Gift of Battle takes a couple of days to a week to acquire with this new system. That’s nothing compared to how long it takes to acquire other materials. I remember when I started on my first legendary weapon. I had to do WvW for the badges as well as the Gift of Exploration back then. At least you don’t need to map WvW anymore.

Yep, I finished my pre just after the change.
Being broke and semi curious I looked up what I could do now.
Well, long story short, I got my Gift of Battle, after a roughly a week of casual WvW, ranging from 30min to an hour, whil rarely having max points.

So yeah, it is manageable, but it forces you out of your comfort zone.

I still need to play a bit for the Triumphant Armor pieces

Western Commons has 0 personal story relevance, as does most of Eastern Commons (only Uzolan’s Orchestra area does). Those could easily be destroyed with no PS rammifacations and eventually rebuilt to be different. They’re also near the main entrance to the city.

True, that could certainly be razed.
We got the flashback mechanic of LA, though. It opens up some new possibilities.
Still, right now starter areas seem to be off limits… though i would welcome a change in that policy.
Even though I will never get my dam breaking (they could flood queensdale and enter the city via the drained areas or drown the enemies army for example)

You mean where there’s nothing but water and steep cliffs?

At least based on data mining and unofficial maps.
They could rework it as a siege map, with WM camps and settlements, that were hidden thanks to powerful magic (maybe based on Mursaat magic?).

I don’t think they pull something like that off.

It wouldn’t be unlikely that part of DR could be destroyed.
However I believe it would only happen, if it is a major plotpoint, in which something like the Queens Throne and the buildings sourounding it, would be destroyed.

Or the area around the gate towards Ebon Hawke is broken (to push towards the crystal desert, with a Ebon Hawke rescue mission, etc…)

Overall, if there is a siege, I believe they will come from the north.

The egg becomes hard boiled.

Though it is a crystal egg, which might do some refraction hre and here..

Hey, what if her scans are totaly bogus, because of the crystaline strukture, resulting in it just reflecting something from somwhere else.

Poor Taimi, that’s why hands on experience is often the more reliable source.

Anyway. Mordremoths energy seems to be still alive to some capacity and Taimi wants to honor the Rata Novans. Other than that, not that much new .

Or is there? An interesting piece missing is information on Jormag. Working with the Exalted, they would at least have knowledge of them in some capacity, as his minions were in the trial.
I didn’t expect info on the DSD, though info on both might come in later logs.

Mentioning Krakaltorik and Primordus might mean we might tackle both at once, this time.

I’m probably reading way too much into it, but assuming the final voice is Caudecus; I found the choice of words a bit peculiar.

They will carry me all the way to the throne of Krytan.” Emphasis mine.

It almost sounds as if he puts some distance between himself and the WM, almost like he doesn’t consider himself an actual member/fanatic, when talking about them. Not that he isn’t afraid to use them or anything, but rather he sees them mostly as a means to and end (claiming the throne) more than anything else.

Obviously.
The white mantle always had their own goal (Mursaat, ehem).
The minister is nothing more than someone who supported them. Gave them access to everything.

Even if there are sleeper in DR, the minister is most likely just a political puppet, who sees the white mantle as a group of fanatics, he can use to push his agenda.

I believe he thought that he helps a group who has fallen from grace and can use them.
Their goals do allign partly. He wants to rule DR and they want to be back in power, to save humanity (and bring back their gods/Mursaat).

The problem is just their endgame.
Caudecus is a politican who uses the current distrust and racism to get on the throne, using the white mantle as his personal army.

Unfortunatly, they use him to get back to power, so while Caudecus might see them as a disposeable little group of bandits, with white mantle ties, they see him as disposeable as well.

So ready up for the siege of DR (I believe from the north, since the south is Queensdale and we don’t disturb starter zones sooo much)

Well, Jennah being an illusion, a mesmer puppet so to speak would be quite ironic, since she introduced the watchwork knights.
A puppet, which dons a mesmer illusion in the crown pavillion.

Wouldn’t it be interesting if the mesmer collective created Jennah for the greater good?

Though I guess we don’t get that far meta, since Logan might have had a few private moments with her and turning her into an illusion could break him.

It would be very creepy as well. Having a mesmer everyhwere she goes… everywhere, so anyone who could spy on her, does indeed see her act natualy .

I think we can bury that theory (if they don’t go the she is a magical autonom being, which gives life to an idea, instead of a puppet route)

Doing a preemtive strike here with the release of the trailer for Out of the Shadows (and I am not talking about the recent Turtles movie), thought we start disecting what we see here and go further in next week.

There are some very interesting things to see, aside from some recap here and there:

  • We start off with Trahearns and Eir’s death, building up a damped mood, over supposed celebration
  • The white mantle banner is shown and we get something that could be the chaos isles , which were teased in articles. The new fractal?
  • Some strange ley line energy in a ley line cave ? I haven’t played the raid, but this doesn’t seem to be part of it.
  • We get an air ship? My suspicion is, that we will go into the mist. EotM allready suggested air ship travel there, with the Aetherblade pirates.
  • An Sylvari soldier in the new fractal? He wields the chain-sword gem store item.
  • Raid flashback
  • Dark red sky, like the supposed fractal. Some white mantle bloodstone designs and a Phalanx armor warrior of Balthazar? (The new fractal is supposed to be a very mixed, hence the name)
  • A big hole in the sky… (Gozer is comming, get the proton packs out of Ascalon), … above a red energy. Could be bloodstone, could be Primordus (unlikely).
  • More raid filler (I guess they don’t have enough footage or Xera makes a comeback?)
  • Big explosion we have seen before
  • White Mantle storming formward, with a voice proclaiming they take him to the throne of Kryta. My money is on Caudecus here.

Well, not much, but enough to speculate.
You got my first impression up there, feel free to chime in.

The party starts in one week, july 26.

Though we might also asume that the “Elder Dragons” are just the manifestation of the “Elder Dragon Energy”.

There are allready hints, that other beeings would be able to take the power, or able to use it to some capacity (CoE for Example).

While we have Glint and his child as a potential new ED and they are in fact dragons, we got the subconcious of Mordremoth, which looked more like a hulking bear with dragon parts. That could mean that Mordremoth could have been something else.

Just a theory, though.

On the other hand, we got several dragon and dragon like creatures in this world (though GW2 is rather stingy with them).

Mhm… maybe we could prevent EDs from reemerging by killing off all dragons in the world, if the ED energy is really just being used by dragonlike creatures.

Are the Modus Scelerit Cancelled?

Not sure what you mean by this. Can you elaborate?

I can for him. The Modus Scelris were series of events added with Halloween 2012. There was mention that they’d be a running plot, I think – or at least people were left with that impression. But nothing has happened to them since.

wouw’s asking if there’s any plans for them in the future, or if they were a one-release trick. Many folks are hoping they get expanded.

Heck, given the LW3 teasers, they could even become one of those groups vying for the magical power released by Mordy.

Adding to that: Halloween 2012 introduced the idea of content delivery, without much explanation (aka there were things added to the game, without any hints).
There was a quote somewhere, that not enough people got the new content and thus it wasn’t expanded further for a long time.
Basicaly the new content came to early, while people were still experiencing the game for the first time.

This could be a reason why it wasn’t followed up.

My biggest problem is mostly:
We see a great loss, but we don’t know how big it really is.

When they showed the pact fleet destroyed, I was unimpressed.
Like, these were really all?
Don’t they have a base of operation where they build these ships?
Were they really so stupid going for an all out attack?
How many of the force is hold back to guard the other frontlines?
How many “new troops” were gathered via the World Continental Summit?
Did they expand?
What is the size and infrasructure of the pact?

I mean, the orders themselves are hardly touched upon and we certainly need a bit of an update on their dealing throughout the world (hardly as in: “we see them do their obvious stuff, but not much comming out of it as it is all location based and doesn’t really go towards a goal.”)

Lore Q&A

in Lore

Jaken.6801

Question, unsure if it was asked as I don’t have the time to read the long posts in this thread since I last looked.

Anet, is there any reason why the PC so utterly hates Caithe in the final missions of HoT, where the PC’s comment about Caithe disappearing after City of Hope (taking the egg to Tarir), is a neutral sounding statement about how “She’ll turn up again.” Then the very next time they meet, the PC is extremely hateful and distrusting of Caithe.

edit: I ask because it feels to me that the relationship between the PC and Caithe does a number of dramatic flip-flops in HoT.

To be honest, there are a lot of dramatic flip-flops.
I think there is a lot we have to add in ourselves, because we only see important moments.
That’s why we suddenly trust Canach, even though we declared our hate for a long time and are all buddy buddy with him at the end.
We missed the budding friendship that blossomed in several nights spend together under the stars.

The tarnished traitor might be kept alive, since he is in Tarir and is bound to that place.

On ascension.
It definetly wasn’t ascension. The flame we got was just temporary and something that for some unexplained reason appeared as substitute.

I personaly though it was great in a nostalgic sense, but also very weird if you start to ask questions.

Like, what would happen if we would have performed the ritual in a small room, instad of a big elaborate library.

Why didn’t the doppelganger appear, but does so, thanks to a “random” (?), mirror.
Would we ascend if we included the doppelganger fight?

The “replacement” ritual just doesn’t make sense in my opinion. Nice throw back, but shouldn’t there be other ritual sites around the world? I mean exactly like these and not the others we got in Cantha or Elona.

Remove the gambling aspect in favor of selling desirable products directly.

I don’t mind the gambling.

If people want to gamble, let them.

I have a problem with the fact that it is the only way to get those items.

If, for example, the whole gem-store was in the BLC and people would be able to get some costly items cheaper thanks to their investment , it would be a lot fairer, since people could decide how they would approach their desired item.

Go for the dice, or go straight to your wallet.

Now I am not proposing them to do that. It was just an idea. Still, I would always use my money for something I am guaranteed to get (like a wapon skin box in the gem-store, for a reasonable price… which isn’t 10€, thank you very much), instead of a chance to get something.

Again with this title? You won’t get my vote with that kind of opening my friend.

Secondly I don’t really care.
It is a nice little extra effort to try and avoid enemies and run through the world without being hit.
Staying fast that way is kinda rewarding.

Turning down downscaling isn’t an option, because these players could possible interfere much more with lower level content, mostly in a trolling way.
Like insta kill events, etc.
So, yeah, not so good.

If you run by a certain mob for the 50th time and he still hits you, then you might want to change your means of traversing. There are enough skills, abilities and routes to take, that won’t slow you down.

They actually make a lot more sense, then other things I have heard, since they greatly incorporate the game and the store and try to balance the feeling of reward much more than the current system is doing.

I would add for the BLC Weapons one thing, though: Don’t introduce weapons that enemies wield
If I see an enemy wield the ley line weapons for example and they are special enemies then I prefer them to drop these items, instead of getting them via Evon Gnashblade and his shady dealing with the enemy.
It just helps the imersion a lot more.

Untradable weapon skins

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Jaken.6801

Jaken.6801

GW2 is buy to play, not pay to play(This is obvious.) They make their money from the Gem Store, and they are a business their goal is to make money. They may need money to hire knew help for other features everyone wants. It also seems like a lot of players, who say they have never or only ever bought a few keys, demanding this to change. Most of us have been playing free for years, we got our moneys worth. Anything you spend after that is on you.

While I think that Anet should keep an open dialogue, they do not need to ask the community to change anything, and they can change stuff without the community wanted. And, Anet does occasionally hook the player base up with something if their screw up is such a nightmare.

Now do I not like the idea to have Minis or Weapon Skins being account bound, but I don’t run Anet. Best thing is to remain civil, stop demanding, stop the "I am never playing or doing X anymore. Just say what bugs you with out hulking out on the forums.

Also, again, they are a business, and the point of a business is to make money.

I think that is very clear.

Thing is more around the fact that one reason people are reluctant to buy keys is the RNG that comes with them.
You won’t get your moneys worth most of the time.

The normal system lessened that burden, simply by offering an alternative.
It wasn’t perfect, but it offered at least another way to aquire said items, wothout the danger of bad luck.
I mean, it is much more reassuring to convert gems to gold and then buy from the TP for a guaranted success, instead of gambling away a lot, with a high chance of getting nothing.

The new “special” system does only cater to people who are willing to jump through their hoops, buys keys and or get them through other ways.

A) Are the experimental armor representive of the final product. By that I mean, the same model, but with a refined skin, so it doesn’t look so cheap?

B) If the legendary armor looks different, does it’s design include long running wishes from the community? (Charr tails and Horns, no trenchcoats, pants, no buttcapes, etc. )

C) Will there be other legendary armor later on, if people are not satisfied with the current design?

D) Can you elaborate a bit on the design philosphy behind these armor? Is there a certain story it follows, or does it follows a certain theme?
I notice a “dragonslayer” approach, with the experimental.

E) Will current feedback be used for the future development?
Certain things should have allready influenced the current armor design, but that doesn’t seem the case, as we see many “mistakes” popping up again.

If that is the case, then I really am concerned on what they call legendary.
Oversized skulls?
Ugly trenchcoats
Pretty standard light armor.

The skin right now shows that there is still some polish needed, but if we see a hint of the endresult then I am concerned.

I mean that would certainly mean: Slay the Blade , because I don’t know what Stay the Blade is supposed to mean.

Though it could actually be a peace message, like Sheet the Blade and the writer just couldn’t remember the right word anymore and Stay was just fitting.

The 2nd New-Krytan character is a T, I can guarantee it’s not an L.

As said above: “Stay the Blade” is basically telling the Shining Blade to refrain from meddling into affairs in two ways:

  1. Blade referring to the Shining Blade which should keep their distance from the political affairs.
  2. Blade referring to the Shining Blade’s weaponry which they should not draw in order to keep their distance.

It just sounds better than:
“Hey Shining Blade, stay away from our affairs both in political and combat-related situations!”

I know that, though it just sounds kinda silly.
How about:
“Don’t trust the Blade”
“Keep the Blades away”
“Sheet the Blade”
“Stop the Blade”
etc…

A better solution would be simply an armor without boobplate.
Female armor doesn’t need to show off the female breast anatomy, to look good and fitting.

In any case Yes change to male, or better create a new more race sensitive armor, that is still feminin.

If the simple copy, paste and stretch approach is your solution to legendary armor for a game that has five different and unique races, then I am a bit disapointed to be honest.

Mostly, because there are some very distinctive problems there, that seriously should not happen with these kind of prestige armor

So I would ask you to go back to the drawing board and adjust for all races, which would include Charr tails and horns, Asura feet and ears and don’t make the Norn shoulders so giant.

So we should trust someone who offers enemy weapons before we encounter them?

I don’t know. His tradings don’t seem much better then the consortium.

I don’t mind sexy armor.
It just feels weird if there is such an imbalance.

On another note, I actually like the disparity. It’s often like having two completely different sets, and allows for an even wider range of customization.

On a one sided level, though, since you are still gender locked and your personal variability doesn’t change, till you change that character

I would prefer a more balanced approach, because we simply got enough skimpy already.

I can only look at so many full clad vs half naked counterparts.

I mean, the greatest offender is the cool looking phalanx armor.

Even full clad can be sexy. We don’t need to see everyones bellybutton all the time.
Neither do we need to see her legs, tights, arms and most of their breasts…

It’s okay for an armor now and then, but every armor so far is following that trend and it gets annoying

The vast majority of female heavy armor is fully covering their bodies with the only possible complaint being the asinine “buh da boopplate!” argument.

The same goes for Medium and Light armor.

Everyone just zooms in on Human T3 Medium and Light because they are extreme contrasts to the norm, and not at all representative of what most armor sets look like.

Wait, so there aren’t several armor that are suddenly less on female vs their male counterpart?
like armor that is highly sexualized to show off breasts and the like?
Armor that is heavily emphazizing the female anatomy, even though it doesn’t have to?
Armor that looks completly different from the male counterpart?

Are you sure we are playing the same game?

I mean, just look at the simple Kasmeer armor. Male version is a boring sack, the female invokes a scantyly clad phoenix.

Here some examples for light armor:
Apprentice, Conjurer, Dry Bones, Stately, Aurora, Winged, Masquerade, Sorcerers, Whisper and Vigil, inquest, Diviner, incarnate.

I don’t mind sexy armor.

I’d like to reply to those who are saying that making this set account-bound is “a money grab.” Please keep in mind that we make the same amount of revenue for each BLC weapon skin that enters the game through MTX regardless of whether or not that weapon skin is later resold on the trading post.

The currency exchange is a player driven market and as the gem-to-gold exchange rate has increased, the trading post value of BLC weapon skins hasn’t kept pace. That leads to the common complaint that it feels bad to buy Black Lion chests for gems, because it seems as if they’re full of things that you could have bought more cheaply by converting your gems to gold instead. It’s not our goal to make you feel like a chump for buying chests. After all, by buying chests, you’re supporting the creation of the content that everyone plays. So it’s nice for there to be account-bound things in the chests in addition to the other tradeable items. With a lot of the chest contents, it’s not possible for them to be account-bound, because for a lot of things you’d be screwed if you got dupes and couldn’t off-load them to friends or onto the Trading Post. By putting the skins on the Black Lion Weapon Specialists we support those who have stored tickets and still have a combination of account-bound and non-account-bound items in the chest, as we did before today’s release.

This set of purely cosmetic skins still can ultimately be acquired either by purchasing them or by earning gold in the game and trading it for gems. If you like getting skins from the chests that can’t be obtained more cheaply through the trading post, use your claim tickets on these weapons. Or if you prefer tradeable skins, use your claim tickets for the other weapon sets, or acquire those weapon sets by trading for them with other players who bought them with claim tickets.

We on the dev team want to thank you again for taking the time to share your views with us.

However that is a problem.

You first have to get your golden ticket.

it isn’t as easy. In fact it can be rather annoying.

Do you know how many tickets I got together over the years? Let me just tell you that it isn’t a satisfying process to have five keys and get only useless consumeables and maybe a scrap.
And you need ten scraps for a ticket.

Do you realize how many annoying unneccesary and more importantly, possible, expensive steps that is, to get one skin from the gambling machine?

Yes, if you are really lucky it would be one BLC. Then you got one ticket on your first go.
Scraps don’t eliviate that problem, because you need ten chests for that and have scraps in every one of them.

Of course that isn’t the case and you often get swamped with such essential things like Repair Canister.

Let me just tell you this. The way you believe you are helping, isn’t taking care of our problem, but yours .

We just want a reliabable way to get the things we want.
BLC gambling isn’t that way.
In fact it is the complete opposite.

BLC feels cheap, because the investment is often not the end result.

You actually don’t get revenue for the BLC Weapon, because I bet you get more revenue from each failed attempt at getting one.
I also don’t see how you get revenue from things, that no one paid for, because he converted gold to gems or got a key by playing.

So these things just don’t add up.

I will add that some of your thoughts have some weight behind them, but they still don’t adress the problem here.
You are providing a service. A service, which right now, is already mostly only tolerated because you are controling it.
However a service is bound to it’s customers. You don’t anger your customers.
You don’t use them as test subjects (at least not in such a blatant way).

Yes, you have the right to defend your income, by any means neccesary, but please be transparent upfront.
Don’t use extortion tactics to squeeze money out of us, just to please the ticket holding minority.

I mean, why do they not spend their tickets? Because your content isn’t satisfying for them.

Don’t shake our hand smiling, while the other is holding a dagger behind your back.

Reading this thread, we understand your questions and want to share a little information: This set is designed to be a special, exclusive set and therefore it’s a little different than most. There are a couple of other interesting factors that you’ll want to know: The set is available for one ticket. It will remain priced at one ticket into the future, so someone who wants it now doesn’t need to be concerned about it becoming unavailable or about it rising in price in the future. Other sets currently available are not account bound, such as the Cavalier Weapon Set which was recently released at a price of 1 Black Lion Claim Ticket and remains at that price now. In addition, we do intend to continue to offer tradeable sets in the future. If you’d like a preview of the new set, go to your bank wardrobe and filter for “Privateer.” We hope this answers your questions, and thanks for sharing your thoughts.

To be honest, a bit more clarification before release (maybe some polls?) would be nice. (and please ask us, if we like the RNG BLC thing in general. I personaly don’t like it)

The BLC gambling thing in general is not liked that much already, mostly due to the fact that several new items get released there, instead via new content (Like things we see enemies wield, but don’t drop).
Right now we get a whole set every two weeks, with a big drough in other content.

The BLC is something that is only tolerated, because there is alittle alternate route, but nothing more.
The system in which we are able to aquire items, without the need to jump through RNG hoops is also only tolerated because it is less painful.

Overall is the idea of the BLC skins so very anti-consumer, that I am really questioning why it endured so long, even though it was said a lot of time, that people would gladly pay money to get direct access (which ironicly the gem to gold conversation allows)

I don’t understand why you gate these things so much and “force” people to play the lottery.
Just to get some extra sales in?

I mean, these skins aren’t even that special. They are flutes strapped to weapons (Still cool and I like them, but not special enough).

The distribution model isn’t special as well. It is something you allready tried before and even with the curtesy of them being available forever (?), they are still gated more strongly then all others before.

Yes, the others are more limited, but you don’t have to jump through several hoops just for a chance to get them.

Why should I care about these flutes if the new skins are actually interesting?

There are just so many things, this new “special concept” isn’t adressing.

Again, what is the point?
