongrass/melandru combo. The bottom line is, it is no more, nor no less, over-powered than many other food/rune combos out there.
Honestly, anyone hyper-ventilating and QQing over this food/rune combo as the so-called reason they are being stomped in WvW is looking in the wrong area. The QQing sounds far more like a significant L2P issue, than anything else.

Why is the stealth thief class is ‘playing the victim game’?
In other word, why is the stealth thief class is acting like a ‘helpless victim’’?‘How much more ’stealth’ blood do you want in your hands’?
’How much more unreasonable deaths do you want?
’How much more lives do you want to take advantage of?
’How much more Freedom do you want?
’How much more Success do you want?
’How much more Power do you want? What is your goal?
You already have everything; you are the only class who is rewarded with the best designs; skills, utilities, mechanics, mobilities, attributes, defense, offense and the best traits in the game; once again, not forgetting your best reward yet; Stealth.
You’re the ‘apple of the eye’ of the entire class, and the game architectural, and infrastructure.
No Class Will Ever Do What You Do.

Are you your ‘Worst Enemy’?
What is your ‘pay-of’ for ‘playing the victim game’?

OP, I am person that believes that stealth as a mechanic, does far and away more harm than good in any PvP environment (especially WvW); and was sorely disappointed when I learned that it was to be included in GW2.
That said, do you have any idea how your original post sounds to any educated mature adult? Please, re-read your own post out loud to yourself, and ask: do I sound like a rational adult, or do I sound like a hysterical child throwing a tantrum? Or better yet, share that piece of writing you just did with your parents or an older friend and ask them their opinion.
Hey folks,
Question:
Based on the passive effect, and ONLY the passive; at what point in healing power would slotting the Signet of the Wild be preferable to slotting the Signet of Stone?
300? less? more?
And before someone says it, let me say it first, “Well that depends on whether you need more vitality or more toughness.” — of course … but the question is in general, so simply assume that you feel you need a little bit of both, but can choose only one.
Thanks
(edited by Ision.3207)
OP, — Sorry, but no …. hell NO.
And trust me, you would be hard pressed to find a person that is more critical of many aspects of GW2 than myself. Most especially over what this game has evolved into, as opposed to what it what marketed as. That said, there is simply too much that is still “right” about this game to make the over-the-top claim that, “… but there’s a ton of stuff wrong with the game so much so that we don’t think they’ll ever make a dent in it.”
That is utter nonsense.
As a former player of WoW and LotRO, I can assure you, that this games problems and short-comings don’t even come close to those 2 prestigious games. And that is already mostly true after only 9 months of release.
As to the video you linked to, all I can say is: LOL
But to take that video seriously, you got to be kidding. Nothing more than a ranting young man talking about subjects that he really has very little understanding of, and whose details he is in no way privy to. Looks to me like just another young dude that is desperately seeking attention, and that takes cartoon video games far too seriously.

I hate to be a buzz kill, but I don’t think a race change is possible. There is no easy solution to fix the race changing. Even if you were level 80 and already did your story line, it would have to totally delete all your personal story in you hero menu and replace it with a fake one. One that you didn’t do. And in total, that just doesn’t make sense. Not only does it affect your story but it also affects your world, because certain NPC’s react/say things depending on the race you are. I think it is more complicated than it is worth. Now with the kits that changed your appearance, that was easy, because it didn’t mess with the game story wise, or even affect NPC dialogue. That being said, It would be pretty cool to see such a thing implemented. I also think another reason they don’t want to alter story too much is Guild Wars itself is heavily story based (One of the many reasons I love it). Anyways, thanks for letting me voice my opinion. If Anet can implement it, that’s pretty cool. If not, I won’t mind.
Very well stated, and polite too!
As I said, there are many options. Yet another option would be a simple total delete of your storyline with your having to do it all over again (with no rewards). Because as it stands now, a player can level to 80 without completing his storyline or choosing an Order.
I very much agree with you, that,“It would be pretty cool to see such a thing implemented.”. And like you, I agree that, “If Anet can implement it, that’s pretty cool. If not, I won’t mind.” —-
Thanks for the intelligent input.

Anyway, back to the topic at hand …
OP, on another thread I wrote:
I’m amazed that Anet has not implemented a Race change option already. They could charge quite a high price for it, and even make it a cash only option. Trust me, they would make an absolute killing in profits from this.
As to all of the so-called problems people have raised, like personal stories and such; sorry but those are very easy to deal with. Simply require a toon to be an 80 with every single skill and trait unlocked, and with a completed personal storyline in order to use the “race-change token”. Once used, the race-change token erases all of your previous personal story and simply replaces it with a default (and unalterable) completed storyline for the race that you have chosen.
Also, there is no “rule” that race changes have to be from tokens, or instant. You could keep the requirements i stated above, and Anet could give themselves a 2-week window to implement the requested race-change. I have played many an MMO that had just such a sytem. For example, In LoTRO, when you request (and pay for) a name change, it takes a few days before you actually get the name change option sent to your toon.
C’mon Anet, don’t you guys want more money? —- God knows I would pay through the nose for a race change, and I’m sure I’m not alone in this.
PS: Anet, do you have any idea how many “fan-boys” you would create with a purchasable race-change option; I for one would worship at the alter of GW2 !
Oh, and having a different opinion to yours is not “moderation”. Sorry to burst your bubble there.
moderation … ? … ahahahahaha

Anet have already said no. Is this so difficult for you people to understand?
Well hey guy, is it okay for us to make a suggestion to Anet on the suggestion thread? Or do we need somebody’s approval first?
And can we suggest it without being told that if we don’t like the way it is, delete/reroll or go somewhere else?
Believe it or not, game companies often change their minds about things. Especially when there is money to be had, and a player base that will be happy with the changes.
Oh, and by the way, these forums already have moderators monitoring them, I’m sure they don’t need any unsolicited help.
I’m often amazed at the number of people that despise the idea that other people may choose to have an option within a video CARTOON GAME that in no way impacts them.
The number of ways that that a race change option could be implemented are endless. And among those many-many options, it would include the newly race-changed toon having to either redo his entire story line from scratch (with no rewards) or accepting a completed default story-line NOT of his choice. Same goes with his Order choice.
The world will not come to an end if a race-change option is added; because if done correctly, it will satisfy both ANET (more money) and a large number of the player base (more options).

Devs, below is a cut and paste from a discussion being held in the General forum:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Knock-backs/first#post2069684
I find it funny that Anet didn’t learn how to put DR on stuns and knockbacks yet.
…
Correct …
Even in LotRO characters have a 5 sec stun/knockdown DR … it’s a common mechanic in many MMOs.
I have a feeling this mechanic was simply overlooked while developing the game, or is already planned to be added soon. It just makes too much sense to be otherwise.
Regardless, adding a 5 sec stun/knockdown DR would be a perfect topic for the Suggestion forum.

No.
-Anything- would be better than what they’ve done so far with the current ascended gear.
Implementing a new gear tier was unnecessary. Giving the gear better stats was unnecessary. Adding agony resist was unnecessary and cheapens the whole skill/teamwork aspect of fractals progression. Making the gear available only through certain venues was dumb. Using the gear as shallow (and extremely obvious) time-sink is dumb. Implementing the gear in the most alt/build unfriendly way possible is dumb.
perfect
Ascended Carrion —- ?
We have been assured that they will add Ascended Carrion and Valkyrie …
But it may be wise on your part NOT to hold your breath while waiting for it.
If I ever do bring a drake into WvW, I bring Marsh. The F2 still hits the intended target at any angle (even directly behind the drake) at a 900 range. MUCH less of a hassle to manage than the other drake F2s.
However, successfully landing the river drake’s F2 once or twice has made me laugh hysterically.
Huh?
I’m somewhat at a loss on what you said. Are you saying that the Marsh Drake’s F2 attack, if in range and un-interrupted, never misses his intended target?
And if so, which other Drake sub-species would you rank as 2nd for most likely to fully hit his target with his F2 attack? Salamander Drake?
(edited by Ision.3207)
Are my eyes deceiving me, or have people responded politely and intelligently as if this were a normal friendly conversation? I mean no one has jumped in telling me to re-roll a Warrior, or that I’m a self-hating female homophobe for having skimpy armor. Heck, not even the usual “self-appointed” forum moderators have shown up to tell me we already have threads like this and I’ve committed an unforgiveable sin for posting another one.
Good lord, will wonders never cease!

Seriously folks, thanks for your input and feedback, I appreciate it.
Canine vs Drake
Hey folks, looking for your opinion/feedback on the merits of Canines vs Drakes since the patch.
Since almost forever, I have run Canines almost exclusively for regular PvE and WvW (I stay away from zergs and only roam solo or in small groups). The only exception to this being dungeons, where I run 2 Devourers. Early on I tried Drakes, but between the bugs (chomp heals the other guy!) and only having ever so-slightly more tankiness than Canines, I wrote them off. But since the last couple of patches, I notice that the Chomp bug has been addressed, and there has been a substantial Vitality buff to Drakes.
So basically I have three questions I would like some feedback on:
1. Canine vs Drake, how do they stack up dps wise on a single target (and yes, I already know that Drakes have AOE dps, and Canines have none)?
2. Assuming you were forced to choose only one for PvE, which would it be – Canine or Drake ?
3. And assuming you were forced to choose only one for WvW, which would it be – Canine or Drake?
Thanks

Now before some of you get excited that another supporte of race change is commenting on this thread that could have been posted on one of the 100 other threads about this. I do not support race change I say if you like the elites or modles of the other races make a new character. Or delete and re-roll.
The real issue is Arena Net specificy stated they are not doing it. So if race change is a thing that is game breaking for you then there are other games that give that option.
Well hey guy, is it okay for us to make a suggestion to Anet on the suggestion thread? Or do we need someones approval first?

Folks, just drop the subject.
While I too would love to see more armor types, of every type you can imagine (skimpy, evil, historical, comical ect …) you just won’t get anywhere with these type of threads.
We live in an age of political correctness, where every angry self-entitled ninny feels they have the right not to be offended; in other words, they feel they have the right to dictate to others what is right and wrong, appropriate or inappropriate and so on. Of course when you point out the self-contradiction in this stance, in that others could be offended by what these self-appointed guardians of what is proper may say, do or wear … forget it, you’re just spitting in the wind. Because these holders of the one and only “truth” cannot be reasoned with. And there’s no end to them these days, there is literally an army of these finger-wagging school marm types around every corner. Yes, these self-esteem wrecks are everywhere, and they love to “remind” you what a racist, sexist, homophobic, patriarchal and unenlightened creature you are.
So don’t waste your time trying to reason with them, they don’t work that way.
Like the original poster, I too realised too late what I wanted couldn’t be achieved simply because of the race I had chosen. I ended up making a new main character (my original main guardian had 62% map completion – sadly, yes, I was that desperate to make a new char simply for the appearance I wanted) just so I could choose the race I was happy with.
I had all my outfits sussed, only to realise it A) didn’t look as nice on my sylvari, or
the armour I liked was ‘cultural’ and my sylvari couldn’t wear it anyway. The amount of time and money I then had to reinvest into a new guardian just to change the race was annoying, and as a gamer I can say hand on heart it is a real turn off not being able to change races – gosh, even adding it as an option to the gem store for like 300-800 gems would suffice in my opinion, but the fact that there is no option at all other than to reroll completely can turn people away from gw2 altogether.
I think it’s a much needed update either way. That, and dyeable weapons (I live in hope…)
I feel for you, and trust me, I can relate.
But you can forget a 300 to 800 gem cost for a race change. Afterall, it cost 1800 gems to transfer to another server. And the race-change option would require a bit of work on Anets end, so you really can’t blame them if they make this option a “high-end” expensive one. I could easily live with a cost of 2500 gems, or 25 dollars.
I’m amazed that Anet has not implemented a Race change option already. They could charge quite a high price for it, and even make it a cash only option. Trust me, they would make an absolute killing in profits from this.

At some point, the devs are going to address the issues with Elementalist’s Scepter skills. And when that occurs, I believe the very first thing that wll be looked at will be Fire skill 2, Dragon’s Tooth.
But please God (and Devs), don’t make Dragons Tooth ground-targeted, simply reduce the animation time a little bit.
Please Devs, do not add another GT skill to this weapon set.
Besides, reducing the hovering animation time would correct what everyone hates about this skill in it being too easy to run/dodge away from. In effect, reducing the hovering animation time would not be adding yet another ground-targeted skill while still allowing the possibilty of people being able to avoid the attack if they react quickly enough.
While this skill needs to be adjusted, I ask, just please, nothing drastic.

I’ve been waiting on Carrion ascended trinkets for months now, and have finally given up hope.
But I have no doubt that they WILL introduce Sentinel stats for trinkets, and they will do so VERY soon. After all, the new stat combo is yet another solid choice for bunker builds, so it must take priority.
I give up … there’s no use asking for em any more … just gonna move on to another build and different trinkets … oh well
ahahahahahaha …. good lord
and the funny part is that to make those would take nearly ZERO effort …
trust me, they could leave the icon blank and name it the, “Carrion amulet of noobs and fails” … and trust me, we would spend the laurals and get it without a peep …

I just don’t see how adding a class that is more oriented towards group healing would hurt. It would please those that enjoy that role but would not be required for dungeons for all the reasons you all have already mentioned.
Because those classes ALREADY exist … For example: a deeply water traited staff Ele with very specific set of utilities and a very specific skill rotation can do wonders for a coordinated group of players that are famliar with a dungeon.
Same for Guardian and Engineers … hell, even the DPS monster known as, “the Warrior” can be a banner/shout beast if he desires … so a dedicated healing/regen/aegis alternative ALREADY exists – and in spades. So anyone that likes those roles has a plethora of choices …
The only thing a TRUE 100% heal the group class might do for this game is possibly make PUGGING easier (assuming he knows what he is doing, and assuming he LIKES the role …) … but the cost of having a class like this would be ruinous to every single other aspect of this game. Not to mention the gigantic overhaul of the core game the devs would have to make, as well as an overhaul to every single professions healing and regen mechanics …
Basically, if Anet wants to destroy their own game … then feel free to make a LotRO “Minstrel” class and put it in this game. Normally I would think they would never even entertain such nonsense, but hey … ya never know …
(edited by Ision.3207)
My experience in MMOs when it comes to the “trinity” has been mainly negative.
The first group of total idiots are the DPS class players that expect everyone in the group to do NOTHING more than to ensure that they are kept alive and well buffed, so they can shout out their newest all-time high crit damage they achieved. And god forbid anything goes wrong, because almost without exception, the healer or support class player will be blamed by the DPS players for the wipe. Never mind that almost without exception, the role of the healers and support are far harder to master and far harder to play well. For the most part, the uber-leet “master’s of dps” tend to be the absolute rudest and most selfish players in the game.
But then you have the second group of idiots, the non-healing healers and non-tanking tanks traited in their sub-par dps specs. And god do they moan endlessly when the DPS classes expect them to heal/support when in group. So it’s also a two-way street, because for the most part the vast majority of MMO players want to do DPS. And because of this, regardless of how a class was defined by the WoW or Lotro devs, a huge number of people that rolled sub-par dps classes – specced and geared for: DPS. (And yes, I am aware that there are folks that love healing, tanking, and boon and CC support roles, but they are the VAST minority of players).
Both in WoW and Lotro I did have periods when the game was a blast, but they were short lived periods of the perfect group of MATURE players in a nice and respectful guild/kin. Unfortunately these periods were short-lived in my experience. Because even in an excellent guild with great folks, even there, an expectation of people filling certain roles in a certain precise fashion will exist. And when things go wrong those expectations will rear its head, and you get “guild drama” times a hundred. It is for this reason, that in those games, eventually I gave up dungeon running completely.
I’m no “fan-boy”, and I have my issues with GW2 and feel that there are many things that need improvement. But NOT having severely pigeon-holed roles/classes is NOT one of my problems with this game. On the contrary, it was one of the 2 reasons I left those games for GW2 (the other reason being, that GW2 was marketed as a horizontal progression game without an endless gear-grind – heh – oh well, one out of two ain’t bad!).
Sorry, but NO, this game does NOT need to introduce a “trinity” system along the lines of WoW or LoTRO … Besides, there already exist a ton of games in that style for you to choose from; so please, pretty please, can’t you leave the rest of us just ONE small corner of refuge from that garbage? The current GW2 model of greatly self-sufficient classes is wonderful, and it’s one of the things they got VERY right.
(edited by Ision.3207)
Thank you for the response Rayya.
I guess what I am worried about is running with ZERO condition removal, and then finding myself in a dungeon where the boss fires a 10 to 15 sec chill, cripple or burn and then I have no recourse. To my knowledge, there are no NPCs (or hot spots) that attack with conditions of such huge durations … but I’m not sure.
Perhaps I am being a bit paranoid for no reason —- so I posted this in hopes of getting a response from my fellow Melandru Runes x6 users.
Hey guys, question:
If you’re wearing 6x Melandru Runes with an active Lemongrass Soup for a total of -65% condition duration … how much more condition removal would you carry?
Or better stated, assuming the above; would you still have a utility choice that is dedicated to condition removal, or could you get by with the Runes and soup with NO other form of condition reduction/removal?
I’m pretty sure (not totally) the x6-Melandru/Soup combo would be sufficient in WvW, but what about dungeons? Can I get away with this in dungeons, or are there 10 second (or more) duration conditions I am not aware of?
Thanks in advance
Could we please get an official response if this is an intended nerf or an overlooked mistake?
It is neither. It just takes time to build these items and there is a huge amount of stuff on our list of things to do. We aren’t done adding stat combos. We will continue to add them as we have time to do so. With this batch, we wanted to even out the spread of primary stats and we already had a lot of stats with Power or Condition Damage as primary (more than any other, in fact), but I’ll be sure to get Valkyrie and Carrion into the next batch.
Oh my, he said the next “batch”, and not the next “patch” …..
ahahahahahahahaha
ya just gotta love it …
unreal …
Oh dear, it looks like it’s time to copy and paste an old post of mine, and try YET AGAIN … to get a response …
Ascended: Carrion and Valkyrie
Devs, both myself and large number of other people within the GW2 community would greatly appreciate some sort of Dev response to the question of whether or not Ascended Carrion and Valkyrie gear will be released.
The reason it’s important for some of us to know is, because If the answer is YES:
This would also allow a great number of your customers to proceed with their current builds without wasting any Laurels for different Ascended items that they never needed to get in the first place, because they now know that Carrion and Valkyrie are going to be released (as well as saving myself and others time in trying to re-invent our builds). So a simple “yes” (even without a fixed date or time-frame), would be hugely appreciated by a great number of your customers.
But even if the answer is NO (or “maybe”):
A simple no, or maybe (“maybe” as in, perhaps in the future, but not currently planned)would still be hugely appreciated, albeit, disappointing. Sure, a “No or Maybe” would no doubt result in a 150 post thread of QQ and over-the-top posturing by the usual folks … but so what. Because if there is no response at all, eventually that QQ thread will appear anyway, just a month or two months from now, and the QQ and ridiculous comments will only be that much greater. But if in fact it’s going to be a no, then you would be doing me a great favor in letting me know now, instead of later, thus allowing me to make the proper adjustments to my character build and current playstyle.
So Devs, please, give us a heads up on this issue, because I know you guys read these threads, or at the very least skim through them a bit.
Thank you.
Thanks in advance
PS: I carry scepter/dagger and run an Aura build. Game time is spent primarily in PvE (with lots of dungeons), with a small amount of time in WvW.
“On engineer, your managing multiple toolkits, changing f1-f4 abilities, greater access to self created combos etc. Theif might be simple except its one of the most papery classes in the game, in a dungeon a good theif MUST avoid or predict enemy attacks in order to survive.”
Very true …. I have an Ele and can relate.
However, there is an enormous difference between having to manage all those things for yourself, and ONLY yourself —- and having to manage them for both yourself AND a NON- DISPOSABLE pet (pets are NOT phantasms/clones, their fucntionality and purpose is hugely different). Imagine if you had to manage not only your own dodge, but that of the Guardian in your group/party as well — how well would that work out for you?
Further, there are many OTHER options (like a dungeon only pet aegis on player dodge, say a 5 sec 50% aegis). A seperate pet dodge button for a pet that may be a good distance from me, and in the middle of endless partical effects … well, … idk … seems to me that it will work very infrequently.

Robert,
Thank you.
:-)
Robert, here is what I think adding a seperate pet dodge mechanic will resolve for 90% of your Ranger player base: nothing.
Like Gutbuster has stated, “Often it’s difficult enough to know exactly when you need to dodge in order to avoid some damage, with a pet dodge you’d be required to not only keep track of your own position but also your pet’s exact position which also trying to see your pet amongst all the spell graphics surrounding bosses getting nuked, seeing red circles on the floor which may be behind the boss since that’s where your pet is, camera angles etc the list goes on a bit. In addition you’d also have to hit your own dodge key as well as an additional F key or any other key bind you have.”
I agree with him whole heartedly.
Yes, without a doubt there will be a small fraction of Ranger players that will benefit from a seperate pet dodge mechanic: the “Pro” player, if you will. These people have ridiculously quick reflexes, as well a superb RIGs and a mouse with dozens of key binds they have no problem dealing with. I’m NOT talking bad about these players; hey, god bless ’em, they are the exceptions to the general rule, and they make the most of it. These tend to be your best of the best players and are often found in sPvP/tPvP.
But for the non-PRO player, adding a seperate dodge mechanic for the pet will be an utter waste of time in dealing with the problem of Pets dying from AOE too much in dungeons —- the difference will be insignicant for the typical Ranger player who is under heavy duress from swarms of mobs, surrounded with heavy particle effects and trying to keep himself alive and contributing to the party.
Look, I’m not talking about that bottom 5 to 10% either, the folks that really have very poor reflexes and positional awareness, and who really can’t cope with the basic pace of this game. At least not in a difficult dungeon setting anyway. No, I’m referring to that big fat mass of players in the middle: also known as: the “majority” – the “average” – the “typical”.
For this group, many of the ideas being offered here will only result in the outcome stated by Shiren, “So micromanaging and resource management are the game-play being pushed by that kind of design. A lot of us play the class for the AI companion, not a micromanaged companion. Micromanaging, while increasing the skill cap (in a certain way), isn’t going to solve the problem for a lot of rangers, and for many players it takes the class in a direction they don’t want to go in.”
In essence many of the changes being proposed would transform the Ranger into a class that does not resemble the one that many people were looking for when they rolled it. Please keep this in mind as you consider the many OTHER options that exist to address pet mechanics and survivability.
Thank you.

Shiren said:
“Honestly, I don’t think the devs can (or are prepared to) do what needs to be done to make the pet mechanic viable while maintaining health diversity (read: cats and birds are also viable in dungeons) without turning the class into a ridiculously complex mess of micromanagement and inefficient outcomes. Consider how difficult many players find dodging attacks when they only have to worry about themselves, do you really think a dodge skill for the pet is going to be a working fix for this issue for most rangers? They then have to pay attention to the boss/mobs, their character’s position and their pet’s position – and then they have to command both themselves and their pet to dodge (often at the same time) not to mention the likelihood of having to manage two dodge bars (a ranger one and a pet one, they likely wouldn’t give you unlimited dodges for the pet). So micromanaging and resource management are the gameplay being pushed by that kind of design. A lot of us play the class for the AI companion, not a micromanaged companion. Micromanaging, while increasing the skill cap (in a certain way), isn’t going to solve the problem for a lot of rangers, and for many players it takes the class in a direction they don’t want to go in.
I am genuinely interested in why he thinks two rangers, through smart use of pet swap, two-manning bosses (many bosses can be soloed by multiple classes already, it just takes longer – in some cases not by much) is a bad thing, given the current meta we already have. I don’t want brain dead easy face tanks pets to trivialise boss fights, but I don’t see micromanagement as an appropriate solution and I do think there is a problem."
I cannot agree more – BRAVO !!!

I still like the Dodge from Ranger applying Aegis to its pet.
That’d fit with Ranger pretty good.
I very much agree, there’s no need to re-invent the wheel here. A simple 5 secs of Aegis to the pet on your dodge would go a very long way in helping pets in dungeons. A seperate dodge mechanic for pets is not needed; and given how often Rangers are dodging in dungeons, the Aegis idea would be far more beneficial.
I am still here and watching. I’m currently composing a list of ideas and statements from this thread to bring to our balance meetings (held multiple times per week), that I can present to at least talk about with the group.
I go to the meetings as a representative for rangers and dungeons, since I play both of those things extensively. Here’s how my list is looking so far:Core problems: (Note: we are very aware of both of these things)
-Pet AI.
-Pet management toolsThings to investigate:
-Pets auto attacks only hitting a single target.
-On “return” command, your pet gains swiftness so it can escape out of red rings more easily.
-A button that makes your pet momentarily not take damage. A sort of “Dodge” button for you to control. This is mainly due to us making sure players know how to use their dodge-roll or damage mitigation skills, which pets don’t have, and don’t always know how to escape properly when recalled without a direct pet swap.
-Pet/minion AR that is shared with the master’s stats.
-More defensive pet skills.
-Vigor applied to pets turns into swiftness or protection.
-In dungeons, pet’s get more health/armor.
Robert, please … PLEASE .. NOT this: – “A button that makes your pet momentarily not take damage. A sort of “Dodge” button for you to control. This is mainly due to us making sure players know how to use their dodge-roll or damage mitigation skills, which pets don’t have, and don’t always know how to escape properly when recalled without a direct pet swap.”
For the love of god, we already have enough things to juggle while fighting swarms of mobs in a dungeon ! —- I’m sure it will be fine for all the “PRO” players, but for us mere mortals – it will solve NOTHING>
I do however love this: "-In dungeons, pet’s get more health/armor. "
