Commander's don't need to show their commander icon outside of WvWvW

To get around the idea of being a good leader/bad leader, perhaps the commander title should be voted in.
i.e. if you get 100 people to support you cause to be a commander, you get the title.
because it wouldn’t be difficult if you could glass-cannon dps it in 20 seconds. That is crazy that it took you 25 minutes to kill it though. Which zone is that in?

I meant an option for me to turn it off so I do not see them, not an option for them to turn it off

I would like to see an option to turn it off (or is there an option already?)
I am sorry if I bothered you both. I do not think that Arena Net will change their practices, and I find complaining about it kind of amusing. That said, I am not opposed to If they decide to post news regarding their upcoming interviews on the forums or website, that’s great.
I was trying to give some insight to the fact that you are not missing out on much, and that most of the important news is on the forums.
I am sorry, this really isn’t the place for this conversation, but I can’t help but reply regarding the selling my information. There is absolutely nothing on facebook that I wouldn’t care if the whole world saw/knew. OK there are some pictures of me drunk at a party several years back. Crazy! Right? I guess I am just more relaxed regarding privacy than others? That or I have less to hide. I wish more services were like facebook and google, in which they provide an amazing service for no monetary cost, and all I have to do is agree to let them fire ads at me and sell my usage habits to corporations. I am not trying to be a sale person, that is just imo. I respect that some people, including yourselves, disagree with this entirely.
@AcidicVision
1. Colin having an interview is hardly important news and announcements (Not a bash at Colin at all. I wish I could catch the interview, but am at work. I’ll read up on it later)
2. I did say that interviews info etc is posted on Facebook and not on the forums
If you want this type of information, like them on facebook. If you don’t, then don’t. Facebook is free-to-use you know.
Cheers mate.
I think they have been using the forums for all of their important information. Everything has been in the news and announcements section – or stickied in one of the other areas (i.e. Halloween).
PS: the news and announcements on Facebook almost always is just a link to the forum post.

I just wanted to add, another thing I miss about being a healer is my attention to the battle. As a DPS-centered class, I focus entirely on the enemy and much less on my team. As a healer, I am constantly watching both the enemy and the healer. That way I can start casting my slower heal on the non-tank guy that the boss is about to hit, because when he get’s hit – he definitely will need the heal.
I imagine playing a guardian would help a bit with this aspect though? I haven’t played guardian much to know.
I too miss being a healer. I love this game and am just playing my 2nd and 3rd favourite class types (sorcerer/rogue, or elementalist/thief in this case)
I have played a healer as my main for every RPG dating back to text-based games, and nothing in GW2 compares to what I enjoy about playing a healer.
I read an article that mentioned they asked around and the consensus was people who play healer just want to help their team and play support, so they came up with ways to do that which are not healing. This is just not the case for me. I mean yes, I want to be a support for my team, but the aspect of healing I like are: 1) quick reaction times on using a fast heal cast spell right before death 2) math (yes I said it!) 3) prioritizing/making tough choices.
In GW2 I throw down my water spring on someone who is near death, and guess what? He dodge rolled away from the enemy mid-cast. Yay waste of a spell. (This has happened to me approximately 95% of the time I have used the spell). I am not mad that they dodge rolled, they were definitely in the right. I am just annoyed because the spell is inherently useless. I’d like a direct heal spell instead.
I understand the removal of the class though, it was always tough for finding a group whenever I was not a healer, and impeccably easy whenever I was. I do appreciate that any class is a viable addition to your team.
Guilty of it? I think it is great that companies use social media to spread information. It is one of the most effective means of doing so (and yes it’s easy and cheap).
That said, I follow GW2 on facebook, and I do not find they post a lot there that I do not see on the forums as well. The biggest things that don’t cross over might be news regarding upcoming interviews etc.
Over 800,000 people like their facebook page, so it is certainly a great way to spread the word. I’d imagine more players see information on facebook than the forums. This may be ANets best way to reach the broadest audience.
Why do you have such a problem with Facebook anyway?
I am sorry if this has already been addressed, but on the note of elementalists attacking to slowly….
My main is a thief that I primarily use with dual daggers. You could say that the thief attacks very quickly (quite possibly the quickest in the game?)
That said, I find I can attack faster with my Ele. With the staff, I can cast down eruption, shockwave and then switch to fire, throw down a lava font and the 3 spell (forget the name), throw out a fireball → once that is all complete I’ve got the enemy with 8 stacks of bleed, on-fire and lots of direct damage → The time for this to occur is probably equivalent to 2-3 DB’s on my thief.
The difference? I don’t have to run up to the enemy. I can cast these all over the place without moving. If I am fighting multiple enemies, I can definitely CC/Kill them way faster with my ele than most other classes that I have had the pleasure of using.
@Josh
Don’t feel bad about making some frustrated with the tower. People will always be frustrated with something! I think many people loved the tower. I for one, loved the tower. That said, it was too hard for me, and I did give up eventually. I think you did a great job with the design of it. Cheers
I find it frustrating simply because skill plays a bigger role than traits and equipment in most cases. When I am on my alt and want to run the dungeons, I do find it frustrating that others will only group with 80’s. I’ve definitely grouped with 80’s who were less helpful in the group than some lower level peeps.
Personally, I liked Trehearne. I really didn’t like Tybalt though, so it is quite possible I was just happy to have someone less annoying by my side.
Sure I understand that. Though, I am unsure if that is really peak time or not? A lot of people east of me will be asleep by that time – maybe 6pm is peak time, but I am sure by 10pm (where it is 1am eastern time) that it’s not peak.
Which zones are you leveling in mostly? I can travel there and see how it is on my server when I am off work.
I play usually after work. I am in the Pacific time zone so probably between 6pm and 10pm pacific on weekdays, and various times throughout weekends.
I level humans primarily, so most of my leveling has been in Queensdale, Kessex, Gendarren – but I’ve been to most zones. I travel to leveling areas of the other races and complete them. I’ve leveled in Lonars Pass, that place with Ebonhawk, Bloodtide Coast, Harathi Hinterlands etc.
I’ve personally never witnessed this problem. Every zone I’ve been in has had plenty of people around and reasonably lively map chat. Could just be my server though – JQ.
To add a bit to this – there are less people than at launch; however, there are people around. I am now running most events with 2-5 random people around rather than 5-20. I actually prefer this.
Sad face, I didn’t see the chest when I did this before. Thought the automatic reward was it!
I actually wish that choosing the order had a bigger impact. For me, I felt that it affected a few personal story missions for a handful of levels and that was it. At level 80, I don’t find that it matters. I did use whispers coat for awhile, but changed it eventually.
Are there plans for bringing in more order-oriented content?
Hey Vees,
Were you able to finish this eventually? If not, I’d be happy to group with you and help you out.
Cheers
@Eladriel
I resent being called a liar.
I did personal story on my thief to 80 with little to no difficulty. Did I die ever? Yes. Did I die too much? No. Was I ever frustrated with difficulty? No.
I am now running through it with my elementalist and doing many of the same or similar quests. Either elementalists are ridiculously more powerful than thieves, I am much better at the game than before or ANet has downed the difficulty on these. Every mission is down-right easy now. (I am only lvl 27 on my ele granted.)
I think a difficulty option would be great, but would prefer if the story mission difficulty was chosen at character creation. Otherwise it would be too easy to tone down the difficulty when things get tough, and then I’d do it cuz it’s easy, but would regret it later.
I personally feel the most epic with my thief. However, I play PvE exclusively, so I am unsure if they would feel as epic in large-scale WvW.
Sounds like you need to strafe and dodge more. As an ele you have plenty of CC which you can use to knockback and slow down your opponent and then run away. I assume your problem is in the stables. Simply dodge away and slow them down with (cripple from earth, freeze from water, shock from air) and then run outside. Switch to fire and dps like crazy while strafing in a circle and you’ll own it pretty fast.
I had no problem completing the story mode on my 80 thief, and I did this particular instance with my Mesmer – again with few to no problems.
I for one really appreciate that the story missions are challenging. My only gripe is how short they are.
The beta weekend events were after I went to sleep, as I had work the following morning (and I am pacific time Canada, I got to sleep around 11pm).
I think that most people had the problem that it was in the night/early morning.
In some ways, 7:20 am is better than what people in North America had. (11:20 pm here, but 2:20am eastern time?)
Back on topic – Let’s hope the finale event is 24 hours as someone previously said

Perhaps the reward should be given in two’s and the two-handed items require 2 tokens to purchase?
Sorry if someone replied with this idea, I skimmed the posts quickly while at work
are you guys clickers or something?
Nope. I use a Razor Naga mouse and use the side number keys for my skills.
Regardless of how many people insist that they did it with no problems, the fact remains that many people have been quite vocal about the fact that they dislike the sudden surge of difficulty between regular PVE content and personal story missions.
Do you honestly not feel that the personal story missions are much more difficult than regular PVE content? And if you acknowledge that they are more difficult (regardless of whether or not that increase in difficulty prevented you, personally, from completing the content), then my question is simply: why must it be so? I want to enjoy the story for the plot twists and characters…not spend my time beating my head against my desk in frustration.
I do not acknowledge that they are more difficult. On a few occasions, I found the story missions to be a bit hard and I died a few times. That said, I have had the same experience with regular PvE content.
There is a great range from too easy to challenging in all aspects of open world PvE and personal story.
I have played Human Thief [Street Rat, Parents, Whispers] to 80, Asura Ele to 48 [Can’t remember?, Weather Machine, Whispers] Human Mesmer to 48 [Commoner, Circus, Priory] (and a few others below level 20)
At no point have I ever thought that anything in this game was too difficult (outside of a few story dungeons)
I actually bought the profane armor skin for my thief thinking it was for medium armors. I then realized it wasn’t, made a mesmer and used it on her.
Although I agree that the whining is ridiculous in nearly all cases on these forums, I disagree with your post to stop them.
From a business stand point, the loud few who complain are very important for providing valuable feedback. When I first got a job working as a customer service agent for an American cell company (I am Canadian, not that it matters), I was told that the customers who hurt the company most are the amiable ones. That is, the customers who are disgruntled by something, but keep quiet about it.
That aside, as a fellow player, I think the whining in the past couple of days regarding purchasing keys and complaints about posting in pacific time zone instead of GMT are some of the most ridiculous things I have ever heard. I agree with the analogy to a lottery ticket.
Why!?! (MAJOR Order of Whispers Spoiler: do NOT read if you have not done the lvl 50 quest)
Posted by: Jemmi.6058
am I the only one who found his character annoying and was happy to be rid of him??
I did every story mission from 1-80 (including this one, I was Human/Street Rat) with dual daggers on my thief. A few of them were hard and required a 2nd or possibly 3rd attempt, but none were too difficult to get through.
Granted, there have been a few patches and I am not sure if the patches made any of the missions more difficult?
If you cannot make it through with D/D but really want to stick with D/D, then I think this is a good thing. It is forcing you to learn how to play your class/build more effectively.
Good luck man
Edit: I did carry dual pistols / shortbow and believe I switched to them for particularly hard parts, but kept with dual daggers for each mission as my primary weapons of choice.

Interesting that you have this problem, because I have actually used the opposite scenario to my advantage.
What I mean is that I stand there looking at a few mobs that I don’t feel like fighting and suddenly a guy runs by and the mobs all chase him. I then run my way past them all and they totally ignore me (even after they stopped chasing him and returned to their normal spots, they just walked by me).
Guess it is pretty random.
The LFG tool is useless at best, and that is not just because people don’t use it.
An actual dungeon finder would be loads better.
The message suppression is extremely frustrating, I agree.
I like DR in theory but I too find it frustratingly easy to hit.
For me the problem is DR with ‘farming’ crafting mats. My leatherworking is waaay too low for a lvl 80 thief, so I hit some lower level areas to kill some skales to farm blue mats. I killed maybe 10-15 of them, got 2 blue drops and stopped receiving loot entirely.
…Yay?
Note: I also killed other enemies while there (Gryphons, hyenas and spiders)
I have definitely seen this too.
What I notice is they usually howl for more wolves when they are low on health ~maybe like 15% hp or so. My solution was to make sure I save a good finisher to quickly kill them before they howl at that point.
Hope that helps.
PS: I was able to solo a pack of 5 wolves + 1 veteran wolf with this strategy
This is clearly not a fix. It is ‘temporarily’ disabled.
The most obvious reason for them disabling it is to prevent further abuse while they sort out a fix. Fixes can take time. Relax and kill something else.
PS: This is an exploit.
Exploit: An exploit (from the verb to exploit, in the meaning of using something to one’s own advantage) is a piece of software, a chunk of data, or sequence of commands that takes advantage of a bug, glitch or vulnerability in order to cause unintended or unanticipated behaviour to occur on computer software….
Bug: A software bug is an error, flaw, mistake, failure, or fault in a computer program or system that produces an incorrect or unexpected result
(Sources are wikipedia, sue me)
It is pretty clear that this was an unexpected result and that many people were taking advantage of the situation.
I didn’t read the comments, but I read the OP’s post – so forgive me if this is repetitive.
If you are saying it is wrong to tell you that you are playing the game wrong, would you tell me that I am playing the game wrong if I were to play Wow and complain that I am not level 85 when all i have done is craft gear? You could say, no, you are supposed to quest. Then I could argue, that isn’t fun for me – I want to craft gear and level up, why can’t I do that?
(I wouldn’t actually say that, I love questing.) My point is, you can tell someone they are playing the game wrong if they are not playing the way the game was designed to be. It doesn’t matter if you think the way it is designed is less fun. It’s still being played wrong from a design stand-point.
I really do not know how you can exhaust everything from the game so quickly. I feel like I have barely scratched the surface and I have easily over 200 hours of gameplay. I also feel like I have been playing tooooo much, and that it is a huge addiction.
Hey, sorry if this has been posted. I’ve done a quick search, but only have a short break at work
Anyway, I’d like the option to turn down spell effects. If this is already in, I can’t find it.
I want this, because:
a) I can’t see. I am a thief, and when I am in melee, I cannot see me or the enemy NPC I am attacking while meteors are falling from the sky and grenades are exploding around me. This makes it very tough to know when to dodge attacks or see AoE circles on the ground. This hasn’t been a problem in range, only while in melee.
b) My computer slows down. I have my graphics settings tuned as best I can to balance making the game look beautiful and have decent performance. However, it does noticeably slow down when those effects are happening. This is not limited to large battle dynamic events, but also in dungeons. This is also only a problem when my thief is in melee.
Currently my graphics settings are almost all set to Low/None with Shaders set to Middle and Rendering set to Native.
The majority of you are taking this scenario to another level. If you are buying a car which costs around £5k+ .. of course you are going to read up about it, It would be stupid not to. There is a massive difference between buying a car, oblivious to what its like, and buying a petty £35 for the PC.
I will no longer post and read on this subject because it was stupid of me to post such a topic that is directed towards the majority of the people that post here.
And to the guy who said he disagrees due to the reason we have access to the internet, that is the stupidest reason I have seen on this topic. I know a few people who very rarely/never go on the internet. According to your logic, everybody should know in detail about every product that are purchasing because we have access to tools like the internet.
I think that is that person’s point. Due to smartphones and the internet, you can actually know about any product you purchase. It is incredibly easy to get this information and there is no excuse to not accessing this information, except for the lack of will to do so. If you lack to will to do so, then you shouldn’t complain about it.
As for your note about the car vs PC game. I agree, they are different. However, if 35 pounds is nothing to you, then why complain about your purchase? If it is throw away money and you aren’t having fun, move on?
Although I agree that people have a right to complain, and that these forums are a useful tool for communicating those concerns to ArenaNet, your argument is extremely flawed (OP).
It is absolutely a customers responsibility to research a product before making the purchase. Ignorant consumerism is a choice.
If you want to purchase something with no knowledge of the game, when the company released many statements/articles etc regarding the game, that is your choice. At that point, you cannot get mad at the company for not telling you what you were getting into.
As for all of the people telling others ‘this isn’t the game for you.’ or ‘you should have read up on this beforehand.’ Well, they are saying that because the points being complained about are not bugs, but are intended attributes of the game. Attributes which many costumers read about and were/are excited for about this game.
I hope arenanet listens and finds some fun ‘end-game’ for those complaining, but I gotta say that thus far I entirely disagree with this. End-game in WoW is horrendous. I am not sure who likes it or why? I got 85 and quit like a week later. Out-equipped all dungeons and Raids are the most boring thing of life. There is absolutely no challenge in the game anymore and the only reason to play is to get even better equipment – further reducing the challenge. As for GW2, I’ve only been 80 for a few days, but I am not coming anywhere close to exhausting all of the game their is to offer and have not felt any sense of grind. I know once I am done with this character, I can make another and play an entirely different story.
TLDR – Consumers should research products. Players should give feedback, ANet listens. WoW is definitely not the game for me, GW2 is. Thanks ANet!
Yeah I am not really complaining about the flood of iron so much as the lack of copper at the level the gear is created for.
Luckily I want 100% map completion on my main, so I’ve headed back to starter areas with my 80 and am gathering copper while I’m at it.
As for the leather/tailor issue. My main is an 80 thief with leather and 2nd is a 45 ele with tailoring. I know exactly what you mean
I agree with your post. It’d be nice to have something on the UI to easily consume my chocolate cherries
You gather copper in the 1-15 areas really (Copper is in Kessex Hills, but rare), and can’t wear the armor until 5-10 levels later. Seems silly to me, but OK.
Wish they had more copper / less Iron in KH as their seems to be a flood of iron in the market and a lack of copper.
Hey everyone,
I am playing an alternate character now and am leveling armorsmith/weaponsmithing on her. She is now level 17 and in Kessex Hills. I notice that the majority of ore’s there are Iron and Silver. However, I am still on copper ore for crafting. Beyond that, the gear I am making is too high level for me (20-22).
I want to know why Copper ore would be necessary to make level 20 gear, but the level 20 area drops iron? :|
The only one thing I agree with is how you feel insignificant in huge battles against a single boss. These only happen once in awhile (for me anyway) and they seem pretty epic, so I am mostly OK with them.
It is the 1 thing I hate most about WoW, 25-man raids where you spam kill a boss for 10 minutes and feel like your character is really insignificant.
PS: Mangarrage: your post states that people share his ‘sediment’ – Made me laugh, mostly cuz I am en environmental science major :P You meant sentiment.
OP said that range has it easier than melee.
You all went out of your way to try and explain to OP how to play melee, by using combos/abilities/toughness, when his point was range doesn’t need to do any of that stuff to be effective.
Not really. This is only true if the mob is attacking someone else aka your melee. If you were all ranged the mob would still come after someone and that person would be either kiting or dodging just the same. Whoever is doing the dodging and abilities to keep the aggro and essentially tie the mob up be it range or melee is essentially what’s causing everyone else to be able to pew pew.
I’m not sure how to respond to the idea of all classes being able to melee effectively. If we make it so all classes including the cloth ones can get in melee and be effective I’m not sure how you can do that without either lowering damage significantly in effect making warriors and guardians boring because there would be no threat to them. Seems like you would have to somehow make it so wearing armor doesn’t matter or something which seems like a bad idea. Seriously though who rolls a cloth or leather class and expects to be able to tank hits and wreck shop in melee besides maybe thieves?
Though I do not have a specific problem with melee in this game (and I currently play a D/D Thief at level 80), I do disagree with your point.
Sure as a range you will have to kite and use CC while attacking an enemy if you do not have a melee class ’tanking. However, it is a lot easier to kite around something while firing your weapon or casting and not get hit than it is to melee / dodge and not get hit. (I also have a staff ele at level 45 with which I kite /cast frequently).
In essence, the OP was correct in saying that range is easier than melee. Though melee is much more fun!
I believe there is already that notice built into the game? I could be wrong; however, yesterday when I tried to sell an item on the TP I got a pop-up that said something like “Warning the item may be sold less than at a vendor” – I hit cancel and increased my listing price.
