Lack of trinity makes this game boring I think

I am all for having non specific roles to each class (i.e. doing a dungeon with 4 mesmers and 1 necro), I just wish that each class had a better ability to take on each role.

More specifically, I’d like if each class had the ability to hold agro and had the ability to properly heal a group. The current healing has long cooldowns and doesn’t heal for very much. Therefore, I cannot assign myself the role of a dedicated healer – I am primarily DPS, secondary support and I have no choice on the matter.

I agree and disagree.

I do not think that the Trinity is needed in this game.

However, I do like the Trinity. My preferred class is healer. I like keeping my team alive, making hard judgement calls (i.e. sacrifice the almost dead caster to make sure the tank survives or w/e) and healing people randomly out in the world. It provides a feeling of need/value/importance that I do not get anymore. I always feel expendable, and that I could easily not be there and it’d make no difference.

Try a full support Guardian and you’ll have that feeling back.
I played my Guard full support and it heals for bazillions while providing protection to everyone and making a team almost invincible just like old school healers.

Can you provide a link or information for this build? I have a low level guardian alt and haven’t seen anything which provides something similar to a healer build.

I disagree, rather strongly, actually. I think that removing the fixed roles that a Trinity would force onto everyone is one of this this game’s best selling points. You can play your class in a lot of different ways, instead of “Oh, your a healer? Heal. You’re a tank? Sit there and soak up damage.” It allows for more freedom in each class, and makes it so that there’s more than one way of playing it. Bland classes have ruined a lot of MMOs for me, and it’s always because your forced to play every class in one specific way or you die.

While I understand that it sort of makes all the classes “Good at everything; great at nothing” that’s not really a big problem for me. But, I can see why people who like being told exactly what they have to do could be disappointed.

I rather strongly disagree with what you said. It’s not that I enjoy being told exactly what I should do but I hate the fact that I can’t play a healer as this is what I enjoy the most. In GW2 I am forced to play DPS cause that’s what most classes’s main role is really. All classes dps and throw in some support here and there. That pretty much sums it up.

Yes.

It’s not that everyone can do everything.

It’s that everyone can’t do 2/3 of play styles.

@Platypus

You see it is a breach of trust, I see it as an ability to adapt their current model to demands of the gamers. Many gamers were complaining about lack of endgame among other things, this and fractals were two of their additions to address that concern.

My trust isn’t in ANets ability to do everything exactly how they once said it was, as that is not feasible. My trust is that they will continue to work to make the best game they can, and that they will continue to listen and address the concerns of the gamers.

With that, I trust that they are monitoring these forums and listening to everything we are saying. They will then do their best to address all the concerns everyone has with Ascended gear – this doesn’t necessarily mean removing the gear, but may involve changes to how it is implemented.

That said, I personally do not want them to change it, but I trust that they will.

I agree with CriticKitten, the loot should not be removed from these dragons.

I disagree with the motion of randomizing location = disrupting the map.

Having a dragon battle take place randomly when you are in the map shouldn’t be an inconvenience, it should be an epic/awesome surprise! You’re casually adventuring when Oh kitten! There’s a dragon!! At that point either fight or run. What’s the big deal?

To me that sounds cooler than currently:
→ GuildMember: Maw is up <links waypoint>
→ click waypoint, map to location, party with guild member
→ Barely get 3 spells off before Champion dies because 10000x people are killing it. Still get Gold for hitting it 3x
→ Loot chest
→ GuildMember2: Teq up
Repeat

I still do it cuz the events are fun and epic, but they’d be a lot more fun and epic if they weren’t so facerolled and predictable.

In Short, What Would You Change in the PS?

in Personal Story

Posted by: Jemmi.6058

Jemmi.6058

1. Linear story – writers can make a more epic story if they have control over the choices made. I’d rather follow a great story, than control a poor one.

2. Consistent characters – Characters are dropped off and forgotten left right and center. This leaves very little character development.

3. Longer missions – each mission is spaced out far apart and are very short to complete, which made the story often forgotten and lessened my immersion.

If we got rid of timers, then people camping out for the events would do one of two things:

- Stop camping out there in real-time, but leave an alt there and wait for a buddy to tell them it started.

- Camp there 24/7 and wait for it to start.

Some would, not all. The amount of people willing to do that is drastically lower than people who go ALT+TAB google Dragon Timer, select server – ALT TAB back to game, map to next dragon – repeat.

As someone who did dragons very regularly before they made chest changes, I’d rather them just go back to the old system rather than make them random spawns, that would be even worse than what they were before.

Edit: Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for the current chest system, but if I keep getting put in an overflow every time I go to do them, I would rather have the old system back. 1 rare every 3 dragons on average is better than nothing.

I suppose we find different parts ‘worse’ about the situation. The part that I don’t like is the predictability of them. I want to be roaming around and randomly run into an epic battle. Right now I feel like I am playing a bunch of mini-games.

I like how they are personally in terms of loot. I would prefer if their time and location were more random. This would decrease the zerg that hits them at spawning times (and makes them waaaay to easy to kill). I like the good reward, but I’d rather earn it.

Is the game still in Beta?

Jemmi.6058

Disagreed.

The game runs quite well and every software in existence has bugs on release. They are constantly fixing bugs and adding new content. New content naturally creates new bugs when need fixing. It happens.

I for one am glad they released it when they did, because playing a somewhat buggy game is better than waiting. (I barely if ever notice bugs).

If you would like to wait until it is complete, feel free to log off for awhile and come back later.

My recommendation is to keep in your same area but run around looking for dynamic events your level. They are great experience, have some drops and are pretty fun. Their are usually quite a few for each starter area that cycle pretty frequently.

You can also craft and gather for experience. Definitely recommend checking that out if it is something that may interest you.

I do like some of the points on that 2nd link of yours.

Having leaderboards for things like fastest runs through dungeons could be cool. It’d be even cooler if the leaderboards were actual boards in lions arch that you could walk up to and see.

That said, I still like the idea of vertical progression.

For those that do not like the vertical progression, what is the progression for you? I mean outside of PvP, why do you play if you cannot advance your character in some way? For me, the two best ways to advance my character are via story and gear. I’ve completed the personal story, so until they add more story, that leaves achieving better gear.

Before Ascended gear, after exotics, and after completing my personal story, I felt no reason to play. I ended up (pretty much) quitting right before Ascended gear was introduced and only came back a few days ago.

Sounds like you are asking why I do not play WvW. I do not play WvW because I do not like PvP. I enjoy coop and stories. In Call of Duty, I prefer the campaign to online play (but the campaign sucked :\) In Guild Wars 2, I prefer dungeons, event chains and the personal story.

As for the ‘right thing to do’ – The right thing to do, is to not ask people to play in a way they do not want to play. If they do not like PvP, do not ask them to PvP. If they do not like dungeons, don’t ask them to do dungeons anyway.

@Wasabi that is not true, the ones who farm will still want to farm. They will then have more gold.

This idea will simply make the difference between the poor and the rich less drastic. It will result in inflation, yes, but it will decrease that gap. Isn’t that a good thing?

To make it clearer, let’s assume player A and B. A is a more casual player, B is less casual player.

Prior to change, player A has 5 gold and player B has 50 gold. Player B is 10x richer than A

After the change, player A has 65 gold and B has 115 gold (possibly a bit more due to inflation in the TP, doubtfully to the point of 650 gold). Player B is less than 2x richer than A

(after 1 month of play)

Although I agree free money would lead to inflation, I believe there is something many of you are overlooking. Gold is used for Non-TP purchasing as well; i.e. cultural armor. Extra gold used on vendors would not affect inflation to the same extent.

This is not meant as a flame, but I am seriously concerned if you have 800-1000 hours of playtime at this point.

1000 hours roughly translates to 13 hours / day every day. That is absolutely insane. If you sleep healthily, you’ll get 8 hours of sleep per day and add in a few other necessities (cooking, cleaning eating etc), then the only thing you are doing every day is playing GW2? I hate when people say this, but seriously, go outside. Get some exercise, study/go to work etc. It’s not healthy to play this much.

I have 300ish (~4 hours a day average) hours and I am considering myself to be borderline addict (to the point that I am concerned for myself too)

More on topic: The legendaries were designed to be a long-term goal, save up money over time and some time way down the road you can get one. I am shocked that some people already have it. Personally, it’s not a priority for me.

That said, I would like it if there was a better way to make some moneys. I always feel broke

Hard time leveling..

I found the best way to level my thief was dual daggers.

You hit death blossom, wait 1 second, death blossom, wait 1 second, death blossom – you now have it and anything around with 9 stacks of bleeding. It will die very quickly if it’s not already dead. While you are death blossoming you are evading, so you barely get hit doing this.

Once you get traits, add traits which give you initiative for stealing, +1 initiative and increase initiative regen.

Then you can DB, DB, DB, steal, use steal skill (if stealth, backstab), then DB again

EDIT: Using the DB method, you can easily take on groups of enemies. I personally solo’d 5 ettins quickly with relative ease using DB.

^^this is where your “statement got bugged”

Reading the thread I see 2 obvious conclusions:

1) I did it fine on my Thief
2) I did it fine on my Warrior

that also corrisponds with the sentiment all over the forum about those 2 classes.

Q @ Anet, why did you add so many classes if its all about thieves and warriors?

My main is a thief and I have several alts including a lvl 69 Ele and 48 Mesmer. I definitely found doing personal story the easiest on my ele, and hardest on my Mesmer. That said, none of the story missions have been unacceptably difficult. I rarely get downed in any mission, and on a few occasions I have actually died once or twice.

My point is that it is quite possible to solo these missions with different classes.

There are plenty of different types of enemies in this game.. Take a look at your achievement panel under Slayer (I think it’s called) to see all the different categories (and then there is variation within those categories).

Additionally, I think it makes sense that you find Jotun throughout the Norn area as you level up. They are big part of that story line. Just like Centaurs are for humans (I play human mostly). It would be absolutely ridiculous if you started out with a big Centaur-oriented story and then all of a sudden they are gone.. “Oh, well you hit level 15 and they are strictly a 1-14 level race, so they no longer matter.” Now that would be lazy.

I am unsure how penatbater had such an easy time. Perhaps you went with a guild group? That boss is easily the hardest thing I have faced in this game so far (except maybe the Arah boss in exp mode).

We literally spent over an hour on this guy before quitting my first time. The 2nd time took a little while, but we eventually pulled through. Even when we won, we died a fair number of times.

Now that I am better with the game and have guild-mates who I actively run with, I hope that it will be easier on my elementalist alt than it was on my thief before.

Maybe you should check out a new server. I am on Jade Quarry, and the chat is lively and there are people in every zone.

You may want to look into joining a guild too, at least you can have guild chat then.

You can gain crafting by speaking with a crafting instructor in your (or any) hometown, and certain outposts. They will have an icon above their head. For example, the armorsmith has a shield above his head I believe. They also show up on your map with their respective icons. Hover your cursor over them to see what they are. Once you find the one you want, speak to them and they tell you have to craft and can set you to that profession. I hope that makes sense. You may be able to get more info at http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Crafting

Another note, the wiki is a great resource. Type /wiki (search criteria) into chat in-game and it’ll open up your browser and take you right to it.

Different starting areas have different quests, if you don’t like Charr, I do strongly recommend checking human/sylvari areas (you can take your charr there through the gate as I said).

Also this thread has some great tips for starting out https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/players/OMG-If-you-only-knew-this-tips-for-new-players/first

Gotta say, I disagree entirely.

I often play single player, but like that I run into other people on the map. It was one of the biggest issues I had with Guild Wars 1, I was always on my own and never met anyone. Fun game, but not social enough for me. I love how I can just run around and run into people, and rarely have to LFG for DE’s and quests. Of course that changes with dungeons, and I’d like a better LFG tool for that.

I also think that the leveling system in Guild Wars 2 is near perfect.

Personally, I love this game from level 1 to 8. I only PvE and run heart quests, dungeons, dynamic events, exploration. Have you checked out crafting? Have you run any dynamic events? Check out the other starter areas (use the asura gate in the Charr hometown.) Personally, my favourite starter area is human, then sylvar, then charr/asura, then Norn.

You may want to check out PvP. You can try that out from the get-go and you’re leveled up to 80. I know very little about PvP, so I cannot advise more than that.

Depends heavily on the class you play. I also had quite a tough time with him. I found using smoke screen helped wonders (I am a Thief). between condition removal, dodge and smoke screen, I was able to keep myself alive.

In case you are unaware, smoke screen blocks projectiles. Plenty of other skills offer this same effect, look for one in your utilities that will work for you.

One other thing. I am unsure if you noticed, but it will remove conditions from itself and when it does so, it will heal itself. The heal is not major, but enough that you should probably avoid loading conditions on it. Go for burst damage if you can.

Jemmi.6058

In my opinion, I played all of GW1 and loved the story. However, I did not delve much into backstory, and I believe the backstory is what really matters in cross over from 1 to 2. I’d recommend playing GW1, not necessarily to understand the lore better, but because the story is awesome. I absolutely loved the prophecies and factions campaigns. Eye of the North and Nightfall were also very fun.

I solo’d all the campaigns with my monk and henchmen. It definitely gets more difficult to solo nearer the ending of each campagin, but not impossible. I also found it easier to solo with my monk than with other professions. This is because as a Monk you are in the back and can run away / sacrifice your henchmen if things go sour. You can also get the skill “rebirth” and resurrect your team from a safe distance. Finally. I’d recommend Monk, because the henchmen healers are sub-par. You will have a much better chance of survival if you are doing to healing

My general mixup of henchmen was: Me (all out healer), Prot monk, Tanky warrior, interupt ranger, blood necro, and the rest as various DPS.

Hope that helps/gives you some insight.

Are you not criticizing him because you can’t handle his praise?

His point is simply that he wants ANet to know that not everyone is upset with the game.

Personally…

  • I love Trahearne and hate Tybalt (no I am not trolling, that is just my opinion)
  • I rarely run into bugs, and when I do, I understand that this game is huge and patiently wait for a fix (and submit a bug report if one is not already on the forums)
  • I find the personal story is anything but too hard / too easy. In fact, I think the difficulty is perfect. I find it challenging, but doable.
  • I love that there are one-time events that I may miss due to real life. They make the world feel real and dynamic.
  • I find the dungeons fun and enjoyable. I don’t run them to grind for tokens for armor, I run them because they are fun.
  • I love how ANet monitor’s forums, reddit and facebook and communicates with it’s customers on each.
  • I think the game economy and trading post are great. Yes, I have trouble making lots of money, but I don’t play the game to get rich. I play it to have fun (which I do).
  • I appreciate that ANet is constantly adding new content to the game. 2 months in and we get a new dungeon and zone? Awesome.

My critiques?

  • Medium armor lacks variety, been said enough
  • Cannot preview armor on the trading post
  • There is no dungeon queuing system
  • Underwater combat is frustrating (I think the best solution would be to decrease the number of enemies. I find it very difficult to fight less than 3 guys underwater, and I usually fight 5+)

I really enjoy this game.

The one time event is one time for everyone, so that way it cannot be spoiled across time zones.

I’d be interested to see if most people here go to church, never mind if most people are still at church at that time. Also, 12 noon PST is 3pm noon EST, I doubt that people will be in church that late? Anyway, not trying to start a religious debate (Definitely not the place for that), I am just saying that might not be the best argument against noon for the event.

Personally, noon on Sunday is one of the most ideal times for me to log in.

Also… if you were there at the halloween event, you know that you had 2 full days to run the Mad King dungeon. The only thing missed at noon was a pretty cool cut-scene (easily watchable on youtube). This cannot be repeatable, because it wouldn’t make sense. The cutscene opened the gateway to the dungeon.

ANet, I think you are doing a fantastic job with these events. I love that some things are one-time. Even if I miss them, it makes the world feel more real and dynamic. Cheers

Personally, I’d like to see exotics reworked.

I think the jump from rare to exotic is very small and exotic to legendary is huge. Most people should be in rare gear, working for exotic at this point.

I also am not a huge fan of how you get exotic gear (karma, crafting and dungeon tokens). I’d like to see the primary way to get exotics is through drops. Right now you can be in full exotic gear within a day or so of hitting 80.

I agree with removing MF from game.
I agree that veteran/elite mobs and chests should have better loot than regular mobs

I think a random exotic should drop primarily from end bosses of dungeons (maybe rare items in lower level dungeons). This would still take awhile to create a dungeon armor set, but provide a bit more reward each run through.

Living World—The Living World team is focused on adding new content to the game world. This team will be adding and refining the types of content you already know in PvE and WvW, as well as developing new features and rewards.

I also wanted to add my 2 cents to the topic. I have run into very few bugs over the past month. A couple halloween ones right off the bat and The Hatchery bug. Then maybe a couple dynamic event bugs here or there. There are way fewer bugs in the game now compared to 1.5 months ago. IMO they are doing a great job, keep it up.

I have been leveling alts and haven’t found anywhere to be dead. In fact, I have had greater social experiences this time around. There are fewer people; consequently, people are more interested in working together and/or forming parties. I’ve yet to see anywhere ‘dead’ though.
