Why does everyone assume that the elite specs need or are even relevant to the lore, revenant is one thing but all the others dont need some special story line, they can just be considered variations in fighting styles for the existing classes and dont need to have any outside reference and simply exist as the way your player character fights

Its almost cringe inducing when i see people trying to force some storyline for each elite spec and whine at anet to add them when its not at all necessary

People “assume” such because ArenaNet explicitly stated such.

Marjory becomes the first reaper; Dragonhunter was made based off of Braham’s story, Scrappers are derived from the charr engineering and social class of the same name as they determine to get into more combative roles, etc. etc.

Just as Rytlock is not only the first revenant but first herald, Marjory is the first reaper and Braham is the first Dragonhunter.

Devs had long ago stated it – the very first thing we knew about reapers back in January 2015 was that Marjory starts it. They said there’d be lore on the elite specializations. They said one of their biggest regrets with GW2’s professions was the lack of lore and story around the core professions in the game.

So it’s only natural people are expecting Anet to fix “one of their biggest regrets” and fulfill promises that the elite specializations have lore to them.

Unfortunatly, they also stated that with the Dragonhunter the lore devs and the elite devs did not really communicate as much as they wanted, resulting in the elite devs just running with a quick idea and creating a weird name with no real meat behind it (lorewise).

While it would be simple to introduce special troops, masters, etc around the world or in the new areas we (for some reason, but even that could be explained), never saw before, I don`t think we will ever get that.
I mean, even the different fighting style approach would be good enough to a certain degree.

Now we got some new info on LS3:
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/state-of-the-game-update-q1-2016/

With the recent death of Mordremoth, the Pact and its armies are in disarray with the vast majority of its troops dead or missing. Survivors have begun to regroup or gone home to mourn the dead while the heroes of the great invasion into the jungle investigate a strange disturbance to the north. Within the golden city of Tarir, the last known dragon egg rests protected by the Exalted—but the egg begins to crack. What creature lies within the egg? An enemy or an ally? In other corners of Tyria, the remaining powerful elder dragons continue to expand their control—but what impact will the death of the two of the elder dragons have on them and on Tyria itself? What impact will being held by Mordremoth have on Zojja and Logan? What research will Taimi uncover at Rata Novus? What plans do Anise and the Shining Blade have for Canach? How will the Black Citadel react when they learn of the return of Rytlock? These questions and more await you in season three of Living World! We’ll give you more details as we get closer to its launch.

While they say that there will be more, the absent of anything Sylvari related is kinda disapointing.

What do you make out of these news? Any hope shattered or rather revitalized?
I am a bit on the edge to be honest.

Mordremoth too talkative?

Jaken.6801

If he had at least something interesting to say…

However I do not believe that we are more special than the last group of races that tried to fight back.

I don`t mind a talktive enemy, but it has to fit.
Mordremoth just went on and on about how powerfull he is and how feeble our atempts will be.
If he would gave other reasons than his own strenght, then he would be more interesting than just gloating.

I mean, shake up our minds, have us question our ways. Is it right to fight the elder dragons? What if they are needed? Maybe create a scenario where we are actually trust him.

Mordremoth tried it at the end, as he attacked us with our failures, but that backfired, as we allready had a strenghtened resolve and tha attack was way too late.

Slow and steady, keep us guessing what is right and what is wrong. Suprise us.

It is not easy, I know, but that would be a villain I wouldn`t mind listening to.

How is Anet going to top Mordremoth?

There are several ways to play with the eldar dragons.

I mean, one of the first things they could do is causing devestation in the safe zones up to the home cities and the sourounding areas.

My bet is on Divinities Reach (which will never happen) in combination with Primordus.
We have the big hole, which is now covered up by the celebration area.
We got rumors of sounds coming up from beneath.
We got a dam, which holds back water from Queensdale.

A nice little earthquake, bursting the dam, leveling the upper levels of the city, flooding the starter area, causing humans to relocate or even become fugitives to other races.
Which could be an interesting way to go, depending on how the Sylvari stuff is resolved (I am still thinking of some racism crsuade against them on behalf of the humans anti Queen side, with some White Mantle mixed in), as the tables would be turned and the ones who hunted them need refuge now.

After that bombshell there would be a need to reclaim land or rebuild somwhere else.

Other than that.
We have Primordus and Steve, which might not be as easy to grasp as we might want to, since based on their spheres their body could be water or lava and like Mordremoth we would have to find a way to defeat something untangable as that.

Kalkratorik and Jormag seem to be quite the powerhouses which sport very nasty spheres and domains as well.

All of them would be a fight against nature as well.
So yeah.

Overall, i think it is more a problem on how it is written and not how they top it.

The Dragons and the Directions

Jaken.6801

Kalkratorik went southeast anyway. He started the Charr homelands and went down to Elona.

In fact we don`t really know where the others are, as they could be in movement anyway.
I would laugh if we get Kalkratorik coming from up north, simply because he just went around the world, or we meet Jormag in Cantha (if we ever get there), since he went the other way.

After all they are supposed to be a global thread.

Are sylvari considered to be alive?

in Lore

Posted by: Jaken.6801

Jaken.6801

Well, Sylvari on their own are not able to reproduce.
However they come from the great tree, which is their form of reproduction.

While it is not interior (for now, I bet they could create some with reproductive “organs” ), they are reproducing to a degree.
Not in the way we are thinking about it.

i mean, reproducing in the bilogy sense usually means: “copy (some don`t need a partner) or recombination of DNA”. So combination of data/information.

Sylvari are connected to the dream, thus transfering their “data”, which then to some degree is applied to the new young Sylvari (They are thought in the dream, which is regulated by the pale tree).

new player story question

Jaken.6801

thanks for the info so fast just one more question what races combo well with a Asura?

In lore or in terms of story progression?

Story progression is more or less the same for every race (the digram shows how it converges to a single point)
The first story arcs are around your race and choices and after that it opens up, however only your character is the lead in his stoy (and vice versa).

How races are in relation to each other is hard to pinpoint.
Asura are the stuck up know-it-all`s. So they have a tendency to be annoying for or at other races (High IQ does not mean high social skills)

At the point of the story, every race is friendly (more or less, there is always some kind of racism here and there).
So they travel between each cities, trade and exchange technology (to a degree).

For roleplay, you can look at the race description and try to adapt it.

Gamemechanicwise it doesn`t really matter which race you play.

After the Tutorial you can enter your capital and use a gate to lions Arch and travel to any other capital from there.

new player story question

in Lore

Posted by: Jaken.6801

Jaken.6801

Hello,

GW2s story is playable with other players, however:

1. You can join the story of other players.

2. Personal Story is not replayable.

3. The first 30lvl are based around your race and are unique to your choices at character creation. You can however play the story of your friend and he can join you in your story.
You just have to make sure not to agree that your story progression is overwritten (you get a warning).

4. Every 10lvl there is a new story arc.

5. The story will have some choices, that come up later, so if you want the same experience and dont want to play some story parts twice, then you should try to coordinate.
There are always other characters and leveling is easy after your first level 80

Next is a slight spoiler, continue if you dont mind.

5. At one point you choose an order. As soon as you get initiated in the order, the story will be based around the order and not your race. this is the earliest point where the story comes together.

6. The narrative of the orders will also condense at around lvl 40 or 50. I just leave the place: Claw Island.

Extra notes

There is something called, Living Story/World, on one hand it is all the story changes that push the world forward, on the other hand they are story seasons, additional chapters after the Personal Story.

Living Story (LS) 1 was an experiment and while you see the aftereffects in the world (The Scarlet Incident), you are not be able to replay it at the moment. However there is an NPC in Lions Arch, whcih summerizes what happened after you finished the Personal Story.

LS2 is available via the gemstore. It is replayable and offers some additional challenges.

Living Story is for free if you play it at release, however you have to pay if you didn`t log in at that time and missed your free version .

I added a little diagram, which roughly shows how the personal story progresses.
i think you can make out how it is build.

Well that is interesting.

No one mentioned character specific dialog so far, so it might be something that will happen in later parts of the raid (correct me if I am wrong, because that way you will get us to search the place even more).

In that regard I am pretty excited and hope that it will pay of nicely.
On another note… please let the plot be mostly contained, with not too many loose ends.

One of my biggest problem is the amount of rewards (skins) in relation to the easy to get and the oney who are locked behind specific areas, RNG, time investment in combination with doing the same _ limited_ content.

We are forced into the new areas to get the new stuff.
Some of it has steps that requires us to go back to core Tyria, however to reap the whole benefits you need to participate repeadedly in HoT content, which isn`t balanced properly to keep being excited over a long time.

Many of the HoT specific rewards would be more interesting if they were accessable outside of HoT, like the new champion weapons.

However, overall there just isn`t enough new stuff and it is only available by doing these big time consuming contents over and over.
While the two armor sets are easy to get, the weapon skins are a nightmare and even required to complete your spezialisation colletions.

I am not talking about it is too hard , I am talking about that the amount is not enough to feel satisfying for the provided content.
Aside from the 7 weapon sets (from which 2 are just upgraded versions of older) and aprox 4 new armor sets, there are only 1-2 champion weapons, per weapon type.
These are only obtainable if you fight in the HoT areas and get specific bags there.

The rewards are very specific to HoT areas and subsequently not enticing for everyone who wants to play the rest of the game and doesn`t want to farm HoT.

I have seen the jungle. It is a great area. However the time investment to get anything done there is driving me to other game areas.
I have no interest going into the jungle at the moment.

While there are valid points in a lot of the gripes many people have about HoT. This one sounds a bit ridiculous to me. You are saying that you like the rewards for the new content, but you want to get them by doing old content? That doesn’t make any sense.

Now if you were to say that you wished they added more rewards and newer skins, weapons, whatever to the core Tyria, that I can understand. That way there are things to be gained from either place.

Back to OP though. I am on Reddit a lot too, and have seen those posts as well. It would be nice if there was some type okittennowledgment of some issues and a very basic statement about what might be done to rectify, or if they are just going to leave as is. But I won’t hold my breath.

Nah, I am more about the fact that they have only a small amount of new stuff, that is confined into the HoT maps.
Everything is tied deeply into the new content.

They designed everything around HoT and forgot about the rest.

The few skins (and even less interesting ones for me), don`t get me grinding these events over and over and don`t really feeling rewarded.

it is basicly a clusterkitten of lots of different things that play together here

Can we get some high level feedback?

That`s why I thought that we are expandding to other areas to gain more allies, till the whole world tries to fend them off (or the next big thing)

Unfortunatly the whole united Tyria (continent) wasn`t represented that much, aside from some guest characters here and there in the whole ordeal around Mordremoth.
Some came to the Silverwastes to help building , but in the jungle we don`t really find these forces, aside from the generic split Pact Forces (if there were any prominent groups there, I missed them.), which were still split in their orders for some reason (they were able to create a second unified weapon set and symbol but not a unified armor? oh wait… then they would have to give u a way to get them ingame and can`t press us for gems, as they have a new policy… i get off track).
Where are the Seraphs in the jungle? I thought the Queen and Logan offered some.
Did we find any Norn forces? Iron Legion?

Tyrias (continent) forces should be worn out (which is not really reflected, since the main races just offered some assistance and not their full capabilities) now, but that is something that will really happen till the next dragon, when we have to throw everything and their bathsink at the next attack.
(I don`t think we get whole new continents, even though we should. We stay on the continent as long as possible)

Theory: Zhaitan isn't dead

in Lore

Posted by: Jaken.6801

Jaken.6801

So why doesn’t Zhaitan exist in the Mists like every other dead person?

He/she might be, but not in the form we know.

Depending on which theory you follow, you become an Elder Dragon by absorbing their power.

A being called or named Zaithan governed the ED energy of death and shadow the last thousand years, however if Mordremoth is any indication the dragon we see as physical manifestation doesn`t have to be original body of the being who absorbed the power.

As we entered Mordremoth`s mind, he attacked us with something, which could have been his true self, while the snake/dragon outside is the physical manifestation of being an ED.

So the being called Zaithan can easily be in the mists (and the mists can reflect any state, so he could also be in his ED form), but not as a big dragon.
He could have been something else.

However that is just a theory. To answer your mist question: There is no reason not to believe that he isn`t there, as the mists are not flowing in one direction, but representing and reflecting everything.

Another thing to consider with Kralkatorrik as the next ED to take down is Logistics. With the Pact Fleet out of comission, I don’t really see us leading an Army against Jormag, crossing Mountain Pathways and glaciers or frozen lakes. Ofcourse that’s assuming we don’t have a new fleet of Aurships at our disposal but even if we do – with Jormags sphere being Ice, I wouldn’t rule out that he or his more powerfull minions can crate things like Snowstorms or Blizzards, especially while looking at the Frozen Maw and the Storms summoned by the Elemental/Shaman
So Air is a No-No with that one if we want to keep our new, shiny fleet we may be getting back.

Kralk on the other hand seems to be focusing on Elona/the desert, which can be reached pretty easily as far as we know. And I’m not only talking about Soldiers marching or Airships flying – think about the huge Tanks of the Charr, those seem nice enough for a joyride down south.

Sure, Kralk could have flown off to who knows where and may even now be stirring up trouble in Cantha, but given ANets storytelling so far, I’d rule that out and put my money on Kralk being somek*tten near the Desert/Elona

You know. i would be pleased if they would show us some of the logisitics.

For all we know, we just suddenly have a fleet of ships, but we don`t know where they are manufactured.

We don`t know anything on how the pact is getting things.
Just that the orders pitched together.

We don´t know if they established an HQ, we don`t know where they build their stuff, we don`t know much about their inner workings.

We only went to their forward bases and then poof we saw their toys in action.

Did they take over scarlets facilities?
Did we occupy their airships (even though the pact didn`t take care of Scarlet, but the lionsguard.)?
Did the order build them?

By all means, they could still have a ground based army, full of Charr-battle machinery somwhere on the border, ready for another ED, as they wouldn`t have worked for the jungle.

While flying is nice, riding an armored tank of destruction or driving through the desert on some cool Charr-bikes, would be awesome (Coming with the desert expansion Motorcross-Bikes , only available in the dersert region)

I know they changed their content release to:
- Armors ingame
- Outfits in Gemstore

However, as with the BLC Weaponsets, I don`t like the huge difference.

Sure, armor is more complex to create and is known for clipping issues.
Outfits are easier, for sure.

However people like the mix and match quality of armor. People wanted more armor.
It is baffling how much difference is building up between the ingame content and the gemstore stuff.

Even more with the introduction of seasonal, RNG and taking things out of the store to create extra demand.

In terms of armor skins, for me personaly, HoT was mostly a medicore release with the amount of armor skins (which completly disregarded the wishes of the community over the years) not holding up, to what was to be expected from their history of releases.

I realy hope they clarify some thigns. Tell us there is more in the pipeline, because right now I am just disapointed.
Not mad or angry, just disapointed.

How do I become a Revenant?

in Lore

Jaken.6801

I don’t think there’s a story behind it at all.

I mean, wouldn’t it be weird for all necromancers to create the same 6 kinds of minions? In lore, I doubt that’s the case – in fact, we know it isn’t because Ghosts of Ascalon has Killeen create a minion out of a fresh corpse as well as a pile of bones and being very much like its original shape..

Isn`t it more like this:
The things we as players are able to do are only part of what the whole profession is able to do.
Like Majory has no problem erecting a bone bridge or Kasmeer summoning dozens of phantasm to her aid.

It`s easier to asume that the abilities our character is able to perform is basicaly just a certain branch . Like a certain fighting style in martial arts.
Each move there has a purpose.
If you learn a Kata (a series of movements), each move is based on attacking or defending against attacks.
Everyone learns these moves, till they become muscle memory.

If you are an elementalist you learned that the spell that flys to the enemy and comes back looks like a bird and is called phoenix in public conciousness.

If you are a necromancer, you learned from your master/books/friends/nature that a pointy tip, claws and a hulking body is great to take damage and knock things over, resulting in the current design of the flesh golem.

There is a natural evolution of things and our abilities represented in the game ight be just one reflection of them.

Of course we might be able to do much more.

One thing I have to disagree however: story
We know that Rytlock went to the mist and came back as a revenant and with him Revenants were a thing through time and space. The End.

The other professions have history, schools, development, basics.
The Revenant has nothing at this point, beside theories.

there is a need for a common revenant backstory, that works retroactively without Rytlock, as his new powers could just be the herald , instead of every other legend, Revenants learn before HoT.

I know of none RPG that integrated a new class, without some explanation how it came to be.

Right now, the Revenant just is, but didn`t came to be.

We already know Primordus is probably at the Ring of Fire or IS the Ring of Fire, it only makes sense due to the fact that it’s the only major fire related region on the giant map.

Uh…

You couldn’t be more wrong. The Ring of Fire is an island chain that’s been around – in that place – for over a thousand years (at least since 1 BE).

Primordus has been sleeping beneath what is now the border between Frostgorge Sound and Fireheart Rise, just outside the Central Transfer Chamber, deep underground. He has sense been moving, but remained deep underground (deeper than we got at any point in GW1).

There is ABSOLUTELY no relation between the Ring of Fire and Primordus. In fact, prior to his fall, Zhaitan had control over the Ring of Fire islands via his risen fleet.

Primordus and his territory isn’t anywhere in the map, because it’s beneath the map.

adding to that, if Tyria works more or less the same way earth works, than his territory is everywhere beneath.

He and his minions are depicted as firey lava beings. So his power is heat, fire and earth to some degree.
EDs are always depicted by one of their domains (viney mordy and death body Zaithan), so it is possible he could freely move around.

He could even be stationed in the planets core (which, I have to admit, would be really cool).

@Aaron
There is also the fact that it has been some years, since these fights.
We only know rough directions of where the EDs went at this point.
Given the fact that the EDs are called a global thread and we finaly got a glmips of the whole world, what stops Kalkratoric to just fly further south and let the other dragons deal with Tyria, while he looks for other lucrative lands.

We know that other continents are full of magical powers as well.

The White Mantle Vs The Pact

in Living World

Posted by: Jaken.6801

Jaken.6801

It doesn`t have to be the white mantle vs. the Pact.

The white mantle return could still be of value:

- We got the political struggle in Kryta (Caudecus aiding the bandits, Queen Jenna not being a legitimate heir of the throne, anise working in the shadows, etc. )
- There is a locket that shows the real heir of the Krytan throne.
- Humans got enough reasons to hate other races at the moment. The Charr for the past and the Sylvari for the present problems.

So we got one opposition (Caudecus) allready who works with the White Mantle. A human centric group who went on a crusade for their belief: To protect the humans
Even if they were guided by false gods, most of them were doing it because they thought it was right.

They even stayed with the Mursaat after their plot has been revealed and tried to protect and later reclaim the Throne.

They have advanced knowledge on the bloodstones and other magic.
We don`t know how much they have learned over the years they went into hiding.
There could also be a Mursaat still be living.

However even without the Mursaat, the White Mantle could come up as the saviours of the humans, going on a crusade to fight everything that could harm them.
This would include hunting down Sylvari, as they are eldar dragon minions, which would tie into the preview of HoT we got at the end of LS2.

Once again, I don’t agree that Bubbles is ready for a campaign yet, but it’s getting to be about time to reveal what’s going on there. I wouldn’t get on the Bubbles hype train just yet… it’s been a long time coming, but I’m confident there’s a long time to go.

You know, till Colin slipped up about the jungle dragon, we didn`t think he was ready as well (which he wasn`t in the end, but that`s a different story).

By all means, they could just take us for a completly different direction again and BAM, DSD, start training underwater skills guys.

However given the fact that they are phasing out underwater weapons at the moment (which is a bad idea, as you could use these models for land based weapons later, but who am I to judge) and reducing the water areas in new content clearly paints a different picture.

It’s pretty obvious that the ‘long term story’ is Glint’s legacy. And given that Rytlock is a Herald, that means him becoming revenant is likely tied into it.

I don’t expect anything on this to be resolved soon™. We won’t see it concluded until we see the Elder Dragon arc concluded.

A Study In Gold has made that pretty clear to me. So has the constant cliffhangers and lack of explaining WHY THE EGG IS SO kitten IMPORTANT TO OUR CHARACTER.

Exactly that is what my little rant at the end was about.
Give us some answers allready.
It`s not like we have access to high profile people throughout the world, or have gained their trust thanks to our heroism. I mean, why would anyone want to tell us something.
Oh right… because it would make sense. We deserve it. It would make you more trustworthy. It would make us feel more important, instead of being a simple pawn in someone elses game (which it is, as we are following some stupid vision again… can we go back to Zaithan and forge our own path please… oh wait. There was a vision as well… In that case Scarlet was better, even if it was pretty clumsy handled)

Why can`t someone just tell us what is going on? Odgen? Rytlock? Glint? Pale Tree? Anise? Queen Jenna? Asura Council (okay, maybe not these guys)?

How about some conclusions about CoE, the pact doing a nice little presentation about their knowledge, putting theories aside.
Apearently we got the briefing abotu Mordremoths name… just not ingame… I want these notes too.
It might even have hints on: “I know, let`s attack him in his mind” .

Well, I ended up ranting again. I am sorry.

To the plot:

I would want them to clear some hints up and get the characters they introduced back on track.
They clearly cut character growth throughout HoT (like Kas and Maj, Rox…) for their narrow and focused presentation of their vision (please don`t do it again).

Btw. one storyline we certainly will tackle is Taimi becoming oracle for a while, playing on her asura (bat-) computer and giving us new hints on the EDs (which I don`t believe will be much, as the story has only finished two of six dragons and there could be many more important reveals later… can someone tell me why this game is making me so cynical? I am usual pretty upbeat about this stuff).

The population would be split if we go deep into Elona.

HoT is critizised for only adding four maps, however on the other hand these are only four maps people are going too.
If you imagine them adding a new continent the size of the core game, the population will thin out even more.

Right now they can control the people and keep the content relevant, however if you get a sudden big influx of new maps, which offer new stuff in various ways (better events, new skins, lore, etc. ), they will loose the attention of the core areas, simply because they are outdated . If they want to do that, they would have to update the old maps to keep them on the same level, which means updating rewards for example.

On the topic:
Trahearn was allready preparing troups on Kalkratoriks front, so we got intel and in the best szenario allready a forward base (btw. can we finally get a true pact HQ? I would like to see some kind of structure in this world army ) in his direction.

In the open world, we can see the pact being on the front of Jormag as well. Claw of Jormag is under Pact weapon bombardement, since release. Brahams is also in great need to do something relevant, so going Norn centric might be a good thing.

However, with your ideas, we actually got several plots we can tap into and which might work in tandem:

- Krytan conflict, the return of the white mantle, the peace negotiations with the charr around Ebenhawk and the racism against the Sylvari could boil down into one big mess. Eryone is going at each others throat (thanks to PTSD) and the White Mantle (I want them in full armor, please), who was very radical in the past (very human centric, though the alliances the WM-Bandits had with the other races are questionable) might swoop in trying to gain the trust on the side of the humans.
We still got Caudecus plot to some degree, who dealt with the bandits, for example.
Also, there is the mystery of the Krytan Locket.

Don`t think we go all Cantha here, though, since we had such a story allready.

- LA gets destroyed again (please this) and we get a proper redesign, because the Consortium was cheap (as long as these sea creatures don`t form a Megazord, i don`t care about them.). Three headed Seamonster, ftw.

- We don´t go into sidestory stuff (which we should in my opinion. So many open questions) and head towards the Crystal Desert for one simple thing: Answers . We still got Glints layer there, if I am not mistaken. Maybe we can go in there.

Extra: RYTLOCK EX MACHINA: Our too cool for explanation Charr finaly spills the beans and we get on a completly different journey, following Glints glourious lagacy, as we only know where one of four beams went.

Overall i don`t care where we are going. All I want is some answers. It wasn`t funny after season 1. It wasn`t funny after season 2.
Mysteries for mysteries sake are just annoying and if they keep piling up they will never be resolved if we take the current developmentcycle into acount.

Now I am not disillusional to the point that they will be able to answer everything (just look at the pile left over from GW1, but other games aren`t any better), but I would like some things just flat out answered.
Keeping them in store for later is a nice little idea, however silence is just as annoying as an “you will see”. Though with the later we would have at least the confirmation that it would amount to anything and we aren`t theorycrafting into a void.

Given how she handles social interaction, as well as how they have portrayed her problem solving ability and information acquisition and application I would say yes, Taimi is more intelligent than Zojja. But that’s because nobody likes Felicia Day anyway.

That is kinda your own opinion.
If you don`t like her stuff, thats okay, but I think her popularity says otherwise if we start throwing words like “nobody likes her”, around (btw. I liked her in Eureka and Supernatural)
Also judging a voiceactor by the script she/he was given is also top notch, keep it up.

However, that is offtopic.

Going on topic: If we talk social intelligence, then yes, Taimi is better in that regard, from the perspective we are given. Zoijas fault is the one of almost every Asura, that they feel better than everyone else.
However even her warms up to people.

Do you remember how Taimi was at the beginning? She was as anti-social and high up as any other Asura.
The only difference between her and Zoija is (ingame) that we spend more time with her and see her change to the point she is part of a group.

What friend what hylek? What story did I played?

Hylek racial sympathy story plot. It’s the only one where you encounter risen during the racial sympathies.

Friend with charr = Howl, whom was your warband mate (unfortunately given that Anet decided to wipe out your warband in the tutorial you never actually got to talk to him outside 3 sentences).

TLDR: I only have problem with how the plot ends with going behind enemy lines every single game to win with no deviation. Tired of being Tyria’s Commando Squad.

Zhaitan seems to be a slight exception like Prophacies. GW1 plots were the same with Shiro, Abaddon and great destroyer. Prophecies was more complex bigger plot but also included the going behind enemy lines plot

You are right in that it follows typical plot of heroic quest. I think Anet needs to deviate from this. Especially with the part about going behind enemy lines with your crew. Every single GW game did that. Why do we always need to do the go behind enemy lines. For example, why not have a plot where we just have no idea how to win and are forced to fight the foe head on. No going behind enemy lines we kill the minions at great loss and we brute force the antagonist shear grit. Or another example allow/force said antagonist to come out and fight due to reasons. They surely can vary the final part of the formula. They do vary the plot in between the first 3 steps.

Pardon, but when has evil army leaders ever not been protected by his army?

And… fighting the army head on is what Factions and Zhaitan plot did. It’s what Mordremoth plot did too. Yet you called it ‘going behind enemy lines’.

You also meet risen in the Quaagan sympathy plotline, if I am not mistaken.

What is Bubbles second domain?

in Lore

Posted by: Jaken.6801

Jaken.6801

No, it is not ‘obviously’ at all.

We know Zhaitan’s and Mordremoth’s two domains because they were told to us. Following the nickname of the dragons which is the first domain – Elder Death Dragon, Elder Plant Dragon aka Jungle Dragon – we can guess the first domain of the other four pretty easily because they have the same kinds of nicknames (Elder Fire Dragon, Elder Ice Dragon, Elder Crystal Dragon).

The DSD is not once called “Elder Water Dragon”. The DSD’s only nickname is in relation to its location. Deep Sea Dragon comes from the same coining that called Kralkatorrik the ‘desert dragon’ or Zhaitan the “orrian dragon” or Primordus the ‘rock dragon’ – it’s where they are not what their domain is.

Furthermore, the first domain – based off of the nicknames – is also the form in which their corruption takes shape. Plants, death/decay, ice, fire, and crystal.

The DSD’s corruption takes the form of tentacles as far as we are told. It corrupts water, but it doesn’t take the form of water – he twists water into tentacled creatures.

If we go off of that – our sole piece of information on the DSD’s minions’ appearance – then the DSD’s first domain is not water but tentacles. His nickname would be the Elder Tentacle Dragon.

That seems unlikely to me.

Whatever his domain is, it’s not water from what we know. Water is its location. Water is what it corrupts, not what it corrupts into.

So unless he corrupts water into corrupted water – entirely possible since Primordus corrupts fire into corrupted fire – its domain isn’t water. And even if it is, we don’t know that, because what we know points to “domain of tentacles”.

Adding to that Primordus is most likely using heat, not fire directly (don`t remember corrupted fire). His minions are molten stone, lava or magma (depending how deep we are under the earth ), so he is more alike to using heat energy. So him being part of the earth, rocks is certainly valid.

We see Kalkatorik using a lot of lightning and he creates crystals. He could be the crystal dragon, however what if the energy and heat of his lightning just manifests in crystal form, like when lightning hits sand and creates glass and other crystalin structures.
Though with theme I would have rather have him wield light and be more illusionary. The theme is just too perfect for it.

Overall, we can only asume many things, till they happen. They certainly don`t want to give us any hints on the DSD. They cut it out of the Crucible of Eternity, the secret room of the Priory and Glint and the Forgotten withold them in their little test.

Even the Raid is only speculation, based on a unintentional comment from a dev, which might mean something (tentacles) or nothing in the end.

I mean, by that logic and how that particular boss is wielding souls as well, DSD is actually based arounds ghosts and souls (which could be quite interesting. Zaithan brings back the dead to torment you, Mordremoth attacks your mind with your dead and Steve tortures their soul… hey Tybald, want to come around for a third round? )

As far as we know, every campaign had their own hero.
The only people who were consistent to a degree were our Tyria-Allstars, as they came around and helped out.

The only canon follow up story, would be Eye of the North, because it could start from every campaign.

“The Hero” of GW1 is not us. It is one of many, since every fight he fought was thanks to others (aside from ascending the first time, though).
If we would channel “the hero” it would be the group around Devona and every ability, would be based on one of her friends, with one called: “The unsung hero” , representing our many forms he could have taken in the past.

Actually, that would be cool.
Devona could be a hammer smash, Mhenlo the healing, Cynn Aoe elemental damage.
Each of them apearing as a ghostly facet… only the hero without a face or a distinctive design… He could do a lot of confusion

That’s debatable. You can very much play through every campaign with the same character, they even have specific points where the character enters the narration. Aside from that, Devonna and the gang don’t show up for most of Prophecies. Saying she and the others did everything is a bit of a stretch. They also only appear alongside the Prophecies PC in Factions, so after the quarter of the story already took place and they also only appear in Nightfall after the Elonian PC already did all that stuff in Istan. And in that game they barely even matter since the game had the hero npcs from that point on, so Koss, Dunkoro and so on.
If anyone even remotely matters it’s Mhenlo, since he had the role of mentor for the Cantha adventure, for non-canthan PCs. Still he was less significant to the plot than Togo. Aside from that Devonna and the others only ever tag along. The PC is clearly the leader of the group, once the actual leader dies/too injured to fight (Rurik in Proph, Togo in Factions and Kormir in Nightfall). And EotN doesn’t even bother with a mentor anymore (and why would it? no matter where the PC comes from, he is already an accomplished hero).

Of course. However the hero was always part of a group.
Even if he was the one who went through everything (and I know, we can carry the hero and his group over from everywhere, since they are chronologicaly after each other and each of them sends out a call for help), he never did things alone.
Of course he should be mentioned in some way, but time isn`t always so greatful.

Do dragons have souls? Apparently yes, because of Glint. Somehow Rytlock was able to commune with Glint in the Mists. Or maybe Glint is a special case, or maybe that’s not how Rytlock got Glint’s power?

Revenants do not channel souls, they channel echos of people/creatures who have made a big impact on the world and thus on the mists.

Then where is the hero of GW1?

As far as we know, every campaign had their own hero.

No. Actually PC is the main villain because s/he killed off all elder dragons and bring chaos to Tyria. Glint’s egg help the remaining survivors to build the new world and it brings us GW3.

Lol. that would make lots of lore players flipped out….

Weeeeeell if GW1 is any indication, Anet actually likes having the player ruin everything: Collected a group of chosen that would later be sacrificed, gave the Scepter of Orr to the White Mantle, helped the Lich get the Scepter, helped releasing the Titans, broke the seal that held Palawa Joko and helped a xenophobic institution commit genocide on it’s own people. That’s just off the top of my head.

Heroes cliche story 101……. You can see it in comics…in movies, in whatever medium that there are heroes that actually was the caused of the situation in the first place……..

Or in real life…
I mean, one of my favourite wisdoms is: Either die a hero, or see yourself become the villian

Luckily, we went further and tried to make things right in the end and that sentence is just one part of a bigger story.

You will always think you do good for someone, till you see the greater picture.
There is a lot restraint needed not to become like he things you fought against, as power does corrupt and only a little bit of it in the wrong hands can result in a great catastrophe.

Overall, a hero for me is no one who is perfect, but someone who rises up, even if he had failed and tries to do things right.
He doesn`t have to be the hero of the masses for that.

Fact: Zones are stuck in time. The state of Orr in the open world is perpetually pre-Zhaitan. Same goes for all other zones besides Southsun, Dry Top, Silverwastes, HoT maps, and any dialogue not affected by the Living World (that has made the placement of maps in time odd – half of Kessex is now post-Zhaitan while half is still pre-Zhaitan).

Fact: Dragon minions do not die with the Elder Dragons’ death (if this was so, all sylvari would have died).

Fact: The Pact did go to ground level. They even collected his tail for the Priory to run experiments on. How they managed to get that tail inside the Durmand Priory’s basement is a mystery solvable only by Leeroy Jethro Gibbs.

Fact: ArenaNet has stated Zhaitan is dead. Mind, they’re known to retcon their forum posts and interviews before when a certain female writer is involved.

Now, it wouldn’t be impossible for Zhaitan’s ‘body’ to be dead but his ‘spirit’ being ‘alive’ and having moved to another body – e.g., Tequatl. This is a theory some have been throwing since Tequatl Rising. And Mordremoth only makes it a bit more realistic.

It depends. Does the tail work like a boat?

Otherwise. Since we did not see where Zaithan, or better, his dragon energy went, like with Mordremoth, it is possible that someone or something else might be corrupted to be the next “Zaithan”.

The question is, would he call himself that?

Considering the HoT storyline was meant to be about Mordremoth, they’ll probably do a whole plot-line revolving around Revenants and Rytlock at a later date in LS3 or some other kind of storyline.

Everything we know about Revenants is contained in this blog post: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/hidden-arcana-role-playing-the-revenant/

One thing i’d like to point out is the following quote, because people running around declaring that all Revenants MUST go to The Mists or they’re not a Revenant is bugging me, when it clearly states the following in the blog post:

“a brand-new revenant starting on their journey will not have had to visit the Mists or undergo any more of an advanced process to access revenant powers than they would for the other core professions.”

Yeah, so far the statement of: “It`s magic, we don`t have to explain”, sadly still rings true.

Also, I don`t believe they will fix all plotholes they dug so far with the fabled LS3.
It`s like believing that FF15, former Versus-13, a side-story, will be the saviour of the franchise.
It could bring trust back, but it won`t reach the full capacity a full fledged release would have done (analogy to the narrow HoT story)

Wibbly Wobbly Timey Wimey.

The power of the Revenant is being unlocked through time and space by Rytlock, who aquired it in the Mist.
Because the Mists are everything, it ripples though them, changing the reality we all knew into one, where Revenants are commonplace, even though Rytlock is officialy the first to ever exist.

Unfortunatly Revenants are created and placed, they don`t really come with a explanation, aside from: It`s magic, deal with it

Luckily the mists come with one great advantage: Suspension of disbelief which is changing the minds of everyone in this reality of Tyria, so no one will every question or really aknowledge the fact that you are a revenant or that these even exist, till Rytlock enters the proper Timesteam again.

Or you know… the developers had some kind of cool idea, but didn`t had the ressources to impliment it right, resulting in former statement: It`s magic, deal with it

There is some blog post about roleplaying though, but that won`t really answer your question either.
You are just a Revenant, without any real backstory, since our good friend Rytlock decided to keep his snout shut and didn`t spill the beans on where or how he got his sword back and became a magical reality splitting ninja, who hears voices.

Since last week (raid patch?) GW2 started to use too much of my systems ressources.

I normaly have no problem playing the game and watching something on youtube or netflix on my second monitor.
I know Firefox uses more RAM, the longer I use it, but it will go down after I stop it.

For years, that was never a problem. I had dozens of tabs open. No slow down.

Now last week, things changed. Suddenly the game slows down.
I stop firefox, since it was the only major programm running in the background, going up to 1,2GB RAM usage at that time (I only have 8GB right now)

Then I saw GW2, going up to 1,2GB and later up to around 2GB.
I was on the 64bit client. However it did not happen at its release, so it had to be somethign to do with the patch i figure.

The RAM usage won`t go down after I close GW2, keeping it at 70-88%, not like Firefox, which I used to compare it to.

Th PC slows down and only a restart returns it to normal performance.

Edit
The 32bit client works better, it also goes into the 1,8GB range of RAM usage, but it runs smoother and releases the space after closing the game.

Relevance of the early lore interviews?

if i understood it right every skill is some kind of magic.
Warriors buffs an shouts, are amplified by magic for example.

i guess it is more along the line: Everyone is potentialy able to wield magic, but not everyone chooses to master it

The best example would be our PC in relation to other NPC, who have chosen the same direction.

We express our abilities mostly on the battlefield and all our abilities and knowledge are based around combat.
Sometimes the writers use our profession to show off that there is more to it (like engineers, who can work or explain cerain machinery)

We see other NPC who can fly thanks to their air magic, or call upon the dead with Rituals with necromancy.

That everyone is able to use magic, doesn`t mean they might have a choice.

Let`s say you grow up as the son of a farmer and you want to be a farmer. However you are only adapt in using nacromancy.
While you could learn to summon minions, other skills are maybe more usefull for your profession.
You are a farmer. Educating yourself in another direction might not be beneficial.

Adding to that the dialog you mentioned: Being able to use it and being able to learn and wield are two different things.
You might be really strong, however without the right technique you won´t be able to throw a ball as far, as if you have learned how to do it properly.

Same might go for magic. You might have to learn how to channel it.
It might just not be for everyone.

No
There is no pre-order bonus that got me excited so far, if they only go digital.
Except if there is a new class and the character slot for it is bound to the pre-purchse.

And even then, it is questionable because:
- I want a physical release I can put on my shelf
- I want a physical collectors edition with some cool goodies, since the digital ones are not worth the price tag (wasn`t for GW2 or HoT)
- I want to know how much content has been revealed. Like: “this is about X% of that particular content”
- I want to know, that there are more than a few weapon and armor sets
- I want to asured that the story is way above an LS release, not like HoT which had some CGI extra power.
- I want a complete experience and not a stepping stone like HoT is.

And other stuff.
HoT was too much riding the hypetrain for me and the areas where I personaly interested in, were underdevoloped and full of underused potential.

HoT is a good expansion, however it is stretching the term, so I am cautious for the future.

At least that is what Zoija said, as she asked us to take care of her (more or less).

So she has above average understanding of things. However between her and Zoija the difference is the fields.

Zoija for once is a great Golemancer. That`s her expertise.
Taimi learned in the same field, because the Golem was a great tool for her to get around.
Right now she changed subjects to a lesser known topic: ley line energy
She took a look into a new field in Rata Sum technology and is now on the frontline of understanding that area, since so far no one was really touching that matter in a big way.

We now learned that Rata Novus did allready do research in that area and was even using it in a very advanced manner, so we might see Taimi adapt and take some more leaps in that field.

Going realisticly: She is still a child and has the mind of a child. She is missing experience in life. Some experience she might never get.

[Sugg] Story Aftermath... AMA from writers

in Lore

Posted by: Jaken.6801

Jaken.6801

Do we do a list now?

Still, i would like some explanations on why HoT was so narrow?

Why many plot parts, just weren`t followed up?

Why the character development was so lackluster (Rytlock: “I gotz magickz nao, but don`t tell you how, nyao”, Braham: “My mother is dead and I want to kill dragons even more”, Kasmeer and Majory: “Yeah, we got problems. Oh and the sword ghost thingy… you know… nevermind”, Rox: “I track stuff?”, Taimi: “Please take me more seriously.” (Didn`t we had that part of her before?) and Canach: “FREEDOM and FREE WILL” or something along the line. (btw. I am overexagerating of course))?

Why did the mantra of: “HoT will be the base for the future”, went into the story department, which allready had a solid base?

Overall I would suggest two AMA:
- HoT making of: How things came to be. How things that are in the “final” release, were chosen.
We allready know why it feels so focused in the story, but why does the world outside of the story not going deeper into established lore, aside from some homages (especialy the druids, though Rata Novus was an interesting, even though not that satisfying (right now) experience)

The pace is deliberate for this expansion, so some of the other things you mentioned (lack of awe, shorter dialogs) are tied to that. We wanted to set the tone to be one of utmost urgency…a race against time to get your friends back before the worst can happen. That informed a lot of our decisions, and while I too appreciate a more languidly paced story and more dialog (provided it’s interesting), I can tell you we had a lot of discussions on this back and forth on the team to find what we felt confident was the “sweet spot” between too little exposition and not enough.

- An AMA about things that were on the cuttingboard and can be talked about.

To be honests, I don`t expect too much lore here, simply because ANet likes to cater to a broader audience with their product and if crucial parts were hidden behind the elite content, then it would cut off too many people, who would like to enjoy the story.

They did this throughout GW1 – remember Sorrow’s Furnace, Underworld (Dhuum!?), Fissure of Woe (Menzies!), Tomb of the Primeval Kings (lead in to Nightfall), The Deep (source of Oni and Outcasts), Domain of Anguish (source of titans, source of torment demons, oldest Margonite, Mallyx!), even Slavers’ Exile.

Why would they stop now?

Some of the most loved GW1 lore actually comes from elite areas.

Sure, but it is GW2 we are speaking now.
Things changed.

They cannot be consumed at all.

Minions
I am fuzzy on the book, but were the Chrystal Guardians mentioned?
If so, maybe she took them in to strenghten herself.
They could also be just that, minions. Nothing that would really pose a thread against an eldar dragon.

They are not. They’re not present at all. That’s the point.

And Elder Dragons can’t seem to be capable of retaking in their corruption – or if they are, then they are unwilling to even when their life is threatened and they need a power boost.

Which seems strange.

And if there was already a threat posed to Kralkatorrik, even weak minions would prove to be a 3 second distraction. A distraction Destiny’s Edge could have used to ensure Kralkatorrik’s death.

Ah, i misread the part with the killing or consumed.
Still, there could be a way to release that protection, or to revert that cleansing.
How that will play out, we will see, though.

Crystal Guardians
Yep. Could be an oversight on the writers part.

I also thought they could have been a good distraction.

They are only there, for the vision we saw. Maybe the Master of Peace destroyed the last ones on his way in?

You are right, that is pretty strange.

Exalted
I only said that the offspring or Glint herself would be able to consume them.
I said that would be a perfect way to secure a foodsupply or have an army that only you can use.

You stated yourself that Exalted can be consumed, if their masks are taken.
If they willingly remove them, they could be consumed by their master .

I never said they would be consumed directly, but by lifting the protection upon them.
A protection Glint knows about and might know how to dispell.

Forgotten
It might be the case at first.
Thats why I said Glint would change over time, when I mentioned the Revenant Herald.
She could have become bitter over time and her original goal might have twisted, or her longing for her own needs might have integrated into her plans.

Remember. The forgotten are gone right now.
We don`t know where they are.
We just don`t know any of the goals, of anyone, are in the long run.

I am not talking about Glint being evil. I am talking about the fact that her goals might be similiar to ours or that of the forgotten, but still have her own twist in them.

Even the forgotten might not have been so good for us.

Minions
I am fuzzy on the book, but were the Chrystal Guardians mentioned?
If so, maybe she took them in to strenghten herself.
They could also be just that, minions. Nothing that would really pose a thread against an eldar dragon.

Unfortunatly we dont know why she didnt use them.
I mean, she could have used them in many other ways and still die.
Till they dont appear again (if they even do, with her being dead), we dont know.
