As someone who plays a shatter mesmer, I’m really disappointed in the direction of the Dec 10 balance changes, which appear to be favoring already popular Phantasm and PU condition builds. This signet would further reinforce this theme.
If this is real, it makes me wonder if their “data mining” considers not only how many people are playing different types of mesmers… but also how many of those mesmers are active played (versus shelved).
I would love for them to start supporting shatter. I think some of the trait-lines need a bit of work. I have about 75% chance to crit on mind-wrack and you wouldn’t believe the amount of times it actually doesn’t crit. I picked up a shatter build in WvW and I’m loving it. Its a lot of fun, but it has too many flaws to count. :/
A worthy foe. Look at all those beautiful locked skills. Getting hit by 1,4k vapor blade surely hurts.
I usually fight upleveleds while I am naked to try balancing somewhat the fight :/
The point of this screenshot was to prove the stats of an uplvl can be modified to a high point. Also, I’m wearing a scepter.
The poster is right… you can do things like make a lvl 2 ranger with over 30khp, 2k condi dmg.
So that’s a lie.
Post a screenshot and I’ll believe it.
3400 Attack, without much optimization.
It’ll get nerfed eventually, but how hard it will get hit is the better question.
To anyone who think BG=Buy to win you forget some kind of players BG has.
Me and my friends do play in league over 10 hours/day (we normally play 2-3 hours/day)
What I do in my 10 hours play.
1. Scouting.
2. Walking Yaks (I main Ele and change to Ranger for “Sick em” to fight Thief yak hunter, yes there is no queue in my time zone.)
3. Get Bloodlust.
4. Run supply to build ACs to defend towers and Keeps.I’m doing these things and get 2 WvW Level/day in 10 hours play, but I’m happy coz there is not only me do this kind of job. I always see BG fellas walk beside me, do these housewife job for server.
I just wanted to say thank-you. I’m a roamer and when I see people defending yaks it brings a challenge, but it also shows that people are willing to do a task that doesn’t really get often noticed . Keep up the great work : )
Let us remember those who lost their stealth. RIP.
-_-
I, again, am not in it! What the heck do I have to do to get into one of these photo collages?
I can see myself in there. I made it into the collage : )
I run full zerker shatter mesmer in wvw. I think that the prismatic understanding builds are way too forgiving and easy to play : )
That 20/20/30/0/0 mesmer build is nasty though.
I’ve used it a lot before, it is an extremely good dueling and 1vX build.
Shoutouts to Sparkalicious (SOR) and Ted (Magg). Were fun duels yesterday : )
Also, my funeral:
snip
The 10 points frees up a lot of builds that would go into illusions for the cooldown. Old builds that didn’t use illusionists celerity might be making some trait point changes. This is a variation on the old build I was using – it became a lot more effective gaining clone on dodge and confusion when clones are killed. You’re going to see some interesting combinations that Mesmer will be using on December 10th. I’d argue it wasn’t really worth going 25points into illusions just for the cooldown – but now since its inexpensive to do so it’ll free up build diversity.
This is build I might be testing when the Dec 10th patch hits

What is with everyone on Badgegate running bunkers when they roam? I realize that you dudes are terrible and face tank everything, but you’re never going to get better if you play such forgiving easy mode builds. Strap on some damage and let’s have a fight that doesn’t last 10 minutes.
I run full zerker shatter mesmer in wvw. I think that the prismatic understanding builds are way too forgiving and easy to play : )
I think there are some skills that could be changed a bit.
Greatsword
- Mind stab for Greatsword only has a 120 Radius – Increasing that to 180 would give it a nice needed boost.
Sword:
- illusionary leap pathing needs to be looked at. Doesn’t go up stairs or hills
Torch:
- Phantasmal Mage – Increase projectile speed
I know what was posted was traits, these would just be some of my suggestions for skill balancing/improving.
Just add 3 different ques
All of the ranks would be based across all of your characters (account bound)
WvW Rank 200+ 1st priority
WvW Rank 50+ Receives 2nd priority
WvW Rank 50- Has no priority
Great job. I enjoyed the video : )
Right now this is a
Exactly this. It is literally ruining alot of servers PPT and score. They need to add priority que for dedicated WvWvWers like rank 50? and above for reset night.
I agree with this idea. Rank 50 and above should get priority que. Yes you could argue that is unfair to those below – but it would be like a rank system used in spvp. You would fight those that are rank 50+ so at least (hopefully) people would know what they’re doing.
People take mesmers in dungeons for ther utility skills, not for a useless heal bot with junk abilities attached to their mantras.
You say I shouldn’t ask you how to play, but then in the last line of your opening post you wrote “any thoughts” and so I’m giving you my thoughts, which are that you are using the wrong skills, traiting badly and will be a dead weight.
Please don’t be that 99% of pugs, be the 1% of people who build their class properly and play properly.
The time it takes to charge mantras and for healing to go off – There’s other classes that can provide better support then a Mesmer can. With the next update they’re going to possibly change mantras anyway.
“We looked at Mantras, and just didn’t feel they were quite strong enough to do this, so we made some improvements.”
Off topic – I do enjoy reading your posts.
I’m hoping someone can validate the findings I posted in this thread:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/mesmer/Phantasmal-Mage-again/first#post2967729TL;DR
- Clones casting WoC do not inherit the mesmer’s condition duration (tested bleeding). On the other hand, duelist and clone sharper images procs/projectile finishers through ethereal fields do inherit it.
- Mesmer confusion duration bonuses (Illusions V; perplexity runes) do not apply to iMage, but condition duration does. This may have always been this way, even after the condition duration fix, but I’m not sure.
I thought at least condition duration for all illusions was fixed a few patches ago but it appears to be broke, at least for staff clones. I tested both in PvE open world and HOTM. Has anyone else experienced this?
I’ve tested the clones casing WoC with 40% extra condition duration. 10% from lyssa and 30% from the trait line. The tool tip for winds of chaos says the bleed should last around 9 seconds. However, when hovering above the enemy it only said and lasted for 7 seconds. So yes, you’re right that the clones do not inherit the Mesmer’s condition duration properly.
If possible you should try to start a thread up in the bugs forum. They usually acknowledge and fix things faster there : )
Brother, they do NOT want gvgs. End of story. I think you need to come to this realization. They put all their eggs into the pvp basket and adjustments to facilitate gvgs are tantamount to admitting pvp is a lame duck (which it is).
Some good suggestions, but you’re wasting your time is all.
I mainly do roaming in WvW. I was just offering an idea I thought of to maybe help the GvG scene
A Solution to GvG
Hello. I’ve thought up of some simple ideas that could be implemented very easily that I believe would be an effective temporary solution for the GvG community.
There would have to be the creation of a new borderlands map. This map would be a relatively large flat piece of land where the guilds could meet up and carry out their battles. The immediate downside to this is that other players could join the map and do as they please but hopefully the community would be respectful towards the guilds.
In the future of GvG, there would be a dedicated instance map that uses PvE stats. The guild leaders could choose 20 from their roster and add it to a queue. They could then challenge another guild and if that guild accepts at the time they would be ported to a new map. This map would be a simple rounded coliseum with a flat arena base. There would be a mode that would alert players who would wish to watch the GvG, they could sit in the coliseums stands and observe from a safe distance. This could also be incorporated to the game because players could then watch their favorite guilds duke it out in the arena. Basically, I think this is a solution that would allow the game to grow and to help out its community base.
Tl;dr
Create a new boardelands – flat map where guilds can duel
Future – create a roman coliseum where guilds can fight and there could be spectators.
Anyway, I thought that this was a great idea and I wanted to share it with the community. Thanks for your time!
You could try something like this
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fgAQRAsc7flwzqpXUTmGb9IipHEXvBckUUavWJF82FC-j0BBYfDim+I0UBBK5pIaslhFRjVXDT5iIqGA-w
It would give you some condition removal, tankiness while still maintaining some of your burst potential. I chose rune of the traveler to provide you with more boon duration on your prismatic, and for the condition duration to affect some of your other abilities. Rune of the traveler should give you movespeed as well and you won’t have to worry about that. I chose to trait you for master of manipulation to allow you to escape easier and for your arcane thievery cooldown.
Added Volume 3.5. Cheers!

Edit – I’m getting a new monitor soon so it should fix the clipping!
Greatsword
Mindstab would be great if it could be used as a blast finisher to add to its overall potential and supportive abilities.
Scepter
The auto attack doesn’t fit with the theme of the weapon – it applies a power modifier. It should apply some conditions such as bleeding if possible.
Torch
Phantasmal Mage, projectile speed should be increased – which will allow it to hit moving targets more effectively.
Sword
iLeap – pathing needs to be fixed or reworked, unreliable especially on uneven terrain
Pistol
Magic bullet – I think this also needs a slight increase in projectile speed
Just some small changes that I would like to see possible
Not sure if this was mentioned before but I think for the Mesmer anyway, the scepter and greatsword need some QOL improvements.
Mesmer
Greatsword for mesmer. The #3 Mindstab would be great if it could be used as a blast finisher to add to its overall potential and supportive abilities.
Scepter
The auto attack doesn’t fit with the theme of the weapon – it applies a power modifier. It should apply some conditions such as bleeding if possible.
Torch
Phantasmal Mage, projectile speed should be increased – which will allow it to hit moving targets more effectively.
These are some of the changes for Mesmer anyway which would be great if they could be addressed
Thanks for all the support
Nice job! Haven’t tried perplexity runes yet but I love using a build like this. I find you have to play a bit more aggressively because of the clone generation but either way I think its a solid set up
I would more than likely take blink if you can work it into your build. It will greatly help you when you have to stomp classes like theives and to port away from fights. The only other issue I see is that you won’t be gaining endurance regeneration on crit.
Prismatic Understanding will give you amazing boons and survivability and will synchronize with all your invisible skills. Also the minor trait “Chaotic Transference” will greatly increase your condition damage. You could try a build like the one I posted below and see if that works out for you
Malicious Sorcery should be used if you find that your skills aren’t fast enough when you swap to scepter.

Nice and simple guides : )
O Hai Jedge/Null <3.
Nice Vids and good gameplay!
Thanks Obi, appreciate the support!
Glad you enjoyed it : )
New stat combinations seem interesting. Time to fire up the grill
@Null I do my best, thanks buddy
@ Gumm
Yeah, I love the build. I tried Illusionary Elasticity but I found that it knocked me out of stealth quite a bit – still an amazing option to use though. Thanks, I will
Added volume 2!

Updated the build. Still working on rotations and adding extra bits of information
Also, I apologize for the cropping. I don’t have a good enough PC to run a higher resolution

@Xavi Thanks! Build is updated as a guide on Into the Mists. Need to add rotations when I can, its bugged currently.
@Drix Thank-you! Haha yeah, its taxing to record videos. I got lucky with some of my parts and was able to upgrade my computer to the point where I could actually record : )
dxtory to record then using sony vegas to edit : )
@Inoence
Thank-you!
Unfortunately I play on a 1680×1050 monitor and the video is recorded in 720p
I’m guessing that is what is causing the cropping
@Pyro
Yeah, I need to work on my skills a bit. Was really nervous hitting the record button when dueling. Hopefully I’ll get better at that as time goes on. Thx for the tips : )
Hey guys! Thank-you for all the continued support and comments. Hopefully you enjoy the videos and I’ve been able to keep you entertained
I prefer to roam as a condition Mesmer – which a modified version of Flimp’s old build. I enjoy juking/kiting my opponents and having the ability to escape almost any situation. Occasionally, I like to run a phantasm spec just to spice things up a bit. Anyway, let me know what you think below!

Hello : )
I’ve browsed around and have watched various youtube videos but I would love a second opinion if possible. I was wondering what would be the best settings to render a video for GW2 using Adobe After Effects with a small file size compression.
I do have various codecs such as Lagrith Lossless Codec.. Any help at all is greatly appreciated
Thanks for your time : )
The problem with iMage is its inconsistent damage.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Phantasmal_Mage
The wind up on iMage is ridiculously long – “Skill use every 6 seconds” and even then the chance that it will actually hit a moving target is pretty low.
Suggestions:
-Increase projectile speed OR change it to something like the downed-state clone where it automatically applies effects
-Increase confusion duration to 5seconds / Reduce cast-time to 5seconds
-Reduce recharge to 25seconds
Even with approximately 66% confusion duration (33% trait – 30%duration) 3 stacks of confusion will barely last 4seconds.
Either way, iMage needs a huge quality of life change. It’s been far too long that it has been overlooked and its pretty bad as a #5 phantasm.
Weapon Skills:
Staff:
Winds of Chaos (Skill 1)
- Increase projectile speed by 20%
- Increase vulnerability duration to 6s.
- Fix bounce so it bounces the full range, as it currently only bounces if the first hit and bounce are within 1200. Refer to ele staff air skill 1 for correct bounce behaviour. One of staff’s major weaknesses in pve is how slow the projectile is, combined with the bounce, makes it a lot harder to tag mobs compared to GS, which is near instant hit. The bounce behavior reduces the viability in ranged situations. The vulnerability change isn’t much of a buff, just makes it slightly harder to cleanse the meaningful conditions like bleeding/burning. These changes may make the staff more viable in PvE without making the weapon OP in pvp.
Scepter
Ether Bolt chain (Skill 1)
- Reduce cast/chargeup time of third part of chain to be the same as other parts of the chain. (.5s each)
- Increase projectile speed by 20%
- The third skill now applies a condition on hit – I recommend either 1 stack of confusion or torment for 4 seconds. This also affects clones created while scepter is mainhand weapon.Currently this chain is simply weak. For a condition weapon it applies no condition on the third hit. The clones are meaningless other than shattering – something a condition build requires less of and worse, they overwrite useful clones. The chain is too slow and the projectile takes too long to hit at 900 range. The first two changes makes the weapon flow better. The third, while not increasing DPS greatly (in power builds the cond won’t do much, in cond builds the DPS would be low already from a lack of power), adds a small condition to make it harder to cleanse the main conditions, also means the scepter clones are far less weak and brings them closer to staff clones in terms of viability.
Confusing Images (Skill 3)
- Fix this so as a channel it constantly hits, as it seems to stop hitting when people move in particualr ways such as when your opponent is behind you.
- Reduce the precase by 0.2 – 0.4s.Increasing the relibility of the skill to bring it in line with mainhand sword or other mesmer weapons.
While this may seem like a huge buff to the scepter, it is only to bring it in line with other weapons. Scepter is commonly ignored as a weapon (how often do you see this used seriously in PVP or in PVE where a sword couldn’t do a better job) due to the weak skill 1 attack chain and how long the build up is on skill 3. While the second and third skills are useful in condition builds, the clones offer nothing of value (clone death traits can help, though the creation from the auto attack chain is so slow staff clones are still more viable).
WOC auto attack should be replaced with something other than vulnerability. It is a weapon that is a supportive/defensive option. Adding vulnerability does not flow with the design of it. All of the conditions being applied are either bleeding, burning, poison etc – but keeping vulnerability is not a good option.
WOC – Instead of vulnerability it should apply confusion for 2 -3 secs.
This would mean it would increase the damage of the staff but at the same it would allow for a deterrent for enemy players. When you get vulnerability with staff the only extra damage being caused is warlock or shattering. Conditions aren’t being affected by vulnerability. Confusion also has been nerfed in the past so it would be nice to have it through more applicable sources. With 3 staff clones up confusion wouldn’t be able to stack to the extreme if they limited it to 2 seconds as well.
Scepter – The scepter seems to be used as a condition weapon arguably. With the recent addition of torment it has made the scepter more viable in terms of competitive play. However, the auto-attack chain as you said, does deserve a rework
Ether bolt 1st – Apply bleed
Ether blast 2nd Apply confusion/bleed
Ether Clone- Apply poison and summon the clone.
A reliable poison would be extremely helpful to a condition Mesmer – given that it doesn’t last an extremely long time. The purpose of it would be to apply ranged pressure. The projectile speed idea should also be considered and consistent with all the attacks. Ether clone (3rd in the chain) shouldn’t have a wind up time. It offers too much time wasted because you’re waiting for the end result and are unable to take action because it leaves you stranded waiting for it to go off.
It would be nice to see if we could any confirmation as to the current state of some of the Mesmer weapons and abilities such as iMage.
I just received this issue error code: 42:0:9001:4166
Says soothing about my firewall, but earlier it stated that my account was a free trial. :/
I posted some changes in the mesmer forum that I think would be ideal solutions rather than the direct 50% nerf
If they really wanted to fix confusion all they needed was to do this
– Don’t make it apply dodge roll effects
– Make a system where the first stack of confusion initially does at 5 stacks 1700dmg, but once you’ve exhausted that stack, it moves down to 4..3..2..1 and deals less dmg till it no longer exists.
– Tone it down approximately 25%
– If you’re going to nerf confusion fix scepter or staffs auto attack. iMage anyone?
Confusion does not deserve the nerf it will be receiving. Players who complain about confusion essentially do not have condition removal, are used to spamming, or don’t know how to handle it. It actually made players “think” for once and say “hey, i have 6-9 stacks of confusion, maybe i shouldn’t’ attack – o well lets spam heart-seeker more.” Condition mesmer won’t exist after the patch.
Confusion was also a good balance check for a number of classes:
Elementalist’s – (D/D)You could stack confusion on them, and this allowed them to not just spam their combos without taking damage. If I stacked confusion on an ele, they had to play cautiously with their combos or switch to water form to cleanse
Theifs – With confusion on them they could not spam heartseeker or 111111 to deal a large amount of damage. Thieves can still use shadow step to remove conditions – re-stealth and start the fight over again.
Rangers – Arguably short-bow spammers couldn’t just auto attack and do dmg. They had to stop attacking and think about their next course of action.
Solution. Glamour I believe should have been nerfed or traited to actually fix the cause. The reason people are complaining about confusion are builds that utilize glamour bombs that have the ability to stack a large amount of confusion in certain environments at a large distance and glamour skills don’t just apply confusion – they apply other effects as well.
As Godmoney stated – a 50% decrease is too extreme. The developers should have made an initial decrease of around 25% and then changed it a a later update. What you’re going to be seeing now is no more confusion mesmers and more of the generic shatter builds until that eventually gets hit with the bat.
If they really wanted to fix confusion all they needed was to do this

– Make a system where the first stack of confusion initially does at 5 stacks 1700dmg, but once you’ve exhausted that stack, it moves down to 4..3..2..1 and deals less dmg till it no longer exists.

– If you’re going to nerf confusion fix scepter or staffs auto attack. iMage anyone?
I’m going to wait and see what the patch has to bring, but I’m sure they’ll keep the 50%. I’m going to say that confusion will be fixed or “buffed” in several patches down the road, but that’s just wishful thinking
The prestige (mesmer skill) also seems to have been indirectly hit with the stealth reveal timer. When you get out of the prestige, the finisher counts as an attack. Not sure if this was intended to stop players from chaining stealth. When you’re trying to run away and you hit a mob and can’t re-stealth for 4 seconds. I can understand if you use a skill within the prestige and then it takes you out, but the finisher shouldn’t.
I’m not sure if any other classes are affected by this but it is rather annoying. It is a good idea in theory but I think they should take a look at what it actually affected. I haven’t tested the thief combos yet, but I will do so later.

Not sure if this was intended to stop players from chaining stealth. Either way it is an annoyance when you’re trying to run away and you hit a mob and can’t re-stealth for 4 seconds. It’d be interesting to hear some opinions on this or a developer response. Thanks!
Didn’t get a chance to watch the stream while it was live. Watching the recordings as we speak. Great job! Its really nice to see the unedited action. Keep up the great work : )
What are your thoughts on the new torch update? I’ve been wanting to see what combo’s you’d come up with in your next videos. To me it feels like a huge improvement over what you could previously do, and just wait for the channel to go off. Thanks : )
I think the prestige does need a bigger AOE (end) radius, 240 seems like a small amount when everyone is dodging around and you’re trying to jump on a target. Essentially, for the burn to go off you have to stay really close to your target. I like the new “non channeling” change, but I would like a bigger radius for the end finisher if possible : )
