Massive overheating issues

Overheating is NOT a common issue… It is an issue yes, but an issue of improper cooling on YOUR end. Can’t believe this thread is coming up again, lol.

If you are SURE it’s your gpu overheating and not cpu or both cpu and gpu, then look at aftermarket cooling options. Simple as that.

Previous poster mentioned verifying fans are spinning along with no dust clogging things up, do that of course, but if it’s always been a problem, get a better cooler.

Uh, look up Guild Wars 2 overheating. You’ll get more than a few hits.

I play a lot of games, and none have this issue but GW2.

EDIT: Looking through some old threads in an attempt to find an answer, looks like you are very, very determined to say it’s not the game. I doubt I’ll change your mind, but I found it amusing to see you reply in threads from months ago.

Has it always been that way when you got the gpu? Try running valley benchmark and/or furmark(valley on max settings is enough to put the same/more load as gw2 on max settings though).

Have you physically checked if the fans are working properly and/or dirty and clean/replace them?

It can be just dirty fans/heatsink or needing to replace the TIM on your gpu.

The GPU has run every other game I’ve played capping out at ~68C maximum. Run Guild Wars 2 and it overheats depending on the situation. Something is causing it to sit on 100% load until it blows up my PC.

But yes, I’ve opened the side of my case and watched all of my fans while leaving the game running, from what I can see (And based on both AMD Overdrive and Everest) everything is running fine.

I highly advise you to run Valley benchmark at the very least just to be sure.

Nvidia and AMD both have implemented throttling mechanisms for even power viruses like Furmark to avoid hardware damage if they aren’t as up to specd (I had my gtx 460 rma’ed because a capacitor blew up on stock settings running Furmark lol) or crashes.

It’d be strange for something like Guild Wars 2 to overheat your GPU and not Furmark so I recommend running Furmark too aside from “every other game”.

BTW as a temporary fix, you could also try turning V-Sync on. I have a 280x and having V-Sync on gives me 59-62c while turning it off gives 70c so I go with V-Sync on(I don’t have problems with V-Sync off except those associated with higher FPS than screen refresh but it saves on power consumption and less heat/noise from GPU).

A more drastic measure would be to limit FPS to 30 on your settings.

You’re comparing 2 weapons in a build traited for one, great lol.

Yeah, you’d be foolish not to take advantage of Honed Axes when running with an Axe mainhand…

Sword normally crits for 4-5k+ in a standard dps build btw.

Those numbers were simply an example to visually show the sleight difference. I could have said Sword does 50K crits and Axe does 45K crits. My point still stands. With just about a 10% decrease per hit, the difference is so tiny that the trade off is well worth it.

2.6k3.8k vs 5k isn’t 10% btw….

There’s also attack speed and after cast time and pile up QZ/SoTW the gap gets bigger.

There’s more dps loss in not taking Companion’s might or Sharpended Edges for Honed axes.

The difference isn’t “slight” in the very least.

@ Fluffball, you make it sound like Axe does about 10% damage of what Sword does.

In reality – when traited using Honed Axes:
Sword crits for 3k, Axe crits for 2.6k – from a 900 range SAFE distance. Such a huge gap…

You’re comparing 2 weapons in a build traited for one, great lol.

New PC

Yeah. Thanks for all your replies. Though the fact that it overheats isn’t my main problem. One thing I also have trouble with is how fast the game runs. My graphics are terrible and I don’t want to invest my money into products such as a can of compressed air; apparently it’s very costly. For example: if I was to go WvW (which is one of the main aspects about GW2 that I enjoy) and run in large parties, there would suddenly be no sound apart from every 10 seconds or so. All my settings are put to the lowest option available so all I ever see are name tags. Divinity’s Reach is also a place where I spend most of my time and I lag quite a lot. Therefore, I actually want to buy a new PC so I can have a far better experience in-game. Hope you’ve understood my problem and can help to decide which PC I can purchase.

Do you really need a laptop or not?

If not, just go with the PC parts I posted or something similar. You get more value for your money when it comes to performance for a desktop than a laptop.

Given that only partial fees taken out of the total tp fees will be affected, can you prove that your suggestions will be enough to cover it or at least project the effect of your suggestion(how much trades will be done instead of listings by actual players) and that your suggested gold sinks can cover it fully?

Vulnerability / Might Ranking

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Izaya.2906

Izaya.2906

The problem with pugging solo is there are alot of variables involved specially with % modifiers like vulnerability & frost spirit.

There’s also capping might and vuln stacks.

Now to me, ele, engineer, warr & rangers are your best bet if you want to bring the team dps up effectively.

Ele is obviously on top because of FGS, might stacking and possible capping vuln with weak spot + FGS. Might and vuln could be over stacked but you can adjust your build accordingly for more personal DPS.

Engineer shines most in vuln stacking without FGS and decent might stacking. There’s also the convenience of a smoke field.

As for warriors, you talked about PS. There’s also obviously banners and the option to run higher personal dps instead of PS in a good might stacking pug group.

As for rangers, spotter will always be helpful but FS won’t do as good with pugs not bringing good base damage.

So long story short, I’d go with Ele first, Engi next if you expect not much vuln/might stacks, warr if there are no or only 1 warr, Ranger if you expect the pugs to do good base damage.

Since you said you’re not very knowledgeable about computers I suggest you get a friend who has experience or a professional to open up your laptop and clean it for you if you ever decide to go that way.

Now if you go the route of buying a new pc for your budget(I’m assuming you don’t wanna overclock and would like to use your new pc out of the box):
http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/w26Bzy

PSU is a bit too much but it’s cheapest Seasonic I can find for UK and you can’t go wrong with having some overhead for it.

You have to remove the top HDD cage to fit the GPU but that’s easily done by removing thumbscrews only.

The case will be perfect for you, the dust filters are easily removed and washable, just remember to do it regularly(probably once a month will be fine).

Edit: kitten , you wanted a new laptop lol, probably a Lenovo G505s is good enough for your needs.

You have a 280x, that’s your problem.
Alt tabbing out and back in removes the artifacts.
Also underclocking the ram a bit usually works as well.

What you really want to do is rma the card.

The HYNIX ram used on the 1st batch of r9 280x’s was replaced with new ELPIDA ram, the new ram can handle the overclocks, the old can’t.
If you rma it you’ll get a new one with the new ram.

Isn’t Hynix better than Elpida and companies were just cutting costs?

I got a 280x with Hynix memory on 1550 MHz/6200 effective without any artifacts at all for 9 months now.

Again you’re just talking for yourself on this matter.

I have sold a perma hairstyle kit, several precursors, legendaries etc. costing me thousands of gold in TP fees.

I don’t find the TP fee an inconvenience at all but a necessary balance for the economy, the new players/casuals won’t be able to afford anything if I(and everyone using the TP) had more gold to spend on high demand items I like to use for myself.

A 1000g of a product is equal to 850g gold on hand(after sales) in this virtual economy not 1000g or 1000g worth of items, and I emphasize virtual economy.

If they were to introduce trading, then they would have to come up with a way to funnel out that 15% gold.

And regarding Zaxares comment about 10g a day, I do 20-30g a day purely from dungeon running depending on how much time I have and if other people are online to run with, that doesn’t include selling drops mind you so his example is a conservative number.

Now, let’s say we all agree to person to person trading, can you kindly suggest a gold sink that will remove 10’s or 100’s of thousands or millions(I don’t know exactly because I don’t have access to metrics) of gold from the entire GW2 population daily?

It’s easy to suggest something for your personal convenience at the expense of the general population but if you can’t come up with a feasible solution to the negative side effect then it’s also not feasible to implement the suggestion in the first place.

It’s as simple as that.

I suggest you post here to get an answer from Anet’s economist

I would if A. I thought he would give me an entirely unbiased answer (I’ve already pointed out that they have a financial interest in keeping gold low), and B. I’ve already expressly stated that I want to know if the players can justify it without referring to what “an expert” has told them.

You already answered yourself there.

Yes it is in Anet’s interest to keep gold low, it is also in our interest to keep it low. I think you already know as a game grows older gold becomes more worthless, allowing people to evade a universal gold sink is counterproductive in this situation.

You stated its a trade of 1000g worth of item(s) for 1000g worth of item(s). What purpose will the TP have if you allow these item trades then? You are just evading the gold sink in this transcation, nothing more.

There are millions of transactions on the TP that pulls out gold from the economy. That is the ultimate goal, to pull money out of the economy so new players aren’t overwhelmed by how much “old money” is present and can catch up.

You just don’t want involve yourself with the gold sink in this situation. In a item trade transacation were you get to keep 100g more in your bank, you and others who they facilitate to trade can pay a higher price for other items and cause unnecessary inflation harming new players. This only favors players who accumulate wealth for a long period of time and hurts new/casual players who won’t be able to keep up.

It’s only natural that if you keep more gold circulating that people can pay for gold for more items and new players/casuals have alot of a harder time to get what they want.

You may feel its unfair for you in this single transaction but its a universal gold sink applied to millions of transactions daily, no one should be exempted no matter how they feel.

you didnt say what drivers you are currently using, nor if you did a DDU from safe mode before installing the latest drivers.

All my system are running AMD GPus and none of them suffer from the black screen of death.

It could be;

The Drivers (Currently running the NEW version of 14.4)
Power Supply – GPU-Z should tell you what Amps and watts your GPU are pulling. You can log this to file – Then make sure your Power supply’s 12v rails are rated for the draw. Make sure the PSU isnt getting hot to the touch either.
GPU itself – maybe the card is over heating and signaling to the Monitor is dying in the process?

http://puu.sh/aKbTK/62d6b01c4d.png

That’s my version. The next picture is of GPU-Z. I started it, then opened GW2. You can see the spike from when I actually logged in. However, I HIGHLY doubt these numbers are accurate. For example, in just a few seconds, the “GPU temp” went to over 65 degrees C. That’s almost 150 F. When I minimized GW2, it went from 65+ to 40. There’s absolutely no way it could have dropped 20 C (a ~70 F drop in seconds) so quickly.

http://puu.sh/aKcXu/8f6fab1413.png

I don’t think you’re using the latest driver version for 14.4(xxx98C, latest is xxx99C).

You should redownload this:
http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop?os=Windows%207%20-%2064#amd-catalyst-packages

Try what sirsquishy said and use DDU to clean everything up after you uninstall your old drivers.

If you have access to another computer, you could also try installing GW2 there and use your GPU and test it out to isolate the problem.

I used to think I have issues with my 280x(BSOD’s, frequent random freezes while playing) but it turned out to be a faulty motherboard, here’s the driver I’m running with my 280x now (no problems since I changed my motherboard updated to this):

Again, you’re talking about what you will do.

Which, to be honest, is insulting to the playerbase to make them pay for a secure trade system which is free in practically every other MMO.

Even regardless of how I or anyone would use it, it’s terrible customer care to make it so that your only options for trading are either “Risk easy scams” or “Spend unnecessary gold”.

How is being fair to all players insulting to the playerbase?

Joe has to deal with TP taxes if he sells his ectos, lodestones, t6 mats and other random stuff.

And if Joe wants to buy Dusk he will pay for it with gold.

Why should Jack be excused from TP taxes just because he got Dawn to sell instead of random stuff like Joe?

You fail to understand that TP taxes is applicable to everyone. Just because you think you should be excused in a particular transcation doesn’t mean they should facilitate it for you.

I suggest you post here to get an answer from Anet’s economist regarding if a player to player trade can be harmful to the economy and why or why not, he should be the most qualified to do so since he has access to ingame metrics etc. :

Given the current system, people who want a secure transaction will sell off their Dusk on the tp removing 225g from circulation and 180g for the Dawn seller and satisfying people with gold on hand’s demand.

Now if you facilitate a trade, those people will not list it on the TP allowing 405g to circulate just for those 2 items alone.

Those people who were willing to pay for Dusk/Dawn will continue to farm gold and increase what they are willing to pay in gold for Dusk and Dawn.

I hope you see the big picture instead of just the factors involved in a single person to person trade.

Anet is a business and it is good for them to not support out of TP trading, people are stupid and will always be stupid and get scammed.

No matter what fancy trading system Anet spends on, people will still get scammed and file tickets/complain to Anet claiming this and that. I have friends who work for another gaming company’s Customer Service department and you wouldn’t believe how much employee time they waste investigating scamming claims. The time/money used to investigate these claims is an unnecessary expense for Anet.

Gold sink, go look it up in google. 5% listing fee and 10% selling fee helps keep the economy healthy. You wanting to trade an item for an item is good an all but that isn’t the only concern when trading.

They don’t need to investigate anything if they adopt the stance that if you get scammed, it’s your own fault. As I said in the very post you quoted, a properly built trading system removes the possibility of scamming that is outside of the control of the scammed. A simple lock step makes it so that once you accept what the other person is offering, they cannot change it. So if you think it’s the right things and click “Accept”, then it locks it, and they cannot change it and you have the time to double-check the items to make sure that they’re the right items, even in the case of reused icons. Then, once you make sure it’s what you wanted and you are satisfied, you hit “Confirm” to finalize the trade.

That one step makes it so that the only reason anyone would get scammed is an intentional carelessness, which doesn’t need to be investigated. There is no “investigation time” that has to be allowed for, because they can literally just adopt the stance that if you got scammed, it was because you didn’t utilize the safety feature given to you.

I know what a gold sink is. I don’t feel that I, or anyone, should have to lose money on a simple item-for-item trade which shouldn’t involve gold at all, though. There’s a line where “It’s a gold sink for the good of the economy” becomes “It’s an unnecessary cost and an inconvenience to a player who isn’t even trying to spend any gold at all”.

And, again, if I want to skip the TP fees, I can do it now. Unsafely. The only options for the convenience of their paying customers should not be “Pay gold you shouldn’t need to spend while trading an item for an item” and “Roll the dice if the person you want to trade with is trustworthy”.

Convenience and caring about customers. Go look it up on Google.

Scammed people will file tickets and someone has to go check those tickets before they get closed. More people will be demanding support for getting scammed (out of TP trade is already not supported and seeing people complain or filing tickets when they get scammed is normal now, you can expect a higher volume of people getting scammed if you facilitate trading and a higher volume of tickets).

Again I’d like to reiterate you wanting to trade an item for an item is good an all but that isn’t the only concern when trading.

Lets say you have Dusk and you want to trade it for Dawn.

That removes 1 Dusk(1500g) and 1 Dawn(1200g) from the market and eliminates a potential sale of each item on the TP.

Now there are several possible effects for this.

One is less money is removed from the game contributing to gold having less value faster over time.

Another one is less supply on the TP of those two high demand items translating to higher prices for those items.

Item to item trade may be good to you but it isn’t for others.

Counter-points.

1. It’s already possible to do “non-TP” trades through the mail. Why would there suddenly be a massive influx of spams about selling items if a better, safer system was put in? Besides, they could cut out the projected spamming significantly by not putting gold as tradable in the trade window. After all, if you want to give someone gold, you can already through the mail.

2. A well-built trading system does not allow for scamming except through practised carelessness (which doesn’t need to be investigated). For example, a “lock” step for trades where once you accept the other side’s offer, they cannot change it before you accept the full trade negates someone quickly removing something just before you click it, as well as gives you all the time you need to ensure you’re getting the right items or amount. By only offering the current system for giving items outside the TP, it actually makes it less secure if someone wants to trade through there, item for item instead of item for gold then gold for item. So yeah, a properly built trading system means that they can simply say “If you get scammed, it is your own fault”, regardless of reused icons. That lock step makes it so that you never have “not enough time” to look at what you’re trading before accepting.

3. Why put it in? Well, it might be unnecessary if it wasn’t super inconvenient to trade things through the mail, blocking you from “spamming” someone if you need to send more than two mails. Also, let’s say I get the Heavy version of the Dry Top goggles and someone else needs that but I need the Light version and they have that and don’t need it. A direct, item-for-item trade system would be better, in that case, than selling my goggles at a loss and then buying another set of goggles, having to make up the difference. Or say I get one of the new kites but want a different colour. Then it gets even more annoying if you’re dealing with more expensive items. If I’m wanting to trade a precursor for a precursor, I’d have to foot a difference of more than 100 gold depending on the specific one by selling mine and then buying the other.

So, any logical refutations that don’t rely on a presupposed massive influx of blockable spam?

Anet is a business and it is good for them to not support out of TP trading, people are stupid and will always be stupid and get scammed.

No matter what fancy trading system Anet spends on, people will still get scammed and file tickets/complain to Anet claiming this and that. On a business point of view, you spend ALOT less employee time on customer service for scamming tickets(no responsibility to check for scamming, who is right and who is lying, who deserves to get his item/gold back etc. this kitten just wastes alot of time because someone is stupid enough to get scammed)

On a gaming point of view, 5-15% gold sink depending if transactions are completed or listed only via TP.

Each weapon in fact can be min-max, depending on situation. How will sword work against spread out mobs that are each interested in different target? Happy cleaving one mob at a time when axe can pick off 2-3 each cast.

Ofc when stacked and not too lethal in melee sword primes axe’s raw damage.
When bossing what do you want? Do most damage face to face with sword?

Or sacrificing your own damage for log weakness on boss and some chill with axe’s winter’s bite?
Again min-max depends on situation and your own goals here.

So my message to fellow rangers is that each weapon is a tool that works wonders in right situation, so don’t let “meta” rob you off a pair of sweet sharp axes;)

I didn’t waste much karma on mine, its best to use the one clover recipe for clovers. I think I stated that on my post.

Again, with 1 clover recipe, did you ever only use 90 obsidians? Last pair I did was 213 and 240, 170ish was probably the best but not 90.

This 200k karma only figure seems highly improbable.

You do realize that its not exact right? 200k karma can extend to a little farther than that, but yes it only took me about 100-105 obsidian shards to make 77 clovers. If you want I can take a screenshot of the 88 I have in my bank.

That’s 1 sample, I know a guy that did 8/9 of the 10 recipe too. Yours is 73% of tries succeeded, his was 88%. Have you tried making 9 or more legendaries or asked around how much obsidians other people used?

The chance every time you roll to get a clover is roughly 30-32% so more often than not, someone will not only use 200k(give or take 10%), hence the 500k figure. This is more critical if you’re not doing events all the time that gain karma and 10 recipe will be an epic waste of karma and on top of that the chances of getting crappy leather.

It’s not impossible but its improbable.

It’s like me claiming everyone should mystic forge for their precursor because I got it on the 3rd combine(and yes I did get a precursor from a 3rd try, some do on their first try but then again it normally takes hundreds or thousands of tries) costing less than 10g, but we all know that’s kitten. It does end up giving a net gain in gold in the long run but people shouldn’t attempt it if they can’t afford to lose everything.

As with karma, there are other more reliable ways of monetizing it (like what a poster above suggested).

If you run with 1-2 LH eles always in your group or perma Fury uptime outside your ranger → Rodgort

I crafted Howler first for my necro, then later on bought(only 100g difference between crafting and putting a buy offer for it at the time) Rodgort.

Right now it costs 1500g to craft Rodgort and 1700g buy offer, just decide if 200g is worth your time doing the extra stuff if you ever go with this.

Right now I use axe & torch offhands more than warhorn(only for prestacking might and skipping usually).

There are absolutely no issues with both legendaries unless you want bigger effects or a pony coming out of your warhorn instead of a wolf.

In just a time of a few weeks, the price of nearly every t6 mat has spiked up and this isn’t the work of the patches that came out but rather from amenities and player base decreasing. What I’ve done so far is farmed about 600g worth of t6 mats and at the time I was just doing TP flipping, wvw, dungeons, etc, but at the time I only needed what was 800g worth of mats; suddenly, the gift of fortune rose to about 900g in a week and then boom one week later(now) 1000g, and it’s the all in the gift of fortune. So in light of all of this, I want to warn fellow players that you shouldn’t excessively buy t6 mats off the TP, it will ruin you if you are heavily tempted and there are better alternative ways to getting t6 mats by not playing the TP. Furthermore, this post isn’t for anything like crafting for ascended armor and ascended backpieces, though it can extend for those types if need be.

A lot of people say use your laurels, don’t be fooled by the overrated statement as it can crack you down since you only get 3 mats per bag. If you are extremely lucky enough you should be able to get the necessary amount of laurels for the mats in around 665 days, and this is if you do dailies every day, which is about 2 years. This obviously takes a long time, and you shouldn’t be encouraged to take the challenge though it would sound risky as well since you wouldn’t get all the mats you want.

TP flipping is a good tactic, but unfortunately players pretty much nerfed this option for buying t6 mats without even realizing it; if you’re willing to spend another month TP flipping, go ahead but note that buying the t6 mats will in fact get harder. People say to farm the gold and buy the mats, I’ve always hated when people say that and you’re already doing just that! There’s a lot of ways people make gold of course, even if by the smallest amount, but some of that is repetitive, and you will end up farming for something that’s actually easier to farm for, so if you can, farm the gold yes, but save your gold and don’t spend it on anything except investments until you have like 600g to waste ready or ready enough to buy ALL of your t6 mats. No joke, there’s an even better way to get t6 mats and many have already figured it out by watching a lot of YouTube videos, and I’ll clear it up, but yeah so far this method is pretty handy. FACT: you do not need to spend as much gold to buy them or spend time on farming them for the rest of your life.

The best way to get t6 mats is to rely on your karma, the more you pve the better the reward, I chose my words on the last sentence on the last paragraph very carefully. There is a reason as to why in the gw2 wiki it shows that you need around 500k karma, and the fact is that the 500k karma isn’t just for the mystic clovers, yes you need to get clovers but the truth is that you may only need about 200k karma for them and not 500k; so what to do with that 300k leftover? What you want to do is buy more obsidian shards, and do the 10 clover recipe. Using this method I’ve almost always gotten around 32-40 t6 mats, and have had better trade-offs than buying them from the TP. See here’s how it works, the drop rate research suggests that for both the 10 clover and 1 clover recipes have a drop rate of 30-32% that leaves a 68-70% chance of getting t6 mats, at this point you can choose between the 1 clover recipe and the 10 clover, but which is better? After researching through various YouTube videos, people have in fact gotten less t6 mats using the 1 recipe and the numbers are like 3-7 t6 mats, MOST of which turned out to be wood, leather, and orichalcum, but by doing the 10 clover recipe you would end up with even more t6 mats, LESS of which turned out to be wood, leather, and orichalcum! So go on ahead and try it! See if you can jackpot the 35-40 mat streak, remember that 10 globs are only about 4g so if you’re already TP flipping , this is a plus!

Seriously, I’d like to know which game you’re playing when you’re only using 200k karma for your clovers lol, I’ve crafted probably 10-12 legendaries, not a single one cost only 90 obsidians for the clovers.

Given a $600 budget, I’d go with this:

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/xqmnyc

You may opt to change the cooler to an all in one liquid coolers but that involves checking for leaks/cracks periodically etc. They happen very rarely but it’s more maintenance.

You wont need more than 1-2 PCI-E slots, it’s best to upgrade to the best single card you can find and by the time you wanna sli/crossfire there’s another one released that’s more powerful and energy efficient.

i tell him to switch to smth else, but most of em went ‘lol wat? ranger is called ranger cause its played at range’

At least, you can say that they aren’t called Rangers because of that. The name Ranger comes from the Long-range reconnaissance patrols (LRRP), bad kitten s units that does long-range operations inside of enemy territory. So, something like a Rambo+SWAT unit crazy enough to kill the enemies on they backyard (think of Inglourious Basterds movie).

The 700w isn’t the important part for power supply, first and foremost should be the Manufacturer and model of the power supply. Not so reputable manufacturers can rate them as 700w but in reality can’t even give 400w or even worse.

Anyway, if you’re keen on upgrading for guild wars 2 you’ll be leaning on an Intel.

You can go with these:

I assume you don’t want to overclock but you can mildly overclock 4 bins higher(4.1ghz) on the non-k 4590 anyway with a z97 motherboard and there’s also m.2 support.

You can use a newer graphics card but I wouldn’t recommend it because your CPU is gonna have a hard time keeping up(specially in Guild Wars 2). You should also check what exactly is the power supply provided in the system you got.

If you keep the 560 ti, how much is your budget for new processor and motherboard? You could also use 4gb more ram.

With the recently released fan made group DPS calculator many had a ranger in a group to max out DPS. So what now? Is the Ranger (Spotter/Frost Spirit) good or not so good?

It depends, most if not all those numbers assume 100% uptime on the bonuses and a 30s fight. Hunter’s Tactic’s is kinda a nuisance to proc when target is walled, same thing as trying to strafe while auto attacking. Extended fights also force you to dodge so you lose steady focus.

For really short fights(walled, FGS bosses etc.) SoTW + QZ(6/5/0/3/0) will be a significant factor pulling ranger DPS up. I find that Ranger really shines in CoE and AC because of this(non projectile heavy short fights then skip/time gate to get SoTW and QZ off cooldown plus Remorseless on trash).

For pugging where you don’t expect others in the party to be packing good dps you can even skip Nature Magic altogether(4/5/5/0/0, group DPS calculator seems to favor this build too) but then again as the fight lasts longer you may lose Steady Focus and/or Peak Strength.

Most of those problems is simply fixed by turning auto attack off or learning how to time #2 and #3(I do admit this is kittening hard when you don’t have the best latency), you can dodge or interrupt anytime in your attack chain with auto attack off.

The main problem is that you can’t melee max ranger at all when it is required for the encounter and forced to go GS, I do agree with you regarding removing leap to remedy this problem. I guess they are going with what TurtleDragon posted there…
Laziest solution would be a overall damage buff for the class and/or sword. It’d still be high risk and high skill cap, but it would atleast have the high reward associated with it.

Sword is designed against a single target, they want the GS to fill in the role of melee aoe DPS (reinforcing this further with Maul buff).

As I said to Prysin already, opinions. For you it’s a mechanic, for me it’s sloppy design.

Just add 10% modifier for the 6/5/0/3/0 ranger. I’ll try to post later actual FGS damage ingame.

That… err… proves my point?

I explicitly said POST PATCH we will approximately hit close to a thief/ele with FGS.

And 1.9k isn’t really max you should get right now.

Well that’s just how you feel. Sure using 1h sword in PvE has a skill cap, but the upcoming damage boost is significant enough to justify that cap (but I still remember them saying before april’s feature patch that they intended to “fix” sword auto attacks so there’s still hope for that).

I’ve made a thread about why I feel the sword is bad.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/ranger/Why-the-current-sword-needs-polishing/first

And the reasons I present are facts, no feels. Those flaws doesn’t make the sword unusable but the ranger has to work around those flaws and is still hindered. Not to say it’s a bad weapon overall but it suffers in PvE the most.

Most of those problems is simply fixed by turning auto attack off or learning how to time #2 and #3(I do admit this is kittening hard when you don’t have the best latency), you can dodge or interrupt anytime in your attack chain with auto attack off.

Post patch you can get hit like 10%x3 & 1×25% modifiers with a 6/5/x/x/x build, even 75 more power on top of that when you’re the second ranger, you’ll approximately hit close to a thief/ele with FGS.

That’s definitely not true. My ele hits for around 2,4k damage per tick while my ranger hits for only 1,9k. The ele can stack easily 25 stacks vuln with FGS, which equals to 25% more damage. Furthermore, from the traits he gets +10% to burning foes. At the same time he has a chance to burn enemies while landing crits. +20% for enemies below 33% health, +10% if the enemy is 600 units away or closer, +20% if attuned to water and another 10% crit damage when using an arcane skill.

So all in all around +50% damage and another +20% when the enemy drops below 33% health, not counting scholar runes.

That also applies to the warrior, which can also reach higher procental damage boosts.

The ranger gets SotW, which is huge. But it barely makes up for the percental boosts other classes get through traits or skills and it does only increase your damage for 8s. That’s enough for low-level dungeons but it wont help you much in higher-level dungeons. Hunter’s Tactics does usually not work if you stack in a corner and scholar runes are fairly unreliable.

As far as weapons go, I’m not exactly sure which ones have true flaws outside of nitpicking small details. I know that a lot of poeple don’t like the 1h sword, but I use it and think it’s amazing in both PvP and PvE content, though I can understand where people have issues with it. I do think that being able to cancel the chain to dodge better would be an important improvement, but I’m not of the opinion that it is a necessary improvement. It would be more Quality of Life than anything.

Not really flaws but I hate sword AA. Also almost all weapons are PvP only. Some warriors complain about their beloved GS isn’t viable in PvP, we have the exact opposite problem.
Axe offhand would be a good PvE weapon if the axe#5 radius would be slightly bigger at base values and if we would be able to move while channeling. Even if we would move 50% slower (like being crippled), that would be a huge improvement. Torch fills no purpose other than getting a firefield. I’m still in favor of MH torch. Think of a firefield which can be reapplied fairly quickly + LH AA. Not sure if the damage would be competitive, it would be still a hybrid weapon I think. Shortbow is also a hybrid weapon and a pretty bad one on top of that. So a nono for PvE. Same goes for dagger. The evade is nice and that’s honestly the purpose of this weapon but that doesn’t change the fact that it’s pretty useless in PvE.
The longbow will be fun in PvE imo but I still would like to see a 3hit AA chain that is slightly stronger than the current AA.
And compared to other classes we lack percental damage boosts.

Well that’s just how you feel. Sure using 1h sword in PvE has a skill cap, but the upcoming damage boost is significant enough to justify that cap (but I still remember them saying before april’s feature patch that they intended to “fix” sword auto attacks so there’s still hope for that).

I do agree that untraited axe 5 is craptastic but the damage on axe 4 justifies carrying it for your mainset offhand for organized groups.

Torch isn’t horrible at all, infact its a DPS boost from sword AA’s when you use it on cooldown(the ticking damage/burn on top of your axe 4 + sword AA’s is good specially on a 4/5/5/0/0 build without much sources of burning in your party, you can also just time it when the ele drops LH). As being a mainhand, I’d rather not be a kittentier dps verson of a staff ele though.

Dagger is there for you to get higher uptime on steady focus(significant dps increase) and on top of that using dagger 5 on cooldown is a DPS increase over Sword AA’s too.

Post patch you can get hit like 10%x3 & 1×25% modifiers with a 6/5/x/x/x build, even 75 more power on top of that when you’re the second ranger, you’ll approximately hit close to a thief/ele with FGS.

No comment on the bows though lol.

It was clearly mentioned that the Tank-Healer-DPS Trinity had no place in this game, yet you’re talking about its absence as if it were some sort of oversight.

There’s nothing wrong about wanting to play how you want, but you’ll have to find like-minded individuals to do so.

Yes and no, they said they weren’t going to do the dedicated tank, healer and dps system, but not once did they say this meant you had to play as a zerker or you’d get nothing but abuse for it. I’m not saying bring back the holy trinity, I’m saying people should get to play support if they want to and not get kicked from parties

But you can play how you want

Yesterday I decided to kitten around, I mean pug with my necro with a condi build.

A guy in the party asked what’s a good weapon set/build for necro and I said dagger/warhon full berserkers etc. or traited axe + lifeblast mightstacking and he asked me why I was using scepter/dagger.

I told him its because I want to kitten around and run condi, didn’t get kicked though (there was a bear bow and a dual sword condi warr in the team too, the other 2 were running decent builds I guess)

TL;DR

There’s a time and place for every build. If youre touring in a premade to farm gold then by all means min-max.

If you just like to waste time and kitten around, play how you want but be sure you’re in a suitable group for it.

Most of these things have NO effect on PvE. Except the new gm trait, these changes are NOT PvE friendly. They are aimed at WvW and PvP exclusively.

If you see a ranger bring GS, LB or Axe mainhand to PvE, that ranger will be booted out of the group before it can even say what its secondary set is.

Ranger PvE performance is 99.9% sword mainhand. If sword mainhand is NOT buffed in damage, then NOTHING changes to PvE meta.

Axe mainhand has been a mixed success in WvW. Its a pain in the kitten to continuously swap targets to get as many bounces as possible, but it works and deals pretty OK damage if using Honed Axes. With might stacking, axe mainhand will be a mesmer/minion mancer/thieves guild/spirit ranger/turret engi killer.

Signet of Strength + Beastmasters Might + fortifying bond = potentially 5 stacks of might to the pet EVERY TWO SECONDS…. that means to stack a River Drake with 25 stacks of might before using its F2 breath attack takes 10 seconds (without using RAO)…. now, for those who KNOWS how hard that drake hits, you see my point. For those who DO NOT KNOW how hard it hits – it will easily land up to 4k damage on a single target without counting in bounces hitting two or more times. And that is a untraited pet (zero BM)…. Add 25 stacks of might and BAM, you get close to 6k pet burst, all it takes is some AA spam and a bit lazy F2 management.

Actually, sword damage has been buffed indirectly.

Predator’s onslaught will be procced by the cripple in Sword auto attack chain(2.5s cripple with 6 in Marksmanship over a 1.5s chain) and not by GS/LB. This combined with SoTW is a huge increase in damage.

For conjure weapons, if you pick up FGS you can cast Entangle before activating SoTW you can get all those damage modifiers on your Rush.

Offhand axe 4 velocity buff is a good change for pve too.
GS buff also gives ranger better trash mob damage.

Ranger / engineer changes and Meta.

The signet change is really nice for rangers, personally it was tedious to keep swapping between remorseless, SoTB and bountiful hunter every encounter if you want to maximize your damage.

Highest personal DPS after patch will probably be 6/5/0/3 with predator’s onslaught and 1h sword being more important than before (good cripple uptime even to legendary mobs to proc predator’s onslaught) and SoTW will be in your skill bar always just like Frost Spirit.

Entangle having the same CD as SoTW would probably be also more useful(significant bleed damage and immob to trigger predator’s onslaught) for cases where you don’t need the Fury from RaO.

I am experimenting with rabid, at the moment. I think rabid is meant for SB.

I do it slightly different than you, though. I let my pets deal most of the bleeding and focus on fire, ice and poison. I also stick to melee weapons. Most of the active posters on these forums don’t understand the mechanics of the game, so you won’t get much support here—despite endless posts with percentages and fluffy math. The best way to estimate damage is using addition. Just add up the damage dealt over time against a specific foe.

Conditions are applied to foes via a weighted queue that has a size of 9. Conditions with the highest damage get moved to the top of the queue and “bump” weaker conditions down the queue. For open world PvE it is best to have over 1950 in condition to stay in the queue. The vast majority of players avoid conditions altogether, or go weakly into them (500-800) so you won’t have any trouble.

The concept of Legendary Weapon’s is: “Working hard to get ingredient, sooner or later.” Even if you put 6 months 1 year or 2. It is guaranteed, sooner or later, you get the ingredient.

Everyone has guaranteed to have sooner or later, an ingredient that has a price (extreme) increases again again and again? No, no guarantee, nothing.

For many people, get a precursor, it is to be a dog running around a tree to catch his own tail.

This ingredient with an extreme price, month after month after month is broken.

It is time to repair with craft or others because the guaranteed, today, is EXTREMELY broken.

Highest buy offer for dusk is 1300g right now. You can do 30g a day without TP flipping or hugely lucky drops, so that’s like 44 days for a precursor, and it costs roughly 1300g for the rest of the mats. That’s 3 months for a whole legendary.

You’re hugely overestimating how long it takes to get it done.

If other people can buy precursors by simply farming, it only shows that someone who is a “a dog running around a tree to catch his own tail” is simply not trying hard enough or doing it wrong.

And as soon as Anet is crazy enough to make it too easy to acquire precursors, I’m 100% sure people will be whining alot more about T6 mats/lodestones/fine mats being too expensive and other crafting non-legendary costs going sky high as collateral damage(mainly exotic and ascended grade gear which involves a greater amount of the playing population compared to legendary weapon crafters).
