Try to get close to them with steal, infiltrators step, shortbow, shadowstep. A lot of rangers don’t realize they have a second weaponset and LB is melee useless. Rangers who do know they have a second set and fight melee are more dangerous though (just to warn you).
And whether or not they were supposed to drop last year or not is part of establishing how available they already are. And you can only really say if something should be more or less available if you know how available they already are.
Not sure if I got that right. So you think they were plenty around last year and that was why they were only availlable through one (maybe two) games?* They were 20 gold before wintersday last year, dropped to 19 gold during wintersday, rose to 40 gold til april then to 70 when the way sigils work was changed. After that I didn’t look them up anymore. Don’t think there’s that many of them anymore.
*Why not make them availlable in no matter what gift, even if it’s with a very slim chance?
so is anyone actually against making a sigil more accessible or what?
all is see is people arguing over inane factchecking
No, the point was that someone said these sigils have been availlable each year which they only were by accident last year, so maybe they won’t be availlable ths year at all. And that was what we sorted out. And hey, we’re not anet, we aren’t against making sigils more accessible (well if I had 5 stacks of them I might have something against it).
Ah! Thanks. Well, I’m not sure if the OP of that thread knows that combo, and even if he does he sure didn’t really explain himself well… Hence that thread came off as just another cry/rage thread.
Pretty sure they don’t/didn’t know, but I can list 6 classes that hit me with 17236547156234723 conditions at once without even moving. People are just afraid of thieves. And I can’t help but wonder if the better players will naturally chose thief (and maybe ele) as their main, so maybe the problem isn’t the class.
Oh I meant the thread “Steal needs to be telegraphed”… Why would steal be nerfed because of the krait post? I feel like i’m missing something here… you need to use an elite skill to trigger the effect, the only one that wont break stealth is basilisk, but even then the effect of the ruin has 45 second CD… o.O or am i completely wrong?
English = second language – the telegraphed thread makes no sense to me ;)
The person complaining about the krait runes is in fact complaining about steal.
Edit: Basilisk venom, CnD while steal, Mug (poison) + possibly sleight of hand.
(edited by Jana.6831)
Referencing the “Steal needs to be telegraphed” ?
No, to the runes of the krait – I don’t even know what “needs to be telegraphed” means ;)
I somehow feel as if steal is going to be nerfed…
Yes: I started this game last year and wanted to have a superior sigil of generosity and was to stingy to pay for it. I have all backpiece recipes, thank you =) In fact I got everything from wintersday BUT a superior sigil of generosity.
Edit: I’m pretty sure that the old gifts were simply forgotten, that’s why they still had the stuff from 2012. Maybe it was even intended to put some fresh sigils in the 2013 gifts but that was forgotten as well. I just wish I had bought one last year ;)
(edited by Jana.6831)
Never said you were wrong. Just that you hadn’t proven your case. It just seemed odd that they would put a very very very rare drop with just one type of gift.
Which you now have unless someone can come in and say they got one outside of snowball mayhem or know someone who did. 0 in 6000 is a lot of rolls to not hit the magic one for the sigil.
I usually collect stacks because I think I will be more lucky when opening a lot at a time – and I’m fairly sure that I got my first major sigil when opening the first “few” of these “special” gifts and that was how I noticed. People who open their gifts right away won’t notice that there are 2 stacks, so it might well be that someone who got a sigil is convinced that it was a usual present. But wanze already said he opened what 50k? gifts and got no sigil. So maybe ask some people who haven’t played snowball mayhem but opened tons of usual gifts if they got a sigil.
Edit: And actually yeah – I was talking about 2013, not 2012.
(edited by Jana.6831)
You can’t say something doesn’t drop from something but not have the proof to back it up.
You say it only dropped in one area but only provided evidence for that one area. Not the other areas where you claim it never dropped.
Things don’t drop out of just one thing in this game. So you can’t use proof that it drops from Item 1 to say that it doesn’t drop in Item 2.
That’s the problem. You haven’t proven to anyone that it didn’t drop in places other than Snowball Mayhem. Just that the drop rate for it was likely abysmal.
Alright 500 games a about 4-5 or more gifts = ~2000 gifts – got 4 major sigils of generosity of them, got some glue from them, got some stuffing material from them. People in snowball mayhem were linking their superior sigils of generosity they just got.
Got 6000 gifts outside of that game – yes I had them on different stacks – got all backpiece recipes from that, got no sigils, got no stuffing material, got no glue.
Do you have evidence to back up your claim that they dropped from every gift?
(edited by Jana.6831)
They dropped during the second one as well.
I have no reason to assume they won’t drop again. They only dropped from gifts received in Snowball Mayhem.
No, it dropped from all gifts, not just those acquired in Snowball Mayhem.
No, sorry I know that I’m right, I have played that game 500 times because I wanted a superior sigil of generosity and received 4 major sigils of generosity – only from these gifts, I also got a lot of other gifts from all around tyria. Not so sure about the gift from the music thingy, might be that they were the old ones as well, haven’t played that game that much. They stacked differently as well, if I remember correctly.
Or your luck was just such that it only showed up the gifts you got from the game.
Did you get 500 gifts from not Snowball Mayhem?
How many were not from Snowball Mayhem if not 500?
I can flip a coin 100 times and have it land on heads all 100 times. Is that easy to do? No way. But still possible.
You could have easily received 50 gifts outside of Snowball Mayhem and not gotten the sigil from them even if they are supposed to. Because each time you open a gift, it doesn’t look to see what your last open of a gift was. Each RNG roll is independent of the other. You could have been rolling such that you only got the sigil from the game even though it was coded to drop in all gifts.
Just go ask the people who do Teq for the Sunless weapon skins. Or Fractals for specific skins or weapon types.
Edit to add:
Based on your numbers, if your drop was at the game’s chance the sigils drop at a 0.8% chance. That’s really really low. You would need 125 drops before you can even claim that the code was wrong. Because that’s how many drops it would take that if the rolls were true to the percentage chance, to be sure you got 1 drop. 125 times .008 is 1.
Where’s the problem here? I never said how many gifts I got and one got more than just one gift for one match of Snowball Mayhem, also depending on win or lose. I had a lot of gifts from 500 games of Snowball madness, which also contained glue and stuffing material which weren’t a thing last year anyway. And I got 3 times as many gifts from the rest of Tyria and I’m telling you: I know I’m right – I wouldn’t have played that game that many times otherwise. Although it was fun but not really 500 times.
Edit: But believe what you want. I just hope we get some fresh sigils this year. Although I probably won’t be playing that game that often – last year was kind of enough.
(edited by Jana.6831)

I would have started to craft bolt but I don’t think there are any meta builds for a sword/? Thief, if there is please mention to me.
The current “meta” is actually S/D thief – So you can craft both =)
For builds look on youtube or maybe dig/ask on the thief forum.
So you want me to have nightmares by showing me footage of 2 necros – alright. ;)
Well yeah, I’m going to a try something of it the next time I’ll face a necro. Maybe my biggest mistake is impatience.
If you were allowed to ressurect the yaks, the people killing them would just wait there for 30s and kill everybody who comes close. I think it’s fine as it is. It’s a different thing on the silverwastes where people aren’t (yet) organized.
And well, if you could just kidnap them having camps (except for the PPT) would be pointless.
There is also the Dredge commissar and Foulbear Kraal. Both break frequently and have been breaking long before the trait changes. There was no reason to add things to broken event chains without fixing them first.
The unlock for defeating the Risen High Wizard in cursed shore is also a bit buggy. The defend event is supposed to work for the unlock too but only there are enough people to scale it up so the wizard spawns.
The event to start the temple of melandru event also breaks.
Right, I know that Foulbear and Dredge are often bugged, forgot about them. Guess I’ve been very lucky (I mean it).
I just tried to unlock as many traits as possible on my latest character and that was what made things easier, I guess as I didn’t really wait for one certain event to be up but instead switched to another if the one I initially wanted wasn’t availlable right now. It wasn’t too bad but I just can’t do the complete personal story, 6 dungeons and 6 map completions again right now or forever. And a friend of mine was disgusted when he told me that the Obsidian Sanctum JP was SO hard and I answered that it has become a breeze after the 5th time.
Terrormancer is a lot more difficult than a powernecro imo. For power necro if u just cc them during their deathshroud (Basilisk + Fear steal), and just cnd off them the rest of the time, they usually go down fairly easy. Dodge the lifeburst though (Deathshroud base attack). Also if they enter deathshroud with low health, they’ll most likely heal when they get out of deathshroud, so get that interupt ready. There’s some more to it than that, but I hope that helps.
Problem is I created a necro to understand more of what they do, but I still have no idea – my necro just facetanks/steamrolls everything and I have no clue how. I’m still toast in wvw though.
Thanks for the tips, I guess it does help, but I might still have problems with their wells and marks so cnd while they’re sitting in them.
I have the urge to send you some 20 slot bags!
Anyway: Nice fights and especially nice combos which makes P/P rather dangerous.
The trait revamp wasn’t part of the NPE, which came later.
No, but the trait availability was further delayed with the NPE as far as I remember, at least grandmaster traits are, but I think the lower ones as well.
Ah okay..but getting them is still a royal pain in the kitten, whenever they unlock.
Edit: Actually I don’t think they were further delayed at all.
Maybe you’re right, I can’t really remember. I just remember that i had a look at my latest under 80 when the NPE was introduced and wondered why traits were now even harder to get. But maybe I got something wrong or it has been changed in the meantime. Since it usually takes longer to get “all” traits than getting to level 80 I never really notice anyway.

I like the new trait system. My only complaint is that some of the events needed to unlock the traits are constantly bugged, forcing you to have to purchase them if you don’t want to wait for a server reset and then make a mad dash to the map to hopefully complete the event before it bugs again.
As far as I know only one event is bugged which is: “Defeat the Branded Devourer Queen”. That event is stuck on NA and EU megaservers. I unlocked all but that trait and 2 map completions (I’m lazy) on EU megaservers, they might work on NA servers as well, but I didn’t unlock that many traits when I was still there.
I’m not too keen to do all of this with my 2 (+1 who’s still not created) other characters again though.
I like the idea of going out into the world to earn traits. What should have been done is changing the skill point challenges to teach players how to use the traits. Even excluding the ones in wvw and all the new ones in zones that came out after launch, there are more than enough to have one per trait.
That would basically be 520 different challenges, there’s 202 skill points on the map. And it would be rather boring at times as my precision is converted into vitality.
Yeah I already have been away for a few hours, didn’t you notice?
Yeah it was just about what your double armor would do to the formula – but since there’s only cryptic stuff about that anyway I can’t really calculate how much it would change – I wish I could but my if/would problem is more urgent.
Anyway: I’m a mediocre thief and have been a rather bad thief and I found that surviving with pvt was impossible after April 15th – so I traded toughness for more ferocity+critchance. And it works a lot better. I would try my pvt gear again (to see if that was a L2P issue) but I have long salvaged it. Problem I had was that my skills were always on cooldown wheras my opponents “had all their ready” (they didn’t need them for a long time as I didn’t really do damage).
Edit: Not sure if I don’t understand you or if we are talking cross purposes – I think that increasing toughness would “break” the game
Damage = Weapon strength * Power * Skill coefficient / Armor
Did you just forget it or didn’t you know?
Genuine question.
Yes power is the most effective stat, 5 gear types have that as their base. But power has to fight against healing, skill cooldown, toughness – just read what I wrote again or try it in wvw/pvp to understand that 1:1 would be a desaster. I have to leave though.
Edit: Oh my, you people on the forums.
I WvW with full Zerker and 3100 power. I don’t care about your puny healing power or Toughness, or your dodging or invulnerabilities. You’re going to die against me, and having 3500 armor is only delaying your death by 30% longer than it would have been. That’s okay, You’ll die in 13 seconds instead of 10 seconds. Fine by me!
Yeah that was the point – if you would double the toughness, would you as a zerker still be able to kill the tough guy?
(still have to leave)
Edit: sorry usual if would problem – one day I will learn it.. maybe.
(edited by Jana.6831)

The game actually does force me to wear Zerker gear if you want to be as effective as possible. Like I said its in the math, and the math says that Power is the most effective stat in the game, followed closely behind by precision and ferocity. I know you didn’t read that far, but maybe you should.
Yeah, it’s the most effective way to play but you’re still not forced to do so. And as others have stated there’s always the most effective way in any game – don’t know why this is a huge problem for a lot of you who want the game to be changed. The last time that happened meant for me that my pvt gear in wvw wasn’t viable anymore so I had to go zerkers and I will never be able to play like I used to before the crit nerf. I’m pretty mad because of that actually. BUT on the plus side I learned a lot more about skills, cooldown, hits and survival.
I did read it but answered afterwards.
And if you say it shoehorns us into taking certain builds, well guess what buddy. GW2 already corners us into taking Zerker as the one and only effective stat combination in the game. That should change, but it wont….
You can complete all PvE content in whichever gear you like, so the game itself doesn’t force you to wear zerker.
Edit: And I think when looking into whether or not healing power is underpowered one also should have a look at which rate the healing can be/is triggered.
Edit²: The same goes for toughness actually, if people would be able to double their toughness they would vastly prolonge the time someone would need to kill them, meaning that their skills would come off cooldown before their opponent has got any chance to do real damage – so basically you could go into PvP/Wvw and sit there all day while being afk.
(edited by Jana.6831)
Or we could fix everything by removing armor totally. Everyone is equal, everyone is happy.
Just need to kick people by asking their traits and weapon choices. Much easier to spot than armor stats that one can lie about. Makes your traits meaningful and reduces the completion speed gap betwen good players and terrible players (the core point of every nerf zerk thread).Anyone with me?
No, not really; traiting in the first and second line is more powerful, you know.
And I think the core of all threads like this is that those who can’t make zerker’s work feel like bad players but they don’t want to feel like bad players.
How about no?
We have two professions that can situationally counter stealth as is. My suggestion would be to modify the Necromancer’s Death Perception grandmaster trait to grant you stealth sight. A slight increase to power necro viability would be good.
Because you guys don’t have enough AOE already?
Which would be extremely unfair for new players who have it the hardest with this system anyway.
Jana, are you actually trying to accomplish something in this thread besides trolling? Because that is all you seem to be doing. You criticize BOTH sides of the issue. On one hand you say the system is a huge mistake. On another hand, you seem to support Anet, because ‘they have the numbers’, and on yet ANOTHER hand, any suggestions that would help the veterans, you complain it isn’t fair to new players.
When someone has that many hands in one thread, I have to wonder where the joker in the deck is.
Well, I’m able to think and not just demand stuff that suits me best. I support whatever is the better option in given situations, I’m not all black and white. If you call that trolling I can’t help you, I guess.
Edit: To make it clear:
1) This system is a mess – to me and most who write in this thread – it has boiled down to only a few people writing in this thread who get very angry if anything goes into any direction they don’t like, like me giving tips how to get traits, like people saying they like the system, and who act like you who calls me a troll because “I have to take either the one or other side”.
2) We aren’t the whole of the players, so we can talk all day while 75% of the player base gets 10 traits a day. Anet can see that and from that conclude whether or not the trait system is “a success”. They can then read some of the middle suggestions in this thread which had some people who actually tried to get traits and told of their experiences to see how to improve it. They can try it themselves all they like, still they are experienced players and make 1% of the player base, so it’s possible they try and deem it okay which without having a look at the numbers doesn’t mean anything.
3) (I’m just talking about what I have experienced when I was a new player, so talking about me and the ~20 people I knew back then, maybe the usual new player knows more than we did: )
New players have yet to find extern websites, they might have problems getting skillpoints in the first place because various reason and it might well be that they have no idea about traits and also no idea how to make a proper build. So they do a dungeon and die all the time and someone mentions traits of which they have maybe 5 blue ones – They naturally want to get traits sooner than later afterwards but have no skillpoints to pay for them. So by suggesting that one can buy the trait books with other characters it’s shifting not solving the problem.
(edited by Jana.6831)
What would be the most interesting build/class that I can 1v1? :)
Well, if you ask me it would be necro they are a mystery to me ;)
Power, haven’t met many condi or fear builds, maybe they’re even worse.
But any class/build would do.
One thing you could do that might make some people happy and be relatively easy to implement would be to simply allow any character of any class to talk to any trainer and buy the trait books for other classes. The trait books obviously wouldn’t work with the wrong class, but you could put the account-bound but not soulbound trait books into the bank and use them for another toon.
Basically, allow us to use our extra skill points we have on our 80s to buy traits for our alts. People with an over-abundance of skill points have obviously learned the game, and it gives people who have tons of skill points and nothing to spend it on something else to do with them.
Which would be extremely unfair for new players who have it the hardest with this system anyway.
Too bad I can’t make a poll in here (At least I don’t think), but would 1v1 videos interest anyone? or should I start including some decent 1v1s in videos? Would be great to get some feedback
Yes please, less to CnD on which can be tricky/funny at times.
So, allowing players that run an Arah P4 or Aetherblade path or Fotm level 50, that takes ~40 minutes to finish, to get the same rewards as someone farming any of the above mentioned mindless zerging places for 40 minutes is going to hurt the game?
Just think how many players will actually do that, and how many players will continue farming their usual places, the vast majority will continue farming in their easy-mode farms, only a handful will make these premades you are afraid off…
I don’t think that 40 min of farming any of the places brings even 50 silver, so those doing dungeons are better off anyway.
Someone already said thieves have got the second best downed state, I think.
You can teleport out of AOE, the blind avoids a stomp, so you have 2 mechanics to prolonge your downed state but you likely won’t be able to revive yourself on your own. Most (all?) other classes have got 1 skill to delay the stomp. Including rangers when it comes to wvw.
By “a while” you mean “four posts.” Got it. Thanks for the reminder! I now have a post-it note on my computer with your user-name, reminding me not to engage with you. You missed my point then and took it as a personal attack, which it wasn’t, and are now determined that whatever I say must be an opening for a confrontation.
Look. I’m sorry I hurt your feelings. Sincerely. Sometimes I phrase things poorly, and I get hung up on trying to make sure my message is understood without really focusing on my tone, and that often leads to me coming off as abrasive, which I probably am anyway. It’s one of the flaws with text, and, apparently, my personality.
No, you just didn’t understand one part: “The wiki page looks accurate and even if Dulfy isn’t..” So, you assumed that dulfys still is updated and I assumed that people writing in this thread know about stuff like that – so it took me quite a while to understand what your problem was.
Snookums, I have no idea what you mean by “if you start that game again.” What game, and when did I start it previously? I’ve edited my post to be more thorough if you’re interested, but the irony of your response is astounding. Seriously.
Starts page 60 of this thread and goes on for a while.
They may have numbers, but they don’t know how it feels to go through the process. There’s a difference. And I’m not convinced they actually pay attention to the metrics involving traits, personally.
They do, that was why they changed the trait system in the first place. It was discussed during the marionette event and they said they were astonished how many people paid that little attention to their traits and changing skills to different situations.
So: You say that they should learn how it feels, but do you know how it feels to all those who don’t write in this thread? Do you know whether or not they like it? The one time someone came into this thread and said he was a new player who liked a),b) and c) but not d) about the system he was met with some rather harsh words. I guess having a look into the data makes more sense than just listening to what we 5 people here have to say. AND it goes faster than making anet try their system themselves.Oh, I guess that’s why most games don’t have playtesters, because metrics are all that matter. Oh, wait……
Honey, if you start that game again, then have fun – or read what I wrote, think about it and reply in a non pasive agressive manner or: DON’T REPLY TO ME AT ALL.

snip
No offense but anet collects all data of us: They know how many new players have what traits unlocked, maybe they even know how long it took them. They know how many veterans have unlocked/or bought traits – they know of all the problems we’re discussing. It wouldn’t make any change if they were to try the system themselves because they already know. And well, we know less than them as most of us writing here are veterans, we can only assume how new players feel about it.
For those of you that actually got the point but disagree, here’s a point of consideration: Do you think that players should be able to get a legendary by doing casual, unorganized content? I see a lot of statements along the lines of “no thanks casuals won’t ever get a pre”, but isn’t that the point of legendaries?
Yeah, I do think that precursers should drop from whatever mob/activity there is; Are people really that EXCITED when they get the ascended Teq chest or did they somehow expect that it will happen to them eventually?
To your point that casuals shouldn’t get one: I’m by no means a casual but I play differently from a lot of people – I can’t do champ farms/trains too often as they bore me to death, I have a problem with dungeons (stems from my time with wow), I’m a roamer in wvw (do small scale fights, no tower capping thus no loot), I don’t do pvp, farm all mats I need for crafting myself and actually help people to get something in this game, like skillpoints or anything.
A lot of people wouldn’t be happier when I wasn’t doing all of what I’m doing now and I actually think it requires more knowledge than learning how a dungeon works and doing that nonstop until a precurser drops.
Like I said before: The problem with legendaries isn’t that the precursers can drop anywhere but that they (ready made legendaries) are tradeable. There were a lot less if that wasn’t the case.
But do I care? No.
Edit: My usual if and would problem – hope it’s solved.
Edit²: Still working on the would if problem.
(edited by Jana.6831)
Ironically, everytime someone makes a thread about good drops happening to often, 2 more people post thread complaining that they don’t happen enough. “Perception”, this must be.
Yeah the topic is misleading. The OP didn’t mean there are too many precursers but that it’s unfair that anyone could get one, no matter what they’re doing.
You might have noticed if you’d read the OP :P
I was pretty sure that you and cuddy suggested that farmers rise the amount of availlable precurser, but in his last post he said the contrahery.
Then let’s see where the precursers come from: From people doing whatever event there is in this game and from people tossing yellows/exotics into the MF. More people farming world bosses/champions increase the numbers of yellows and exotics availlable, so the number of precursers coming from the MF should rise – but the MF has been nerfed back in April. So all farming does is to inflate the market because farmers have more money.
I thought adding Keysha’s list to the prior one did cover the issue of unlocking all traits on all 5 characters (4 alts) that we had by default.
Good idea, let them also do 100% map completion on all toons, story completion and crafting a legendary, also they have to reach at least gold rank in regular wvw and have to reach top 100 in pvp on all their 5 chosen professions.
After that they’re allowed to improve the trait system they already have all data of.
Yeah, I know – that’s why I was always smirking when people complained about the NPE and that the introduction of the downed state was delayed “We aren’t stupid, we know how downed state works” (clicking 1 as usual)
Using Razer Naga Hex, so 6 buttons in a circle to the left, 2 buttons beneath the scroll wheel. Works well for me for my small/medium hands and I guess it would also work for smaller hands.
I just hope you’re not using zerker for your Tequatl runs.
Tequatl has been trivialized by numbers, the only time you really need the survivability is in phase 1. For every other phase, Berserker and Soldier are functionally the same as the primary Power stat is the only thing that matters (you don’t take damage when burning down Tequatl after the Megalaser event).
You go down a few more times with Berserker, but that’s not generally a problem with enough numbers doing damage.
No, for other phases than 1 zerker is better as the mobs can be critically hit. Just wanted to point this out (again – this week, I will also point it out next week in the next “ZERKER IS MEAN” thread) – Oh and I haven’t been downed in the last few Teq fights I did, during no phase – yes, zerker. But I actually don’t care whether or not people are using different gear.
Edit: For phase 1 zerker and soldiers are equal as their base is power, just like 3 other gear sets which have power as a base.
