This is not really one of those threads complaining about the price of the expansion, I just want to check if I understand something correctly:

in this thread someone from anet says that with the purchase of the expansion people get the core game as a free bonus.
I already own a copy of the core game, thus if I purchase the expansions, I should have 1 account which is upgraded to HoT, and one account which is just the core game,
which is given to me as a free bonus (I could give it to a friend or something like that)

have I understood the situation correctly (I hope I have because otherwise it would seem that some people are getting more than others, while paying the same price)

edit: the hyperlink thing doesn’t seem to work, oh well..

Wow, most responses so far are significantly lower than what I hear from guildies and others in-game. I’ve got to be over $1000 by now, but I couldn’t say without going through bank statements.

The forum is ripe with cheap people who have grandiose ideas of how ArenaNET should do things.

I imagine my spending has been at least $1000 since before launch.

Needs more Instanced PvE Content

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: KGS.9842

KGS.9842

I highlighted the keyword for you, community. Instanced content for 5 players doesn’t build a community, large scale open world content does. And, asking for special content created just for 5 people to play IS acting far more entitled than asking for more open world content for everyone to play.

I know that this is and older post in this thread but I just wanted to say how wrong this guy was
interaction between the players builds a community, which is way different from what is happening with the world events right now. What you have now is a faceless mindless mob, hence the name zerg. They could be npcs for all intents and purposes because all they do is stay on the same spot, and do the same thing, and usually the biggest interactivity you get is someone linking the next waypoint for the world boss train.
Players in the zerg, are not viewed by others as unique players who matter to the achieving of a goal as much as they are viewed as a little fragment of the zerg, just as their personal skill is not at all important because it all comes down to numbers.
Saying this mass event system provides a sense of community is like saying that riding a crowded train provides a sense of community irl

I’m not blaming the tool. It’s not the tool’s fault, as it is neither good nor bad in and of itself. I agree that the problem is people. Sadly if it can be abused or exploited, it will be. Sure maybe not be you, or by random person ‘x’, but it really only takes a small few to screw it up for everyone. To make something benign into something toxic and corrosive to the community’s well being.

When we give cars to people, a few of them will be stupid enough to drive drunk and cause accidents, let’s solve the problem by taking cars away from everybody

It is amazing that people assume that everything which doesn’t suit their play style is an attack against them.
Some people want to maximize their performance, and this would help them. If you are not interested in this, it has nothing to do with you, and obviously there are people who will want this.

just look at how much effort this guy has put in creating a tool that can help his fellow players (it is not just a dps meter), but no, some people just want to cry against everything that doesn’t cater to their ideas of what others should do

I will be getting this as soon as it comes out, simply because it’s great, and in if anet want to ban me because of it, they can go right ahead, if they had such an attitude they wouldn’t deserve to have players to buy their shiny outfits and bag space

why don’t they just make it so everyone has the exact same dps, that way no one will feel left out

You work in an environment giving alcohol in a public place that typically has to be driven to. Bar establishments encourage drinking and driving, due to the fact the BAC only diminishes by a certain percent per hour, based upon the personals ability to metabolize alcohol, and their weight/blood count.

Sure people don’t HAVE to drink at the bar, they could drink at home, but you guys provide a medium of danger that wasn’t there before. This opens up more chances for something to occur, and could be considered endangering. Whether or not it’s the customers fault for drinking at the bar doesn’t matter in this sense.

If you REAAALLLY want to go there

yeah and people who sell kitchen knives open up chances for someone to gouge his eye out and this could be considered endangering

again on the flip side WoW’s daily quests often boil down to box with story quest “go kill 10 of X” while GW2’s, erm, ‘quest alternatives’ are more intricately put together/structured into well integrated group activities and the like.

I think they are pretty much the same. You have kill waves mobs until they stop attacking, kill mobs until you hold a point, kill mobs as some npc walks next to you, with the condition being kill/tag X mobs to get gold

also if you acknowledge that in the second post, sorry, I take it back, because tl;dr

also calling it the best game out there is by far a hyperbole, I’d say that there is no best mmo, because no one has got it right so far, (i don’t pretend i know how to do it) the whole genre being somewhat flawed for various reasons, which are easy to spot imo
(wow has got it well enough to survive indefinitely, so it seems, while still retaining all the flaws)

Your experience with crafting legendaries

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: KGS.9842

KGS.9842

I haven’t finished crafting a legendary yet, but my experience has been nothing but pleasant so far.
I got the dagger precursor on my second try in the mf, and sold it for around 1k before taxes, and got rich. Some other night I was feeling lucky and put in 100g worth of exotics in the mf (+ some stones) and got the warhorn precursor, which gave me ~200g profit. (i can’t use those weapons + it’s no use sitting on a precursor if you are poor)
i have around 100 of each t6 mat from clovers (i still need some of those), material promotions and bags; i buy bags for bandit crests, and I think it’s the easiest way to farm them if you want to (or turn crests into gold if they can be sold on tp, haven’t tried). Also so far i’ve gotten all my obsidian shards from bandit chests and spvp rewards, but when the time comes i’ll have enough karma to buy all i need just from playing the game
right now i’m crafting my ascended set, which takes some money since I don’t want to farm mats, and to compensate for that I usually make a full run AC with a pug whenever i log on, which takes about 40 mins for about 5g (+2g if i get an insignia from the soldiers gear I salvage since I got black lion kits from the daily reward), and teq for 1g, 10k karma, and a chance at ascended coffer
when i get done with the ascended, all this will go towards the legendary, along with the time gated mats i’ll start selling
so here’s my story, the rng seems to like me so far, and i don’t see the need to rush it

I think i got a coat box from a random bandit chest on a chest farm

Feedback and Personal Opinion

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: KGS.9842

KGS.9842

I totally a agree about the loot. People who say who say that in some other mmo-s you need to run the same dungeons again and again to get an item. Here you need to run the same dungeon/world-boss-train/champion-train again and again to get gold to buy what you want… looks pretty much the same to me.
It would be nice for the people who choose to run a dungeon (which is harder than zerging) to get something better than greens and blues from those chests that seem so grand and big.
inb4 dungeon tokens – 60 tokens per path + some bags makes it so you need to run all paths for the cheapest exotic of the dungeon set, with the price of more than half of the items higher than that… talk about running content again and again to get an item

other than that you don’t need to kill a single person/mob in WvW to get map completion, just wait for the rotations and in 3 weeks you can make it

the dailies I find boring mostly, I do the daily fractals because they give an extra relic and sometimes the world boss because he gives an exotic (and when i play spvp it is impossible not to complete those), and don’t touch the others except by chance. I don’t complain though I don’t see how they can be made better…. it is right that they encourage people to try new stuff out

How is 3/5 people to kick still in the game?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: KGS.9842

KGS.9842

I would prefer the system to have a group leader that can’t be kicked, and can kick at will, and if he gets disconnected it takes a certain time and the votes of the rest of the party for him to get kicked.

just a few days ago I and a guildmate were running a fractal for a daily along with three randoms; i got dc-ed for 2-3 mins and when I came back I had been kicked out of the party I created, in the middle of a run ;d

other than that, in the thread about gear inspection yesterday I saw some people wrote that their groups get ninja-ed by randoms, and that is the best way to stop that

also I think people who sell dungeons should be protected somehow, I mean I neither sell nor buy, but if someone puts the effort to solo/duo a path, I think they deserve the right to do with the remaining slots as they please (anet made some content solo-able after all, and if they didn’t intend it to be so they better fix it instead of ignoring it)

Gear inspection idea

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: KGS.9842

KGS.9842

Honestly it’s hard to see why people have a problem with this idea
I assume that people who don’t like the all zerker meta don’t want to join all zerker groups in the first place, and so a gear inspect won’t affect them in the least
(also whenever I check lfg only 1 in 8 parties or so is zerker only so they certainly have where to go, and no one is imposing anything on them)

seeing how this thread is going i’d say that some people will just take any opportunity to try to spite and insult other players just because they have a different play style and want something to facilitate it

Gear inspection idea

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: KGS.9842

KGS.9842

snip

this is some first rate bullkitten right here, or you simply don’t understand what random means
the lfg tool is not random, as every party listed has a description, and you are free to choose what party to join
(for and example of a random tool look at wow’s lfg , and lfr)
And the lfg tool not being random is exactly the reason for people who list their parties there to have the right to set up a standard for their party members, because they are not blindly matched together
For example I see some parties that want people to have 5k+ ap (which is pretty ridiculous imo), and I don’t join them because i have 2,6-7k; it is not too hard to respect your fellow player’s choices

a gear inspect would be nice; you could even use it to see what is that armor skin you like
I don’t think it will ever happen though as anet seems to cater to shortsightedness as this

I am simply amazed people saying “i like muh world bosses and champion trains”
your actions do not matter in the zerg, and guess what people want their actions to matter and seek a challenge too
which brings me to point 2: how often do you guys play the aetherpath in TA?
I can anticipate it’s not much, and I can tell you why – the difficulty is higher, and all you get in return are a couple of bent lockpicks form the aether-chests
GW2 needs some kind of high difficulty – high reward pve content, call it magic-group-adventure for all I care since people are so afraid of the word ‘raid’
I am sure people feel nice when they show off their dragon rank finishers in pvp, so why can’t we have something like that in pve
I never got into hardcore raiding in wow, but whenever I saw a guy with the Liberator of Orgrimmar title for example, I thought ‘nice this person has achieved something’; and whenever I see the be-all and the end-all title here I think “wow this person got lucky enough so those bosses spawned on his map”

"No-grind philosophy"

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: KGS.9842

KGS.9842

the no grind thing in gw2 is as ironic as it gets
surely you don’t need to grind at all to do anything in this game; you can run dungeons in all rares for all i know, and world bosses don’t require any gear or skill at all since they boil down to the number of people pure and simple

thing is if you don’t grind there isn’t anything to do in the game in terms of pve. You can work towards a legendary, ascended armor, or some back piece, and guess what they are all grindy as hell

here is what i’d love to see in this game (although it is certain it will never happen). Imagine anet dropping the living story kitten with its measly 3 quests per update, and focusing on releasing new dungeon paths for example. Imagine further that the new paths are difficult to complete, and even more difficult to master (i imagine you could teach a monkey to stack behind a pillar and kill the boss), and because of the increase of difficulty yield unique/higher rewards (notice how popular the aether-path is, being more difficult than the rest of the dungeons and giving nothing more)

my problem with crafting mawdrey

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: KGS.9842

KGS.9842

I recently decided to craft mawdrey and looked into the process
It was truly disappointing for me that you need specific professions to craft it – I mean if you don’t have artificer 400, your only option is to buy a clay pot for example. What I would have usually done is farm the mats for the pot, and have a guildie with the right profession craft it for me (that’s the whole idea of guilds by the way, everyone helping each other) . The materials however are acc bound and I can’t do that so the only to options I have is to level a profession or buy it off TP.
If this were done to prevent people from turning geodes into gold it is clearly done wrong, since it just prevents people with the wrong crafts from doing it, as you can still sell the complete pot
now people might say ‘if you are too cheap to buy those things don’t get it, it’s optional’. I am not too cheap, and I will buy all the stuff I need, because I want the item, but it still feels wrong

TL;DR, everyone who has lag, disconnects, whatever during their prime time. Try Pingzapper! You can test it 30min for free and then you´ll get a forced disconnect after which you can use it another 30minutes and so on. If Pingzapper, with server set to one located in the EU for Europeans or one located in Asia or USA for the respective people, does indeed cure your problem, then its an issue based on your traffic routing and thus nothing you or ArenaNet can fix. However, if it does not help to clear your lag issue, then your lag issue is a different one.

kitten this kitten
https://hide.me/en/ gives you a trial of 2gb free bandwidth which in my experience lasts me for about a month if i use it for GW2 only; when it’s over you can register with another e-mail and go again ad infinitum (granted you can’t choose a server so at rare occasions it might not fix the lag but it does for the most part)

other than that I often have massive lag and disconnects but seeing as no one gives a kitten about our problems i’ll stick with the vpn for now
not even an official statement as to what the problem might be and whether anyone is looking into it at all… great going
it’s ironic how they are hyping the expansion while all of this is going on, i can’t wait to experience challenging new latency issues and master the power of disconnects

KGS.9842

well if it is 20 euro or less
from what i’ve seen so far there isn’t that much new content added
what that guy failed to mention in his “no new tier of equipment” speech was that a new tier of equipment usually means a new tier of high difficulty – high reward content, which is interesting to play and provides a sense of achievement that cannot be attained in a mindless world boss zerg in which your actions literally do not matter
so the questions are (in terms of pve): how many new dungeons? how many new fractals? they haven’t said anything about that, which actually leaves the possibility that there will be none
you people against the comparison with wow (oh muh subscription fees) but fact is that for that subscription people get new raids with every major patch
