The sad thing is that I always thought ArenaNet was NOT like other developers and would respect their player base by at least letting them know the state of things. Such as, “in terms of how we distribute our resources, currently sPvP is one of our lowest priorities”. Seriously, I think people would enjoy GW2 Pvp more as it is that way, rather than waiting, hoping, and getting angry, as they tend to do now.
Ugh I have 5-10 secs of lagspikes. PVP is unplayable. Never had this before.
Yep same problem here.
I can’t believe that peoply still think rank is somehow indicative of skill.
Most people agree that the core gameplay is very good and deep. That’s why we are all so impatient to get features such as matchmaking, leaderboards, variety of game modes and all going, because we know how awesome it will get once we have that.
Yes, or at least it did a few months back when I tested it, so I’m sure it’s still in place. Even might on yourself affects your phantasms!
For instance, I just was on a team with “rank 100” added up beat a “rank 150” team. Anyways, matchmaking has mostly been fine for me so far.
I don’t want to suggest that matchmaking is perfect, but this kind of “mismatching” based on only ranking is also kind of misleading. I’ve had plenty of matches were groups of lower average rank gave us trouble, and the other way around. We need to see the RATINGS not rank in order to know if matchmaking works or not.
Sounds like it may be a problem with your MMR. Perhaps you’re so good there’s no one comparable to your level!
These would be awesome additions, especially the Smite emote callout system or whatever you call it. I don’t have time to chat and type messages when I’m being attacked, but may have time to do the simple commands. In particular useful for solo queuers.
I have this as well, and it only started happening a few hours ago. Although I do get a “connectivity” error around 20 seconds or so after clicking play in character select.
will the ratings be reset on this new patch or will our rating be the one since the previous patch?
no the ratings will not be reset again. they already told us they wont.
if for some reason they do get reset all the people that played this month for this rating will be upset (yes me)
Where did they tell us that? I may have missed that info.
Yes I’d really like to know if there will be another matchmaking reset or not.
Agreed. I don’t care (much) for balance until there’s an infrastructure that makes these issues more visible and important.
Anyways, can we get this survey to a thousand participants? That’d be nice.
Good survey, well done. Did you post it on reddit, guru etc as well?
Thanks a lot Evan! I honestly think all these small little things do help (although there’s still quite a lot of them!) to get sPvP where everyone involved wants it to be.
I’d love to hear some honest answers about the position of PvP in relation to the rest of GW2, which seems marginal at best. Are there any plans of structurally reinforcing the PvP community in terms of developing manpower/resources and overall attention/finetuning? If they would just be honest about this, and say admit that for the next half year or so it won’t receive any structural upgrades in how it’s being managed, that would prevent many of us another disappointment after another!!
Just to share my experience, I have actually been getting decent to good match-ups for the last around 10 games I played. No more leavers, and some really really close games. I haven’t faced premades but some 2, 3 or 4 groups. Seems to be working for me at least!
Thanks Evan for taking the time to respond, it’s a relief to hear that you’re not only reading along, but also thinking in the same lines as most players regarding the role of Customs in the future. Also thanks to TC for writing this up in such a constructive, polite manner.
Awesome ideas. With most topics I find one or two points I disagree with, but here I’m all in! Hope they’ll read this.
It’s been 6 months since the game was released and you make a thread like this? Come on, I’d like to see you take a game this far after 6 months. It takes time, and you can’t please everyone. Unfortunately (for you) PvE and WvW are the majority of the game, therefore they would rather accommodate those certain people first, then take care of the sPvP and see what they can do. Give it some time. Leave and come back, it’s simple, there’s no sub.
The funny thing is, there’s Indie games that DO offer more support and features for competitive play. Also, it’s not unfair to at least have them communicate and admit that PVP is the lowest priority of all. That way, you won’t disappoint people every time.
Yeah, it wouldn’t hurt anyone to just show it I think. Will also enable us to provide you with more feedback whether or not the system is working.
+1. Yeah, at least if we’d know it will take another year, I won’t have to be disappointed each month.
BTW, I’m a (former) Tsunami but grad school and unconvenient time zone (Hawaii) make it impossible for me to be active on the same level as you guys. I did like to just play semi-competitively but a lack of a solo queue disabled me from enjoying the game any further. Hope Anet will give me a reason to see you guys in-game sometime in the future. Really enjoyed the first few weeks the game was out when everyone was still playing and we had like 3 or 4 teams running tourneys at the same time.
Professor James
I started similarly poor with 4v5s and afks, but recent matchup have been decent matches… Hope I wasn’t lucky and it’s actually working.
Even if it’s just that, this will make it faster for people that already play to do solo queue, and easier for new players (I think there are still people that thought you need a party for frees).
So, this is a step in the right direction! I’m happy I can finally say that.
Agree with most people here. And yeah, I hope they remove hot join, or at least 8v8 hot join, so that more people will just play “real” games. If the matchmaking and all works and there’s enough people, just playing a single map will basically feel like a hot join. But then everyone enters at the same time and similar skills levels. Much better.
It means solo queue will be implemented.
Liked. I feel EXACTLY the same way. Something needs to happen or I’m gone forever. I’m currently seriously enjoying playing Knights and Merchants the Remake more because it actually kind of has a scene going on and it’s easy to start games which will be some sort of a challenge or learning moment, rather than stomping or getting stomped.
Seriously, I don’t play anymore because of things like this. The system just doesn’t work. The reason I’m still checking out the forums is because I see the potential of the game, if there would be good pvp infrastructure. But I guess I should just be taking a half year break or so with the speed things are progressing…
Like getting a ranked solo queue, I think most players will agree that hotjoin is pointless and it’s better to let new players or players that just want to play a few matches do something else. I really hope they change this too!!
Exactly Lowell, thank you. I’m so happy that we as a community at least agree on this. Again, I’m a busy player and I can’t get a team. I really appreciate the fact that the top level players are supportive of a model that would be more inclusive for people like me.
Exactly Teldo, this is why people like I have stopped playing. I have an extremely busy professional life with unpredictable times. So it’s really hard to form a fixed team. Whenever I have an hour or two of freetime, there’s nothing I’d rather do than having some good GW2 pvp action. However, free tourneys gets me against premades most of the time, and I’m too competitive to actually enjoy free lobbys. What is there left to do for players like me??
I’m glad I’m not alone in this. Did they address this at all in the State of the Game? I just want to know yes or no, because if it’s a no for now I won’t be paying any attention to the game for another month or two.
With the update, would it be possible for single players to queue up, for ranked and be matched up against others who queue up (non-premades)? I have not been playing for months and this is the single feature I have been waiting for. Will get back when it gets implemented but I’m not sure if the next update will include this. After all, since I (and I’m sure many others with me!) haven’t been playing the last few months, I don’t have a fixed team and need single queue in order to find people. However, it’s no use if we get teamed up against premades (like it was the last dozen or so times I tried!). I’m a competitive player, but I don’t care if it’s Paid or Free. I just want my single queue ranked pvp fix.
Please, this needs to be fixed… I’d like to play Mesmer, but impossible now.
Great, it seems the devs are playing with us a little more than earlier (at least that’s the impression I’m getting). Seems like they care and this will help the game develop further. Hope I’ll have a shot to play with some of them later!
Bump.
How’s it going Blu? I haven’t played because of grad school deadlines which started during late October, and also because the current PvP structure doesn’t allow busy people like me to have any fun, since PUGs are constanty destroyed by organized teams and I’m too busy to get organized. Only have like a few hours a day at random times. This is Professor James btw, hope your bug gets fixed soon.
