i wanna see a mess instant shattering tho >>
or a war instant bursting,
or ele instant attunement swapping
last i checked those all have build up time or need to be close in the case of ele its their wep swap

Mesmer’s shatters are instant once clones get to target, every play a mesmer?
Warrior’s f1’s are instant besides rifle, ever play a warrior?
Ele’s attunement swaps are instant, ever play an ele?

I think he means…

Mesmer build up = creating the clones/illusions/phantasms
Warrior = gaining the adrenaline
Ele’s = do not have a weapon swap, also switching attunements gives a cool-down on the other attunements briefly.

Dailies are a punishment to some

Jemmi.6058

This game is suppose to be play how you want and I love that BUT i do not like the dailies because I don’t want to “slay 40 monsters at X” or “kill 10 enemes in WvW”. Granted, I am not forced to do them but I am certainly punish if I don’t and I think that’s quite unfair in a “play how you want” game.

How exactly am I punished? Economically. Everyone who completes the dailies gets some silvers + mystic coin + a Jar of karma accompanied by some experience.

I have no problem with the fact that players are being rewarded for playing in a certain way but I do have a problem when that reward directly punish people who don’t. What this means is that gold will be inflated(thanks to money and coin reward + karma conversion to gold) and thus, the people who completes dailies will NEGATIVELY impact others who don’t.

Experience and achievement points are okay because it directly reward the intended player but does not negatively impact others, unlike the monetary reward.

Thoughts?

I am being punished for having wasted time reading this. Time is money and thus the time it took for me to read your post and reply has wasted me valuable $$.

I believe you owe me, I accept email money transfers.

Sarcasm aside. Disagree completely.

1. You can choose which dailies you do, and they are often very very easy
2. You are rewarded for completing a task, that is how this and many many other games work (especially RPGs)
3. May I ask what you like to spend your time doing?

4. Am I punished because I do not Arah armor, because I have not run the Arah dungeon?

I don’t know about assisted jumps, but how about a “lend a hand up” feature.

One character is on a ledge just above another character. They can reach each other. Their models can collide at some point.

The higher character can pull the other character up.

This would be especially funny to see an Asura helping up a Norn.

Love this idea too

Try jumping and dodging at the same time

I know about this :\ Thanks for the tip though.

My idea is to add a cross combo with other players.

I envision something like: you go to a castle for a dungeon (or JP or whatever), but there is a giant moat and the only way to cross it is to use the combo jump. The person who gets tossed over lowers the draw bridge for the team to come across.

Never done WvW so I do not really understand if/how it would benefit. I wouldn’t mind the added benefit for jumping puzzles haha

I mostly thought it’d be a fun new mechanic. It would be awesome to see it implemented with the addition of new content. i.e. hidden areas that can only be found with the longer jump etc.

I completed all 3 achievements for the living story that are available. I received nothing for it. I don’t really want a chest with a yellow or black lion key (well I wouldn’t complain), but I’d like some extra tidbit of lore about the story. Something that gives me more background for completing it.

Anyway, not a big thing, just a bit of a letdown to get it all done and then nothing.

Yes… but this is one of the few games that reminds me constantly how everything is scripted. I am simply asking for a story based reason behind the scripts for some things.

Jemmi.6058

First off, I love this game and play it a lot!

However, I have a major concern, which is currently breaking my emersion. Everything in this game reminds me that it is, in fact, a computer game. Everything is majorly scripted.

This includes but is not limited to:
1. Timers on dragons
2. Spawn locations
3. Expected loot
4. Receiving dungeon tokens
5. Creating legendaries
6. Dailies/Monthlies
7. Ascended items (laurels, guild commendations, fractal relics etc)

If there is going to be something scripted, I’d at least like a fantasy-based logical reason.

For example, for issue item 4, instead of receiving tokens and purchasing your exotic gear, you could receive an item only found in that dungeon necessary for that armor. i.e. get a ghostly essence from each boss in AC which is taken to a blacksmith who can turn the ghostly essence into a weapon. This really wouldn’t change much except in how it’s presented. I’d like to be asked to get the ghostly essence before entering the dungeon, so I know my goal.

For example, for issue item 1, have dragons spawn randomly, not on timers.

For example, for issue item 3, do not guarantee a rare every world boss, but don’t make them so rare that the bosses aren’t worth doing. Do not make it so rare to get an exotic, as I’d much rather gear up from world bosses than dungeon tokens or the TP.

my two cents.

Here is a cross combo idea: Assisted Jump.

The idea is that, with the help of two people, you can be launched for a higher or farther jump.

It would work like this:

Jumper would jump at two friends
At the right moment mid-air, the jumper would press Jump (space) and his/her friends would would press action (F)

The result would be whatever works out for balancing reasons, but I am envisioning 2x height/distance.

The Living Story - far too vague.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Jemmi.6058

The key to understanding the understanding issue is in their recent blog on the Living Story. What they have given us so far are ‘teasers’, not actual content. There is also a reference to developers rolling off other projects now available to expand upon the story. The monthly events had to happen as they are a key value proposition for Anet. So, absent the ability to provide actual content, they occurred as ‘teasers’. I would expect the content to be fleshed out more properly over time and this should make the story more understandable. TLDR: You haven’t been able to get it because there has been nothing to get.

Correct.

So a vague and convoluted answer is the correct way to think about a vague and convoluted piece of content?

Basically the devs were busy so they only had enough time to make 2 weeks of content and stretched it out into two months. Now that they’re done fixing minion AI and solving world hunger (pfffffft) we’ll return to our regularly scheduled hitting things til they die.

What we’ve released so far is teaser content. Our next release, Flame & Frost: The Razing, is where the story and characters ramp up.

Hello Bobby,

I appreciate you responding to this thread, and have great respect for you holding your cool after all the previous posts.

I have some constructive feedback going forward.

when I logged in after taking a break from the game, I got a piece of mail saying go to Black Citadel. So I took the portal from LA to Black Citadel.. I then talked to a guy and he said that everyone went to Lion’s Arch. I thought I had missed the event, so I went back to LA and talked to someone who gave me very little info about what was going on. My end conclusion was that the event was over and I missed it, because this is just sending me in circles.

I suggest that:

1. have more in-game and less in-mail notices regarding the event.

2. Have NPCs come up to me rather than me up to them.

3. Make it clear where I am supposed to go (between LA and Black Citadel apparently).

4. When updates occur, make sure it is known. I read on the forums that 2 more refugee possessions are available to collect, but have yet to see anything in-game telling me this.

Why there's no LFG 7m after launch

Jemmi.6058

Really? You think adding another channel will help? No. Lets remember how Trade chat was in WoW shall we? Oh yeah, trolls and people just chatting.

And interrupting your gameplay? This boggles me. Its not that its interrupting your gameplay, you’re just letting a machine play a part for you. Socializing is part of an MMO. Get out there, talk, meet people, add them as friends. Betteryet, when you get into a good group for a dungeon and liked the people, ADD THEM TO YOUR FRIENDS LIST. Then boom! You have a list of people who like to run dungeons.

Anet said how they want a strong community for gw2, and ther are mini communities which are the servers. The lfg tool destroyed many server commnities in wow, i know, mine was one.

1. Adding another channel would indeed help. How can you not see this? For your example of WoW – trade was bogged down with spam. However, the LFG channel was great and useful (I used it fairly often). I ignored the Trade channel as I ignore the map channel now. Your argument only helps my point?

2. I am unsure where your confusion comes from. My gameplay is interrupted because I stop running dynamic events, doing vistas, achieving skill points, completing renown quests (etc), so that I can go sit in L.A. and repeat LFG over and over. Do you see where the interruption in gameplay comes from now?

3. Socializing and meeting people. Yes, when I am out in the world, I help people as I see them. I chat to them and say hi, res them and run events together. Sitting solo in L.A. spamming map chat is not socializing. It’s spamming. I do however have a pretty decent guild that I run events /dungeons with now, so I am happy with that. Using map chat in L.A. is definitely not the answer though.

4. I disagree that community was destroyed with the LFG tool in WoW, but I suppose our experiences differ. If you want to be social in a group from LFG, say hi when you enter the dungeon – I always did.

I would prefer they add a LFG channel. Map chat is so spammed, I hide it 99% of the time.

By spammed I mean there are way too many people asking to run different dungeons, and there are even more people saying useless things they think are funny.

With a LFG channel, I could pop in/out of it whenever I wanted to find a group.

I still think a tool would be best though. I do not want to interrupt my game-play to sit in LA for 20 minutes so I can give up in finding a group for a dungeon story mode.

*If you like pro-pvp like moba… this game isn’t for you
*If you like real open world pvp… this game isn’t for you
*Most importantly if you like to have a goal… this game isn’t for you

‘this game isn’t for you’ is a common reply to many posts and it is sadly and actually a true reply for the most posts. I really believe that devs prepared this game for a really specific(even unique) type of a player base.

This post is inaccurate. Liking those things != Only liking those things.

I like having a healing role in Trinity… I also like this game.
I like having mounts … I also like this game.
I like gear progression… I also like this game.

Pointless thread is pointless.

On another note: I am sure the Devs would like to please everyone or as much people as they can. If a large # of people want something, then let them ask for it. Unless the addition of what they want is a hinderance to your enjoyment of the game. If that is the case, say so and why – do not say this game isn’t for you. “This game isn’t for you” is the weakest and laziest argument ever.

Thank you.

Traits start at level 10. You can see them on your hero menu and selecting skills/traits and then the traits tab.

Before selecting your traits, you have to buy a manual from a class specific trainer (they are often in hometowns, so check for an NPC with a book above it’s head in The Grove). They also appear on your mini map I believe.

You will need a manual at level 10, 40 and 60 to unlock the 1st, 2nd and 3rd phases. Each phase allows 10 points in that line, so you can have a maximum of 30 points in a line. Every 5 points allows for a mini trait and every 10 points allow for a major trait. I understand this can be confusing and my explanation may be lacking. I refer you to here: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Trait

You can also wiki anything straight from the game, for example in chat type /wiki Trait

The argument that it took a competitor a long time to get something is not a valid argument. Why does it keep coming up?

In order to remain competitive, you need to offer services/features which your consumers want. In this case, a LFG is wanted. Competitors have realized this and implemented them. In order to remain competitive in the current market, the supplier needs to offer these features in addition to exclusive features, or it will lose customers to the competition.

Simple economic theory.

Your weapon spells remain the same, but are actually quite powerful with Staff.

My main is a lvl 80 ele and use staff exclusively. I also play exclusively PvE.

Do you know about combo fields and how to use them? They will definitely enhance your play. Check out this page, http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Combo

To get you started though, go to Earth and use the #2 skill eruption. Then switch to Fire and use the #2 skill lava font and place it over the eruption skill. When eruption goes off Area Might will be cast giving you and all allies around +3 might.

Others include:

Eruption + Static Field (Air #5) = Area Swiftness
Eruption + Geyser (Water #3) = Area healing
Eruption + Healing Rain (water #5) = Area regeneration

Also , as you level up you get Traits (this starts at level 10) and they can enhance your play. I suggest using the Arcane route and getting the trait which doubles the size of your AoE skills. Arcane traits will also decrease the cooldown of swapping elements which is something you should be doing a lot.

Another note: Eruption does quite a bit of AoE damage and applies bleeding to enemies. I use it a lot in PvE, and you just have to place it well because it takes a few seconds to go off. You can either time it well or use crowd control spells to help. (Examples of crowd control for Ele are Static Field (Air #5, stuns anything that passes through it), Unsteady Ground (Earth #4, cripples anything that walks over it), Frozen Ground (Water #4, chills anything that passes over it).

There is definitely permanence when taking/keeping outposts.

Go to Sparkfly Fen and in the middle there is an outpost and 3 outer outposts. I was there yesterday and it’s the first time I leveled a character and saw the outer outposts were not under Hylek control. I had to fight off the undead and the Hylek came back. Previously, with other chars, the Hylek were in control and I had to fight off undead attacks.

Presumably, the undeads continue to attack it over and over, and you have to keep defending it. You stop and the Hylek die. You can then come back and retake it, if you please.

The result of not defending it is it permanently being taken control of by the Risen.

This post feels more like a rant than a suggestion.

What I did pick out was:
- Increase number of primary skills available for increased variety

As for your note about getting stronger and endgame; I definitely feel stronger when I hav leveled up. Even going back to story quests one or two levels up is easier than trying them at the recommended level. So getting stronger as you level is happening. As for the enemies getting harder? That depends on location, not level.

At level 80, you can still go to lower level areas, lower level dungeons etc. Increasing your level increases the content you can play, it does not really increase the difficulty.

My first character was a Thief and I found leveling it quite fun and easy. Open world they are awesome. I very rarely had to kite things and could take on groups of enemies pretty easily. Death blossom works well if you can get all of them together, as you just dance above their heads a few times and then they all die.

For dungeons, Thieves kind of suck imo. I got bored pretty fast and leveled an ele for dungeons.

I’ve never played a Necro, but I would assume Necro > dungeons and Thief > open world (imo).

Why there's no LFG 7m after launch

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Jemmi.6058

Jemmi.6058

The argument that WoW did not have it for years after launch is not a very strong one. If the world worked that way, we would have very little progress.

An analogy: imagine if cell phones worked that way. Well iPhone took 6 years to get LTE. That means that any newcomer should wait that long before LTE, right? Wrong. They need to have LTE at launch in order to remain competitive. If not at launch, they need it shortly thereafter. If they wait 6 years, then they are 6 years too late. PS: LTE, for those that are unaware, is 4G data speeds up to theoretical 100 Mbps.

My point is, to remain competitive in the market, Guild Wars 2 should have the base features present in other MMO’s. This includes, but is not limited to, a LFG tool.

I am not sure if this is feasible or not, but here goes.

Make every armor wearable by every profession. HOWEVER, make downsides and upsides to wearing each type.

For example (but not limited to), wearing:

light armor means you cast and recharge spells faster than heavy (medium in the middle).

Heavy armor could mean less damage taken and more resistant to takedown effects.

Medium armor could allow for increased vigor

This would still encourage necros/mesmers/ele’s to wear light and warriors/guardians to wear heavy etc, but could allow for more variety in builds and appearance.

I wish I could actually see the ferocious face of the beast I am fighting, but in order to see that I have to move so far away I can’t hit it.

Alternatively, there are many bosses who are humanoid in size, or maybe a little bit bigger.

That’s actually really covered up by mmo standards. Heck it even is by real life standards, I’ve seen girls with less clothes than that.
Now if that’s what you are actually complaining about that we need less clothes then I agree

That’s saying something about MMOs in general, not that GW2 is better for it.

Real life standards suck. Why don’t we get searched and list items acquired before going through every Asura gate, eh? True to life, woo!

If you can’t keep your kitten in your pants and out of your head, go watch some prons. The sturdiest armor in the game shouldn’t look like kittening hooker gear. Appealing to horny teenagers < not degrading yourselves and your game.

If people want skin, keep it to town clothes. Y’know, the ones you wear when you’re not out being mauled by undead, dragons and undead dragons.

Different people have different taste, in this game you can transmute your gear so wether it looks well protected or not doesnt matter.

And appeals to horny teenagers? Yes, but to adults too :P
(i know many that do, so you really cant argue with that)
DIFFERENT TASTE

Game should have both sets, please both groups instead of just one.
Many people have a taste for both.

Okiedoke. Then you know who’s really missing out here? The poor male characters.

Devs, we demand justice! 50% of male armor needs to be shirtless and/or have a banana hammock. We deserve no less.

Just wanted to chime in with my 2 cents.

1. What guys find attractive is often different than what girls find attractive, so the argument that they must be identical is flawed. However, I am perfectly fine with making them identical.

2. Most of the female armor is not that revealing. I hunt around for it myself and have very few choices. A lot of the revealing armor doesn’t even look that great. I have pretty much 1 choice on my medium armored thief and 3 choices on my ele/mesmer. Wish there was more variety.

3. I agree with that point above about real life standards. Many girls do wear very little by their own choice. That said, many guys also run around shirtless. May as well make it even, but by no means stop the revealing armor! (we need more!!)

I also think of people by their character names, so it is even more weird to think of “Oh hey look, Mustang GT just came online!” It’s not as bad with things like “The Incredible Hulk just came online”, but I really prefer real names. I’d much rather see someone named Doug.

Lack of trinity makes this game boring I think

I still play the game, and I still love the game.

And I still love playing a healer in every other game.

I had this problem, made an Asura elementalist – got it to 47. I then quit that and made a human Thief and got it to 80.

I have now deleted the Asura and have an 80 human ele.

All down to personal preference though. For me, the allure of the asura wore off pretty fast and then I just wanted to look good.
