As mentioned above, I believe I found the issue—Brogun could die to a condition (bleeding, poison) in between events, which prevented him from kicking off the next event. He was immune to direct attack, but not conditions, and it’s fairly rare—you have to kite a mob with bleeding attacks onto him—so we had a heck of a time trying to reproduce the issue. I’ve fixed that, but I don’t have an ETA for when it will be applied to Live, sorry!
Check your computer’s clock to make sure it’s set to the correct date/time/time zone. There’s a bug where the list of achievements will use your computer’s clock to determine which ones to display, even though the actual time is used by the server to track achievement progress. So the achievements you can’t advance might be ones from yesterday, or tomorrow.
I’ll take a look at that step tomorrow. NPCs are capable of rezzing players, and we try to set any named NPC so they’ll rezz if they’re out of combat, but we have to set it on a story-by-story basis, so it’s quite possible that we missed that step.

So the guy tasked with tracing and fixing the bug doesn’t have a way to inspect the state of the bugged servers? Er… that doesn’t sound very efficient. Do they at least let you use metal cutlery, or are you stuck with a spork?
On the test server I have access to a lot more debug info—it’s not available on the Live servers because it slows things down too much, or it’s disabled to keep people from trying to cheat/hack to get it. (For example, I can’t insta-kill creatures on Live, but I can on Test.) So I will try to get repro steps so I can look at it on a test server, because I can only get limited information on Live.
How many messages does the account have? Even if the mailbox shows as not full (X/10 messages) some mail will prevent it from receiving new messages, so try clearing out the inbox and waiting a few minutes to see if the messages arrive. (The mail count is bugged, and we’re working on it.)
Thanks, we’re looking into the turret bug now but I don’t have an ETA for a fix. In the meantime, there are also some mortars you can use in the fight in place of the tank turret. The undead will retreat once you kill the risen giants leading them.
I was intentionally hanging back a bit, I didn’t mean to imply that the only way to win is to stay at a distance. I also play the story steps as a d/p thief who melees everything, but I tried engineer since it’s considered one of the weaker/lighter classes. The simple truth is that we can’t take every single class/build/play style into account when we build the story steps, so they do require some flexibility. They’re also intended to be challenging, so charging directly into fights (especially when you have a handful of NPCs with you) is generally not the best route. It’s a tricky balancing act, since we can’t make the NPCs powerful enough to complete the story step with no player intervention, but in general they should act as enough of a speed bump for you to deal with the enemy. We don’t always get it right, though, which is why I’m always asking for specific information on troublesome story steps so I can give them a try and see if they should be adjusted.
The first thing to check is your mailbox to make sure you have room, there’s a limit on how many letters your mailbox can hold, and past that it will simply queue up new mail. Try to delete as much mail as you can, then give the mail system a few minutes to deliver the backpack.
(Side note: there’s a bug with the mailbox not counting some letters, so it might show that it’s at 6/10 even though it has 10+ mails in it, keeping it from receiving new messages.)
Sorry, I think I posted right before or right after the Daily change. Veteran Slayer is currently one of the achievements, but it wasn’t earlier, hence my suggestion about checking the computer clock.
Veteran Slayer is not one of today’s dailies. Please check your computer’s time to make sure the date/time/time zone are all correct. There’s a display bug where it will use your computer time to display the dailies, even if the “correct” time is being used by the server to track them.
as my original post says, the summoning mobs seem to summon to many and/or are so close together that they all pull at once, ending in me getting slaughtered. i had one dredge suit that had 7 dredge summoned in that mission (dredge assult, in the norn personal story) i can normaly dodge 1 or 2 of them but the rest just knock me down. and garrentee that i get no hits in before im downed.
Thanks, that’s extremely useful info. The dredge suits can summon up to 5 minions, but you also have a half-dozen Vigil soldiers with you. If you’re running in and aggroing all 5 minions and the suit, you probably need to slow down. I just completed this without getting hit at all during the suit attack by letting the Vigil wade in, then I picked off the suits at a distance. (I tried it with an engineer.) Most of the NPCs did get killed during the fight, but they can rezz each other, so the entire group was back up for the cave exploration step.
Which step are you on? Waiting for a “major overhaul” isn’t going to happen without more information. As I’ve mentioned before, I play all of the story steps with an equal level character (not downscaled) and haven’t run into any consistent issues, but if there are specific steps that are too difficult, I can look at adjusting them.
Slayer, Aquatic Slayer and Veteran Slayer are not part of today’s dailies. (2/12). Please check your time zone, and double-check the date/time. (Including the year, as odd it sounds.)
I’m not sure what I understand the issue. It says in the description ‘Town clothes cannot be worn in combat’ so it’s pretty clear that it’s not going to affect your normal attack skills.
Without knowing your class/traits/level there’s not much I can say, other than the generic tips:
- Make sure your gear is up to spec
- Durability is usually much more effective than sheer damage in story steps—bosses are almost always veteran level
- You will get levelled down to the story step level if you want to outlevel the step and try again, but new skills/traits/etc. that you’ve gained access to will help
No, it doesn’t give you more trait points, it just increaseses how many you can put into each tree. 50 pts at L60 is correct. (You start gaining them at L11.)
Check your time zone, then. It sounds like your clock is about 3 hours off. If it’s set to the wrong time zone, it will LOOK correct but cause weird things like the daily and forum display bugs.
Does he have room in his mailbox to receive new mail? There’s a cap on the number of letters you can hold in your inbox at one time, ask him to clear out his mailbox and they should appear within a few minutes.
Was the step “An Apple a Day”? It’s the step before Chapter 5. Since you edited your post, I can’t look up the VO line you remember, but there are no story steps that I can find that involve multiple champions, and a “Minsterial Guard” wouldn’t even have a colored nameplate. (Generally, NPCs with a proper name will have a gold name border, but generic NPCs do not.)
Do you “Fast cast ground targeting” turned on in Options? If so, it’s trying to fire the cannon at your mouse cursor. Turning it off will give you a target marker when you fire the cannon, so you can manually place it.
This should be fixed in the next content update. I found a fairly obscure bug where Brogun would stall if he died to a condition immediately after the escort event ended.
When you apply the sigil it pops up a warning that the item will become soulbound to you. It sounds like there’s a bug with “soulbound” not displaying afterwards.
TL;DR is that this only appears to affect YOU. Other players cannot see your email address, even though you can. It’s certainly a bug, which we’re looking into.
