Donari, thank you I am on NA, and I might take you up on your offer.
Fellow Tyrians, I apologize for my wimpy posts. I have been so busy trying to get all the skill points on all my characters that when I read Colin’s bombshell I, lost it.
Sometimes, I think I am a marshmallow with a steel pit in the center. Once I get through all the marshmallow stuff, I hit the steel pit and rise to the challenge.
So, tell me, what will be the best profession to take into the Jungle???
Guardian, Warrior, Necro, Ranger??
Lisa-Wiping away tears and firming her jaw. If I jumped up the Vizier’s Tower in Straits of Devastation I can handle the Jungle..right?

Dear Anet, please can you make it so I can play the game blindfolded and unlock stuff without trying? Having to do stuff while I explore is such a drag. /s
Seriously, do some of you even know what grinding means? The very meaning of the word indicates you are doing something you find unpleasant, hence it grinding. Ignoring the fact you haven’t even tried the full product yet, if exploring the map and doing stuff along the way is unpleasant for you, why are you even playing in the PvE areas in the first place?
This really isn’t an issue, as far as I can tell, and I am willing to at least see how many challenges are available, and whether they are fun or not, before screaming about it being grindy. You haven’t even seen or tried the full maps yet and your complaining about how grindy it is? Unbelievable!
I guess that’s the problem with telling people the numbers, without context/comparison people lose their heads.
Dang it Rin….I don’t mind grind as long as it is a grind I can do. I never said I wanted it easy…just possible.
Things that worth having, are worth grinding for I agree with that.
I guess things might be easier if I belonged to a Guild, or had friends in the game to play with…but who would want to play with a clutz when team sizes are limited to 5.
I feel sick inside.

Noooooo….Colin…..difficulty wise the expansion is only for the top notch players….players like me, players like me who are clutzes… will never get a chance at the Elite specs…I am seriously about to cry here.
I bought the expansion, I did the Betas, I fell in love with Reaper, and Berzserker, and scrapper….I, I, I have been farming Hero Points on all my 33 plus characters like a mad thing….I learned to Jump up to Vistas well enough to get Map Complete on one of my characters, and now…..now I am told that the door to the elites have been slammed shut in my face.
Look at my account and you will see all the work I have done. Look at my buying History, I have been a..what do you call it?..a whale? I have played almost every day for three years….
I, I, I am sorry I am old enough to your Grandma and have lousy coordination…Darn, I am crying now…seriously. I was looking forward to this so much……

I am fine with running about getting the Skillpoints, but, like others have said, I feel the number is too high.
Ohoni-I am curious about something. you said…
“In any case, it really isn’t all that onerous to run out and pick up every skillpoint in the world. Even if you mainly PvP or WvW it shouldn’t take more than a few hours, less if you do it in small groups. Getting all the heart quests is far more involved.”
How is it that you can suck up every skill point in the world in just a few hours? I can see it if your maps are all uncovered and all you have to do is waypoint everywhere…but what if the maps are yet to be explored?
What is your secret? I think a lot of us are going to want to know your method.
Lisa-Off to work.
I saw this yesterday while leaving work. I instantly swiveled around and galloped to the office where we write notes asking for time off. Yes, I will probably die instantly upon setting foot in HoT but I want to be there. Then the actual day the 23rd falls on hit me like a ton of bricks. FRIDAY. No way can I take that day off. I can swing Saturday for getting off, but not Sunday
Oh well.
I wrote a note to get off as early as possible on Friday, and take Saturday off. Since I am going to instantly die in HoTdue to my exotics and being a lousy player I don’t really need to take a lot of time off
HoT!!!!! WHOOP!!!!!
And as far a Halloween goes….there is room for both. Put Halloween in the vanilla map because I cannot see all the Guildwars2 population being able to squeeze into the HoT maps at the same time. Halloween will ensure that those who can’t get in , or do not have HoT, will still have something fun to do.
HoT!!!! WHOOP!!!!
Hi all.
I did not get to play much, but I did play the elite specializations and I loved them all especially the reaper.
I did not go to the actual HoT map because I read on the forums about how difficult the content is there.
I will go there to see for myself, in the next beta, but guys, am I going to locked out of playing HoT because of the difficulty involved? Are there things to do for “Average Joe” players?
Tons and tons of nothing but difficult content is wonderful for the young elite gamers here, but, what about us casual, not so coordinated, players to whom this game was marketed towards? Are we not allowed to play HoT? Are we not wanted?
Actually, us uncoordinated casual type folks, are probably the ones who buy gems with actual money to turn into golds….if this is true, locking us out of a new expansion by putting in extremely difficult play with not a drop of content for us is…stupid.
But, that is just my opinion
I loved all the elites, and my Necro is looking forward to getting his new shroud

Smitke, I love your idea of instances as a way to gain the elite specializations…maybe they could give us difficulty settings on these instances which would be a win/win situation for everyone…if wishes were fishes….

While I agree that they should not be too far from entering VB, I do find it should make sense chronologically story wise.
It seems most likely that the ‘mentors’ that will be the first of every specialization will be some of the main characters (as some already have been show) f.e.Revenant specialization : Rytlock
Guardian specialization : Braham
Warrior specialization : One that comes to mind would be Canach, he has no class specified on the wiki but seems a warrior character to meEngineer : Taimi is the only one we know I think
Ranger : Rox or Eir, although since Braham seems to get Eirs bow perhaps more of chance of the latter becoming druid? Also looking at what the druid theme could be seems more of a Norn thing.
Thief : Caithe is the one that comes to mind, hase also been quite active/mysterious this LSElementalist : Zojja is only one I really know
Mesmer : Most likely Kasmeer, however Anise could also be an option here but I doubt she will have much involvement in the actual story besides from sending Canach
Necromancer : Marjory most likely, Trahearne could be an option but the first has the better “claim” IMO.So in any case for it to make sense story wise all of this has to be shown in the PS before you could specialize, personally I am in favour of all being able to specialize at the same point, however some could happen before others if story is the only prequisite (f.e. revenant could technically go after first story with Rytlock appearing and clearly using glint which seems to be the specialization).
Anyhow as to how this should happen, IMO every specialization should have its own insance together with the “mentor” characterwith a specific challange to learn aboutb the specialization, for exampledragon hunter goes into the lair of a “dragon” and has to kill it, druid has to go to a trial to become one with nature etc.

Hi Sam.
I agree with what you wrote. Because of a combination of working all weekend, my Windows 10 download getting stuck and sitting at 92% forever, and my bulging disc having a bit of a flare up, I did not have a lot of time to play the HoT but I did play with the Elite Specializations and OMG !!!!!! I loved them.
Devs, if anyone is reading this, from what I read on the forums, you gave the elite, young whippersnappers, content so difficult that I doubt I will be able to play the new maps….please, please, please make getting the Elites something the average joe players who work 40 hours a week, have a family life, and are not as coordinated and keyboard gifted as the young ones can achieve. We are part of your success too. You gave the young whippersnappers the majority of HoT content….give us this…please.
Anyways, thanks Sam for writing this.
Lisa-Loves the Reaper :)
Hi DeWolfe.
I feel for you. I restricted my post trait patch characters to one build because I am a cheap kitten and did not want to spend all that gold and skill scrolls for the traits, otherwise I would be angry just like you for the same reason.
I am sitting on over two thousand something spirit shards and I don’t use the forge at all..maybe when they release HoT the Devs will give us something useful to do with all these shards
Lisa-Gives DeWolfe a warm, grandmotherly, Texas sized hug.
Hello everyone.
I have been so busy playing I forgot to scramble to the forums and thank the Devs for the new trait system.
Words cannot express the happiness I felt when I realized that all my characters created after the massive trait change, are now equal to my grandfathered characters made before the trait change.
In other words, my younger toons, who had been restricted to one build only, due to that horrid system, now have all their traits unlocked
I seriously almost cried with happiness.
Yes, like a lot of others here, I lost a couple of my favorite builds, but that was a small price to pay for my younger toons suddenly having the ability to try out any new build they please. I just rolled up my sleeves, squinted at all the choices given, and made new builds to replace the broken ones as best I could…By all the Skitts, I wish some choices were in different columns
Anyways. Thank you for giving my non-grandfathered characters their freedom
Lisa.
Hi FrostSpectre.
As an uncoordinated, klutz type of person who enjoys this game very much, I hope with all my heart Anet does not update open world Vanilla maps to make mobs difficult and challenging. Dying everytime I turn around would not be my idea of fun
I know you are probably a young whippersnapper elite player..but think of those of us old enough to be your sainted granny. Sainted Grannys play this game too..and spend more than we should in the Gem Store
Hmmm….I was sipping my morning coffee before work when I came across this thread.
I am fascinated by those who come into the forums and act like he/she is the sun and everyone else revolves around him/her…if someone behaved like this in real life that behavior would award them a kitten-whooping in one form or another.
So, I started to think what would possess OP to come into the forums with a me, me, me, and me only attitude.
(1) Not sure what time zone he/she is in but he/she might have spent the evening sinning in a beer hall, came home and for some unknown reason, started to delete a crazy amount of stuffs, got frustrated because his/her coordination was subpar, and because his/her judgement was not the best as well, came onto the forums to lash out.
(2) He/She is new at his/her job and is sick of being the low man/woman on the totem pole and came here to feel better about him/her self.
(3) The OP is a college student conducting a psychology experiment on us for a class to see how we react to such a post.
(4)The OP forgot to take his/her morning/evening meds.
(5) The OP is trolling us for grins, because he/she is bored.
(6) The OP may be a grouchy person on par with Oscar The Grouch.
I dunno.
Op, I am off to work. I hope you get what you wanted to get out of this thread
Lisa.
Hello everyone.
First of all, yesterday I read that there will not be a widened gap between Exotic and Ascended…the 5% will stay the same
That really made my day. Now if I get stomped flat in the Jungle it will because I am not skilled enough to survive, not that my armor is weak
Now for my question,.
I have lots of characters clad in Berzerker (Spelling) armor and trinkets.
Because of the trait changes I am thinking of mixing some Knights into my armor setup for some extra survival.
My question is which pieces of armor should remain Berzerker, and which pieces can be Knights.
I have read enough on the topic to know that there is a difference, but I cannot figure out what piece gets what.
Or, should I keep my Berzerker Armor and trade out the trinkets? If so, I have the same same question .
Does it matter if I have Ruby earrings and Emerald rings? Or should it be Emerald Earrings and Ruby Rings???
I am not good at math so the answer might have been in front of me….if so I apologize for this question, but I don’t know the answer, and I would really like to know before I do something totally backwards.
I do open world stuffs…Hearts, Vistas, fighting all enemy critters who cross my path.
Thank you in advance.
Lisa-Looking forward to Tuesday.

Another employee thread.
I’m happy you all are satisfied with your purchase
I’m not an Anet employee and never will be. I’m happily self-employed. However, thanks for understanding that I’m pleased with my purchase.
Uh huh sure. You know only certain types of people defend HoT. Since you say you aren’t an employee I’m sorry for your situation and only wish you success in life.
Not real sure what you mean by “a certain type of people” but despite my misgivings about surviving in “The Jungle” in Exotics : Darn that widened gap between Exotics and Ascended: and the only Guild I am a member of is my personal guild, I took a leap of faith that it will all end up ok and bought “The Ultimate” edition twice. One for my better half, and one for me.
I really do believe Anet did not mean to scam us, and I really feel that once the powers that be have had time to gather the thoughts from this forum, the Reddit forums, and have their meetings about this dust up, things will be made equal ala a slot added to the first bundle for the upset vets, and a way for the people who bought the Vanilla game on sale to keep their progression and have HoT.
If “A certain type of person” is one who tries to see the best in things and after some thought is willing to take a chance on things…then I am “A certain type of person” and proud of it.
Lisa-Played GW2 almost from the start, and will keep on playing…Jungle here I come..I might die instantly because of my Exotics…but here I come anyway

Hello everyone.
Like everyone else I was flabberghasted about the pricing of the three expansion packages and what they came with.
My problem is all my characters, All 33 of them, are clad in exotics. Recently Anet announced that the gap between Exotics and Ascended will be widened.
Does this mean that HoT will be balanced around Ascended?
If it is balanced around Ascended, does this mean my exotic clad crew will not be able to do the content there because they will be too weak?
I know several posters assured me my characters will be fine in the jungle, and Colin himself said our present gear will be fine as frog’s hair in the jungle..but Colin said that before the announcement of the gap between Exotic and Ascended.
Why buy a very expensive expansion if I will not be able to use it???
Questions, questions, and more questions.
Lisa wanders out the thread muttering to herself, stops, turns, and adds this…despite my unsureness about being able to survive in the Jungle, I will buy the expansion if they exchange the core game for an extra slot.

I am behind the bandwagon and just saw the details of the presell.
I agree with everyone here. The cost is too costly for what you get.
And with the gap between Exotic and Ascended widened I am still not 100% sure my crew of exotic clad characters will be able to survive in the Jungle despite a few very nice posters who said I would do well….
If there were a package with the expansion and a slot priced at a decent price, I would have bought it already despite my misgivings on Jungle survival….but….as is…too expensive
Lisa
Lisa reaches out through the screen and gives Dante a great big Texas size hug.
Thank you for taking the time to share that info.
It is appreciated more than you can know.
Lisa-Needs some lunch.
Hi Phys.
Weaker meaning I will not be able to survive the wilds of the jungle????
I guess nobody knows the answer to that yet.
Sorry my postings sound dour.
I was recently diagnosed with a L5 Bulging Disc and over half of my 33 level 80s did not have 65 skillpoints.
Despite the pain, I did manage to get them all out into the world, and I think everyone of them now has at least 65 skillpoints with one who has World completion
I was quite pleased with myself until I read about the stat gap between exotic and Ascended….
When I feel better I may look into what it takes to make a set, but right now….no. My heart is not into it now.
I just read the post by Darkness…I did not craft any Ascended because the Stat difference made no difference to my playstyle.
And be kind. Just because you have the prized armor and weapons is no reason to belittle those of us who saw no reason to craft them.
Being a good winner is just as important as being a good loser…but that is a life lesson you will eventually learn.
Now, I have to decide whether or not to buy HoT, when before it was a no brainer.
:Sigh:
Soooo…does this mean that if those of us who do not have ascended armor and weapons should not buy the expansion because our Exotics are not good enough for HoT????
What happened to Colin saying that our present armor will be fine as frog’s hair?
:Sigh:

SQUEE!!!!!!!!!!! JUBA THANK YOU!!!!!!! After reading about you finding your Beta invite in Google’s Promotion tab, I went into my own email and peeked into my Promotion’s Tab!!!!!! SQUEEE!!!!!!!!!! I have an invite!!!!!!!!!!!!
And I am off work today!!!!!!!! I have an invite, I can attend!!!!!!!
Lisa hugs invite…..things like this don’t happen to me….
Thank you God, Thank you Juba, Thank you Arenanet, Thank you RNG….I don’t thank Google for being sneaky
Lisa-Doing a happy Snoopy dance…..Google email users take a squint in your Promotions Tab…you might find yourselves doing a happy dance too.
I’m happy to see we have one new face for each race and gender.
Seriously. Look at most of them. It’s one face with different colouring/makeup.
Just give us the option to have different makeup styles already and be done with it. I’d pay for that.
Hmmm…actually…I would pay for different make-up styles too.
Good idea that.
Lisa.
I like the new human female faces…now I do.
Someone above said, they look like a Drunken Bratz doll..and they do when their skin color is one of the various shades of white.
What I did was darken the skin tone, to make it resemble a citizen of Mexico…and oh my gosh, I found my new Engineer
I might be wrong, I usually am in situations like this, but I think these new human female faces were meant to be ethnic.
Anyways. That is my input to the this discussion
Lisa.
Add me to the list of people who want new colors for hair accessories. Arenanet has given us such a wonderful collection of new hair colors that the number of colors we have for accessories needs to catch up……I would love to give my little Asura pastel pink ribbons for her hair.
Lisa- would even buy a doohicky from the Gemstore to unlock new accessory colors.
I’d like to start by saying thank you Anet for all the money I’ve been saving lately thanks in part to your creative genius. One outfit one look no matter the gender or profession I was both very desapointed and happy at the same time. Crystal Nomad thanks but I’ll pass.
And I would like to thank Arenanet fot the Crystal Nomad Outfit. I have had a ton of fun with playing with contrasting colors for this outfit. Love it, love it, love it to pieces.
Lisa.
It’s really making me paranoid.
I feel like I’m being stalked.. creepy.. where are they! who is shouting at me! SHOW YOURSELVES!
Hahaha ya that is hilarious xD Especially all that “Help me!” or “Retreat!!” and suddenly there is an invisible asura engi that places invisible turrets around you and your norn warrior says “CHARR DON’T NEED GODS” TuT
I’m having way too much fun right now.
Yes, Yes, Yes…except my invisible Charr not only doesn’t need his Gods, he killed them!
And, yes, now that I know my account is not haunted, I can relax and enjoy the humor of it all.
Lisa.
Thank you all for this thread. I truly thought my account was haunted I mean, here I am, out in the middle of nowhere, not another character in sight, when I hear a male Charr bragging that his race has killed their Gods, male Asura engineers telling others they have built a turret, I hear Guardians hollering “Retreat.”
This has been happening to me since the new patch hit, and appears to be getting worse.
I am very glad I am not the only one this is happening to….confusion loves company
Lisa.

Hi all.
I looked through the forums but did not see the info I am interested in. I know XP will be doubled but are there any exceptions to this? Will the XP you get while crafting be doubled..and what about the XP you get Harvesting and doing Personal Stories?
If the Crafting XP doubles I know what I am going to be doing
Lisa-Choo, Choo!
Oh, the members of the forum will probably scream bloody murder and make untold numbers of “I quit the game” posts…
I on the other hand am a firm believer in the journey being more exciting then the destination. Therefore I have given myself permission to totally enjoy being a giddy passenger on the Hype Train. If, it turns out there is no expansion, so be it. Life goes on, and there is definitely a delicious double XP weekend to enjoy
I am off on Saturday and intend to eat a wonderful breakfast, then sit in my comfy chair with my feet propped up, steaming hot mug of coffee in my hand, and watch the Twitter Stream
See you all there in spirit
Choo Choo
Lisa.
I have been playing the same character since I began GW2 and so it’s the character itself that is important. However, back then, I didn’t really know the differences between Norn or Humans and so I just picked one. I don’t care if I have to redo my personal story, loose racial items, etc. If there was a contract available, I’d gladly pay Anet the cost.
If you don’t care about losing the story progress or cultural items, why not just… make a new character? Because you don’t want to have to level to 80 again? Oh, so you just want an insta-level 80 fully geared, not just a race change.
Name
Map completion (WvW included)
Traits (yay for new system…)
WP’s
Skill points
Nostalgic tie to character
Crafting
NPE
Bag spaceMany reasons why I wouldn’t want to just start over from my main.
I can see the race change service being one of their hottest selling services of the year, hell w/all the bad publicity of the NPE/trait system it may even bring back a few veterans.
This. A thousand times this.
I would write more, but I think you have said all I want to say.
Lisa-Sad by what the Trait System has turned into.
People really should keep in mind that ArenaNet have said a grand total of nothing about this as far as I am aware.
The only reason this thread exists is due to the fact that someone saw that they had a scheduled appearance on the PAX homepage. ArenaNet themselves have however not even mentioned it.
They reserved the largest room for the longest amount of time of anyone at the conference… if that isn’t hype then what is?
Needing a lot of space for those coffee tables.
Really, i have seen Anet hype many times already. This isn’kitten You really shouldn’t expect any meaningful reveal to happen. They need all that space to show nothing is off the table.
I bet even the speakers will be on the table.
In fact, if Colin isn’t laying on a table, I’ll be sad
LOL. This post made me laugh. Thank you for that.
Lisa-Grinning.
Not much more I can say in this thread, except to say I am hoping and praying that the trait system becomes more doable for soloers and small groups…or at least reduce the amount of skillpoints necessary for unlocking.
Lisa-Fingers and Toes and Eyes crossed…I look quite the sight with my eyes crossed
Ok, I am going to put in my two cents on this matter.
The way I see it, instead of three different areas of play, there are three, with some subsets.
(1) PVP
(2) WWW
(3) PVE
(1) PVP, these people love to spend time going after each other. Having to slink into Open World PVE to get their dailys done is not a way they would like to spend their playtime.
(2) WWW is the same way. They enjoy WWWing and don’t really want to stop doing their gameplay of choice, and dip their toes into PVE, to get the dailies done.
Now, we come to PVE.
In PVE we have the subsets.
(1) Dungeons
(2) Fractals
(3) Open World
Not sure if the Dungeon and Fractal people care about going into open world for the daily, but the one thing all three of these subsets have in common is a loathing for PVP, and do not want to go into PVP, WWW areas for the daily.
The PVP, WWW people are telling the PVE people tough beans because they don’t like going into PVE to get dailys done.
Fair enough, but there is a very big BUT here.
When one does dailies in PVE, one can do them without fear of a squad of enemy players leaping out of a bush, killing you, and telling you that your mother wears army boots, and you are such a sorry player you should just die, die, die….which I am told, happens in PVP, and WWW…something about making the player you are attacking mad enough that they will make mistakes…but still…
PVE players don’t think it is fair that they have to throw themselves into that sort of ugly situation for achievement points, when all the PVP, WWW, crowd have to worry about in PVE land is boredom.
It is my opinion that because of this unequality, PVP and WWW should not share dailies with PVE.
I know this will never happen, but I would like to see a different three divisions for the dailies
(1) PVP, WWW-put them together . They understand, and are properly geared, for fighting their fellow players
(2) Dungeon, and Fractals-Let the Dungeon and Fractal crowd earn dailies while doing the game mode they enjoy the best.
(3) Open World PVE-Let them Gather, climb Vistas, Raise the Dead, and do Orange Circle missions to their hearts content.
Everyone is happy, well, everyone except those players who argue against everything just for the fun of arguing. oohhh, edit, Those people who argue for the sake of arguing..they are happy too because they have something to argue about
Happy players tell their friends, their friends buy the game, and Anet has more cash to make more fun stuff for us to do and wear.
There, there are my thoughts
Lisa.
(edited by Julischka Bean.7491)
I think I am looking forward to this new method of doing the daily.
I log in every day so getting a reward for doing so is like frosting on an already yummy cake.
Now we just need to get the trait system overhauled….or reduce the amount of skill points needed. Yes, I think I would be happy if the amount of skillpoints were reduced….
Lisa toddles off to the kitchen in search of coffee.
Daily is easy but if your PvE and *****HATE JUMPING PUZZLES****** then monthly is to hard to get.
Lisa looks at the picture and blinks. Hard to get? All you need to do is spend a few hours somewhere where the orange circle events respawn quickly…Norn Starting Zone comes to mind if you don’t want to go to Silverwastes.
I got my PVE only monthly this month without even trying.
And you still have time to get the monthly…go, go, go you can dooo it
Lisa.
As well as Bunny Ears, I would like jeans/ pants without a skirt for all my kids…Light, Medium, and Heavy…this would be wonderful as some of my characters are humble townsfolk and don’t have access to armor.
And I have not forgotten about a virtual sewing kit to allow me to sew up the hole in the back of my Human Cook’s Outfit

My thief has the plush Moto Backpack cover. On her back, Moto looks absolutely terrified…and he should be terrified as I am not at all well versed in the art of running a thief
But YESSSSSS..I agree with this list. BUNNY EARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PLEASE!!!!!!!!
Yes, thanks for the key sale. I did not keep tally on exactly what I received, but I received a lot of useful things for my new Char Elementalist….including about 8 leveling scrolls and enough black lion tickets that when combined with the scraps in my bank they made a whole ticket
Happy camper here.
Lisa.
Grin. I have done a lot of stupid things but this takes the cake.
I was expecting a birthday scroll, and I was going to so so organized.
My plan was to craft her to 80 so weeks before it was expected to arrive, I got all my crafting stuffs ready, I bought a slot and made my new character. I used another character to craft level 80 exotics and ruby trinkets, I even swiped some of the endless gathering tools and loaded them onto her.
This is where my memory grows fuzzy as this happened a year ago. I had let so much time go inbetween the making of the character and the receiving of the scroll that I had forgotten I had given her the endless tools.
When I received the scroll, I had a different idea for the character….moved the level 80 stuffs into my bank, moved her bags into my bank..and deleted her.
Did I say I had forgotten about the endless gathering tools????
They got deleted
I then realized that my only Dreamthistle tool was among the deleted tools
I did contact support with my problem…I admitted I was in error and only wanted the Dreamthistle back as I only had the one…but they refused saying I should have been more careful…and they were right, I should have not been so gung ho.
So that is my stupidest thing that stands out the most…that and going two years before realizing that I had to put a sigil into my aqua breather in order to get the 6th bonus underwater.
Lisa-Shaking her head.
Well, People can consume new content faster than the Devs can develop it.
I think these content consumers know this, but consume it, the content, at a fast pace anyways because they feel they have to be the first to get to the end and be the first to claim the promised shiny…I guess being among the very first to get the prize makes them feel like special snowflakes.
They get their shiny, then, even though they know darn well that they don’t have anything new to do because they rushed through it, they scramble to the forums and complain that they have nothing to do and the Devs need to make new content.
…and while they are writing this to the forums, they make themselves sound very angry at the “lack” of content because they have been led to believe that if you threaten a business with taking your business elsewhere that business will give you what you want to keep you happy..and the cycle begins again.
:Sigh: Sometimes being first to get the new shiny is not in your best interest
Lisa.
I discovered this pre-Black Friday sale.
I had vowed a mighty vow not to make anymore characters until the trait system got fixed…but…I do know what traits I normally use on my Elementalists…and…I love the male char voice when they change their elements… and the slot was 30% off…
I bought a slot
I am such a sucker
BUT!
On the bright side!
I have my Char Elementalist!
~Lisa-Sheepish but without buyers remorse….or vowers remorse…I need coffee
Grin. I am loving this thread. I too am over 50. My first experience with video games was my better half dragging me kicking and screaming into City Of Heroes. After finally deciding it was something he and I could do together, I relaxed and found I was loving it. When NCSOFT shut down City Of Heroes, I wanted another a MMO, so, after doing research here I am.
I am a clutz and cannot do jumping puzzles, and have a hard time jumping up things, but I have found that hopping up to Vistas is actually good for improving my hand eye coordination. Performing digital homicide is also a stress reliever, and as someone said above, playing the game sharpens the mind. When you are as old as I am, anything that sharpens the mind is truly splendid thing
Video games are just for kids??? Oh kitten NOOOO
All these pages, all these replies…Anet…by my Aunt Essie’s best Sunday garters, your trait system is not working…dooooo something
I think I made four new characters after the trait change. Two are totally not being played and are useful only for the additional storage space they afford me.
The other two, Guardian and Ranger, are being played only because I had the luxury of knowing what traits and skills I needed…not sure what I will do if those chosen traits are nerfed
Hmmmm…I have an idea. Karma is put into the Wallet to be shared with all characters on account, how about sharing Skillpoints the same way?
There are probably a thousand million reasons why this idea would not work which is too bad as it would give players a way of feeding skillpoints to affected alts, and the Devs would be freed from the chains of having to create a new Trait system.
Anyways, I will be watching this thread.
Lisa.
They let the skritt handle the prizes.. Right now, all anet employees are chasing all the skritt that took off with one skin each.
Actually, a video of that chase would be the real prize :D
Ashandar, I had to dig up my password just so I could tell you how much your post made me laugh. It is a gray, cold, afternoon in my neck of the woods here in Central Texas, so the laugh was greatly appreciated…and you are correct, that video would be a keeper.
And gee, I too am wondering where are our precious Halloween skins got off to.
As someone said above, I pray to the Spirits of the Wild, and to the Six Gods, that our raffle tickets were not deleted by accident :(
Not that I expect to win anything as I only gave the Skritt a small pawful of tickets..but still…
Lisa-Off to the game.
Editing this to say my fingers are crossed for the Rifle.

Now I know why the patch took so long…you all wanted to get out of the office as quickly as possible after this travesty went live. You hoped that we’d cool off by the morning, but guess what. I slept on it before commenting and nope. This SUCKS.
I like the one page rather than the sliding page and I like the instant see the changes at the top. That’s where the like stops.
You’ve hidden the market data so you can do whatever you please to the gem conversion rate. Yes, when a new patch hits the cost spikes but it has NEVER spiked this much this quickly. This is absurd.
You want something constructive? See the attached image, print it out, hand it to the design folks and FIX IT.
You took away choice and freedom to give us a blantant cash grab in the guise of “simplicity for new players”
We are not stupid and you (the company as a whole) are treating us like children who don’t know any better.
It’s bad enough that buying gems with real world money comes in increments that rarely match up with prices in the gem store in order to get us to buy more than we need. Now you’re doing it with the gem to gold conversion too.
Rant time:
I am so bloody sick of hearing
- It was confusing to new players. – we’ve heard this enough lately it’s now a running joke. “Loot was confusing to new players so it has been removed from the game.”
- We’re listening to your feedback. – Okay this might be true…you’re listening, but are you actually HEARING what we’re saying as we voice our concerns? Just because you’re listening doesn’t mean jack. Actions speak louder than words.
- It is a bug but we’re “working” on fixing it. – See: Defeated Camera (That wasn’t broken in the first place but you “fixed” it), Missing Human idle animations, Personal story out of order, and so many others….
- I wouldn’t rule anything out – lies and slander. You rule things out every day. You change things without telling us (stealth changes to dungeons), completely dismiss good ideas presented in CDIs and know there are things you’re never going to do.
- It’s something we’re aware of and are thinking about
- and all of the other BS responses we get in interviews
For whatever reason you hide big changes like this conversion until it’s live. What harm would it be to show us a preview a week out from launch to get feedback? We could have given other options on how to simplify it and make it easier to use, instead you saddle us with a cash grab, remove choice and freedom and hide the market data so you can more easily tinker with the gold-gem conversion rate.
See the attached for my suggestion to keep the good with the old and fix it. The way it is now is completely unacceptable. I liked being able to get the just a few more gems to get another something because the real-money buying gems doesn’t match the gemstore prices. The new interface is terrible and is NOT for new players. New players can’t afford any gems at these prices, so whatever “metrics” you’re using are wrong.
Anet has lost my respect for them. Once upon a time I loved you guys, I loved you so much I sent a personal email to Chris Whiteside to voice my gripes…he said he’d “call” me to talk about things. I was overjoyed to think they cared that much to chat with an individual player, but the call got moved back and moved back and then never happened. I’m jaded and you continue to do things to further remove any respect I have for the company that puts out what in most aspects is an amazing game. Dangit, I love this game and the game play but you have to quit crapping on your veteran players. Why do you hate the ones of us who have been here since the beginning? I get it, I’m not a shiny new toy to play with, I’m the old worn and formerly really loved toy sitting in the corner….do I not matter anymore? /cry
Khani, I like the attached image, and I liked your post.
ANET, Lord Love A Cross-Eyed Duck….there is no shame in saying an experiment did not work out and reversing it back to what it was. The shame is in knowing you made a huge huge mistake and do nothing but sit there with your fingers in your ears.
In order to have a game running, you need a playerbase. This player base, both the gold to gem crowd and the gem to gold people are not happy.
If both sides of the conversion are upset that is not good. Not good at all.
Listen to us Anet. Without us, you have no game. The word of mouth on the social media is mighty.
lisa.
For me, I always would buy the new items each week with real money then convert whatever was left over into gold to use since I work a lot and can’t farm for gold. Supported the game I loved with thousands of dollars spent and helped me keep up with gear/items I wanted. Now I’m stuck with having left over gems that can’t convert to gold directly since there isn’t an option that matches it. Only options are waste money and have random gems left I can’t use or stop spending my money. It’s an easy choice for me and means I can use the money elsewhere at the cost of a few less skins.
Lisa gives jblade a hug. Me too. I work a lot and have a real life which leaves me with buying gems. I hate the tiers for converting gems to gold for the very reason you said.
As far as random gems go, saving them till the next purchase is an option, but not a good option. If I am in a converting mood, I want the ability to convert ALL, or a certain amount my gems, to gold which can’t be done with the tiers.
Sigh.
Lisa.
My first reaction to reading about this topic was holding my sides to contain the laughter. You see, I knew this was going to happen. Too many people on the forums were bragging about how they convert gold to gems to buy things in the gemstore without spending a single real life penny. I mean, sheesh, if everybody does this, converting gold to gems, Anet will not not make any money.
Yes, the ability to do the converting is in the game, but, I think they meant people to buy gems with real life money as well as convert to gold.
So, in my saddened opinion, the very people who were on the forums gleefully posting about how they never pay for things in the gem store with real cash, are the very people responsible for Anet coming down kitten on the gold to gem conversion.
That said, If I understand the term correctly I am a whale.
I buy gems and munch from the Gem store using the gems I purchased.
I also convert leftover gems into gold, or save them for whatever else will comes into the Gemstore that catches my fancy.
This morning, after reading all the friction on the forums, I wanted to see for myself what was what in the converting of gems to gold…which is all the converting I do.
My reaction is add my name to the list of those wanting change.
I liked typing in the amount of gems I wanted to convert to gold.
In this new system there are tiers, so I cannot do what I used to do anymore
Careful Anet, in trying to get those with, err, “Thrifty Scottish Blood” among us to cough up more cash, you might be enraging the whales into quitting, and, those you want to keep.
If you guys need more income from the player base, let us know.
Hint, if you need funds for the development of expansions, new powers, new weapons, give your players the chance to help bring these ideas to fruitation.
I can’t speak for anyone but myself, but I would gladly shell out a fair amount toward an expansion…or for the ability of my Guardians to use pistols
Anyways. These are my thoughts on the matter.

I’m not.
Gw2 is gathering dust.
And sadly, I found it really easy to walk away from.
Lord Love A Cross-Eyed Duck….Notorious Bob, if you walked away from the game, why in Tyria are you even reading this game’s forum, much less posting on it???
And have a tad bit of patience and loyalty.
They just revamped the starter zones. Since they did this revampment, maybe , just maybe, this is the foundation for the stuff you want.
Big sigh. Sorry I sound mean. I am truly not a mean person in real life, but when I come to the forums and read all these ugly posts I want to scream.
I happen to love this game…most of it. I don’t PVP, WvW, or such things but I play everyday and have 25 or so level 80s. The things I don’t like about the game I consider crumbs. You can’t eat a delicious cake without having crumbs.
No game is perfect. I was not around in the first two years of City Of Heroes, but it’s first two years were way different from how things were when it was shut down by NCSOFT.
Soft growl. I am going to log back into the game. Everyone is happy there.
