Just like an expensive car, you don’t have to get it IF you can afford a cheaper car. If you do go for the expensive car, be prepared to pay the price for it.

Honestly, why do ppl feel the need to complain about skins being expensive when you can simply just don’t bother getting it.

and.. Honestly, why do people feel the need to judge others for providing feedback?

For the last 3 posts, I agree with what you are saying, that there is more than meets the eye. Like you can get the skin through other means, that you get other things in the BLC and that you can always choose to not buy it. That said, it is also fair enough that someone provides feedback that they are unhappy with the current system.

Therefore, the point isn’t ‘moot’ and the comparison to another game is relevant.

It would be fine if the feedback provided were of all sides to the argument. The argument the OP is making is invalid because you can get the items with in game currency. They are trying to make it sound as if there is only 1 way to get the weapons and that simply isn’t the case.

The argument is not necessarily invalid. You can argue against him, but calling his entire post invalid is disrespectful.

You can say the same thing with:

The main difference between Tera and Guild Wars 2, is that you can get the weapons via in-game currency. You can also obtain other items from the black lion chests outside of the skins. Therefore, the skins are not a flat $45 as you say, but they can be either cheaper or more expensive.

With that post, you make your argument and address his points that you disagree with, but you do not flat out say that his entire opinion is invalid.

Call me shallow, but I like my characters to look hot. All of my characters are human females with the must curvy body type. I am quite happy with them

That said, I’ve tried on multiple occasions to create other races. I had a male Asuran ele to 47, male Charr Thief to 7, female Sylvari necro to 5, female Sylvari ranger to 5 etc.. I just didn’t like any of their appearances and deleted them quite quickly. In the case of my asuran ele, it was sad, because it was my first char that I started in the 3-day head start.

Not purchasing the item is definitely valid. However, so is providing feedback on how we are dissatisfied with the well above market pricing of weapon skins. He provided a comparative pricing of a skin in another game in the same genre, and this is a 350% increase over that.

The pricing is definitely too high. IMO $10 is still too high though. At $10, you are essentially saying that the 6 weapon skins are of equivalent worth to the rest of the game.

Hi everyone!

While using Chaotic Interruption, can we immobilize mobs and bosses even if they have defiant (does using a stunning skill count as an interrupt even if they are not stunned due to defiant)? If that’s the case, then we can kite melee mobs/bosses by immobilizing them. And, we can immobilize opponents that attack from far, put a Feedback bubble around them, stay out of Feedback bubble and stay safe. I think it’s almost as good as stunning the ranged opponents. Too bad Feedback bubble recharges only every 40sec.

Oh yeah can players and mobs attack from far even if the enemy is behind them?

Also, can we use Arcane Thievery to take away stability (or anything that protects them from stuns) away from bosses/mobs and then be able to stun them?

Thanks everyone!

Immobilize seems to work against defiant yes; however, it is a very short lasting immobilize, so it’s not really enough to kite around with.

Is it poss.. to just say thanks?

Thanks is great and all, but is not very productive. I am very grateful for this game and play it often (Thanks Anet!).

However, if I tell ANet thanks, they get a nice pat on the back. If I tell ANet how I think the game can be done even better, then they have actual feedback to work on. This helps them make their game even better.

There are also some positive threads that pop up which give feedback. i.e. Great job on the new cinematics! etc

I’m of the philosophy that if you can do something in a game without actually altering the game’s code, then you shouldn’t be punished for it. It’s the developer’s fault if a flaw exists, and it’s their responsibility to correct the flaw. They should be thankful when people uncover the flaws so that they can be identified and fixed.

I agree to an extent. I disagree when this action negatively impacts other players experiences. For example, there have been many exploits which resulted in a massive influx of ecto’s or gold into the economy. This lowers the price of ectos or decreases the value of gold, and consequently, negatively impacts players who gain these items by legit means.

I do not mean negatively impacts in the case of the original poster, who was kicked for not following the strategy of the party. In this case, we are missing too many details to know exactly what happened/why he was kicked. If they simply kicked him, because he did not know the strategy, without saying anything, than that is more of a problem with the players than the code and strategy.

I was referring to more victimless crimes such as when people were jumping over the wall in CoF p2. Banning for that is just unfair.

In the case of an exploit affecting the economy, I think it would be better to fix the exploit than to worry about banning the exploiters. If they can’t exploit in the first place, then there’s no need to ban them.

Sure ban people for hacking, but if you think of the game’s code as a set of laws, and you are doing something within that set of laws that wasn’t intended, I don’t see it as breaking the laws at all. You are simply interpreting the laws differently.

I suppose that is a fundamental view where we differ. I do not view the code as a set of laws. I see it as backdrop environment for which we interact. I see the terms of service as a set of laws that we must adhere to. For example, the code may allow an inappropriate name or offensive language, but the terms of service do not. It is also part of the terms of service to

You will not exploit any bug in Guild Wars 2 and you will not communicate the existence of any such exploitable bug (bugs that grant the user unnatural or unintended benefits) either directly or through public posting, to any other user of Guild Wars 2.

This specifically addresses that there may be a bug within the code of Guild Wars 2, and that it is against the rules to exploit it. Naturally, sometimes it is unclear what is a bug, and what is not. Other times it seems quite obvious. For example, jumping from a platform is normal in Guild Wars 2. Teleporting through a wall is not. Therefore, if you can teleport through a wall, that is most likely an exploit, but if you jump off a platform, it is not.
As for skipping trash mobs, ArenaNet has said before that it is intended that people learn which mobs they can skip and which they cannot and then develop strategies around this.

I’m not oversimplifying things, I’m pointing out that they are very simple.

The WvW achieve requires WvW interaction. WvW interaction is based around denial of reward. The WvW achieve is not required for the meta.

Ergo, you should only attempt the WvW achieve if you are willing to participate in WvW (which means dealing with people who are intent on denying you access to your goal by whatever means necessary).

Like you, I don’t enjoy WvW because it is about denial of reward (what you are incorrectly calling “griefing”, an exclusively PvE term). Like you, I want all of the achievements. Unlike you I’m not asking that WvW players be denied their enjoyment of WvW so that I can obtain a WvW achievement without participating in WvW.

I would agree with you if, and only if, the Jumping Puzzle had a keep that a server could hold. Because there is no keep, there is little incentive for your server to come defend it.

When you say out to your server that an opposing server is taking so-and-so keep/tower, they can come to help. They come, because it is the goal of WvW. However, there is no benefit for the server if everyone came help out in a JP. Therefore, it doesn’t fit in well with WvW. (Same thing goes for Skill Points in WvW maps. Luckily, people do not camp skill points to gank people trying to finish map completion)

I ran an interrupt build in PvE for awhile after the big patch change. It was sort-of fun, but ultimately useless.

The majority of the time that I ‘interrupted’ a skill, it actually did not interrupt. This is due to defiant and unshakeable. I would get the bonus of interrupts from traits (added might, immobilize enemy etc), but the skill they were using still went through.

I ultimately found that it was detrimental to my parties, as I was not contributing as much damage as I otherwise could, and that I wasn’t providing the support that was intended.

That said, I did find one useful thing. You gain 5 stacks of might from an interrupt. If you dish out 3 illusions and get in melee range with IP, then you can get 20 stacks of might instantly with Diversion. You could then use Signet of Inspiration to share the 20 stacks of might with your party.

Hey Datosh,

That is definitely a fun encounter! I think the problem is not that ANet has hidden all of the bosses, but that the non-hidden ones are made easy by two aspects which accompany things in GW2 that are not hidden:
1. There are a lot of people there, so the bosses become a DPS encounter and mechanics are thrown out the window.
and/or
2. People have done them enough to find the easiest way to destroy them (stand here, stack here, dodge at x seconds, use these skills in this order etc etc), and that becomes (relatively) common knowledge.

If the ledge was designed to be an optional route to the same place, instead of facing a lot of mobs, that’s smart play. If the ledge was not designed to be an optional route, that’s an exploit…

How it was designed is irrelevant.

Is walking allowed? Yes.
Can you walk on the ledges? Yes.
Are the mobs mandatory? No.
Can they be bypassed? Yes.
Is anyone using third party programs or applications for it? No.

= Not an exploit. Smart play.

It’s an exploit…

I’m shocked you are actually trying to defend this. No one cares that you want to use that exploit, but it’s an exploit. It’s like standing in a spot to glitch something.

Is walking allowed? Yes
Is standing allowed? Yes
= Not an exploit. Smart Play <— terrible logic

It’s an area that they clearly missed and the playerbase discovered it is accessible and can be used to their advantage.

That is called exploiting their careless mistake. It’s not smart play, it’s lazy play.

Defending it just makes you seem kinda ….you know…

I disagree that the dredge jump is an exploit. An exploit would be hitting the dredge through a wall, or even blinking through the wall for portal. However, jumping in seems like a use of in-game mechanics to pass an obstacle. That seems perfectly intended. Hitting through a wall or blinking through a wall is an obvious exploit, because it is taking advantage of something that is clearly a bug and not a design choice. Jumping on the other hand is strongly encouraged in this game.

4. I don’t judge anyone (secretly saying that you are the superior to all those who do judge people, and ironically are judging them by doing so)
etc etc..

While I agree to the rest, this argument doesn’t hold. Judging people for judging people on irrational things is a good thing to do.
Take for example the klansman. I judge him for being a racist. Doesn’t make me a racist for denying his white pride although that’s a common argument.

Another example is being pro-gay marriage. That doesn’t mean I want to destroy marriage and neither that I’m against straights. I just want to give others the same rights I have as a straight, married man. And yet people claim to “defend marriage” by explicitly destroying it for many loving couples.

So yes, I’m quick to judge judgemental people, which is a different argument. By that I don’t make myself superior, I merely demand to be treated equal.

I wasn’t really saying that judging people is wrong or bad. I was simply saying that everyone judges others, and nearly everyone thinks themselves superior.

You guys must be new to the game. The second patch of the month is the balance patch and not the big content patch. The content added is just there to keep people playing till the next real content patch is added on August 6th. They dont release major content additions every two weeks because if they did then a large majority of the player base wouldnt have time to finish the content they added previously.

Go check the balance notes, youll notice quite a bit of useful things added this patch. Jump over to the ranger, warrior, guardian forum and check out how happy they are. If your playing the game so much that your managing to burn through the content every two weeks, then in about two months youll have new gear to chase down in addition to new living world content. If you finish that then i suggest making an alt and gear him out in said new ascended gear.

Welcome to the game, glhf.

You must have missed the big announcement.

They recently advertised that they are moving to a bi-weekly living story cadence, instead of a monthly one.

There’s a weird psychology with exploiting that makes people think they are superior to someone else. Either superior to the designers for doing something that wasn’t intended, or superior to other players for not knowing what they know.

Players will have that attitude and stick to it even to self detriment. That Dredge shortcut isn’t even a shortcut. It takes longer to get around the switches than to just do them right. No kidding at all about that. Also, only two people need to jump down into the cage everyone else can run in when they hit the switches. So even if you do have someone hell bent on wasting time because they know a trick they think is fancy, why would they require everyone to do something that only takes two?

I remember someone getting kicked from Dredge because they didn’t know the Ice boss/ramp glitch. It was the third Fractal also. That glitch (long since fixed mods) involved getting the boss stuck on a ramp where the players could safely hit him from underneath. The party leader said he and his guildie would kick whoever didn’t go straight to the ramp. And he did. It took over an hour and twenty minutes to kill the boss that way. That boss takes less than 20 minutes with a bad group.

That behavior and rationale is so mentally unbalanced its really hard to just categorize it as “elitist”.

In my experience, most people consider themselves superior.

Either..
1. I am superior, because I exploit and do this dungeon fast, where you are a n00b.
2. Unlike that other guy, I am really nice and help people out all the time! Come with me, because I am better than you and I am nicer than him.
3. I don’t play video games, because video game players are losers
4. I don’t judge anyone (secretly saying that you are the superior to all those who do judge people, and ironically are judging them by doing so)
etc etc..

This is even more apparent on the internet.

What does a Thief have?

GW2 has thieves because the “rogue” archetype is common in MMORPGs and ArenaNet wanted to cater to players who enjoy it. But the “rogue” archetype is the ganker – the player who jumps from stealth and does burst damage to quickly kill a character who was just moving around, typically in non consensual PvP, and then runs away as fast as possible. This concept does not lend itself to PvE very well – just take a look at the massive failure that was the same archetype in the original Guild Wars, as the Assassins.

Thieves are suited the most for WvW, and a bit for sPvP. For PvE, the archetype is simply not valuable. Which means, dungeon groups will never seek thieves unless ArenaNet gives the profession something completely apart from its main archetype.

This archetype can lend itself very well to PvE. For some reason ANet has a difficult time implementing it though.

Many games have stealth/rogue type options for the main character in a PvE RPG environment. A couple of examples are Fallout 3 and Deus Ex Machina. I assume Assassin’s Creed falls into this as well, but I never got into that franchise. In both Fallout 3 and Deus Ex Machina, I went through the entire story while being stealthy. Choosing to circumvent my enemies rather than outright killing them.

Ideas for how they can help this out in PvE? Make it so stealth does not make you invisible, but simply reduces your area that you will agro a mob. That means that you do not simply stealth and charge through, you stealth and actually sneak around. Then add in parts in dungeons that take advantage of this mechanic, where a thief could actually help a group by pass a group of trash mobs by sneaking by and accessing some sort of panel that lets the group by.

how about hell no.

you hit the cap on bleed and you suddenly receive 25k damage? bleeds a dot, not a burst.

And this is why PVE will never get properly fixed, as long as SPVP gets to overrule…

Except it really doesn’t make any more sense for PvE either. I want a solution as much as anyone (and I don’t play PvP), but just dumping the damage on the enemy all at once just isn’t a good solution.

Sort of makes sense for PvE. It’d be great if a condition stacker could reach a similar DPS to a zerker warrior.

Not too bad of an idea, obviously would need tweaking to balance.

All the bosses attack extremely slowly and, for the meta world bosses, will only attack in a straight line. Right now on Shatterer you go beside him and attack upwards, and he just keeps firing in a straight line away from us. He also attacks extreeeemley slowly. Spice it up and have the dragon move, have it face us as we move around, have it attack more quickly and whip it’s tail or wings at us and knock us back. Right now it feels like I may as well be attacking a wall.

Let´s complain how to craft the new stuff when we actually know what ANet has planed for us to do.

And btw, your example is pretty much what everybody is already doing in game.
Running CoF endlessly to buy stuff from the market or other Dungeons for their specific gear.
Orr´s karma gear is actually the only exception to the grind.

People aren’t farming CoF to buy stats. They are farming for skins.

And the WvW gear is a better exception, since Anet is handing out medals every day.

What skins are people farming CoF for? Do you mean Legendaries? Then yes, you’re right.

CoF, however, is universally farmed for gold. Gold can buy new gear or help someone attain their legendary.

So you’re both right.

Champion Rewards

Champions in the game will be updated so each will always drop a guaranteed reward box for any player that qualifies for a reward from the boss. This chest will contain things like crafting materials, skill points, unique skins, lodestones, and more. This change will make champions more rewarding, and will make playing in Orr and Southsun Cove (where events can scale up to add champions) more exciting and fruitful for guilds and players joining together in the open world.

Yeah, that’s just not going to happen. People are still going to take the path of least resistance (Queensdale) for champions unless there’s more to this than has been said.

How I understand it is that in Queensdale you may get a champ here or there, but in Southsun or Orr, you will see significantly more champs. That means you can kill them faster. Effort may be a bit higher, but reward will come in faster.

Queensdale may end up having the best kill/h

Cursed Shore, for example, off the top of my head has these champs:
-Wizard (east)
-Wizard #2 (shelter)
-Ooze (Meddler)
-Pirate (south)

But I think the Orr champs have a better drop value considering they will drop T6 and Queensdale will drop T1.

The post said that events will scale up with more people to have champs in Orr and Southsun. Personally, I read that as either all or most events will have at least 1 champ in them if enough people are there. If enough people are there, then they will die fast too.

I spent 30 minutes in Southsun; the instance was too difficult for my toon (in yellow gear). Then, there was nothing else to do – no alternative paths.

I spent 5 minutes in Bazaar of Four Winds – that was more than enough time to explore anything I could get to. I couldn’t get to much.

I’m a casual gamer, I play about 10 hours a week. I don’t like jumpy puzzles or PvP at all.

Certainly there is plenty of content for casual gamers in GW2. But it disturbs me that most of these living story events, or whatever you call them, are pretty much inaccessible.

Maybe I’m the only one who feels this way. You could survey the players – or just query your database – and see what percentage of them actually accessed all this new content. I suspect it would be fairly low. It is vital to keep the hardcore gamers interested, of course.

It’s not that the content is not accessible, it’s that you don’t care enough to take the time to learn. If you do not care enough to take time to learn, why should ANet cater their content to you?

  • Specific way of getting the precursor

that were useless until they dcided the bait and switch making egendary a tier

  • More skills and traits as progression

Still to see how much of them and paired to how much grind……
They felt the necessity to pair ANYTHING with grind and as you can read you will need to grind your way to new skills and traits also.

  • Improvement on rewards
  • Doing something about MF

Nerf in drops and stuff about grinding again?

Nope, ANet doesn’t listen at all.

No they dont listen their playerbase who made it extremely clear they didn t want ascended stuff and “progression”.

And unless you show me some feedback of the proportion of the anti ascended thread then you can t say the opposite.

(but you can see in ANY site talking about gw2 how the game is defined as a grindy with no endgame).

1. It sounds like you are suffering from confirmation bias, in that you expect something and are searching for only things that may confirm what you expect.

2. You want us to look on a thread designed to complain about ascended gear and find more people in it who like ascended gear? That’s like going to an apple festival and saying that obviously everyone prefers apples because the 100 people at the festival all prefer apples to other fruit.

3. I imagine most people who like things don’t run to the forums to say why they like it. Many, many people complained about lack of end-game content and then were quite pleased with the introduction of ascended jewels and fractals.

4. You can call anything a grind really. Grind just means that you are doing something over and over and you probably don’t like doing that. In any game you will be doing something over and over, so the grind function really just means that you are doing something you don’t like. If you don’t like doing it, stop.

5. I am personally looking forward to everything you listed as faults.

My fears with Fall of Abaddon and Thaumanova

I agree about the lack of story. I’d like the current dungeons to have their story be a little more visible.

I do not think it necessarily needs to be longer though.

Maybe each fractal could have a quick loading screen that has a paraphrased story of the fractal (with skip option). As it is now, I only understand the story behind the Charr one.

So... PvP and WvW player votes dont matter?

Wait, WvW players don’t use waypoints?

Waypoint>Keys.
Abaddon>Thaumnova
Crab Toss > Crab Toss
Charr > Human
Money > “Morals”

Evon wins my vote!

Waypoint =/= Keys (don’t care about either)
Abbaddon = Thaumnova (I am sure both will be fun)
Crab Toss =/= Crab Toss (I am sure both will not be fun)
Charr < Human (Not sure why people like Charr’s?)
Money < Morals

Kiel gets my vote.

Do play with a "Single player game" attitude?

Sometimes.. I played GW1 mostly solo, because that was a lot easier. However, I think part of the problem was I never really found a good guild in GW1. In GW2 I have a great guild and I’m much more encouraged to play with them.

Naturally, when I do dungeons and things, I often party up.

I have found myself partying up for exploring the open world too, or going through jumping puzzles. Guild Wars 2 definitely encourages social play more than Guild Wars 1 (or even WoW imo).

So my answer is both yes and no. I enjoy both and Guild Wars 2 offers both

That and the PvE in this game just isn’t very involved. Sorry, it really just isn’t. That’s not a slam on anyone that likes PvE, it’s just an objective fact. There’s not much to it.

Although the PvE could be better in some ways, this is clearly a subjective opinion. Stating that it is a fact does not make it so.

If you want to be objective, you need to use objective terminology and be much more specific, you need to provide evidence of the specific details and you need to address your bias.

Anet has already made their stance on this abundantly clear. It is 100% intended to have the PvP be a part of the JP to add another dimension to the challenge.

Of course some of us don’t like it and some of us do like it.

Arguing that you are a completionist and do not want to PvP is a non-argument. You are either a completionist through and through and will do this despite that you do not like it, or you’re not a completionist.

That said, I am unhappy that they have both this JP (and 3 others) in addition to world completion in WvWvW. I want to focus on one or the other. It has made me really hate WvWvW with a passion now. I went once before and had a fun time, but have been going more to get world completion finally and have had nothing short of misery. This strategy is not good at getting more people to try out WvWvW, as it is merely scaring would be PvPers away.

I really love the design of this jumping puzzle, and would like to play it more often, but I won’t because of the PvP. Hopefully, one day, they may add a PvE equivalent.

And to think... (LW is playing out like they said)

Not that I predict this will happen, but for all you know Jormag will fly down in the midst of an electoral debate and throw everything into chaos. It only takes a moment to have this happen. It won’t mean we will be killing Jormag in August, but we might get the start of it.

Though it could very well not happen and maybe nothing will happen at all.

My main point is you do not know what this game will have a the 1 year mark as 3 releases will happen between now and then. Two of them un-announced.

Its been a year, man. Guild Wars Factions was released approximately a year after the original came out.

There will be 3 more releases before the 1 year mark hits. Who knows what 2 of those releases hold.

Bazaar is NOT a jumping puzzle

Jemmi.6058

Really guys? This is called semantics.

The sky crystals are not a Jumping Puzzle, but they are a jumping puzzle.

Semantics are important for communication. If you are saying that you do not like the new jumping puzzle, it could be confusing. One could assume that you are talking about the bazaar, while someone else could assume you are talking about Aetherblades JP (as that is the most recently added JP), and even someone else could think you are talking about the kites at the end of the JPs.

Using proper language will help others understand your meaning more clearly. Using incorrect language is not useful and will only confuse the issues.

An example: This dungeon is really hard! It says recommended level is 36 and I am 36, why can’t I beat it?

Well first, that isn’t a dungeon – it’s a personal story step. You can tell, because there are no dungeons that have a recommended level of 36, whereas there are personal story steps at that level. The statement is incorrect and confusing. There is no point in using incorrect terminology, so why not use correct terminology?

Incorrect grammar grinds my gears too, but harassing and correcting others who aren’t asking for it is, in my opinion, worse. It’s a game, and people are here to have fun.

When I see stuff like this in chat it drives me up the wall:
Player 1: Anyone want to run Citadle of Flame later?
Player 2: Citadel*
Player 1: Oh sorry lol
Player 3: Sure, I’ll come along. So long as you don’t mind a Condition Warrior xD;
Player 1: Lol, it’s cool, I don’t mind. Anyone else wanna come along? LF2M , that efigy is so annoying!
Player 2: Effigy* And I guess so, I’m not doing anything.

No one wants to be corrected, especially not while relaxing and playing a game. No one even gains anything from the correction. It’s just annoying. Player 1 isn’t going to be eternally grateful because he now knows how to spell ‘effigy.’ Hell, it was probably just a typo from typing too quickly. It just makes Player 2 sound annoying and snooty.

Now the idiots who type in a way that isn’t coherent, that’s something else entirely. An example being, “lol yu gusy wnna run codf later im doin path1 probly a few tiems.” I would have to read that probably a few times just to get the general idea of what the person even wants, and someone needs to say something. He’s not going to get a party if no one knows that he’s looking for one, lol. Or where he wants to go.

TL;DR – I think people tend to be too harsh on typos. It’s not a big deal. If you can understand what’s being said easily, leave it be.
InB4 – "The biggest crime committed in that scenario is “Condition Warrior.”

That is quite possibly true in this example; however, I like it will people call out my mistakes. I am forever learning and know that I am not perfect, and corrections help me learn.

That said, those seem like obvious typos and not spelling mistakes.

Didn’t you bother to go to school?

I am not sure how your question applies to anything. To answer it, yes I went to school and post-secondary.
