what happened to Garm again?

in Lore

Jaken.6801

They rather already are, since now the biconics are so interested in fighting the Elder Dragons, and both Braham and Marjory talk about “our guild” when you talk to them after killing Mordy.

I think that has been confirmed by their dialog.
I think Rytlock even aproves of them.
Oh and appearently we got a leading position.. again… seriously, we need to get these memos earlier.
I mean, what if something bad happens and we are responsible all of a sudden.

Back to Garm
If he is not forgotten by the plot (like many others), he might have survived.
Though here are some other ideas:
- Mordem Garm pack that will attack
- Garm survives, is found by Braham but rejects him. Now he has to prove himself to be worthy (which he theoreticaly did, by fighting Eir in Mordys mind, but Garm didn´t see that)
- Garm finds his way home, via Asura Gate, tail wagging, asking: what took you so long?
- Garm is mourning at Eirs rest (btw. we need a place called that), protecting her in the jungle for all eternity, which would be kinda cool and a plotpoint they could take up later on.
- Garm stumbles into the mists and becomes a mist wolf and thus the base for the gem-shop/deluxe edition elite
- Garm takes up a sword and shield and becomes the sungod… oh wait, that was Okami… (yeah, DS is cool, but I prefer this sword wielding wolf)

Anyway, I just hope they give him a proper send of, no matter where he ends up.

that legendary shortbow looks so bad….I mean…..ugly as hell…..6 months for developing it?? kitten .

This and the others.
Then talking intern with other developers, getting in touch with the lore people to have it fit in, reworking, changing, having a life or other things to do, beside legendarys…

Seriously. If you don´t like it, don`t craft it.
For me it is more serious than the the dreamer and as such it serves it´s purpose.

Now I just have to use it on anyone.

As for playing Dragonhunter.
Play however you like. We got no real reason why Guardians call themselves DH, or why they use bows.

Officialy it was a throw away idea, that ended up being something along the line of old fashioned vampire/demon/witch hunter or so.

They say, that they hunt everything that is dragon, which opens another bag of worms (Like how they would go out and hunt Sylvari, as they are from the dragon for example)

So yeah. Their mission is basicaly the same as every order. Just a special guardians club or so. They bet they even got a special handshake.

All joking and bashing aside. DH are suppsosedly extreme against everything dragon. Let your witch hunter, lawful good side out and have some fun.

You are butchering your own game with this.

With what exactly?

The map is empty and its so frustrating to solo anything , i didn’t buy this game to get a headche.

I usually see people running around, maps aren’t always full, but that is a given. It depends on when i am online.
That is just not something that it easy to fix.
What else?

i mean its doable its just frustrating. so if anyone gan reply to me ‘’ L2P NUB !! ’’ well i know how to kittening play its just i dont want to spam refresh party search waiting for the meta to happen so i can get rewards easy like everyone is doing

So, you say you know how to play. Then you say everyone is able to get easy exp.
Then you complain, because you aren’t able to do it. Isn’t that contradicting?

Also, you say that it is doable. Which measn you know how it should be done, but you don’t want to do it?

i wanna play the game and enjoy the game not die every second because the map is empty because nobody want to do it because its hard .

please nerf kthnxbai

All joking aside. Yes, the way the new maps work isn’t perfect.
However it is, as you say, doable.

They are aware of the problem and want to change it.

Canach doesn’t follow the professions. He uses a sword and shield , bombs and landmines so is he a warrior or engineer?

He’s the one…

The only…

WARGINEER!

There were others, but then there was the whole cutting of heads thing and… we don´t talk about these times.

Then again it would be nice if we get a nice sidestory with Garm.
Maybe we can follow his way through the jungle and how he finds something.
Anything interesting.
Maybe a pact of wolves who fight of Mordrems and he takes the lead, leaving Braham to part with him and getting some inspiation.

On multiple professions
Didn´t they just become out of style, as more magic was released over the time and fixating on one profession was more profitable?

Overall our professions are just a fraction of their whole power. Even at ax level, we just followed a certain part of the profession and not it´s whol spectrum.

That´s why we see others who call themselves our profession, being able to perform other abilities.

Then there is the whole balancing issue, etc. , but that is more a gamemechanic thing

That´s their way to reduce costs.

Just look at the champion box weapons. Most of them aren´t new things, but reused assets, found somwhere else in the game.

Add a clean texture here, some magical effects fairy dust there, maybe something moving on the handle.
Voila, new weapon.

But in all seriousnes, using the basic template to create a new weapon or give it a new spin is just cost effiecient and I personaly don´t mind it, if they don´t go too far.

I mean, ascended weapnons are based on the first wintersday gemstore weapons way back.

The mists make up everything and thus contain everything in time and space.

In some part of the mists these being can all be well alive and if you look at fractals, we can even interact with them in some form.

The mists is not the realm of the dead, but everything. Think multi-dimension theory.

We invoke echoes of beings from any time and space.

Lol, communicating he might be doing, but it smells entirely like a PR handling approach, kittening obnoxious with no apology in sight. I’m sure thats the communication everyone wanted.

Well, that is something he has to show by delivering.
If we call him a liar before he was able to prove he is able to deliver anything in his new position, than it is just unfair.

Sure he was harsh in his explanations, but I do not believe the position he is in is easy.
Remember the internet is an unthankful place.
Everything you try to do good, someone somewhere will break it.

The way I see it, the problem is that the decision was made to go back on their word regarding new legendary weapons, which was something players paid for when they bought HoT. He made this decision instead of another one – like adding more people to the legendary team so they could finish the weapons in a timely manner and give the players content they paid for. Or reassessing the timeline for the weapons and announcing that.

It’s hard to believe that the only possible solution was to scrap everything. I would think they’d be concerned about that new expansion they’re already working on and whether people are going to trust that they’ll get what is going to be promised for the next one.

I mean, why do I want to buy another expansion with promised content that may or may not get scrapped after I pay for it?

I think we simply have not enough information here to say anything about it.
There might be other ways, but right now they think that this is the best decission, hard as it might be (and yeah, people tend to forget that just because he is the Lead now, Mike isn’t the only one holding the reins. Same goes for Colin)

Mike was on Colin’s orifice smoke blowing hype train too. Lordie, why are people missing that fact? Mike was at the head of it… he was the freakin’ co-conductor!

It’s late, but I’ve got pics to put the whole slew of em’ on a hype train tomorrow like I did for Colin’s Gem and Gold Coin banner, if that’d make everyone happy.

Point is, they were a team, for years. One was made a scapegoat from how it’s looking in hindsight, and simply put and he’s not here to share his side. Let it go.

Wish Mr. O’Brien luck and carry on. Hope it nets you the advances you’re hoping to see.

Sure thing. We can only wait and see. He was there as well and might be the change some are waiting for.
Legendarys are certainly a downer, though we have to see we get instead.

And right now no one makes someone a scapegoat. However if people praise Colin, just because Mike comes out and flat out says: Sorry we can’t deliver what was said under Colin. Then is it is kinda weird, isn’kitten
There are enough PR rules out there that would hinder something like this.

Again missing too many information here sadly.

Bottom line is. We should all calm down and see what happens before we start roasting anyone.
I mean, if things are really so dire, the new leas starts off with a big handicap anyway.

Jaken.6801

So yeah.
Someone took over for a few days now.
Starts to do exactly what players wanted (communication).
Tries to please the playerbase (even with questionable decisions).
And still gets hate?

What is wrong here? Please tell me?

The development process is a mess and players were critizing it for a long time.
The lack of events and content is one major problem, as it was the case before HoT and now six month after.

He tries to adress that problem by pulling back people, he knows that can handle that, but are not as good elswhere (appearently the legendary team, which for some reason didn`t worked as fast as it should, thus will be re-evaluated and continued at a later state.)
There is appearently no good deccision to make here.
If he goes as far, as to pull back on legendarys to support a constant content flow, than it means he has not much of a choice.

We are not the devs. We don’t know the reccources. We don’t know the mess.

Even if there are systems in place for easy legendary deployment. It appears that the current team just wasn’t good enough for the task and can be utilized better elsewhere.

I mean, seriously. I am by no means a white knight, I take my jabs at the game enough, but I can undertstand someone who is taking over chaos, trying to sort it out.

That is what happened here.

If Mike has to cut like this, to entertain us and Collin at the helm of the so called hype train was just riding the hot air that his leadership has produced, than i rather take the cold iron grip of reality instead of the comfy clouds that only lead to a freefall as there is no ground to stand upon.

I mean come on. We loose legendarys for some time. However if what he says is true, we will end up with new things to do ingame instead.
Things that are not restricted to legendary-hunter and richer playerbase but for all players.

Sure these weapons would be nice, but if they finaly get things into game that people were begging for, I am all for it.
Maybe an event-chain that allows us to get the tribal outfit finaly?

Jaken.6801

I am kinda intrigued by the idea of the leftover minions fighting amongst each other for the ED energy, but not in GW2, as their pacing does not allow for these big stories, where we would be introduced to several low ranking powerhouses, trying to compete with each other.

It would be an interesting concept, though, as someone has to prove to be strong enough to wield it.

It’s great that we got confirmation that ED energy does work like normal energy and that it really is just redistributed through the world and its catalysts.

It is also interesting to hear, that rituals or magic that has been cast by EDs will not just stop functioning, but will continue to feed of the ambivalent ED energy, even after the caster has been dealt with.

This would explain why we were not able to clean Orr and why Tequattle is still around and stronger.
Though It would also mean that we should get an Orr revamp at some point, with some harder encounters throughout the map and the pact trying to clean it.
It just makes sense naratively and would create some new and exciting endgame content, that doesn’t disturb the PS storyline (since it’s instanced and the mechanics of the map are no real hindrance anymore).

Regarding the pact.
The pact is fine. Don’t hate the pact.
It is the writers and the pacings fault, that we are not experience enough order adventures.

I bet if they had the reccources to do so, the whole Order stuff would be greatly enhanced with things people we asking for a long time. Something like Order missions, ranks, etc.

Also, the Orders are still present in the story. In LS1 with Scarlet it wasn’t the pact that investigated everything. It was the Orders. A OoW agent infiltrated the Molten Alliance. The Priory was conducting research at the Tower of Nightmares and the Vigil was protecting and sheltering the people of Lions Arch.

The Pact was only reintruduced in the middle of LS2. Every encounter before was not under the pacts Banner. (Even though it was heavily Priory based. Priory was moving magical objects and the Priory is the place we went for knowledge)

GW2 is more than the Orders and I don’t think focusing on them in the main storyline is the way to go, as it wouldn’t make much sense. They compete with other races and organizations (Lions Guard, Seraphs, Legions, etc. ).

They need focus beyond the story. They need a seperate developement.

Jaken.6801

My biggest question would be if it is possible to set a team aside to enhance old maps.
It is something ou tried when then the game was young (the first halloween) and declared it a failure, since not many people were mention it.

However now, with many people more familiar with all aspects of the game, additions like these would feel like the world is slowly expaning and changing, like the living world that was supposed to be out there.

It could be light story influenced changes (like a group of Sylvari being hunted by traitor pact soldiers and you have to save them),a little side-story for the region or some expansion, like a mini dungeon or a jumping puzzle.

Glider Suggestions? Share Them Here!

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Jaken.6801

Just some quick ideas, to transform some older backpacks into glider, allowing for some progression outside the gemstore:

Fractal backpack Glider:
- Mirror it so it is two of the open circles with the glowing cube in it and the cloth pointing down. It would look like a drone lifting mechanism that way.
Some little FX and it would be pretty nice.

Bladed Wings:
- These are allready a jetpack + Wings, why arent they Gliders yet?

Molten jetpack:
- It is a jetpack…

Guild Backpack:
- Have the Guild Backpack open up to something like a parachute, or a simple glider with the Guilds logo on it. Maybe a cleaner texture

Order Backpacks:
- have them be able to let out fitting wings at their last incarnation (T3), the Virgil one allready has a wing motive, the OoW has feathers and the Priory could go crystal.

Gods Backpacks:
- All of the gods bckpacks should be able to fly in some form. If they don`t look allready like they could sprout wings, have them do it. Be it fire with balthazar or litteraly have Melandrus sprout wings…

Holographic Wings:
- I think they explain themselves. We allready sestablished hard light holograms, so it is feasable.

Book Backpacks:
- Most of them are magical, so have them open up and their pages create wings.

Hobo-Tron Backpack
- How about some helicopter blades of him, You kow, like in Ratchet and Clank?

Thats about the general ones I can come up with just from the established backpacks.
Other than that, some other ideas would be:

- Mechanical Wings (Think Archangel of X-Men)
- Baloon Glider (Think Pixars Up, though it might obscure things)
- Engineer Drone Glider (Four drones attach cables to your character and lift you through the sky)

Gotcha, although that wall doesn’t protect Krytans any more than Ascalonians- from my understanding, it only shields Mantle remnants, and perhaps Lazzy.

I think I made a mistake.
I was actually refering to the Walls towards the east of LA in GW1.
Which protected the city and Kryta from the dangers of the swamp and mountains.

Which in hindsight could only be the natural border wall, but it is still interesting to see how the walls of LA cut of things from the core.

Can’t think of any wall associated with the White Mantle, but I’m going to chime in against the pro-human idea. Between the sacrifices of the Chosen, the civil war to hold onto power, and the fact we never heard about them putting any focus into the non-human raiders in the countryside, I’d be willing to wager that they killed a fair bit more humans than charr, or anything else. Add in that their puppetmasters aren’t human, and it’d be easier to characterize the cult as anti-human. The only ones they showed much regard for were their own or potential converts.

Well, there is that big wall in verdant brink which was a big mystery before the raid wings release.
They bring us behind the wall.

Jaken.6801

The political angle could work, though.

We know Caudecus works with the Bandits, who are the white mantle, subsequently he “works” for the possible Mursaat.

We know the people are restless, because the Sylvari are exposed as ED minions, which in turn could make them more cautious against other races, as they could turn out to be the same.
For example Norn and Jormag.
We all know how easy it could be to influence the unthinking majority.

With Queen Jenna in a shaky position and pushing for peace, the weary population and even more the 1% could turn their back and cut off support, getting Caudecus in a favourable position.

And what does our new leader bring with him? His alliance, his helpers, an army to protect, the White Mantle.

250 years have passed and there might be someone who wants to use the name for “good”.

By all means, being a white mantle was a prosperous position. It held power.
Like Clone Troops in Star Wars, which turned into the Storm Trooper.

Its all a matter of perspective and with the right man on the front, things can look different.

Vote Caudecus #MakeTyriaSaveAgain (I actually dont know how that hastagging and Trumping really works, so… please excuse that joke)

I think i read somwhere that their biggest stick was that they wanted to protect humanity first, then the rest.

Them building a wall to keep everything dangerous out as much as possible as well protecting “their” people (not the acalonians, who were settled outside in the wilderness, till they were proven worthy i presume).

However it might be just that GW1 was just too human centric and it worked.
Either you are with us or against us.

The Mursaat using xenophobic tendencies, godlike apearence and the promise of ascension, power and protection could do the rest.
You were chosen, Humans are the chosen race, etc.

It might be things got mingled in the mind.

As for Cantha… I just want to be on the “negotiations” of Tyria and Cantha:
“Wait, you are big cat. Get out.”
“But I am the ambassador.”
“We don`t conduct any trade or negotiation with animals. Also, is that a walking plant?”
“If I recall right your people trapped souls in trees and have them fight for you.”
“Right, you can pass.”

Well times are changing.
Maybe the “pro human” White Mantle became open for change and allows “alliances”.

The fact that the Mursaat were controling them in the past might have just used their hate against the Charr and others to keep them under control.

It is a different time now. Who knows what the plan is now.

I am more interested in the size of the possible army they are hiding.
The non-bandit troops. Are they just stationed behind that wall, or were they breeding and training in another dimension for 250 years.

Jaken.6801

So my idea of a Mursaat surviving and building an army of white mantle to come back, ursup the throne in DR (or more) with Caudecus is even more likely.

If we get them to start an crusade against the other races (white mantle was pro human and aginst everything else, that was their hook) it could be interesting, however I don`t think we will get into these subtle planned political attacks and wide spread chaos between the races.

I agree that we dont need to play the raid to understand further involvement, though.
We know about the white mantle/bandit involvement from the core game and some hints later through LS and HoT.
We know that there is a political struggle.

The raid would just be the story on how we find out about him and what was going on.
A nice little sidestory that gives us insight on what the WM had done the last few years.
Dropping them back in the new lore, with enough connection to not confuse too many player.

And even then, it would be the old trope of “something or someone was behind it all”.

IF they are clever and play out all their cards, we could be in for a neat little ride.
Hopefully they don`t start cutting too much again.

Raids lore richer than living world

in Lore

Posted by: Jaken.6801

Jaken.6801

I think the idea of them being richer is simply because it does use some old and established lore.

While nostalgia might play an factor here, I think the main reason is that the “new” lore, GW2 is trying to establish, just doesn`t feel good enough in compairson to the the “older” ones right now.

Too many questions, too many weird turns, too many loose ends.

While everyone wants to know how it continues, i believe a lot of people also fear the many many unfinished parts of the story that might never be concluded.

The white mantle story was “concluded” in the original Guild Wars, with only few “big” questions and the raid is actually taking them is about to answer them (we will see how this will play out).

GW2 and HoT does not try to answer at the moment. While they include the old elements and try to tackle some older mysteries it is just focused on creating their own path, their own story.

While this is certainly not bad, it just feels like they don`t use the fundament they build upon isn`t unsed to it`s fullest and they just try to build a tower on top of it.
The higher it gets, the more it will tumble if it doesnt expand at the bottom.

Right now the raid is giving people what they crave for. A conclusion to something, which is still missing from the living world and HoT.

Even if people are not knowing what the white mantle it, if they are just a bit interested in the lore they will stumble upon their significance. They hear other players talk about them, they hear the veterans, they will get pulled along or be intruiged.

While some are put off, like the people who are not willing to do a bit of research or dont read the information that is scattered in the raid, many will find enough to stay invested.

I mean, WoW wouldn`t work, if people would complain that there is lore from the good old strategy game time.

(do we really need another why i hate hot story thread?)

No, but Slowpoking is a troll who keeps arguing for the sake of bashing ArenaNet left and right. It’s why I stopped responding.

And though this post will probably get an infraction and deletion because I used the t word, I hope others see this and stop the pointless discussion with someone who won’t stop arguing.

There is a particular quote that comes to mind: Don’t argue with idiots, for they will bring you down to their level and beat you with years of experience.

Ah yes, the old “call them a troll if you can’t get them to agree with you, because no one should be allowed to disagree with you” tactic.

While I agree that calling him a troll might be too much, not responding to him is actually the only way right now, since he ignores one crucial fact, in favour of his own headcannon.
Mordremoth ended up only as a stepping stone for the overall plot, however he argues on and on about how he should have been handled better and more dangerous.
Something no one disagrees with, but he still bombarded further and further with questions about why he wasn`t handled better and why he wasn`t a better villian.

It just doesn`t make sense, if the answer is allready given multiple times and he asks them again and again, like he wants to force his head through a wall, instead of using the big neon lit door.

However again. Not the topic of this thread.

Jaken.6801

Not the egg, but it`s purpose.
It is key to a greater sheme. Something we don`t know about yet in full.

We know parts of it.

If some of the theories are correct, then the egg could be dangerous to an eldar dragon (for example the benevolent ED theory, or the bloodstone substitute theory).

So yes. All of these are ways, in which the egg (and the sourounding things in motion) could harm Mordremoth or the other eldar dragons in the long run.

And no, he is only Sauron if we condense the story to only have it be HoT. However we are talking about a story that is much bigger.
Another example:
Darth Vader. Big bad guy for one movies, then suddenly second fiddle to the emperor who is real big bad.

It is all about perspective and I am sorry, Mordremoth is just a stepping stone for the whole story.
We will go through every dragon like that everntually, if there isn`t a plottwist changing the status quo.

The egg in that case would be the one ring, found in the hobbit, thus becoming relevant only years later in LotR.

Also, when do you understand that no one argues with you that the story execution was not done well?
The story they intended was sound. Why do you keep argueing that they didn`t focus enough on Mordy, etc… if almost everyone is agreeing with you that they botched the execution?

Also, we are offtopic with this whole thing anyway, so please, back on track? This is about S3 and not how good or bad HoT was.

Yeah. These are extra suplementing stuff, that might tell us the real purpose, but right now it is all hidden and as you say till it isn`t spelled out directly for us, thus creating a tension which just doesn`t have to be.

Right now, because everyone is acting as if they are doing the greater good , we get pushed around as puppets in a greater game, not being able break out of.

That being said, most of the things are declared as theories and no as facts.

Even the forgotten, the ones who are the oldest, are just speaking from their experiences.
Even in their time the dragons rose and started consuming magic. That time the bloodstone was created and the dragons were stopped or made belief that they fulfilled their duty and went back to slumber (sure, they killed most races at that time, but that is their colleteral i presume).

I doubt the Forgotten know the reasons for the EDs existance. Is it just power that created them (as there is no telling of one being slain, thus they might not know the true potential of the Dragon Energy and how it migh choose a new host), or do they have a deeper meaning.

We can asume that Glaust/Glint, might know more, as she lived longer then them and was actually part of the enemy, but that doesn`t mean she knows all.

In fact, it could put her in a more dangerous position in the whole story, but the glint is not as benevolent as she seems theories are not liked as much here.

That being said, our sources in that regard are pretty uneven.
I would like more sources to be found first and more sincerity from the ones who deliver these plans which are for centuries in motion.

We still got some old folks around and other sources to tap into. It would be foolish to follow a prophecy, without some more background checks.

On the other hand it could be as simple and the egg is our lord and saviour.

No, you tried to say the egg is as important as Mordremoth.

I didn’t try to say it.

I did say it.

While I agree with Jaken that our allies should stop being so xlemfrogomming secretive, and with Athrenn that by this time we should have been told what’s going on more explicitly rather than being left to the people who pay attention to figure it out, we’re given the pieces we need to know. Ogden tells us outright that both too much and too little magic would destroy Tyria. The Elder Dragons, although they don’t do so deliberately, play a part in preventing magic from going to the ‘too much’ side. When we kill an Elder Dragon, the magic is released, and if we kill too many of them without an alternate means of regulating magic, boom.

Glint’s Legacy and the egg is that alternate means, as is made very clear in Tarir. As an added bonus, there’s the possibility that if the hatchling absorbs enough magic, it could become an Elder Dragon-level ally.

Mordremoth is just one battle out of six. Glint’s Legacy means we actually have a shot at winning the war without being destroyed ourselves in the aftermath.

As for why Mordremoth wanted the egg: As an item imbued with a lot of magic it would serve as a tasty snack, while if corrupted it has the potential to be a powerful minion which, if it inherited Glint’s mental abilities, could potentially allow Mordremoth to do to the other races what it did to sylvari. Take your pick. Either way, if Mordremoth got the egg, then that would have at least significantly compromised the project to find a way to keep Tyria from being overloaded and destroyed by magic as more Elder Dragons are destroyed.

Yes and no.

We don`t know the purpose of the egg for real. We are just assuming, based on the little information we got from everyone.

We as the pact comander don`t know what role the egg plays. We just know it is important.

That being said, Mordremoths interest in it could be more simple: The egg is a possible thread to EDs in general

Mordremoth is able to tap into minds, get complete control of his victims memories and he so happened to get a lot of information thanks to he pac crashlanding and feeding on Sylvari and other pact memories directly.

He was able to tap into Zoija and Logan. One genius and one suppose high ranking human officer, who is often just left out of the loop, but still a respected and capable person.

Even if he has no direct knowledge of what the egg is supposed to do (like us), it is easy to everyone involved that it a threat in some way.

Think about it. Mordremoth was the reason the zephirites were killed.
Aerin, who was part of them (and possible learned about some of their secrets), became active after he entered Mordremoths teritory (Dry Top).
He was described as normal before.
It is at least from that point on, that Mordremoth has information about the eggs (possible) existance and the danger it might posses.

Remember, EDs are not supposed to be dumb and our only way to fight them, is outwit them.
The ED plays several chessgames at once, against several enemies. The more he plays, the higher is the possibility he will loose some games.
These will more than often be his weekness and our only chance to push through.

Adding to that:
The egg wasn`t as important to us as the player at the point we meet Caithe.

yes, it was an objective, however it`s significant place in our fight was unclear.
We only had the word of odgen (who kept being mysterious for whatever reason) and the pale tree, the later which has been revealed of being part of Mordremoth (and withold information as well).

Caithe was also an unstable factor, as we didn`t know where her aligiance was.

Overall the focus was, save the pact, save DE, find a way to kill Mordremoth and execute a plan.
I think they checked these from the list, with varying success.

The PC and the Biconics ended up being nothing more than an elite team, that goes in first and clears the way.

The question that I have is, if S3 is the epilog to HoT, thus part of that arc, or is the cut permanent and we jus fall straight into the next expansion arc.

I prefer at least two seasons letting things settle, or at least get resolved. If that is not the case, be bold and have things settled simultaniously, while going forward, if you have to.

btw. I don´t really like the glint legacy storyline. The vision and being a puppet part starts to get a bit annoying for my taste.

As long as everyone and their mother keeps having secrets and just give us fractions of any details, then I stop caring.
Odgen, Pale Tree, Anise, Rytlock, whoever… come clear…

I try to jump in here and clear it up:

Mordremoth is A big bad guy, like Konig says. He is one of six.
He is a giant threat and the supposed story of Heart of Thorns was all about it.
He did a lot of dangerous things.

In therory, all the things you (and we) craved were there.
Then there is the execution. They just didn`t deliver.
End of Story

You can argue every detail and how they focused on other mundane things that weren`t part of this particular story, but it won`t change the fact that they failed to deliver Mordremoths story on par of Zaithans.

One little thing to add and that should not be forgotten.

The Eldar Dragons in total are the threat, not each individual. It doesn`t matter if they are working independently, or if they are working together. They are doing more or less the same and thus their combined efforts is the threat.

Zaithan was our introduction to the whole story. A story that will at least have eigth story arcs (depending on how they want to deal with the others. Maybe we have a ED vs ED szenario and we get a double take down in) and we just got 2/3 through the second.

We are in for the long run and the story has to be build arcordingly.
Thus there will be substories introduced that will don`t pay off in the current part, but later.

Like with the broken sword of Aragorn, seen in the first movie and ressurected in the last if I am not mistaken.

Difference between movie and game, though, is that with one we have a frame to work in. A game is more flexible and in this particular we don`t have any idea when or if things will be resolved.

Anet theory on how they deliver content is okay. They just start to shift to an unhealthy balance of sub- and mainplots.

That being said, the problem is more on the execution. They got better with HoT, no doubt, but they said so themselves: They wanted to make it tighter .
Unfortunatly they went way to tight and strangled the poor plot, leaving it limping thanks to lack of oxygen towards the end.

Glints egg. Chaks, Ratan Novus, etc. will have their place somwhere (hopefully) in the future and needed to be introduced alongside Mordremoth, as it would be foolish not to.
Yes, it is as you say. They took more time with no payoff.

Again. It is the execution, not the story.
We need to show them that the imediate story needs as much attention as the overall plot and that we are not satisfied with 2/3 of a great story. We like the whole 100% (or at least 90%, because this is Anet. Sorry, but there is always some butchery that will be resolved later)

Oh and who is the evil? Right now we only know about the ED, who take the world hostage and might shift it positively or negatively.
By all means it could be us who is the danger in the long run.
So please, can we stop and saying this is the endgame ?
We don`t know. All we know right now: Big dragon our doorsteps, PANIC
We just start to learn about the consequences.

There are so many directions this story could go. Even the existance of humans could be a problem, as they are actually aliens. It could go into the direction of banishing all magic and the rise of technology… (which could end up with GW3 being distopian future and the return of magic… shadowrun szenario.. oh come on make it happen).
There could even be someone who wants the ED energy for himself.

We don`t know what the endgame it. We just know this part was disapointing to a degree. So please let us stop saying this or that will hurt the story in the future.

Lets stay with: Element XYZ has distracted from the mainstory and thus it has lost an X amount of potential.
I think they know themselves what they messed up.
I just hope they get the resources to make it better in the future. I really hope so.

-snip-

I don`t really know what your points were. It is nice that you expanded on my compairson (good example vs. bad example), but did you just want to clarify it even more?

It is true that Mordremoth is supposed to be something bigger and thus it is a shame that he got the stepping stone treadment.

As for the dragon being dead. We as player know it for sure because the devs said so. The world of Tyria just asumes it for now.

Adding to that is the fact that we don`t know the true nature of the elder dragons, or in extension elder dragon energy , and thus are unable to predict if any of our actions will come back to bite us.

Like Zaithans energy gathering in a new host (for example we just destroyed the current Zaithan aka the eldar dragon energy that governs the dead, but not the source), like we predict will happen with Mordremoths energy, which is supposedly split into four parts.

The dev statement can just mean that yes, Mordremoth is dead (like Zaithan), but his energy hasn`t been dealt with.
However that is just a theory.

Should Mordremoths tale have been bigger, better and more impactful? Yes.

Nobody is argueing the hackjob they did. It wasn`t complete. It was unfullfilling and we got less answers than questions.

On your point about greater evil . I see no reason why there couldn`t be something else lurking in the background.
For all we know the EDs are presented as our biggest thread at the moment , but as much as we know they could really just be a regulating mechanism.
We just don`t know enough to make any asumptions at this point. We are defending against a thread at the moment. Nothing more. Two down, four more to go.
I would actually prefer if there was some twist, or that we will be able to get some subplots done, while fighting these giant draconic beings.
I wouldn`t even mind that some pupeteer behind everything. Something that was going on for thousand of years.

@Aaron Ansari you sum it up nicely. LotR wasn`t perfect and had it`s detours, but that made it more believable. Most sidestories helped world- and characterbuilding and were resolved in the near future, thus were mostly helpfull addtitions.

HoT + Prelude so far fails to conclude several plot threads it introduced and added more, making it more a Chapter 2 of the GW2 storyline: And then there was that time Sylvari became supposedly evil, I lost a friend and killed a dragon.

A Season 3 right now needs to do a lot of damage control and conclude things. Nothing more.
We need closure.
We have enough plot threads going on allready to go into several directions, but we don`t need to end up there yet.

Cut back the hydra head story we have so far to a reasonable size and then let us venture forth. Maybe open the sealed of gate near ebonhawk and end the season there.

Then why did they spend so much time for it in HoT? If it’s not related to the main focus, then introduce it later rather than spending so much chapters for something that wasn’t related to the main story. Especially since the main story-war against Mordremoth was not told well.

That is like asking why you spend time with Frodo and the Ring in the Two Towers, in Lord of the Rings, if this story becomes more relevant in the last book/movie, where he finaly throws the thing into the vulcano.

If there are several storylines running simultaniously, there is an expected loss of quality if the focus isn`t given in a balanced amount or at least to a satisfying degree.

What the Two Towers did great and HoT was missing is the build up, conclusion and information regarding the one ring.

We knew how many movies there were supposed to be is one of the major factors.
That is why we can focus on sidestories in the movies, without feeling cheated on a conclusion.

HoT didn`t have the fellowship to set things up. It had no given timeframe.
HoT had two prequel stories, which set up the majority of the story (Scarlet and S2) and introduced several subplots.

Usually if things are set up, conclusions will follow and depending how the story is structured (if there are continuatons planned), some will remain.

HoT`s story however did not do that. In fact it stumbled around many issues, keeping almost every mystery alive at its conclusion, just adding more questions to the tail, it is allready dragging behind.

Taking up the binge watching argument, even if you binge watch a season, you usually have a completed story ark and most connected sidestories are progressed to the point that it feels like a conclusion.
Good stories, be it in any medium, allow you to think it is concluded, just to add another element, that shakes up that element.

While that requires clever writing and there are enough examples of shows/books in which they have written themselves into a corner, there are enough who were able to create some of the best plot twists and interesting stories out there.
They were able to give an old character/information new meaning, more flavour, etc.

HoT was not handled as a conclusive story.
All mysteries that were added for it and all mysteries that could have been connected to it were barely used and their conclusion was postphoned to a later date.

As long as there is a certain balance, the audience will be satisfied. However if too many questions remain, concernign a product that usually offers a completed story, then it fails to deliver.

HoT is not only the war on Mordremoth. It also incompasses the prelude to it, as it is build around it.
HoT was build up and ended up as nothing more as a stepping stone.

HoT is no Empire strikes back , Two Towers, or if we call sequels (to the Zaithan story ark), no _Terminator 2 .

The ending is the best evidence, as they just made a cut. The whole storie had no conclusion and aside from the devs saying “Mordremoth is dead.”, the world doesnt know.
The world right now is standing still. We are still there, at the mouth of Mordremoth, while some are looking towards north in the raid.

Do I believe Season 3 will give us conclusions? Maybe. However not the one we might need.
Since S1 too many mysteries were left alone or added. I just hope, they are able to bring them to an end, before the game ends.

I don`t think groups who are concerned about creatures and the enviroment of our planet would go against extraterrestial beings who are only further disturbing the fragile enviroment we already have.

Thus I think this argument is kinda obsolet.

On the other hand, there will be some cults created.

Yes it will be hard to implement. They have to make models for all the other races and genders.

Well, they did it once with the burning gemshop armor and got tos of backlash.

I rather have them design proper armor and weapons which are crafted in the spirit of the races.
Simliar to some dungeon armor, which is sometimes a good stand in (Twilight Arbor = Sylvari, Honor of the Waves = Norn/Kodan, Crucible of Eternity = Asura, Caudecus Manor/Ascalon Catacombs = Human. Unfortunatly no real Charr style)

In GW1 EotN you could go to each faction and earn armor from them, if you proved worthy enough (aka, earning exp in their areas).
I wish something like that was in GW2.

Not any more so than the other mentors.

But then the Mist Champions are clearly meant to cater to the MOBA-style “dress up your hero in silly outfits!” crowd, so adding one that is a fan favorite from the story makes sense for a business.

It’s why we don’t have a Sieran or Forgal mini, but we have one of Tybalt. Tybalt is really, really popular.

But I want a mini of those…

We don`t know how the life cycle of crystal/glass/whatever dragons work. How they multiply.

We don`t know how much she was altered through Kalkratorik, whih could have influenced it.

There are species on earth who don`t need a partner to procreate.
There are some who are able to impregnate themselves by changing their sex for example.

Then this is a magical world and a fictional being. Maybe she doesn`t need a partner.

She was a dragon champion, maybe she learnt how to produce offsprings like she created minions.

Maybe she was pregnant before she/he (do we really know the gender here?) was corruped and they were in stasis the whole time.
If I am not mistaken, the eggs in GW1 were indeed in some kind of magical stasis.

I mean, we don`t see any other glint like dragons around and she was corrupted before everything happened, most likely with the last rising. She could be the last of her kind (except her magical not really explained offsprings, which seem to exist in the world and then again forgotten, because plot conviniences and mystery and stuff)
