Mhm.

They could also pull a Mass Effect on us.
Where we get two “different” Commanders.

Sure it is a account bound thing, where we possible not get both “rewards”, but it sure could be interesting for the future.

However I beleive in the end we just end up with fluff and nothing too special.

Book Locations?

Jaken.6801

With all the new developments going on, I am finaly reading the books and I am a bit courious about several locations mentioned.

I know the first two were written with the game still in development, but are we actually able to visit these places in the game?

“Ghosts of Ascalon” followed Dougal Keane and his journey from Divinities Reach to Lions Arch, to Ebonhawke and finaly to Ascalon.
While we are able to follow his route in GW2, his first adventure regarding the Golems Eye seems not to be in the game.
I mean the Krypts beneath DE.
On the other hand, the destruction of the city of Ascalon and the sourounding area is kinda explained.

“Edge of Destiny” is a bit more tricky. I don’t think we can really pinpoint many places mentioned there.
However there is one particular place that got me courious:

Running from Ogre and Hyena, Rytlock, logan and Caithe discovered a hidden destroyed Dwarfen City with an Asura gate. Something that does not exist to my knowledge.
They escape via the gate, ending up near Lions Arch, however beforehand they cycle through some szenery:

  • a grassy plain where wild horses run
  • a deep lagoon encircled by leaning palms
  • a sere desert where crystaline structures stood
  • a great glacier with snowcapped peaks in blue
  • a deep rain forrest
  • a hamlet in a hanging valley
  • a bustling harbor jammed with junks
  • a white city with gleaming spires (Divinities Reach)
  • a city wide white tree (The Grove)
  • a desolate tundra
  • a deep-hewn canyon
  • a storm tossed sea
  • a smoldering battlefield
  • a calving glacier
  • a trackless swamp

Now Asura gates don’t seem to need an exit. With the right calibrations, you are seemingly able to get anywhere, which is what happened here.
We get random images of a malfunction gate.

Some are a bit interesting, even though I could be interpreting too much into them.
The first four kinda represent Guild Wars 1. Kryta, Cantha, Elona and then the Shiverpeaks.

And the last ones are kinda remnicent of the Fractals. Smoldering Battlefield, Glacier, Swamp and I think i missed something out of Jade in my transcription.

Of course given the fact that this was written way before these parts of the game were even thought of, it is an itneresting thought.

Quickly commenting on the Mursaat revelation:

  • The Mursaat tomes are written on the fire island chain, which means they happened after they came back out of phasing.
  • The tomes are written by the surviving Mursaat and like with every society we don’t know who wrote it and on which informations. If it was just a scolar, who wasn’t present at the frontlines, then he would only have the favourable version of the story.
  • The timeline doesn’t really change. We know that the races fought together once and then they percieved a betrayal by the Mursaat. We don’t know who decided that (most likely high ranking people), so when they decided to save the future generations vs. fight till death , the Mursaat not cooperation would be betrayal. The Mursaat would feel the same, thanks to their war effort.
  • We don’t know ow old a Mursaat can be. Maybe we got some second generation Mursaat with GW1, who just followed the ideas of their elders.

On the story

  • Taimis Game = Enders Game. Get it? Learning to fight your enemy in holographic szenarios…
  • So Braham tells us of Jormag? I like that direction.
  • And Rytlock is gone and even Taimi tells us how tight lipped he is about his sword and mist adventure. Well, hopefully next episode brings us to the Black Citdael to defend ex Tribune Rytlock.
  • Magic is like light and each ED represents a spectrum of it? I can live with that. Not sure about the fact that we go towards a super dragon right now. I kinda have Green Lantern flashbacks here.
  • Hurray for dwarfes. We really need to fix that guy and let him meet Odgen.
  • The fire island part 1 is interesting, however I hope we get to the main islands in the future.
  • Glints child is kinda cute, but creepy. Unfortunatly we know how a glint child looks like and even with the excuse of him being influenced by Mordremoths magic, this looks not very impressive. Cute, but stupid. I hope he come more after his mother.
  • So, we can confirm that ED energy shapes it’s host? We don’t want a piece of Mordremoths conciousness take over that little critter.
  • Lazarus get’s a new name. Lazarus the future betrayal. While I give him the benefit of the doubt, that him being the last (?) of his kind, might have a change of heart, I don’t trust him. Aside from revenge and possible regret there is nothing that would drive him right now. So as long as he isn’t able to resurect his race in some form, he will be a threat.

Arden, what does Taimi know about the intentions of an elder dragon?

She has a device that monitors magical energy.

She is only to see how things change and thus her observations are mostly interpretations of her data.

By all means Primordus could just send more forces in a certain direction, move his own body (represented by a large amount of magical energy, maybe her device is sensitive enough to distinct between the different types) or anything else.

Taimi knows more about Primordus than us right now, because she has access to the Rata Novus data and by that possible the means to know where Primordus is roughly (till the data aquisition stopped, because the whole thing was overrun).

It doesn’t mean that she knows anything exactly (till she has shown/said it to us, though that would be incredible helpful).

However it wouldn’t exclude an ED showing himself. I believe at some point an ED will rain chaos over the continent, shaking things up for that particular part of the story.
Though I don’t believe the devs are ready for such a big undertaking right now.

Btw. her “hotbed of activity” was based on magical energy flow, not on elder dragons specific.

Canonicly each champion is either fought only once (hence why the event never changes) or is reoccouring (when there was an update to the fight).

This is best represented throughout LS2, with the Shadow of the Dragon , a dragon like champion, which we only defeat once and then he never appears again.

However this is story vs gameplay, so it’s open to interpretation.

“The fire dragon ist just active, nothing more, so i hope we don’t focus on him too much.”

“JUST ACTIVE”? Explain me what do you mean.
Primordus is active- that means he awoke.
I probably don’t have to say that Ley Line spread out in 4 directions.

If the new map is full of the ley line (we will can use Ley Line Gliding) it means that a lot of ley line came to Primordus, and other dragons (current events).

He ate a lot of ley line and as something from the Pacts said “I didn’t think we’d be dealing with another dragon so soon”. It means he is fully awakened and “SO SOON” means he will show himself soon.

Primordus has been fully awake and active for approx. 200 years. We do not know if he has consumed ley line energy – nothing in game has confirmed this at all. It is a reasonable assumption he is pursuing more energy from either the release from Mordremoth or any residual from the exploding bloodstone.

At the moment our logical reason for going to the islands is either Lazarus (due to a Mursaat Stronghold being there from GW1 times) or chasing down whatever was displacing magic from the Central Transfer Chamber under Frostgorge. That does not automatically assume Primordus will make an appearance since there are no known links between Primordus and the Ring of Fire (yet).

Simply said, being active (again) doesn’t mean he pops up. He might just be shifting his minions or Taimi is able to locate him via her device.

Nothing more.

It’s like saying Kralkatorik or Jormag is active, because we constantly bump ehads with his champions.
Or that Zaithan is still active, because of Tequattles power-up.

We might just see a shift in frontlines.

Even if Primordus says: “hey, look who is here.” and he pushes towards us, it doesn’t mean we are fighting him next.
As far as we are concerned the EDs don’t really care about us (up till now).
Right now I only expect one of them coming up and push us back: “Now calm down and wait till I have time for you.”

As for the shiverpeaks, i didn’t meant for them to be molten completly, but parts. Allowing us to get into new territory (dwarfen area in the south shiverpeaks maybe? Up to the transferchamber?) or getting an interesting fire/ice dynamic going, with Jormag and Primordus minions side by side.

So, the trailer for the next episode is out ( Trailer ) and we are going to the Fire Island

I know there are threads going into possible connections to Rytlock, Primordus, etc. already, however the purpose of this topic is to collect impressions of the actual patch and some little bits of ideas and informations, you got from the material leading up to it.

So, same as always.

Trailer impressions

  • An old enemy could be obviously Lazarus, however it could have the double meaning or Primordus getting active again. I personaly hope, we won’t linger on the ED too long and just push him more into the world, instead of him becoming the next focus. I prefer him just being active there and nothing more.
  • The fire dragon ist just active, nothing more, so i hope we don’t focus on him too much.
  • Ah, fire worms. I was already scolded on Reddit for being annoyed with that enemy type, mostly because I forgot that they were a rare creature there. My mistake.
  • Now the skull and fire motive is interesting. Not because it is a possible throwback to GW1, but if they are clever they could work in Berserker profession lore . The skull design here is very similiar to the Berserker helmet, the island is based on fire, like the profession. This area could just be a training area for Berserker Warriors, which in turn influenced their style. Unfortunatly I guess that would give them too much credit, but I hope to be proven wrong.
  • The temperature in Tyria is raising , ah yes, the confirmation of global warming, even in Tyria. I knew these fire and brimstone based Charr tech is doing no good. Safe the planet, stop the Charr… or somethig like that. However in all seriousness, i guess these are just buzz words, unless the shiverpeaks start melting and open new paths.
  • Skritt pirates were allready confirmed and there will be a Skritt Pirate Queen in one event, based on one article. So yeah, Skritt fun I guess.
  • Destroyer in several forms. Even a Great Destroyer. I hope they bring some old designs back. That would be interesting. The disks with the Karka roll…
  • Saurians somehow managed to get on the island. If not just reused models I am courious how they got there. Seing the last saurian I was reminded of the EotN final boss. Unfortunatly I was wrong.
Would be cool to see his design coming back, though.
  • I really hope that dealing with another dragon doesn’t mean actually preparing to fight him. Can’t we take a break and handle some of the dozens of other conflicts first?

Anyway, great trailer, unexpected new area and a lot of possible missdirection.
At least I hope so.

Well, Zaithan is dead and his minions are still around.
Furthermore Tequatle got stronger.

However in this case it is mostly panic and fear in the peoples mind. They are still dragon spawn, even if their master is dead.
People don`t trust them.

There is the idea that Elder Dragon Energy has “a will and shape on its own”, to some degree.

It does seek or accumulates in a host, that will become the next ED of that partiular energy.
As long as we don`t know, where Mordremoths energy ended up in, Sylvari could easily be coverted, by the next one who inherits the ED energy.
Which by all means could be a follower of Mordremoth.

Old Mordy has been defeated by Trahearns sacrifice.

Btw. we don`t know where Zaithans energy went. Though the Priory is studying his tail (Or was it the one of Tequatle)ß

but I feel like I´m actually losing gold by doing anything other than ML.

And you’re right. The point is: do you play a game to gain in-game gold or for fun? I remember that old times when all games were just about having fun…

The two shouldn´t be mutually exclusive.

All I´m saying is make other areas more rewarding so that the game feels less grindy.

It depends on what you feel like is rewarding. If you only go by gold, then you are out of luck. However here are some rewards of old maps:

  • There are karma vendors that offer unique skins and items.
  • You can go around find hidden archievments, which in return help you with your rating, which boost your money gaining ability (1% per chest)
  • Gain reccources, instead of buying them. Gathering Platinum in Bloodtide Coast ist quicker and cheaper, than buying it from the TP for example.
  • Look which map has rare rewards today and follow the train.
  • Complete the maps, for a chance of BLC keys, or a quick boost in materials
  • Just explore the world for fun. Ramp up the volume and like Dekard Cain said: “Stay a while and listen.”
  • Do some collections. Some are just vanity items, but others can be useful.
  • Run around with strangers and help them.
  • Play it like a game and not like a job, only looking at the money per hour, instead of enjoyment (though, if that is what you enjoy, then carry on).
  • Search for secrets. Did you know several maps have a hidden Order of Whispers Hideout?

These are just some ideas…

Wait, there is one other example, though it might be through Mordremoths power.

Scarlet created a false god in the Tower of Nightmare, which, if I remember right, was a combination of Sylvari and Krait.

While it wasn’t really confirmed, it came from a plant like Sylvari, so we can asume she used some Sylvari/Mordremoth bilogical hatching device…

btw. this could actually be a first hint on the powers of Mordremoth, if I am not mistaken, and how he creates his minions.

Jaken.6801

It would be nice if they would create something like a briefing mail for every order, that players can pierce together to form a better picture and give more sense of a moving world.

Like we get a mail at some point of a release (beginning, middle or end), that tells us about things moving, to show that the order you have joined is aware of these things.

For example:
The story is going a political uproar with the humans, have the mails be about some things that are weird there and maybe have a protagonist investigate (lightbringer shadowpaw adventure in the human city, or so)

Have vigil soldiers report from unrest in the people there and the priory go on about how things are kinda similiar to the things they have read about the white mantle yeas back.

Then players could connect the dots.

Though things shouldn’t be as straight forward and about the same topic. Maybe have reports from the ront line vigil about new minion movements. Have reports from new development in Priory research, etc.

Many things, that could advance the story in the background to create a more lively world.

Combine that with the fact that we might even be able to visit some of these NPCs at one point, it presents a rather interesting story device in my opinion.

Explain Dragon's Watch?

Jaken.6801

saying “If” “might” or “could” is now irrelevant. you have stated as much by declaring “which will be the case at some point, obviously, but that is something for the future”. it sounds like you are speculating against an idea but convinced of its truthfulness? why fight against it?

I agree with the handling of it, being decided by 2 members and that whole scenario, but it still does not invalidate my reasoning/point.

I may have miscommunicated on the last part about the dragon slayers. It ties directly into what we are doing even if your choice of topic was meant to be an expression of something else. Dragons Watch can mean this, simply cuz we have already killed dragons, and we are likely to kill more… all the while protecting one that’s growing. All facets of our story are tied to dragons. Our first story… kill a dragon, second story… kill another dragon… now third story… kill primordus…another dragon.

I think you and I and everyone else and Anet all know whats gonna happen here. We are gonna protect that egg from primordus so it can hatch and fight against him.

No. It does mean something, because we just asume that we will do it (thats why it is a possibility).

I also highlighted several other possibilities, because the story can still go into another direction.

We don’t know where the story goes, thus calling us that way would make it a self fullfilling prophecy, if the reasoning is based upon us watching the egg/emerging dragon.

It would be nice, if you read further than just the things you need to proove your point and put them in the right context, since I clearly explained what was meant by that.

since it became our mission to take the egg to begin with. yes it rests in tarir under exalted care, but we would be kidding ourselves if you think that we wont have to defend that egg in upcomming stories/missions, or play an intrigal part in its hatching and defense during its vulnerable times. The Devs know the outcome of the story already, and have likely selected names that were fitting for it in specific directions they want to go. but anyway….. there is a connection, whether you personally agree with it or not isnt going to change it.

To Djinn: It most certainly is the primary focus, as i have stated above, we will be tasked with protecting it as it grows and hatches… all of ls2 was about that egg, and i will be surprised if we dont end up doing exactly that.

You are aware that you are contradicting yourself, aren’t you?

snip….

We are not the protectors of the egg, however we will protect it if it does become neccessary (which will be the case at some point, obviously, but that is something for the future).

snip…

So yes. Your scenario might come true. That we will be involved in it’s protection, or that the other names are hints towards future storylines. It would be like calling yourself dragonslayer before you even met a dragon in the first place. A big joke or selffullfilling prophecy (which we allready had with the flameseekers, so i guess that ship is sailed)

cut out the unnecessary parts there… my whole point was what you just admitted to and seem to feel like it is inevitable as I do. We will end up protecting the egg. And yes we call ourselves dragon slayers cuz hey, why not… Zaithan and mordy are dragons we have slayed after all… so no, I don’t think we are self fulfilling any prophecy, as we have already killed dragons.

Ehm yeah… it is not invetable.
The dragon egg could be corrupted and we have to put it down, it could be a red hering and/or it could be full of magical power and get into ED mode, without us even doing a thing.

You remember my wording, using the words: “might” and “if”, while I discribed the szenarios.

There are several szenarios where we don’t protect the egg.
Interacting, yes, but not “protecting”.

Thus the reasoning, why these unknown things that might happen in the future (not at this point of the story), don’t really make much sense. That and other things many people have allready said.

Fact is, it is a very random name with a very thin connection to the story and is more liekely to be a GoT analogy, than anything story related.
Again, other languages actually have other names, based on their vote and got the same unexplained reasoning behind it.

There is no real connection to this name. The writers didn’t bother or had the time to think of a reasoning.
That is why it went like that:
“How about Dragon’s watch?”
“Yeah, sounds good, next topic then.”

A name, chosen by two members of the guild, without any consent of the others? It was just a plot point they had to check of their list.

Oh and the dragon slayer part.
I wasn’t talking about us players as the comander, but in general terms.
Someone who has never seen or encountered a dragon, calling himself dragon slayer.
Would you call yourself dragon slayer in the real world?
Or Phone Salesman, without being one?

It is a potential focus, not the or primary focus of the new guild.
The guild at this point has no clear goal, but rather it’s individual members have their own agendas (Braham wants Jormag, Rytlock follows the voices in his head, Taimi wants Primordus, etc..).
The only one, who actually cares about the egg at the moment is Taimi (and Caithe, but she isn’t part of the guild) and only because she wants to study it. Everyone else is god knows where doing their own private stuff.
The common goal however, is the fight against the danger of the elder dragons .
A goal which can easily shifts, if we uncover the true nature of the elder dragons, which has allready been hinted upon several times.

We are not the protectors of the egg, however we will protect it if it does become neccessary (which will be the case at some point, obviously, but that is something for the future).
So far we were only the one, who took over the protecting part for a bit, because the Zephirites went down.

The nature of the egg and it’s purpose has never been really told to our character. We were never flat out told what the endgame of all involved factions is. Neither the exalted, nor Odgen has told us anything about the real plan of Glint and the Forgotten.

The egg is on the agenda, but is still too much of a mystery, to be a primary goal.

Your theory is allready debunked anyway, as the other name choices don’t have the dragon emphasis, are being used in other languages because they won the choice there and are more or less confirmed to be inspired by Game of Thrones.

So yes. Your szenario might come true. That we will be involved in it’s protection, or that the other names are hints towards future storylines. Hello peeps! I am returning to GW2 after a really long break. ( Stopped playing a couple of months after release)
I did some research but i am really confused so i was hoping you could help.
Here are my questions:

1. Do i need to buy the new expansion in order to play? If not, will i miss anything important or is the lvling experience the same with or w/o the expansion?
2. How is necromancer atm in PvE and PvP?
3. How’s the population doing?
4. Would you recommend to return or should i avoid it?

Thanks for your time~

Heart of Thorns Expansion is NOT necessary, but I would highly recommend it.
You get lots of new content as well as the ability to glide which is paramount to exploration.

Currently they are in the processes of releasing Living World Season 3
So if you have not played LW Season 1 and 2 I would definitely consider starting there as it is one long enjoyable story.

Necro is good, actually one of the best classes in game atm. I have one of each and prefer the following in order.

Ranger, Elementalist, Necro, Mesmer

So its in my top 3.

Overall this is what I would do. Buy the expansion. Level your mastery level.
All the way the Ley Line Gliding. Then work on the new content.

That was helpful thanks! Your 4 classes are the ones i am trying out atm, but i am really having trouble deciding which one to play/ Which one has the most damage per skill? Trying out necro but it feels slow.

If you play Necro and consider the expansion, go for the Specialization. I just say greatsword wielding necormancer, with talents based of famous movie serial killers…

I was thinking a 4th birthday select-a-weapon-skin box.

Actually, that would be kinda awesome.

A choice of special weapon skins, only accessable via a four year old character.

It’s like the story reward of GW1 (or GW2 for that matter, even though you can trade them), where at the end of the campaign, you got awarded with one weapon of a particular set.

This could be a very interesting equivalent.

Explain Dragon's Watch?

Jaken.6801

Dragon’s watch is correctly possessive… we are guarding glints egg, which is in fact….. wait for it…. A Dragon! the name fits perfectly for what we are doing. Yes we are going after other dragons, but our primary responsibility is to infact guard that egg.

Since when?

We were asked to take care of the egg and deliver it to it’s proper place.
A task that was given to us and we accepted because it served our cause.

Now we left it with the people who are actually supposed to guard it.

If anyone in “our group” is determined to watch it, it would be Caithe.

Otherwise, thanks to no further information given, aside from: It’s somehow important , our character has no real obligation to be the guardian of Glints offspring.

In fact, he was never enlisted to that task.
We got the Brotherhood of the Dragon along with Odgen, the Zephirites and nowadays the people of Tarir for that.

We are off, doing whatever the world throws at us at the moment. If I remember it is a self proclaimed god and some firey firey dragon.

Revenants

in Lore

Posted by: Jaken.6801

Jaken.6801

Well Rytlock becoming a Revenant basically caused a “wave” across the Mists. Inside the Mists, all of what we can assume is the source of Space/Time is housed there (since we can see battles that already happened, and things that may happen). So him opening the ‘box’ (or whatever it was) that caused him to gain his powers basically hit across the entire Mists, giving more and more the power of Revenants. He was the first in all of existence to gain the power, and it spread to the rest of existence.

Yeah, that’s the most “plausible” explanation.
The other being that Rytlock is the first Herald and not aRevenant.

Otherwise he is certainly an anomaly

" A Revenant is someone who returns from a long absence, often from death or in a supernatural way. Rytlock Brimstone is the first Revenant. " gw2 wiki

Revenant power came from Mist. Like in the Cinema when Rytlock jump into hole" rift "gets his sword back. I think there he went to Hall of Heroes to get this power or some where Underworld?

Would be nice tough.. If you start making new Revenant as human or any other race "instance’ where you would get the revenant power. As norn into “Hall of Spirit”…

Maybe they will added later on story when its fits to Living Story or another Expansion? Like in new Living Story 3 map…there are lots of rifts…

Maybe it was left open so we can make own story how our character get those elite specilization…

At least the elite specializations aren’t too farfetched.

Guardians picking up a bow and channel their will through it.

Mesmers already know time magic.

Warriors got so tired of being bad close to every game mode they put themselves on fire in a suicide attempt.

Elementalists just summon more storms.

Necromancer picks up a greatsword.

Thief being more edgy and dodgy.

Engineer just being an engineer inventing new stuff.

I guess Ranger is the only more interesting one with the whole Druids of the Maguuma Jungle.

I kinda disagree with Guardians.
While many elite professions could be sumemrized by the focusing on a different aspect of their trade, there are things that still need to be explained.

Like the name.
Guardians call themselves Dragonhunters. Why?
Are they better suited to hunt dragons?
Are other classes inferior?
Are the Vigil not Dragonhunters as well?
Why did the devs explain the name, by putting an analogy towards witch hunting and that they hunt “everything dragon”, which in turn would mean that they would have to hunt Sylvari.
Would a Sylvari Dragonhunter have to commit suicide, since he is “dragon”?

Scrapper is also questionable.
It is/was a name given lower ranks of Charr. It was mostly cultural.
While a name could mean something different in another culture, a Charr Scrapper, who was an Engineer before would acutally be demotion instead of a promotion and nothing worthy of an elite spec.

Rangers and Druids… well another bag of worms and the Revenenant as a new profession isn’t better.

As i’ve said. Some classes can be boiled down to a different profession focus.
Others are more tricky, since the way they are named and their implied ties to the world make them questionable lorewise.

First and foremost, they are a gamemechanic.
However I don’t think it is asked too much, to weave them into the games narrative in a better way.
In a simple way, like having actually a group of guardians around, who explain their dragonhunter buisness. Like them having studied the dragons and deviced ways to hunt them based on their own personal guardian skills. Put in some zelosty and the possibility to be confronted as enemies if challened on their believe (or approached by a Sylvari) and we even got a nice mini event out of it.
A Tempest master, who actually teaches other elementalists (not our player, but some NPCs to observe) the way to master storms and is able to give us some backstory on their focus.

Elite specs shouldn’t be just a game mechanic, but actually be represented as part of the living world, to create a better rounded experience.

I mean, it is something low budget f2p MMOs are able to provide. Even if it is just something they put on their website.

The appearence of Caithe and Faolains standard appearence could simply be, because Mordremoth is tapping into Caithes inner fear, using it as a template and projecting it back at us.

We got the image of Faolain and Caithe thanks to the pale tree, who basicaly had a backup of these memories.

Caithes mind could have adapted in the meantime, putting more emphasis on the current representation of Faolain and herself, which in turn is recreated by Mordremoth.

The missing appearence of Malomedies could be explained in the same way.
Caithe could subconciously purged the details of him in her mind, which would in turn hinder Mordremoth in using them.

While I asume, that Mordremoth could have been able to ressurface these deeper hidden memories, him beeing weakened at the same time from the outside and our pressure on him, despite him trying to stop us, could be enough that he isn’t able to pull these images out.

The other things are certainly interesting.

They need to rethink their community interaction in my opinion.
The WvW team does a good thing.

In PvE, all “choices” we had so far, were pretty insignificant. At least after Kiel vs Evon

When LA has been rebuild, they hyped it up a lot. Then we got a “choice”, which was just a name for a place. We couldn’t pitch anything in, we were locked in four names, for something we don’t really know about.

For DE2.0 we got three names, without much background and appearently GoT knock offs.

I mean, seriously? We got WvW, which let’s us take part at the creation of the content and then we got PvE, which is just “naming stuff”.

How about we got asked what kind of direction LA’s design should have gone?
Provide a name and background for the new guild (like, why it should be named this), something that certainly did’t happened here.

I expected at least the game explaining why they used that name. At least spit baling between the members, trying to explain why they are the unbroken or the eternal guard

Anything…

I wish we had more interaction there, instead of the patronizing choices we get to do at the moment.

Kiel vs Evon was a great start. How come we devolved into handholding and utterly uninteresting choices?

It also isn’t confirmed that Primordus is Fire. He could be just heat in general, termodynamic energy and fire is just how is percieved.

Nevertheless, the elements were never said to play a role in how the dragons interact with each other, or that they even have any territorial fights.

The sole reason of S3 could also be that they want to show how dangerous the world does become, in that they reintroduce friends and foes from all sides, leading up to an enemy that takes the center in an expansion.

However that doesn’t even have to be the case.
Who says that expansions always have to be about a dragon.

What if they get us into a position, in which our victory is the sole purpose of survival?
All fronts start acting up and we have to fight back with dwindling reccources, till we somehow are able to regain our footing, slaying some powerfull inner foes in the process.

Yes, the dragons are the big bad (presumebly), however they don’t have to be the sole focus. The world is too interesting for that in my opinion.

Taimis Prank
Just adding to Taimi and then I guess thats it for me.
You arguements are all plausible, the thing that bothers me is just that:

If I were in a situation where I don’t want any attention, I do everything to not get that attention.
Even if the chance that someone would notice is about 5%, or lower.

It just feels off for me.

On the other hand, it is Taimi who believes that she has everything under control… maybe that’s why. I am just waiting that things blow up in her face (again).

Defenses
Yeah, power conservation and reducing the posibility of more Chakk would be the obvious reason, but she never said that.

Everything is just possibilities here and I just wish there were more evidence that supports her claim.

It just feels weird for the limping, “weaponless”, child to defeat several (and we can assume the number of Chakk we saw was the norm, as she didn’t mention that the amount was unusual) Chakk.
I wish they would have added something on the visual side. An asura turret or some barriers. Or even a side remark, for the reasons staed before.

Rushed and pacing
I think it has something to do with what information we get. They put a lot of effort into a voiced delivery of key information, that some side infos get lost.
The funeral and Rata Novus was great, but could have been expanded upon easily, with some personality.
The funeral was the best, as we could interact with several side characters and get info, outside of the main plot.
Rata Novus had only the “secret objective”, where we heard other “funny” Asura lines, but we weren’t able to approach them otherwise. Windell was as silent as a sleeping Dolyak for example.
After we enter Bloodstone fen, everything is mostly tailored to get us into the loop on the meaning of the area.
There are some funny voiced lines, but these are pasive experiences, that aren’t faciliated by us.

I dunno, I think I miss talking to my characters, outside the railroad trip from time to time.

We only got bare bone hints of Majories problems during HoT. We can’t follow up on Rytlocks “agenda”, etc…

I think they really put a lot of effort to get everyone up to speed on the whole story arc, but it came at a price.
Something that doesn’t seem so significant, but creates a little off feeling for me.

Taimis Prank
Yes, she could, but why in a place, where too many eye are watching?
She said, she had to finish the puzzle afterwards, so it is her “password system”, while we finished off the golems.
Was the “don`t attract too much attention” bit before, just set up for the whole “prank”?

If it was in the dragon lab, okay, it would be “safe”, but pulling it somewhere, where it could potentially attract someone unwanted, is kinda recless in my book.

Adding to that the dialog implies we have to finish the puzzle first. It doesn`t say we can ignore it.
It implies that we can`t really continue, without finishing the puzzle
Ignoring it is only presented as an option for us to choose from, but with no back-up from the dialog before.

We were told: Finish the puzzle, to proceed. Nothing more.

The only reason I decided to not complete the puzzle, was out of curiosity and a bug I experienced. I hoped the game let`s me proceed, without finishing. Something that wasn`t implied before.

Again. It is something minor, which just rubbed me the wrong way.

Taimis Defense
It`s just weird that she didn`t use it to support us. She didn`t even mentioned that she wanted to conserve energy, to not attract more Chakk and we should do it instead. So, as long as we don`t see the defenses, I see it as a plothole and will continue to ask the question: “How did she fight Chakk?”

Caudecus
Housearrest with a Portal in the backyard. I don`t believe he was that much out of the loop. However it is a valid argument.
My problem is more along the fact, that he was appearently high ranking, controling a lot of the white mantle, but ended up not knowing about these plans?
While I get secrecy, I would have liked him seperate from the WM, but still using them.
However, that might still be something that will be revealed. That he bought his rank and thought he was in charge.

Rushed
Okay, more of a pacing issue in retrospect. Maybe I would have wished for some extra steps in between. Everything just came to us too easy (not saying that it is over). Things were a bit too convinient and “easy” to reach.
The only thing that slowed me down were the damage sponges and the forced Mastery.
Speaking of mastery. Here, learn some ancient magic…
The whole exploration part was mostly to get familiar with the area and get cought up in the WM stuff.
Like i said, kinda hard to put my finger on it, to be honest.

Just t be clear, I don`t want to argue for argue sake. Might just be my personal problems.

The speech
Didn`t the commander held a norn speech at one point of the PS? I believe he was a bit more norny there. Could be mistaken, though.
We also have times, that we don`t witnessed. So there could have been more than three meetings.
Overall It was no real critizism, just a wish from me.

It kinda felt weird for me.
Yes it is technicly optional.
Yes it is a good character moment, showing off her mischievious side.

However a few seconds before, she scolded us for being loud, wanted to keep everything on the low key.
Then she pulls the joke on us.

If i remember right she tells us to crack that puzzle. We have to do it. The PC even asks if that is a joke, but Taimi just rolls with it.

On one hand it does certainly plays into her character, but given the situation it felt out of place.
It was set up as something that you had to be careful around and it had no pay off.

The result in not doing the puzzle is that three big golems come down and attack, attracting others, who would investigate.

It’s things like that, that make me question her ability to stay alive sometimes. It isn’t the first time, where she did something that could potentially backfire. I just wait for the day, where the plot armor isn’t pulling her neck out.
The bile and Chakk she is working with? A mutation bound to happen.

Could be just the frustration speaking, but Taimi is always taking things too far for my liking and as someone who is supposed to be “the brains” of the group.
I see her ending up as someone who puts you in a dangerous situation and says afterwards: “what? You didn’t die and I heard scars do have a certain appeal to the other sex…”
Well, no one ever said that she was big on the empathic side…

Yes, you can decide to not do it, but Taimi urges you to do it, giving you the expression that is the way to go.

It is kinda backwards in my opinion and just giving us an option to do the puzzle, than it being presented as the solution.

Another interesting Fact is that our Character now is able to collect Magic from the Surrounding and even drain Magic from Bloodstones ( Ok due to Counter Magic but still ) and these Air Skills look like that due to harvesting Magic for ourself we now can shoot Magic Beams, use unstable Magic Bombs call in healing Magic Storms etc. It could be just Gameplay but this could also be integrated into the Story quite nicely.

Getting some Brütal Legend flashback here, let’s call in Roady Riggs…

Anyway, for this Episode:

The story feels a bit rushed. I can’t put my finger on it, but after the nice and slow start, it all tumbles down, axing plot points one after the other.

Caudecus being the bad was obvious. Him being soo much involved and so oblivious is kinda sad to see, since we appearently should just forget that he is a puppetmaster and conecentrate on him being an powerhungry idiot who bit off more than he should.

New areas are awesome.

How did Taimi defend herself against Chakk? She said she wasn’t able to get defense mechanisms going. She couldn’t install them. She limps around. Wields no weapons.
HOW DID SHE FIGHT CHAKKS?
There is a broken Golem, she could have created some device, but why do we have to go on pest control, against several Chakk and she just stood back? Conserving energy?

The speech for Eir was a bit too short. I would have liked a bit more personal stuff in it. Overall the whole szene was very sweet, though i didn’t know our character was so good at handling ice with a pickaxe…

Why do we have to clear puzzle, if Taimi is perfectly capable to do so? I saw her laughing at meand it was supposed to be her messing with us, but for me she starts to get more and more annoying in a negative way. It was charming at first, now I want her to get her Asura head back to earth…
The puzzle could be a perfect optional thing to do and then the szene wouldn’t be so annoying for me.

I wish we could talk to our team more. We just get the normal dialog and I wish we could get from simple textbubbles from the others…

Belindas sword glows, which indicates that it is special? (her ghost is in it, but did it glow before? Even without any skills)

Garm is a filthy dog (he has a special condition = filthy)

Did Almora always sound like that? Oh btw. nice to have some Charr on Charr growling between her and Rytlock.

Did expect the para troopers gliding in to help us at the end, after a flare from Canach.

Overall good episode. a bit bumpy, but pretty good.

Extra : More outfits? Awww…

Oh, we go into Macross territory now?
Only if I get my Macross Missile Barrage on a class.

Exactly! Great minds think alike. Over the past 30 years, the concept behind music as a weapon is still strong. Not everyone can relate to American sci-fi drama, but music exists in all cultures. That’s why having an idol group as part of the story would be a major draw for the GW universe. No matter where you live in the world, music would be the key that binds us.

And just to point out, Omega Golems already have Macross-like missile barrages. It’s a shame they’re only available to use in WvW. Totsugeki Love Heart!

While I won’t argue that music, idols, basicaly anything that boosts morale is allready utilized for battle even today (sending popular musicians to frontline soldiers, for example), going so far as using it straight up as a weapon is kinda farfetched, even for a fantasy game like GW2.

If there was a precedent fort his kind of magic in the world, then sure, why not. Let’s take the “by the power of love”.

It won’t happen though, as the concepts that are in the established lore, are only roughly in that direction.
Even after Star Trek used the power of Music to defeat a much stronger enemy, i don’t think we will see anything like that.

Well, there are the dredge sonic devices, which could be used for something, but now we are grasping straws.

Lore Q&A

Jaken.6801

(Side note: letters from multiple sources isn’t impossible, given that you did that with the letters from the DE member of your race in the PS, and during F&F which was from DE of your race or Almorra if you were vigil )

It was impossible from a budget standpoint. Having to write 5 letters per dungeon meant we’d have to write 40 letters total instead of 8. From a logistical standpoint it would have driven up costs for localization and editing. These mails were generated very late in the development process. Multiplying them would have resulted in the wordcount ballooning by 5 times.

Maybe you’d make better use of your scarce writing resources than to have them write raid ‘lore’ which only a small minority of players will ever experience and even fewer will ever bother reading on their charge through the instance to get to the phat lewt most of them are there for.

Just saying.

“Your fallacy is to think that ‘their customers’ view the game entirely the same way and all want the same thing.”

Your comment has no bearing on mine, since I didn’t make any such suggestion that everyone thinks the same thing .. but I’m sure you felt pleased with yourself for posting that.

Actually it does, as this game tries to have a certain quality and to inovate with every step it does.
Even if it does insignificant to you, there is new tech, tools and other things developed, to get these done.

The things you are proclaim as “unneccessary” right now, might become relevant later down the line.

Heck, how much was raged against LS1 and then we see things being better implimented later on?

Do you even realize how many things have to work together to get a certain things to be fun and to the quality it ends up?

None of her mad ramblings have to mean anything and thus, any information we get out of these notes can be her halucinating.

Information about ED XY could be far less important as she thinks, etc.

We need some explanation to these story inconsitencies to have it all make sense.

How did the Summerians get the information (i doubt the whispers share as easy and any other Asura, be it priory or vigil would rather use the opportunity to study themselves, than sharing)?
