I haven’t tried it yet, and i don’t think I will use it in the future. I’d rather have everything downloaded and loaded in my PC before playing a game , even if it means to leave it downloading a whole night.

I don’t want to run the game, and find that there are some missing assets because they haven’t been downloaded yet, or play with crappy low quality textures until I get the good ones from the server, or discover glitches caused to resources not yet downloaded.

Hi there.
I had this same issue and I believe it is related to email addresses with special characters or maybe to hotmail addresses.

Also checked my spam folder but found no newsletter.

Too bad, I realized that I wasn’t subscribed today. I wanted to hop on beta too, but now I won’t (kitten bugs)

Second Ladder Test Season

Jade Arkadian.9280

I think 8 weeks is way too long for a season ladder but well…. IMO you should increase the rewards since players are required to stay in the ranking for even more time than previous seasons.

BTW, what happened to the dishonor system you announced for the previous season? Are you going to enable it someday? I’m tired of AFK trolls not being penalized on ranked…

Some of my guildies have noticed that under certain conditions, you can get almost every single GW1 Achievement.

Personally I hate the idea that some people have earned through exploiting a bug the same rewards and titles that costed me years of playing through GW1.
My “God amongs mere mortals” titles is now completely meaningless

Even people who don’t have their account linked to GW1 got all of those rewards -_-

Well, since you can spam them as long you have enough energy, it would be reasonable that revenants shouldn’t learn and equip their skills just like the other classes.

Or maybe you are allowed to equip skill from a pool just like the other professions, as long they match the equiped legend (maybe there are more Mallyx/Jalis skills and they just showed some on this POI)

My Greatest Fear Plotline

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Jade Arkadian.9280

Jade Arkadian.9280

I just wanted to provide an update since it’s been a while.

  • We are currently working to restore the Greatest Fear storyline to the live game. I can’t provide a release date at this point.
  • In addition to restoring the Personal Story steps to their original order we’re making some minor improvements where possible (e.g. recording new VO or updating certain conversations, etc.).

We’ll provide additional details closer to release. Thanks much for your patience.

That’s all well and good. Nice to know you are getting down to fixing it. Now, that just leaves the issue on characters who have been through the botched PS. Will you by some chance, make it replayable like you did with the Living Story? Because if I have to grind my charr character just to see the fixed version, that’s just bullcrap. :/

The Personal Story was never designed to be replayable on a single character, so making a change like that would involve a lot of revision (updating and testing hundreds of story steps). It’s simply out of scope.

The updated story steps will start with A Light in the Darkness.

A possible solution to include replayability without messing with previous character path could be that options that involve a chapter choice could be locked on a second playthrough.
This way, your personal story would be replayable.
If by any chance you want to try other paths or order, you should create a new character.

  • Open beta code and headstart

How many Specializations per Profession?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Jade Arkadian.9280

Jade Arkadian.9280

This is just pure speculation but I don’t think specialization will necessarily grant the use of a new weapon to a class.

Maybe some classes will have specializations that involves a different use of a weapon that they actually have use, such a warrior using its longbow in a ranger-like way, or a thief using P/P to spread multi-target conditions such as confusion and torment.

Jade Arkadian.9280

Sure I will buy it! Shut up and take my money!

I don’t think HoT will cost more than 30$ since it is an expansion, and usually expansions don’t cost that much because it’s a product that requires the original game.

But that may be different for GW2.
Remember that both Factions and Nightfall cost 60$ at release (But I believe that was because they were stand alone games and not proper expansions as GW:EN)

Who named the elder dragons?

Might sound like a dumb question but…who named the elder dragons in Tyria?

I mean, it was like that as soon Mordremoth awakened, almost every NPC in the pact learned his name…and I don’t recall him coming to us and say: “Hey guys! My name is Mordremoth!”

The same could be said for the other dragons. The dragons got their own name but how the people of Tyria learned them if the dragons didn’t introduced themselves and aboe that there is very little knowledge about them from the past?

[Suggestion] Restrict ranked arena access

in PvP

Posted by: Jade Arkadian.9280

Jade Arkadian.9280

So I’m sure we’ve all queued in ranked arena with 4 people and getting a pug that does not communicate at all and has no concept of teamplay while being against a full organised team. This was not that big of an issue previously since people that pugged team arenas generally had some desire to communicate with a team otherwise they would just solo queue.

One suggestion I have is to have a minimum number of unranked games won before being allowed to enter ranked arena, therefore requiring a minimum amount of team arena experience before being allowed to play games that affect the ranking of the rest of your team. What wouldn’t work is total games played or using rank as an indicator, since custom arenas do not promote any kind of team play.

I also support that but for slightly different reasons. I believe that actually ranked games are really an unfriendly place for beginners and should be locked until you have won at least, let’s say, 5 unranked games. This way, beginners would be better prepared to face whatever they meet on ranked game.
This should be part of the NPE.

5? make it 300…that is still nothing (Since we’re talking about experience after many thousands competitive matches, and i mean competitive not hotjoin or practice bs) but maybe, just maybe, they would be able to stomp and rez…at least

Then that would be elitism and by all means, undesirable since it haunts players from PvP instead of encourage them to give it a try.
There is point where you have already learned the basics and you are ready to play ranked. The rest comes with experience on the field.

I suspect by your words that you only care for your own victory. You shouldn’t think of other players as simple minions to your service. They just come in all flavors and shapes, and usually do their best

I don’t think it is elitist to meet a certain requirement to do ranked…it’s just to make sure that you know at least the basics of a PvP match.
Newbies shouldn’t do ranked if they never played PvP before because they will be pretty much lost, they will be smashed over and over, and in the end their teammates will rage against them… Do you think that first experience in PvP would be enjoyable for a newcomer? I don’t think so…

I don’t like the idea at all. It’s just a tool for PuG elitism.
There are already some dummys that request 5k AP in the LFG, wrongly believing that thats a way to know if you are good enough for their l33t party which will pretty much disband as soon there is a wipe because it’s a waste of time. (IMO, it’s sad the fact that some players can’t have fun without cheesing the instance)

If you really need that kind of tools because you can’t trust PuGs, then you should run dungeons only with guildies, with friends or solo.

Above that, there are better things to code and develop that making something only aimed to a very specific and small type of players.

Concerned about Toxic PvP Players

I’ve read each post since my last, but well, i will trying to do an overall reply.

For those who say “Get a thicker skin”, “Deal with it”,“Rudeness is part of the game”,“They deserve it for doing ranked” or defend in any way toxic behaviour against certain players, you should know the following:

According to Guild Wars 2 Rules of Conducts (click here to take a look) and refering to the text on point 1:

The rules of conduct

1. While playing Guild Wars 2, you must respect the rights of others and their rights to play and enjoy the Game. To this end, you may not defraud, harass, threaten, embarrass or cause distress and/or unwanted attention to other players. This includes posting insulting, offensive, or abusive comments about players, repeatedly sending unwanted messages, reporting players maliciously, attacking a player based on race, sexual orientation, religion, heritage, etc. Hate speech is not tolerated

The point is that you are defending and excusing something that goes against the RoC.

Also let me say that this is not really the harsh language , but about the will to harass and hurt from others, and that may extend not only to insults and harassing, but also to AFK and losing on purpose.

So… if their behaviour is against the RoC.. why should I turn off my chat? No, the problem is on their side, and their should hold their tongues if they know what’s convenient for them because each time you insult a player, you are a step closer to the ban hammer.

My enjoyment of the game has totally been ruined by toxic players that send insults after insults at me over the interwebs over a vidya game. Anet should totally ban all these immature toxic players, so that I can continue playing GW2 in a family friendly setting, so that all my matches are full of nice carebears.

Too much whining. “Rudeness” cannot be policed or enforced without completely removing chat from the game, is that what you want? They don’t like the way you play, and you don’t like they way they talk. Too bad. If you want to teach people manners go volunteer to work with orphans or something.

I hear Hello Kitty Island Adventures is on sale.

Don’t get it wrong: Being respectful to others has nothing to do with Hello Kitty, ponys or fluffy bears.

That’s an extreme case of harrasing. If I had been harassed that way, I would not only reported in game and blocked the guy, but also raised a ticket just to make sure it is reviewed. That sort of players are extremely toxic regardless the game you play.

I’d suggest to edit that pic to censor the names since the forums are not a place to point at specific players

And I rage too sometimes at home, but I hold myself because i know it’s rude, unnecessarily and useless . Banging your keyboards to show off how bad they are, insult them in anyway and finally send them back to PvE or whatever it’s just destructive ranting that won’t simply change anything but worsening things.

As I previously said, it’s not worth the effort since you will be:
- Flammed back
- Be blocked
- Report you (even if it doesnt do nothing apparently, being repeatedly reported by different users may eventually draw the attention of a GM)

Like I said before I don’t support flamers, but I think self righteous complainers are just as bad. Ignore it and play the game. If you cant do that, if what someone else on the internet bothers you so much then Internet gaming is not for you. You can try to be the white knight spouting off the games rules but anet would lose almost half it’s player base if everyone that has ever flamed got banned. This isn’t a game made just for you and your friends to play and get along its a money making endeavor for a business. Keep that in mind.

Just ignore the flamers just ignore.

It’s true that if they were pretty strict on their rules, game would be half-empty, but I’ve witnessed some cases that are way too offensive to be tolerated in any way, and that must be stopped.
As you say, I could just ignore it, but that’s not good enough in some cases since leaving troll players prancing around the game only hurts the game itself. It’s not only limited to PvP. Do you think it would be ok to leave gold sellers spam as they want just because you can ignore them too? Of course not.

Ok, i want to give my opinion with out sounding to rude.
First this is an online game , and bad language is part of it, ofc when i say bad language i mean words like noob nab kitten idiot newb ….
I dont tolerate words like n………r or c……..t or any type of racism.
When u playing and u see that all team is double capping or dying to svanir or trying to stomp a thief insted of rezzing you , you know …things like that, i flame and i rage, i do the same in real life when i go see some football at the stadium.
my point is ( and this is the part that i will try not to sound too rude) if u cant handle " bad language" or being told what to do something , in a fast and more efficient way, pliz dont join a team and dont play online games, simple as that.

And I rage too sometimes at home, but I hold myself because i know it’s rude, unnecessarily and useless . Concerned about Toxic PvP Players

in PvP

Posted by: Jade Arkadian.9280

Jade Arkadian.9280

To quote one of my old posts:

I honestly wouldn’t mind if the toxic community was limited to Heart of the Mists. Unfortunately (but consequently), you often get to deal with them at all time during PvP matches.

Someone throws themselves against 4 enemy players and gets downed instantly. Team chat becomes filled with caps since you went to capture a point instead of trying to revive them (and now they’re AFK at base to type angrily).

You fight someone for a good minute, and then your ally finally manages to come and help you. From the moment your opponent dies, you get whispered insults of all colors based on how PvP is supposedly not meant to be about teamwork, and how your life has no value.

You notify someone that being AFK is not an optimal strategy. The answer is nothing short of blame, and questioning your skills as a player, as a human being and as a sentient life form.

The worst I’ve encountered so far was a team of 4 players (in the same guild) who were not only losing on purpose from the very start, but insulting the 5th player on their team restlessly for trying to actually make some points.

I think it’s high time the April 2014 Feature Pack is revised.

Ever since PvP rewards were replaced with PvE rewards, players have been trying to abuse the PvP system to get items with the least amount of effort humanly possible. Now that most players prefer to win over having a good match, it isn’t fun for anyone.

Furthermore, megaservers prevent any sense of community from developing. Since the algorithm is and has been broken from the very start, players are shoved on map copies at absolute random. This allows people who believe in having a sense of anonymity on the Internet to project their lack of self esteem onto others and create an overall deplorable atmosphere.

The solution is extremely simple, but I’m afraid ArenaNet has been going in the exact opposite direction for the last year.

In the meantime, the best you can do is not respond to these players, and block them immediately. I encounter toxic PvP players on a daily basis, and I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve gotten angry whispers from killing someone who had a little too much pride (yet no dignity, apparently).

There’s absolutely nothing you can do about the players themselves. They were raised to be contemptible, and will raise their children the same way.

I knew it since I started typing my first post in this thread: It’s a lost cause but well, I had to share somehow my concern.
I know that some people, well, just won’t change their minds…but well..as you point out, that’s their problem in the end

I believe that Devs do care about a healthy, fun and competitive PvP environment as they are still working on the matchmaking and the dishonor. Also it is worth to mention that they have removed players rank from the score screen to prevent harassing on newbies.

And do you really that will do any good? The answer is obviously No. You will be likely kittened back, blocked and/or even reported for insults if you really offended someone, and being reported again just to double check. Of course, nothing will change for you and the other player.

You can’t say that it won’t do any good, when criticism is a great motivational tool for improvement.

That’s only true for constructive criticism.
Allow me to tell you that saying things like “OMG! Noob team! Please kill our lord!”, “Go back to PvE”, “Our mesmer is a noob” followed by some rants of your choice is far away from being constructive.
I hope you were not thinking about theses as “motivational tools” since they look pretty much insults to me.

Well, If me and my team of pugs happen to be against a premade team in a subsequent and very clear blowout match, and let’s say we are getting farmed, horribly, worsening mine and my team mate’s experience with the game, shall we continue struggling against such foes, or should I (or we) just sit down and let the game finish quickly? Is that ‘poisonous’ too?

By all means, yes, that’s toxic behaviour too. Remember It’s not the same losing 200-500 than 50-500. That’s reflected on the leaderboards in the end according to the Devs.
Surrending for free would also be very uncompetitive from you…if you join a game, play the game!
What would you think if football players sit down on the grass while letting the other team win the match? Well, it’s same principle. If you can’t win, then fight for the best score.

Also think that even if you give up, you teamate may not, and they will need you on the field.

Jade, I can understand why this would upset/annoy you, it does me too from time to time. But I have my own way of dealing it. Where possible, when someone shouts some unconstructive rant at me, I use the opportunity to annoy them. We all need to let off steam from time to time and these ‘people’ are ideal candidates to annoy, in an effort to release pent up frustrations. But by this I do not mean being abusive back in return. No, I mean by playing a fun stress releasing game.

So, where possible, the next time someone shouts at you for doing something they think is wrong, but fails to be polite and/or constructive about it, simply say ‘Thanks for the advise bud, I will do that from now on.’ then proceed to follow them around and do the complete opposite. And every time they say something to you, reply to it as if they are saying the complete opposite.

If you are unable to action your response, sometimes simply intentionally interpreting the opposite of what they are saying can be entertaining enough. Or you could add extra rules to the game, such as seeing how many times you can make them say a specific word before they give up.

This will not work on all of them of course, but you will have a lot of fun doing it anyway. But if you do not have the time, or cannot be bothered, just don’t bother replying to them and have a chuckle to yourself at their expense. I always find it funny when people try to make out they are intelligent by failing to construct polite (or at least non-abusive) feedback.

How I look at it is: Unpolite and unconstructive ‘advise’ (used in the losest sense of the word) should be rewarding to the reciever only, while polite and constructive advise should be rewarding to both parties. So try to turn abusive rants around and make them as entertaining as possible, because they really shouldn’t be dignified by taking them seriously.

Sometimes I do as you say, but sometimes, well. It’s just talking to a wall. They just think that you shouldnt play at all because you made them lost. No explanations…just that.

If people wasnt shielded behind anonymity or they were penalized in some way, I’m sure that most of thoses player who shout destructive rants wouldnt dare to say a single a word to anyone.

Any way, there is one thing that shouldn’t never be forgotten: Respect

Haha! Author probably was 2 hours ago in same game match as I were. There was one mad ranger did all of above mentioned things..

Every 5 games it repeats, appears one guy who tells crap and goes afk, it doesn’t matter if point difference is only 50 points they still go afk/teach everyone.

Probably lol, but I met so many Toxic Players in the last 2 weeks… My block list is full of them! O_o (Censored names BTW)

You shouldnt blame/insult/kitten talk anyone for any reason.
Everyone has been newbie once, people don’t have the same skill, and even the do things that you may find absurd…but that’s not a reason to send them back to PvE or tell them to don’t do ranked. Anyone is free to play any available game mode in the game, and also they shall learn something from defeats, as I, and other players did in the past.
Also I have to say that actually, It’s no their fault they are not being matched with other players of their own skill level
I suggested in the NPE feedback thread why not locking Ranked until you meet certain conditions (Winning 5 unranked matches or something like that) since ranked matches it’s really unfriendly to beginners

If I’m playing ranked and others still haven’t learned the mechanic they deserve to catch some heat. Ranked is supposed to be competitive, not noob central.

And do you really that will do any good? The answer is obviously No. You will be likely kittened back, blocked and/or even reported for insults if you really offended someone, and being reported again just to double check. Of course, nothing will change for you and the other player.

So…Is it really worth the effort of being mean to others? If you dont have nothing good to say just dont say anything and you will be fine.

lol all these “QQ people are mean” threads! How long have you been on the internet!

  • Get thicker skin! There is no internet police!
  • Raging players are hilarious! Stop taking everything so seriously!
  • There is a block function!
  • It’s PvP! In a competitive (lol) scenario, there’s always going to be bm!

Wahoo! Bye frands!

PS Also blame Anet for having just THE WORST matchmaking in the history of games with matchmaking! If they’re going to put beginners and veterans on the same team… No vet wants to play with/against beginners and vice versa! Also blame Anet for not trying to get new players to play their game! One of the reasons why matchmaking is so bad is because of the lack of players!

  • Actually there is some kind of police on GW2 and even on theses forums. GM and Mods are paid for that.
  • Yes, some of them they are fun…but I’m tired of free hate
  • Sure, I mentioned it earlier. Also there is also a report function but i’m not really sure if it does something :/
  • Hmm… (Not really have anything worthy to say about that link)

You are right, that’s why I feel like fighting for a lost cause but I would feel more relieved if there was some justice to discourage that behaviour. I’m not asking for a round of bans or temp account suspension (Which wouldn’t be that bad…)

I think the Dishonor system was the first stone on that, but it’s actually not working and even if it worked as intended I think it should be improved in a way it could punish people who are toxic.

You shouldnt blame/insult/kitten talk anyone for any reason.

Hi there! Today I drop here to talk about a concern I am recently having about the insane amount of Toxic Players on PvP ranked match.

By Toxic Player I mean people that behave in way that it hurts the game and even other player’s feelings. Some examples would be:

  • Players who AFK because they just give up and think it’s not worth playing. (yeah, they still do that knowing that the Dishonor it’s actually turned off or doesn’t work properly). Some of them even do give advice to the contrary team!
  • Players that harass, makes fun of and insults other players because they apparently come from PvE/they don’t play well enough/don’t follow their orders.
  • Players who just insult and blame their teamates after/during a lost game. Very common on sore loser who think they were awesome but their teamates failed.
  • Rage leavers (theses are actually punished on their leaderboard score anyway)

Personally, I both block and report those players (and even sometimes I send them a last message warning them about their rudeness).
I know that sometimes people just have bad days and cant hold their tongues. No one enjoys the taste of defeat, and I also sometimes rage too at home when I lose a match after another, but that’s not reason to behave that way or being rude. If you have nothing good to say, simply you shouldn’t say anything at all…

I am seeing that behaviour over and over is way disturbing, and I feel somehow fighting for a lost cause , and it will be always be like this until there is some action from above.
It’s not pleasant at all reading chat messages from a experienced player telling other ones to uninstall the game or to go back to PvE.

Above that, and also more disturbing to my understanding, I also noticed that some of theses toxic players are on the first page of the PvP Leaderboards (Sorry, not going to give names or hints about what region I am talking about), and well, it’s pretty troublesome that theses player are not only not being punished in any way for that kind of behaviour, but they are also going to be rewarded with juicy stuff!!

What do you think about this?
