Having Control on Leveling Speed

Well you are down-leveled which allows you to experience these other areas, even if you have gained levels. I think that pretty much solves your problem, save for the crafting. I have little to say about crafting, I’ve always found crafting to be kind of useless in these games. You can get the same equipment or better by doing fun content like dungeons, rather than sitting at a crafting station forever.

Mega events should be epic

Well they are low level zones if any thing they may want to look at making level scaling harder on higher level then the current level zone they are in. They are still working on that if a level 80 in a level 10 zone is stronger then a level 10 by a great deal then it will never feel epic as you put it but if that level 80 in a level 10 zone is at the same power these events will start to feel epic you may even need to roll out of ability.
So the idea is not to make mobs stronger but to make the players weaker. A group of the same size of the high level vs low level should both have the same difficultly level to deal with these high level events.

Sure. I am not speaking for everyone or the OP, but for myself, these fights are not epic in their design even. Stationary opponents, limited attacks, very high health pools (on some). The epic-ness of these fights end at the design of the boss. The dragons look awesome and so does Behemoth, but once you have seen it 100x, the looks stale and you find that the fights are boring.

Mega events should be epic

I don’t think the events that take more than 10 minutes are really epic feeling. Once you know what to do and where to stand, it is simple and the epicness wears off.

Shatter for example when I first did it was a wow! type moment but as I’ve done them, I know that there is 0 chance of me dying. Tequatal also. Once you know where to stand and if you have stability, you won’t get touched by anything and it is pretty much auto attack. These things should actually be epic.

Jormag is epicish but still meh to me. Ice wall beat down is still kind of booring and again, once you know what you need, you just stand there and fire. Golem part is mostly the same thing but you change your targets to the pillars on occasion.

Agreed, everything needs to be more epic!

I think the best way to do that is to make each fight less tedious. The boss should move around and attack in unexpected ways. Right now, stand in one location and auto-attack.

You are right that jormag is a step in the right direction, but the ice wall is definitely more boring and not epic. I would prefer if the ice spikes that come down did not cover the entire area except the side ledge. Then you would have to keep moving around and use that jumping skill on your gun to dodge the spikes.

Hello Satori,

Through no research but just general trends of my experience, I receive about the same for both. Anywhere from 0-3 ectos with each kit. I’d say that Black Lions feel like they get a bit more, but I attribute that to luck of the draw more than probability.

I personally liked it in GW1 where you kept attaining new skills as you ventured into new areas (that you bought from vendors with SP). I feel that might not work with their current system, but if they can make it work that gets my #1 vote.

I disagree that it is a stupid idea. There are players, such as myself, who has no interest in playing with the Mystic Forge and has collected quite a bit of skill points among my characters. I’d like to be able to spend it on something, it certainly would be cool to spend it on access to things. Maybe a new jumping puzzle that costs 5 SP (similar to tier 3 skill), a new locked/open world event that costs 10 SP, and a new dungeon that costs 30 SP (similar to an elite skill)?

I do not think that Thieves are too hard for noobs. I started with it, and I was fine with it. I was definitely a ‘noob’ at that time, because the game had just come out.

I have played WoW, but my mains were Priest and Mage, so maybe our tastes differ.

You may want to check out Guardian as that would be the closest to a Paladin. Obviously, Warrior is closest to Warrior. Demo/Aff Warlock is probably closest to a Necro. If it helps, I don’t like playing any of Necro/Guardian or Warrior, so if our tastes truly differ, these may be prime for you

Lastly, discontinued skins will most assuredly lead to more unique looks. Sorry, but this part isn’t opinion, this is fact.

No, it’s not fact. What ends up happening is a good percentage of people who have one-time-only items end up quitting over time. I’ve seen this happen in every MMO I’ve played. Eventually you simply won’t see them around at all. Gradual extinction of an item doesn’t create “more looks”.

Lane said more unique looks, not more looks. They mean almost the polar opposite. More unique is synonymous with more rare, if that helps.

Say for example there are 0 items that are unique. As you say, people will gradually quit and the extinction will begin, then down the road this item is super rare with only a handful of people having it. Now we are 1 unique item. ==> More unique items

I have an 80 Thief and 80 Ele (and 80 mesmer), but only dabbled with Ranger and Necro.

I would disagree about the Thief. Survivability is quite high with a thief for soloing open world content. If you throw up D/D you can use the number 3 skill a few times to stack up several bleeds and then just melee it to kill it. You evade all attacks while using #3 skill. Using this I solo’d 5+ Ettins without getting hit quite easily.

Elementalist is very fun and I mained it after my Thief. In my opinion, it is much more versatile than a thief. You can switch up your play-style quite often, which makes it a very fun class to play and gets boring less quickly.

I know Mesmer was not on your list, but imo it should be. It has very good survivability with illusions tanking, and it can do a great amount of damage. With my mesmer I can solo much more difficult mobs than I can with my Thief/Ele.

Elementalists are great for exploration because they can have almost permanent swiftness. Thieves have a +speed signet which is also quite nice. Mesmers have only one swiftness spell on their focus, which gives you swiftness for 12 seconds every 25 seconds. Therefore I’d say Ele > Thief > Mesmer for exploration. I cannot speak to Necro/Ranger.

Here is my personal rating (based on opinion and experience):
Survival: Mesmer > Ranger > Thief > Necro > Ele
Killing Speed: Thief > Mesmer > Ele > Ranger > Necro
Enjoyment: Mesmer > Ele > Thief > Ranger > Necro
Exploration: Ele > Thief > Mesmer

ok… how about this….

Since they glorify the idea of nobody being in set “roles” in a group (i.e. every class can damage, every class can heal, no Trinity, etc…) why don’t they just let us mix and match armors? I am sure we could come up with some EPIC looking combinations taking pieces from all 3 types of armor. Just let us choose our skins .

Although I 100% agree, I believe the design philosophy is that you can tell what type of profession someone is by their armour.

a) add more armor skins
b) LET US STORE THEM LIKE IN SPVP

Allow me to elaborate on my previews post, collecting armor sets it’s very unpractical in the current game setting do to inventory limitations, 6 slots each set, weapons on the other hand, 1, ence my comment “people actually collect weapons”.

I myself have 3 armor sets on my main toon and 7 weapons, and like most people I’d really like a system like in PvP where I could easily change the skin BUT with that there goes the transmutation crystals usefulness, in the game that’s “depending” on the money people put in the gem store.

OK, that makes sense. I don’t carry around alternatives for either, just pick one and go with it.

Why should every Charr have the same appearance? Charr SHOULD have varying appearances, just like humans do. Sometimes these appearances may result in larger or smaller features than normal, they may result in appearing older or younger, uglier or prettier, cuter or fiercer, skinnier or fatter and so on.

Every Charr should not be fierce too, some could be cowards while others could be fierce warriors. Some could be gentle or calm etc.

this is how I view it. Imagine your reading the harry potter series when it comes out. You read the first three books right when each comes out. You end up not reading 4-6 right when they come out. You return to wanting to continue the series when the 7th book comes out, but they took books 1-6 off the shelves. Now the only way to know whats going on is to ask someone who’s read it or read an online summary. Does this make any sense to you? I already live in reality, I play video games to escape that not to enter a new one with similar pressures.

Shrug, i see where you are coming from, but books and games a very different mediums. Additionally, MMO’s are a very very different form of entertainment than a book. MMO’s center around community and the environment (I do like a good story to them too). Books are not at all centered around community and environment.

Therefore, I am not inclined to agree with your analogy.

I think it is very cool that you can take a break from the game and come back and have the world changed from when you left it. I do not think it’d be cool to not be able to access harry potter books because I took a break though. That’d have sucked.

9.b. I just thought of this one, and I think it makes it more fun @TooBz. You then have to find the location, fight your way through to the bandit and assassinate the bandit leader.

So, after 6 pages of arguing and complaining, I believe I’ve seen two actual suggestions:

  1. Change the daily requirements to a weekly that can be completed in one longer session
  2. Eliminate laurels from dailies

The first is guaranteed to not please everyone. Some people are happy to see players spread out to different zones. Players who like the focus provided by having daily objectives.

The second suggestion might mean putting laurel acquisition into a different type of content. Since we don’t know what that would be, it’s hard to judge the reactions to it — but I’m betting someone, maybe many someones, are going to be angry. The other option would be to eliminate laurels altogether. This would result in FotM being once again the only way to gain Ascended Rings and large guild missions as the only means to gain earrings. Amulets would have to be put into some other form of content. Again, you’re going to have some portion of the player-base cheesed off.

I’m still waiting for a good suggestion.

You forget..

3. Leave it as it is.

That is my personal preference, but let’s see if we can find out other suggestions.

4. Remove dailies and attach laurels to regular achievement points. You gain them for every xth tier completed (such as 5th tier?)

5. Have dailies roll over if they are not completed by the time of reset

6. Have all possible dailies available every day, rather than 9 random ones

7. Have different tiers of dailies Gain silver for completing 1 daily, gain the exp bonus for 3 dailies, gain laurel for completing 5 dailies, gain a 2nd laurel for completing all 9 (or whatever)

8. Allow for a daily type to be repeated, i.e. you can do daily gatherer 5x for daily reward

I’ve been reading through some of these posts and most of the ones that say they are cool with dailies are also the ones who don’t care about dailies. This simply means most will please you no matter what they are. More success can be made by decision that are likeable by those who do care, simply put. It won’t hurt those that don’t care, and those that do will also be pleased. Simply put, no one particularly likes dailies for what they are. Some people dislike them and the rest are mainly neutral. Doesn’t that make it overall a bad design and idea? If it were a good idea, most would like it, a lot would be neutral, and some would hate it. that’s a good design philosophy to me.

I cannot speak for most, but I like dailies – as I said a few posts above, I found a few jumping puzzles that I would not have completed otherwise. I’ve also been encouraged to finish story mode dungeons, work on world completion and a few other things. It does a good job of getting me moving around and doing different things.

Let’s look at a basic scenario. Let’s say you need to kill 10 things to level up. Now, let’s say that those 10 things, no matter how good or efficient you are at killing them, is going to take 1 hour to level up.

Repeating something that you have mastered is boring. It is artificially gating you from something regardless of whether you have mastered it or not.

Another example: school. Let’s say that you spent the same time in class as Johnny. You did well enough to understand the material and went on to the next class or grade. Johnny, however, didn’t understand the material at all. Should he, then, go to the next class or grade level just because he spent the same amount of time as you in class? No.

So, how does this affect MMO’s? Well, let’s look at dungeons for example. What is the reward for mastering a dungeon? The dungeon armor. However, instead of making it about being the master of the dungeon, it is about completing it X number of times.

So, what we have is that someone who really has mastered the dungeon gets the same reward as someone who may have been carried by his 4 other teammates for doing the same dungeon the same amount of times. That isn’t fair either.

There are many ways to fix this. I would be happy to continue if you like.

Hmm, you are assuming that completing the dungeon takes the exact same amount of time for everyone.

A more similar analogy to school would be:

I, person A, takes 10 minutes to complete my final test.

Johny, person B, takes 2 hours to complete their final test.

Assuming we both passed, we both move on to the next grade. Even though I took 10 minutes and he took 2 hours. It is quite possible he failed and does not pass on.

In the case of the dungeons..

I take 10 minutes to complete a dungeon
Johnny takes 2 hours to complete a dungeon, Johnny dies 30x and has a crazy repair bill, in the end we both get armor. Johnny spends X x 2 hours to get his armor (assuming he doesn’t get better each run) and I get it in X x .16 hours to get my armor. I also did not spend gold on repair bills from dying over and over. Johnny may end up not even completing the dungeon a few times.

Long story short. We do not spend the same amount of time if we are on different skill levels to acquire the same amount of armor.

However, I understand your point about being carried. Perhaps you are correct. Dungeons should now be soloable and parties should be removed from the game. (Sarcasm). In all seriousness, how do you suggest they fix the problem of being carried through dungeons to acquire armor that other skilled players earn?

And you keep using that word lazy design. Your opinion. I think it’s quite logical if “good” content takes time, to put in filler until you can get that good content out. Every MMO does it.

Ah, that is where you are wrong. Time based progression and vertical progression are just bad design. Why?

Well, like I said before, vertical progression is based on making things do the same, only with bigger numbers. The result, is that you gate content from players. Neither of these things are inherently good. They don’t provide more depth to a game. Horizontal progression on the other hand, requires more work, but adds depth. Depth is an inherently good thing about a game. Gating players from content is not an inherently good thing about a game.

Similarly, time based progression is even worse. Progression should really be based on skill. I could go in to why, but I know that most intelligent people will agree with this and that you won’t so why bother?

Ouch! There is no reason to blatantly insult people in a debate! That is cold.

I disagree that these are inherently good and bad. 1. Gated content gives you something to aim for. i.e. levelling up.. You are level 20 and can’t wait to get to level 80. You log in with that goal in mind and anxiously wait that moment when you’ve earned it. Level 80 areas, gear and dungeons are all gated against the lower level, but this isn’t inherently bad. Some may not like it, but some do.

Time based progression is good for two reasons. One it helps keep the economy in check. Two it keeps you working towards something. Having a goal in mind is very important for a lot of players.

then MMOs generally might not be for you

I thought ArenaNet was trying to push outside of the MMO market though?

Not only that, but MMO’s haven’t really changed much in the last 10 years. GW2 certainly hasn’t done anything game changing that we can’t find pieces of in other games.

Maybe, it’s people like you holding back the genre by telling people who want better game mechanics that this game isn’t for them.

Not really a constructive comment or argument if you ask me.

1. You countered your own argument. You started off by saying that ArenaNet is different and then went on to say it’s the same as other MMO’s?

2. You may see it as holding back the genre; however, many of us like it as is. We do not want the changes you are suggesting, because we believe it will make the game worse. You are the one asking for change, we are asking to remain the same. You want to ‘make the game better’, but we see you as a threat to the game’s quality.

Constructive comment? Please do not change the game for the worse (imo) by removing gear progression, removing stats and/or removing dailies.

Without progression, I will get very bored very fast
WIthout stats, combat will become very stale very fast
Without dailies, I will stop logging in (assuming that their is no progression and combat is stale)

1. I don’t see where I said ANet is different. Please quote that part of my post that I didn’t write.

2. Your opinion is exactly why MMO’s are stale. If you don’t want innovation, be prepared to be disappointed. This is a general thing and not specific to MMO’s.

3. If what you say is true, that dailies are the only thing keeping you logging in, then this game isn’t fun for you. Sorry, but you are basing your fun on completing a chore. I would prefer to play games where the activities amount to more than chores.

1. Perhaps I misunderstood you. I assumed this is what you meant by “ArenaNet was trying to push outside of the MMO market”

2. MMO’s are stale is also an opinion. I am all for innovation. It is hard to tell from this back and forth where our opinions differ and where they are the same. I am sure there is some cross over, as we both play Guild Wars 2. I, however, do enjoy vertical progression, gaining levels, PVE, stat based gear and combat, action based combat and time based content.

3. Dailies are not the only thing keeping me logging in. I specifically said that if the other changes are made, the only thing that would keep me logging in are the dailies. Currently, I very much enjoy the progression and combat.

4. (This is my 2nd reply to part 3). Completing dailies doesn’t necessarily equate to being a chore. Any task that you have to do can be considered a chore by someone who doesn’t like doing it. For example, I could consider taking a keep in WvWvW to be a chore (and I do). However, I find most of the things on the dailies to be quite fun. I have done a few jumping puzzles that I would have never experienced had I not been completing my daily. I found a few that I really like.

Time based grind is just bad lazy design. Sure, it works, but it can be better. Logically, objectively, it can be better. That is all.

Can you clarify your comment. What specifically do you qualify as time based grind? What is wrong with it? I imagine after you answer these questions, you will see that it cannot be better based on objectivity. This is because better is inherently an opinion based term.

Logically, anything can be better.

However, I would like to hear you clarify what aspects of the game you mean when you say time based grind (reasonably vague, that could mean levelling up, farming for materials, and a host of other things). As it is in this thread, I can naturally assume you mean dailies, but I assume it is not exclusive to that.

Once you define it can you please explain what specifically is ‘bad’ about it?

Once you specify what is bad, please provide some possible solutions.

You don’t really have to do the daily every day.
Just as you don’t have to do fractal daily every day, run dungeons every day etc.

But we have to read the forum everyday!

The question is, does this encourage community and players to have fun. Answer is no….current daily system discourages people from doing WvW, dungeons and events if they have a limited time..because they can’t stack the daily most days with what you want to do.

And fun? No, tracking down bunnies to kill or wasting money on 25 food items or porting around is, at best, “fun the first time”.

That is really not true. You can often get a couple of dailies done by normal play, such as dungeons. (Here is a list of all the dailies that are done by playing through a dungeon or two: Daily Dungeon, Daily Kills, Daily Kill Variety, Daily Reviver, Daily Recycler, Daily Condition Remover, Daily Interrupter). Then you also have things like Daily Aquatic Slayer which can be done in some areas (such as underwater fractals).

Also, I know some people who seem to have a lot of fun tracking down and killing the bunnies. Weird right? I know for me personally, I often kill ambient creatures as I am running around anyway. This can easily be partially completed in some dungeons too.

I have an 80 ele and mesmer. I haven’t played a necro past lvl 10.

I would recommend Mesmer. I am definitely loving it.

As for tagging mobs, you can try any all of these:

1. Use GS, the main attack now hits everything it passes through so target the mobs at the back and you will hit quite a few. Number 4 on GS sends a spinning illusion that hits everything in it’s path to catch all the bad guys in the horizontal. Number 2 has a bouncing sword that hits a few enemies. Number 3 will hit all NPCs around a small area.

2. Use Staff, number 5 on the staff is an AoE with a pretty big radius and will buff your allies and curse your foes.

3. Use Focus, number 5 on the focus sends out an illusionary warden who stands stationary but spins around with axes hitting everything around it (and does a lot of damage)

4. 1H Sword is OK as you will hit several targets in front of you with each slash and it does a lot of damage. Number 2 also gives you evasion from enemy attacks.

Also you can shatter your illusions which will hit multiple targets.

Ele, very easy to hit multiple targest. They are the AoE king/queens. I use staff on my ele. Weapon swap isn’t bad because you have 4 attunements and swap between them constantly.

In my opinion, there are more variations on good builds and skills with mesmer than Ele. With Ele you have quite a few good skills but are using all of them all the time. After awhile it gets pretty stale. I have swapped weapon sets of Mesmer quite a few times (sword focus, scepter focus, greatsword, staff, scepter pistol and sword pistol). I love all of those. I also am constantly adjusting my utility skills on my mesmer, but leave the same few always-on with my ele.

Anyway, obviously it comes down to personal preference, but I find both damage and utility are greater with mesmer and they are much more fun.

I get my dailies just by playing the game the way I want to.

You typically have 25 aquatic kills in a day or interrupt however many times……….

The idea that dailies are something you get from just playing the game is false, you actually have to go out of your way to complete at least part of it. It may not take long but you wont just get it purely from playing the game.

Monthlies are different, I got my monthly already from just playing the game and without going out of my way to complete anything.

I have received the 25 aquatic kills on occasion through normal play (fractal underwater for example). When I don’t, I hit up the Asuran starter area by the level 3 heart there is a lake. You can kill the inquest there quite easily at level 80. Takes a cpl minutes.

The interrupt thing has definitely happened by normal play.

50 kills by normal play.

Champion slayer by normal play.

Veteran/Event in <area> sometime by normal play, sometimes I go out of my way.

Gatherer by normal play.

Fractal by normal play.

Jumping puzzle I go out of my way, but takes a minute or two.

Feast partially by normal play, spam eat for remainder.

Crafter I never do, but some may find it normal.

Mystic Forge I never do.

Brawler I never do.,

I think that is all the dailies?

To sum up:
5 out of 12 are completed easily via normal play
3 out of 12 can be completed via normal play, but may require going out of your way
3 out of 12 I personally never do
1 out of 12 is partially completed by normal play

Total estimated time to complete dailies after playing normally in an evening? 10 minutes.

EDIT: I forgot about Daily dodger. This one can easily happen via normal play too. I once tried to force it by fighting a lvl 3 mob for a bit and dodging it’s attack.s. That was painfully slow, but if you do not think about it you easily get the dodges in one log-in.

I also enjoyed “Also dungeons itself isn’t interested.” I had no idea the dungeons were not interested in farming.

Obviously Robo isn’t a native English speaker – and apparently they make trolls in every culture so he’s still got a job here.

Yeah I know it’s obvious he isn’t a native english speaker. I did my best to address his concerns, and I thought that mistake was funny. Sue me.

PS: If the opposite happened, and I spoke in another language and made a similar mistake, I am quite certain people would laugh. Rightly so.

These could also be in conjunction with other stats. i.e. you gain more strength at the expense of health, which allows you to use the heavier items but not lose out on attack speed. Alternatively, you could have more agility, which would allow you to move faster in combat, but at the expense of having less strength or health.

those are the stats you would really want to get away from, because now instead of playing it with skill you’re making it easy on yourself and having an advantage against the other person.

There is also skill in the current state of the game.

Yes, there’s plenty of skill in Guild Wars 2. Because stats actually mean less. It’s all about how you use your abilities. If stats were everything when two beserker warriors would battle it out in PvP the chances of winning would be 50/50. The current situation means that one of them will use his abilities better (example: stun the other player, hit the hell out of him while he’s stunned, use invulnerability, etc), therefore a skilled play. If you were playing Warcraft though, all of it would be basic calculation of stats. Hit, hit, miss, miss, critical hit, etc, no matter your sword goes trough the person or not. Also stats of how much damage you can do would come into play allowing you to one hit a person.

Yup I 100% agree. I definitely prefer Guild Wars. I would however, like to see more stats. Stats are not necessarily what make Guild Wars more skill based than wow, you also have action-oriented combat, dodging, trait builds, combo effects etc.

I do not entirely understand your first argument?
“those are the stats you would really want to get away from, because now instead of playing it with skill you’re making it easy on yourself and having an advantage against the other person.”
Personally, I would really like to see these added and think it would add another level of planning to the game and change outcomes quite a bit, due to the larger number of customized combinations. Perhaps you can explain your argument in more detail?

but that’s the thing. You’re planning for combat. That’s strategy. In combat you’re trying to use your abilities to counter your opponent, you dodge his attacks, you jump around him, you know exactly when to get close and what to hit him with. That’s skill. Adding more stats (like strength, agility, etc) makes you plan more (possibly grind for gear that other people won’t have the time to go for) and makes your battling time less skill based (because you can just out-stat the other player). The less stats matter, the more skill you require to have. In guild wars there’s very little stat increase between a green item and an orange item. Stats don’t play as big of a role, making the combat more challenging.

Hmm, I see what you are getting at. However, I think that building your character up is part of the fun. I also think that planning and preparation your strategy is part of the skill. Skill is a function of stats + preparation/planning + execution. Take away stats and preparation, you only have execution. It sounds like that is what you want, but I would have to disagree that it is the most skill-focused option. I am unsure if it would be more challenging, in fact the most challenging option is to enter into combat with inferior stats and see if you can win based on your superior planning and superior execution. I am quite certain an execution-only game would get boring very quickly (for me), as I would not be able to ‘mix-it-up’, and would then constantly just use the same strategy over and over.

Agreed, elitism is not absent in GW2.

In other words:
DPS meters are not a prerequisite for elitism
Elitism is not a function of DPS meters
DPS meters MAY fuel elitism. This is not necessarily true in all or most situations.

DPS meters are very useful for fine tuning your own builds. +1

To be honest stats are an outdated mechanic and an RPG can go without it easily. No rules or boundaries would make it a sandbox and there’s a market for that as well.

To be honest RPGs are an outdated genre and it’s all about retro indie games.

Actually, a game without stats is pretty much a group of people sitting around running improv theatre for each other/themselves. Nothing wrong with that, but it’s less a “game” as we’re talking about here and more a “thing to do to kill some time”.

(Yes, I’ve done this sort of thing, mind you. I lost my taste for it after a few years.)

So chivalry is not a game? No actual game could take the mechanics of this fighting game and use it as its own combat system?
Shooters don’t have stats. They’re not worse as a game because of it.
Dark Messayah didn’t have stats. Just lots of spells.
Imagine an RPG with lots of different items having different uses and abilities, but no stats to speak about.

In my opinion it sounds pretty boring.

Also, in my opinion, guild wars is too light on the stats.

you might want to look into a game with a steeper vertical progression then. Like WoW. Because I prefer actual skill based games.

I have played WoW, and I did enjoy it. I like Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2 more though. To say there is no skill involved in any of these games is a bit of an overstretch.

1. Choosing your stats is part of your skill. Preparation in your customization takes thought. Specifically, one must weigh the benefits and costs of choosing certain stats over others and then applying them to your build of traits and general playstyle.

2. Performing your prepared build takes skill. That is why when you run a dungeon with newbies you die a lot more than when you run it with an experienced group. Even if you had the same 5 classes and same 5 sets of gear.

As you told me that I should leave and play WoW because I like stats (even though this game has stats????), I will provide you with the same courtesy. Go play call of duty.

you told me that you want more stats. I assumed “gear progression”.
Now imagine a statless play – you chose your weapons and armor. Armor weighs differently therefore it affects your movement speed, how flexible you are, etc. You chose your weapon, once again that affects how fast you swing it, how much damage you can do, how easy it is to get you off balance, etc. Then you chose whether to do a quick attack or to give your all and risk not being able to steady yourself to defend fast enough. There’s still thought in that. A lot of it actually. There’s also skill.

I consider speed of weapons swings on each weapon, or speed of movement by weight of armor part of stats. I really like these ideas. I’ve actually suggested something similar before.

These could also be in conjunction with other stats. i.e. you gain more strength at the expense of health, which allows you to use the heavier items but not lose out on attack speed. Alternatively, you could have more agility, which would allow you to move faster in combat, but at the expense of having less strength or health.
